Sheila: I had to do it. They had my baby trapped in that house and I have to get her out. God, how'd this happen again? How did they get their hooks in her?
Erica: You okay?
Sheila: Oh, me, I just -- I cut myself.
Erica: Is it bad?
Sheila: No, no, it's not. It's not too bad. Oh, look at you, you look beautiful.
Erica: Thank you.
Sheila: I'm really sorry I got so mad last night.
Erica: Well, I shouldn't have left town without letting you know. I mean, I'm sure you were scared to death.
Sheila: Yeah, I was.
Erica: Well, you can see now that I am great.
Sheila: You don't really think I'm going to let you go through with this crazy scheme of yours, do you?
Erica: Mom, it's not crazy, okay? I don't like that word any more than you do.
[ Knock at door ]
Erica: It's okay. Who is it?
Ziggy: Ziggy.
Erica: My landlord. You remember, the guy you hit over the head last night?
Sheila: I'm not here.
Erica: Fine. Hi, Ziggy, I'm kind of in a hurry. It's my first day at my new job. We'll just take a minute of your time.
Erica: Who are you?
Officer #1: LAPD.
************************************************************************************
Rick: How many of those are you taking these days?
Amber: None. I just quit.
Rick: Good. I was beginning to worry that those had something to do with your mood swings.
Amber: They probably did. That and the postpartum hormones. But I'm feeling a lot better today. Especially after our little talk last night.
Rick: Good, honey. I'm glad.
Amber: You were very patient with me. And I know I w being irrational last night, worrying about Erica. She seems like a very nice girl.
Rick: Well, they did hire her at Zende's school. You know? They wouldn't have done that without checking her out. Fingerprints, all that stuff.
Amber: Yeah. Yeah, you're probably right. I better get going. I want to say good-bye to Eric before I go. You know, it's really going to be hard leaving him here?
Rick: Yeah.
***************************************************************************************************
Stephanie: Busy?
Massimo: That depends. Is this going to be good news? Uh, no, it's not.
Stephanie: Well, I didn't realize that I was doing film at 11:00. I thought I was just going to come in here and have a nice conversation with you about my discussion with Eric.
Massimo: I already know everything I need to know. You're still wearing his ring.
*************************************************************************************************
Erica: You called the cops?
Ziggy: No.
Officer #1: One of your neighbors was concerned. Said she heard a commotion.
Erica: I'm sorry about that. I don't know why she did that, I'm fine.
Officer #1: Do mind if we come in for a minute?
Erica: I am really in a hurry, officer.
Officer #2: We just want to make sure you're all right. Is there some reason you don't want us to come in?
Erica: No. No, check it out for yourself. No corpses. No stolen goods.
Officer #2: So, who caused the disturbance last night?
Erica: That was my mother.
Ziggy: So, it was your mom who trashed the place?
Erica: She didn't trash it, Ziggy. She just -- she only messed it up a little bit. But --
officer #1: She lives here with you?
Erica: No. She was just visiting.
Officer #2: Just visiting -- and she turned your place upside down?
Erica: She wasn't only visiting. Here's what happened. I borrowed some jewelry without asking her and she just came over to look for it, that's all. And she found it, so, now everything is okay. So can we please all just get on with our lives?
Officer #2: Where is your mother now?
Erica: I have no idea.
Ziggy: Okay, the lady's answered your questions. She's obviously fine. So we're done here, right?
Officer #1: Thanks for your time.
Erica: Bye.
Ziggy: Thank you, officers. Sorry about that.
Erica: It's not your fault.
Ziggy: You don't seem to feel very comfortable around cops.
Erica: Yeah, well, I guess we have something in common then.
Ziggy: I guess we do. So, you taking off?
Erica: Yeah, pretty soon.
Ziggy: Okay. See ya later.
Erica: All right. Bye, Ziggy.
Sheila: That's it, we're getting out of here, right now.
******************************************************************************
Amber: I'm going to miss you today. You know that, right?
Rick: But you're going to have a really good time with Erica. Okay, buddy?
Amber: Yeah, remember Erica? Huh? Your new friend? She's going to come play with you today. You like that? Yeah? Yeah, I want you to be a good boy for her, okay?. Okay. Now, I'm going to come home early, okay? I love you. Give me a kiss.
Rick: All right, come here, buddy. I will leave as soon as Erica gets here.
Amber: Okay.
Rick: All right.
Amber: Bye, baby.
Rick: Bye. All right, buddy, come on. Let's get you ready for the pool, shall we? Uh-oh -- wait a minute. Let's put these things where you can't get to them.
*********************************************************************************************
Erica: Look, Mom, just because you have a thing with cops --
Sheila: Look, I'm tired of your mouth. I'm your mother, and I know what's best for you.
Erica: Yeah, well, if you did, we never would've left L.A. In the first place.
Sheila: After everything I have sacrificed for you --
Erica: Who asked you to? Who asked you to take me out of L.A. And drag me off into the middle of nowhere?! I like it here, okay? I think the people are nice, and I think it's fun!
Sheila: "Fun"? "Fun"? Is that all you care about? What about school? You left in the middle of the semester. How are you going to get into college?
Erica: Amber never went to college.
Sheila: Well, Amber was stupid and ignorant!
Erica: Well, you know what? She's my friend!
Sheila: No, she is not your friend, Erica! None of them are! The Forresters are not like normal people. They don't care about anyone but themselves.
Erica: You don't even know what you're talking about, mom. You don't know them! You just don't want me to have any friends because you don't have any friends. But you know what? I'm not like you, and I'm not going back home! Not now, not ever!
