Rick: Good morning, sleepyhead. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Taylor: (Sighs)
Rick: (Laughs) Hi. That must have been some dream you had.
Taylor: Mm. Why do you say that?
Rick: Oh, because you had the most beautiful smile on your face when I woke up this morning.
Taylor: (Laughs) (Sniffles) What time did you get in last night?
Rick: Late.
Taylor: Mm.
Rick: Very late, actually. I mean, I got in. You were zonked out.
Taylor: I'm sorry. I-- (Sighs)
Rick: No, no. Don't even worry about it.
Taylor: I was so exhausted.
Rick: Now listen to me. Nights are overrated, especially when I can have mornings like this and waking up to the most beautiful fiancée in the world.
(Birds chirping)
Ridge: (Sighs)
Brooke: (Inhales deeply) (Sighs) Mmm.
Brooke: Mmm. Good morning.
Ridge: Right back at ya. (Sighs)
Brooke: Mmm. You know, it's times like these that I can understand why Taylor feels the way she does about you.
Ridge: I had no idea.
Brooke: Last night you said she was humiliated.
Ridge: I tried to get her to not feel that way, but... (Sighs)
Brooke: How did she respond?
Ridge: She got kind of emotional.
Brooke: But she didn't deny it, right, what she said? How she still loves you? You're the love of her life?
Ridge: No, she didn't deny it at all, but I think she's still gonna marry Rick.
Brooke: (Sighs) It's just not fair. I mean, he's her second choice. It's wrong. Rick deserves so much better.
Ridge: It's obvious you didn't really get through to Rick either.
Brooke: I tried. I told him he should talk to Taylor. I just hope he does.
Ridge: Hmm. I feel for Taylor. I really do. Uh, everything she's been through. (Sighs) today could be especially difficult.
Brooke: Speaking of today... (Sighs) what do you think about having Jack's birthday here instead of over at Nick's?
Ridge: Because of Katie?
Brooke: Well, she did lose her child. It's got to be really difficult for her celebrating Jack's first birthday.
Ridge: Hey, sounds like a good idea to me. I wasn't really looking forward to hanging out at Nick's place anyway.
Brooke: All right. I'll clear it with Nick.
Katie: Okay. (Cell phone rings) (rings) (rings)
Nick: Hello, Brooke.
Brooke: Hi. Say, how would you feel about having Jack's party at our house instead of yours?
Nick: Can't.
Brooke: Why not?
Nick: Uh, because Katie is into this, and the whole house is decorated.
Brooke: Don't you think that'd be a little rough on her?
Nick: Uh, actually, the opposite. It seems to be bringing her a bit of comfort. I do appreciate the thought, but the party has to be here, so I guess I'll be seeing you in a little while, yes?
Brooke: Yeah. Sure. I'll see you soon. (Laughs) well...
Ridge: Yeah?
Brooke: Nick says that they're gonna have the party there. Katie's already decorated the house.
Ridge: Are you sure that's good for Katie?
Brooke: He said that she was really excited, so I guess we'll just have it at our place next year. And we'll make the best of it, right?
Ridge: Yeah. Look, I'm all about giving that little boy the best life we can, okay? I just want to do it as far away from Nick as possible. (Sighs)
Nick: Well, the place looks great.
Katie: Feels like a party, huh?
Nick: Yeah.
Katie: (Laughs)
Nick: How are you holding up?
Katie: Good.
Nick: Yeah?
Katie: Yeah.
Nick: Mm-hmm.
Katie: I'm having fun. Who was that on the phone?
Nick: Funny you should ask. That was Brooke, and she wanted to have the party at her place.
Katie: Oh, after all this? I don't think so.
Nick: And she's just concerned.
Katie: I hope you told her that this is therapeutic, because it is. Really, I mean it.
Nick: I know.
Katie: (Sighs) I'm just so grateful that we have Jack. I don't think I would have been able to get through this without him.
Nick: Yeah. You really love that little boy, don't you?
