Donna: My son hates me.

Katie: No, he doesn't. He's just... overwhelmed.

Donna: He's angry, and he should be. I... I gave him away. I gave my own baby to complete strangers.

Katie: Donna, you gave him a family.

Donna: Katie... Katie, he had a family-- me and you and Brooke and Storm.

Katie: You wanted him to have more than what we did.

Donna: I kept him a secret, Katie, all these years.

Katie: Well, you can't do that anymore. You've gotta tell Eric.

Donna: Tell him I have a son that he's--he's never heard of?

Katie: You have to be honest with him and tell him everything if you want this marriage to last.

Ridge: (Clears throat)

Eric: Not one more word about my wife.

Ridge: I'm sorry it had to be that way, Dad. We didn't intend to hurt you.

Eric: How am I supposed to feel? I mean, my children want me to-- want me to give up my company because they don't like my wife.

Ridge: Donna could be a liability. I'm worried, Dad. I'm worried about the company. I'm worried about our family. Most of all, I'm worried about you. You seem to feel this duty to protect your wife. I get that, but you also have a responsibility to your family. Now if that's gonna present a problem to you, then maybe it is time to step down.

Eric: What--choose?

Ridge: You can do right by Donna and your children. You just can't do it here at work.

Eric: This is my company.

Ridge: Dad, and I want to protect that. I want to-- I want to keep that alive for your children, as well as mine.

(Phoebe remembering )

Taylor: He's been here for me. He's--he's been so supportive, and he's been so kind, and he's been comforting, and we just-- we got close. We got close, and it was something that was just completely unexpected.

Rick: Okay, Phoebe, when I--when I finally realized how I felt, I-I was the one who was--who was pushing our relationship to--to be more than just friends, okay? Your mother wanted nothing to do with it, okay, because she didn't want to hurt you. That's the truth. But the bottom line is, Phoebe, we've fallen in love with each other.

Brooke: Uh, Phoebe, I didn't know you were back from Australia.

Phoebe: I-I-I wanted it to be a surprise.

Brooke: Have you seen your dad?

Phoebe: No. Have you?

Brooke: He was just in a meeting with Eric.

Phoebe: Will it be finished soon? I really need to talk to him.

Brooke: I don't know. But is there something I can do for you?

Phoebe: No.

Brooke: (Sighs) Are you sure? You seem upset.

Phoebe: Brooke-- I only want to talk to my dad, Brooke. No one else.

Brooke: You've already been to the house. You know, don't you? About Rick and your mother?

Taylor: She cannot handle it.

Rick: She just needs a little time, Taylor.

Taylor: No, no, Rick. No. No. I do--I do not want to hurt Phoebe. I don't even know what you're doing here in my house. What are you doing in my bedroom? If she comes home--

Rick: We need to talk about this.

Taylor: Not tonight.

Rick: Then when, Taylor? When are we gonna talk about it? I've been calling you. I've been leaving you messages.

Taylor: I'm sorry.

Rick: You're shutting me out.

Taylor: No, I'm trying to make you understand that I have already told Phoebe that I'm not going to be seeing you anymore. It is over. It has to be over, Rick.

Eric: I'm not gonna shut Donna out of this company. She's part of this family now. She has a right to be involved.

Ridge: At what risk?

Eric: You tell me. Are you willing to jeopardize our relationship for this? Because that's what's gonna happen if you keep pushing.

Ridge: Dad, she does not have to be front and center. Minimize her role, minimize the risk.

Eric: There is no risk! There is no scandal!

Ridge: Okay, but if there is, you'd step down. Those are your words.

Eric: It's not gonna happen, Ridge. I trust Donna. She's not gonna let me down.

Donna: I've been lying to my husband, Katie. I've been lying to everyone for years.

Katie: (Sighs) No. Donna, this is different. It's not lying.

Donna: Well, I haven't told the truth.

Katie: You gave away a child. That has got to be the hardest decision for any woman to make. No one has a right to judge you.

Donna: But I will be judged, Katie, and so will Eric. His family will use this against him-- show him what a liability I am.

Katie: Eric won't let them. He's wonderful, and he loves you. You know that.

Donna: I-I don't want to burden Eric with this.

Katie: Donna, listen to me. Secrets are toxic in a relationship. If you don't get this out in the open, it could destroy everything.