Sheila: Is that how you talk to your mother?
Erica: Look, I'm sorry, okay? God, mom, why do you have to be so mean about Amber? She's important to me.
Sheila: Look, if you think she's so great, then why don't you go work for her?
Erica: You mean it?
Sheila: Yeah, one week, one day of dealing with her, and I promise you, you will be begging me to take you home. It's probably the only way I can get you to forget about this stupid fantasy.
Erica: What are you going to do while I'm gone?
Sheila: I'm going to wait for you.
Erica: Here?
Sheila: Right here.
Erica: Just don't --
Sheila: Do you want this job or not? Because Amber's going to fire your butt if you're late.
Erica: Thank you.
*****************************************************************************************************
Stephanie: Mas, I just -- I wish that you could understand what a confusing and difficult time this is for me.
Massimo: Stephanie, forgive me if I seem impatient, but that's just the way I am. For me, it is black and white. Eric has never shown you respect. He has lost your company. And he put your life in jeopardy with that maniac Sheila.
Stephanie: Well, I don't think that we can hold him responsible for Sheila and all her actions.
Massimo: Oh. Who brought her into your world? A man that would do that, Stephanie, deserves your contempt, not pity. God, let's not even discuss giving him your love.
**********************************************************************************
[ Doorbell rings ]
Rick: Hey, look, buddy! It's Erica! Isn't that cool?
Erica: Oh, look at how cute you are!
Rick: Well, thank you. Oh, you mean him. Did you get my message?
Erica: Yeah.
Rick: Yeah? So you know how to swim and everything?
Erica: Yeah. I was on the team at school. And I know CPR.
Rick: Excellent. Come here, pal. You are in good hands.
Erica: Oh, I should get changed.
Rick: Okay. Yeah, the bathroom's right down there. I'm going to go get this guy some breakfast.
Erica: Okay. See you in a little bit.
Rick: Did I get you a cool baby-sitter or what? Yeah? Give me five. All right.
Rick: I have some phone numbers for you here.
Erica: Okay.
Rick: All right, here's our office number, cell phone, pagers, Eric's doctor. Here's the police station, fire station, the nearest hospital, the second nearest hospital. And you must think we're totally paranoid.
Erica: No. Believe me, I know paranoid. My mother --
Rick: Oh, yeah?
Erica: She's always just convinced that something terrible is going to happen to me.
Rick: She must really love you.
Erica: I don't know about that.
Rick: I do. You can tell when somebody has this basic foundation. You know? A gut-level confidence. And you have it.
Erica: I do?
Rick: Oh, absolutely. All righty, well, I'd better go to work. See you later, buddy. You have fun today. All right. Bye, pal.
Little Eric: C'mon, Erica. Let's go.
Erica: Okay, hold your horses. All right, we're going to go to the pool, okay?
Rick: All right. I'll see you later.
Erica: Come here. Come on, little Eric. We got to get these water wings on you. Come here.
*********************************************************************************************
Sheila: She thinks I'm paranoid. She just doesn't understand. Just one person -- one person recognizes me from my past, and they'd put me back in jail for the rest of my life. They'll send her to live with her father, that bastard. How could I ever be so foolish? Trusting James -- I was going to give up my life for him, but he didn't care.
[ Sheila remembering ]
James: Please don't talk like that. Your life isn't over. Your life is just beginning. Marry me. Marry me.
Sheila: That's what I thought. I thought -- I thought that she would that. I thought that she would have you and me. Then we could give her the love that we never had. We could've done that. James, we were so close. But you didn't want that.
James: Sheila, please. Please come to me.
Sheila: No! No!
James: I'll give you anything you want.
Sheila: There's nothing you can do! Nothing to help me! No! He didn't want me, no. He just wanted Mary. He didn't deserve either one of us. I wonder how you'd feel now, dr. Warwick, if you knew that I renamed your precious little Mary after the only man who really did love me -- Eric Forrester. He was so kind to me. As far as he knew, I was nobody. I was just a nurse. He treated me like a queen. We were married just for a few precious months. But I'll live off those memories for the rest of my life. Because it was the only love, the only joy that I've ever really known. So that's who she is now, Eric -- Erica Lovejoy. And I like to think of her as our daughter.
[ Phone rings ]
Sheila: Erica?
Erica: Hey, Mom.
Sheila: What's the matter?
Erica: Nothing. I was just -- just calling to check on you.
Sheila: I'm all right. I -- I just wish you'd hurry up and get over this thing you're going through.
Erica: Well, I have some bad news for you then. I love my job. Little Eric is so cute, mom. He's so adorable.
Sheila: What about your idol?
Erica: If you mean Amber, she wasn't home. She'd already gone to work. So Rick let me in, and he was so sweet, mom. There's something about the way he looks at me. You know, like he's really listening. And who am I, you know? Just a baby-sitter. But when he's talking to me, he makes me feel like -- oh, god, I don't even know. Like a princess.
Sheila: What did you say?
Erica: I said he makes me feel like a princess. Mom, I got to go. Little Eric is just dying for me to take him in the pool. I'll call you later, okay?
Sheila: No, no, Erica, wait --
[ dial tone ]
[ knock at door ]
Ziggy: Lovejoy! Come out, come out, wherever you are! No? Okay, then I'll just come in with my new key since my old one disappeared last night. Well, now, see, this is what you did last time. Pretended you weren't here, so you caught me off guard. But I know you're in here now. It's just a matter of knowing where to look. Okay. If you don't want to come out and play, then I have to give the police a call, tell them what I know.
[ Sheila screams ]
Sheila: You're not making any calls. That can be your decision -- or it can be mine.
