Eric: Donna, what is it? I can tell something's wrong. Talk to me! Look, it's confusing, I know. I-I know. And if you're confused, so was I. When I-- when I saw you-- when I saw you with Owen, I thought I would never feel this way about you again, but I miss you. I miss you so much. (Sighs) I'm sorry. I miss you.
Steffy: Hey, Mom.
Taylor: Hey. How's Marcus?
Steffy: Brought him some soup and tucked him in. Thanks for stopping by the hospital.
Taylor: Well, I know how important he is to you.
Steffy: Yeah, it meant a lot, everyone being there for him, being included in your wedding. That was major.
Taylor: No, I think it'll be great having the two of you standing up there with us. I mean, we're not as young as-- as you two, but it makes me feel young anyway, standing up there looking like I have my whole future to look forward to.
Steffy: So... (sighs) you really sure about this, Mom? You really think marrying Rick is the right thing to do?
Taylor: (Sighs)
Rick: Larry, how's it goin'?
Brooke: Yeah, I just wanted to check. I'll come by and pick you up first thing in the morning. Get some sleep. I love you, too. That was your grandma.
Rick: Oh, such a scary situation.
Brooke: (Sighs) If she didn't react as fast as she did, that car would have hit her head-on.
Rick: I know. Thank God she's gonna be okay.
Brooke: Marcus, too.
Rick: Yeah.
Brooke: Seems like you and Marcus are becoming good friends. You asked him to be your best man.
Rick: I did, yeah. Well, he doesn't judge my relationship with Taylor. He's happy for us. I really wish you could be, too.
Eric: Donna, look, I'm-- I'm ready to talk.
Donna: I-I-I can't. I-I can't right now. I-I'm watching the kids.
Eric: I'll--I'll help you. I'll help you put them to bed, and then--and then we can talk.
Donna: Oh, they're asleep.
Eric: Then that's perfect. That's perfect. Listen to me. Look, I'm so sorry that it took me so long to-- to come here to talk to you. But when I saw you-- I saw you and Owen together, and it just-- you crossed the line with him, and that's not gonna change. That's not gonna go away. But being here with you...
Donna: (Sighs)
Eric: Close to you like this, I-it reminds me of what we have, and it was so wonderful for us in the beginning. We might actually have another chance.
Donna: (Sobs)
Eric: Donna? Donna?
Donna: (Sobs)
Eric: Wait. You-- why are you crying? Look, I know this is hard. It's hard for me, too.
Donna: (Whimpers)
Eric: Come here. Come here. It's hard for me, too. But we can do this, you and I. If there's so-- if there's something going on, if there's something I don't know about-- is there something else?
Donna: Yes. Yes. There's something else going on.
Eric: Then tell me. Tell me what it is. You can tell me anything. Oh, my God-- you're--you're trembling. What's the matter? What is it? Donna, what's going on with you?
Eric: When I woke up out of my coma, it was as if time had never passed. But it did for you. I know. And you went on with your life, which is exactly what I would have wanted you to do. I understand that. But when I saw-- when I saw you with Owen, it blew me away. And I said things to you that I'm sorry about.
Donna: Look, I understand. I understand.
Eric: Okay, let's ge-- let's just get everything out on the table.
Donna: Eric, now is just-- it's--it's not really the time.
Eric: I can't wait.
Donna: Look, we'll do it tomorrow. We'll do it at the house or at the office.
Eric: No. I want to settle this now. Donna, I thought this is what you want. I thought this is what you would want. You--you--you came over. You asked for another chance. I don't want to give up on us.
Donna: Well, it's too late. I'm sorry. Everything-- everything's changed.
Eric: Changed? What do you mean?
Donna: Sometimes things happen in life that-- that turn your life upside down. I hate to say this, but it's-- it's happened to us.
Taylor: You're questioning my decision to marry Rick?
Steffy: Haven't you?
Taylor: Well, that's something that Rick and I should be discussing, and we've already talked about that at length.
Steffy: You can't plan for everything, Mom. Look at you and Dad-- all the stuff you had to face. Yeah, you got through a lot of it. God, things that would have crushed any other couple. But as strong as you guys were, you still couldn't hold it together.
Taylor: Okay, all right. I hear it. I hear the message. So because your dad and I couldn't stay together, Rick and I don't have a chance. Is that it?
Steffy: No. No. You and Dad had kids together. We were a family. You and Rick are just--
Taylor: Well, we don't have that bond even.
Steffy: Look, Mom, I'm-- I'm sorry. Never mind. Just forget it. Honestly, what do I know about marriages, right?