Donna: Some secrets will destroy everything no matter what you do.

Phoebe: I feel like such an idiot. I actually thought Rick and I had a chance, but the whole time he and my mom...

Brooke: They wanted to tell you for a while.

Phoebe: They didn't tell me. I walked in on them in Mom's bedroom.

Brooke: Oh, honey, I'm so sorry.

Phoebe: How could they do this, Brooke?

Brooke: We didn't want this to happen. Your father and I wanted to try to protect you.

Phoebe: By keeping it from me?

Brooke: We tried to reason with them, to convince them how much this was going to hurt you. I wish we could have found a way to really convince them, but... (sighs) I thought we could help stop this.

Phoebe: It has stopped. Mom ended things with Rick.

Rick: Taylor, I am not gonna let you do this. You're gonna regret it.

Taylor: I'll regret hurting my daughter more.

Rick: Taylor, I know you still want to be with me. Tell me you do.

Taylor: (Sighs) I do. (Sniffles) there's nothing more that I want right now than for you to be holding me. No, but that's not what this is about. It's not about what I want.

Rick: So you're telling me that because you're a mother, you don't deserve to be happy? You don't deserve to be fulfilled?

Taylor: No, not at the expense of my children. Did you see the look in Phoebe's eyes? Did you see the pain? Did you see how she was feeling so betrayed? She--she was so angry at me? I-I can't handle that. I can't. I cannot do that to my daughter.

Eric: 10:00 is fine. Yes. I appreciate you setting that up. Yeah, tell him I'm looking forward to it. Thank you. Hi. I didn't know I was gonna see you again today.

Donna: Hi. I-I was hoping you'd be alone.

Eric: Hmm. Ridge is just leaving.

Ridge: We can pick this up later.

Eric: No. No, we can't.

Donna: You know what? This--this really isn't the best time. We can just get to this at home. It's--

Eric: No, no, no, you stay here. Nobody drives my wife out of my office.

Donna: It--it's not something I really want to get into here. I-I don't know what I was thinking.

Eric: Donna? Is something wrong?

Ridge: I'll go.

Donna: No, stay.

Eric: I know what it is. Look, the things that my family said about you were inappropriate-- completely inappropriate. You deserve an apology.

Donna: But I don't-- I don't need that. Could we just go somewhere, please?

Ridge: Look, you two obviously have some issues to get through here.

Donna: Look, could you please just not argue about me? I know how you feel about our marriage, about my involvement in the company. But could you please just not take it out on your dad? Look, I know you want to help, but you don't have to answer for me.

Rick: You can't keep denying your feelings, Taylor. It's not helping anybody.

Taylor: I haven't denied my feelings.

Rick: Really? You told me that you loved me.

Taylor: I meant it.

Rick: And then you tell Phoebe that you don't want to see me again?

Taylor: I had to do that, Rick.

Rick: (Scoffs) You can't change what Phoebe saw, okay? And you sure as hell can't change what we have been to each other.

Taylor: I need to do this for Phoebe.

Rick: It was a knee-jerk reaction, and you know it.

Taylor: It's done, Rick.

Rick: You did--Taylor, you think that giving me up is gonna show Phoebe how important she is to you? No, it's gonna show Phoebe that all we had was a fling. And you know damn well we didn't have a fling. We were planning a future together.

Taylor: Phoebe can't accept that, though.

Rick: (Sighs) Give her a chance. She's an adult, Taylor. Start talking to her like one. It--stop running from this like it's--like it's a dark dirty secret.

Taylor: I don't have a choice.

Rick: All right, listen to me. It doesn't have to be your happiness or hers.

Taylor: Yes, it does. It does. How could I ever possibly be happy knowing that I've broken her heart like this?

Rick: Just tell her that you love me. Phoebe is your daughter, Taylor. She wants you to be happy. She just hasn't been around to see it and what our relationship has done for you-- what it's done for us. If we give her the opportunity to--to see how good we are for each other, how happy you are with me, maybe it'll change her mind. In fact, I know it would.

Brooke: Your mom ended it?

Phoebe: She sent Rick away.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Phoebe: Mom gave me her word, Brooke. It's over.

Brooke: She said that before.

Phoebe: Not to me.

Brooke: It must have been very difficult for your mother to be confronted that way.

