Brooke: (Breathing heavily) Oh, my God. Taylor?

Woman: What's happening? Do you need help?

Brooke: I-I-I don't know. She was really upset, and she was having trouble breathing, and then she just-- just collapsed.

Woman: Has somebody called 911?

Taylor: Oh, my head. Ohh.

Brooke: There she is.

Taylor: Ow.

Brooke: Taylor? Taylor, are you okay? Maybe get some water.

Woman: Of course, yeah.

Taylor: No, I don't want any water.

Brooke: Yes.

Taylor: I want to go home.

Brooke: No, you're not gonna go home. An ambulance is on its way. A doctor really needs to check you out.

Taylor: Brooke, stop it. Don't make a big deal out of this.

Brooke: Okay. No ambulance. I'll take you home.

Taylor: No, no. I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm a doctor. I know if I'm okay, all right? Leave me alone.

Brooke: No. (Sighs heavily) All right, look, I'm not gonna let you drive. I'll still take you, okay?

Taylor: (Sighs)

Brooke: I'm gonna take you straight home... to Nick.

Taylor: (Scoffs) (Sighs)

Ridge: Yeah, thanks, Thorne. I'll pick the kids up in the morning. Oh, nothing really special. Just some much-needed time alone. Yeah, you, too. And please let us return the favor for you. Okay? Talk to you soon. Bye.

Ridge: Ah, wine, candles. All I need is Brooke.

Jackie: What are you gonna do, Nicky, if Taylor can't handle it?

Nick: She will handle it.

Jackie: You don't know that. Everything that you're describing to me points to a woman who's on a very jagged edge. Can--can we be honest? She has never, ever been very good at handling stress, especially when it comes to Brooke. And now you expect her to handle the fact that Brooke is the biological mother of her child?

Nick: Well, that is something you don't have to concern yourself with, Mother.

Jackie: Oh, yes, I do, because my grandson's well-being is at stake here. If Taylor isn't capable of taking care of him, then you need to be prepared to do something about it, because he needs a mother.

Nick: He has a mother.

Jackie: But if Brooke is out there, and she is just willing--

Nick: Let it go right there, Mother. Taylor's my wife. She is the mother of my son.

Jackie: There's only so much a person can take.

(Door opens)

Nick: Wh-what's going on?

Brooke: Taylor collapsed.

Jackie: What?

Brooke: She and I were at the Insomnia and--

Taylor: I'm fine. It was nothing.

Nick: What happened exactly?

Brooke: Taylor and I were talking, and she--

Taylor: It--it was-- it was nothing. We-we were talking. I got a little worked up, and I passed out for a couple of seconds. It--it was nothing. It was no big deal.

Jackie: No big deal? Tay--Taylor, we have to get you to the hospital.

Taylor: No. No, that is not necessary, really. It was just like a mild panic attack. I've seen them a million times. I know exactly what one is.

Jackie: Okay, well, I am gonna call Bridget, and she will come over, and she will call a doctor, and then--

Taylor: No, do not call a doctor. Do not call the hospital, and positively do not call Bridget, okay? (Sighs)

Taylor: Well, Brooke, thank you for the ride, although I could have gotten myself home.

Brooke: I was happy to do it.

Nick: You know, you've gotta be exhausted. Maybe you oughta lay down, get some rest, huh?

Taylor: Yeah, I will.

Nick: Okay.

Jackie: Come on, I'll--I'll--I'll help you.

Taylor: (Sighs)

Brooke: Well... (sighs) I guess I better get going. If there's anything else I could do to help--

Taylor: No, I think you've covered just about all of the bases. Thank you.

Nick: What happened?

Brooke: She saw us at the Insomnia, and she really flipped out. See, I tried to explain to her as nicely as I could that I wasn't chasing after you, but she didn't want to hear it. She got so worked up that she was hyperventilating, and she passed out right in my arms. You know, she's not emotionally stable right now, and I'm worried. You should be, too.

Nick: I appreciate the help. I'm gonna head upstairs. I'll--I'll see ya.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Jackie: (Sighs) (sighs)

Jackie: It must be torment for you, but nothing compared to the torment that Taylor must be going through. I mean, carrying Brooke's baby for all those months, giving birth to a child that you share with Brooke-- I mean, every time she looks at Jack's face, she sees Brooke.

