Brooke: You want me to be a mother to Jack? Is that what you're asking me, Taylor?

Taylor: I'm... Jack's mother.

Hope: It goes right here.

Taylor: I just... want him to be happy.

Jack: (Cooing)

Taylor: He deserves to be happy.

Bridget: Thanks.

Owen: Thank you, sir.

Owen: What in the hell?!

Bridget: My father's wife... in his house! Men... (slams glass down) you're all the same.

Stephanie: How's your father?

Ridge: He's resting.

Stephanie: Good, because he tossed and turned all night.

Ridge: You stayed with him?

Stephanie: Yeah, I stayed in there, especially after that stunt that Donna pulled, sneaking in, and then the upset with Brooke...

Ridge: Well, Brooke had nothing to do with Donna's ambush.

Stephanie: Excuse me. She asked him to consider what happened and let Donna explain, didn't she?

Ridge: Look, why would she do that if she knew Donna was gonna sneak back in?

Stephanie: I don't know. Maybe greasing the wheels. Hopefully, it won't matter.

Ridge: It won't matter? It's kind of hard to talk your way out of being caught with another man, isn't it?

Stephanie: Impossible.

Ridge: Do you think she's gonna show up again?

Stephanie: For her sake, I hope she doesn't.

Ridge: Well, just go easy, okay, for Dad's sake?

Stephanie: And yours?

Ridge: No. Brooke and I agreed we're not gonna let any of this affect our relationship. This is between Dad and Donna.

Stephanie: Well... (sighs) that's over, I think.

Ridge: Dad's made up his mind. Now everybody can move on. That's exactly what we're gonna do. In fact, Brooke and I are planning our wedding as we speak. We want you and Dad to be there together.

Taylor: I am Jack's mother. I love Jack.

Rick: I know you do. I know. And you would do anything to see him happy. Maybe it-- it won't make a difference, but it could. And, Mom, you're-- you're Jack's mother, too. You have a biological connection with him.

Taylor: That doesn't automatically make her the better parent.

Rick: (Sighs) Taylor, please, this is not about who is the better mother, okay? This is about Jack and what's best for him. It's no secret that you've been struggling with him lately.

Brooke: If you need a break, Taylor, I'm sure that Nick would be--

Taylor: I don't need a break. I want what is best for Jack.

Rick: (Sighs)

Taylor: I want what he deserves, and he's not getting that from me.

Hope: Here you go, Jack.

Taylor: I've been trying so hard.

Taylor: (Sniffles) (Sighs)

Brooke: I know how you feel about me and my involvement with Jack. And for you to even be considering this, I-- for the sake of your child... (sighs) I'm shocked. But I'm also very impressed.

Bridget: Excuse me. I'm eating.

Owen: Well, don't let me stop you.

Bridget: I just lost my appetite.

Owen: Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but I fell in love with Donna.

Bridget: What do you know about love?

Owen: I know that she doesn't feel the same way about me. She's completely devoted to your father.

Bridget: Well, thanks to you, she no longer has her marriage.

Owen: If it wasn't for me, she might not still be alive, and your father either.

Bridget: (Laughs) So what do you want, me to thank you?

Owen: I want you to understand.

Bridget: (Laughs) I-I keep hearing that from men. They want me to under-- what am I supposed to be understanding exactly?

Owen: I'm sorry?

Bridget: That, too. That, too. "I'm sorry" and "understand." Yeah, I--the-- I--those two words.

Owen: All right, look, you know, I can tell that you're obviously going through something here.

Bridget: Hmm.

Owen: So I didn't come over here to be a jerk.

Bridget: No, of course not. Not you. No. I bet you're just like my husband-- always there to save the day, sympathetic and charming and so sweet-- and I get sucked right back in. So just go ahead and go. Leave me alone.

Owen: And let everyone in this restaurant think that I said something to make you angry? No way.

Hope: This-- what is that there?

Brooke: Hope and R.J., you've got to share all these toys with Jack. He's smaller than you are, so you can't just take things out of his hand, right?

Hope: Yeah.

Brooke: (Giggles) That's funny.

Rick: (Sighs)

Brooke: (Laughs)

Rick: Don't worry. This doesn't have to be forever. We'll just see how it goes, okay?

Taylor: (Laughs) He looks so happy.

Rick: (Chuckles) He is having a lot of fun with the kids.

Brooke: Oh. (Laughs) what was that? Did you?

Hope: He did.

Brooke: I heard that.

Taylor: He isn't like this with me.

Brooke: (Laughs) That's funny.

Taylor: Look at him. He's so content. He's so relaxed, and he's laughing.

Brooke: (Gasps) ooh. That's part of the head of the girl, right?

Taylor: (Sighs) When I was going through the custody battle, I--

Brooke: Jack!

Taylor: I would imagine us like that. I'd picture us at home...

Brooke: (Laughs) Oh.

Taylor: Laughing and playing. And then when I got to bring him home, I thought the hard part was over.

R.J.: That one.

