By Linda Dr. Wilson: I'm going to go find her husband. Wait here until he comes. I don't want her to wake up alone. Thorne: So the baby's fine? Kristen: As far as we know. They told Rick that the heartbeat was normal. Tony: We talked to him just a couple hours ago. Thorne: Well, if there's not a problem with the pregnancy, why did she just collapse? Tony: Well, the doctor said there was a problem with her kidney stone, which would explain her pain. Kristen: Last we talked to them, they were gonna do a C.A.T. Scan just to be sure, and depending on what they find, they might have to operate. Thorne: Oh, man. This poor kid. Kristen: I know. Especially tonight, when she should be celebrating. Thorne: Yeah. Could you believe the reaction to her line? Her first time out, and she gets a standing ovation. Tony: Hey, and she deserved it. I mean, she was good, and her designs were great. They had high energy. Thorne: And that's just the shot in the arm that this company needed, too. Kristen: Exactly. It's gonna take the focus off Brooke and ridge and all their antics. Zende: What's an antic? Kristen: It's a -- well -- Thorne: It's Brooke's specialty. Speaking of Brooke, does she know about this yet? Kristen: I haven't been able to get a hold of her. [ Tony sighs ] Tony: That's ridiculous! The CEO can't just disappear whenever she wants. What if there's an emergency, like now? Kristen: Well, I was hoping that by the time I do get in touch with her that this won't be an emergency anymore. Thorne: Well, maybe so, but Rick could really use his mother right about now. Kristen: No, I know, but I mean, at least he's got Bridget and dad. Thorne: What about mother? Kristen: What about mother? She probably doesn't even know what's going on. Thorne: You didn't call her? Kristen: No, I didn't call her, and I'm not going to. I'm not calling her over at Massimo Marone's. It's too weird. Look, if mother cares about what's going on with this family, then she could be in touch with us. Stephanie: Where's Amber? ********************************************************************************************* Rick: I'm gonna go crazy if I don't hear something. Bridget: She hasn't been in surgery that long, Rick. I know it feels like forever, but they're probably just being extra careful with the baby and everything. Eric: At least you know the baby's all right. Bridget: Yeah, and a kidney stone doesn't sound that serious -- I mean when you think about what it could've been. Rick: She was in so much pain. There was a moment there where I thought we were gonna have this baby today. Eric: Well, thank god you didn't, Rick. It's far too soon. Bridget: Not necessarily. Actually, my friend Laurie's niece was born at 26 weeks. She's doing great. Wouldn't that be something, if the doctor comes in and tells you that your baby was born, and you're a daddy? [ Rick sighs ] Rick: I just hope he stays in there until he's good and ready to come out. Eric: I didn't know the two of you were aware that it's a boy. Rick: No. We don't. We don't know. It's just that "he" sounds better than "it." You know, Amber wanted to wait to find out. Bridget: Didn't she find out the last time? Rick: Yeah, and now she's kind of superstitious. You know, we don't want to do anything the way we did the last time. You know, after losing the first child, she has been so careful. Going to the doctor every two weeks, getting lots of rest -- at least -- except for the past few weeks. Bridget: Rick, a kidney stone has nothing to do with how much rest she's been getting, okay? Don't even go there. Eric: Didn't her doctor say it was all right for her to do the preview? Rick: Yes, yes. Otherwise, I never would have allowed it. Dr. Wilson: Rick, I've been looking for you. Rick: Is Amber out of surgery? Dr. Wilson: Yes, we actually just finished moving her up here to a room. Rick: How is she? Dr. Wilson: Well, she's still unconscious, but it looks like she's going to make a full recovery. Rick: Oh, thank god. Bridget: Oh, Rick, I knew everything was gonna be okay. I knew it. *********************************************************************************** [ monitor beeping ] Nurse: Amber? Can you hear me? Amber: Oh. Nurse: You've had emergency surgery, but you're gonna be all right. [ Amber dreaming ] Rick: It's okay. Amber: It hurts. Rick: Well, that's what happens when you have a baby. Amber: What? Rick: We had a little girl, Amber. She's so beautiful. Amber: But -- Rick: It was emergency surgery. They had no choice, but the baby is fine, and so are you. Amber: I want to see her. Nurse: Here she is. Rick: Oh, my sweet, little angel. Are you ready to meet your mama? She's so beautiful. Amber: Oh! Oh, let me see. Let me see. Rick: Here she is. Amber: Oh! Rick: You and me in one tiny person. Amber: Oh. Look at you! Do you know who I am? Hmm? I'm your mommy! And I love you so much! [ Amber sighs ] Rick -- this is all I ever want in the world. [ Amber laughs ] hi, baby. [ Monitor beeping ] Amber: Baby. ***************************************************************************** Thorne: She's in the hospital. Stephanie: Is it that serious? Kristen: We don't know yet, Mother. They think it might be a kidney stone, in which case both Amber and the baby would be fine. Stephanie: Are they at Cedars? Kristen: Yes. Stephanie: Does anybody want to ride over with me? Kristen: Mother, visiting hours are over. Stephanie: So? I'm just gonna go over there and find out what's going on. Kristen: I'll call you as soon as we know anything. Stephanie: Is there some reason that you don't want me to go to the hospital, Kristen? Kristen: Yes. You have been very angry with Rick and Amber lately, and they both know that. Stephanie: And Amber is like a daughter to me, and she knows that. Kristen: And dad is there. Stephanie: Anybody else want to go? Zende: I do. Tony: We're gonna stay here with your mom. Zende: But I want to go see Amber. Stephanie: Zende, I tell you