Ridge: Looks like you and your mother are off the hook. Stephen Logan's been arrested for my mother's shooting.

Nick: Huh. I didn't know we were on the hook.

Ridge: Doesn't it worry you, Nick, the way your mother left the country right after our showing?

Nick: She had some business to take care of.

Ridge: The "M" line?

Nick: She's very excited about it.

Ridge: Excited like skydiving without a parachute? You guys couldn't make a success of Forrester Creations. What do you expect to do with Spectra?

Nick: I guess you'll just have to wait and see. I gotta go. I got a son at home.

Ridge: That's actually another reason I'm here. Cute kid. I'm glad he's doing better. But you have to stop waving him in front of Brooke like a carrot.

Brooke: Thanks for letting us know, Storm. Tell him we said good night.

Katie: Dad?

Brooke: He doesn't have to spend the night in jail.

Katie: Well, that's almost good news.

Brooke: No, it'd be good news if the charges were dropped.

Katie: Yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen.

Brooke: We have to stay positive, Katie.

Katie: They found the gun in dad's hotel room.

Brooke: Dad said he didn't shoot Stephanie.

Katie: Yeah. Well, dad says a lot of things, like "I love you, kids" and "depend on me" and "I'll always be there for you."

Brooke: I know. I know our history, and I really have no reason to believe him, but I do.

Katie: Is that what you're gonna tell Ridge? You two have already argued about this, haven't you?

Brooke: (Sighs)

Katie: Brooke, you cannot let this situation come between you. You're finally back on track. You're planning a wedding. You're raising the kids. R.J.--Having his parents under the same roof-- I mean, nothing is more important than that.

Brooke: Ridge and I both know it's important, Katie. We're gonna handle things.

Katie: Our father has been accused of shooting Ridge's mother!

Brooke: Yes, I know, and we're going to deal with that, among other things, important things. (Sighs)

Katie: Other things, Brooke?

Brooke: R-Ridge and I are committed to each other. We're not gonna let anything get in our way.

Katie: Okay.

Brooke: We've faced serious challenges before.

Katie: I can't really think of anything more serious than someone shooting his mother.

Brooke: Well, that's out of our hands.

Katie: So there's something else?

Brooke: Yeah. I-I can't really talk about it.

Katie: But you want to. I can tell. You're stressed out, and it's not just about dad. What is it?

Brooke: (Sighs) it's, uh-- it's Nick and Taylor's son.

Katie: Jack?

Brooke: He's mine.

Katie: I, um-- I-I don't--I don't understand.

Brooke: Well, I know. There was a-a mix-up in the lab, and it was my egg and their anonymous donor. I am Jack's biological mother.

Katie: (Gasps)

Ashley: I can't comment on that. The investigation is still ongoing. No. Look, if the Forrester family wants to make a statement, I'm sure you'll be notified. (Telephone rings)

Ashley: Would you like to talk about our latest line? Okay, I guess not.

(Rings)

Ashley: Ashley Abbott. No comment. Ugh!

Phoebe: Are you getting any work done?

Ashley: (Sighs) I think a couple of buyers have managed to get through. You know, this collection is a huge success, not that any of these reporters care.

Phoebe: They just want to talk about my grandma?

Ashley: Yeah. How is she?

Phoebe: Better, yeah.

Ashley: She's a very strong person.

Phoebe: Yeah, she's stubborn. She'll be glad to know you're handling things here.

Ashley: Well, I am happy to help.

Phoebe: Well, if you need a break, I can always say "no comment" for a while.

Ashley: That's sweet, but I don't mind. Um, it keeps me busy.

Phoebe: From thinking about my dad?

Ashley: Your father will always be very special to me, but I have spent far too much of my life carrying around torches for unavailable men, believe me.

Phoebe: You still have feelings for him.

Ashley: (Laughs) Well, maybe I do. Look, I knew what i was getting myself into, okay? Everybody warned me that your father's "destiny" was with Brooke.

Phoebe: Yeah, but you didn't believe them, or else you wouldn't have gotten involved with him.

Ashley: I was wrong.

