Stephanie: She's such a good baby. She'll sleep for hours.
Massimo: Where's the mother?
Stephanie: I thought I'd give Brooke the afternoon off.
Massimo: Again? You spend almost as much time with that child as the mother does.
Stephanie: Are you jealous?
Massimo: I haven't been very high on your list of priorities lately.
Stephanie: That's true. I'm sorry. But I know, because you are such a kind and wonderful man, that you understand how much that baby needs me.
Massimo: It has nothing to do with the baby or how much time you spend with Brooke. What I'm talking about here is us. We've been living under the same roof for months. We're trying to share each other's lives. But guess what? There's still a little distance between us.
[ Massimo groans ] I am trying to raise this relationship to the next level. And that's not gonna be possible unless we are equally committed.
Stephanie: I'm trying.
Massimo: You're still wearing Eric's ring.
[ Intercom buzzes ] excuse me. Yes? Oh, good, he is. Yeah, just give me a moment. Sweetheart -- I'm not trying to make you feel guilty, all right? But you know me. When I see a problem -- zap! I go right at it!
Stephanie: And handle it decisively. I know that. I know that. Mass, Brooke's made a lot of mistakes in her life.
Massimo: Mm-hmm.
Stephanie: She doesn't want to make another major mistake with this baby. She needs my help. She's even sworn off men.
[ Massimo laughs in disbelief ]
Massimo: How long do you think that's gonna last?
Stephanie: I don't know. I don't know. But I do know one thing. Losing her daughter, Bridget, has had an extraordinary effect on her.
[ Stephanie sighs ] I just -- I think this might be a major turning point in her life, that's all.
************************************************************************
Whip: So, my bathing beauty, tell me, how we are really feeling?
Brooke: I told you, I'm fine.
Whip: Come on. You've barely said two words since I got here. You're normally gushing, telling me all about the baby -- you know, she rolled her eyes, she touched her toes, she blew a spit bubble the size of a grapefruit. Hey, come on. What's bothering you?
[ Brooke sighs ]
Brooke: It's Bridget. She's still so angry with me. And now she's living above insomnia and working for C.J. Garrison.
Whip: Sally Spectra's son?
Brooke: Yes. He's a very bitter young man. And you know how those people feel about me.
Whip: If you're worried that sally is gonna poison Bridget against you --
Brooke: Oh, no, no. I've already done that myself. It's just that Bridget's been through so much. And to know that she's over there so wounded and so vulnerable, surrounded by those people with nobody to talk to. I mean, you know how sweet she is and how cruel they can be.
************************************************************************
Bridget: Thanks for coming, Ms. Spectra. I know how busy you are.
Sally: You got that right, honey. I'm an extremely busy woman. So why don't we cut right to the snapper. You tell me what you want from me, I will tell you whether or not Ii can do it. And make it snappy, hmm? Because I have just spent the entire morning with Ridge Forrester in my ear on the phone telling me how to run my own business. So I really have no interest in taking orders from his little sister. You got that?
Sally: All right, honey, I'm waiting. What do you want?
Bridget: I need your help with something. It's about C.J.
Sally: C.J.? All right, look, if you're having difficulty working with him -- I mean if you find his attitude impossible, I suggest you just quit this job, pack it in.
Bridget: I want to throw him a birthday party.
Sally: Birthday? C.J. Hasn't celebrated his birthday since his sister, Macy, and his wife, Becky, died.
Bridget: I know. That's why I want it to be a surprise.
Sally: Well, you certainly surprised me, all right. I thought you and C.J. Weren't getting along too well.
Bridget: Well, he's not exactly a ray of sunshine, but he did give me a job and a place to stay. And now I want to help him.
Sally: By throwing him a party?
Bridget: Yeah. I know he's been depressed for a really long time. And I'm not expecting any miracles here. I just thought we could invite his friends and family and give everyone a chance to tell him how much they love him, wish him a happy birthday, force him to have a good time. It could totally backfire, I know. But maybe it'll cheer him up a little.
C.J.: Look, I hate to break up this little tea party, but, Bridget, you've got to get back to work, okay? We're packed.
************************************************************************
Whip: You know, if Bridget couldn't handle working with C.J., She wouldn't be there.
Brooke: It's an unhealthy environment. And you know she's in a very volatile place.
Whip: Well, I can't argue with that. She's mad at you, she's mad at Deacon. Right now, she doesn't want to see either one of you ever again. But she's not letting it bog her down. She's moving on with her life. She's not sitting around the pool feeling sorry for herself.