Taylor: No, your-- your concerns are valid. I want you to come to me with them.
Steffy: Maybe... (sighs) maybe I'm just being selfish. I just never stopped hoping you and Dad would get back together.
Taylor: I know. Sweetie, that is not unusual. For years, children still dream about their parents getting back together. Look at how the whole family still wants to see Eric and Stephanie get back together.
Steffy: What about you, Mom? It's never crossed your mind somewhere deep down inside? Don't you want to be with Dad again?
Rick: I'm not trying to put any pressure on you. I'm--I'm not trying to make you feel bad, okay? It's just that this is-- this is a very important time, a very special time in my life right now, and I want you to be a part of it. I want you to share it with me. So what is it? I'm--is it your history with Taylor? Taylor's been able to put that behind her and-- and--and give you jack. Why can't you put it behind you and--and just come to my wedding?
Brooke: I know that Taylor is very significant to you, and I'm trying to accept that.
Rick: You need to try harder. I'm sorry, but look at Nick and Ridge, okay? I mean, they've been able to put their animosity aside. I mean, if they can do it, anybody can.
Brooke: (Sighs) That is a completely different situation.
Rick: No, this is an opportunity, Mom. This is a chance for people to put their petty differences aside, to put their hang-ups aside.
Brooke: My concern for you is not a hang-up.
Rick: Then what is your concern? I don't understand it. Taylor and I have been through a lot, right-- this--this--this most recent situation with Jack, and we got through that. We dealt with that together.
Brooke: Yes, and you helped her. You convinced her to do the right thing for Jack, and I will be extremely grateful forever for that. But I just wish she would show the same kind of judgment about you.
Rick: Wha--what is that supposed to mean? Like, she's-- she's gonna break up with me? She should break up with me? Wha--
Brooke: Just to let you go. Just like she did with Jack so that he could be happy and have the life that he deserves.
Rick: (Sighs) Taylor is the life that I want.
Brooke: Heading up Forrester International is a huge job. It's gonna take you away from home. You're gonna be in Europe weeks on end--
Rick: Oh, God, I'm not gonna listen to this.
Brooke: And Taylor works here with her job. You're gonna be apart a lot. And what about children? I know how much you want to be a father.
Rick: (Sighs)
Brooke: And I'm just not sure that Taylor is gonna want to go through that all over again. I mean, there's just some big hurdles here, some huge obstacles that you have to overcome to make this a fulfilling marriage.
Rick: Are you kidding me with this? Wh--wh--what do you take me for, Mom? I-I know that there are gonna be challenges in--in a marriage, okay? It takes work. Good marriages take work.
Brooke: Not that much.
Rick: (Scoffs) Are you finished? I mean, don't you have somewhere to be, like with Ridge?
Brooke: (Sighs) I wish you'd be serious about this. There are issues, Rick. These are substantial issues that I'm not sure either you or Taylor have dealt with.
Rick: What? I know that, Mom. Okay, look, I believe in a marriage that if two people love each other, no matter what, they can always overcome it. Taylor is the woman for me. I'm sure of that.
Brooke: (Sighs) So what do you want from me?
Rick: I want you to go over to Taylor's house, and I want you to tell her that you accept our relationship, that you are going to support this marriage and that you are happy for us. Now if you can't do that, then I'm sorry. I-I just-- I don't want you at my wedding.
Eric: So your feelings for me have changed?
Donna: No, I-I didn't say that.
Eric: Well, then what are you saying? Do you think I should have reacted differently when I caught you in bed with another man? I was devastated.
Donna: I-I'm sorry.
Eric: Look, I needed-- I needed time, and now I've had time. And I'm ready to talk. I'm ready to let the healing begin.
Donna: I'm not ready.
Eric: Look, we both made mistakes.
Donna: Look, I can't make another mistake. Look, I have seen the future, and believe me when I say if we stay together, it will be tragic. And--and I won't-- I won't let that happen. That's why I have to end it right here right now.
Rick: It's time. I'm tired, and I'm done trying to convince people that my--my marriage to Taylor is a good thing, because it is. We have nothing else to prove to anyone.
Brooke: You got involved with her during a major crises in her life, and you helped her through that. And this whole situation with Jack-- I mean, you've definitely been her hero. But what happens in the future when there's no more problems, when there's no more impossible mountains to climb?
Rick: Are you okay? What is the matter with you? You--you start off by saying that you're concerned that there are gonna be too many issues with Taylor and me, and--and now you're saying that there are not gonna be enough issues? What? I'm done here.
