The Bold & The Beautiful Transcript Friday 2/15/02 By Linda Stephanie: All right, I want to hear it. Amber: Hear what? Stephanie: Don't kid with me. I know exactly what's going on. Brooke is hiding something. What is it? Amber: You know, it's -- it's so silly. It's really nothing. Stephanie: That is not what I heard. Amber: What exactly did you hear? Stephanie: I heard her say that she was upset that you found out about this, but as long as you know about it, she wanted you not to say anything to anyone. So what is it? Amber: Stephanie -- I promised, you know? She's my mother-in-law. Stephanie: Well, this is significant. What is it? Amber: I -- I'm sorry. I can't. Stephanie: Amber, listen to me. I'm fighting for the life of my family and this company. I think you know something that will help me. I'm not kidding you when I say this. You're not walking out of this room until you tell me what's going on! What secret is Brooke hiding? ***************************************************************************** Deacon: You guys all look fantastic. Now, listen, we have about an hour, so let's go over this one more time. Brooke is gonna be behind the podium as the reporters are coming in. Whip: Shouldn't she greet the reporters at the door? Deacon: We're not gonna do it that way this time. Whip: Well, that's how we always do it, Deacon. Brooke greets the reporters informally, then Ridge introduces her. It gives her more visibility. Deacon: Well, we're not going for visibility. Whip: Why not? Rick: Because it was Brooke's decision. Whip: Thank you for telling me. Megan: Could we just move on? We don't really have very much time. Deacon: Good. Good idea. Okay, so the models will be milling around, and then we're gonna field a few questions. Brooke will come up and make a brief statement, and at that point, she's gonna turn it over to me and to Rick. You're gonna take it from there. Whip: Rick takes over? Brooke: Yes, Whip. Whip: Why? You're the CEO. Brooke: I want the press to see my new executives functioning. Whip: Well, that's just terrific. Deacon: Hey, Whip, what do you say you work with me on this one? You know, be a team player, huh? Okay, so Rick's gonna field a few more questions, the models move around a little bit more and as they say in the business, it's a wrap. Any questions? Comments? Rick: Are you sure that you don't want to take any questions? Brooke: Not unless I'm specifically asked. Deacon: You know, I think your mother still might be a little wiped out from everything, so I'll tell you what, guys. Let's just see if we can get through this, okay? Rick: All right. Deacon: All right, then. Half hour, back in the showroom, everybody. Break a leg. Whip: Let's go, ladies. ************************************************************************************ Eric: You wanted to see us? Ridge: Close the door. Thorne: What's up? Ridge: I don't think any of us should go to that press conference. Eric: Why? Ridge: Because we have to make a statement, Dad. We can't let Brooke get away with this. Thorne: Ridge, the only statement that we'll be making by not showing up is that we're giving up. Ridge: If we stand up there on that podium next to her, we're endorsing what she's done. I'm not gonna do that. Eric: And if we don't, we're showing the whole world that this family, this company, is in disarray. Now, this company will not survive unless we settle these internal issues, Ridge. Thorne: You've got to let it go, man. Ridge: I can't believe you're telling me to let it go. Look what she's done to me. Look what she's done to all of us, Thorne. Everything we believe in, everything we've fought for, you want to just give all that up, too? Eric: Now, listen to me. We're gonna go downstairs to that press conference, and we're not gonna confront Brooke. We're gonna go down to that showroom and make the best of it. Ridge: I'm the laughingstock of this industry. How am I supposed to make the best of that, huh? Thorne: Ridge, come on. This is gonna blow over in a week. Eric: If we don't make a big deal out of it today. Ridge: Oh, yeah, that's easy for you two to say. Your reputations are intact. I can't believe you're not supporting me. My own family. Eric: Ridge, we are supporting you, but this is delicate. If we don't go down to that press conference, we create a scandal, and that's something that our competitors would love to see. Well, this is not a scandal. This is a change at the top. It happens in companies all the time. Ridge: If this had happened to either one of you, I'd be screaming so loud, there's no way Brooke could ignore me. Eric: I'm sorry you feel that way, Ridge. This isn't really a question of integrity. This is a difference in style. I feel that this situation can be best settled within the family, not in front of the press. Ridge: You're not gonna change Brooke's mind by cozying up to her, Dad. She's made her decision, she's not gonna revoke that. Forrester Creations is now the house of intimate apparel. That's what's gonna happen today. That is not the way you intended it. That wasn't your dream. And if you're not willing to stand up and fight for that dream, I