Sally: Oh, Lauren, my darling, you are a sight for sore eyes. I've missed you so much.

Lauren: I've really, really missed you. How you doing?

Sally: Okay. It's been a long, tough year.

Lauren: I know, but a lot has changed, huh? I remember when I worked here, and I never in a million years thought I'd be seeing you standing here. I'm stunned.

Ridge: Well, like you said, a lot has changed. I really appreciate you flying in to meet with us like this.

Lauren: Of course. I'm always happy to come visit old friends -- and new ones.

Massimo: Well, let's hope that this is not just a visit, Lauren, but the beginning of a long and prosperous partnership.

Lauren: You're really serious about this, running Spectra and taking on your father's company?

Ridge: Forrester is my father's company in name only, Lauren. But I don't think I have to tell you that. You've been doing business with them. Is that company anything at all like it was, huh? No. Late shipments, missed commitments, an amateur designing a major line -- when she's not otherwise occupied, that is.

Lauren: Yes, but I had heard that she was back from rehab and ready to work.

Ridge: This week maybe. Next week, who knows? You know Amber. Predictability isn't exactly her forte.

Lauren: No, but that's also why her designs are so fresh. I mean, they're hot sellers.

Ridge: They're trendy, Lauren. They're gonna last one season, maybe two, and then, what's she gonna do for an encore, huh?

Lauren: Well, that's something I've been thinking about myself.

Sally: You should think about it, Lauren. You should. Because word is already getting around the rag trade that Amber may be a one-trick pony and that that collection of hers is a flash in the pan. It's different at Spectra. We are the successful alternative. We have a dream team of designers now. We've got Clarke garrison, we've got Antonio Dominguez, and now we've got Ridge Forrester. Any one of them has more talent, drive, ambition and style than that little girl could muster in an entire lifetime. Then you add to that the best in brand-new equipment, machinery, cutters, production staff a the finest of fabrics, the best publicity department in the world. You put all that together, and what have you got, huh? I'll show you. Take a look at this. Go ahead.

 Lauren: Hmm.

Sally: So what did I tell you?

Lauren: You haven't lost your touch.

Ridge: Just carrying on my father's legacy, Lauren, which I'm sure you understand, as you've taken over your father's business he left to you. Now you're protecting his name and reputation.

Lauren: But you realize in 30 years, Fenmore's has never rejected a Forrester line.

Ridge: Amber's line is not Forrester. It's "the new face of Forrester" -- a complete mockery of everything that's come before. Lauren, if we're successful at this, which we will be, my father's gonna thank us. And if I didn't believe that, we wouldn't be doing it. And now, I need to know. Are you with me?

**************************************************************************************

Kristen: Well, welcome back.

Amber: Thank you, and thank you both for covering for me while I was gone.

Kristen: Oh, I -- I hope you weren't worried about your line.

Amber: No, no. I was just focused on getting well.

Eric: Good.

Amber: And now I'm ready to go back to work.

Eric: Well, come on. Let's get you up to speed.

************************************************************************************

[ Door opens ]

 Rick: Oh, hey, Megan.

 Megan: Yeah?

Rick: Have you talked to my mom?

 Megan: Uh, not since yesterday.

Rick: She didn't come home last night.

Megan: Well, she was gonna spend the night up in Big Bear with Bridget.

Rick: Well, that's weird. She didn't say anything to Whip.

 Megan: She didn't?

Rick: No, and he's really worried. I mean, she's very pregnant.

Megan: Yeah, well, I'm sure she's fine, Rick. I mean, we'd know if there was a problem, right? So don't worry.

 Rick: Yeah, I guess so.

Thorne: Rick, Amber. Hey, guys, good to have you back.

 Amber: Oh, thank you.

Thorne: I need to talk to you.

Rick: What, is this about Amber's line?

 Thorne: Yeah.

Amber: Is it bad news? You don't have to protect me, Thorne.

Thorne: All right. We have a problem. I just got off with the buyer from Fenmore's. Turns out the reason why he hasn't placed his order yet is because Lauren told him not to, at least until he heard from her.

Eric: Did you talk to Lauren?

Thorne: I tried. She's out of town, in L.A. As a matter of fact. She's meeting with Sally Spectra.

**************************************************************************

Stephanie: Hello there.

Bridget: Good morning.

Stephanie: Is it?

Bridget: Yeah. Yeah, it is. The first day of the rest of my life.

Stephanie: I take it that Deacon is not here?

Bridget: Oh, no.

Stephanie: Well, how did that go?

Bridget: It was pretty simple. I -- I told him I knew and that I wanted him gone. And I made it pretty easy for him to pack when I burned all his things.

Stephanie: You didn't?

Bridget: Yeah, yeah. Childish, but really satisfying.

[ Stephanie laughs ]

Stephanie: Well, good for you.

Bridget: He's probably with my mother right now.

Stephanie: I don't think so. When I left your mother, she wasn't too eager to see him.

Bridget: She's back home?