Brooke: That's not what I'm doing.
Whip: Really? What are you doing? Trying to get a tan? Not with this. What is this, SPF 300, you got on?
Brooke: I was relaxing before you showed up.
Whip: Oh, yeah, I know. I talked to the gardener. He heard you snoring. Is that drool on your lip?
Brooke: Did you come here to annoy me?
Whip: No. Actually, I came by to see the baby. Getting to see you half-naked is just a bonus.
Brooke: Hmm. Well, Stephanie took the baby out for the day. She's been so great. I honestly don't know what I would do without Stephanie.
*********************************************************************
Massimo: Perhaps since Brooke has changed her focus, it will inspire you to change yours.
Stephanie: Well, I'm beginning to believe that anything is possible.
Massimo: Good. Because I am about to prove it. We're ready now.
Admiral: Mr. Marone.
Massimo: Admiral. Stephanie, this is Sherman Perkins. He is the admiral of my fleet and the captain of my personal yacht.
Stephanie: Oh, how do you do?
Admiral: How do you do, Madame?
Massimo: I believe he has a gift for you.
Admiral: Your itinerary, Madame.
Massimo: Open it.
Stephanie: Oh! Portofino? To Porto Vecchio.
Massimo: And that, my dear, is just the first week.
Admiral: From Corsica, we sail up to Monte Carlo, nice, St. Tropez.
Stephanie: Is this a cruise?
Massimo: No, no, no, no. Don't you remember? It's not a cruise. It is the cruise. Remember what we used to talk about back in college?
Stephanie: You remember that?
Massimo: Yes, every detail.
Stephanie: But that was just a daydream.
Massimo: Not anymore. We are leaving for Milan the day after tomorrow. The yacht is docked in Portofino. After that, it is up to you. The entire Mediterranean is ours to explore.
*******************************************************************************
Sally: You know, C.J., I really don't see the point of owning your own place if you can't relax and enjoy it once in a while. Will you please sit down and talk to your mother?
C.J.: Look, mom, I'd love to, okay, but I can't. Take a look around. We are slammed right now. Bridget, there are at least three tables and probably more that need to be cleared. Come on, let's go.
Bridget: I'm on it.
C.J.: Thank you.
Sally: Those tables and their dirty cups do not need to be cleared right now! Bridget is taking care of me.
C.J.: Look, those dirty cups, Mom, happen to be her job, not standing around bugging you.
Sally: Actually, I find her excellent company. You are very charming, my dear.
Bridget: Thank you.
Sally: I think you are exactly what this place needs. You are a breath of fresh air. And you ought to be grateful for that, son.
C.J.: Okay, you got two minutes to keep cackeling with my mom, and then it's back to work.
Bridget: Yes, sir.
C.J.: Good-bye, Mother.
Sally: Good-bye, son. You know something, Bridget? I think this birthday party for C.J. Is a very good idea.
Bridget: Really? Well, if you can get everyone together, we could do it tonight.
Sally: Boy, you don't waste any time, do you? You see a thing that needs doing, and you get right on it. Good. I like that in a person. So, tell me, what can I do to help?
*************************************************************************
Massimo: Thank you, Sherman. Did Sherman wake her?
Stephanie: Oh, no, no, no. She's fine.
Massimo: So, what do you think?
Stephanie: I think that you are the most romantic, thoughtful, wonderful man I've ever known. That you could even remember having a conversation about this in college.
Massimo: How can I forget? We were supposed to meet at the quad so that we would have lunch. You had finished your French midterms. You were exhausted. And we talked about how we wanted to get away.
Stephanie: You asked me, if I could go any place in the world, where would I go.
Massimo: Right. So, I thought, for one of the greatest adventures in your life, where would you go?
Stephanie: Portofino.
Massimo: Ah! Now, I know that you were there recently with your sister. But, with me, it will be a completely different adventure.
Stephanie: Oh, believe me, I have no doubt about that. I'm just not sure it's the right time.
Massimo: Stephanie, you have no idea how long I have been planning this trip for just the both of us, okay? Together alone, no one to bother us, no interruptions. You know, it's become clear to me that, if we want this relationship to progress, I have got to get you out of this town.
Stephanie: Is that what this is all about? I mean, you feel that you have to get me away from Eric?
Massimo: No, no, no, no, no. This is about us -- you and me -- what we need. Forget about Eric, Brooke. And, listen, let me tell you something. The world will not stop spinning if you leave L.A. For a couple of weeks.
