C.J.: Thanks a lot, you guys. Good night. Have a good one.
Bridget: Closing up early tonight?
C.J.: Uh -- yep.
Bridget: Why?
C.J.: I have my reasons. Where's your friend? Did she go home?
Bridget: No, she's still upstairs. We're just hanging out. But you're still going to be available tonight, right?
Bridget: I said I would. You're really excited about this.
C.J.: No. I mean -- look, Bridget, really, it's no big deal.
Bridget: Okay.
C.J.: Okay.
Bridget: See you later.
C.J.: See ya later. Okay, Darla, she's gone. Come on, come on, come on! We don't have much time.
Darla: All right.
C.J.: Please don't drop that. Thank you so much.
Darla: Here you go.
C.J.: She's gonna love this.
*******************************************************************************
Doctor: I'm going to ask you a few questions.
Erica: Okay.
Doctor: Do you know what month it is?
Erica: August.
Doctor: And what's your apartment number?
Erica: Seven.
Doctor: Okay. And what's your dad's first name?
Erica: I don't know. Not because of my head injury or anything. I just -- I really don't know. I never have.
Doctor: I'm sorry.
Erica: No, it's okay. Hey.
Rick: Hey.
Doctor: You seem to be doing much better.
Rick: Does that mean that she can go?
Doctor: Yep. But I still want you to take it easy for a few days. If the symptoms return -- the headache, the nausea -- you call me.
Erica: Okay. Thank you.
Doctor: I'll go sign your release forms.
Erica: Okay.
Rick: Bye.
Doctor: Bye.
Rick: So, you ready to go home?
************************************************************************************
Taylor: Hi.
Amber: Hi.
Taylor: I thought you were going to ask Rick to dinner.
Amber: He wasn't home.
Taylor: Still at the office?
Amber: No. I called there and they said that he had gone to the hospital.
Taylor: To visit Erica?
Little Eric: Erica!
*************************************************************************************
Taylor: You know what? You forgot this. Here, you don't wanna leave this behind. Here. Here you go. At least it gives you a few more hours with your son.
Amber: I was really looking forward to us being together again, as a family. And instead, Rick is with the woman who's trying to break us up.
Taylor: Amber --
Amber: I know, I know. Rick doesn't believe she has anything to do with drugging me, or even that I was drugged at all. And if I keep harping on it, it's only going to make him madder. But, Taylor, I know she's involved. She wanted to cause problems between me and Rick. And it's working.
[ Amber sighs ] I've got to find some way to stop her.
************************************************************************************
Betsy: What about this one?
Bridget: No.
Betsy: Why not? I think it's sexy.
Bridget: Exactly. That's totally the wrong message. Betsy, how many times do I have to tell you? This is not a date. I'm not ready for that. And neither is C.J.
Betsy: All right. Ooh! How 'bout this?
Bridget: No.
Betsy: Why not?
Bridget: It makes me look fat.
Betsy: Yeah. But it's not a date.
*********************************************************************************
C.J.: Yeah, put that over there.
Scott: Hey.
C.J.: Scott, you made it. Great. You look great, but I got a really groovy Hawaiian shirt for you around the corner there, so why don't you get changed, okay?
Scott: All righty.
C.J.: Awesome.
Darla: Uh, Ceej --
C.J.: So he's great, right? I mean, from a woman's perspective?
Darla: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah -- he's great. He's great. But he's not you. And you're the one that Bridget wants to be with.
C.J.: Darla, listen. Even if that were true -- which it isn't -- the last thing Bridget needs in her life right now is somebody as confused and messed up as I am, okay?
Darla: Ceej, what are you talking --
C.J.: Look, if you're not going to help me, just go and I'll do everything myself. Okay?
[ Darla scoffs ]
[ blender running ]
C.J.: Oh, I'm sorry. What was that, Darla?
Darla: Ceej, I don't --
[ blender running ]
C.J.: Sorry, I couldn't hear you. The blender.
Darla: Oh, yeah.
C.J.: Hey, that's what I'm talking about. You look great, man.
Scott: Thanks.
C.J.: So, you ready for this?
Scott: I guess.
C.J.: Look, it's no big thing, okay? She's a really great girl. She just got her heart stomped on. And I just want you to show her a good time. All right. Take it slow. Don't move too fast. She just needs to be reminded that there are still some good guys out there. You know, no baggage or headtrips.
