Thorne: You were there the night Darla was killed? You saw it happen?
Stephanie: Yes, he did.
Thorne: I know you.
Shane: I'm Shane McGrath.
Stephanie: Please, listen to what he has to say with an open mind --
Taylor: I've confessed, Stephanie!
Stephanie: All the more reason --
Taylor: I've been sentenced!
Stephanie: All the more reason this testimony has to be heard. It can keep you from going to prison. Your Honor, it was an accident.
Tartaro: Your Honor, I don't have this witness on my list or in the police report.
Judge: Defense Counsel?
Storm: Just as surprised as Ms. Tartaro, Your Honor.
Tartaro: It's too late to introduce new evidence. This hearing was about to be adjourned. Nothing this man says matters at this point --
Judge: Excuse me? It matters to me.
Thorne: Tell me what happened.
Shane: I was there. I saw the whole thing. I was walking along PCH that night and -- I came upon a car that was broken down. There was this teenage girl that was there, she was trying to fix this flat tire. So, I stopped and I offered up my help to her. But when she took one look at me, she got so scared she jumped back in the car and locked the door. And then -- I couldn't just leave her there. It didn't feel right leaving her out in the middle of nowhere stranded like that, so I stuck around. And that's when I saw your wife. Darla Forrester, she showed up. She tried to help change the flat tire, and when she was turning -- the last lug nut popped off, off the wheel, and she fell back into the road. And that's when Taylor came around the curb. And everything started happening so fast. It -- it was happening so quickly. There was no way that Taylor could miss her.
Phoebe: See, I told you --
Thomas: It was an accident, she can't go to jail.
Storm: Did you know this?
Judge: Counsel, my chambers now. You, too, Mr. Forrester.
Stephanie: Your Honor, he didn't know anything about this.
Judge: I'll deal with you later. Guard, nobody in this room that deals with this case leaves the room. We'll be in recess, ten minutes.
Taylor: Thorne, I had no idea your mother was going to do this. I had no idea. I'm so sorry.
Stephanie: Taylor -- Taylor, you should be happy that I did this. His testimony could keep you from going to prison.
Phoebe: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
Sally: Leave it to the Queen to make a dramatic situation even more explosive.
Eric: Stephanie? Who is this guy? This witness, where did you find him?
Phoebe: He found us, Grandpa.
Stephanie: Look, what's important is that Thorne listens to what he says.
Eric: What's important is that the judge listens to what he says.
Shane: Well, listen, I'll say it again if you need me to.
Stephanie: Thank you. We appreciate what you did today.
Ridge: Taylor, if you knew there was another witness, why didn't you say anything?
Taylor: Because I'm to blame. Whether or not Darla fell into the road doesn't matter -- I'm responsible.
Brooke: It's not a crime if she fell.
Bridget: Mom's right, Taylor.
Taylor: I've already been sentenced! Whatever Shane saw or said, it doesn't make any difference!
Tartaro: With all due respect Your Honor, there's nothing to discuss.
Storm: Well, I disagree. This witness changes everything.
Tartaro: He wasn't sworn in. His testimony isn't admissible.
Storm: Excellent idea. Swear him in. Have him tell his story all over again.
Tartaro: The defendant has already been sentenced. The hearing is over.
Judge: It's not over until I say it's over, Counsel.
Thorne: Your Honor, I want you to know I had nothing to do with this man's appearance.
Judge: But you were very interested in what he had to say. Do you believe him?
Thorne: Phoebe told me that my wife's death was an accident. But Phoebe has lied to protect her mother before.
Judge: You think this fellow's lying?
Thorne: I don't know what to think. I mean, Taylor should not have lied to me and she should not have been driving that night. But if my wife's death was really an accident, does she really deserve to go to prison for ten years of her life?
Jarrett: Shane! Shane! What were you doing on the PCH that night?
Stephanie: He has no comments that he's going to make for the press.
Danica: Where exactly did you find this witness?
Lt. Baker: He's not a witness. This isn't a trial, it's a sentencing hearing. And it's not the Forrester's showroom, it's a court of law.
Jarrett: Yeah. Hi, it's Jarrett. Put me through to the boss.
