Bridget: Carl, were you cleaning the lab the night the Marone's were here?

Carl: Who else?

Bridget: Then, you know whose eggs weren't used in the fertilization?

Carl: They're going to let lowly Carl Ferrot handle that stuff?

Bridget: Okay, but you know who's eggs they were.

Carl: Shh.

Bridget: What?

Carl: I hear something. Shh.

Bridget: Oh, my God.

Carl: Well, you saw those lab techs. They don't want me speaking with you.

Lab tech: Carl, were you looking for me?

Carl: Have I ever been looking for you, sir? I'll meet you.

Bridget: Okay, where?

Carl: How about Cafe Ruse? You like that place.

Bridget: I -- how about the parking lot, Carl?

Carl: Let's be honest. You should eat more.

Bridget: Fine, Cafe Ruse. How soon?

Carl: I can't go like this.

Bridget: An hour?

Carl: Well, is that what you're going to wear?

Bridget: One hour, Carl. One.

Ridge: You talk to Rick?

Phoebe: Yeah, we had our first serious fight. Or third or fourth.

Ridge: Did he tell you he came by to see me?

Phoebe: No. No, I'm glad though.

Ridge: He wasn't. Sweetie, I know you read the newspapers. I know you've probably heard the name Grant Chambers. What do you know about him?

Phoebe: I know he was married to Brooke, right?

Ridge: Yeah, your mom and I have tried to shield you guys from all of this.

Phoebe: You don't have to worry about that now, Daddy.

Ridge: But I do. See, that incident is why I'm being charged with first-degree murder here. And that's why I made some very stupid mistakes the night Shane died.

Phoebe: Now you have a really good lawyer, right? So, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ridge: Yes, and she's going to ask the court to look at that case with Grant again. I confessed to shooting him, sweetheart, but I didn't do it.

Phoebe: Well, dad, why did you confess?

Ridge: Because I thought what would happen if the truth came out, would be a lot worse than what would happen to me.

Phoebe: So -- so you knew who did it?

Ridge: Yeah, I do. It was Rick.

Stephanie: Christine, this is from the county of Los Angeles.

Christine: Great. The response to my subpoena for Shane McGrath's medical records. Okay. Well, a few visits to the emergency room.

Taylor: What about county mental health records?

Christine: No. No contact.

Stephanie: What if we could produce someone who actually heard him say that he wanted to kill himself? That he was suicidal?

Christine: Well, it wouldn't hurt. But who?

Brooke: Right now, all we have is ridge's word.

Christine: And before that carries any weight, we have to prove that he's telling the truth about the Chambers' shooting.

Taylor: Well, I'm willing to talk to Rick. That's why I'm here. But they way it went in my office, the other day, it --

Rick: Whoa. Is this an ambush?

Christine: Pretty much.

Taylor: Rick, we all regret how this bomb was dropped on you about Grant Chambers. Ridge more than anyone --

Rick: No, no, no, no. I should be calling a shrink on the four of you. So, suddenly Ridge claims that he lied to protect me. And instead of saying, "Ridge why should we believe you?" You're all saying, "yeah, okay fine. We'll buy that." Let me ask you a question -- did any of you actually see me shoot Grant Chambers?

Taylor: No.

Rick: If I was on trial for it today, would any of you be able to get up on the stand and say that I did it?

Brooke: I could.

Rick: How can you say that, mom?

Brooke: Rick, you're not the same person you were then.

Rick: Oh, really? Same DNA, same birth certificate.

Brooke: You had a difficult childhood. You were unhappy when I married Grant. And you really missed your father.

Rick: Mom, a lot of people have unhappy childhoods, and don't result to gunfire. I happen to be one of those people. Are you that sure you know what happened?

Brooke: Yes.

Rick: Okay, are you sure that Ridge didn't pay Grant off to say it was me?

Brooke: Ridge wouldn't do that.

Rick: Why not? Stephanie would. I mean, Stephanie would write me a check today if I would say that I remember shooting Grant Chambers.

Stephanie: Well, if I had raised you, you would have had a happy childhood. Because I wouldn't have had a brand new husband dancing in every month. No wonder you're disturbed.

Taylor: Stephanie --

Rick: Dis -- I'm disturbed now? I'm disturbed because I won't say what you want me to say?

Stephanie: I think you resent Ridge so much, you won't even make a decent effort to --

Rick: I did make a decent effort! I did make an effort, Stephanie. I got a gun and I held it in my hands. By the way, I learned that you actually gave this gun to my mom as a gift. What, do you have guns lying around that you give away for birthdays and anniversaries?

Stephanie: I don't remember anything like that.

Rick: The point is, I got a gun, I held it, and I tried to remember and envision pointing a gun at someone. And firing a gun at someone. Taylor, I'm sorry. I didn't have some movie moment where it all came back to me and I had flashes of the gun going off and Grant dropping. It did not happen! So, isn't it possible -- is it possible that you and my mom could be the ones in denial and not me?

