Hope: The pharmacy is still open, so if I leave now, I can get the prescription filled tonight.
Dr. Barton: A full prescription?
Hope: Things are really difficult for me right now. I have to do something about this anxiety. I-I need that medication, just--just to get through this awful time.
Liam: Hope?
Bill: I haven't seen her.
Liam: Dad.
Bill: You haven't changed the locks.
Liam: Yeah, thanks for the reminder.
Bill: How was the party?
Liam: It was great. Yeah, Eric and Stephanie seem really happy, really content.
Bill: Well, you don't seem to be. What's going on? Where's Hope?
Liam: I don't know.
Hope: (Sighs) I want to feel better. I need to get rid of this anxiety.
Dr. Barton: All right, well, wh-why don't you, uh, why don't you start by telling me what it is that you're so anxious about.
Hope: You've seen it online. You... you've seen the things that they're saying about me, and the pills will help get that out of my mind. Then I can just be relaxed and calm with my hus-- my soon-to-be husband. Will you help me?
Ridge: Sorry to drag everybody back in here tonight.
Thomas: Just please tell me my grandparents aren't coming in here, too.
Brooke: No. They're enjoying the rest of their anniversary.
Ridge: If we all stay focused and get this done, we'll maybe be able to enjoy the rest of our night.
Marcus: Okay, so what do you need?
Ridge: You've all played a very important part in Hope's campaign. You know how it works, so how do we save it?
Rick: Kind of overstating, aren't you?
Ridge: No, Rick, Hope for the Future's in crisis right now. We've put too much into this line to let it just fall apart now. If your sister doesn't cool it with Liam, we're gonna have to find another way to deal with the situation.
Liam: It's getting late, Dad. Let's discuss this tomorrow, shall we?
Bill: Where's Hope, Liam? She wasn't at the party?
Liam: (Sighs) She left.
Bill: Where’d she go?
Liam: I-I don't know. She said she had something to take care of. I don't know. She's dealing with a lot lately, okay?
Bill: So Hope leaves the party without you and doesn't tell you where she's going?
Liam: Sometimes people need a little space, okay?
Bill: You-- forget about space, Liam. This girl needs help, and it's not the kind of help you can give her. I'm starting to think your girlfriend's a real head case.
Hope: I'm not losing it. I'm not freaking out.
Dr. Barton: No, but you are struggling, and--and that's understandable. It's unfortunate that the photo was picked up online-- you and Liam kissing and the ugly comments and... Hope, I want to help you.
Hope: Thank you. Oh, my gosh, thank you so much. I knew that you could help me.
Dr. Barton: (Mouths word)
Hope: You have no idea what a relief it is to know that I will be out from under this weight. So once I get the medication, I can just tune out all that, and I can really focus on what's good in my life. You know, I-I can focus on Liam and our life together, really, really know that nothing can come between us.
Dr. Barton: Hope.
Hope: Yeah?
Dr. Barton: I said I would help you. I didn't say I'd give you a prescription.
Marcus: We can't control what people say about Hope online.
Rick: No, but we can keep those comments off our web site.
Marcus: Yeah, they could accuse us of censorship.
Ridge: Then we have to find some way to protect Hope.
Oliver: Has anyone asked Hope how we should handle this?
Ridge: Brooke and I planned to talk to her after the party. Was that Hope?
Brooke: (Sighs) No, it was Bridget. She got a call from somebody that wanted a comment about Hope and Liam.
Rick: Hmm.
Brooke: She didn't say anything, but she just thought we should know.
(Knock on door)
Madison: Excuse me, Mr. Forrester, but security just called up. We have paparazzi at the gate.
Brooke: (Sighs)
Ridge: Great.
Madison: They're asking for Hope. Can we just tell them she's not here?
Rick: That's not gonna make them go away.
Ridge: We're not saying anything right now.
Madison: What about their phones?
Marcus: Yeah, you don't think that the paparazzi could get their cell numbers, too?
Brooke: I don't want Hope to get ambushed.
Ridge: If we don't know where Hope is, I doubt the press is gonna be able to find her, either.
Dr. Barton: No, not to worry. Everything's under control. You can go home. Okay. My assistant was concerned.
Hope: I'm really sorry I raised my voice to you, but I came here tonight because I thought that you could help me!
Dr. Barton: And I can, but, Hope, the medication treats the symptoms, Hope, not the condition, not the cause. You know, maybe if we just took some time?
Hope: No, no. I need to feel better now! Liam is waiting for me.
Dr. Barton: And you don't want him to see you like this?
Hope: No, I don't! (Sighs) I am not going to let this affect our relationship. All those things that people are saying about me online, I understand that that comes with being in the public eye. I get it.
Dr. Barton: Mm-hmm.
Hope: And they are really disappointed in me. But Liam isn't. Liam is proud of me, and I'd really like to keep it that way. As for the rest, I just have to block it out. (Sighs)
Dr. Barton: It seems to be a very successful coping mechanism for you-- blocking things out, subverting your feelings.
