Brooke: Taylor, what happened with Jack was a miracle.

Taylor: No, what happened with Jack was a disaster.

Brooke: Sweet little boy. I just hope to God that she can love him.

Ridge: Morning.

Brooke: Good morning.

Ridge: Mmm. I thought we were sleeping in.

Brooke: Yeah, I couldn't sleep.

Ridge: Something on your mind, Logan?

Brooke: Mm-hmm.

Ridge: What?

Brooke: (Sighs contentedly) this.

Jackie: Nicky, I'm worried about Taylor.

Nick: You're a mother. That's what you do.

Jackie: (Sighs) she's living a nightmare-- raising the child of--of the woman that she hates most in this world. I mean, no woman, no matter how strong she is, can handle that.

Nick: She's hit a rough patch. She'll get through it.

Jackie: You're such a noble man, aren't you? I mean, you made a commitment to Taylor, and you want to stay true to your word. But what about staying true to your heart?

Nick: Mother, let this rest, please.

Jackie: I can't, Nicky, because you are not thinking clearly. You're not thinking about your son, and you need to, because as his father, it is your duty to protect him.

Nick: I've heard enough.

Jackie: You can't deny your feelings for Brooke, not to me you can't anyway, because I know she is your soul mate, and you know that no one can love Jack the way that Brooke-- his real mother--can. Nicky? You go to her. You go to her before she marries Ridge and it's too late.

Ridge: What's on your mind now, Logan?

Brooke: Nick and Taylor's little boy. (Sighs) I'm really worried about him, Ridge, and I can't get these feelings out of my mind.

Ridge: It's out of our hands.

Brooke: But Jack is an innocent victim in all of this. I mean, I can't help but think how this is affecting him.

Ridge: Nick and Taylor need to just handle things on their own. There's really nothing you can do to make things better.

Brooke: Yeah, well, what if there is? I'm just worried that Taylor's not gonna be able to take care of a little baby in her condition. We need to reach out to her. We need to help her.

Ridge: I just think we need to stay out of things. Just let Nick handle it.

Brooke: Well, I can't help but feel responsible for her pain. I mean, let's face it, she wouldn't be in pain if it weren't for me. I just need to talk to her, Ridge.

Ridge: That's not a good idea. You mean well, but it's not a good idea, Logan.

Brooke: I can't just sit back and do nothing.

Nick: How's my little fainter?

Taylor: Much better.

Nick: Good. You know, I'm sort of on the possessive side. You're way too beautiful to go fainting all over town.

Taylor: (Laughs) I had a lot of weird dreams last night.

Nick: Really?

Taylor: Mmm. I think everything's just been so overwhelming and-- I don't know. I know I haven't been the easiest to deal with lately.

Nick: Please. I'm just glad that you're feeling better.

Taylor: You're so amazing. You've been so supportive. I'm just sorry I've made such a mess of things.

Nick: Oh, come on. You haven't made a mess of anything. Please.

Taylor: You're being sweet.

Nick: No, I'm being serious. I mean it.

Taylor: I know that. That's why you're the most wonderful man in the world.

(Doorbell rings)

Brooke: Ohh, Jackie, hello.

Jackie: I know what's going on, Brooke, and we need to talk. We need to talk about Jack.

Brooke: So what's this all about?

Jackie: I know Jack is your son.

Brooke: You know?

Jackie: Yes. Nicky told me. He told me everything. And I know what's going on with Taylor.

Brooke: She's having a very difficult time with this.

Jackie: Ohh. That's an understatement. She can't handle it, Brooke. She can't handle knowing that Jack is your biological child.

Brooke: She's a wonderful mother, and she raised three amazing kids. She will persevere.

Jackie: No. No, she won't. These circumstances-- they are just too much for her to bear. It's affecting her relationship with Nicky, and it's affecting her ability to care for Jack. And I am scared for him, all right?

Brooke: No, Nick loves Taylor. He will protect her and their son. He's not gonna let anything happen to them.

Jackie: Well, of course he won't if he can prevent it. He loves his son. I know that. And he loves Taylor, but... not like he loves you. Oh, Brooke, you can't deny that there are still feelings between you and Nick.

Brooke: Nick and I had our chance. It didn't work out for us.

Jackie: But you can't deny that the feelings are still there, can you?

Brooke: Ohh, Jackie, I'm with Ridge now.

Jackie: But a bond like you and Nicky share-- that can't be broken.

Brooke: (Sighs heavily) Nick is with Taylor, and I'm with Ridge. We've both moved on.

Jackie: Yeah, are you sure about that?

