Ridge: I don't believe Taylor would do this.
Brooke: Phoebe said that it was over, that Taylor broke it off with Rick. Of course, we've heard that before.
Ridge: How could she hurt Phoebe like that?
Taylor: You know?
Ridge: That Phoebe found you in bed with her boyfriend? Hell, yeah, we know. Look what you've done to her, Taylor. Look what you've done to our daughter.
Phoebe: Thank you.
(Indistinct conversations)
Rick: Hey.
Phoebe: Hi.
Rick: Can I...
Phoebe: Uh, yeah, yeah.
Rick: (Clears throat) How you doing?
Phoebe: It's just, um, I was thinking about us.
Rick: Yeah, Phoebe, I, uh--
Phoebe: No, Rick, look, I-I have to say something, okay? What we had when we were together was-- is so precious to me, and I wouldn't give up those memories for anything. But... (sniffles) life moves on, doesn't it? I mean, you certainly have, and the way I see it, I can either be a victim, which means someone else is in control of my life and not me, or I can accept what is.
Phoebe: And I guess what is is you and my mom.
Rick: That's, um-- that's very enlight -- enlightened.
Phoebe: No, it's pretty practical.
Rick: So how do you feel about your mom?
Phoebe: (Sniffles) I know she loves me. That's why she broke it off with you.
Rick: Your mother does love you, Phoebe, more than she loves me. She would never do anything to betray you, no matter what the price.
Phoebe: (Sniffles) (Sighs)
(Telephone rings)
Pam: Forrester creations. May I help you?
Marcus: Yes. Can I speak to Donna Logan, please?
Pam: May I ask who's calling?
Marcus: Yes. Just tell her it's Marcus.
Pam: Uh, well, Donna actually isn't available right now. Can I take a message?
Marcus: Yeah. Can you just tell her I called?
Pam: And does she have your number?
Marcus: Um, let's see. Uh, well, my--my cell's running out of juice right now, but, um, can I give you this number?
Pam: Oh. Well, I've got that one right here on Caller I.D.
Marcus: Okay, thank you.
Pam: You're welcome. He's calling from insomnia. Marcus? I wonder what you are up to, Donna.
Eric: Donna, there's nothing you could possibly say to me that would change my opinion of you, nothing. So what--what-- what did you want to tell me?
Donna: You have so much faith in me.
Eric: Yes, I do. Of course I do. That's why I married you. I know you so well. I think I know you better than you know yourself sometimes, and that's why I, uh--
Donna: That-- that's why you what?
Eric: I-I made Ridge a promise and--and, uh, the rest of the family, too.
Donna: A-a promise?
Eric: Yeah. I don't want you to worry about this or to bring yourself down.
Donna: Okay, what is it?
Eric: Look, um, the family's worried.
Donna: About--about what?
Eric: They're afraid that you're gonna bring some kind of a scandal down on the company, you know? I told them that you wouldn't, of course, but it-- but, uh...
Donna: (Sighs) Go on.
Eric: But in the unlikely event that you did, I would step aside, that I would leave Forrester Creations.
Donna: They can't force you out of your own company, a company you built from scratch. It's so unfair.
Eric: No, it is not, and it's not gonna happen. It isn't. They're just-- they're just concerned.
Donna: Yeah.
Eric: That's all.
Donna: Yeah, concerned-- concerned about themselves, certainly not about you.
Eric: No, no, they're concerned about me. They're worried. You know, they're worried about me and my company and my legacy and everything I've worked on for so long. Anyway, that's where they're coming from, all right? But they don't know you. They don't know you the way I do. They will, eventually. You'll see.
Donna: In the meantime, be on my best behavior.
Eric: No. No, you just be yourself. I don't want you changing for them or anybody else.
Donna: I'm not like them, Eric.
Eric: (Whispers) I know. That's why I love you so much. (Normal voice) Now what is it? What--what did you want to talk to me about?
Donna: You know, it's not-- I don't--it's just really not important anymore.
Eric: Look, I'm sorry. I didn't want you to be upset by this, but now I-I can see that you are. I'm sorry.
Donna: Are there any other demands they put on you?
Eric: No, no. Well, yes. Yeah, there is-- there is one thing. There is one other thing we should talk about.
Donna: What?
Eric: They're threatened by our relationship.
Donna: Well, Eric, that is pretty obvious.
Eric: I know. They're worried about what would happen if we had a child.
Donna: Well, what did you tell them?
Eric: I told them we hadn't really discussed it, and--and--and I just assumed it wouldn't be a part of our lives.