Hope: I get that there issues I still need to deal with. I know. But not tonight. Tonight, I just want to go home and have a wonderful, relaxing evening with the man I love.
Dr. Barton: Does he know that you're here?
Hope: (Sighs)
Dr. Barton: Does he know why? Hope, have you told Liam about any of this?
Liam: Dad, stop making this into a way bigger deal than it already is.
Bill: Hope's behavior doesn't bother you?
Liam: She is not a head case, okay? Anybody would have been shaken up by that article.
Bill: Has she responded to it? You know, if she does, we get the exclusive.
Liam: Oh, that's nice. That's real nice. That's--that's very supportive.
Bill: All right, listen to me. Normally, Spencer Publications would be all over this...
Liam: Mm-hmm.
Bill: Revving up the controversy, making people take sides.
Liam: (Sighs)
Bill: I mean, come on. The backlash against Hope and her line, it's a gold mine, and I'm not going to touch it.
Liam: Thank you.
Bill: But don't expect me to keep my mouth shut when I see my son sinking in quicksand.
Liam: Dad, this is gonna blow over, okay?
Bill: And what if it doesn't?
Liam: (Sighs)
Bill: Hope can't handle being called a hypocrite. How's she gonna handle being called a "home-wrecker"?
Liam: (Sighs)
Bill: You divorce Steffy, that's exactly the label that's gonna stick. You and Hope can get married. You can have a dozen beautiful kids. You can spend the next ten years saving the world, and there are still those people that will not forgive her. Now some women can deal with that. Hope's not one of them.
Liam: (Sighs)
Dr. Barton: There is absolutely no shame in needing therapy...
Hope: Mm.
Dr. Barton: Or needing medication.
Hope: Then why won't you give it to me?
Dr. Barton: Because the medication only provides a temporary relief.
Hope: That's what I want-- relief. You said there's nothing wrong with that.
Dr. Barton: Why haven't you told Liam about our sessions?
Hope: Because it's private.
Dr. Barton: He's your significant other.
Hope: (Sighs) This isn't about Liam. This is about everything else. This is about Steffy, the tabloids, the anxiety. That is what I need to get under control.
Dr. Barton: And you don't think that Liam would want to help you with that?
Hope: I think he would.
Dr. Barton: Well, then you need to be honest with him, Hope.
Hope: (Sniffles)
Dr. Barton: Okay, you said you have a lot to deal with, that you're under a lot of pressure. How much of this pressure do you put on yourself? How much of your anxiety is--is--is coming from maintaining this image of perfection? You know, if you allowed Liam to really see you...
(Cell phone alert chimes)
Dr. Barton: It-- (Sighs)
Hope: (Sniffles)
Hope: It's Liam. He wants me to come home.
Dr. Barton: Hope. Hope, you can conquer this anxiety. It's not gonna happen overnight, okay? You need to make an appointment.
Hope: You know what, Dr. Barton? I have a lot up in the air right now. I have to go.
Bill: Listen to yourself, Liam. You say things have never been better. But it wasn't that long ago you were lying on the beach with a beautiful woman at your side and a margarita in your hand.
Liam: Hey, it is not Hope's fault that people disagree with our relationship.
Bill: She told the whole world that she was going to wait for marriage, and now she's living with you.
Liam: You're damn right she's living with me! And let me tell you something else, okay? This is her house--
Bill: All right, stop, stop, stop! I'm not the enemy.
Liam: I know. Sorry.
Bill: You're my son, and I care about you. I love you, and I know how hard this is. You care about two women. You love them both, but only one is your wife.
Liam: The wrong one.
Bill: Give me your phone.
Liam: What? Why?
Bill: Because we're gonna call Steffy right now, and she's gonna answer on the first ring. What do you want to bet?
Liam: No, I am not playing this game with you.
Bill: How long ago did you text Hope? Has she responded?
Liam: We don't-- we don't even know. She could be driving.
Bill: From where? (Chuckles) You have no idea, and you're understandably worried about her. So don't tell me how well Hope's coping with this. She's not dealing well with it at all. If she were, she'd be here.
Liam: It's a lot, Dad. It's a lot, and it's giving her anxiety. But so what? Big deal. I'll talk to her about it when she gets home.
Rick: So... nobody knows where Hope is?
Brooke: She probably just needed some time to herself. We should respect that.
Oliver: It might not be a bad idea for her and Liam to get out of town.
Thomas: Unless the paparazzi spot them at the airport.
Marcus: Or on a beach drinking mai tais.
Ridge: We can't risk doing anything to make this worse.
Rick: Uh, then why don't we just do what we did before? When Liam proposed to Steffy, we talked about pulling the line, changing the focus, but--but Hope, you--she wanted to be honest. She put it out there, and it worked. Maybe that's what people want, an explanation. They don't know the whole story. They know that-- that Hope kissed Liam and that Liam's still with Steffy, but they don't know the truth about the relationship.
Ridge: No, we're not giving the tabloids more to write about. No.
Brooke: I'm worried about the company, too, but my main concern right now is Hope's relationship with Liam.
Rick: (Sighs)
Liam: Hope?