**********************************************************************
Whip: Stephanie's help means a lot to you.
Brooke: She's been a godsend. Sometimes I think she's the only thing that's been holding me together. And then there's you, of course. You've been wonderful. Thank you for everything.
Whip: I could do a lot more. Look, I told you that I want to be there for you, Brooke. This baby needs a dad. I want to be first on the list.
Brooke: Well, that's very sweet. And maybe someday I'll take you up on that. But, right now, I don't want to get more involved in this relationship, or any relationship, until I know that Ii'm doing the right thing.
Whip: I know, you're a little gun-shy. I understand.
Brooke: No, no, maybe you don't understand. I have to examine everything -- my motives, my feelings. I have to be absolutely certain that I am making the right decision at all times, which means I have to be completely honest with myself.
Whip: Yeah, you still have feelings for Deacon.
Brooke: Well, he is my baby's father. Maybe someday he could be a part of her life. But he's certainly not going to solve my problems -- no man is. Not you, not Deacon, not Thorne.
Whip: Boy, where did that come from?
Brooke: Don't worry, we're just friends.
Whip: He happens to be your ex-husband.
Brooke: Well, I hope that's not your criteria for getting jealous, because I have a lot them. You see, my problem is that I have this pattern. Whenever I get involved with a man, I lose perspective. And I just don't want to do that anymore. I don't want my daughter growing up, having to make excuses for me the same way Bridget did. I want to be in a healthy relationship, one that my daughter could be really proud of.
Whip: Don't worry, it'll happen. And when it does, Mr. Right is gonna be one lucky man. I hope that that's me. Until then, I'm glad that you have somebody that you can rely on.
Brooke: Stephanie is a very wise woman. And she loves my baby very much.
Whip: Boy, I never thought I'd see the day -- Brooke Logan and Stephanie Forrester raising a child together. Talk about your unconventional family.
Brooke: Well, that it is, yes. But we're going to give her a good life. Together, Stephanie and I are going to give her the life that I should have given Bridget.
********************************************************************
Stephanie: It's so thoughtful what you're trying to do. I mean, it's a lovely idea.
Massimo: It's more than an idea, sweetheart. The crew is eagerly awaiting our arrival. All you have to do is say yes.
[ Stephanie laughs ]
Stephanie: Oh, Mass. Oh, honey. I have so many responsibilities here -- Brooke and the baby --
Mmassimo: Brook, what? Brooke? Forget about it. Let Brooke take care of herself.
Stephanie: But I gave her my word.
Massimo: You just told me that she turned a corner, that she swore off men. So, it shouldn't be any problem. Let her hire a nanny until you get back. Unless you're using your commitment to her as an excuse.
Stephanie: For what?
Massimo: To keep me at arms length.
Stephanie: Oh, no. Oh, Mass, no. I adore you more than you can possibly know. I just do. I always have.
Massimo: Look, if you can't say yes, then just think about it.
Stephanie: Of course, I will. How could I not? I'll tell you what I‘ll do -- I'll go and sit and talk to Brooke. And if she's all right with this, if she feels comfortable about my being away, of course, I'd love to go with you.
***************************************************************
Whip: You just can't stop thinking about her, can you?
Brooke: Bridget? No.
Whip: Look, you gotta give her time. She may come around.
Brooke: Well, Ii would do anything for the sake of her happiness. But staying away from her is just killing me.
Whip: Unfortunately, we can't all be happy all of the time.
Brooke: Yeah, I used to think that, too, until I had kids. And then I wanted to remake the whole world and I wanted everything to be perfect again. I didn't want them to feel hurt or sad or disappointed. You don't know what it feels like, Whip, when you realize that you've caused one of your children the greatest pain that they've ever experienced. And I don't want my little girl to go through that kind of anguish, that betrayal.
Whip: What about you? Hmm?
Brooke: I'm gonna just suffer with this guilt for the rest of my life.
Whip: No, no. Bridget is going to be okay.
Brooke: No. Just because she has a job and a place to live doesn't mean she's going to be okay. I saw her. I looked into her eyes in the coffeehouse, and I saw something go up inside of her -- a wall go up. What if she's not just protecting herself against me? What if Stephanie's right? What if I destroyed her faith? Not just in me, but in everyone. If I did that, Whip, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. If she lost her hope and her ability to trust -- and all I can think about is, is she ever going to be able to love again?