what -- I'll call you when I find out exactly what's going on with Amber. Zende: Okay. Stephanie: Thorne? Thorne: I have my own car. I'll -- I'll just meet you there. Stephanie: All right. Good night. Tony: Good night. Is something wrong? Kristen: No, I just don't think it's appropriate for her to be going over there tonight. They have enough to deal with. ******************************************************************************************** Rick: So Amber's gonna be fine? Dr. Wilson: Well, this was major surgery. Her recovery may take some time. Rick: Oh, that is -- that is no problem. We are gonna take such good care of her. She is not even gonna get out of bed for the rest of this pregnancy. Bridget: So it was a kidney stone, like you thought? Dr. Wilson: Uh, no. No, that was our initial assumption, based on the intense pain and the location, but the C.A.T. Scan revealed a problem much more serious. Eric: How serious? Bridget: What was wrong? Dr. Wilson: Amber suffered a renal artery aneurysm. That means the artery supplying blood to her kidney ruptured. There was massive internal bleeding, and the C.A.T. Scan picked that up. Her blood pressure had dropped dramatically. She'd gone into acute kidney failure. Immediate surgery was required, Rick, to save her life. Rick: Acute kidney failure because she only had one. Dr. Wilson: That was a contributing factor, yes. Bridget: The rupture was repaired, right? And there's no permanent damage? Dr. Wilson: Well, she's not out of the woods yet, but she's young. She's strong. She'll recover. Bridget: And the baby? Eric: Doctor, how is the baby? Rick: He's okay, right? I mean, they said he was fine. Doctor, tell me the baby is okay. Dr. Wilson: I can't tell you how sorry I am. Bridget: Oh, no. No, no, no. Dr. Wilson: Saving your wife's life was our first priority. That was the only way the baby would have a chance. But Rick, she'd lost so much blood. Rick: But -- but he's fine. The baby is okay. Dr. Wilson: She lost the baby during surgery. Rick: But you said the heartbeat was normal. Dr. Wilson: At the time, it was. Rick: What, what -- he was fine, and now he's dead?! Why didn't you save him?! Eric: Rick. Dr. Wilson: I'm sorry. Rick: Does Amber know? Dr. Wilson: No. I can be the one to tell her. Rick: No, no. It should be me. Yeah. It was the stress, right? It was that stupid fashion show. I should've stopped her. Dr. Wilson: No, listen to me, Rick. Listen very carefully. Now, it's very important that you understand this. There is no way that you or anyone else could've predicted this. Rick: We knew that she needed rest! Dr. Wilson: No, no. This could've happened just as easily at home in her own bed. No, Rick, Amber had a weakness. She had a thin spot in her artery, okay? The pregnancy put an extra demand on the blood vessel, and it ruptured. The fact that she only had one kidney -- yes, it complicated the situation, but you did not cause this, and neither did Amber. Bridget: You said that the artery was repaired, right? Dr. Wilson: Yes, the bleeding has stopped. Bridget: So then -- Amber could try again later? Dr. Wilson: That's something I'll need to discuss with her. Rick: Wait -- wait a minute. You mean, she might never -- Dr. Wilson: Rick, I wouldn't focus on that right now. Eric: He's right. Rick, Am -- Amber's gonna need you. Rick: She was so in love with that baby. She talked to it. She played music. She -- she put the headphones on her stomach. She thought it was a girl. Oh, she would've been so happy. Bridget: Oh, god, Rick. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Rick: How do I tell her? Bridget: Do you want me to come with you? [ Rick sighs ] Rick: No. Is she gonna wake up soon? Dr. Wilson: Yes, anytime now. Rick: I should be in there. Dr. Wilson: You should go right in. [ Rick sighs ] [ Bridget sobbing ] ************************************************************************* Kristen: Yeah, yeah. I'll pick them up tomorrow on my way to the hospital. Thanks, Deacon. Tony: You're taking aAmber her reviews? Kristen: Just the good ones. Tony: They'll all be good. Kristen: Yeah. It's just too bad she has to be reading them in the hospital. Zende: She probably doesn't mind as long as her baby's safe. Kristen: You know, you're probably right. There's nothing more important to her in the world than that little baby. Stephanie: Eric -- what's the news? [ Monitor beeping ] Stephanie: How's Amber? Eric: Amber's all right. It's the baby. Stephanie: Don't tell me she lost the baby. Eric: The baby's gone. Stephanie: But Kristen said everything was all right. Eric: We all thought it was, but there was massive internal bleeding. Bridget: They were operating on Amber, trying to save her, and the baby didn't make it. Stephanie: How is she? Eric: Rick's in there with her now. He -- he has to tell her. Stephanie: Oh, my god. She doesn't know? Oh -- oh, she's going to be devastated. ********************************************************************************************************* Rick: Amber? [ Rick sighs ] you would've loved this baby so much, and she would've been so lucky to have a mother like you. You deserve to be happy. Amber: Hi. Rick: Hi. [ Amber sighs ] Rick: Are you in pain? Amber: Yeah. Rick: You had surgery. Amber: Kidney stone. Rick: They told you? Amber: Mm -- stupid timing. Only me. The same day as the preview. Rick: Yeah. Yeah, that was pretty harsh. Amber: We did it. We did. What'd they say? Rick: Who? Amber: Everybody. The press. Rick: Oh, they loved it, Amber. They said you're the best thing to happen to Forrester in years, and they are right. Amber: Nobody can call me trash now. Rick: No, no. No, not ever again. Amber: Our baby's gonna be so proud of her mom. You were so scared. Rick: Terrified. Amber: I'm fine. Rick: Yes. Yes, you are . The doctor says you're gonna make a full recovery. Amber: So why do you look so sad, hmm? What's the matter ? ![]() Back to The TV MegaSite's B&B Site