Donna: Because you-- you already have a family.
Eric: To be really selfish about it, I have to say that you're all I-- you're all I really want. Are you okay with that?
Donna: I-I don't know, Eric. I-I-I really haven't given it a lot of thought.
Eric: I didn't think you had, and that's--that's why I made the assumption. Oh, Donna, I believe in us so much, so much, that I'm not worried about any of this. This business with Ridge and the family, it'll all go away eventually. They'll just get tired of looking for skeletons in your closet that are not even there, you know? And they'll just get-- they'll stop looking. They will. Then Ridge can just-- he can do what he does best. He can design beautiful clothes for beautiful women, and he can take care of his own kids.
Donna: (Laughs)
Eric: (Laughs) Okay. Mm, honey.
Taylor: I am not going to defend myself to you, Ridge, and certainly not to you, Brooke.
Brooke: That's because you have no defense, Taylor.
Taylor: It wasn't my intention to hurt Phoebe.
Ridge: But you did hurt her, Taylor, regardless of your intention.
Brooke: Walking in on her mother and her boyfriend?
Taylor: We haven't slept together.
Ridge: That doesn't make any difference. Phoebe saw the two of you together. She knows what's going on.
Taylor: (Sighs) Ridge, listen to me. Listen. Nothing happened. Nothing was happening, okay? It didn't look very good, but it did help-- it forced the issue and helped the truth to come out. And something good did come of it. I was able to show Phoebe that-- that I'm willing to sacrifice my happiness for her. Rick loves me, and I ended it. Now--now Phoebe knows that-- that my relationship with her trumps everything, even that.
Ridge: What about Rick? Does he share this attitude, as well?
Taylor: He wants whatever I want. He wants me to be happy. I mean, I... it's like he made me the center of his universe.
Brooke: So now my son's universe is crumbling. Is that what you're telling me?
Rick: No, that's not what she's telling you at all.
Katie: Hey.
Donna: Katie? What are you-- what are you doing here? You should be resting.
Katie: Oh, I had to get out of the house, and I need to talk to you.
Pam: Hi, Donna. Hi, Katie.
Katie: Hi, Pammy.
Donna: Pam, did I get any messages?
Pam: Oh, I don't think so. Uh, let me look. Well, were you expecting a call from someone special?
Donna: Come on. Let's go inside. .
Eric: I want you to track down those courier packs we sent to Europe yesterday. I want to be certain they got there.
Pam: Right away, Eric.
Eric: All right, good.
Pam: Wow, the tension around this place...
Eric: The tension?
Pam: Yeah, with you and your family. How do you stand it? Are you sure that Donna's worth all this, Eric?
Eric: Pam, Donna and I are in love. This marriage is gonna last. Look, we all understand about your loyalty to Stephanie, but if you want to continue working here--
Pam: I am loyal to you, too, Eric.
Eric: Hear what I'm saying, Pam. If you interfere in my relationship with Donna, I'll have no recourse but to let you go.
Pam: Okey-dokey. (Clears throat)
Marcus: Come on, Donna, call me. You must have gotten the message by now.
Katie: So...
Donna: So what?
Katie: How did Eric react when you told him about your son?
Donna: I didn't tell him. I couldn't.
Katie: Why not?
Donna: Well, he told me something first. His family gave him an ultimatum.
Katie: An ultimatum?
Donna: They said that if I create a scandal, then he agreed to leave Forrester.
Katie: You're kidding?
Donna: No, I-I wish.
Katie: (Sighs) Donna, this isn't a scandal.
Donna: Oh, yeah. Well, tell that to Ridge and the rest of them. Oh, oh. And--and there was something else, actually.
Katie: What?
Donna: He said that he doesn't want to-- he doesn't want to have any kids.
Katie: Oh. I'm sorry. But you do have one.
Donna: Marcus.
Katie: I hope you're not beating yourself up over this.
Donna: Katie, the way he-- he was looking at me, the rejection in his eyes... I have to wonder if I did the right thing all those years ago.
Katie: Honey, you gave your child to a good family so they could raise him. There is no reason to feel any regrets.
Donna: (Sobs) no, Katie, you know... I have always, always had regrets. And now I may have given up my only chance to make it up to my son.
Eric: Hey. Donna?
Donna: (Sniffles)
Eric: What is it, honey? What's the matter?
Rick: What Taylor said is true. She is the center of my universe.
Ridge: Well, tell me something, Rick. Does Phoebe live in that universe? Does it even matter what you did to her?