Scott: Sounds easy enough.
C.J.: No, I don't think you'll have a problem with that at all. So, I guess we're all set.
Darla: You're really going to go through with this?
C.J.: Darla, quit worrying, okay? This is exactly what Bridget needs.
Darla: Okay. Scott, can I show you the poo poo platter? Right over here.
Betsy: Tonight is exactly what you needed.
Bridget: Betsy, come on, you're making way too big a deal out of this. You know what, you're starting to make me a little nervous. Oh, my god. I have butterflies.
Betsy: That's not because of me, Bridget. That's because of C.J.
Bridget: Oh, please. My brother's dorky friend.
Betsy: Yeah. And your brother's dorky friend has grown up, in case you haven't noticed. And he's cute. And he's fun. So why are you trying to talk yourself out of this? You know, it wouldn't kill you to have some fun. Let him stroke your ego a bit. You could use that. Hell, you deserve that.
Bridget: Maybe I do.
Betsy: 'Atta girl. He wants to show you a good time, so let him. And after that, who knows?
********************************************************************************************
Rick: I have something for you.
Erica: Oh! Oh, how cute! It's our kite stuck in a tree. I miss Eric. Who's been taking car of him?
Rick: He's spending the day with Amber.
Erica: Oh. That's good. I'm sure she really misses him a lot. I've only been away from him a day and I can't stand it.
Rick: Yeah, he really sucks you in, doesn't he? I can't tell you how excited he is about having you recuperate at our house.
Erica: Um -- are you sure about that? I could still just go home.
Rick: No way. No, I mean, unless you want to be with your mother.
Erica: No, not really.
Rick: She never came?
Erica: She didn't even call.
Rick: That is so weird.
Erica: Yeah, well, that's my mom.
Rick: Well, I think you're going to have an absolutely wonderful time at our house. And you know, as long as you don't mind Eric coming into your room and checking on you, like, 100 times a day.
Erica: No, I'm gonna love it. Rick, thank you. I mean, so much for everything. You really are my only friend in L.A.
**********************************************************************************
Taylor: Oh, James, I am so sorry. If there's anything I can do, anything -- absolutely anything at all, would you please call me? All right, hang in there. I'll talk to you later.
Amber: Taylor, you're never gonna guess the mess that the girls got Thomas and Eric into -- what's wrong? Who was that on the phone?
Taylor: James. James Warwick.
Amber: Well, is everything all right?
Taylor: His father just passed away.
Amber: Oh, Taylor, I'm sorry. Had his father been sick?
Taylor: No, it was pretty sudden.
Amber: Well, expected or unexpected, I guess there's really no way to prepare yourself for losing a parent.
Taylor: Yeah, I think the loss is especially difficult for James because his father was the only family he really had left.
Amber: I still can't believe the way Sheila ran off with her daughter like she did.
Taylor: No, James will never get over losing Mary.
Amber: Well, how could he?
Taylor: You know, it's got to be awful for James knowing that someone like Sheila was raising his daughter all this time.
Amber: Makes you wonder what kind of person Mary turned out to be.
*************************************************************************************
[ Phone rings ]
Erica: Hello?
Sheila: Hi, honey.
Erica: Mom?
Sheila: Is everything okay? I thought you'd be home by now.
Erica: How would you know? It's not like you've talked to me.
Sheila: You're angry with me.
Erica: I just don't get it, Mom. I mean, your only daughter is in the hospital, and you don't even come by.
Sheila: No, but I did. I came by to see you last night. You were sleeping. I didn't want to wake you.
Erica: You were here?
Sheila: Yes.
Erica: And you didn't leave a note or anything?
Sheila: I didn't think to leave a note or anything, honey. What? You don't believe me?
Erica: It doesn't matter.
Sheila: When are they gonna release you?
Erica: They already have.
Sheila: Good. So you're coming home?
Erica: No, actually, I'm going back to Rick's.
Sheila: You just had a serious head injury. Did the doctor tell you you should go back to work so soon?
Erica: I'm not gonna go back to work right away. Rick just wants me to rest.
Sheila: Oh. Oh, I see. So Rick is gonna help to take care of you?
Erica: Mom, I already know what you're thinking and just stop, okay? The only Rick's doing this is because he feels sorry for me. Look, I'm gonna go. Rick's waiting for me.
