Taylor: Why not? How much worse do things have to get? Really, Ridge. Look at it. Here--here you are, a father of four. You're a world-renowned designer. You're one of the wealthiest, most-photographed men in L.A., and here you are homeless, living out of your car.
Ridge: I'm not living out of my car.
Taylor: And here we are, having never wanted you to go away. We never stopped wanting you to come back. And we're telling you that home doesn't feel like home without you here.
Ridge: (Sighs)
Taylor: So just come home.
Katie: Guess what?
Nick: Is he--
Katie: Asleep. Down for the count.
Nick: All right. We gotta be quiet this time.
Katie: Okay, well, I'm not the one who's a crybaby.
Nick: Well, I know that, but sometimes you get a little crazy.
Katie: What? A girl can't get excited?
Nick: Well, it blows my concentration.
Katie: That's because you don't have any staying power.
Nick: Because you're all over the place.
Katie: It's amazing. After five minutes, no stamina.
Nick: All right, you ready? Who's gonna take it out first, huh, baby? Who's gonna take it out?
Katie: Uh-huh. Uh-huh. I think that would be me. That would be me.
Nick: Give me the ball. No, that doesn't--
Katie: Katie--Katie goes in for the slam-dunk.
Nick: That doesn't count because we have to tip it off-- shh!
Katie: (Laughs) Sorry. Mwah. (Giggles)
(Cell phone rings)
Rick: (Grunts) (grunts)
Brooke: Rick! What are you doing?
Rick: (Sighs)
Ridge: Did you orchestrate all this?
Stephanie: No. I would have if I thought I could get away with it.
Thomas: Yeah, Dad, she didn't.
Steffy: And nobody planned anything. We just-- we just kind of just let our guard down and found out we had the same wish, the same secret. You remember what I told you.
Ridge: Yes, I do.
Steffy: I mean, I-I just hoped you and Mom would get back together, and I know it's selfish. I do. But I'm not asking for my childhood back. That was great, but it's done, and I love who I am and who Thomas and Phoebe are. I just miss all of us together. It's kind of like we had the same nervous system.
Thomas: Yeah, whatever happened to one of us rippled through the whole family. You know, we were that connected. And I never felt alone, even when the girls were away at school.
Steffy: Yeah, neither did we. Is that the same feeling you're trying to give R.J. by marrying Brooke? Because that I would understand.
Stephanie: Oh, I would imagine that family dynamic is something that's completely different. You know, I mean, Brooke has four children by four different men, and they're really only connected through her.
Steffy: Or maybe this fantasy was just all in my head. Maybe every kid thinks they have the most beautiful mom and the smartest, handsomest dad. Maybe every family's special, and there's nothing special about ours. Or do you even remember it that way?
Ridge: Yeah, I do remember it.
Steffy: Then don't you ever miss it, too?
Nick: (Winded) Movin' around. It's a tie game. It's a tie game.
Katie: Oh, oh, you think-- honest? Seriously?
Nick: I'm ending on a tie. Seriously.
Katie: Aw. Aw, baby. Do you want me to get you some oxygen, grandpa?
Nick: Hey, who chases the ball when you throw it wild?
Katie: Did I ask you to?
Nick: No, but you're always giving me that look of "Don't forget I'm a-- I'm a heart transplant victim."
Katie: Oh, you know, if you didn't smoke those little cigars that you think that I don't notice you smoking, you probably wouldn't wheeze so much.
Nick: (Mocking) Hey, keep your hands off my nuts.
Katie: Hey, I thought it was winner takes all.
Nick: Winner gets nada. It was a tie.
Katie: Well, who says they're just yours?
Nick: Because I brought them home. I'm the one who protected them from the elements. I'm the one who shelled them.
Katie: Oh, I see. I see. Well, in that case, let me feed you one.
Nick: That's very nice. Thank you.
Katie: Yes, and don't talk with your mouth full, please. I have a question.
Nick: Okay.
Katie: And my question is...
Nick: Yeah.
Katie: Do you think we'll always be this happy? Hmm?
Brooke: Oh, my God, what were you thinking? I know you're impatient, and I know you want to do the things that you used to be doing, but right now...
Rick: (Groans)
Brooke: You're just not ready.
Rick: Okay, okay. I get it.
Brooke: Honey, you will get the strength back in your legs, and you'll start to feel them soon, and you're gonna get up out of this bed, and you are gonna walk. But it's too soon. You'll injure yourself all over again.
Rick: You make this sound like this was self-inflicted. It wasn't.
Brooke: (Sighs) I want to take care of you, and I want to help you, but you have to let me. So don't try to get up out of this bed without me here.
Rick: Mom, I want to take care of you, too.
Brooke: Honey, that's very sweet of you. But there's nothing wrong with me. Oh, my gosh, you know, I told your father to turn that off and put it somewhere so it wouldn't wake you up.
Rick: No. How am I supposed to download porn without it?
Brooke: I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. Eat your lunch.
Ridge: Those were wonderful time when you kids were growing up. But it's not right to hang onto a happiness that's passed. You give every season of your life its due. You live it to its fullest. And then you have to let go.