Phoebe: I don't think it's destiny, and Rick didn't either, actually. It's--it's more like a habit.

Ashley: Yeah. Well, it's the same result, right? Anyway, I'm fine.

Phoebe: Well, if you're not, you don't have to pretend like you are. I mean, I'm--I'm not denying that we've had issues, but you made my dad really happy.

Ashley: Thank you for telling me that. I actually did think that we were gonna have a pretty wonderful life together.

Phoebe: Well, he did, too. I mean, I-I hope you know that. Dad was so excited about marrying you.

Ashley: Hmm... until Brooke convinced him that she was completely over Nick.

Phoebe: Does dad really think they were gonna get back together? I mean, my mom and Nick have a baby together. That's crazy.

Ashley: I don't know. I don't know. Whatever the connection is or was between Nick and Brooke, I'm sure it's over for good now.

Nick: Did she give you this? No. You went through her things, didn't you?

Ridge: Did you ask her to hide it, Nick?

Nick: No. By seeing you in the office, I can see why she would feel she needed to.

Ridge: You're not helping Brooke. This is not what she needs.

Nick: It's a photo, Forrester.

Ridge: It's a connection.

Nick: She's gonna have a connection to that boy, photo or no photo. She's allowed her feelings, no matter how insecure they make you.

Ridge: She signed the paper, Nick. She gave up her relationship with him.

Nick: Legally.

Ridge: Do you consider Jack to be Taylor's son?

Nick: Jack is Taylor's son.

Ridge: Have you made that clear to Brooke?

Nick: She made that clear to us.

Ridge: I heard Brooke call Jack her child.

Nick: I don't know. Maybe it was a slip of the tongue.

Ridge: Maybe. Or maybe this is more difficult for Brooke than she's letting on. Are you deliberately stoking her interest in Jack, hoping it'll revive her interest in you?

Nick: We're done here.

Ridge: Oh, come on, Nick. You haven't thought about raising your son with Brooke?

Nick: I said we're done.

Ridge: I'm not accusing. I'm just asking.

Nick: Okay. The answer's no.

Ridge: Deliberate or not, you're leading Brooke on, and it's gotta stop. You're a dad now, Nick. It's what you always wanted, isn't it-- a stable marriage, a family? Don't screw it up.

Brooke: Nick and Taylor wanted this baby more than anything.

Katie: So you signed the papers giving him up?

Brooke: The same form that the anonymous donor signed.

Katie: After you gave him your bone marrow?

Brooke: Yes, and that's when I found out, when Bridget called me to come down to the hospital.

Katie: Wow, you, uh, must have been stunned.

Brooke: Well, not just me.

Katie: Nick and Taylor had no idea?

Brooke: Nick knew it might be possible, but he wasn't sure. And Taylor had no idea.

Katie: (Sighs) I-I can't even imagine what that must have been like for the three of you.

Brooke: Mm, the four of us. I had to tell Ridge.

Katie: How did he handle it?

Brooke: (Sighs heavily) It was quite a blow.

Katie: Yeah, I can imagine. You and Nick have a child now.

Brooke: Well, everybody felt better once I signed the papers.

Katie: Including you?

Brooke: He's not my son.

Katie: But that's not my question.

Brooke: I made the right decision, Katie. I'm not second-guessing myself.

Katie: Yeah, but I can tell you're still thinking about Jack. I know what kind of mother you are.

Brooke: (Scoffs) but I'm not his mother. Why do I have to keep saying that?

Katie: To whom? To Ridge or to yourself?

Brooke: Ridge saw the photo that Nick gave me of Jack, and he got upset.

Katie: Because of a photo?

Brooke: Well, that's not the only reason. (Sighs) I slipped a few times and called Jack my child.

Katie: Oh.

Brooke: But Ridge isn't jealous. He's just concerned for me.

Katie: Should he be?

Brooke: Look, I don't want to worry Ridge, but I am concerned about Jack.

Katie: Why? I thought you said he was doing better.