Brooke: (Sighs) Rick--
Rick: No, I have my answer. I'm sorry.
Brooke: Honey, I just want you to be happy.
Rick: I know you do.
Brooke: That's all. And I know that you've made a huge impact on Taylor's life. I won't deny that. I-I just am not sure that this is--
Rick: Well, I am sure. We're gonna get married. And we are gonna be surrounded by people that love us and support us, and it is a shame that you will not be there.
Brooke: Rick--
Rick: No. No, don't come. If this is how you feel, I don't want you there.
Taylor: Honey, your father is getting married to Brooke.
Steffy: Mom, I didn't ask if it could happen, just if you ever think about it-- getting back together with Dad.
Taylor: I will always feel a lot of affection for your father, of course.
Steffy: Mm-hmm. You love him.
Taylor: Sweetie, we had three beautiful children together, and we have a lot of wonderful memories.
Steffy: Don't you miss Dad? All of us together as a family?
Taylor: Of course. I-I miss those times. Yes, of course. But things would be the same anyway, even if we were all together. It would be exactly like it is now. We all love each other.
Steffy: Mm. But when Dad walked out on you, you were crushed.
Taylor: Yes.
Steffy: He was the love of your life, Mom. That's when things started going wrong for you.
Taylor: I know. But then everything got better. And then when Rick started supporting me, things got even better. So...
Steffy: Yeah, Rick's a really good guy.
Taylor: He's been there for me in ways that no one else ever has. I don't know if you understand that.
Steffy: Even Dad?
Taylor: Your dad and I had a very complicated relationship. I-it was, um, beautiful. It was very affectionate and very passionate. But then things got very complicated. I can't explain that. But with Rick, everything was just simpler. There's nothing from the past. It was--everything has been so easy for me, and he makes me his priority. And--and that makes me feel really great, like I'm--I'm the center of his universe. It's-- everything is gonna be okay, okay? I don't want you to worry. Don't be concerned.
Brooke: Taylor? Taylor! Oh, I saw Steffy outside. She said it was okay to come in.
Taylor: What's-- what's going on? Is--is Jack okay?
Brooke: Yes, he's fine. This is about your wedding.
Taylor: Did you have a change of heart? I-I didn't think so.
Brooke: This isn't about you or me or our history. This is about Rick.
Taylor: Okay, then maybe you should be talking to him.
Brooke: I have. You know what it's like to talk to your grown children and convince them that you're only looking out for their best interests. I mean, any advice seems like meddling.
Taylor: Then again, that's because sometimes it is meddling.
Brooke: But you and I know the difference. We're mothers, and mothers know what our children need to feel fulfilled and secure. And sometimes that means sacrifice. And you should know that better than anybody. A little pain in the short term to avoid a lot of heartache in the long run.
Taylor: I don't plan on hurting Rick. I love him.
Brooke: You loved Jack, too, and you gave him up.
Taylor: So then are you saying that it should follow that I do the same thing with Rick?
Brooke: Yes.
Taylor: How dare you?
Brooke: No, no, Taylor, I'm--I'm not here to confront you. Really, I-I just want you to know that I would do anything-- anything to save Rick from this marriage.
Taylor: (Scoffs)
Eric: When you came to see me, you said you wanted a-a second chance.
Donna: And you said you needed more time.
Eric: And I have taken more time, and now I'm ready. Look, whatever this is about, we can get past it, you know? When we got married, we said that we weren't gonna let anything or anybody come between us.
Donna: Yes, but somebody has.
Eric: Owen?
Donna: It's--it's-- it's complicated.
Eric: Are you in love with him?
Donna: Y-you're better off without me.
Eric: No. No.
Donna: Trust me. Trust me! You are.
Eric: What are you saying?
Donna: I-- I will always love-- love you. But sometimes when you love someone, you--you have to set them free.
Eric: Why?
Donna: Look, I-I'm committed to this, Eric.
Eric: This doesn't make any sense. I don't understand.
Donna: You're better off.
Eric: No, I'm not. This makes no sense. You've got to tell me what this is about.
Donna: Look, I'm not-- I'm not changing-- I'm not changing my mind. Just--just go. Just go.
Eric: No. No. Not until I understand what this is all about. You can tell me. Oh, donna, I want to give us another chance, and you're telling me you're in love with this other man? Look, this marriage is the best thing that ever happened to me. And it's the best thing that ever happened to you, too. We've gotta get it back. We're gonna give it another chance. I'm not gonna let you throw it away.
Donna: (Gasps)
Eric: I won't let you.