Brooke: Yes, I am. (Sighs)

Jackie: Oh, Brooke, please. Please, I'm begging you, don't let this chance just slip away. Think of Jack. Think of all the love that you can give that child. Taylor--she's doing her best. Believe me, she's doing her best, but it's just a matter of time before she slips off the edge.

Brooke: Taylor is a strong woman. She will pull through this.

Jackie: And if she doesn't, who's gonna take the brunt of all of this pain? It's going to be Jack. It's gonna be that innocent little boy-- your little boy.

Brooke: He's not my little boy. Stop saying that.

Jackie: Yes, he is.

Brooke: He is Taylor's son.

Jackie: No.

Brooke: Jackie, please...

Jackie: No, no.

Brooke: Stop talking like this.

Jackie: He's not Taylor's. He's yours, Brooke. He's your child.

(Knock on door)

Ashley: Hey.

Ridge: Hey, ash.

Ashley: Have you had a chance to look at the new logo Paris sent?

Ridge: Not yet.

Ashley: Okay. Well, it needs to be approved by the end of the week.

Ridge: I'll take a look at it.

Ashley: You okay? You seem kind of down.

Ridge: (Sighs) I'm fine. I'm just concerned about Taylor. She's had a rough go of it the last while. She ran into Brooke at the Insomnia yesterday, and the two of them got into it. Taylor got so worked up she passed out.

Ashley: Is she all right?

Ridge: I don't think so.

Ashley: Well, having the child of your world's worst enemy is not the ideal situation.

Ridge: It's getting in the way of her ability to care for that child.

Ashley: I always thought that she was a very loving mother.

Ridge: Oh, she's a terrific mother. But this is really giving her a run for her money. Strong, controlled Taylor seems to be a thing of the past now. If only that egg mix-up hadn't happened, things would be very different.

Ashley: Well, now's Nick handling it?

Ridge: I think it's taking its toll on him and his marriage.

Ashley: He loves Taylor. At least they have that going for them.

Ridge: Yeah, but this is tough. I don't know if this is something that Nick and Taylor can ever recover from.

Taylor: Just knowing you love me unconditionally, that's-- that's really all I need.

Nick: (Laughs)

Taylor: I know I'll be able to push through this.

Nick: I know you will, too.

Taylor: I just-- I don't think I've ever been through anything like this, though. I just--I-I just want to be the best mother I can be to our son. That's all I want.

Nick: I know.

Taylor: N-ohh.

Nick: You're-- you're doing great. You really are.

Taylor: But what I want is--is for everything to be right for--for you and for me and for Jack. I-I just want it the way it should be. I want it to be full of love and stability and...

Nick: Sweetie, listen.

Taylor: Happiness. That's all I want.

Nick: It may take a little bit of time. You might have to give yourself a break.

Taylor: Thank you for being so amazing.

Nick: (Laughs)

Taylor: (Laughs) you know, that's what's gonna get me through this.

Nick: (Laughs)

Taylor: That's what's going to get us through this.

Nick: Well, the key word there is "us." You see these things?

Taylor: Mm-hmm.

Nick: It's a partnership, right? And we will get through this.

Taylor: You're my angel.

Taylor: Will you come over here and hold me? I just want to feel your arms around me. Please. Just hold me. .

Taylor: I know I haven't handled any of this very well. And I'm so ashamed of myself, the way I've treated you and the baby and-- (sniffles)

Nick: Hey, what are you talking about? We're fine.

Taylor: I don't feel like that. I-I don't feel like I-I've been a very good mother and a very good wife.

Nick: Oh, stop it.

Taylor: I feel like I'm failing at it.

Nick: No, you are an incredible mother, and you have been an incredible wife to me. You are strong and capable and intelligent and loving. And most importantly, you're incredibly sexy.

Taylor: Thank you for believing in me.

Nick: Well, I think you need to believe in you, 'cause if you do that, this'll all work out. And we're-- we're a partnership here, a team, right?

Taylor: (Laughs)

Nick: Don't forget we got the cutest shortstop in town.

Taylor: And he's why I'm going to get it together.

Nick: There.

Taylor: (Sighs) I'm the psychiatrist that knows every trick in the book, and yet I can't figure out how to help myself. (Laughs)

Nick: (Laughs)

Taylor: It's really scary. It's scary feeling like this. I-I just-- I feel so vulnerable. Would you make love to me?

Jackie: I-I-I'm just concerned for your well-being. That's all, Brooke.

Brooke: I appreciate that, Jackie, but I'm fine now.

Jackie: Fine? Fine isn't good enough, is it? I mean, I know you love Ridge, but think of all the pain that--that he's put you through over these years.

