Bridget: All right, Jackie. Owen's on his way.

Jackie: Well, of course he is. He's anxious to know who the father of your baby is.

Bridget: He loves you, Jackie.

Jackie: (Sighs) Well, we're about to find out, aren't we, when he gets here?

Bridget: You know, we don't need to test your husband.

Jackie: You don’t. I do. Turn that off, would you? I don't want any interruptions when he gets here.

Bridget: Where will you be?

Jackie: Upstairs hiding.

Bridget: I don't know that I can do this. I really don’t.

Jackie: You have no choice, okay? No choice.

Bridget: Owen's gonna know I'm lying. I am not very good at this.

Jackie: Well, we'll see, won't we? We'll find out.

Bridget: Please, please, please don't make me do this.

Jackie: What are you afraid of, Bridget? Do you think that Owen’s gonna throw himself into your arms?

Bridget: No. I know he won’t. He'll be relieved. I just don't want to lie to Owen and to my husband and to my family and eventually my own child. It's wrong.

Jackie: What's wrong is the fact that you were unfaithful to your husband, to my son. You have betrayed us. All of us. And now you are going to make it right.

(Car approaches)

Jackie: That's Owen. You know what you have to do.

(Car door shuts)

Nick: Bridget, hi, uh, give me a call when you get this, will you? I love you.

Aggie: Trying to track down your wife?

Nick: Hey.

Aggie: Hey.

Nick: Yeah. I guess her battery's dead.

Aggie: Yeah, or maybe she's involved in something too important to be disturbed.

Nick: By the sound of your voice, it sounds like you're worrying.

Aggie: Yeah.

Nick: Well, don't worry about Bridget. She's gonna be fine.

Aggie: Bridget wasn't supposed to get pregnant.

Nick: I just have to believe, you know, things happen for a reason.

Aggie: Is she as happy about it as you are?

Nick: Well, I think she's overwhelmed. This wasn't expected.

Aggie: (Chuckles) No, I imagine it wasn’t.

Nick: The funny thing is, you know, when you had your miscarriage, everything seemed so hopeless. You know, Bridget storms out of the hospital. I can't find her. I'm going completely crazy worrying about her, hoping that she's safe and just praying that someone is with her, and, you know, now it just seems all so insignificant.

Aggie: It wasn’t.

Nick: Well, it got us to this point, and we're having a baby.

Aggie: You know, they say that pregnant women have a glow about them. I guess that's true of pregnant women's husbands, too.

Nick: It's a miracle, Aggie. I really don't know any other way I can look at it.

Aggie: I hope that you get your miracle, Nick. I do. I really mean that. I want you to be happy. You deserve it.

Nick: Thank you. (Chuckles) I think I'd better get home to my wife and see how she's doing.

Aggie: Okay.

Nick: All right. I'll talk to you in the morning.

Aggie: Okay.

Nick: Thanks.

Owen: Are we alone?

Bridget: Yes. Yeah. Uh, come in.

Owen: Look, when I called, why didn't you just tell me the results?

Bridget: Because I wanted to tell you in person.

Owen: Well, okay, I'm here. Is the baby mine, or is it Nick's?

Aggie: (Chuckles)

Oliver: Looks like I'm just in time.

Aggie: (Sighs) Hi.

Oliver: Are you ready for dinner? Or...

Aggie: Right.

Oliver: You forgot.

Aggie: No. How could I forget dinner with my baby brother?

Oliver: (Chuckles) You got a lot on your mind.

Aggie: Yeah. Yeah.

Oliver: Something about Nick?

Aggie: No, it's about Bridget, actually.

Oliver: What about her?

Aggie: She's pregnant.

Oliver: What?

Aggie: Nick just told me.

Oliver: What did he say? I mean, w-what did you say?

Aggie: I congratulated him.

Oliver: Was-- was Bridget with him?

Aggie: No. She's at the hospital. She's having some sort of genetic test to make sure the baby's okay.

Oliver: Is something wrong, or...

Aggie: No, Nick just thinks it's precautionary.

Oliver: What do you think?

Aggie: Well, there is something else that C.V.S. can be used to test for.

Oliver: What?

Aggie: Paternity.

Owen: Bridget, look, why don't you just tell me?

Bridget: I wish I didn't have to. I wish we weren't even in this position.

Owen: Oh, God, Bridget. Does that-- does that mean that I--

Bridget: (Stammers) I just-- tell me you feel the same way.

Owen: What--what are you talking about?

Bridget: We had sex, and it was wrong. You agree.

Owen: Look, Bridget, am I the father or am I not?

Bridget: It's really important to me that we're on the same page about this.

Owen: Okay, yes, I regret it. I mean, look at our lives. We're both lying to our spouses. You're under a lot of stress. The--the baby's under stress. It's--it's not healthy for you to be under this kind of pressure.

Bridget: I don't want you worrying about me.

Owen: Well, you know what? I can't help it. You're not supposed to be pregnant by me or by anybody else. This is a health issue for you.

Bridget: I am fine. I'm fine.

Owen: Look, I'm not the enemy here. I-I just--I care about you. That's it.

Bridget: Well, I don't need you caring about me. I have a husband.

Owen: Yeah, I know you have a husband. You have a husband who loves you very much. But if he isn't the father...

Bridget: He... he... he is.

Owen: What-- what did you just say?

Bridget: Nick is the father of the baby.

Owen: Really? Is that-- is that what the test showed? Well, so I guess we just-- just go back to our lives then.

Bridget: Yes. That's what we both wanted, right?

Owen: Yeah, right.

Bridget: Owen, you could be a little bit more enthusiastic about it.

Owen: You know, to tell you the truth, I'm just feeling a little disappointed.