Stephanie: Thank you, Lt. Baker.
Lt. Baker: Well, you didn't need any help turning this into a circus, Mrs. Forrester.
Stephanie: I just wanted justice.
Lt. Baker: For whom? Taylor or Darla?
Sally: I'd like to know the answer to that one myself.
Stephanie: Sally, the truth is out at last. The rest is up to the judge.
Hector: Do you see Taylor?
Stephanie: Excuse me. And thank you again. Hector, good, you made it.
Hector: Stephanie, this is Harry. He's a friend of Phoebe'S.
Stephanie: Oh.
Harry: Hi.
Hector: So, I heard the reporters talking outside. Shane told the judge Darla fell into the road?
Stephanie: Yes, he did.
Hector: Well that's -- that's great, it's over, right? Then Taylor will be released?
Stephanie: No, unfortunately, he had already given her the sentence.
Hector: So, if -- if she changes her plea, then the case goes to trial.
Stephanie: Well, that's what were hoping. And if that happens, then of course Shane's testimony is absolutely essential.
Phoebe: Shane's testimony was amazing, Harry. The way he just burst in with Stephanie and told the judge his story. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Thomas: Why does the judge want to see Thorne?
Eric: I think he's just trying to sort things out.
Brooke: Storm said that all he needed was just one more witness to back up phoebe's story, and then he could probably get Taylor off of this manslaughter charge.
Taylor: No, no! Thorne and Alexandria have already suffered enough. I won't put them through a trial. I just won't.
Thomas: Mom –
Thorne: Do I think Taylor belongs in jail? Is that what you're asking me?
Tartaro: You just said the defendant shouldn't have been driving that night. Dr. Hayes was driving on a suspended license, under the influence of alcohol --
Storm: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Facts not in evidence. She was never administered a breathalyzer test.
Tartaro: Because she fled the scene and covered up her crime.
Storm: Witness clearly stated, that was an accident.
Tartaro: That's not what it said in the defendant's signed confession.
Storm: Okay, you know what? I'm willing to stipulate to the first two counts of the indictment, your honor. Dr. Hayes was driving on a suspended license. Her behavior may have been construed as obstruction.
Tartaro: She lied to the police repeatedly.
Storm: My concern is the final count. Gross vehicular manslaughter carries a mandatory sentence of ten years. Now, if there is an eyewitness out there who can testify that the accident was unavoidable, it's not manslaughter.
Tartaro: He can't testify at a sentencing hearing. You know that.
Storm: Put him on trial. You know this information can get my client off. Your honor, his testimony is pivotal.
Tartaro: Without it, you have no case.
Judge: All right, enough. Enough! Enough, both of you. Mr. Forrester, Dr. Hayes has pled guilty to killing your wife.
Storm: Only -- only to spare you the anguish of a trial. Now, if what Shane says is true, my client deserves the right to change her plea.
Judge: And I'll determine what your client deserves, counselor. Mr. Forrester, I would like to get your opinion on the subject. Now, tell me. What would you like to see happen here? I don't know why people don't know about this.
Hector: Stephanie, how is Taylor?
Stephanie: It's the rest of the family, actually, I'm worried about now. Hector, will you be all right if I leave you here for a moment?
Hector: I'm fine, go ahead.
Stephanie: All right, thank you.
Shane: So what did you think about my speech? It was pretty eloquent, right?
Stephanie: As long as it's convincing, that's what matters.
Shane: Wait a second, we got a deal here. Whether it was or not, I still get what I want.
Harry: Well, at least now I know what you've been going through.
Phoebe: You don't hate me for lying to you?
Harry: Phoebe, you -- you were trying to protect your mom. And you wouldn't be the first person who ever kept a secret for someone you cared about.
Lt. Baker: Hello, Hector.
Hector: Baker.
Lt. Baker: I always knew that eventually Taylor would do the right thing.
Hector: Yeah, well, I just hope she doesn't get punished for it.
Lt. Baker: Well, we'll find out.
Bailiff: Los Angeles superior court will now reconvene in the case of Los Angeles county versus Taylor Hayes. The honorable Judge Owens presiding.
Jarrett: Here we go.