guess you deserve whatever the hell -- Eric: Don't you start telling me about my dreams for this company! Now, we're all gonna go downstairs to this press conference, and we're not gonna confront Brooke. If we do, we'll not only be news in the trades, we'll be news in every paper in the whole country. Because you know what? If you confront Brooke, she will fire back. And you know what she's gonna say? She's gonna talk about how she gave you power of attorney, about how she trusted you and about how you took advantage of that. About how you went behind her back to take control of the board. And right or wrong, that is what we did, and that's not my style. That's yours. Now, you can try to fight Brooke if you want, but you're just gonna dig a deeper hole for yourself. Just give it up, Ridge. Give it up. Now, let's move on as a family. It's the only thing we can do. It's the only sensible solution to this. Ridge: There's only one problem with that, Dad. I don't feel like I'm a part of this family. I don't even feel like I've got the same blood flowing through me. ******************************************************************** Deacon: Hey. How are you holding up? Brooke: This is going to be more difficult than I thought. Deacon: Oh, come on. It's gonna be a piece of cake. Megan: We just have to stick to our plan, Deacon. Deacon: And we will. We just shift the focus to me, to Rick, the models. Brooke: And what if they ask me about this weight gain? Deacon: Brooke, they're not gonna ask you anything, because Rick's gonna be answering all the questions. Brooke: If it looks like I'm hiding, they're going to become suspicious. Deacon: Hey, you're not gonna be hiding. You're just not gonna be center stage. That's all. Look, we've got to remember our first priority here, which is to cover up your pregnancy. They ask about the weight, we laugh, we joke about it, we misdirect it, but we are not gonna allow these reporters to dictate how this press conference goes, because we're going to be doing it. ********************************************************************************* Amber: Brooke will kill me if I tell you. Stephanie: I'll kill you if you don't tell me. Now, don't worry about Brooke. I'll protect you. Amber: Well -- no, I don't want you protecting me from her. I'm married to her son. Stephanie: Does he know about this? Amber: No. Stephanie: Who else besides you? Amber: I'm not sure. Stephanie: Well, there's going to be one more, and that's me. Now, what the hell is it?! I'm telling you, I'm not letting out of here -- Amber: All right, all right, I will tell you! ******************************************************************************** Ridge: There you go, boys. The new face of Forrester. That's what this press conference is about. Eric: No, it's not, Ridge. This is about showing the world that Forrester is functioning normally in spite of all the changes. Ridge: Oh, bull. It's the final nail in my coffin. The new face of Forrester, which means the old one is out. That would be me. Thorne: Oh, Ridge, come on. You're taking this too literally. Ridge: Man, you two are in such denial. You know what Brooke is doing is wrong. You know she's made a fool of me. And yet neither one of you is gonna stand up and say anything! Eric: Ridge, we're fighting for out survival here! Ridge: You're not fighting for a damn thing, Dad! I'm the one that's fighting! Thorne: Ridge, come on, stop the whining, man! You think we enjoy what's going on around here? No, we don't. But the fact is, Brooke is running this damn company now, okay? And there's nothing we can do about it. Ridge: Just go down to the damned press conference. Eric: What are you going to do? Ridge: I'm sure as hell not going down there. Eric: Look, Ridge, if I thought there was any chance of changing Brooke's mind, I would fight her. But there isn't. Ridge: What about doing it for the principle, Dad? Or don't principles mean anything to you anymore? Eric: Oh, come on, Ridge. You're not being fair. Ridge: I'm your son. I've been humiliated. And not just here at Forrester, throughout the industry. And you know what? I can handle that. You know what hurts me? What really gets me right here in my gut? My own father won't even stand up and defend me. That's one of the worst feelings anyone can ever have. I feel betrayed, dad, and not by Brooke. By you! By both of you! Eric: You stay here with your brother. I'll go down to the conference. Thorne: Okay. ********************************************************************************** Rick: Hey. You'll get your chance. Whip: To be Deacon's assistant? Yeah, that's a great opportunity. Rick: Look, Whip, it's not that my mother doesn't appreciate you. Whip: But I'm not family, right? Got to be a Forrester to get anywhere around here. Or at least married to one. Rick: That's not true. Whip: Rick, I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Nobody is more qualified to run this department than me. And about a thousand people are more qualified than deacon. Your mother and I used to be so close. You probably don't know this, but I helped her through a lot of rough