Bridget: You're disappointed? Owen, that is not what you mean.

Owen: Well, it isn't any secret how badly I wanted to be a father.

Bridget: But you didn't want one by me. If I were carrying your baby, you would not be able to take any joy in that.

Owen: Both of our marriages would have been destroyed.

Bridget: And neither one of us wanted that.

Owen: I don't know. It's just the thought of-- of losing my wife. It... I don't know. I can't even think about it. She means everything to me.

Bridget: She means everything to you, right. And you two are so good together.

Owen: Yeah, but it just-- it kills me to think that she has total trust in me, and I turn around, and I do something like this to her. I betrayed her. I totally betrayed her. Just--I wish this whole thing never would have happened. You know, I wish it for--for you. I wish it for Nick. But most of all, I wish it for Jackie. She thinks that I'm this perfect husband, and-- and that's what I want to be, because that's what she deserves. So how could I turn around and do this to her?

Bridget: I should have never let myself lean on you.

Owen: Look it, you weren't yourself.

Bridget: Neither of us was.

Owen: But you love your husband, and I love my wife. We just go back to the way that things were, and we protect our marriage, and they don't need to know about this. It's pretty crazy. I guess things turned out for the best. Listen, I, um, I'm gonna get going. Take care of yourself, and take care of the baby, because you're giving my, uh, my wife a-a grandchild. And I can't tell you how much that means to her.

Jackie: (Sniffles) He loves me. He loves me. (Sighs) (Laughs)

Oliver: Don't pretend like you didn't hear me. There's gotta be a part of you that hopes Bridget’s baby's Owen’s.

Aggie: I can't think like that, Oliver. You should see Nick. He is so happy. It's gotta be his. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Oliver: Even if it means the end of his marriage if Owen’s the father?

Aggie: Yeah, the end of his marriage and the end of his happiness, too. I love him too much to see that happen.

Bridget: My God, this is a nightmare.

Jackie: A nightmare? The nightmare begins if Nick finds out that you're carrying Owen’s child. We'll both lose our marriages. The company will be ruined because of the scandal. And for what? A baby that may not be born.

Bridget: Stop saying that.

Nick: Hey, you're home.

Jackie: (Chuckles)

Nick: Is something going on here?

Jackie: Oh, now why would you say that? (Laughs)

Nick: Does it have something to do with the baby?

Jackie: No, no. The--the baby is fine. Right, Bridget? Well, I've-- I've really got to be going. Why don't you two just have a wonderful evening? Bridget, would you walk me to the car?

Jackie: Have a lovely evening. (Chuckles) Mwah. You better shake the mood, or he's gonna have questions. Whose child is this?

Bridget: It's Nick's baby.

Jackie: (Sighs) You and my son are gonna make me a grandmother again. I couldn't be happier.

Bridget: (Sighs)

Nick: You want to tell me what that was all about?

Jackie: Oh.

Owen: Hey.

Jackie: (Gasps) (Sighs) Is there a power outage, or...

Owen: No, I've just been waiting for you.

Jackie: Is there something you want to tell me?

Owen: Yes. Just how much I need to be with you tonight.

Jackie: I need that, too.

Owen: Did you have a tough day?

Jackie: (Chuckles) You could say that. What about you? H-How was yours?

Owen: It was one of those days when you realize just how precious and precarious life can be-- the, uh, person that you love, the, uh, things that you love. Jackie, I don't want to live my life without you.

Jackie: Well, a-are you trying to say that you think that you might have to?

Owen: No. God, no. No. Look, everything I am is because of you.

Jackie: Except one thing. You're not a daddy.

Owen: Well, I'm past that issue.

Jackie: Are you sure? You're sure you don't wish that you were a father?

Owen: Look, I don't wish for anything, because I've got everything that I want. But just sometimes, it... sometimes you need to be reminded.

Jackie: You had that reminder?

Owen: Well, let's just say that I am more grateful now for everything that I have than I've ever been, and I've got you, my lover and my best friend. You're the reason I am who I am today, the only woman that I could ever love.

Jackie: (Sighs)

Nick: How's Jack?

Bridget: (Sighs) He's good. I finally got him back to sleep. (Tapping wedding band on glass)

Nick: You want to talk about it?

Bridget: (Sighs) Talk about what?

Nick: I come home, and I find you and my mother in the middle of the living room in something very heavy. Does this have anything to do with the baby? Something happen at the hospital?

Bridget: (Sighs)

Nick: Bridget?

Bridget: (Sighs) Honey, you know your mom. She's just worried.

Nick: Hey, we're in this together. This is our baby. We created this beautiful thing. So if there's ever anything that you need to tell me about this pregnancy, you really have to share it with me, whatever it is. You know, we love each other too much to have any secrets. Okay?

Bridget: Mm-hmm.

Nick: Okay.

Bridget: (Chuckles) (Sighs)

Nick: I'm gonna take my drink, go upstairs and take a shower.

Bridget: Okay. I'll be up in a minute.

Nick: All right.

(Cell phone rings)

(Rings)

Bridget: Hello?

Jackie: Are you alone?

Bridget: Yeah, yeah. Um, Nick's--Nick's upstairs.

Jackie: You didn't say anything, did you? What did you tell him?

Bridget: I, um, I told him the baby was fine. Our baby was fine.

Jackie: (Sighs) Good girl. Good night, Bridget.

Bridget: Good night.

Nick: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be insensitive. You're scared, aren't you?

Bridget: (Sighs) You know, I am.

Nick: Well, don't be. Come on. (Chuckles) This little child is exactly what we want. This baby, you know, this our miracle, right?

Bridget: Mm-hmm.

Nick: (Chuckles) Come on. We're finally gonna have the baby we always wanted.