Brooke: No, he is. But I don't know if Taylor's giving him the love that he needs. I'm afraid that she's not able to bond with him, because he's a part of me. Now if that's true, how can I just stand by and not do anything? (Sighs)

Brooke: I'm not passing judgment on Taylor. She's a wonderful mother. She raised three incredible kids. But if she can't connect with Jack--

Katie: Well, did Nick tell you that?

Brooke: He said that it was an issue, but it's getting better.

Katie: Okay, you and Nick are discussing the baby?

Brooke: No, it's not like that.

Katie: Well, you wanted to have a child with Nick. Now you have one.

Brooke: Nick and Taylor are Jack's parents. Ridge and I have a son--R.J.

Katie: But you're still worried about Jack?

Brooke: (Sighs heavily) yes, okay, I am worried about him. I mean, I don't really know how I should feel in this kind of situation. What would be appropriate? What would be normal? I-I don't know. Yes, maybe I am overreacting. Yeah, I criticized Taylor to Nick about her giving up on her breast-feeding.

Katie: No, you didn't?

Brooke: Yes, I did. I know, I overstepped. I wasn't thinking.

Katie: Your maternal instincts were kicking in.

Brooke: Well, I owe them an apology. I realize that now. (Sighs)

Brooke: (Sighs) (phone rings)

Woman: Marone residence.

Brooke: Hi. Uh, is Taylor there?

Woman: Who's calling, please?

Brooke: This is Brooke Logan. Who am I speaking with? (Baby crying)

Woman: This is Anya.

Brooke: Oh, uh, well, I can hear that Taylor's really busy with Jack. He sounds kind of fussy. L-look, just tell her that I'll call back later. Or she can call me.

Anya: Oh, n-no here, no here.

Brooke: You can't hear me?

Anya: No Marones here.

Brooke: Oh. Are you his nurse? Is Jack sick?

Anya: I will tell you called.

Brooke: I think something's wrong.

Katie: What is it?

Brooke: That woman-- I-I-I could hear Jack crying in the background, and she wouldn't put Taylor on the phone. She said sheas gone. But Taylor wouldn't leave without--

Katie: What woman?

Brooke: (Sighs heavily) I don't know who it was. I-I couldn't recognize her voice. But th--this is really strange. I'm--I gonna call Nick. (Sighs) (scoffs) oh, God. Great, it's his voice mail. That's it. I-I'm going over there.

Katie: Brooke, come on. Calm down.

Brooke: No. She left Jack with some stranger. Nick isn't even home. This is wrong. I'm gonna go over there and make sure he's okay.

Katie: (Sighs)

Ashley: You checking up on me?

Ridge: Oh. What? Whew.

Ashley: It's okay. I'm not offended. I know all about the family business. We Abbotts turn micromanagement into an extreme sport.

Ridge: I just needed someplace to think.

Ashley: Well, good luck thinking around here. The phone hasn't stopped ringing.

Ridge: Oh, Ashley, thank you for handling that for us.

Ashley: Sure. I don't mind pitching in.

Ridge: Probably would have felt differently if that had happened a few weeks ago.

Ashley: Oh, you see, I still don't know too many people in L.A., so I'm in no position to hold a grudge.

Ridge: I wouldn't blame you if you did.

Ashley: I've survived bigger disappointments.

Ridge: Just when you think you have everything you need in life, it throws you a curveball that hits you right upside the head.

Nick: Hey. Shh, shh, shh... hey, buddy, what's up? What's going on?

Anya: He cries.

Nick: Oh, he does. Oh, come here. Maybe he's hungry. Want to go in the kitchen, get a snack with me?

Jack: (Crying)

Nick: Are those bottles still in the fridge, do you know?

Anya: Just fed. Not hungry.

Nick: Oh, he's not?

Anya: Time for bath.

Nick: Oh, really? Okay. Shh, shh, shh. All right. Well, here. Well, why don't you go take care of the bath then, and I'll take care of my stomach, okay? Shh. Okay, it'll be all right. Love you, Jack. (Knock on door)

Brooke: (Sighs exasperatedly)

Nick: Brooke?

Brooke: Where's Jack?

Nick: Hey. He's--he's upstairs.

Brooke: Well, how long have you been here?

Nick: I just got here.