Taylor: You know what Shane said is -- it doesn't change anything. Thorne is -- he's never gonna forgive me for what I did to his family. But I am touched by what you did.
Stephanie: You're welcome. I did it for Alexandria and Thorne as well. Because they need you. Now, just don't give up.
Taylor: What happened?
Bailiff: All rise.
Judge: Court is now in session. As you're all aware, the defendant has been sentenced. That was the sole purpose of this hearing. But it's also true that we have not yet adjourned. So, in the interest of justice -- for the victim and the defendant -- we will continue. Ms. Tartaro --
Tartaro: The guilty pleas and the sentences on the first two charges of driving with a suspended license and obstruction will stand. But even though I believe the prosecution has earned its conviction in this case, in light of new evidence, and after consulting with the victim's family, I think it would be a miscarriage of justice not to offer the defendant a chance to change her plea from the gross vehicular manslaughter charge.
Storm: I would like to thank the court for its consideration.
Taylor: That won't be necessary, your honor.
Storm: Please, Taylor, we can fight this. Sit down.
Taylor: No, my reasons for pleading guilty haven't changed. I don't want to drag my victim's family into a legal court battle.
Stephanie: Taylor -- Taylor, he doesn't want you to go to prison. He wants you to fight this.
Taylor: Your honor --
Judge: What is it, Dr. Hayes?
Taylor: You've offered me an opportunity to change my plea to not guilty. I'll do it.
Ridge: Thanks for coming forward and helping my family out.
Shane: Hey, hey, hey, hey, don't mention it. I mean, hey, it's my pleasure.
Phoebe: I think I'm going to call Steffy and let her know what's going on.
Bridget: Oh, that's a good idea. All right, yeah, I'll go with you. I'm sure she's gonna be so relieved.
Phoebe: Yeah.
Ridge: Taylor's not off the hook. She still has to go to trial.
Brooke: But with Shane's testimony. Taylor has to win.
Ridge: Yeah, but with her deal off the table, the prosecutor can still go after Hector and Phoebe.
Harry: So -- the big hero now, huh?
Shane: Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, it feels pretty good. You know, doing -- doing the right thing.
Stephanie: Well, once you testify at Taylor's trial, you're going to feel even better.
Shane: I don't know. I mean, that prosecutor seemed pretty tough. I just hope she doesn't start poking holes in my story.
Stephanie: Just tell the truth. You have nothing to worry about.
Eric: Shane, I want to thank you, too. You know, Taylor is very lucky to have both you and Stephanie on her side.
Stephanie: Well, that's kind of you, honey. Thank you.
Shane: Thank you.
Stephanie: But -- I think -- I think Thorne's the man of the hour. He really showed today what he's made of, honey. He could have let his anger and his betrayal shut him down, and he didn't. He opened his heart. And love saved Taylor. Eventually, it might save him, too. He's certainly suffered enough. But now he has a chance to be happy.
Shane: Yes, ma'am.
Stephanie: This trial isn't going to be easy. It isn't going to be easy on him or Taylor. They're going to need all our support. Both of them.
Taylor: Thorne -- what you did today -- I don't even know what to say.
Thorne: You told me it was an accident. So did Phoebe. I didn't believe you.
Taylor: Why should you? I've hidden so many things from you.
Thorne: But Shane's testimony --
Taylor: That meant something to you?
Thorne: Shane's testimony made the difference. And seeing what this is doing to your family might have played a part, too.
Taylor: Yeah, it's really -- it's been really hard on my kids.
Thorne: Alexandria, too. She asked about you this morning, wanted to know where you've been. I didn't know what to tell her. She misses you.
Taylor: I miss her, too.
Thorne: I should go.
Taylor: Wait. I have to thank you.
Thorne: You don't.
Taylor: I do. What you said to the judge -- the fact that you even said anything. You didn't have to. You may not have even wanted to, but you did. But that's the kind of man you are. You stick by people. Even after they've hurt you. I'm just -- I'm utterly humbled by your compassion. And I know you've been in so much pain. And I know -- I know you feel so betrayed. It's so much more than I deserve. Thank you. Thank you, thank you.
Thorne: Guard?
