Steffy: I swear to you, Liam, I had nothing to do with faking that test!
Liam: Why should I believe you, Steffy? Why should I believe a thing you say to me?
Steffy: Look, I-I know I've lied to you before, but I am not lying to you now.
Hope: Okay, so you're saying that the doctor lied, that he made it all up?
Steffy: No, it wasn't the doctor.
Liam: It was my dad.
Steffy: Yes.
Hope: And you had nothing to do with it?
Steffy: When I saw the M.R.I., I assumed it was mine. I didn't know the M.R.I. was bogus.
Hope: So Bill did this all on his own?
Liam: No. No, she and my dad have been teaming up ever since the moment we got married...
Steffy: No.
Liam: Only this time, they went too far. Making me think that you were on the verge of a stroke, Steffy? How could you do that to me? Who are you?
(Footsteps approach)
Ridge: (Exhales rhythmically)
Brooke: (Sighs)
Ridge: Oh, hey. You all right?
Brooke: (Sighs) (Chuckles)
Brooke: Liam and Steffy-- I'm afraid their marriage might be over.
Bill: Ramon, you did everything I asked of you, and I'm not gonna forget it. Yeah. Uh, I gotta go. All right, bye.
Justin: So what's up?
Bill: Cat's out of the bag.
Justin: Katie found out?
Bill: She told Liam and Steffy.
Justin: Ohh, man. Yeah, this is bad.
Bill: My wife and my son, Steffy, they all want nothing to do with me.
Justin: Well, can you blame them?
Bill: Nope. I tried to save my son's marriage, and instead, I may have destroyed it.
Justin: So what now?
Bill: What now? (Sighs) "What now" is that I find some way out of this, because I'm not gonna lose my family.
Ridge: They're breaking up?
Brooke: I don't know. I was talking to Hope, and then Liam showed up--
Taylor: Hi. Uh, we were just heading over to see Steffy and maybe grab a bite to eat. We thought maybe you'd like to tag along.
Ridge: You'd better hold off on that one.
Thomas: Why?
Ridge: There appears to be something going on.
Brooke: I was just telling Ridge that it appears that Liam and Steffy might be ending their marriage.
Taylor: What?
Thomas: No way.
Ridge: Do you want to tell us how this came about?
Brooke: (Sighs)
Justin: (Sighs) So it was Katie who took the M.R.I. off of Alison's desk.
Bill: And showed it to her doctor.
Justin: Who confirmed the diagnosis?
Bill: Yep, and told Katie that it wasn't Steffy's M.R.I.
Justin: Mm.
Bill: She compared it to the scans from when Steffy hit her head in the bathtub, and it wasn't the same brain. (Liquid pouring)
Justin: Ohh, man.
Bill: I know. My family's looking at me like I'm a criminal, and I've gotta find some way to make it right. (Sighs)
Steffy: Liam, you have to know, I would never do something like this.
Liam: Oh, so all the blame goes to my dad. Okay.
Steffy: No, I do not want you blaming your father.
Liam: Why? Why? Why not, if what you're saying is true?
Steffy: Because he is your only parent, and you are his only son. Look, what he did is so wrong, and I am so furious with him, but you know him. When he wants something, he takes control. He doesn't even think about the consequences.
Hope: Why are you defending him, Steffy?
Liam: Especially after everything's that's happened? You and my father have a history, Steffy a history of lies and trickery and manipulation. And be honest with me-- just for once, just be honest with me-- this is a chapter in that history, isn't it?
Steffy: No.
Liam: You and my father switched the MRIs...
Steffy: (Sighs)
Liam: Just like you and my father stopped the gondola in Aspen.
Steffy: You were gonna leave me... after everything that happened in Cabo. That is probably why your dad took such drastic measures.
Hope: Wow. You're not gonna change your story.
Steffy: It's true. Liam, there are things, I admit, that I am---I'm not proud of. But this isn't one of them. I honestly thought that I was going to die. You know, we are both victims here.
Liam: Steffy, how many times have I believed you when I shouldn't have?
Steffy: Okay. Look, maybe I didn't-- I didn't deserve your forgiveness in the past. But I don't need your forgiveness now, because I know I did nothing wrong. Everything that happened between Bill and the doctor, I had no knowledge about, and I wouldn't even agree to it. Hope, Liam and I are married. Do you really want to end our marriage over something that I didn't do? I mean, I get that you love him. But I love him, too, more than I can put into words. I didn't fabricate this lie. (Voice breaking) You've got to believe me.
