Taylor: How's Eric?

Ridge: Dad's -- dad's fine. Sheila never touched him. Brooke's doing great. She should be released today as well, so you' the one we were worried about, doc. You were really out.

Taylor: How long?

Ridge: I don't know, 12 hours, maybe. I feel like I've aged ten years. Why did you go over to dad's?

Taylor: I wanted to warn him.

Ridge: Mm. You knew how Sheila was obsessed with him, didn't you?

Taylor: She's calling her daughter Erica.

Ridge: Yeah, well, now Sheila's in jail. I think they're gonna cut some kind of deal with Wrica -- well, Mary. Have her go live with her dad.

Taylor: James will have his daughter.

Ridge: Yeah, well, he may be sorry, because that girl is a witch.

Taylor: She's a child.

Ridge: Doc, she's a "child" that almost got Amber killed. Yes, I did apologize to Amber. You were right from the very beginning. I should have listened to you. If I had just spent more time helping you and not setting up roadblocks. Well, never again. From now on, you are the undisputed authority on human nature. Whatever you say goes.

Taylor: I'm gonna hold you to that.

Ridge: Yeah, well, you do whatever you need to do, as long as you don't leave my sight. You scared the hell out of me, doc.

Taylor: It was serious?

Ridge: The bullet tore through an artery. They had to do major reconstructive surgery on the valve in your heart. But here you are, alive and kicking, so I'm not complaining.

Taylor: 12 hours?

Ridge: Yeah.

Taylor: Since the surgery?

Ridge: Longest 12 hours of my life. Why do you ask?

Ridge: They said after a of couple days, they'll know if you're out of the woods.

Taylor: My doctor --

Ridge: The doctor? You want to see the doctor? Okay. He was looking forward to this conversation, too. Wait till he hears what brought you out of it.

Taylor: Stinky.

Ridge: Yeah. It's probably the smell, don't you think? You know, kind of like smelling salts.

Taylor: Did you ask her to do it?

Ridge: No, Steffy volunteered herself. That's love for you, huh?

Taylor: She's scared.

Ridge: Yeah. We haven't told them everything, of course, but Catherine's keeping them very occupied.

Taylor: Will you bring them to me?

Ridge: Yes, of course. How are you feeling, though? Are you in a lot of pain?

Taylor: A little bit.

Ridge: I'll tell you what -- just having those eyes looking back at me, it's the answer to a million prayers, doc. And I'll tell you something else, when I get you home, I'm not letting you leave there.

Taylor: Ever?

Ridge: No, never. I'm gonna take away the car keys, lock you in the bedroom where it's safe. The kids and I'll come and visit you, okay?

Taylor: What about my patients?

Ridge: Those nutcases? Are you kidding? I don't want them anywhere near you. I don't want you chasing lunatics around the city, getting shot anymore. Look, when you saw Sheila, why didn't you run the other way?

Taylor: Couldn't leave your father alone. Almost had her talked down.

Ridge: Then all hell broke loose when Brooke showed up, huh?

Taylor: I don't remember much.

Ridge: Don't think about it anymore. Look, I'm gonna -- oh, man. I'm gonna go call mother and have her bring the kids in.

Taylor: Sweetheart?

Ridge: Hmm?

Taylor: I really love you, but you could really use a shower.

Ridge: Oh, really? Oh, really? You think I need to get cleaned up, huh? Okay. Well, how do I know you'll be here when I get back?

Mark: I'll keep an eye on her.

Ridge: Hey, doctor. Dr. Maclaine, meet my wife.

Mark: Hello. So how long have you been awake?

Ridge: Just a few minutes, really. But she's back to her old self. She was bossing me around already.

Mark: That's what I like to hear.

Ridge: Well, I'm gonna go get the kids.

Taylor: And a shave.

Ridge: Yeah, and a shave. I love you.

Taylor: I love you.

Ridge: Thank you, doctor. I'll call you in a little while, okay?

Mark: Okay.

                        **************************************************************************************

Dr. Bloom: So, who are you going to have look after you?

Rick: My wife and me.

Brooke: No.

Rick: Mom, I thought we talked about this.

Brooke: I can hire a nurse to take care of me.

Rick: Forget it, okay? We almost lost you. Do you realize how terrifying that is? I just thank god that you're still around to need taking care of. Now, you sign whatever you have to sign so we can get the heck out of here.

Dr. Bloom: Now, that sounds like good advice.

Brooke: Okay. Thank you, doctor.

Rick: Yes, thank you.

Dr. Bloom: Now, don't forget the things that we talked about.

Brooke: Yes.

Dr. Bloom: Take care.

Rick: So, is this everything?

Brooke: Yeah, that's it. So you can go on downstairs, okay? I'll meet you there. There's somebody I want to see before I go.

                        **************************************************************************************

Taylor: Dr. Maclaine, is it?

Mark: Yes.

Taylor: I'm Dr. Hayes. Tell me exactly what you did to me.

Mark: So, how much did your husband tell you?

Taylor: The bullet severed an artery.

Mark: The septal.

Taylor: You did an arterial graft?

Mark: Yeah, we repaired the mitral valve. The blood was regurgitating from the left ventricle to the atrium.

Taylor: What was my ejection fraction?

Mark: It was 11%.