Phoebe: Rick? He's not the type of person who would do something like that.

Ridge: Sweetie, Rick was young. It was a long time ago. To him, a gun was probably just a cartoon item. A toy. When he finally realized that it was actually serious, it was real blood. It was too much of a shock for him to even want to remember.

Phoebe: Okay, but -- okay, if that's how it happened --

Ridge: I want you to know the truth. This is the truth and I wanted to make sure you heard it from me first.

Phoebe: Right, okay. But why did you say that you did it? I mean if Rick was just a kid, he wouldn't have gone to jail or anything.

Ridge: Yeah, he would have sweetie. They would have taken him out of his home. And would have put him into juvenile detention.

Phoebe: You did it for Brooke. So she wouldn't lose him.

Ridge: Rick and Bridget had it rough enough as kids. Grant spoke on my behalf. All I got was probation and a warning. I had no idea it was going to come back to haunt me the way it has.

Phoebe: And now you regret it?

Ridge: No. If I had it to do over again, I'd do the very same thing.

Bridget: Hi, Carl. I'm so sorry I'm late.

Carl: No, you're perfect. Isn't that the dress you wore to your med school graduation dinner dance?

Bridget: Maybe.

Carl: Of all the dresses I've seen you in, that one's my favorite.

Bridget: Oh, thank you. Thank you. Um, so were -- thank you, Carl. Were you there?

Carl: Well, sort of. I needed the overtime, so I, uh --

Bridget: Oh, well it was absolutely um, lovely. Do you smell something? It smells like chemical?

Carl: Or a hospital disinfectant.

Bridget: No, it's not. It smells like -- moth balls.

Carl: I kind of like that smell. Don't you? It reminds me of closets.

Bridget: Yeah, me too.

Carl: You're not going to believe this, but this is the same tux jacket I wore for my high school prom.

Bridget: And it still fits.

Carl: I didn't want to wear the pants. I thought that'd be too much.

Bridget: Right. Right. Listen Carl, I really appreciate you pulling out the old tux. And this is absolutely lovely, but I want to make sure we're on the same page. This is not a date. Right?

Carl: Well, every appointment is a date.

Bridget: Carl, we're here to discuss Taylor Marone's in vitro. Dr. Caron, Dr. Mills, Mr. Deems. They all assured me that the donor eggs were the ones that were used, and not my mother's. Do you know anything different?

Carl: Mr. Deems? You know what he calls me? Charles. He doesn't even know my name.

Bridget: The eggs, Carl. The eggs?

Waiter: Your caviar sir. Bon appetite.

Carl: Now, see, the difference between fish, and people --

Bridget: Uh, yeah -- Carl.

Carl: Oh, that's right you're a doctor. You already know.

Bridget: Can you just tell me what you know about Taylor Marone's pregnancy?

Guard: Three minutes, miss.

Ridge: I want you to understand, I'm not asking you to do anything. It's just information I felt you could use to make sense of all this. I'm sure that Rick is probably going to bring it up.

Phoebe: Well, he hasn't yet. But if he remembers --

Ridge: It's out of our hands.

Phoebe: It would be really good for you though, if he does.

Ridge: Look, your mother is working with him. But --

Phoebe: Well, could something bad happen to Rick?

Ridge: No, because it was a long time ago. Grant's not even with us anymore. But sweetie, don't pressure him. It's something I did, and it was a big mistake.

Phoebe: I won't but -- I don't know, is it wrong for me to think that this could make things better between you two? I mean, you did an amazing thing for him. Maybe he can stand up for you now.

Taylor: Rick, you don't have to be an actual eyewitness of something to know whether or not it's true. Your mother and I --

Rick: Stop it! Stop it! I happen to be the only eyewitness in this situation. And I say that it never happened. Mom, how could you believe Ridge over your own son? Have you forgotten what kind of a man he is? What he's done to you in the past?

Brooke: But I also remember all the wonderful things that he did for both you and me!

Rick: Here we go again. My mother is trying to convince herself of what an amazing person Ridge is. You know, maybe you ought to give him another chance. I'm sorry. But it would just be best if Ridge stayed in prison.

Stephanie: What? I knew -- I knew Eric should have sued for custody of you and your child.

Carl: Once you load it up with the other stuff, it's not so bad.

Bridget: Oh, no. No, no thanks. Now, just getting back to the lab. How do you know whose eggs were used in the fertilization?

Carl: They have dancing here too?

Bridget: Carl, focus. The lab.

Carl: Oh, okay. Well, you know how they have a transfer log? Everything that goes in or out has to be logged in.

Bridget: Right, and that's the tech's job. Where is that kept?

Carl: Under lock and key. I might be able to get my hands on it.

Bridget: You might? Carl. You told me you knew who's baby Taylor was carrying.

Carl: No. I told you I could tell you. Give me a little time, and I can.

Brooke: I'm sorry, Christine.