times, and some personal stuff, too. We used to talk and -- oh, well. Why am I telling you my problems, huh? You could probably care less. *************************************************************************** Megan: Deacon, I'm worried about her. Deacon: She's gonna be fine. I'll take good care of her. Megan: Okay. She needs that. She does. Deacon: Listen, why don't you go downstairs and give Rick a hand? I'll be down in a little bit. Megan: Okay. Deacon: Thanks. So it's our first big press conference, huh? Well, mine, anyway. Brooke: Just hold me. Deacon: Come here. Come here. It's okay. Hey, let's try this out. You've got nothing to worry about. Nothing at all. Brooke: Deacon, what have I done to you? Deacon: Wait a second, whoa. What have you done to me? Sweetheart, you haven't done anything to me. You've done everything for me. This job, this beautiful baby on the way. Brooke: A baby that you won't be able to claim as your own and a job that's going to just complicate your life. Deacon: Brooke, whether you believe this or not, I have never felt more in control in my entire life. This conference, the company, everything is -- everything is gonna be just fine. Rick and I are in charge. You've got to trust me. You've got nothing to worry about. Nothing at all. *************************************************************************** Stephanie: What is it? Amber: She -- has an eating disorder. Stephanie: What? Amber: That's why she didn't want to tell anyone, you know? Because she was gaining all that weight. Stephanie: An eating disorder? Amber: Yeah, and that's why she went away. You know, to that fat farm? Stephanie: Do you think that I'm stupid? The spa at Ojai is not a fat farm. Amber: Whatever. Anyway, you know, I really have to go to the press conference. Stephanie: You're lying to me! And after everything that I've done for you, all of the love and support that I've -- that I've given you, you're going to take Brooke's side against me? Amber: No, Stephanie, I'm not against you. Stephanie: Has she threatened you? Amber: No. It's just -- this is something that's very personal for her, so can you just leave it alone? Stephanie: Personal for her? What could possibly be personal for her? Is she having an affair with someone? Amber: I don't know. Stephanie: What do you mean, you don't know? You know! Amber: I mean, I guess she could be. I don't know who the man is. Stephanie: What man? Amber: Look -- I've already said too much, and I'm just really not gonna say any more -- Stephanie: It can't be Ridge, because Ridge is so angry with her. He despises her. And I know Thorne won't have anything to do with her. So who could it possibly be? Who could she be having an affair with? Is she pregnant? Oh, my god. She's pregnant. [ Stephanie laughing ] Hallelujah! She's pregnant! [ Stephanie laughing ] yes! ************************************************************************* Deacon: I know you feel like you're in a storm right now. But you're not. I am. And I'm gonna weather it for both of us one day at a time. Brooke: I'm so impressed with the way you're handling this. Deacon: Hey, come on. Piece of cake. Brooke: That's your second piece of cake of the day. You're gonna get fat. Deacon: Yeah, well, you're still gonna love me. Hey, it's okay to say it. Brooke, we both know what can and can't be, and we've accepted it. My life is with Bridget and yours is with this child. But I mean, we can laugh, we can work together. We can admit it to each other. I have to. If I don't, I'm gonna go crazy. And I'm way too busy right now for that. Brooke: Well, you're a lot stronger than I am. Deacon: No, Brooke, you're the strong one. You have to carry this baby, give birth, raise it. What I'm doing, that's -- that's easy in comparison. Brooke: How long can we keep it a secret? Deacon: Um -- why don't we just get through today? Brooke, you just got back. Let's get you back in the house. You can rest. Then we'll -- we'll come up with a plan. Brooke: We can't really wait more than a couple of weeks. Deacon: Hey, whoa, whoa, just stop. Just chill out. I'll take care of everything. Brooke: But you can't. You can't be there with me when I make this announcement. Deacon: Brooke, no one is gonna ever know that I'm the father of this child. I'm not gonna let that happen. But that doesn't mean that you're in this alone. Don't you know? Your pain is my pain. Your troubles are my troubles. I love you, Brooke, and I love this child. The world may never know that, but you're gonna know it. 'Cause I'm never gonna let you forget it. ********************************************************************* Thorne: Mother, what is it? Stephanie: The problem with our company may have just resolved itself. Ridge: What are you talking about? Stephanie: You're not gonna believe what I just found out about Brooke. Thorne: What? Stephanie: She was so clever. She thought she had it all covered up. Ridge: Covered what up? Stephanie: You know this weight that she's gained? Thorne: She hasn't gained that much weight, mother. Ridge: You want to tell me what you're getting at here? Stephanie: Yes. Brooke is pregnant.
