Hope: (Sighs)
Steffy: You can't deny it, Hope. If you are intimate with Liam tonight, it's adultery.
Brooke: So go home and spend a wonderful night with the man that you love. And don't let Steffy get into your head.
Hope: (Sighs) (Whispering) Come on, work. Work. (Sniffles) (Sighs)
(Knock on door)
Hope: (Clears throat)
Liam: Hey.
Hope: (Normal voice) Hey.
Liam: You okay?
Hope: Yeah. Yeah.
Liam: Yeah? I-I got the feeling from before that I--
Hope: Oh, no, I'm-- I'm fine. I'm fine.
Liam: Okay, good.
Hope: (Chuckles) Yeah. You know, nothing is going to get in the way for us tonight. It'll be great. It will.
Steffy: You know I've been dealing with a lot lately.
Ridge: Of course. I know it's been a very difficult time for you.
Steffy: And nothing I've done has made it any better. I've tried throwing myself into work. I've tried talking to my mom, talking to my friends. I think I need something else, but, um, I don't know how you're gonna feel about it.
Ridge: Sounds serious.
Brooke: If you need to talk in private...
Steffy: No, you know what? Um, you might as well hear this, too. Look, um, I made a decision, and it wasn't easy, but with everything that I'm going through right now, I just, uh...
Brooke: Is this decision about you and Liam?
Steffy: Not the one you're hoping for, Brooke.
Ridge: What is it?
Steffy: I can't stay here anymore.
Ridge: What does that mean?
Steffy: I can't stay in L.A. I'm leaving.
Ridge: You're leaving Los Angeles?
Steffy: There's nothing you can do to talk me out of it. I've already made all the arrangements.
Ridge: Wait a minute. Wait, where are you going?
Steffy: Aspen.
Brooke: On vacation?
Ridge: Steffy, if you need a break...
Steffy: No, I-I told you, Dad, I can't be here. Look, I can't sit in my office praying Hope won't skip by my door. I can't stand the sympathetic looks and the "I'm so sorry's." I just need to get away.
Ridge: For how long?
Steffy: I don't know.
Ridge: Steffy, we got a new collection we're building here. You can take a week, maybe two, but any time after that is--
Steffy: Dad, I-I can still work from there. The Spencer retreat is amazing. They have videoconferencing, Internet. They have everything.
Ridge: Bill's place? Come on, Steffy. That's not what you need right now.
Steffy: Dad, Bill won't be there.
Ridge: This is still out of the question.
Brooke: I'm gonna go upstairs and... (Sighs) let you two talk this out.
Steffy: (Sighs) Dad, there's nothing left to talk about.
Ridge: Sweetheart, I know this hurts, and I understand what you're trying to do here, but I'm sorry. This isn't something you can just... run away from.
Steffy: (Sighs)
Liam: So why don't you stay a while, you know...
Hope: (Chuckles)
Liam: Relax.
Hope: Oh, wine?
Liam: Uh, yeah, I mean, w-we don't have to. I just figured, end of the night, sit by the fire, unwind.
Hope: Oh, yeah, yeah. Just, uh, just a little bit for me. Enough, yeah.
Liam: Yeah, okay, sure. Sure.
Hope: (Sighs) Thank you.
Liam: Uh-huh.
Hope: (Chuckles)
Liam: To us.
(Glasses clink)
Hope: To us. (Chuckles) Mmm.
Liam: Listen, you, um, said something before about... about not letting anything get to you. I mean, that was... that was about Steffy, right?
Hope: Mm.
Liam: I'm--I'm asking because I-I ran into her at the office today, and, Hope, if she's making you feel guilty at all--
Hope: You know, I-I don't want to talk about Steffy.
Liam: No, no, no, let me-- let me just say this let me just say this.
Hope: Okay.
Liam: You're moving in. We're trying to start our lives together. Um, Steffy may lash out and say things.
Hope: Okay, well, I-I she does, I mean, I guess I can't really blame her. She's probably jealous. Her relationship with you is over, and ours is just beginning. We have so much to look forward to.
Liam: Yeah, good. Exactly. And we have the rest of our lives, so there's no need to rush. You just tell me exactly what you need, because I want this night to be enjoyable for you.
Hope: It will be, for both of us.
Ridge: Steffy, let me help you. Don't go to Bill on this. Yon lean on your family.
Steffy: Dad, I don't want to lean on anybody.
Ridge: There are other places you can go. You--international, I can set up a junket.
Steffy: No, I-I don't want to do press. They're just gonna ask me about Liam.
Ridge: All right, I'll handle the press. In fact, I'll handle everything.
Steffy: You'd go away with me?
Ridge: Thomas can come, too, just like when you were kids. We'll make an adventure out of it. When was the last time that you went to that little gelato place that we love in Milano, huh? Remember that little mom-and-pop place that, uh, in the piazza? I think the son still runs it now.
Steffy: (Chuckles) You think ice cream is gonna make me feel better? (Laughs)
Ridge: I know you're not a little girl anymore.
Steffy: (Sniffles)
Ridge: And I know that going away on a trip with your dad is not gonna help solve all your problems. I just don't want you to be alone. Even if you don't want to go away with me, at least take your brother with you.
Steffy: (Sighs)
Ridge: He's not feeling too great about the way things have turned out, either.
Steffy: (Sighs) Thanks, Dad. Um... but no, I-I need to do this on my own in Aspen.