>> Stephanie: No. She's actually at your father's guest house, but Eric doesn't know it yet. I thought she needed some time alone with the baby to think things through. I always get very upset with myself whenever I have high expectations of your mother, but this time, hoping against hope it might turn out to be a turning point for her.

Bridget: It certainly was for me.

Stephanie: What do you think you want to do now, honey?

Bridget: I want to go back to school.

 Stephanie: Oh, that's wonderful.

Bridget: Yeah, which means I'll need a job.

 Stephanie: Oh, no more modeling?

Bridget: No. I'm so done with that. And, uh, I'm gonna need a new place to live.

Stephanie: Well, before you do anything, would you do me one big favor?

 Bridget: What?

Stephanie: Would you call your father?

***************************************************************************

Rick: Lauren's holding off on her orders and meeting with Sally Spectra, and you think there's a connection?

 Thorne: I know there is.

 Eric: How do you know?

Thorne: Because after I got off the phone with him, I finally got in touch with our buyer at Saks. We've been playing phone tag all week, dad. I thought he was gonna finalize his order. He's not. They've committed their shelf space to another line.

 Megan: Not Spectra?

Thorne: Yes, Spectra. Then Cathy called.

Amber: Who's that?

Rick: That's the buyer from Bergman's.

Thorne: She's very, very, very sorry, but she's lost confidence in the ambrosia line. She's going with Spectra.

Eric: What the hell is going on?

Thorne: I'll tell you what's going on, dad. They've launched a full-scale attack. And we're supposed to start shipping by Monday, and I don't have a commitment from one damn buyer! Half of these people don't even return my phone calls! This has never happened before!

Rick: This doesn't make any sense! We've had relationships with these stores for years, and now Sally turns them all against us overnight?

Megan: Wait a second. Could she be paying them off?

Thorne: Some of the small chains, maybe, but that's not the way Fenmore's operates.

Eric: Sally doesn't have that kind of money, even if they did.

Amber: Is it me? Is it the bad publicity?

Kristen: Oh, honey, no. Other designers have had personal problems. And this -- this is almost unheard of.

[ Phone rings ]

Amber: Well, what are we gonna do, huh?

Rick: We're gonna change their minds.

Amber: How?

Rick: We're gonna meet with them, okay? We're gonna show them your sketches, and we're gonna convince them that they're making a terrible mistake.

Thorne: Rick, it's too late for that.

Rick: Well, we have to do something, Thorne. We have millions of dollars in inventory stored in warehouses and no place to sell it.

Kristen: Where are you going?

Eric: It's Bridget. She needs me.

Rick: What? Wait a minute. Dad --

Eric: No, we'll discuss this when I get back. Megan, clear my schedule, will you?

 Rick: How could this happen?

Thorne: I don't know. I just don't know. I mean, I thought it was a little weird that we didn't have any confirmed orders, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about. There was no sign of this coming at all.

Amber: Kristen, you were over at Spectra, and you didn't notice anything unusual, did you?

Rick: Oh, my god. You knew. You knew this was going down, and you didn't tell us?

Kristen: I had no idea that they would get us pulled from the stores. I thought they would have the guts to compete with us fairly.

Rick: Wait. Spectra compete with us? They've never even been in the same league.

Thorne: Well, obviously that's changed. They've got a lock on every major retailer.

 Amber: How'd they do it?

 Kristen: I don't know.

Rick: Are you telling the truth?

 Kristen: Yes.

Rick: Come on, Kristen. Your husband works there. You've got to know more.

Kristen: I knew that Spectra was putting out a good line.

Rick: And you didn't think that we deserved to know that?

Kristen: What difference would it have made?

Rick: We could have been prepared. We could have expected Sally to do something like this. It's just like her -- it's sneaky and it's underhanded.

Kristen: Sally isn't the one behind it.

Amber: I thought you didn't know anything about it.

Rick: What, now you know who's behind it? What else are you not telling us, Kristen? Have you been in on this since the beginning?

Kristen: I am not in on anything, Rick! I knew that Spectra was planning a major offensive. I didn't know the details, and I didn't want to know.

 Rick: Well, why not?

Kristen: Because I'm not your spy. How would you feel if Tony told our secrets to Sally?

Rick: What makes you so sure he hasn't?

 Kristen: Excuse me?

Rick: It's a valid question. They obviously have something on us.

 Thorne: Rick, buddy, come on.

Kristen: I'll tell you how you know -- because there's this little thing, and it's called integrity, and Tony has it. He would never ask me to betray someone I love, like you have. You are unbelievable. After all the hours that I have put in on this line, everything I've done for you and Amber, and you have the nerve to accuse me of being against you?

Rick: Well, it makes sense, doesn't it? I find out you're keeping all these secrets from us.

Kristen: I never wanted to be in the middle of this. It's you who put me here. If you want to know what's going on over at Spectra so bad, then why don't you go over there and ask yourself? Rick: Fine, I will. Come on, Amber.

 Kristen: You should go, too.

[ Kristen sighs ] Ridge, what are you doing to us?