Brooke: Ridge and I have overcome our problems. We're happy.

Jackie: What about the Forresters? Have they made peace with you? You're just setting yourself up for a lifetime of suffering if you go back into that family again. And Stephanie-- God, Stephanie-- (sighs) I can't even imagine half of the evil that that witch has thrown in your way.

Brooke: Yeah, you have no idea.

Jackie: I would never treat you that way, Brooke. I would be honored to love you as my daughter-in-law.

Brooke: That's sweet, Jackie. Thank you.

Jackie: I love Taylor, too. I really do. She's a wonderful woman. But she can't make my son happy, not the way you can.

Brooke: Nick loves Taylor. And--and they're good together.

Jackie: Yes, that is true. They make a fine pair. But you, Brooke-- you are my son's passion. You are his love. I mean, don't you remember how good you were together, how happy you were together? It was just magical.

Brooke: That's over now.

Jackie: The only thing missing, the only thing was a child together. And now you have that child. You have the child that you always dreamed of.

Brooke: No, Jack is our son by blood only. It was a terrible mix-up in the lab.

Jackie: It was meant to be. And now that little boy needs you, Brooke. He needs his real mother.

Brooke: Taylor is his real mother.

Jackie: She's not. You are. And only you can give that little boy the love that he deserves. Brooke, be his mother. Please, be his mother.

Nick: (Exhales deeply)

Taylor: I think after the day I had yesterday, I really needed that. (Laughs) mmm.

Nick: I think after the day you had yesterday, I really needed that, too.

Taylor: Mmm.

Nick: (Exhales deeply)

Taylor: I don't know what it is. I have no idea what happens to me. When I see you with Brooke, it's just like, I don't know, all these emotions just rise up in me, and I-it's like I become another person.

Nick: Well, don't you think it's normal to be a little overwhelmed given the circumstances?

Taylor: Yeah, but it's just I want to feel normal again. I want--I want to stop feeling like this. I want to be me. I want to stop hurting. (Sniffles)

Nick: You know, honey, uh, it's gonna take some time. You just gotta be patient with yourself. We're gonna get through this. I promise.

Taylor: Okay.

Nick: Okay.

Taylor: I think it's time for coffee.

Nick: Coffee.

Taylor: Want any?

Nick: I would. Don't be gone too long, huh?

Taylor: I'll be right back.

Nick: Good.

Ashley: As a woman, I can completely understand why Brooke is concerned about this child. It's a natural instinct for a biological mother. Try to be patient with her.

Ridge: I'm trying. I just wish she would realize this is strictly a biological issue. She donated an egg, and it got mixed up. That child is not a part of her life, or at least he shouldn't be.

Ashley: Ridge, logic doesn't have anything to do with a mother's love for her child. It's an emotional thing.

Ridge: I hope to God Marone doesn't try to use this situation-- his test-tube baby-- to get back in there with Brooke. If he does, he's gonna have to deal with me.

Ashley: This is kind of ironic, isn't it? I mean, really? You dumped me, because you thought that you and Brooke were over the drama. You thought things were gonna be simple this time around and easy. Clearly, this has not been a walk in the park. I mean, things aren't going quite so smoothly for the two of you, are they?

Ridge: Brooke and I are committed to not letting this affect our relationship.

Ashley: I don't know what you really want from me. I mean, I'm your friend. And as your friend, I hope you and Brooke can find true happiness. But I have to admit, as you ex-lover, part of me hopes that you don't.

Nick: Hey, I wanted to call and give you an update.

Brooke: How's Taylor?

Nick: Uh, you know, she--she's doing better. It was a tough day for her yesterday, but she--she's finally coming around.

Brooke: Well, I'm glad that she's doing better, but I'm really worried about Jack. I mean, he's all that I can think about. I couldn't even sleep last night. Nick, I'm really worried about how this is going to affect him.

Nick: He's too young to know what's going on, you know? He's--he's asleep in his crib. He's a champ.

Brooke: Well, it's all I can do to keep myself from running over there and holding him in my arms.

Nick: I know it's hard for ya. But I do have to ask you to do your best to try and stay away.

Brooke: I am. I'm trying (sighs) but you know, it's killing me. (Exhales deeply) I mean, I really do ache for him.

Nick: I'm giving Jack all the love in the world. And--and Taylor's getting better by the minute.

Brooke: Yeah, well, what if she doesn't?

Nick: Well, she will. Everything's gonna work out. Taylor's a strong woman.

Brooke: I really do pray for her. But if she can't give Jack the love that he needs and be the kind of mother that he needs, then I'm not gonna just sit back and do nothing, because our little guy is just too important to me.