Hope: Hey.
Liam: Hey.
Hope: Hi.
Liam: Hey, you okay?
Hope: Um, there are photographers.
Liam: Outside?
Hope: Yeah, they're, um, they're right at the gate.
Liam: Well, did they recognize you?
Hope: They were shouting my name, so yeah.
Liam: Okay, I gotta--I'm gonna call the security company, make sure the guards don't say anything.
Hope: Wait, Liam, wait, wait.
Liam: What?
Hope: Just wait.
Liam: Oh, you're shaking.
Hope: (Sighs) I just, um... (inhales slowly)
Liam: What did--
Hope: I just--I just need to catch my breath for a second.
Liam: What did they say to you?
Hope: (Sighs shakily)
Liam: Hope. Hope, you can talk to me, okay? You don't have to go through this by yourself. Just...
Hope: Hmm?
Liam: Tell me what you need.
Hope: (Sighs) I-I just... (Sighs) (Sighs)
Ridge: We have to keep our focus on the collection. We have to tweak the message, but first, we need a plan.
Rick: One that includes Hope.
Oliver: She's the one people want to hear from.
Brooke: This is ridiculous. Hope is a good girl.
Marcus: What if we take Hope for the Future back to its roots? You see, it wasn't always about abstinence. The original message was about being a responsible citizen, a positive force for change.
Oliver: Change your mind, change your life.
Marcus: Change the world.
Ridge: Marcus, you're right. That's good approach.
Thomas: That could be kinda risky.
Ridge: We'll flesh it out. Let's meet tomorrow and see what we've got.
Oliver: All right.
Rick: Do you want me to call Hope, let her know what we're working on?
Brooke: No. No, she's probably home with Liam by now, so let's just not disturb her.
Rick: Okay.
(Door opens)
(Door closes)
Ridge: Thomas was right. Focusing on change would draw more attention to the problem.
Brooke: The problem isn't Hope and Liam's relationship. It's his marriage to Steffy, and she should have just given him the annulment papers when he asked for them.
Ridge: We'll figure it out then.
Brooke: Ridge, she knows exactly what she's doing. She knows she could put a stop to this right now.
Ridge: She can't turn back the clock, Logan. Hope made the decision to move in with Liam before he was divorced. Ending his marriage now is not gonna change that.
Brooke: But it would become a nonissue. The story would go away and then Hope and Liam would be able to focus on each other again.
Ridge: Unfortunately, I think the spotlight on them is only gonna get brighter. A couple has to be incredibly strong to withstand that kind of scrutiny. And you know what? I'm not so sure Hope and Liam are up to that.
Brooke: (Sighs)
Hope: (Sighs) I'm really sorry I left the party.
Liam: Hey, no. Look, I understand if this is getting to you.
Hope: No, no. It's--it's--it's not going to get to us, okay? It can't.
Liam: It won't.
Hope: No.
Liam: What's a little bit of bad press? Tomorrow, somebody's gonna fall off the wagon or get arrested, and then we're gonna be old news.
Hope: But that's the thing, Liam. It's not really about us. It's--it's me. People are disappointed...
Liam: No.
Hope: In my behavior. And I-I really don't want you to be one of them.
Liam: I'm not.
Hope: Liam... there are things that you don't know, things that I've been feeling that I just--I haven't wanted to talk about.
Liam: I know. I know.
Hope: You--you don't.
Liam: Yes, I do. Come on, who knows you better than I do? You can talk to me. You can tell me. I mean, I know you're not a saint, and you don't have to be, not for me, not for anyone.
Hope: I just feel like such a fraud.
Liam: You're not.
Hope: Liam... Liam, I haven't been completely honest. (Sighs)
Liam: Look, people have to start understanding that you are not your brand. You're much more than that, and every single decision you make in your personal life doesn't have to reflect your label.
Hope: But it does.
Liam: Okay. All right. I believe that everyone has the right to find their peace in this life, no matter how they go about doing it.
Hope: E-e-even if that means doing things that other people might not approve of?
Liam: Yes. Look, as long as you're not hurting anybody, nobody has the right to question your decisions.
Hope: Liam, I-I haven't been that person that everyone thinks. (Sniffles)
Liam: You--listen to me. You are exactly who you're supposed to be. And I will be there for you for every single battle, because you've done nothing wrong. Why do you hold the principles that you do in the first place? Because you believe that they make for a good life, a fulfilling life. And yeah, there are gonna be people out there who just can't seem to see the shades of gray in this world, and they're gonna take your message, and they're gonna turn it into something dogmatic. But you can rise above that. Okay, you don't have to let o-other people turn your values against you, because those values exist for your sake, Hope, not the other way around.
Hope: (Sniffles)
Liam: And I-I will be damned if I let anyone make us feel bad about loving each other as truly and as deeply as we do. Do you understand me?
Hope: Mm-hmm. (Sighs) I love you so much, Liam. I love you so much, and all I want is to be with you with no--no pressure, no anxiety, no guilt. I-I just want to be me, uh, the woman that I want to be for you.