Liam: Come on, Hope. We need some answers.
Ridge: You're sure about this? Liam said he was leaving Steffy?
Taylor: And then he kissed Hope right in front of you?
Brooke: That's exactly what happened.
Thomas: So the fact that her condition is critical and that she can't be upset, that meant nothing to Liam?
Brooke: Liam said she was fine. So did Steffy.
Ridge: But she's not fine, Logan. She has a blood clot in her brain.
Taylor: If she has any kind of stress, she could have a stroke.
Steffy: Mom, I'm not gonna have a stroke. Oh, my God.
Taylor: Oh, my gosh. Oh, my go-- oh, I have been so worried about you.
Steffy: (Sighs) No, no, no, no need. You don't have to worry, okay? No need.
Ridge: No, there isn't any need, because we're not gonna let you out of our sight.
Thomas: Hey, Sis, come here.
Steffy: (Sighs)
Thomas: I missed you.
Steffy: Yeah.
Thomas: Mm.
Steffy: (Sighs)
Thomas: (Sighs)
Steffy: But it's-- it's really okay. Um, the blood clot is-- it's gone.
Taylor: What? No.
Ridge: It's gone?
Steffy: Yeah.
Ridge: What do you mean, it's gone?
Taylor: No, Honey.
Steffy: It's gone.
Taylor: No, it--it takes more than a couple of weeks to just go away.
Steffy: I-I kn--I know. I'm, uh, I'm surprised, too, at it, but that's what the M.R.I.-- they confirmed it.
Taylor: Wha-- wow. Really?
Steffy: Yeah.
Taylor: (Gasps) Oh, my goodness, that's so great, Honey.
Steffy: I know.
Taylor: Oh, that's great.
Steffy: (Laughs) I know.
Ridge: Oh, Sweetie.
Taylor: That's good news.
Thomas: (Chuckles)
Brooke: (Sighs)
Taylor: Well, uh, listen, uh, Brooke was telling us that there might be a problem with you and Liam.
Ridge: He's not walking out on you, is he?
Bill: (Sighs)
Liam: I want the whole story.
Bill: I assume Steffy tracked you down.
Liam: The truth, Dad, what is it?
Bill: That's the funny thing about the truth, Liam-- it doesn't always set you free.
Liam: Neither do lies.
Bill: At the hospital in Mexico, you intended to tell Steffy you were leaving her? Am I wrong?
Liam: No, you're not, but that doesn't justify what you did.
Bill: And what was I supposed to do when I think my son is gonna make the biggest mistake of his life? Just sit back and do nothing?
Liam: I am not your puppet, Dad. It's not your right.
Bill: I realize you're upset.
Liam: No, you don't even begin to realize. What did you do? Did you-- did you bribe the doctor to switch the MRIs?
Bill: I made a generous contribution to the hospital.
Liam: How philanthropic.
Bill: All right, ok, Son, you gotta understa--
Liam: Don't-- don't call me that, 'cause I don't feel like your son right now. I feel like a chess pawn. And what about Steffy? Is she in on this?
Steffy: Liam's upset with me.
Taylor: Honey, what happened?
Steffy: It was, um, it was just a-a misunderstanding.
Ridge: What kind of misunderstanding?
Steffy: Well, it... (Sighs) It all goes back to Cabo, everything that just happened down there.
Thomas: And what happened in Cabo is that Liam couldn't keep his hands off Hope.
Steffy: It was a little more complicated than that, Thomas.
Thomas: How can you side with him, Steffy? He's stringing you along-- Hope, too.
Ridge: Thomas, just-- okay, that's enough. So where do things stand now?
Steffy: Well, I'm not giving up my marriage.
Ridge: How can we help? Do you want me to have a talk with Liam?
Steffy: No, no, no. You know what? He's not the bad guy in this.
Thomas: Who is?
Steffy: Well, you and me, partially. There's a lot of things we should not have done at the resort.
Thomas: We had our reasons, Steffy. The guy is obsessed.
Steffy: Yeah, the-there's no excuse, okay? We made it even worse.
Ridge: Okay, let me ask you a question here.
Steffy: (Sighs) Yeah.
Ridge: Is Bill Spencer involved in any of this?
Steffy: Look, I-I don't-- I don't want to talk about my father-in-law, okay?
Ridge: I'll take that as a yes.
Taylor: Do you have any idea where Liam is right now?
Brooke: Is he still with Hope?
Steffy: Uh, yeah. Yeah, actually, they, um, they went to see Bill.