Katie: Yeah, I do. Just like a son. Mmm.
Katie: Oh, my gosh! It's an art set. Wow.
Jackie: Well, it is a little advanced for him.
Katie: Look at all that stuff!
Jackie: I do know that, but after all, he is a Marone.
Katie: That's very true. Thank you, Grandma. Shall we go into the kitchen and see if we can spread all this stuff out and make a mess? You want to try? Let's go see. All right. (Groans)
Nick: Make sure to make a mess. It's no fun without a mess.
Katie: Let's make a mess. Yay. (Laughs)
Jackie: Oh, my. (Sighs) what a precious child. We are so blessed to have him in our lives.
Nick: Yes, we are.
Jackie: (Laughs) And Katie, I mean, my word. She seems to be doing so well.
Nick: Jack's the reason for that. She loves being around that baby.
Jackie: How do Brooke and Ridge feel about it?
Nick: How do you think?
Jackie: (Sighs) Let me guess. Brooke is sensitive to her sister, and Ridge resents you, as usual.
Nick: That's an understatement.
Jackie: You know, I'm really surprised he allowed you to have Jack's birthday party here at the house.
Nick: Mother, I'm not gonna let him tell me what I can and can't do with my son. He's lucky he even got an invitation.
Ridge: Okay, take your time. I'll be here. I'll see you in a bit.
Brooke: Who was that?
Ridge: Mother.
Brooke: "Take your time. I'll be here"?
Ridge: Dad wants to see the quarterly, so she's coming by to pick them up.
Brooke: Oh. So I guess I'm going to the party by myself.
Ridge: I'll be there soon enough.
Brooke: (Sighs) I'm sure you'd rather not even go.
Ridge: Look, the guy gives me the willies, okay?
Brooke: He's a co-parent, and we all have to get along.
Ridge: (Groans)
Brooke: Mmm.
Ridge: For Jack's sake, okay, as long as Marone keeps his distance from you.
Brooke: (Laughs) Don't be too long.
Ridge: Okay.
Rick: Oh, this day is starting out so much better than yesterday ended. (Sighs)
Taylor: Why? What happened?
Rick: Oh, I went to see my mom. You would not believe what she was saying about you and Ridge.
Taylor: What did she say?
Rick: She told me that you told her that Ridge was the love of your life. I mean... (laughs)
Taylor: Well, um, actually, I did say that.
Rick: What?
Taylor: Honey, it has nothing to do with you and me.
Rick: I did-- why would you say something like that?
Taylor: I have never had anything so special with someone like this. I-I feel like we have so much intimacy, and I-I feel so safe and...
Rick: (Sighs)
Taylor: Secure with you, and--and you're so handsome, and you're so sexy.
Rick: Oh, no. No, no, no.
Taylor: But what-- what you were saying is true. Ridge and I do have a past together. We've have children. We've had a family. We share--we've shared a lot. And--and someday you and I will share just as much.
Rick: And then what? Then I will be the love of your life?
Taylor: (Sighs)
Ridge: The numbers aren't great, but I'm sure Dad can use that as motivation. How's he doing, by the way?
Stephanie: Oh, he's still upset about the breakup with donna.
Ridge: He'll get over it.
Stephanie: Of course he will. He's got me. But I have to admit, I'm--I'm vexed, very vexed as to why she suddenly threw in the towel.
Ridge: I'm just glad she's gone.
Stephanie: Me, too. After all, he's the love of my life. What?
Ridge: Taylor said the same thing about me.
Stephanie: When?
Ridge: Yesterday. First to Brooke and then to me.
Stephanie: Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I mean, you had a wonderful marriage, wonderful children... (Sighs) and her life has gone straight to hell since you left her.
Ridge: Mother, she still intends to marry Rick.
Stephanie: Hmm. And what if you were available?
Taylor: Rick, please say something.
Rick: What do you want me to say?
Taylor: What I shared with Ridge in no way diminishes what I have with you.