Taylor: 11? I could've had a stroke.

Mark: It was a concern. We did a quadrangular resection of the posterior leaflet, we reattached the ruptured chordae and we implanted an annuloplasty ring. There was no residual incompetence.

Taylor: So it'll -- it'll be a while before you know.

Mark: If it works? You know, your heart rate right now is our key indicator. And so far, it's been remarkably stable. If we can keep in control and under 90 for the next couple of days, well, chances are good you'll have a full recovery.

Taylor: Under 90? So for the next 48 hours --

Mark: It's critical, but I am very hopeful. Dr. Cooper's gonna want to know you're awake. I'm sure he's gonna want to run some more tests.

Ridge: Kids! Thomas, Steffy, Phoebe. Where are you guys?

Thomas: Dad!

Ridge: Hey, big guy. Come here.

[ Speaking at once ]

Steffy: Daddy, daddy!

Phoebe: Daddy!

Ridge: Girls, hey. Guess what? Your mommy's okay, she woke up!

Phoebe: She did?

Ridge: Yes, she did, and you're never gonna guess what did it.

Steffy: What?

Ridge: Stinky did it! Stinky woke her up!

Stephanie: Steffy's blanket?

Ridge: Yeah. Yeah. You are a little miracle worker!

Thomas: Does that mean we can go visit mom now?

Ridge: Yes, that's why I came back here, to get you guys. But we have to get cleaned up first. In fact, you know what mom said? She said that I looked and smelled worse than stinky.

[ Laughing ] can you imagine that? Come on, let's get cleaned up, and we'll go. Come on, hurry up.

Stephanie: Is she really all right?

Ridge: She's back to her old, smart-aleck self, Mother.

Stephanie: Oh, honey.

Brooke: Taylor?

Taylor: Hi, Brooke.

Brooke: Oh, my god. I was so scared, but you're okay. Is this all right? Are you tired?

Taylor: No, no. Please stay.

Taylor: How are you?

Brooke: Better. They've released me already.

Taylor: What's wrong?

Brooke: I'm sorry. I'm just so glad that you're all right.

Taylor: I know it's been upsetting, everything you've been through.

Brooke: Me? I'm fine.

Taylor: Well, maybe that's the part that's upsetting you -- survivor guilt.

Brooke: Well, if I hadn't walked in to that room when I did --

Taylor: Put the blame where it belongs -- on Sheila.

Brooke: I can't believe you're counseling me from your hospital bed.

Taylor: You know, if you need legitimate reasons to feel guilty, I can provide you with a long, long list.

Brooke: I'm sure you can. Thank you. But actually, I have Stephanie in my life for that.

[ Taylor softly laughs ]

Brooke: It's funny. A stranger walking in here would think that we are old friends.

Taylor: We've been through the wars together.

Brooke: Problem is, we've been warring on each other, and I'm really embarrassed about that now.

Taylor: Why?

Brooke: You know why.

Taylor: Go ahead and tell me.

Brooke: I'm sorry for the way I've treated you. You were right all along. You are the one for Ridge. You're exactly what he needs -- a grown-up. And you're such a great mother to his children. I never would have been that. I mean, I've proved it with my own kids.

Taylor: You're talking about you and Bridget?

Brooke: I let her down. The same way I let everybody down, being selfish and immature, and chasing after my own happiness.

Taylor: Don't. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Brooke: You know, the whole family was terrified at the thought of losing you. We all rely on you so much, Taylor. Now, if it was me laying here in this hospital bed --

Taylor: Brooke, your children. They need you desperately. Your baby needs you.

Brooke: Well, they need me to be a different person than I've been.

Taylor: You're working on that.

Brooke: Yeah, I hope so.

Taylor: I know so.

                        **************************************************************************************

Stephanie: I had no idea, really, until just now how frightened I was.

Ridge: I was at that hospital, Mother, and there was nothing. Just nothing. For one god-awful moment, I let myself think -- what would I do? What the hell would I do? Almost hurled myself out the window. And that's when it happened, she comes to. She wakes up. Isn't that just like Taylor? The moment I need her most.

Stephanie: You've had a lot of moments with her.

Ridge: How could I have known what she would do for me? How she would change me. I had no clue what would be in my life. And I had no clue what it would be like to lose it.

Stephanie: Well, thankfully, you still don't.

Ridge: It was a narrow miss, Mother. We are so damn lucky. I'm so lucky. And you know who else is lucky? Sheila carter, because i would've killed her with my own hands.

Stephanie: Don't think about Sheila, please. Just be grateful for what you still have. I'd better call Jack.

Ridge: Oh, yeah.

Stephanie: Let him know that she's all right. Did you have a chance to see Eric?

Ridge: No, would you spread the good word to him? I'm gonna go take a shower.

Stephanie: Absolutely.

Phoebe: I want to wear it!

Steffy: I should get to! My blanket woke her up.

Phoebe: That's not fair!

Ridge: You know who's gonna wear this? I'm gonna wear it. What do you think?

Phoebe: Daddy, you can't wear that!

Ridge: Why not?

Phoebe: Too small.

Ridge: It's not too small. I know when a dress is too small. Who's the fashion designer in this house, anyway? Come on, you guys. Let's get upstairs.

Stephanie: Thank you. Thank you.