Ridge: Why?
Steffy: Okay, look, um, I just-- I want everyone to know that I'm fine, okay? I have been through a horrible ordeal, but physically, I'm okay. As for my marriage, Liam loves me, and I love him, and we're gonna get through this.
Liam: Answer me, Dad-- was Steffy involved?
Bill: She had nothing to o with it.
Hope: And we're just supposed to take your word on that?
Bill: She wasn't involved.
Liam: Why did you do it?
Bill: Because when I see a problem, I have to act. That's just who I am.
Liam: Yeah, and what about when it hurts people? What is that to you? Collateral damage?
Bill: I don't always think about that.
Hope: You are an arrogant man.
Bill: Yes, I am. It's a byproduct of my success.
Liam: Yeah, well, you weren't very successful this time.
Bill: No, I wasn't, Son, and I regret that.
Hope: I really hope that you're not asking for forgiveness, Bill, because I am not in a forgiving mood. What you did was cruel and destructive-- to Liam, to Steffy, and to me.
Liam: And to your wife.
Bill: And I'm suffering the consequences for that.
Hope: And what about the rest of us, Bill? How is Liam ever supposed to get over what you did to him? And Steffy-- you--you made her believe that she was dying. And Ridge and Taylor-- think about what you put them through. They have already lost one daughter, and you made them believe that they could lose another one. And then there's me, the thorn in your side, the one that you just love to hate.
Bill: I don't hate you, Hope. In fact, I respect you more than I ever did.
Hope: (Sighs) Stop feeding me lines, Bill.
Bill: I owe you, and I will make it up to you.
Hope: No, I will not be bought by you.
Ridge: Thank God she's all right.
Taylor: Huh. Well, I-I'd say it's nothing short of a miracle. I ju--I-I can't believe she's recovered so quickly.
Thomas: And now we just have to get that marriage back on track.
Taylor: Y--well, no, she said it was just a misunderstanding, so I know that they're gonna work things out.
Brooke: Oh, I think it was a little bit more than a misunderstanding.
Ridge: We don't know that, Logan.
Brooke: (Sighs) I really hate to disappoint you, but the way Liam rushed over to see Hope...
Taylor: No, he was just upset, Brooke. It sounds like they had an argument, and then he overreacted.
Brooke: It was bigger than life. It was truly a very romantic... moment. I really would be surprised if Hope and Liam aren't committed to each other again.
Liam: You went too far, Dad. You can't treat your family like you treat a business deal.
Bill: I know that. I'm still learning.
Hope: (Scoffs)
Bill: Will you help me?
Hope: And how would you like us to help you, Bill?
Bill: By keeping this quiet.
Hope: Are you kidding me? Why would I do anything for you after all the things that you have done to me? You forced me to watch Liam marry Steffy. You kept me from your son because he just had to be by his sick wife's side. You have done nothing but cause me pain, and you never gave it a second thought.
Bill: And I was wrong. Anything you want-- anything-- I will give it to you.
Hope: I want your respect, I want your support, and I want your son.
Liam: So how can I help you?
Bill: By forgiving me.
Liam: I don't know if I can do that.
Bill: I tried to handle this the way I handle everything-- solve the problem, cut deal, case closed. But being a father isn't like being a C.E.O. but I really did think I was doing the best thing for you.
Liam: You manipulated people's lives.
Bill: I treated you disrespectfully. It wasn't right. But don't let it be a deal-breaker.
Liam: See, this is what I'm talking about, Dad. Our relationship shouldn't be like a deal. You're my father. Why can't you treat me like a son?
Bill: I do treat you like a son. I'm there for you in ways that my father was never there for me. Maybe that's why I do the things I do. Maybe I'm overcompensating. But I can't do better if you don't give me a chance!
(Door opens)
Steffy: I hope you told them the truth...
Bill: (Sighs)
Steffy: That I'm not a part of this insane plan of yours.
Bill: I told them.
Steffy: And what? Do they believe you? 'Cause I can see why they wouldn't. Liam?
Bill: (Inhales sharply) Steffy was not involved in this. You want to hate somebody, hate me, but you cannot hold her responsible. She had nothing to do with it. So you can't end your marriage over this. Hope, I'm sorry I put you through this. But these two are married, and I'm not going to interfere and you shouldn't, either. Liam, you have two wonderful women here. It's an honor to have their affections. But you're only married to one of them, and I implore you to honor your vows. Do what's right-- stay with your wife.
