Rick: Hey, beautiful.

Ashley: Hey, handsome, how are you?

Rick: Good. I didn't expect to see you here.

Ashley: Uh, yeah, I'm just dropping off some focus group results for your dad.

Rick: I hear you're heading to Genoa City.

Ashley: Mm-hmm, yeah, just for business-- very short trip.

Rick: Oh, so you're coming back?

Ashley: Of course. Why wouldn't I?

Rick: Oh, it was just this--this look you got in your face.

Ashley: What look?

Rick: Oh, that, um, "I have a lucky man on my mind" look. Is there someone I don't know about?

Ashley: No, no.

Rick: (Laughs)

Ashley: Mnh-mnh.

Rick: I'm just asking.

Ashley: Unh-unh. What about you? You seem very happy these days. Is there a new woman in your life? Or are you maybe too busy protecting Taylor these days?

Ridge: Hey, Doc. What's up?

Taylor: Uh, well, just, um, looking around for a friendly face.

Ridge: Well, you found one. I was thinking about you, wondering how you've been.

Taylor: Mm, surviving.

Ridge: That's good to hear. You know I'm here for you, right?

Taylor: You are? Really?

Ridge: I know what happened with Jack. I'm really sorry about that. I also know you've been having some serious problems.

Taylor: Okay, now is this going to be a friendly conversation, or are you going to give me a lecture about being an unfit mother? Because trust me, I already know that this has been one nightmare of a year. On top of it all, they just took my child away from me. And now I can't even visit with him without having it being supervised. And this is all brought to me courtesy of Brooke, because she couldn't stay away from my son.

Ridge: I told Brooke to stay away, but you know how she is. Anyway, Doc, this isn't about Brooke. I want to know how you're doing today, right now.

Taylor: Well... (chuckles) considering the week I've had, um, I'm doing okay. I think I'd be doing even better if that person you call a fiancée would be out of my life completely. Really, if you think about it, is it any wonder that I've had a hard time these last few months, really? Everything that I've lost has been because of Brooke, even my child's biology. My child has her D.N.A. Now how does that happen?

Bridget: So I'm just gonna need you to make sure you finish the entire prescription, and if you're not feeling better in a couple of days, go ahead and give me a call.

Woman: Thanks again, Dr. Forrester.

Bridget: Oh, you're welcome. Feel better, okay?

Eric: Hi, honey.

Bridget: Oh, Dad, hi. What brings you here?

Eric: News travels fast.

Bridget: Yeah? Mwah. That's rather cryptic.

Eric: I hear you're seeing Nick Marone again.

Bridget: Hmm.

Eric: Is that true?

Bridget: (Laughs)

Nick: I don't think I like where this conversation has gone.

Katie: I am worried about Bridget.

Nick: I get that.

Katie: You must know how she feels about you. I mean, to sleep with her when you don't know where you stand--

Nick: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. Bridget's not a child. This is something that we both wanted, something that we agreed upon.

Katie: Even if it doesn't lead to anything more?

Nick: I'm not comfortable having this conversation with you.

Katie: You're gonna break her heart again, aren't you?

Nick: Is it too early to start drinking?

Katie: You should be so grateful that a woman like Bridget will even give you the time of day. I mean, you should be counting your lucky stars that she even gives a damn about you. (Sighs heavily)

Nick: What are you wearing?

Katie: What?

Taylor: No, really, I-I mean, I have had to go through more losses than one person should have to deal with in their entire lifetime because of Brooke.

Ridge: Oh, Taylor.

Taylor: No, I'm just trying to tell you-- let me finish. I just want to explain to you that I am doing better, because I'm determined to get past this. And I'm going to see the judge, and he's going to see that I'm doing better, that I'm getting my act together, that I've got my life back on track and that I'm stable.

Ridge: Well, you definitely seem better than I thought I would find you after the reports I've been getting.

Taylor: Oh, yeah, I'm sure Brooke painted me out to be a complete basket case, didn't she?

Ridge: She's just concerned about Jack.

Taylor: No, she's not. She has one mission, and that's to ruin my life.

Ridge: Oh, Taylor, I don't think that's fair.

Taylor: Really?

Ridge: Mnh-mnh.

Taylor: So what happened to you and Ashley? I was just wondering about that, because I thought she was a wonderful woman. I thought she was exceptional. She was perfect for you, besides me. So what happened there? Do you still care about her?

Ridge: Yes, of course, I do.

Taylor: Mm-hmm.

Ridge: But, um...

Taylor: But if you got any sense in that handsome head of yours, you'd go back to her, because I'm telling you if you marry Brooke, you are going to be completely miserable for the rest of your life.

Brooke: Taylor, how dare you!

Ridge: (Sighs)

Bridget: Well, Dad, we had a wonderful evening together, and I'm hoping something comes out of it.

Eric: What? You're hoping that something comes out of it?

Bridget: It's complicated. You know as well as I do everything Nick has been through.

Eric: I know. Nick has been through a great deal. He really has. It's not him I'm worried about. I'm worried about him hurting you.