Rick: But--yes, of course it does, Ridge. Look, I'm sorry Phoebe found out the way she did. But the--the fact of the matter is I wasn't committed to Phoebe when I get involved with Taylor.
Ridge: She's her mother, not to mention you were Phoebe's first boyfriend.
Rick: Yeah, w-what's your point? I'm supposed to get to my ex-girlfriend's approval before I get involved with someone new?
Ridge: The point is you knew how it would devastate her.
Rick: Phoebe will be fine, Ridge.
Ridge: Really? She's just gonna get over it just like that, huh? (Snaps fingers) I don't think so, Rick. Phoebe may never get over this one.
Phoebe: Oh, everyone's here. Okay, uh, I actually have something to say to all of you, especially you, Mom.
Eric: I think I know what this is about.
Donna: What?
Eric: Is this about me not wanting you and me to have children?
Donna: No, it... (sighs) I-I just--I hate the position your children are putting you in.
Eric: Oh, well, that's all just nonsense, all right? The reason the kids are just concerned about me-- they love me. They're worried about me. That's all this is.
Donna: Yeah, they may love you, but they hate me, Eric.
Katie: Donna's right. I--your kids are never going to give my sister a fair shot.
Eric: Well, they will if we just stay the course. We'll just ignore them.
Katie: How are we going to ignore them when they're looking for any reason to get Donna out of your life?
Eric: Well, there is no reason, you know? It--how can they find trouble if there is no trouble? And there isn't, is there?
Katie: No, there isn't.
Eric: Donna, I love you. Nothing is ever gonna change that. I promise you.
Pam: It's you.
Marcus: Excuse me?
Pam: I saw you leaving Eric's house the other day. Well, how do you do?
Marcus: Um, who are you?
Pam: Look, you little whippersnapper, you are so busted. And don't think you're gonna slither your way out of this, either.
Marcus: (Sighs) Okay, listen, lady. But I've got no idea what you're talking about.
Pam: I'm talking about Donna Logan. Now I got your attention, don't I?
Phoebe: Looks like I walked in on something pretty tense.
Ridge: Phoebe, you don't have to be involved in this.
Phoebe: Of course I have to be involved, Dad. Isn't this about me?
Brooke: No, Phoebe. This is about Rick and your mother and a very sick relationship.
Ridge: Sweetie, I know it's probably hard for you to believe, but your mother never actually intended to hurt you.
Phoebe: Mom can speak for herself. (Sighs) Can't you?
Taylor: Sweetheart, you know I feel terrible about what I did to you. But it's never gonna happen again. I've given you my word on that.
Brooke: Rick, I hope you're listening to her.
Taylor: Phoebe, you may not want to hear anything I have to say to you right now, but it is over. It's over between Rick and me. It's not going to change.
Rick: Phoebe, look, I am really so terribly sorry that this hap--
Phoebe: Look, will you people just stop, okay? Everyone, listen to me. Look, Rick says that he's in love with you, Mom, and... I guess you love him, too.
Taylor: But it's over. I've ended it. My commitment is to you.
Phoebe: Yeah, but why? I've grown up, Mom. I'm not a child.
Taylor: (Sighs) But you'll always be my baby. I would do anything for you. You know that.
Phoebe: Even give up a man you've fallen in love with because you think I can't handle it?
Taylor: It isn't because I don't think you could handle it.
Phoebe: Well, sure it is. You don't want me to be hurt, and you keep saying that, but... what about the hurt this is causing you?
Brooke: Don't worry. They'll get over it.
Phoebe: And in the meantime, what? Brooke, I-I wake up every morning knowing I'm responsible for two of the most important people in my life being miserable?
Phoebe: Look, if you two really want each other, and more and more, I believe that you do, how can I stand in your way? I can't do that to you.
Ridge: Oh, Phoebe, don't forget what they've done to you here.
Phoebe: They didn't do anything to me, Dad. They fell in love. I know what that's like. (Sniffles) and I also know how it feels when that love is denied. I'm not going to stand in your way. I couldn't live with myself if I did that.
Taylor: (Sniffles)
Rick: (Sighs) Taylor...
Rick: Marry me. There's nothing stopping us now.
Brooke: Wait. Wait a minute.
Rick: No, Mom.
Brooke: Wait just a minute!
Rick: I think we've waited long enough. Thank you.
Brooke: Look, Taylor, don't do this, please. If you care about Rick-- and I honestly think that you do-- if you love your daughter-- and I know that you do-- then don't accept this engagement ring. Please, I am begging you. Don't do this to our children.
