Reporter: Eric, Ridge, who challenged who?
Eric: I challenged him.
Reporter: Aren't you putting your son in a difficult position?
Eric: I am putting my son on notice -- the Forrester name stands for class and quality because of me -- my style, my class, my talent. I am the original "Forrester original."
Ridge: Yeah, I won't debate that. This guy is a classic, all right.
[ Light laughter ]
Eric: Are you saying that I'm beyond my prime?
Ridge: Oh, no, no, no, no -- I'm not -- I'm not saying anything, actually. I'm gonna let my designs speak for themselves in Portofino.
Eric: Well, they're gonna have to so that anyway, because after everybody sees my designs, the entire world will be talking about mine.
[ light laughter ]
Thorne: They're good. The press is eating this up.
Stephanie: And they are loving every minute of it.
[ Light laughter ]
Reporter: Sally, what do you think about this competition?
Sally: Oh, well, honey, I am not quite the horse player I used to be, but if I were gonna handicap this race, I will put my money on Ridge Forrester. This is not to take away from Eric Forrester -- who has got a lot of class -- blood and breeding, he knows what he's doing. But Ridge is the guy that can get the job done. He's got Spectra to back him up. As a matter of fact, I have several very brilliant stallions in my stable.
[ Light laughter ]
Megan: Thorne, have you seen Brooke?
Thorne: She's not here?
Megan: No. I just haven't been able to find her, that's all.
[ Thorne groans ]
Thorne: She's right there.
Megan: Brooke, I have been looking for you everywhere.
Brooke: Oh, hi. Sorry I'm late. I had to feed Hope. How's it going?
Megan: I need to talk to you, okay? Can we go down to your office?
Brooke: Right now?
Megan: It's important. It really is. Look, I went to Las Olas yesterday. And I bet you can imagine --
Stephanie: Brooke, what are you doing here? I thought we agreed you were gonna let Eric handle all of this.
Brooke: Stephanie, I am CEO of the company, I have a right to show up at my own press conference.
Stephanie: Megan, will you excuse us please?
Megan: Yeah.
Stephanie: This competition between Eric and Ridge has absolutely nothing to do with you. Please stay out of it.
Brooke: You mean stay away from Ridge, don't you?
Stephanie: Mm-hmm.
Brooke: Well, you can forget it. Because as long as Ridge needs my support, I am going to be here for him.
[ Laughter ]
[ talking over each other ]
Reporter: How many designs will you be showing?
Ridge: Seven each. Six cocktail dresses and one showstopper.
Eric: Actually, that's not entirely accurate. We will both be showing seven designs, but only one design can actually stop the show.
Ridge: I stand corrected. My Father is absolutely right. He will be showing seven designs. I'll be showing six originals and the one and only showstopper.
[ Light laughter ]
Reporter: How will the winner be decided?
Eric: Our international office is compiling a list of possible judges as we speak.
Ridge: We'll have experts from throughout the industry -- fashion designers, critics, journalists --
Eric: Actually, if any of you thinks that they're on the list, you may want to have a private moment with Ridge later. I'm sure he'd like that. He needs all the help he can get.
[ Laughter ]
Rick: Look at those guys.
Amber: Wow, Ridge looks great.
Rick: Yeah, he is really psyched about this competition.
Amber: I'm not so sure it's just the competition. I think it's all the time he's been spending with your Mom.
Rick: Amber, let's not get into that again.
Amber: What? She's good for him, Rick.
Rick: Don't tell that to Stephanie.
Amber: Where is Brooke anyway? I don't see her. I thought she'd be up at the podium with him.
Rick: No, this is Dad's deal. She's -- she's staying out of it.
Amber: Really?
Rick: Mm-hmm.
Amber: So Brooke is giving up the chance to be in the spotlight with Ridge? I don't know, Rick. I don't know. Now, she may not be at the press conference with him, but -- nothing's gonna stop her from going to Italy with him.
[ talking over each other ]
Reporter: Eric, you haven't given yourself much time to design this collection.
Eric: Oh, I do my best work under pressure.
Reporter: Is this a sign that Forrester is returning to its haute couture roots.
Eric: I'll answer that question in Portofino. How you doing, Ridge?
Ridge: Great.
Clarke: Ridge, you guys have really whipped this crowd into a frenzy.
Sally: You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till we get to Italy. I'm telling you, the streets are gonna be wall-to-wall with people -- the rich and famous and the paparazzi -- my favorite combination. We're talking publicity heaven, big time.
Thorne: Hey, how is Hope liking her first press conference?
Brooke: Oh, I think she's a little overwhelmed.
Thorne: Well, I guess. It's a circus in here. Look at this.
Reporter: Ms. Logan? I have a message for you.
Brooke: Oh, thank you.
Thorne: Good news?
Brooke: Well, I'm not sure. Where's your brother?
Thorne: Well, he was at the podium just a minute ago. I don't know --
Stephanie: Brooke, can I talk to you for a moment?
