Man: Morning, Mrs. Forrester.

Donna: Good morning. (Sighs)

Marcus: You okay?

Donna: I-I just can't afford to look weak out there.

Marcus: Well, your husband just had a heart attack. You don't think people would understand?

Donna: Look, I'm a target when Eric is here. Now that he isn't-- God, I just keep thinking of him lying there unconscious, just... (sighs) looking so vulnerable. I'm sorry.

Marcus: Don't be. Look, I'm not one of those people you have to pretend with, Mom. Now while Eric's sick, I'm the one you lean on. Whatever you need. Are we clear on that?

Donna: You--you just-- you just called me Mom. You've-- you've never done that before.

Marcus: Is--is that okay?

Donna: Is it okay? Yes, it's okay. It's wonderful. Oh, Marcus. (Laughs)

Steffy: Marcus is such a great guy. We've gotten to become amazing friends, which Dad isn't crazy about. He keeps warning me to stay away from Donna's son. Only I can't. I don't want to.

Steffy: (Breathing shakily) I wish I could talk to you about this. (Sniffles) maybe you could explain why Dad's so protective of me. You could convince him to give Marcus a chance the way you did, make things better the way you always have.

Ridge: He can feel when we're here.

Steffy: I think so, too.

Steffy: I'll give you a moment with him.

Ridge: Hey, Dad. How's it going?

Ridge: Got back as quick as I could. Things are fine at the office.

Ridge: One hell of a big job fillin' your shoes. But that's what you've been, uh, training me to do since I was a little kid, so I'm gonna do it. Make you proud.

Ridge: I know I have your blessing, Dad.

Donna: (Sighs)

(Knock on door)

Owen: Hey, I just came into work, and I heard about Eric. Look, Donna, I'm so sorry. You must be worried out of your mind.

Donna: Yeah. Yeah, I am. But not just about Eric. Ridge has taken over the company.

Owen: What--you mean he's just gonna handle things until Eric recovers, right?

Donna: No, I mean taken control, legally.

Owen: Wait, how?

Donna: Ridge has been pressuring Eric to give the company as a gift. Ridge and Brooke would divvy up the shares among the family and then take over the business.

Owen: Wait. While Eric does what?

Donna: Retires, supposedly.

Owen: It doesn't seem like he'd be ready.

Donna: No, he's not. This is not what Eric wants, Owen. And I have to wonder if the stress caused his heart attack. I mean, Ridge went to a lawyer. They drew up papers. And he shoved it in his face when he got back from the trip. Yes, Eric agreed to it, and Ridge signed the paper. So that's it, right? There's nothing I can do to stop this from happening.

Owen: Now wait a minute. Where are the papers? I mean, may I see them?

Donna: It's right here. (Sighs)

Owen: All right, this one's got Ridge's signature. Is there another copy with Eric's?

Donna: No. Eric didn't sign anything. He gave Ridge a verbal agreement. But--but he changed his mind right before he passed out. Look, I know it was his intention to give the company to Ridge someday, but not yet. Not yet. But this is a done deal, right? I mean, Eric's gonna wake up and find out that he lost his company, and it's all my fault.

Owen: No, Donna, wait. This may not be a done deal yet.

Donna: How am I gonna stand up to Ridge?

Owen: There may be a way.

Donna: Owen, are you telling me I could stop this? Ridge is so much savvier than I am about this.

Owen: Luckily, you have an assistant who's no slouch either.

Donna: Wait, if you could help-- I mean, I just-- I feel like I'm so in over my head. I--

Owen: You need to find Eric's documents, see who he designated to make decisions for him if he's incapacitated.

Donna: Well, they might be in the safe here in the office.

Owen: Wait, do you have the combination?

Donna: Well, of course I do. Eric trusts me with everything.

Owen: Well, I'm gonna lock the door just in case.

Marcus: Hey, um, I've been waiting for you.

Steffy: (Laughs) I've been waiting to see you, too.

Marcus: (Laughs nervously)

Steffy: (Giggles)

Marcus: So did you go to the hospital?

Steffy: Mm-hmm.

Marcus: How's Eric doing?

Steffy: The same. (Sighs) I know this sounds weird, but I could always talk to my grandfather about anything, and he'd always give the perfect advice.

Marcus: So why is that weird?

Steffy: Because... I can't now. Here I am, pouring out my heart, and I don't even know if he can hear me.

Marcus: Well, I bet you that helped.

Steffy: Yeah, kinda.

Marcus: Maybe I should talk to him, too, then.

Steffy: About what?

Marcus: Well, I'll say, "Eric, I just kissed your granddaughter, and she's all I can think about. Why is that? How come I can't get Steffy off my mind?"

Donna: You know, I have no idea what any of this stuff is.

Owen: Well, the two of you haven't been married very long, so it's possible that Ridge or Eric's ex-wife might still have his power of attorney, in which case, you're not really gonna have much--ahh! Bingo.

Donna: What? What, you found what you needed?

Owen: Yep.

Donna: Well, what does it say?