Bridget: Well, Dad, I know what I'm doing. We're taking this really slow, just one step at a time.

Eric: One step at a time, taking it really slow. You know what that sounds like? It sounds like code for "Bridget, this is cool, but I'm not really ready to commit."

Bridget: How could he be, Dad? He's not even divorced yet.

Eric: Well, then what are you doing there?

Bridget: Dad, uh... (sighs) is this about Mom? Because Mom has promised me that she's not interfering in my relationships again. I'd like to be a little excited about this. So be happy for me.

Nick: So I take it you're a basketball fan.

Katie: Kind of hard not to be growing up in L.A. Think fast.

Nick: Why are you doing this?

Katie: I'm trying to get you to open up your eyes, you big dope.

Nick: My eyes are open. They're open.

Katie: You know, if you wanted to spring for Laker tickets, I probably could be talked into going.

Nick: How did I get so lucky?

Katie: Are we on?

Nick: Remind me why you're here.

Katie: (Sighs) To get my sweater and to make sure you don't destroy Bridget's life.

Nick: You got your sweater. Bridget's fine. But you're still here.

Katie: I guess I couldn't pull myself away from your irresistible charm.

Rick: Taylor's been going through a pretty rough time right now. I'm just--I'm just there to support her.

Ashley: Well, it says a lot about the kind of man you are. Taylor's very lucky to have you on her side. I mean, honestly, who'd have ever thought that Brooke's son would be stepping up to the plate to back up Taylor?

Taylor: Oh, hey, Brooke, eavesdropping? How much did you hear?

Brooke: Plenty.

Ridge: Taylor stopped by--

Brooke: I know why she stopped by. How dare you try to undermine my engagement to Ridge.

Taylor: Well, that wasn't my intention. As if you haven't gone all over town telling everybody what a head case I am.

Brooke: Taylor, we all know that you're having a very difficult time right now.

Taylor: Oh, I know. That's exactly the way you phrased it, too, right?

Ridge: Ladies, let's not reopen world war ii.

Taylor: No, no, please, Ridge, don't candy-coat her behavior here. Because if you want to know what the root of the dysfunction in your family is, there it is. And if you marry her, you're just gonna have more of it, because this is how it always ends up--pain, misery, destruction, chaos.

Brooke: See--see what I'm talking about?

Taylor: That's exactly what it is.

Brooke: This is her state of mind. I mean, this is an absolutely crazy conversation.

Taylor: No, the only thing that would be crazy is if Ridge commits to you again, knowing full well that you are only wrapped up in the world of my child and his father. You are the only insane person standing in this room. That is what disordered people do.

Brooke: You're calling me insane? No, no, I am not the one...

Taylor: Everywhere they go, they cause chaos, chaos!

Ridge: Taylor, this is not gonna solve anything.

Brooke: Who became overwhelmed with rage and started drinking again!

Taylor: That's exactly what you do.

Brooke: You started having hallucinations and delusions.

Taylor: Don't push me. Get your hands off me.

Brooke: Stop it. You lost your child because of you, not because of me. You lost your child, because you're losing your mind!

Rick: Mom! Mom! Do not talk to Taylor like that.

Rick: Mom, this is insane. I'm not gonna stand here and let you berate Taylor like this.

Ridge: Rick, it wasn't really like that.

Brooke: Taylor was attacking me.

Taylor: No, I was just telling you how sick I am of you ruining everybody's lives. Why can't you see it? Why can't you just admit it? Your own daughter-- you did do that. You ruined two of her marriages, one to Deacon, the other one to Nick. And look what you did to me. You ruined my marriage to Ridge, and then you ruined that marriage to Nick. Really? And now you want to renege on the agreement you signed to leave my child alone?

Brooke: Stop it. No, that is not true.

Taylor: It is true. (Phone beeps)

Ridge: What? The whole shipment? I'll be right down. Emergency downstairs. I've got to handle this.

Rick: All right, just go do your thing. I will, um, I'll take care of these two.

Ridge: I don't want anyone leaving here in handcuffs or a body bag, okay?

Rick: Got it.

Brooke: Taylor, I know you're in pain, and I am terribly sorry.

Taylor: Oh, can it. All you want to do is take my child away from me.

Brooke: That is not true. You're not capable of taking care of a child, Taylor. You have irrational behavior, and you're drinking again.

Rick: Mom, Mom, please, don't you think Taylor's been through enough?

Taylor: It's okay. It's okay. Thank you. Thank you very much, Rick. I honestly don't know how you have put up with her all of these years. But you know what? I'm not your mother's only victim. It's your sister, too. Look at what she did to her. Really? Competing with your own daughter for a romantic relationship. Now I don't think that's insane. I think that is sick.

Eric: Of course, I want to be happy for you, honey. I want you to be happy. I'm just--I just don't want him to ht you. You know, you've suffered a lot of pain because of Nick in the past. And I'm concerned about his intentions towards you.

Bridget: And that's that supposed to mean?