Rick: (Sighs) I'm not questioning your love for me, Taylor. I'm just finding it difficult to ignore what you said about Ridge.
Taylor: Ridge is my past. People move on.
Rick: And have you done that?
Taylor: Yes. Yes, I have. Of course I have. But it's not like I can say that--that I've forgotten Ridge any more than you can say you've forgotten Amber. I mean... (Sighs)
Rick: Wow.
Taylor: Okay, okay. Wait. Where-- where are you going?
Rick: To the office. I have a conference call with the European department heads. What are you doing?
Taylor: Um, I'm just going to, uh, Jack's birthday party today.
Rick: We talked about this. That's not a good idea if you go there.
Taylor: I just want to go and acknowledge my son's first birthday, that's all.
Rick: Taylor, this could be a major setback for you.
Taylor: No. No.
Rick: Again, we talked about this.
Taylor: It won't be. I promise.
Rick: Fine. Fine. But, uh, remember, you have to meet me at Il Giardino because we have to make final decisions about the wedding.
Taylor: Oh, yeah. Okay.
Rick: Okay.
Taylor: I can't wait. Sweetheart, listen. I don't--I don't want you to doubt my love for you at all. That part of my life with Ridge, it's--it's over. It's in my past. My future is with you.
Rick: Have a good day.
Brooke: I missed you so much last night, you know that? I'm gonna give you a kiss for every month of your first year.
Jack: (Babbles)
Brooke: Every month for the first year.
Katie: Okay. All right. It's time to get dressed, get ready for your party.
Brooke: Oh, I can do that.
Katie: Oh, no, no, no. I've got everything laid out upstairs. Come here. Oh, my goodness. So big. All right.
Jackie: I would like to help you.
Katie: Oh, that's okay. I can handle it.
Jackie: Well, I know you can handle it. But Grandma would like to help.
Katie: Okay. Follow me. Yes, let's go get dressed.
Nick: So the dressmaker bailed.
Brooke: No, he'll be here. (Sighs) And you better be nice.
Nick: Well, that's me. Mr. Nice.
Brooke: You know, this isn't very easy for him. It's not very easy for me either.
Nick: You're still upset, aren't you, about what happened with me and Bridget? You have every right to feel the way you feel.
Brooke: (Sighs) We're not gonna do this on Jack's birthday.
Nick: Well, who would have imagined a year ago we'd be sharing our son's first birthday like this? (Chuckles) It's pretty amazing. So what's say we work real hard at letting the past be the past? Mistakes we made-- put them behind us?
Brooke: I hope we can.
Ridge: There's hope for Taylor, Mother. She's taken steps to bring some order back into her life.
Stephanie: What steps?
Ridge: Jack, for example. She's agreed to let Brooke raise him.
Stephanie: What?
Ridge: Yeah. Took a lot of soul searching, but she finally realized that Jack would be much better off if Brooke was his mother.
Stephanie: So you and Brooke aren't getting married?
Ridge: Oh, I didn't say that! We're actually gonna be a family. All five of us.
Stephanie: You mean you've agreed to raising Nick's child?
Ridge: Brooke wants to do this. She wants to do it a lot.
Stephanie: (Chuckles) What a wonderful little photograph-- the three of you. Do I really have to tell you that something like this isn't going to work?
Ridge: Yes, raising Jack will have its challenges. We made it legal precisely for that reason.
Stephanie: How could you even think that you could trust this bum after what he's done to Bridget? Why don't you just let Nick and Brooke raise that baby?
Ridge: Oh, what are you suggesting? That I break up with Brooke?
Stephanie: Well, sometimes things happen for a good reason. Wouldn't you prefer to be with Taylor?
(Telephone rings)
Ridge: Hey, Logan.
Brooke: Ridge, what's keeping you?
Ridge: I'm just finishing up with Mother here. I'll see you soon.
Nick: Brooke, it's your turn. Our son is getting impatient.
Brooke: Be right there. See you soon.