Jackie: Have you thought what might happen to Taylor if the torment is too much for her? I mean, she's not gonna be able to be a good mother. She's not gonna be able to be a good wife. You--your lives are gonna be hell. What's gonna happen to that poor baby?

Jackie: (Exhales deeply)

Taylor: (Sniffles)

Jackie: It's going to be all right, you know. You just need to relax. That's all.

Taylor: I know. Thank you. You must think, uh, I've lost it.

Jackie: No. I'm thinking... that you are the mother of my grandchild, and I love and support you.

Taylor: I appreciate that.

Jackie: But Taylor, I am concerned. You've gotta take care of yourself. I mean, you have an infant. And that baby needs you to be strong. After all, you're the only mother that he has.

Taylor: Yeah, I know.

Jackie: And there is no one else who can take care of him and love him as you can. So please, sweetheart, whatever it is that's got you in this state, try to remember that.

(Knock on door)

Nick: Hey. Everything okay?

Taylor: Is Brooke gone?

Nick: She is. Mother, you think you could give us a minute?

Jackie: Gone. I'm gone.

Nick: How you doing?

Taylor: Nick, I just-- I really-- I need to rest, okay? I-I just-- I don't want to talk right now, okay?

Nick: All right. I'll be downstairs if you need anything. Okay.

Taylor: (Sniffles)

Taylor: (Sniffles) (crying)

Ridge: There you are. I was just about to, uh, start drinking this wonderful wine without you.

Brooke: (Laughs) Ridge, what's all this?

Ridge: Oh, we're celebrating.

Brooke: We are?

Ridge: Yeah.

Brooke: What are we celebrating?

Ridge: My mother's recent memory of her shooting, for one.

Brooke: Ah.

Ridge: Your dad's newfound freedom, for anther. I think that's cause for celebration, don't you?

Brooke: Yes. Yes, I think so, too.

Ridge: I gotta tell you...

(Glasses clink)

Ridge: This has been one hell of a relief. I'm very glad your dad did not shoot my mother, 'cause something like that can definitely put a strain on a relationship.

Jackie: Shall I take Taylor a cup?

Nick: No, no, no, let's leave her alone for now.

Jackie: Yes, you're probably right. She seems awfully delicate.

Nick: Mother, I know what's on your mind. And you know that I don't want to hear it.

Jackie: But you're going to. It is perfectly obvious that Taylor is not dealing with this, not well at all.

Nick: Mother.

Jackie: It is compromising her health.

Nick: Mother!

Jackie: It is compromising your son's health.

Nick: My son's health? Jack's not in any kind of danger.

Jackie: Please. The woman passed out. She collapsed. Thank God she was in a public place. Thank God she wasn't holding Jack. I mean, what happens the next time she has one of these panic attacks? How can you be sure she's not gonna be alone with your son? Are you really willing to take that chance? (Sighs) Taylor is struggling right now to keep it together, and I pray for all your sakes that she finds a way. But it shouldn't be here, and it shouldn't be when she's taking care of my grandson. It's a recipe for disaster-- for you, for everybody, for the baby.

Nick: I don't know what you expect me to do.

Jackie: (Sighs) God, I don't know either. All I do know is that you have a little life who obviously is entirely in your care. Every decision that you make from now on has to be for him. It's about him. It's for him. You've got to live for him. Oh, God, believe me, I know what it's like to live for a son who depends on you to make all the right choices. It's a huge responsibility. (Sighs) and I'm just so scared right now, Nicky, that Taylor isn't capable of doing any of that. I wonder if Jack doesn't need his other mother. Hate me for saying this. I wonder if he doesn't need Brooke.

Ridge: You were later than I thought you'd be. Something going at work?

Brooke: No. But something did happen.

Ridge: What? What's wrong?

Brooke: Uh, it's Taylor and the baby.

Ridge: Oh, come on. Are we really gonna talk about Nick and his brood right now, let this nice romantic mood go to waste?

Brooke: I don't really want to, but this is serious, Ridge. I'm really concerned about Taylor.

Ridge: What happened?

Brooke: She saw Nick and me talking at the Insomnia, and then when Nick left, she confronted me.

Ridge: Oh, Brooke, just back up a minute. Let's, um--

Brooke: Oh, wait, wait, don't you start. It was just a chance encounter. Nick and I weren't meeting there. I mean, you do trust me on that, don't you?

Ridge: Of course, I do.