Brooke: Yeah. What's that?

Taylor: I thought we'd form an attachment, and everything would be great, and--

Brooke: (Gasps) Ooh. That's part of a kitchen.

Hope: Oh, I know what it is.

Brooke: I know. It goes to that.

Taylor: It just never happened.

Brooke: Help me put it on top. Let me go see. Let's go see what this is. Oh, there's so many goodies here. This is so fun.

Hope: It goes on top of here.

Brooke: (Laughs) Oh, are you gonna eat that?

Hope: Don't eat that.

Brooke: You can't eat that, you silly.

Taylor: This is the way it's supposed to be.

Brooke: No, that goes on top of the saucer.

Taylor: That's-- that's what I want for him.

Brooke: Put it on the cup. See? (Gasps) ta-da!

Taylor: Why can't he be that way with me?

Brooke: Ta-da! Do you like that? Take it off.

Hope: Look, Jack, it's a little fishy.

Brooke: Okay. Look, mm, big fishy, big fishy for Jack. Hey, honey.

Bridget: You know what? You don't need to feel sorry for me. You don't even know me.

Owen: I know where you're coming from. You put your heart out on the line, only to have it stomped on.

Bridget: Wow. You really want me to believe that you and Donna had some great love story, huh?

Owen: Maybe it was just me. Maybe it was-- I don't know-- maybe it was all in my head. But isn't that where the best love stories happen, where everyone always says the right thing and they always end up happily ever after?

Bridget: That doesn't happen in real life.

Owen: Well, sometimes it does.

Bridget: (Inhales deeply) Not in my world.

Owen: But never?

Bridget: I really know how to pick 'em, let me tell you.

Owen: Maybe next time you should let somebody else pick you.

Bridget: Mm. No, I've tried that, too-- probably the worst one of the bunch.

Owen: Okay, so fine. You just--you're unlucky. That's not bad.

Bridget: Or cursed.

Owen: Or maybe that. (Chuckles)

Bridget: You think I'm joking. I'm--I'm serious. There is no prince charming behind door number three.

Owen: Okay, so fine, you're done with us?

Bridget: Yeah. I think I'm gonna be happier that way.

Owen: Okay. So you can hate men, I'll hate women, and the two of us will just sit here happily hating each other.

Stephanie: Nick did this to Bridget again? Oh, my God.

Ridge: The guy's a complete loser.

Stephanie: (Sighs) This is exactly what everybody thought might happen.

Ridge: Well, except Bridget. The guy had her completely snowed.

Stephanie: Yeah, but she knew Katie had feelings for him.

Ridge: Yes, that's true.

Stephanie: The thing that I am surprised about, really surprised, is, God, I would have never have thought that--that Katie would act on those feelings...

Ridge: Obviously Bridget didn't either.

Stephanie: Especially after everything she did to save her life.

Ridge: I'm putting this all on Nick. It's his M.O. completely-- taking advantage of a woman at her most vulnerable.

Stephanie: Bridget must just be devastated. Well, w-wait a minute. What's--what's gonna happen with the baby?

Ridge: He's got Taylor.

Stephanie: And Brooke.

Ridge: Oh, don't start with that now.

Nick: The man that you just called a loser? He's gonna be a permanent fixture in your life, honey. Don't kid yourself.

Ridge: No, Mother, he is not.

Stephanie: Ridge, Brooke stayed away from those two people and that baby out of respect for her daughter. Now if--if Bridget and Nick have separated, that means everything, everything has changed.

Brooke: Rick, could you take the kids outside for a while?

Rick: Oh, yeah, absolutely. Hope, R.J., follow me.

Hope: Okay.

Rick: I'm gonna show you a tree that Bridget and I used to climb.

Brooke: And, Jack...

Jack: (Coos)

Brooke: You can play by yourself for a little while, okay, while I talk to your mommy.

Taylor: He gets a little fussy when you first put him down, so...

Brooke: There you go.

Jack: (Grunts)

Brooke: I think he's fine.

Brooke: Hope and R.J. must have really worn him out. He's too tired to fuss.

Taylor: Yeah. When I was watching them play, it reminded me a lot of when, um, Thomas and the girls were little and I used to watch them play together.

Brooke: Hope and R.J. really adore him, and so do I. But you must know that. Otherwise, you wouldn't have considered... Taylor, if you're not sure...

Taylor: I don't know what else to do. I've tried everything.

Brooke: You're exhausted. I can see that.

Taylor: I am. I'm beyond exhausted. (Sighs) and it isn't just from the last few weeks. It's from the whole last year... (sighs) everything, everything I've been through with him. All I want to do is try to comfort him as his mother, and I-I guess I should have known that... (sighs) you were the one who gave him his bone marrow, that-- I should have known.

Brooke: You would have done the same thing.

Taylor: No, because I couldn't. He has your D.N.A. (Sighs) You saved his life.

Brooke: Taylor, you carried him for nine months. You gave him life. And everything you went through to get pregnant-- I mean, that's huge.