Brooke: An--and who's with the baby?

Nick: The nanny. She took him up for a bath.

Brooke: Ohh, God.

Nick: What are you doing here?

Ashley: Okay, what's wrong? I heard your mom was doing better.

Ridge: She is.

Ashley: But you're not?

Ridge: (Sighs) they arrested Stephen Logan.

Ashley: And that's bad news?

Ridge: Good and bad.

Ashley: Oh, right, because it complicates your relationship with Brooke.

Ridge: Complicated is what we do best.

Ashley: Yeah, well, you know what? It doesn't have to be that way this time, does it?

Ridge: Is that a vote of confidence?

Ashley: I know it's weird, okay? But I'm just saying that whatever Brooke's father allegedly did-- it doesn't have to affect your relationship with her, okay?

Ridge: Oh, I got a lot going on in my life right now and not much of it really great.

Ashley: Except you're getting married. Hello.

Ridge: Yeah, well, that has to be postponed for a while.

Ashley: Because of your mother's shooting. Don't worry. I'm sure you and Brooke will be walking down that aisle soon enough. Hey, Ridge, I have accepted your relationship with Brooke. You need to know that.

Ridge: How's Abby? I miss her.

Ashley: She misses you, too.

Ridge: I'd love to see her, if that's possible.

Ashley: I think it is.

Ridge: Kids are so innocent. They shouldn't be drawn into their parents' problems.

Ashley: And hey, that brings us right back to the advice I gave you about Brooke's dad. It's not gonna be easy for you to overcome what happened to your mom, but I know you can do it. And God knows Brooke fought really hard to get you back, so I don't think she's gonna do anything to risk losing you now.

Brooke: Jack's okay?

Nick: He's fine.

Brooke: Are you sure?

Nick: I'm sure. I was just holding him. He's a little cranky, but he went upstairs. What's this all about?

Brooke: (Scoffs) well, I-I tried calling you on your cell phone, but you weren't picking up. Wh-uh, Jack's all right. That's what matters. So I should go.

Nick: Hang on a second. Jack's fine. Why wouldn't he be?

Brooke: When I called earlier, some stranger answered the phone and said that Taylor wasn't there, and I heard Jack crying in the background. So I was really worried, and I rushed over here. It was all a mistake. (Sighs)

Nick: I don't think it was a mistake at all. Worrying about that boy might not be a mistake. Sit down.

Brooke: I-I didn't recognize who picked up the phone. She had a very heavy accent.

Nick: She's the new nanny. Her name is Anya.

Brooke: I didn't realize that you had hired somebody.

Nick: Well--

Brooke: I could have recommended a good service.

Nick: Well, it's nice of you, but Taylor had to leave town in a bit of a hurry.

Brooke: She left town?

Nick: Yeah.

Brooke: But the baby's so young. He was sick.

Nick: Her father had chest pains, was hospitalized.

Brooke: Oh.

Nick: She was worried it was a heart attack.

Brooke: Is he okay?

Nick: He's fine. He's fine.

Brooke: So she's gonna come back?

Nick: She'll be back as soon as she can.

Brooke: Oh. That's why Jack was crying so much, 'cause he misses his mommy. (Sighs heavily) wow, totally misjudged this whole situation. (Clears throat) I'm sorry. Taylor left town, didn't take Jack.

Nick: (Scoffs) traveling, you know, would tax his immune system. So she thought it was best--

Brooke: Oh, no, no. Of course. She did the right thing. She was thinking about Jack.

Nick: It looks like you were, too.

Brooke: (Sighs)

Jack: (Crying)

Nick: There he is.

Anya: I tried the bath. He's still crying.

Nick: Oh, that's all right. I'll take him. There you go. Come here, buddy. Yeah, oh, oh. I got him. Thanks.

Jack: (Crying)

Nick: There you go. Oh, I know, I know. It's so hard.

Brooke: Can I try? I never had a chance to hold him before.

Jack: (Crying)

Nick: Shh.

Brooke: Oh, it's okay. It's okay. Hi. It's okay. What? It's okay.

Nick: It's all right, Jack.