*********************************************************************************

 Lauren: These are breathtaking, really.

 Ridge: Thank you.

Lauren: Some of your best work, and that's saying something.

Ridge: Well, I was highly motivated.

Lauren: So I gather. You know, your father and I go way back.

Ridge: Yeah. My father and I go way back, too.

Lauren: Have you thought about what this is gonna do to him? I mean, he raised you to run that company, and now you're working to bring that company to its knees.

Ridge: Lauren, you let me worry about my relationship with my father. You're a businesswoman being offered an incredible business opportunity here. You can get in on the debut of the most creative fashion line to hit this industry in years, or you can stick with Amber. I'm sure she's got a good two to three weeks of shelf life left in her. So where do we stand?

Lauren: Do you think that I could pass up these kinds of designs?

 Ridge: Absolutely not.

>> Lauren: You're right. Count me in.

[ Claps ]

Ridge: Good to be doing business again with you, Lauren.

Lauren: Always a pleasure to be doing it with you. But I can't keep this a secret from Eric. I need to tell him. I respect him too much.

Ridge: That's okay. 'Cause as things stand now, all the pieces are in order.

Sally: They certainly are, and I can just imagine young Rick. He is going to blow his top when he finds out what's been going on right under his nose. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him burst through that door anytime now, loaded for bear.

Ridge: I for one am looking forward to it.

****************************************************************************

 Eric: Stephanie?

 Stephanie: Hi.

Eric: Bridget called me.

Stephanie: I know.

Eric: Well, what's going on?

Stephanie: I think it's better if she tells you about it.

Eric: Is she all right?

Stephanie: Yes, Eric, she's fine. As a matter of fact, she's probably better than she's been in a long time.

 Bridget: Hi, dad.

 Eric: Hey. Hey.

Eric: Bridget, your phone call frightened me.

Bridget: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.

 Eric: Is everything okay?

Bridget: Yes and no. Can we sit down? I have some good news for you. Deacon and I are finished.

 Eric: You're serious?

Bridget: Yeah.

Eric: What happened?

Bridget: Uh, is it enough if I just tell you that you were right about him all along, and I know that now, and -- and I'm really sorry for what I put you through?

Eric: Oh, honey. So this is what you were so upset about, why you were crying?

Bridget: Yeah.

Eric: Are you okay? Did he hurt you?

Bridget: Not the way you're thinking.

Stephanie: Eric, she doesn't want to dwell on this. She just wants to get on with her life.

Bridget: I think I have a pretty good life ahead of me.

Eric: Well, I would say so. Without him holding you back, you can do anything you want. I'm just glad you're safe and we have you back. I have you back.

*******************************************************************************

[ Buzz ]

Sally: Sally Spectra. You don't say? They got here that fast, huh? All right. Yeah. Send them in. I'm ready for them. And be sure and let our chief know they've arrived, hmm?

Rick: All right, Sally. What the hell is going on?

Sally: Oh, my goodness. What rudeness. Whatever happened to that famous Forrester diplomacy, or did that belong only to the old Forrester? If so, that's a pity, because that is one of the few things you should have tried to hold onto.

Amber: Sally, we know what you've done.

Sally: Do you, honey? Is that why you're here? To congratulate me?

Rick: We're here to tell you that you're not gonna get away with it. Getting us booted from the stores, it's probably illegal.

Sally: Gee, that's funny. The last time I looked, there was no law against giving a customer a superior product. This is no reflection on your work, Amber. I hear it's pretty good, but let's face it, it is a debut collection. There is absolutely nothing to indicate that you will be able to go on doing that kind of work when you're competing with the kind of top-notch designers we have here at Spectra.

Thorne: Sally, it doesn't matter how good your designs are if you can't produce them. And you don't have the manufacturing capability to handle these accounts.

Sally: Is that so, huh? Well, listen, Thorne, you've been around the game awhile. I know you've been dealing with the top people at the big stores -- Saks, Bergman's, Fenmore's. You think they don't know what they're doing? You think people like that would offer us this job and sign on with us if they didn't think we were capable of doing it?

Rick: Fenmore's? You got Fenmore's?

 Sally: Yeah, honey, this morning.

Rick: How are you doing this, Sally? Where are you getting the money?

[ Sally laughs ]

Sally: Oh, come on. It's easy to get money if you have the right connections. You know, maybe somebody gave me a hot tip on a horse and it came in first and paid 45-1. Or maybe I broke the bank at a casino in Las Vegas. Or just maybe I went off and got myself married to a nice, wealthy, older man and then held him up for more than half of everything he owns. Oh, no, wait a minute. That's not me. That's how your mother did it.

Rick: So help me, Sally --

Sally: What, what? Come on. Save the temperament, save the anger. Save it for my boss.

 Thorne: Your boss?

Sally: Yeah. We've had a change in management around here, or hadn't you heard?

Rick: What are you talking about?

Sally: See for yourself. The boss is standing right behind you.

Ridge: Told you to watch your back, Ricky-boy.