Taylor: I can't even get him to sleep. (Scoffs) I've tried everything. I-I've talked to experts. I've tried to fall back on my knowledge of psychiatry. I-I've looked at studies. I've asked for advice. I've tried to be more nurturing. I've tried everything. Nothing-- there's nothing that I can do. There's nothing that works.

Taylor: (Sighs) And I--and I can just see it when he's with you. I can see. There's a big difference. He-- he responds to you. He just gets lost in your eyes. He looks at you, and he's... (sighs) he's complete. And he-- he laughs, and he giggles, and he's-- he's happy. It's like he senses something. I-- I didn't-- I didn't have this problem when I was raising Thomas and the girls. Everything I've done, it hasn't-- it hasn't been enough for him. He needs something more, something I can't give him.

Taylor: (Sighs) As his mother, I have to put his needs above everything else.

Brooke: What are you saying, Taylor? What exactly are you trying to tell me?

Taylor: (Sighs)

Owen: So no more men.

Bridget: Well, I can't pick 'em, and the ones that pick me, I can't trust.

Owen: Are you sure about this?

Bridget: See, if you knew my history, you would never ask me that question.

Owen: Okay, so no more men coming on to you, no more cheesy pickup lines.

Bridget: Unh-unh. Unh-unh.

Owen: That's it. You're it. That's it.

Bridget: Nope. Finito.

Owen: Hmm. Okay.

Bridget: Hmm. Okay, then.

Owen: For some reason, I find that hard to believe, that a pretty girl like you would be done with love.

Ridge: Why are you bringing this up now?

Stephanie: I'm concerned. The whole dynamic has changed.

Ridge: But Brooke has chosen our life, our family. Her future is with me.

Stephanie: Yeah, well, that future is going to include the baby that she has with Nick.

Ridge: Taylor's not gonna allow that. She doesn't want that at all. Mother, relax. Everything's gonna be fine.

Stephanie: (Sighs)

Taylor: (Scoffs) I'm a better mother than that, and that's-- that's what's killing me. I-I can see the problem. I know exactly what it is. I just don't know how to fix it. I mean, you know, this is what I was trained in. I-I-I know-- I know what I'm supposed to do, and I'm--I'm trying to do it. I'm getting advice, and--and--and nothing matters. All of my years of experience, nothing matters.

Brooke: I don't understand.

Taylor: It's me. (Sighs) My son is unhappy because of me. I love him. He's my child. I love him with everything in me as much as I love my other children, but it's just-- it's not enough. I've--I've known that there's been something between us since-- since he was born. I've known that. It's my fear. It's my fear of you and the connection you have to him. And all this anxiety and this worry and this tension... (scoffs) the constant awareness that I'm--I'm raising my, uh, well, what did Rick say? "My--my rival's son." (Scoffs) (Sniffles) and I-I know he can feel it. I know he feels it in my body when I try to comfort him and I pick him up. I can--I can feel it. I-I know there's this tension that's in my body, and it--it's like I can't stop it. And then he starts to cry, and I-I want to comfort him, and I-I-I know what I'm supposed to do, but then I can't do it. And he--and he cries more, and I get more tense. Then he's pushing me away, and that upsets me even more. And I try to comfort him, and nothing happens. It just gets worse and worse. And this baby needs his mother, and I'm failing him over and over again. And... it's not right. (Voice breaks) I mean... (sniffles) (normal voice) the first years of a baby's life are so critical. You only get one chance to do it right, and I'm not. I'm not doing it right. (Sighs) It's like... (Sniffles) I'm on this downward spiral, and I don't want to take him down with me.

Jack: (Fussing)

Taylor: Jack deserves to have a happy childhood. He deserves that, and I can't give it to him. He can't have that with me. I can't give him what he needs. I have to-- I have to let him go.

Taylor: (Sniffles) He needs somebody who can give him what I can't. (Sighs) I think that's you, Brooke.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Taylor: You told me over and over again that you had a connection to the baby and that you-- you wanted to be a part of his life because you love him with all your heart. Do you still feel that way?

Brooke: Yes.

Taylor: That's what he needs. He needs his mother to love him, to love him with all her heart without any reservations, without any doubts, without any holding back. Can you do that?

Brooke: Yes. Yes.

Taylor: (Voice breaking) Can you give him what I can't? Please...

Brooke: Taylor--

Taylor: Please, just love him. (Sniffles) just love him. That's all I want. Please.

Brooke: I will. (Crying) I will. (Sniffles) I will love him with all my heart.

Taylor: (Sobbing)

Brooke: (Whispers) come here. (Sniffles) (Laughs) (Crying)

Taylor: (Cries)

Jack: (Laughs)

Taylor: (Gasps) (Laughs)

Jack: (Laughs)

Brooke: (Laughs)

Taylor: (Laughs)

Brooke: (Giggles)

Taylor: (Sniffles) (laughs)

Brooke: (Laughs)

Taylor: (Laughs)