Eric: (Sighs) honey, Nick didn't have a father when he was growing up, and--and he-- he practically grew up on an ocean tanker. Now where would he have learned how to treat a woman if he--if he knows at all? He's a loner. He's a cynic. He may not intend to hurt you, but--but I'm afraid he will. I have to really wonder if he can truly appreciate you. And I think maybe it might be better for both of you if he found somebody more like him to move on with.

Nick: Well, this has been special. You found out what you wanted to know. So it's time to go.

Katie: Actually, I didn't find out what I wanted to know.

Nick: (Whispering) She spent the night.

Katie: But what happens next?

Nick: That's a question I can't answer.

Katie: Why not?

Nick: Because I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen with me and Bridget next.

Katie: (Sighs) please, don't break her heart again.

Nick: Do you really think that I would do that?

Katie: Why do you keep acting like you have no control over your actions? Has my sister messed you up so bad that you can't make a decision on your own?

Nick: No, no, forget about your sister. Now her and Forrester can go off into the crimson sunset for all I care. I'm done with that. And I would never do anything with Bridget otherwise to hurt her.

Katie: Just love her. That's all she wants.

Nick: (Sighs) I do love her.

Katie: Enough to give her a second chance, to build a life with her?

Nick: (Sighs)

Bridget: Dad, I-I love that you're-- that you're here for me, but what I really need from you right now is just your support.

Eric: I don't think he can appreciate you the way you deserve to be appreciated. I don't think he's right for you.

Bridget: I don't need you to worry about me. Look, Mom is not gonna interfere this time. I want to be with him. I want to be with that baby. And I just want back what I had with him before. Can you just be happy for me?

Eric: Sure. I love you.

Bridget: I love you, too, Dad.

Katie: You haven't answered my question.

Nick: It's a big question.

Katie: (Sighs) you know, I never would have gotten involved in this if I didn't think that two people couldn't come together and--and rekindle some happiness, that you could be in a relationship with somebody who was totally committed to you, who loved you unconditionally, and maybe Bridget could have the same thing. What's the problem with that?

Nick: The problem, o, nosy one, is that I don't know if I can give Bridget what she wants and deserves.

Katie: Oh, God, you're so full of hot air.

Nick: And you're a pain in the ass. You ever wonder why you're single? It's 'cause you're too much like a guy.

Katie: (Gasps)

Nick: Maybe you oughta think about softening up a little bit, being a little less abrasive and controlling, you know, maybe a little bit more feminine. Maybe some kindness and a smile might help your cause.

Katie: I am plenty feminine and kind. I think you're just used to women who roll over so you can walk all over them. And it's not my fault that you don't know a good thing when it's standing right in front of you.

Nick: Okay, okay. (Clears throat) everything you say about Bridget is true. She's an incredible girl. She's wonderful. She's beautiful. And I'm lucky to have her. The truth is I don't want to let her down again, and I don't want to hurt her. And I don't know if we are right for each other.

Katie: So who do you think you're right for?

Nick: Well, what do I know? I mean, I'm--I'm gruff. I'm pigheaded. I'm very stubborn and stuck in my ways. I'm--I don't know. I'm a lot like--like--

Katie: Like me?

Brooke: It's true. I have made some mistakes with my daughter. But it has nothing to do with why you lost your child. The judge just didn't think that you could take care of Jack, because you were so focused on your obsession with me. And you're still consumed with your hatred of me.

Taylor: Oh. (Scoffs)

Rick: Mom, Mom, please, can--can we not do this?

Brooke: Why are you defending her?

Rick: Do you realize how many people you've hurt on your pursuit for your destiny? Who's your destiny, Mom? Is it Ridge? Is it Nick? Someone else? It doesn't matter. The point is you've hurt a lot of people and no one more than that woman.

Brooke: I am your mother. Why would you defend her like this?

Rick: You know why? Because she deserves it. She deserves my support. When I look at Taylor, I see a-a beautiful, wonderful, talented woman who's been brought to her knees.

Brooke: And I'm to blame for that?

Rick: No, I'm not here to blame you. I'm not here to blame anybody else, for that matter. I'm here, because someone has got to come to Taylor's defense. Mom, this woman has lost so much. But you know what? She hasn't lost her faith in people. She's never put herself before anybody else, especially those she cares about. As far back as I can remember, she--she always plays fair. And she treats people with respect and dignity. And somehow she loses out to you time and time again. Deliberate or not, Mom, you've taken everything from this woman and pushed her to the breaking point. And I don't blame her. This is a woman who has dedicated her entire life to helping others. And because of that, she should have everything that she's ever dreamed about. Something should finally go right for her. Something good, something wonderful should come into her life.

Brooke: (Sighs) Honey, it's admirable that you want to stand up for Taylor, but--

Rick: I'm not standing up for her because of admiration or--or charity or pity.

Brooke: No, of course not. You're defending her out of the goodness of your heart. I get it.

Rick: No, that's the thing. You don't. You don't get it. I'm defending her, because I care about her. She's all I think about. All I want to do is--is be with her and hold her. Taylor, I love you.

Brooke: Rick?

Brooke: Oh, my God. (Breathing heavily) Oh, my God. No!