Brooke: Just the person I wanted to see. Something came up, could you just watch Hope for a minute?
Stephanie: You're leaving?
Brooke: Well, yeah. Like I said, something came up. So, thanks. Bye, little sweetie, I'll see you later.
Stephanie: What's going on? Where is she going?
Thorne: I have no idea.
Brooke: "Meet me in the steam room." Ridge?
Eric: Actually, it's a very wide range of cocktail dresses. Sort of very sophisticated and sort of fun.
Rick: You know, Amber, Dad may have posed this challenge to cheer up Ridge. But I assure you, when they get to Italy, it's going to be 100% business.
Amber: Yeah. All the more reason for your Mom to go. You know, she is ceo of Forrester.
Rick: Yes, but she's letting Dad take tie lead on this one.
Amber: Well, she's definitely letting him run the press conference. Look, Ridge isn't even on stage anymore.
Rick: No -- no, there he is. It looks like they are finishing up, actually.
Amber: Maybe we should have been there.
Rick: Did you want to go?
Amber: Right. I'd rather be at work than in bed with my husband.
Rick: Look, are you sure you don't feel left out?
Amber: No, no. Hey, uh -- you don't think that your family thinks we ditched them because I'm jealous?
Rick: Oh, no. No, Amber.
Amber: You know, because I'm not. I think this is great, you know, your Dad and Ridge going head-to-head. I mean, it's really exciting.
Rick: Portofino is going to be crazy!
Amber: Yeah, I bet.
Rick: I heard Dad talking about the Hotel Splendido. It sounds absolutely amazing.
Amber: You're really looking forward to this, huh?
Rick: Yeah, aren't you?
Amber: Sure. I love Italy.
Rick: But?
Amber: But -- it's been really nice being back home here, you know, hanging out with you and Eric.
Rick: You don't wanna go.
Amber: I -- I know that you really want to support your Dad.
Rick: I wanna be with you, Amber.
Amber: Yeah, but, you know, you're -- you're the vice president of the company. You should be there.
Rick: Hey, look at me. We have been apart too much already. Okay? If you want to stay, then I'm gonna stay. I'm not going anywhere without you.
Amber: Really?
Rick: Yeah. Yeah.
Brooke: Hello? It's Brooke. I got your note. Is anybody in here? Come out, come out, wherever you are.
Ridge: Hey, don't let my Dad fool you. Trust me, he's quaking in his boots. And he should be.
[ Laughter ]
Stephanie: This is a wonderful idea. Just what Ridge needed.
Eric: Well, I'm not doing this just for Ridge, you know?
Stephanie: You want to win?
Eric: I am going to win. The question is -- are you going to be there to help me celebrate?
Stephanie: I'm going to be there, yes.
Eric: Good. Because this is not just a business trip, you know? I have other things in mind.
Stephanie: Oh, you have something else in mind?
Eric: Yes, indeed. You and me, the most exquisite suite at the Hotel Splendido, two glasses of Pinot Grigio on the balcony overlooking your favorite city in the world.
Stephanie: What's wrong with champagne? All right. You've painted a wonderful picture.
Eric: I'm glad to hear it. You said you wanted to be wooed.
Stephanie: Oh.
Sally: You know, Massimo, I'm very glad you decided to come with us.
Massimo: What can I say? Ridge is determined to do this. Naturally, I'm going to support him.
Sally: Of course. But I know how hard it is for you watching him connecting with Eric.
Massimo: Oh -- I'm just relieved to see my son smiling again.
Ridge: All right. I think that's all the time we have for questions. Dad, do you want to say anything else?
Eric: Oh, yes, yes. I do have something very important to say.
Ridge: I'm sure you do.
Eric: Thank you all very much for being here today.
Ridge: You can pick up your press packets on the way out.
Eric: Yes. And we'll see you all in Portofino.
[ Applause ]
Ridge: Hey. I was hoping to say hi to Brooke before I left. Have you seen her?
Stephanie: She's gone.
Ridge: She is?
Stephanie: Mm-hmm.
Ridge: Oh, I wanted to see how she felt about the press conference.
Stephanie: Oh, well, honey, you were wonderful.
Ridge: Thank you. Thank you. I wonder where she is, though.
Stephanie: I don't have any idea. She just said she had something to do and asked me to watch the baby for her.
Ridge: Hmm.
***************************************************************
Deacon: Damn, you look good.
Brooke: Deacon?
Deacon: What you expected somebody else?
Brooke: How the Hell did you get in here?
Deacon: I used to work here, Brooke. Hey, speaking of work, I hear you've been quite the busy lady.
Brooke: Yes, I am very busy. And I really don't have time for these stupid little games.
Deacon: Right. You gotta -- you got a full plate, don't ya? Running your company, looking after your family, Ridge. That's just too bad about Taylor. That's a real shame. A woman like that cut down at the prime of her life -- three kids, devoted husband. Poor guy, he must just be wrack with grief, huh? You know what they say though. One woman's tragedy is another woman's dream come true.