Sheila: Wait, wait, wait -- hold on. I want to know how you're gonna handle this.
Erica: What do you mean "handle it"?
Sheila: You're in a position of power right now, sweetheart. You're a victim of Amber's cruelty. If I were you, I wouldn't be in such a hurry to get on your feet, if you know what I mean.
Erica: Yeah, mom, I know what you mean. You want me to pretend that I'm worse off than I am. You want me to manipulate a man who was kind enough to take me into his home --
Sheila: And you're gonna give him a chance to play hero. He's gonna love it.
Rick: Hey, Erica.
Erica: I gotta go.
Rick: Who was that?
Erica: My mother.
Rick: She called?
Erica: Yeah.
Rick: It didn't go well?
Erica: She just never lets up.
Rick: She wasn't telling you to come on to me again?
[ Rick laughs ] she was!
Erica: Can we just not talk about this, please?
Rick: Okay, all right.
Erica: Thank you.
Rick: Come on. Come on. But you know what? Wait a second -- your mom didn't tell you to, like, jump me in the elevator or anything, you know?
Erica: Stop! Get out of here.
Rick: Okay, all right. I'm gonna tell your mother about this and she's gonna be very disappointed.
Erica: Go!
**************************************************************************************
Scott: Yo, Bridget! You ready?
Bridget: I'll be right there.
*****************************************************************************************
Amber: So, Stephanie's on her way over?
Taylor: Yeah, I told her she didn't need to, but she insisted.
Amber: Guess it's time to make myself scarce.
Taylor: No! You don't have to run off just because she's stopping by.
Amber: Look, I know how disappointed she is in me. She has made her feelings abundantly clear.
Taylor: Look, Stephanie's entitled to her opinion, but it doesn't always make her right. Stay!
Amber: I'm sure she needs time to talk about this, too. I know how close she was to James. I mean, I remember when Mary was little, just how much they both loved her.
Taylor: Yeah. I just hope Mary knows how much she was loved.
***********************************************************************************
Rick: All right, this should be comfortable. Now, can I get you anything? Iced tea, lemonade --
Erica: No, I'm good. Thank you. Don't you have to pick up Eric?
Rick: Oh, actually, I'm gonna let him hang out with his mom for a little bit longer. He's probably having a ball. And if he came back here, he'd make a huge racket. And you have to rest.
Erica: Well, he's entitled to make a racket. It's his house.
Rick: What are you doing?
Erica: Setting the alarm.
Rick: Well, you are going to do no such thing. You're sleeping in tomorrow.
Erica: But Eric has a play date.
Rick: It's no problem. You're taking the day off and that is final. I probably sound like your father.
Erica: I wouldn't know.
Rick: Oh. I'm really sorry. That was stupid to say.
Erica: It's okay. Don't even worry about it.
Rick: That must be weird, you know. I mean, here's somebody who's responsible for half of who you are, and yet he remains such a mystery.
Erica: You know, sometimes I feel like he's more than half of who I am. I'm just so different from my mom. At least I try to be.
Rick: Have you ever tried to find him?
Erica: I wouldn't know how. I have nothing to go on. I don't even know his name. When I was little, I thought that he would just show up one day, you know, out of the blue. That's how I got through some of my worst times. I would just tell myself, "you have to get through this. Just one more day, because tomorrow, your daddy's gonna be home." But he never came. I'm sorry.
Rick: It's okay. I'm gonna go get something to eat. You want anything?
Erica: No, I'm okay. Thank you.
Rick: All right. But I'll see you later.
Erica: Rick? Thank you. She flaked on me again, daddy. She left me alone in the hospital if you can believe that. Of course, you've left me alone my whole life.
**********************************************************************************
Darla: So, what now?
C.J.: What do you mean, "what now?" We let Scott take it from here.
Darla: Hmm, and just how far do you think Scott's going to take it?
C.J.: Look, Darla, Scott is a complete gentleman, okay? You don't have to worry about that.
Darla: Oh, please, I'm not worried. Then again, I'm not the one that has feelings for Bridget.
[ Hawaiian music plays ]
Bridget: C.J., This is so -- um -- who are you?
Scott: I'm your date. Scott. I'm a friend of C.J.'S.
Bridget: But I thought -- well, he was -- he did all of this, right?
Scott: Yeah. He set this whole thing up -- for us.