Christine: I thought this might happen, so I requested a continuance. The D.A. Will fight it. The judge will listen to arguments tomorrow before jury selection. But I'm telling you, if we have any hope of proving Mr. McGrath was suicidal, we have to buy some time.

Taylor: I probably knew Shane about as well as anybody around here, besides Phoebe -- but if I can't give a clinical assessment, I don't know who else could. I just keep thinking, there's got to be a note somewhere.

Stephanie: Well, there wasn't anything in the car. Just a lot of dirty clothes and junk.

Christine: Did you check the glove compartment? Under the seats?

Stephanie: Mm-hmm.

Christine: Nothing? No cell phone, no address book, nothing?

Stephanie: Phone? Oh, my God. How could I forget that? There was a phone. And it was dropped in the struggle with Ridge. I think we put it here. Here. It's dead, we're going to have to charge it.

Christine: So, do it. Let's see if Shane left us anything to work with.

[Rick remembering]

Ridge: I'll kill you. You stay the hell away from my daughter!

Brooke: Ridge, stop it!

Phoebe: Dad! Dad!

Ridge: Didn't think you'd be back.

Rick: You've got my mom and Taylor really convinced that this situation with Grant Chambers happened exactly the way you said it did.

Ridge: But not you?

Rick: Jog my memory. How did it happen? Did I tell him off? Or did I just hide out and let him have it?

Ridge: Go home Rick.

Rick: I knew it. You're lying. You just want to save your own skin at my expense.

Ridge: Rick, think about something. For merely the arrogant pompous ass you think I am, why would I come to you for help? You of all people. I don't like needing you any more than you do. But it's the truth. You shot Grant Chambers.

Bridget: This is completely unethical, Carl. What you're doing. You got me here under false pretenses. And I feel really used.

Carl: I just wanted to take you to dinner.

Bridget: By taking advantage of my professional and personal feelings about this case?

Carl: I want to help you find the truth. I do.

Bridget: Well, how Carl? You don't know anything more than I do.

Carl: Yet. But I have access to things you don't. Dr. Mills, Dr. Caron, they're walking around with their authority faces trying to make things look a certain way. Well, that may work with other doctors, but it won't work with the guy who cleans up after all of you. I'm not so bad once you get to know me.

Bridget: I didn't say you were bad, Carl.

Carl: And I'm not dumb either. I was on my high school math team. I was the only guy in my cooking class. I can even make crepes. Sweet and savory.

Bridget: I don't think you're dumb, either.

Carl: Well, maybe a little dumb. Maybe a little bad. I'm sorry Bridget. There's just not many ways a guy like me can get to know someone like you.

Bridget: You're going to help me look into this, right?

Carl: I swear.

Bridget: And if it looks like somebody's hiding something --

Carl: We'll find out. That's a promise.

Bridget: Okay. Okay.

Carl: This tux jacket looks pretty stupid, doesn't it?

Bridget: Oh, I think it looks really nice, Carl.

Carl: Then, why won't you dance with me?

Bridget: I didn't say that. Oh, Carl. Oh, my God. Carl.

Stephanie: It's a photograph of Shane.

Taylor: Check the recent calls.

Christine: And the text messages.

Brooke: You think this is right to do? I mean, it feels a little creepy.

Christine: It's evidence. We'll have to turn it in.

Taylor: Scroll down just a little bit more. Okay, wait. Wait, wait. Right there. That's Phoebe's number. Click on it. Phoebe, this is good-bye. I'll love you forever, but I won't be bothering you anymore.

Stephanie: Does that constitute a suicide note?

Brooke: It just sounds like he could have been going out of town.

Taylor: It isn't very definitive.

Christine: True, but it's all we've got.

Ridge: Rick, you need to talk to Taylor.

Rick: I'm not talking to Taylor, okay. As far as I'm concerned, she's just your ex-wife. She doesn't have an open sesame for my blocked mind, so you want me to remember? You make me remember. You tell me how it happened. Where'd I get the gun?

Ridge: You found it. My mother left it for me.

Rick: That I can believe. To do what with?

Ridge: Rick, you hated Grant.

Rick: More than you?

Ridge: I'm not getting into this with you, Rick.

Rick: Did I intend to kill him? Or just scare him?

Ridge: I'm not a professional. I've already screwed that one up once already.

Rick: You say that you want me to try. I am trying, Ridge. But look, if I can't remember, all I can think about is -- it never happened in the first place.

Ridge: Your mother and Taylor have known this for years. They knew you, they knew Grant. Do you really think they'd believe this if they weren't damn sure it was true?

Rick: All right. All right, fine. Let's -- let's say that it's true. Everything, it's all true. Down to the very last detail. What the hell am I supposed to do about it, ridge? Think about it. Even if I believe you right now, I can't go to court, get up on the stand, and testify to something that I don't remember. Please, I am trying to do you a favor. Do not rest your defense on me. I can't help you. You're on your own.