Stephanie: Well, is that what you're doing, honey? Are you trying to hang on to a moment of happiness with Brooke that's passed? Because I don't think anybody here sees anything about that relationship that makes them want to jump for joy. I mean, Rick has always been a pain in the ass, but Nick-- Nick has become kind of a-- (sighs) a revolving door, it seems to me, that-- through which your relationship with Brooke continuously goes. And now she-- she wants you to raise his baby. So--so where does "Happily ever after" fit into that? And we're not even gonna mention the in-laws. (Chuckles) I'm not gonna go there. It's just all so chaotic. And I'm not criticizing Brooke. I think everyone here just wants to try and understand the dynamic of that relationship. Because it seems to everybody here that with you and Brooke, it's just get together, break up, get together, break up and, you know, just a whole lot of disappointment left over for you.
Taylor: But it's because he loves Brooke.
Ridge: Yes, I do. Is that so difficult to understand?
Taylor: No. No, of course not. I--that's why I had to let you go. That's one thing I've learned is that, uh, you can't argue with love. And I want to take that a step further, though, because you and I have been through a lot, and, well, it gets kind of dicey here because we know that the connection between love and happiness-- it doesn't guarantee it. I mean, after we broke up, I was in love, and it was more unhappiness than not. Does that sound familiar?
Nick: And I wasn't smoking my little black cigars. I was heating wings.
Katie: Whatever you say.
Nick: Good wings.
Katie: (Sighs) I just got off the phone with my mom. She told me something kind of interesting.
Nick: Gossip from mothers. I know it well.
Katie: Apparently, Rick moved in with Brooke, and Ridge moved out. I guess he wasn't too happy about it.
Nick: I don't think I've ever seen that man happy.
Katie: Well, I'm sure it's only temporary.
Nick: I'm sure he didn't leave without a fight.
Katie: Well, he and Rick don't really get along all that well.
Nick: Who over the age of 10 does he get along with?
Katie: Still, I'm just saying if Rick is there and he's recuperating--
Nick: Honey, Brooke kicked him out. Forrester wouldn't leave on his own. Trust me.
Katie: Temporarily, I'm sure.
Nick: Temporarily. Well, maybe it's good for her. Maybe it's exactly what she needs. She won't have that bellowing whispering in her ears telling her exactly what's good for her.
Katie: And you think it's good for her to be single?
Nick: Well, she's avoided marrying this guy up till now.
Katie: I don't know that she's really avoiding him.
Nick: Well, neither does she. That's the thing about your sister. It's like she's got some sort of guardian angel over her life watching her, especially when it comes to Forrester. She thinks she's supposed to live happily ever after with this guy, and somebody or something comes along at the end and saves her bacon.
Katie: For what? What do you think she's being saved for?
Nick: For--for her kids? For herself? To be saved from this cuckoo drama that always happens with Forrester. I don't know. Why are we talking about Brooke?
Katie: Oh, I don't know. You were just saying that you were happy that she and Ridge might have broken up.
Nick: It's not our business. Our business is jack. And we're gonna be very good at our business.
Katie: Oh, yeah.
Nick: Okay? Can we do some business?
Katie: Mmm, tastes like chicken.
Nick: Really? It's hot wings. You're like a hot wing.
Katie: Mm.
Brooke: How was your lunch?
Rick: Oh, it was so good, Mom. (Moans)
Brooke: So I haven't lost my grilled ham and cheese touch?
Rick: You have not lost a thing. You are still the grilled ham and cheese champion. Thank you for everything you've done for me.
Brooke: There's somebody else you need to thank.
Rick: Bridget. Yes. I gotta call her. I haven't talked to her--
Brooke: No. I was talking about Ridge. This is his house, too.
Rick: No, this is your house.
Brooke: Well, we're kind of joined together now. He could have said, "No, I'm staying."
Rick: And then I could have said, "No, I'm going."
Brooke: No, because I want you here. This isn't a contest about who Mom loves more. You used to bait me into that. But I think we're a little bit more grown up. Ridge and I are raising children together, and I just don't want to make the same mistakes with Hope and R.J. As I made with you and Bridget.
Rick: I think you better go.
Brooke: Look, Rick, I am not asking you to care for him or accept him or anything like that. I just want you to take the time that you need to get well. But just know that once you're well, Ridge will move back in here, and we will begin our life together. We will become husband and wife.
Taylor: I was always so afraid. Remember that?
Ridge: I don't remember you being afraid of much at all.
Taylor: No, not ordinary things, like a stingray or jellyfish or iced tea in a foreign country.
Ridge: You remember that?
Taylor: Mm-hmm.
Ridge: Your mom and I had a massive argument in Saint Thomas about whether it was safe to drink the iced tea.
Steffy: Oh, God. You guys sound like the worst kind of tourists.