Owen: It's you, Donna. You've got Eric's power of attorney.

Donna: Power of attorney?

Owen: Ridge's signature on that document means absolutely nothing. As long as Eric is incapacitated, you are in charge of Forrester Creations.

Donna: (Sighs)

Owen: See, unfortunately, Eric is in a position where he can't let his wishes be known, and this document, power of attorney, gives you the legal right to make decisions on his behalf. If you believe he wouldn't want to transfer ownership, then you've got the power to stop it. As long as you're acting in the best interest of your husband, Ridge can't push this through. That is the answer you were looking for, right?

Donna: I know what Eric wanted, and I-- I want to honor his wishes.

Owen: But?

Donna: But I also want to do what's best for Forrester Creations. Ridge loves this company as much as his father, and he would do a good job running it. Eric knew that, or else he wouldn't have made the verbal agreement.

Owen: Well, like it or not, you've got the upper hand here, and you have it because Eric put your name on this document. So now you have all the information. If I were you, I would take that document that Ridge signed, put it in an envelope, seal it, and put it in your safety deposit box. Don't even fold it. It's evidence.

Donna: I understand. Thank you, Owen.

Owen: Just doing my job.

Donna: Okay, well, I-I'm gonna go see Eric. Maybe then I'll-- I'll know the right thing to do.

Rick: You have to get better, Dad, 'cause we all need you. I need you. Is this what you want? You want Ridge to run the company? Give me a sign. Anything. I just--I need to know for sure.

Rick: Hey!

Donna: How are you?

Rick: Okay. How you holding up?

Donna: Uh, thanks for asking. Um, I don't know. I-it's been a nightmare. I'm--I'm so used to--to having your father to turn to.

Rick: And now when you need him the most...

Donna: Yeah. You have been so supportive of us when no one else has. I mean, even our wedding-- you were his best man. All the other kids were there to--to protest, hoping out loud that, you know, he would-- wouldn't go through with it.

Rick: (Scoffs) Well, Donna, I of all people know what it's like to be in love with someone when your whole family is against you.

Donna: Yeah. Well, just know that I-I really appreciate it.

Rick: I do.

Donna: Thanks.

Rick: I'll see you.

Donna: (Sighs)

Donna: Hi, honey. It's me. God, I hate being away from you.

Donna: You're not in any pain, are you?

Donna: God, you know, you keep surprising me. Power of attorney? It just shows me how much you believe in me. Oh, Eric, I-I-- I want to earn your trust. I want to do the right thing. I want to protect your company, but I also know how much you love your children. I just have to believe that you meant what you said when we were alone, right bef--

Ridge: I'll come back.

Donna: No, Ridge, please, just stay. I-I really-- I need to tell you something.

Ridge: Oh, I think we've said everything we needed to say.

Donna: Look, I-I know you expect me to fall in line like a good little soldier, but I can't do that. You cannot take ownership of the company, not while Eric is in a coma. I am gonna fight you. I will do whatever it takes to protect my husband.

Steffy: Wow, that's a pretty big problem.

Marcus: What? Thinking about you constantly? Uh, yeah, I'll say.

Steffy: (Giggles) I'm that much of a distraction, huh? Maybe I'll leave you alone and let you focus on your work.

Marcus: Unh-unh. Unh-unh. Unh-unh. Unh-unh. Unh-unh. Stop playing. Don't do that. Don't do that.

Donna: Ridge, I have heard all your reasons, but it's not what Eric wanted.

Ridge: Dad told me what he wanted, Donna. I've known it for years-- to hand the reigns over to me, his son.

Ridge: I do not want to argue in front of Dad.

Donna: Neither do I.

Ridge: Then we just need to agree to disagree then. Because the ownership transfer is gonna go through.

Donna: No. No, it's not. I have your father's power of attorney.

Ridge: What?

Donna: Yes, it's true. And I'm gonna do everything in my power to protect my husband's interests.

Ridge: (Sighs) look, Donna, we are a tight family. We handle things in a civil manner amongst ourselves. Powers of attorney are not needed at Forrester Creations, not between a father and his son.

Donna: Ridge, I know that you don't have a lot of respect for me, but I am not gonna allow you to do this, not while Eric is incapacitated and I'm responsible for speaking on his behalf.

Ridge: Why are we even talking about the company when what's important is helping Dad get through this?

Donna: Good. I'm glad you feel that way.

Ridge: Of course, I do. He's my father, and I love him.

Donna: Ridge, I know you love him. And I know you love the company. I would never doubt that.

Donna: Oh, honey bear, please help me be strong. Help me do the right thing. I just have to believe that you--you meant what you said. God, it's your legacy. It's your life's work. You have poured your heart and soul into it for years.

Donna: (Sighs) I promise you I won't lose it. When you come back, Forrester Creations will be yours to run. Just-- just come back. Just come back to me.

Ridge: (Thinking) "Honey bear"? How sickening. Everything about you is phony. You're the reason this happened. Now you're using a power of attorney against me. I don't care if you are Brooke's sister. I will take you down.

Donna: (Sighs)