Ridge: Why, when you have so many memories there?
Steffy: I need to honor them. You know, Katie and Hope and Brooke, they don't believe what Liam and I had was real. They think our marriage was just a-a detour on the road to everlasting bliss with Hope. But it wasn't like that. What we shared was incredible. We were happy. And on some level, we still do love each other. That's why I'm going to Aspen, to remember what true happiness feels like, and if I can do that, hey, maybe I can find it again. Dad, I have to get past this. Somehow... I have to.
Liam: Well, this is nice.
Hope: It's wonderful.
Liam: Yeah. Just being here with you-- well, and waking up next to you--
Hope: (Laughs)
Liam: It feels, um, it feels right, you know?
Hope: It does.
Liam: (Laughs)
Hope: (Laughs) Liam, I-I-I know that you were worried after last night--
Liam: No, that's just because of the thing you said about sleeping with a married man, and I--
Hope: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Liam: No, don't be, if that's how you felt.
Hope: You know, I think... (Sighs) I think I was just-- I was tired, and stressed out, and I just got overwhelmed. You know, I-I think I was so busy trying to create the perfect moment...
Liam: Oh.
Hope: That I couldn't just relax and let the moment be perfect... like this one.
Steffy: Uh, you know, since Dad's still on the phone, I'm, uh, I'm gonna go.
Brooke: Steffy, wait.
Steffy: Just tell him I said good-bye.
Brooke: No, you two weren't finished. He'll be done in a minute.
Steffy: Look, I-I told you because I knew you'd find out anyway, so we don't have to talk about it.
Brooke: (Sighs) I just wanted to tell you that I'm proud of you, taking time for yourself like this. It can be very valuable. I know. I've been there. I understand. Making a choice, trying to figure out what the right decision is for your life is very difficult. But you're taking the right step in the right direction in order to heal. What I don't understand is, why Aspen? Why the Spencer retreat?
Steffy: I'm gonna be alone there, so you don't have anything to worry about.
Brooke: Well, I... (Sighs) If you're really trying to move forward with your life, why would you want to go to Aspen?
Steffy: Okay, you know, I've already explained it to Dad, so, um, he can fill you in.
Brooke: Why don't you tell me? I'd like to hear it from you. What are you doing?
Steffy: You mean, what am I up to? That's what you're asking me, Brooke.
Brooke: Steffy, I just don't think it's the best choice to go to Aspen, and clearly, neither did you father.
Steffy: Dad didn't get it in the beginning, but now he does.
Brooke: Well, explain it to me.
Steffy: What is so hard to understand? My husband is living with another woman, and I am sick about it. What is wrong with spending a few weeks in the last place that I was truly happy in?
Brooke: Because that's where you and Liam got married.
Steffy: Yes. And it's also where I made the first big mistake with Liam. I need to remember that, too. The truth is, Liam wouldn't be with Hope if I hadn't been so stressed out, if I hadn't panicked. But the one thing I learned about Liam is that he demands honesty in a relationship.
Liam: Are you feeling better?
Hope: Mm. Yes... (Chuckles) I am.
Liam: (Chuckles)
Hope: Mm.
Liam: Hey.
Hope: Hmm?
Liam: You know, you can tell me all those thoughts in your head.
Hope: Mm.
Steffy: Dad's still on the phone--Hong Kong. It looks like he's gonna be on for a while.
Brooke: You're welcome to wait.
Steffy: I've already said enough.
Brooke: One more thing before you go. Since you said that you're so willing to move on with your life, do you think maybe you have an extra copy of those annulment papers?
Steffy: You've got to be kidding me.
Brooke: Well, if you do, just take them with you and think about it.
Steffy: No.
Brooke: Steffy, you're already taking such positive steps.
Steffy: Yeah, and maybe they lead away from Liam, or maybe they don't.
Brooke: You didn't lose Liam because you weren't honest about your feelings to him. You lost him because of his feelings for Hope.
Steffy: And what is he feeling now? Have you talked to him since their big night? I have, and it just seems like, um, I don't know, something's off. Maybe things didn't go well for them.
Brooke: Oh. Uh, that is really none of your business.
Steffy: So you're not denying it.
Brooke: All I'm gonna say is that Hope and Liam love each other, and they are committed to each other. And they're not going to let anything or anybody stand in their way of their future.
Steffy: Except there is something standing in their way-- this ring.
Brooke: (Sighs)
Steffy: And I'm not taking it off, not until our divorce is final. He is my husband. I am Mrs. Spencer. And your daughter is living with a married man.
Brooke: Hope is not the "other woman"!
Steffy: Uh, legally she is. Morally, too, and she knows it. But hey, you know, she can relax. I'm going out of town. So she doesn't have to worry about avoiding me at the office or feel uncomfortable when people call me "Mrs. Spencer." No, she can get those ugly thoughts right out of her mind... at least for a while. Yeah, six months is a-- it's a pretty long time. Anything could happen.
(Door closes)
Brooke: (Sighs)
Hope: (Sighs) (Chuckles) (Sighs) Mm. I am exactly where I'm supposed to be doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing with the man I love.
Liam: (Chuckles) I'm glad to hear that.
Hope: Mm. Mm. Tell me it will always be like this.
Liam: (Sighs) It might get even better.
Hope: (Chuckles) You know what? I think we should completely forget about last night.
Liam: (Chuckles)
Hope: This... this... is the first day of our lives together.