Brooke: You have no idea what you're talking about.
Deacon: Brooke, you forget, honey, I know you. I know you better than anybody.
Brooke: You don't know anything about me.
Deacon: Oh, that's not true. You see, I know what you're like when the doors are closed, lights are out. I know what you want. And I know just how far you're willing to
go to get it, don't I? What's the matter, honey? You don't like to face the truth?
Brooke: Look, I'm sorry if your life has fallen apart. And I can understand that you want to blame me.
Deacon: You ran me out of town.
Brooke: You offered to leave.
Deacon: And you couldn't hide your relief, could you?!
Brooke: Is that why you're harassing me? You want some kind of apology or something?
Deacon: You think that I'm harassing you? A year ago, Brooke, you would have been all over this. If you remember, you couldn't keep your hands off me, could you?
Brooke: Deacon -- stop.
Deacon: You know, Brooke, nobody even knows you're down here, do they? What do you say? How about a little something for old time's sake?
****************************************************************
Ridge: So, she didn't say when she'd be back?
Stephanie: No.
Ridge: Did it seem like something was wrong?
Stephanie: I didn't notice anything. Look, her moods should not be your concerns.
Ridge: I'm not concerned. I'm just a little curious, that's all.
Stephanie: Yes, I know. And that's exactly what I'm worried about.
Ridge: Well, then let's talk about something else.
Stephanie: Fine. The last thing in the world that I want is for you to be thinking about Brooke -- today or any other day.
Ridge: Shh. Not in front of the baby.
Stephanie: That's the saddest part of all of this. I'd had hoped that the baby would change her.
Ridge: Hasn't it? I think the fact that she's letting you watch her little daughter is quite an accomplishment, after everything you put her through.
Stephanie: She should be watching her own child.
Ridge: Well, hey, you don't want to watch her, I’d be glad to watch her until Brooke comes back.
Stephanie: Oh, no.
Ridge: What?
Stephanie: That's the last thing I need is for you to become attached to this little baby. You have three children of your own that need your full attention now.
Ridge: Mother, when are you gonna stop doing this? When are you gonna realize that Brooke and I are friends?
Stephanie: You've just lost your wife. I know you. You're vulnerable and you're lonely.
Ridge: I'm also a grown man, believe it or not.
Stephanie: Yes, I know. And I can't keep you from seeing Brooke. But I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that I'm concerned. Any time that you spend together is just not healthy.
Ridge: The fact that she makes me feel better, that's not a good thing?
Stephanie: Of course it matter to me. It's not about being a good thing. I want you to be happy. And whether you believe it or not, I'd like Brooke to be happy, as well. The two of you are just getting your lives back on track. And for her, that's wonderful. For you, this is just the beginning of a journey. And I want to make sure that you're headed in the right direction.
Ridge: As long as it's away from her, right?
Stephanie: Absolutely. Because nothing good can come from it.
Ridge: Can you give me one legitimate reason why I should be wary of Brooke right now, huh? Really, I'd like to know. What the Hell has she done to make you distrust her so badly?
************************************************************
Brooke: Deacon, I said stop it.
Deacon: I forgot about that -- how much you like to give orders.
Brooke: No, I'm asking --
Deacon: No, you never asked me for nothing. Did you? No, you just told me how it was going to be right from the start. And I gave, and I gave, and I gave. I gave up my daughter. And I gave up my job. And I gave up my life in L.A. Did you thank me? No. No, you just looked at me with that dirty look like you are right now.
Brooke: You are drunk and disgusting. And you need to go clean yourself up.
Deacon: Hey, I tried to clean myself up, didn't I? Hell, I went corporate for you. I tried to be everything that you wanted me to be. But I just couldn't do it, could I? I was never going to be that guy. Same as Eric, same as Thorne -- all those idiots who tried to make you happy! They can't do, can they?! Because there's only one guy who can make you happy!
Brooke: Oh, that's it. I'm not gonna listen --
Deacon: Fine. Hey -- fine, don't listen. Don't listen, Brooke, you know? But I'll tell you something about drunks. Give 'em a couple of drinks -- I don't know, man, you never know what they're gonna say, do you?
Brooke: Is that a threat?
Deacon: I guess that all depends on what you told your boyfriend.
Brooke: Ridge is not my boyfriend.
Deacon: That's right. That's right, he's not. And he never will be either. Not if he finds out about our little secret. I mean, I can't even imagine what a bombshell this would be. Can you? You know, I somehow think that he would have a whole new idea of who his little Logan is. I don't think he'd be too keen on it.
Brooke: Are you trying to blackmail me?
Deacon: No. No, I just came up to see an old friend. I mean, I guess I could have come up to your office. But I just thought you'd rather talk in private. Judging from your face, I can see that I was right. All right, listen -- I gotta go. 'Cause if somebody comes in here, finds out about our little secret, it could become office gossip. And that is, we both know, it would be -- bye-bye Ridge, wouldn't it? It's so funny how the tables have turned. I'll catch you later, Brooke.
