(Machines beeping)
Stephanie: Hello. You're awake. (Whispering) I've missed you so much. Everyone's been praying for you. (Normal voice) and here you are.
Brooke: You and Nick had sex and now you're pregnant with his baby.
Katie: I didn't think it was possible. I was on so much medication. My body was rejecting my heart.
Brooke: You told me not to worry, Katie. That you wouldn't do anything to interfere in Nick and Bridget's relationship.
Katie: I didn't know I was pregnant!
Brooke: You knew that you had sex with him!
Katie: Once. One time.
Brooke: Once. (Scoffs) Once, twice, whatever. Do you think that's gonna really make a difference to Bridget? You are carrying her husband's baby. All of her wounds are going to be open again-- her fears, her insecurities, everything she worked so hard to overcome.
Katie: Bridget will be hurt. That's true. I know. But it doesn't change the fact that against all odds, Nick and I are bringing a child into this world.
Nick: (Sighs) You need anything?
Bridget: Mnh-mnh. No. No thanks. Nothing to drink at least anyway.
Nick: (Chuckles)
Bridget: What's on your mind?
Nick: You.
Bridget: No, I think there's a little more than just me on your mind. You're very sexy when you're pensive.
Nick: Pensive.
Bridget: Well, you are. You're being very pensive.
Nick: (Chuckles)
Bridget: I know there's something going on in that mind of yours, but I really don't care right now 'cause it feels so good to be here in your arms.
Stephanie: Do you know who I am? Are you in pain?
Eric: (Groans) (Grunting)
Stephanie: Sweetheart, I'm sure this is all very confusing for you. Look, you're in the hospital. You had a heart attack. You were at home with Donna. No, no. She's not here now. But she's been here every day. You haven't been alone. All the children have been here, too. Everyone has been praying for you to come back, and now you have. I think I better tell the doctors you're awake.
Eric: (Grunts)
Stephanie: I'll call Donna, too. I'll call all the children.
Stephanie: I just don't want to leave you. Now that you're back, I never want to leave you.
Donna: Owen, wait. I-I can't stop thinking about Eric.
Owen: He's your husband. You're worried about him. That's okay.
Donna: And I love him. I miss him so much, but being here with you after everything you've done feels right, too.
Owen: He told you that he wants you to find happiness.
Donna: After he's gone. But he's still here.
Owen: Donna, we can make each other so happy.
Donna: Owen, I... I do want to be with you so much. But I can't. I can't, not yet. I'm still Eric's wife.
Owen: That doesn't keep you from being lonely.
Stephanie: I know you have a lot of questions, so I want to get the doctors in here because you're awake, and that's what's so important.
Eric: (Grunts)
Stephanie: Donna? Rest assured, I'll call Donna. I-I'll-- I'll call her right now, Eric.
(Cell phone rings) (Ring)
Stephanie: Hello?
Pam: Don't say who it is.
Stephanie: Pam!
Pam: I said don't do that! Are the police monitoring your phone?
Stephanie: Where are you?
Pam: I can't tell you that. I just need to explain, Steph.
Stephanie: Honey, you can do that in person. I-I'll come to wherever you are.
Pam: You want to trap me?
Stephanie: No, I want to help you.
Pam: I'm sorry, Stephanie. I'm so sorry. None of this would have happened, though, if it weren't for Donna. It's all her fault. And she should pay the price.
Stephanie: Pam, stop talking like that.
Pam: She doesn't deserve--
Stephanie: Pam, please listen to me. You're not taking the medication, so you know-- you know you're not thinking clearly.
Pam: Please just say you forgive me, Steph.
Stephanie: Of course, I forgive you, but I need-- look, I've got to come to you, Pam, before the police find you. They will find you.
Pam: No, they won't. They won't, don't worry. I have to go now. I would do anything for you, Steph. Anything to protect you.
Stephanie: I know that, but I don't-- you don't need to protect me, sweetheart.
Pam: I won't be far away.
Stephanie: Pam, don't do this. Pam.
(Cell phone disconnects)
Katie: Nick believes that Bridget will be able to handle this.
Brooke: My daughter can handle a lot, but this is her worst nightmare.
Katie: She has no reason to feel threatened by me.
Brooke: You had sex with her husband.
Katie: Don't. Don't do that. Don't make it sound like something ugly. It wasn't. Nick made me feel alive. He'll make her understand.
Brooke: I need to talk to him first.
Katie: No, I told you. They're spending the evening together.
Brooke: I know. I will just call him--
Katie: No!