Taylor: No, I wasn't afraid of e. coli or--or jellyfish, but I was-- I was afraid of Brooke, because I knew she was always waiting in the wings somewhere, and I knew that there was some kind of love between the two of you, and that did scare the hell out of me. Because I knew... (sighs) the power loving you had over me. But I'm a little different now. I'm a lot different. I think I've understood that I'm--I'm not afraid of love. I'm not afraid anymore. I-I don't know. Even the fact that I know you love Brooke, and you have for a long time, and you probably still do, it doesn't upset me. I-I would have been crushed by that a long time ago, but I think I'm a different person. In fact, um, I'm not afraid to fight back. And I'm pretty sure that I can be a lot sexier than Brooke ever thought of being. And I don't think I'm afraid to prove that.
Thomas: That's great. Um, while you're doing that...
Steffy: (Clears throat)
Thomas: Steffy and I are gonna play some tennis.
Steffy: Wait. What? What? Tennis?
Thomas: Oh, I've been playing three times a week. How does total humiliation sound?
Steffy: Oh, like you ever beat me, buddy?
Taylor: Okay, how about doubles, old team?
Thomas: Oh, you and me against Dad and Steffy?
Steffy: Oh, you're goin' down, buddy. Just wait.
Thomas: Hey. Hey. Dad's serve is no match for my backhand.
Ridge: Excuse me? Since when?
Thomas: Since you got ancient.
Ridge: Oh...
Taylor: Oh!
Ridge: Okay, kiddo. I just don't have the right clothes. That's all.
Stephanie: Oh, puh-lease. I know you keep tennis clothes in the trunk of your car.
Taylor: Well, I'll go get the rackets.
Steffy: Okay. I'll get the beer.
Taylor: Uh, excuse me. Excuse me. We're not in London. Little different drinking age here, okay? And besides, there's no booze in the house.
Steffy: Some things never change. Come on.
Taylor: Come on. Go.
Katie: (Sighs) I love you.
Nick: (Sighs)
Katie: But I seriously think there's something wrong with my brain.
Nick: (Sighs) Well, that's sort of normal, isn't it?
Katie: (Chuckles) I just can't stop worrying about the future.
Nick: Why are you worrying about the future? We've got enough going on now.
Katie: I just--I'm worried that things are gonna change. I want every day to be like this-- just you and me and Jack and...
Nick: Sex on the floor?
Katie: Yeah. Yeah, sex on the floor. (Laughs)
Nick: Right. Right.
Katie: I mean, I'm sure somebody will have to come in eventually and vacuum or something. But you know what I mean?
Nick: (Laughs) I do. One thing I can guarantee you is it's not gonna stay the same. Things are gonna change.
Katie: How?
Nick: Well, if I knew that, I'd probably have more money in the market.
Katie: (Chuckles)
Nick: But for now, would you just be exactly the way you are and let me love you exactly the way that I do? Can you do that?
Katie: Mmm. Mm-hmm.
Nick: You promise?
Katie: Yeah.
Nick: Okay. Thank you.
Katie: (Chuckles)
Stephanie: Well, this is a pleasant way to spend the day, isn't it?
Ridge: Don't you be looking at me like that.
Stephanie: Well, I have nothing really to say. Just, you know--
Ridge: Mother, I have no idea where all this is going.
Stephanie: Nobody does, honey. Just, you know, go with your feelings. If it feels good, how can it be wrong?
Ridge: I'm gonna go change in the den.
Stephanie: Okay.
(Cell phone buzzes)
Stephanie: Wait a minute!
Stephanie: Uh, never mind.
Brooke: Hey, where are you? I tried the office, and there's no answer. So if you're still looking for a hotel, why don't you let me put Madison on it? And I talked to Rick. He's asleep right now, but he knows that we gave into him, even though he was being unfair, but because he needed me and because you are the most loving, generous, wonderful person in the world. So I just wanted to thank you for today. You leave me no choice but to love you forever. I love you, my sweet. Ciao.
Stephanie: Uh, you certainly got his attention.
Taylor: That's because I'm right.
Stephanie: You are.
Taylor: And what I want is right.
Stephanie: You don't have to convince me.
Taylor: Don't you have something to go do?
Stephanie: (Laughs) Yes, I can. And just a word of caution. She may have kicked him out of the house, but she'll be on red alert when she finds out you're sniffing around.
Taylor: Oh, you don't have to tell me how Brooke operates.
Ridge: Okay, where are the rug rats? Excuse me, former rug rats.
Thomas: Why is my room all full of Steffy's stuff?
Steffy: He's exaggerating.
Thomas: Uh, no, not really. It looks like there was a visit from the decorating fairy. All right?
Steffy: Mom!
Taylor: (Chuckles)
Steffy: (Sighs) Okay. Thomas...
Thomas: Mm-hmm.
Steffy: You know how Phoebe's hair takes up about, I don't know, three times as much room as she does?
Thomas: Yeah, look who's talkin'.
Steffy: Oh, well, so does her stuff. So I moved into your room until she gets rid of her clothes and her makeup and her shoes from my side of our room.
Ridge: She's really not angry, she's just--
Taylor: No, I know. I-I'm not upset. I'm just happy. I don't think I can remember when I've been this happy.
Thomas: All right. Come on, let's go.
Taylor: Please say it isn't just me. .