Phoebe: You feel sorry for her?

Brooke: (Sighs) No parent wants to betray their child.

Phoebe: Well, then why did she do it? She knew it would hurt me. Why didn't they stop?

Brooke: I don't know.

Phoebe: You don't think it's true that they're in love, do you? They can't be.

Ridge: Phoebe. Sweetie, are you crying? What happened?

Brooke: Phoebe came home early and wanted to surprise her mother. She went to the house unannounced. Rick was there.

Ridge: Oh, no. Oh, sweethearts. I'm so sorry. It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be all right.

Phoebe: (Sobbing)

Eric: If my children want to behave like, uh, like children, there's nothing for you to feel guilty about.

Donna: But if it's pulling your family apart, Eric, I-I don't want to cause problems for you.

Eric: It's only a problem if we look at it that way.

Donna: If... if only it were that simple.

Eric: You can't let 'em get to you.

Donna: You--you don't have to defend yourself because of me. I'm responsible for my own mistakes. They don't reflect on you.

Eric: That's not the way it works. We bring everything into this that we have together-- everything--past mistakes and parking tickets and bad credit--everything.

Donna: (Sighs) I... I have to... tell you something, Eric. I just... I just don't want it to change your opinion of me.

Eric: That could never happen. That could never happen. Now what is it? (Exhales deeply) What's happened that you want to tell me about?

Phoebe: It's like I could see what was happening, but my brain wouldn't let me believe it.

Ridge: Sweetheart, you have to understand your mother's been under a lot of stress. With the custody battle, her divorce from Nick, I think this affair with Rick is just a reaction to all that.

Brooke: Taylor broke it off.

Phoebe: She did it for me.

Ridge: I just wish she'd done it a lot sooner.

Phoebe: If you knew about it, why didn't you say anything?

Ridge: Because I was hoping your mother would come to her senses. (Sighs) sweetie... I'd give anything to erase that memory.

Phoebe: Yeah, me, too. (Sniffles)

Taylor: You should not have come back here.

Rick: You knew I would. I had to.

Taylor: You want me to explain to my daughter something I don't even understand? I mean, I've known you your whole life. And if somebody had told me a year ago that I would have the feelings that I have for you, I would have told them they were out of their mind.

Rick: So tell her that. Tell her that--that this is not what we expected.

Taylor: Oh, that it's something that just happened? No, no, those words will not come out of my mouth.

Rick: Then just tell her how you feel.

Taylor: Phoebe doesn't understand what my life was like. When you and I started bonding, she has no idea what I was going through. I didn't want her to see me that weak. I didn't want her to see me broken.

Rick: You're not broken anymore.

Taylor: And that's because of you. I don't know how I would have gotten through this without you. I don't know how I would have done it without your love and support.

Rick: Exactly. And I don't want you to find out.

Taylor: No, but you heard Phoebe. You heard what she said. And when I look at it from her perspective--

Rick: D-d-what Phoebe said is--is--is not unlike what we've heard all along from Ridge, from my mother.

Taylor: No, this is different.

Rick: No, it's not.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Rick: It's just harder, and it hurts more because it's Phoebe. It's your daughter. But this is how people react to unconventional relationships. Look at my father and Donna. Nobody wanted them to get married, but they pushed through. They didn't postpone the wedding. And look at 'em. They're happier than ever.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Rick: I want that for us. That's why I'm not giving up. I can't. I won't.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Taylor: (Inhales sharply)

Rick: Taylor--

Taylor: I have to.

Taylor: I cannot hurt Phoebe. You have been... (sniffles) the most unbelievable surprise. You've been like a miraculous gift. You've been so there for me, and I have never met anyone like you. No one's ever loved me the way you have. With Ridge and--and--and Nick, it was always Brooke. With you, it's just me. You make me feel like a queen... (laughs) like your queen, like--like I was the center of the universe.

Rick: Because that's what you are to me.

Taylor: But I can't be that for you. Please, if you love me, please just walk away. I can't do it by myself. You can't show up like this anymore. You can't. I'll fall. I need you to please just go. Help me do it. Please. I know I'm going to be scared. (Crying) I know I'm going to be lonely, but I don't want to lose my daughter. Please. (Sniffles)

Taylor: (Crying) (Sniffles) (Exhales deeply)

Taylor: (Sniffles)