Brooke: Okay. Well, that's the difference between you and Taylor, because she flew off the handle. She accused me of following him, and she told me to stay away.

Ridge: Okay, so she told you to stay away. She's been under a lot of stress lately. I mean, don't hold-- hold that against her.

Brooke: No, I-I think it's a lot more than stress. She's really losing it. And I'm really afraid for that little baby. I don't think she should be in charge of him.

Ridge: Oh, Brooke, come on.

Brooke: Ridge, she worked herself up so much that she was hyperventilating, and she even just passed out in my arms.

Ridge: Passed out? Oh, my God. What--

Brooke: She was going on and on about my intentions with her son, with her husband. It was awful. I mean, she just worked herself up into a tizzy. She had a meltdown.

Ridge: Is she all right now?

Brooke: Well, we called the ambulance, and it was on its way, but she didn't want to have anything to do with that. So I drove her home, and she's okay now. She's with Nick and Jackie. Still, I'm just--I'm worried. I don't think she's ever going to be able to accept me as the biological mother of her son. I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm really concerned about this. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. .

Ridge: Of course, you're concerned. I am, too. It sounds like Taylor needs a lot of help right now.

Brooke: Yes, she does.

Ridge: And she'll get it from her husband. Look, I don't exactly trust Nick on a lot of issues, but I do know he's gonna take care of his wife. Don't you agree?

Brooke: Yes, I do. But the baby is--

Ridge: The baby is gonna be very loved and cared for by his family. Look, if Taylor seems like she's, uh, going through a very emotional time, which it seems like she is, I still have every confidence that Nick's gonna make sure that that baby is well taken care of. His mother's gonna help, as well, as well as Phoebe. Phoebe's been over there a couple night a week the last while.

Brooke: Oh, that's true.

Ridge: Look, I more than anyone know how strong Taylor is. This has been a very, very unusual, extraordinary time for her. But she is Jack's mother, and she's gonna love and cherish him just like she does Thomas, Steffy, Phoebe.

Brooke: You're right. I know you're right.

Ridge: Of course, I am.

Brooke: (Giggles)

Ridge: Aren't I always?

Brooke: Well, almost always.

Ridge: (Laughs) look, let's not talk about any of this anymore. Look around. I wanted this to be a very romantic night for us.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Ridge: And Hope and R.J. are at Thorne's. So...

Brooke: So we should take advantage of it.

Ridge: Yes, we should very much take advantage of it.

Brooke: (Laughs)

Ridge: Besides, I have something very serious I want to talk to you about.

Brooke: Hmm. What is it?

Ridge: Making an honest man out of me.

Brooke: A wedding?

Ridge: Yeah, we've been planning one, right? All this other stuff gets in the way-- my mother getting shot, your dad going to jail.

Brooke: We've had to put things on hold for a while.

Ridge: Okay, well, we no longer have to put anything on hold anymore. All we have to do is start our future life together from this moment on.

Jackie: I'm not trying to be a home wrecker, Nicky, I swear. It's just that I believe that what really bound you to Taylor was the fact that she could give you the child that you so desperately wanted.

Nick: And I love her.

Jackie: I know you love her. (Sighs heavily) But the fact is that Jack is not her son. He's Brooke's son. And no matter what the circumstances-- your marriage to Taylor, Brooke's relationship with Ridge-- the fact is that this child is in this world, in your lives, and you and Brooke need to deal with what that means.

Nick: I don't want to get into this right now.

Jackie: We will get into it right now, because a child's welfare is at stake. I know you love Taylor. I know you don't want to let her down, and that is so righteous. But now's not the time to be righteous, honey. It's the time to be selfish.

Nick: Selfish? Mother, you just told me that I have to live for him.

Jackie: Exactly. You need to be selfish for him. He needs you. Your ultimate duty is to him.

Nick: (Sighs)

Jackie: Taylor's trapped in a living hell right now. How fair is it to keep her trapped? I mean, every day she faces the reality that she bore the child of a woman she despises. What kind of life is that for her? What kind of life is that for your child? He needs a mother who will love him and care for him unconditionally. And the only woman that can do that is Brooke.

Nick: Stop it, Mother. Stop it.

Jackie: Nicky, Brooke is your passion. She is your ultimate partner. I'm begging you-- I'm begging you, please, go after her now before she commits to Ridge again. If you don't do this for you, then do it for your son, because he needs her, Nicky. He needs her. And deep down, I know you need her, too.