Ridge: Okay. Bye.
Stephanie: I am not bashing Brooke. I'm just saying that life with Taylor would be a lot less complicated, and you might just think about that.
Nick: Don't wake him up.
Brooke: Okay. There.
Nick: Good catch, jack.
Katie: There you go. You made it! (Laughs) Oh, my gosh. Is Taylor coming?
Jackie: It might be best if she doesn't.
Brooke: It might be too difficult for her.
Nick: She's gonna be here. It's Jack's first birthday.
Katie: I know what we need to do now. We need to take some pictures. I think it's picture time. Oof, my gosh. You're so big. (Laughs) can you get a picture of me and Jack?
Nick: Mm-hmm, yes. Come on. Make me look good here.
Katie: Oh, here we go.
Nick: Let's get a nice smile for your Aunt Katie. You ready?
Katie: Okay, smile. Smile for your daddy.
Nick: You ready? Ready? Here we go. One, two--oh! I caught you. Good.
Katie: There you go. Good.
Nick: Got another one in you? Here we go. That's it.
Taylor: I was just in the middle of finishing wrapping this birthday gift for Jack, so I don't have much time.
Stephanie: I understand you're gonna let Brooke raise the baby.
Taylor: Well, you know what I was going through, Stephanie. It was very difficult for me to make that decision, but I did it for Jack.
Stephanie: I realize, but this creates quite a problem for Ridge.
Taylor: I know he and Nick don't really see eye to eye, but they're gonna have to find a way to co-parent.
Stephanie: But it's not just that, you know? It--it puts Nick and Brooke in close proximity, and, you know, well, suppose that, uh, little spark reignites between the two of them.
Taylor: Stephanie. (Clears throat)
Stephanie: You still have feelings for Ridge. You've already admitted it.
Taylor: He's committed to Brooke.
Stephanie: But that's almost an impossible situation now with Nick in the picture. Think about it. Think about it. You and Ridge-- you know, you could be back together.
Taylor: Stephanie.
Stephanie: (Chuckles) This may be the last chance that you have to put your family back together again, Taylor. I don't think you should pass up this opportunity.
Nick: Right there. That's it.
Brooke: Oh.
Nick: Did you get it?
Brooke: Oh, I was moving.
Jackie: No, I'd like one with Jack looking at the camera. Darling, get nice and close...
Brooke: Look. Look.
Jackie: And, Jack, look at Grandma.
Brooke: Look at Grandma. See?
Jackie: Nicky, can you get him to look at the camera, sweetheart? Are you serious? That's a terrible face.
Nick: Mother, will you just take the picture?
Brooke: Here. I'll hold him.
Jackie: This isn't just a picture, darling. I'm trying to capture a family memory, one that Brooke and you will remember forever. Now please smile. Oh, sweet little family. Got it. That is so perfect.
Nick: Good boy.
Brooke: You got it?
Jackie: I did. One more.
Brooke: Okay.
Jackie: Get nice and snug.
Ridge: Logan, may I speak to you, please?
Nick: Hey, Forrester. Nice of you to show up.
Ridge: I'd just like to speak to Brooke alone, please.
Katie: I'll take Jack.
Nick: Uhh, why don't we grab those other sandwiches out of the kitchen, ladies?
Jackie: Good idea.
Brooke: Ridge, what is it? You seem upset.
Ridge: I am kind of upset, Brooke. I come in here, and what do I find, you know? Nick hanging all over you, and you seem to be enjoying it.
Brooke: (Scoffs) We were just taking a picture for Jack. It's his birthday.
Ridge: Okay, fine. Sing "Happy birthday." Blow out the candle. Cut the cake, and we're out of here.
Brooke: Honey, you're overreacting.
Ridge: Am I? I warned you about this, Brooke. Look, I-I-I am committed to making that little boy's life as secure and safe as possible. That means sharing him with Nick. I'm willing to do that. I am not willing to share you with Marone. I can't do that, Brooke. I won't.
