Brooke: I just heard about Taylor on the radio. It's got to be some terrible mistake, right?

Ridge: Preliminary hearing's happening right now. I called Storm. He flew down immediately. Taylor seems determined to plead guilty. She seems to think that's the only way Thorne is gonna get any closure here. If she spends the next ten years behind bars.

Brooke: She really does love him.

Ridge: Well, they share something very special. In the midst of their own personal hells. They should be out celebrating their engagement. Taylor's in court and Thorne's heart is being ripped apart to shreds. And there doesn't seem to be a damn thing any of us can do to change any of it.

Shane: I just don't get it. Why should I take a better stab at her defense?

Hector: What are you talking about, McGrath?

Shane: The newspaper here, blind man. It's the newspaper. It says here, that nothing's been officially confirmed, but sources inside the D.A.'s office claim the good Doc's made a full confession in Darla Forrester's death.

Hector: Really? What else does it say?

Shane: Well, apparently, the cops are now in question about phoebe's accounts. Which means, they don't know whether they're going to charge her or anybody else with a possible cover-up. That would be you, Smokey.

Hector: Hey, I'm not thinking about myself right now. I'm thinking about Taylor.

Shane: Yeah, well, so am I. And her daughter too.

Taylor: I plead guilty, your honor.

Judge Owens: Let the record show, the defendant has pled guilty to the three counts she's charged with. As to sentencing -- I'm looking at three weeks. All parties will be notified once an exact day and time has been determined.

Tartaro: Just to confirm, your honor. The defendant will be held in custody pending sentencing, correct?

Stephanie: Storm, what about bail?

Storm: Taylor violated terms of probation for her prior DUI conviction. There's no bail.

Stephanie: Your honor, I can guarantee the bail for Dr. Hayes. Is it possible that she should not be locked up that --

Judge Owens: Mrs. Forrester, bail has been denied. Now, please sit down. Sit down. Thank you. Anything else, counselors?

Tartaro: No, sir.

Judge Owens: Mr. Logan?

Taylor: I have something to say.

Storm: Taylor, don't do this right now, please?

Taylor: I took the life of a woman. She was a wife and a mother. Darla was a wonderful, amazing human being. And she's gone now because of me. And I want to spare Thorne and his little girl anymore heartache than they've already been through. I don't want to drag this out. My counsel advised me that there is a mandatory sentence. And I'm asking your honor to impose it right now. So, that they don't have to go through this anymore.

Stephanie: Storm, talk to her.

Tartaro: The prosecution is agreeable, judge.

Storm: Your honor, I need a moment with my client please. Taylor, what are you doing?

Taylor: No, this is what I want to do. I want to do this. I have to get this over with for Thorne and Alexandria. They can't go through this anymore. They can't heal until I do. I'm not asking for myself. I'm asking for them. They've suffered enough.

Judge Owens: Very well, doctor. I'll clear some time this afternoon. We'll reconvene sentencing after lunch.

Stephanie: Taylor? Taylor --

Taylor: Stephanie, no, this is how it has to be.

Brooke: Have you reached Steffy in London?

Ridge: Last night. I hated to tell her everything over the phone, but --

Brooke: You really had no choice. The media is all over this.

Ridge: She wanted to come home, but I told her to just sit tight until we know more.

[Phone rings] Hello?

Stephanie: Hello, honey. Well, the hearing's over.

Ridge: Please tell me that Taylor decided not to plead guilty.

Stephanie: No, no, she didn't. A matter of fact, she's asked the judge to pass sentence this afternoon. I don't think there's anything to be done. She's gonna go to prison.

Ridge: I'm on my way.

Brooke: Ridge, I'm so sorry. For everything.

Storm: It's bad enough you plead guilty. But to ask for immediate sentencing? At least give me the chance to help you.

Taylor: Storm, please --

Storm: No, Phoebe saw what happened that night. She can tell the court --

Taylor: No! No! You are not putting Phoebe on the stand. No, no. I'm already put her through enough hell. No more. No. Besides, they wouldn't believe her anyway. They'll just think she's trying to protect me.

Storm: Fine, well, then we'll find someone else who saw what happened. You know, it's a busy highway. Someone could've seen the accident, but for whatever reason hasn't come forward. What? Dr. Taylor Hayes, is there something you're not telling me?

Taylor: No, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter even if someone did see it. I'm not blaming Darla. I'm not going to say that she fell into my car, like some kind of an idiot. Forget it.

Lt. Baker: It's gonna be over soon.

Thorne: Okay.

Lt. Baker: All right. It's okay.

Stephanie: Lieutenant.

Lt. Baker: Mrs. Forrester.

Stephanie: You do realize what just happened here.

Thorne: I realize the woman who took my wife from me is going to prison.

Stephanie: No, honey, she's avoiding going to trial. Because she doesn't want you and Alexandria to be hurt anymore. Honey, they are going to take away from her children. Doesn't that show you how much she loves you?

Thorne: Stop, Mother. You stop defending her. My wife is dead because of Taylor. She ran over her and then she lied to me, to my face for months. She deserves ten years for what she did to my family. And nothing you can do or nothing Taylor can say is ever going to make me see it any other way.

Hector: I said this would happen. That the closer Taylor gets to Thorne, the more difficult it'll be for her to not tell him the truth. So, if she's in front of a judge right now, confessing her guilt, telling the truth -- it isn't just to spare Thorne the anguish of going through a painful trial. It's to spare Phoebe and Stephanie and me. Because by forgoing a trial, our part in the cover-up won't come out.

Shane: That's exactly right. That's exactly what it is. It's a cover-up. It's got your name written all over it, blind man.

Hector: Hey, I was trying to protect Taylor, McGrath.