Brooke: You haven't thought about this, have you? I know. Because all you see is her generosity and her love and her kindness, and you know what? She is all of those things. But she's my daughter, and I know her. And she is not going to be able to accept this, no matter what Nick does to prepare her.
Bridget: We haven't done this in forever-- just the two of us out here, no place to be, no one to answer to, no crisis to manage.
Nick: For the moment.
Bridget: Well, thank you for being so optimistic.
Nick: (Chuckles) Well, that's life, you know? There's a crisis around every corner.
Bridget: I think we should start calling it a challenge.
Nick: Well, you call it whatever you like. I'm just happy to have you all to myself.
Bridget: Mm-hmm. Well, that makes two of us.
Nick: It's good to see you taking care of yourself like this.
Bridget: Well, yeah. Thank you. I'm not doing it just for me, though. I'm doing it for us. This is good.
Nick: Yeah, it's good.
Bridget: I want to do this more often. Just get out here on the "Marlin"-- you, me, that ocean.
Nick: Is that the busy doctor talking?
Bridget: (Laughs)
Nick: It doesn't sound like her.
Bridget: I never want to be too busy for you ever, ever, ever. Mm. When I am here like this with you holding me, I-I can't even tell you how I feel. I could conquer the world. You make me feel alive and secure and so protected. Mm.
Nick: Honey.
Bridget: Hmm?
Nick: Bridget, there's, uh, something I want to talk to you about.
Bridget: Mm, no, no. Not right now. No, Nick. Not right now.
Katie: I know that this is gonna be hard for her to accept.
Brooke: It'll break her heart.
Katie: Well, keeping it a secret or making up some story isn't gonna change that. I have felt such shame over this. I have hated myself for my behavior, but I can't think of this child as a mistake. I won't bring a baby into this world and give it that label. This is a bad situation, that's true, but it's not impossible.
Brooke: How far along are you?
Katie: I'm at the end of my first trimester. And that's a milestone in any pregnancy, especially mine.
Brooke: Because of your heart transplant?
Katie: We wanted to be sure before we... dropped this bomb on Bridget that the baby would be safe. And so far, everything seems fine. And I can't lie about-- about that. I-I am thrilled about it.
Brooke: So there could be problems.
Katie: It's extremely high risk. But so far, everything is progressing well. The baby's fine. I'm fine.
Brooke: What do you mean when you say "High risk"? You're not just talking about the baby. You mean there could be a risk for you, too?
Owen: Eric loves you. He wouldn't want you to be lonely.
Stephanie: Eric? He was awake when I-- when I--when I left.
Woman: (Whispers) he's sleeping now.
Stephanie: Oh. Well, I called Dr. Seifert. He said he would come over.
Woman: Yeah, the doctor was here. He said you should call him.
Stephanie: Okay. B-but I need to know-- is my husband all right?
Woman: He's conscious. That's a big step forward.
Stephanie: Thank you. (Machines beeping)
Stephanie: (Sighs) she couldn't wait for you, that bitch. She wasn't here when you woke up. I was. I was right by your side where I belong. I couldn't protect you from Pam, but I promise you, I'll shield you from this. You've taken your first steps back-- back to me, to our family, to our life together, to what you really deserve.
Bridget: (Sighs)
Brooke: Having this baby is dangerous?
Katie: It's a risk I'm willing to take. I may not get this chance again.
Brooke: (Sighs) Oh, Katie.
Katie: Brooke, I know you're worried about Bridget, but she's stronger than you think.
Brooke: You have no idea what that beautiful young woman has been through.
Katie: Yes, I do. And it kills me to bring her more pain. I just hope that-- that she can find it in that big, compassionate heart of hers to forgive me.
Brooke: I just don't know how that's possible. She brought you into her home. She saved your life, for god sakes. She even let you perform her wedding ceremony. And now you are pregnant with her husband's baby. This isn't going to just be another crisis. This could possibly be the end of her world.
Nick: Bridget?
Bridget: Mm-hmm?
Nick: I want to tell you something.
Bridget: Okay.
Nick: You know how much I love you.
Bridget: Yes, I do, honey.
Nick: I never would have asked you to marry me again if I didn't believe that I could make you happy.
Bridget: You do. You make me incredibly happy.
Nick: I never want that to change. But life's funny, you know? Sometimes we wind up hurting the person we want to protect the most.
Bridget: Where is all this coming from?
Nick: (Sighs)
Nick: There's something I have to tell you.
Bridget: This is serious, huh?
Nick: Yeah. Yeah, something's happened.
Bridget: When?
Nick: When we thought Katie was dying, and when we went out on the "Marlin."
Bridget: When-- when you took her to Catalina?
Nick: Yes. Something happened on Catalina.