Shane: Yeah, you're so guilt-ridden because you gave so much lousy advice to Taylor. Hey, you thought I was bad for this family, man.

Hector: I'm still not convinced that you're not. That you didn't come here to blackmail her. Or regardless, you don't have anything to hang over her head now, so you might as well run for the hills.

[Shane scoffs]

Shane: Like I should be taking advice from you. Besides, I think people are going to be wanting me around here real soon. A lot sooner than you think.

( Acoustic guitar playing )

Ridge: Taylor is so caught up in her guilt from loving my brother and his little girl.

Brooke: She's not the only one feeling guilt, is she?

Ridge: I thought she'd be okay, after our marriage broke up. I think if I handled things differently. Taylor wouldn't be where she is right now.

Storm: Taylor, your love for this man is clouding your judgment. What happened was an accident. If you just let me mount a defense.

Taylor: No. Ten years of my life is nothing -- nothing compared to the pain I've caused Thorne and Alexandria. I'm not causing one more second of heartache. I will not do it.

Stephanie: I'm not trying to defend this. Please, it's a terrible, terrible tragedy and it was a mistake for her to lie. And it was a mistake for the three of us to encourage her to lie. But that is no reason for her to go to jail for ten years for something that was an accident, honey.

Thorne: According to Phoebe, Mother. Who has been lying to protect her for months now.

Stephanie: Darla was too close to the road. She lost her balance --

Thorne: Okay, fine. She was too close to the road, okay? But falling into an oncoming car, mother? That's pretty damn convenient. And if it was an accident, why in hell didn't they say so that night?

Stephanie: I don't know, honey. Maybe they were scared --

Thorne: Because Taylor was drinking, Mother. That's why. And she was driving with a suspended license and she hit Darla. And there were no witnesses to claim otherwise, Mother, except for phoebe who has been lying to the police and she has been lying to me for months now to protect her.

Stephanie: But if there is a witness?

Thorne: Mother, for the love of -- there isn't. There was no one else.

Stephanie: If there is a witness -- if there is, will you listen? Will you open your mind and really listen to the truth?

Shane: Yep. I am the answer, all right.

Hector: Oh, relax, McGrath. Phoebe's not gonna look for comfort in you. She's got a father for that and a mother.

Shane: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hello? Hello? Hector, did you lose your hearing, too? Did you hear what I just said? If she pleads guilty, she's going to go straight to the pokey. Unless some miraculous miracle just happens to come along. Like, let's say -- some new evidence happens to come to light --

Hector: Or someone comes forward to corroborate Phoebe's testimony that Darla fell into the road.

Shane: What are you suggesting, Hector? Are you suggesting that I should just show up in court, maybe testify?

Hector: Hey, that's what you said. You said that you were there, that you saw what happened. So you could tell the court.

Shane: Yeah, that's right. I guess I could probably do that. Or, then again, I could probably just pack my bags and just head for the hills and never look back again.

Hector: McGrath? Hey! Ah, jerk.

[Phone rings] Hello?

Stephanie: Hector?

Hector: Stephanie?

Stephanie: Yes, is Shane there?

Hector: He was, but I think he's leaving.

Stephanie: Oh, no. Don't let him. Look, she's going to be sentenced in an hour. He's the only witness. So, I'm coming out to the house -- I'm going to come and get him, all right?

Hector: I'll do what I can.

Brooke: Ridge, don't do this to yourself.

Ridge: It's Taylor I've done it to. She was devastated when I ended our marriage. Devastated, alone, in pain. That's when she started self-medicating with alcohol. I didn't know about all that. I didn't really have a clue about it for months, because I was desperately trying to win you back. I still am.

Brooke: Do you wish you were back with her?

Ridge: Logan, no. I love you. I love us. I want our "happily ever after." And I believe you want that, too.

Brooke: But you still feel a responsibility. Because that's the kind and loving and compassionate man that I met and fell in love with so many years ago.

Ridge: I'm glad you're here.

Brooke: I'll always be here for you. Always.

Hector: McGrath, I know you're here. You don't have a car, man. You need to take a cab.

Shane: Showtime. Oh.

Stephanie: Shane, I need you to come with me now.

Shane: I don't think I can do that. I gotta go catch a bus.

Stephanie: A bus? To where?

Shane: Well, to San Fran. I got a friend up there that offered me a really great job and I thought it'd be a good idea since you thought I was sponging off the family.

Stephanie: Well, I do think that's what you're doing, but that's beside the point. I need you to come with me down to the courthouse and tell the judge exactly what happened that day.

Shane: Wait, wait, wait. A judge?

Stephanie: Yes, they're going to sentence Taylor. You're the only witness. You have to come down and tell the judge what you saw. That Darla fell in front of the car and Taylor couldn't swerve in time to avoid hitting her.

Shane: Or maybe not. Or maybe I'll just keep my big mouth shut. Isn't that what you said?

[Keys jingling]

Thorne: You did the right thing by not dragging my wife's name through the mud with this preposterous story of her falling into your car. And it is preposterous, you do know that.

Taylor: I know that Darla died doing something her family could be proud of. That's how I want you to remember her. She was a remarkable woman. And what I want you to remember about me, Thorne, is -- I'm sure you don't think I have any integrity or character, but I do want you do know that I did -- I did fall in love with you and my feelings were genuine and they were real. I mean, I didn't expect to fall in love with you. I don't know. The only way I can explain it is -- you showed me your heart. You were going through the worst thing in your life and you reached out and you helped me. Nobody's ever done that with me before. It just seems like everybody in my life that I thought I could count on has ditched me. You showed me what real love is. I've never been able to accept that kind of love before. I've always been looking for some fairytale. I'll cherish you because you taught me that. I'll always cherish you, Thorne.
