Amber: Deacon, it was nothing.

Deacon: You told Little D you love me.

Amber: He was upset because we were arguing. I just didn't want him to think it had anything to do with him, so --

Deacon: You said it. You love me.

Amber: Honey, why don't you go inside and finish your ice cream, okay?

Little Eric: Mommy loves Daddy.

Deacon: Mommy does love Daddy, and Daddy loves Mommy. Why don't you go into the kitchen and have the rest of that cookie dough ice cream? You better leave me a bite.

Amber: Just let it go, okay? It was a slip of the tongue.

Deacon: Come here. Let me show you a slip of the tongue.

Amber: Deacon, cut it out, okay?

Deacon: All these months, Amber -- all these months, I have known that you love me. And now, you know that I know, huh? There's no taking it back. Do you hear me, everybody? Amber Moore loves me! This woman is undeniably, unmistakably -- oh!

Stephanie: You sent Kristen?

Eric: Yes.

Stephanie: Does she know this fellow?

Eric: No. Nobody knows him. He's brand new. He's Latin. He's very, very talented.

Stephanie: I don't understand. Why would you send somebody who's inexperienced in business to make a business offer?

Eric: Well, Kristen is not that inexperienced.

Stephanie: She's a freelance designer. We don't en n know how much she's been working in that area lately. I smell a rat. What's going on here? What's the real reason you sent her over?

Kristen: I can't believe you were gonna cook for me.

Antonio: It's just a tapa. It's called seviche, and you're gonna love it.

Kristen: Tony, it's sweet, but I can't.

Antonio: Why not?

Kristen: I haven't even unpacked my suitcase.

Antonio: Well, let one of your maids do it. I'm sure your mom's got plenty of them.

Kristen: I'm not staying with my mother, and I wouldn't let even a five-star hotel unpack my suitcase.

Antonio: You're staying at a hotel when you have your family here? Why would you be staying at a hotel? You should be staying with them.

Kristen: I don't want to impose.

Antonio: Impose on your family?

Kristen: I just showed up from out of town without any warning.

Antonio: You have to warn your family if you just show up into town?

Kristen: That's not what I meant.

Antonio: Well, that's what you just said.

Kristen: Look, it's complicated, okay, and I don't want to talk about it. Besides, I had a hair and a nail appointment at the hotel that I have already missed, so I am going to have to get going.

Antonio: Well, it just seems to me like you need this.

Kristen: Need what?

Antonio: Like something real, Kristen. This line, this is real. That smile, it's real. You and I in this kitchen, making dinner and laughing, drinking wine -- these are all real things. You know, in Spanish, they say that la vida means almost the same as la cocina, because so many things in life occur in the kitchen.

Kristen: And what happens in the kitchen is real.

Antonio: Wow, you're catching on quick. Now, come on. Sit down. Let me do this for you.

Kristen: Why? Why do you want to do this? You barely know me.

Antonio: You barely know me. You came here to offer me a job from Forrester. Now, I refused. Yes, both of our lives are gonna go on. If you walk out that door, I don't think we're gonna see each other again.

Kristen: You make it sound like a defining moment.

Antonio: Is it not?

Deacon: Wow. You really do love me.

Amber: You are taking this way too far.

Deacon: Actually, I'm glad you threw that at me. I was getting a little steamed up. You know, I was thinking about this. I mean, you could have said, "Daddy and I are just talking. I'm not angry." But instead, you said, "I love you."

Amber: I meant that we had feelings for each other.

Deacon: You answered right from your gut. You gave your first response, which is usually, you know, they say your truest response, and it just so happens that it's that you told me you love me.

Amber: Do you want me to walk out of here? Because I will, right now.

Deacon: Sure you will. Go ahead. Go on. You're in love. You'll be back.

Amber: What am I gonna do with you?

Deacon: I got a couple ideas on that subject, but, more importantly, what are you gonna do about Rick?

Amber: I'm going to stay married to Rick.

Deacon: If I didn't know better, I'd say you're trying to convince yourself, not me. You know, I can see this so clearly now. Hey, this is all so obvious to me. Rick's father tries to run me down, and there you are at my hospital bed, just checking to see if I'm okay.

Amber: That is not why I --

Deacon: And then Rick sees the tattoo and he freaks out, and the reason he freaks out is 'cause he's insecure, but he's insecure 'cause he senses something. I see you at home with Rick, when he touches you, thinking about me. I don't know. I mean, that's gotta be -- that's gotta be a hell of a dream. But you know, like I said, I'm done trying to convince you. I think, sooner or later, you're gonna come around, but you better believe one thing -- love does conquer all, and it's gonna conquer you, and when it does, I'll be waiting right here for you.

Amber: I'm taking my son and going home.

Deacon: That's our son. Why do you look so frightened?

Amber: Well, wouldn't you be if you were in my place? Maybe that's something you should think about, Deacon.

Stephanie: What's the real reason that you sent Kristen over there?

Eric: We had a little talk.

Stephanie: What about?

Eric: About family.

Stephanie: About me?

Eric: She needs our help, honey.

Stephanie: Eric, your daughter knows that I have always been there for her. She knows that.

Eric: Do you think we fell short somewhere along the line with Kristen?

Stephanie: No, I don't.

Eric: Then why is she so different from the others? I mean, she's socially awkward, especially with men. I mean, I really feel for her. How is it that a woman who's so beautiful, so attractive, lives such a lonely life? You know, I think about her in New York city and living that lonely life. I mean, I feel for her, you know? I really do.

Stephanie: Matchmaker, matchmaker, you have sent her over there hoping that something will happen between these two people.

Antonio: Here, do it like this. Grab it at one end, you take the knife with the other. You just chop, chop, chop.

Kristen: Cool.

Antonio: Here, try this with a tomato.

Kristen: All right.

Antonio: Yeah, that's good. That's good. Keep doing that.

Kristen: Gosh, you know, I don't even know if I have a kitchen in my apartment. I've certainly never seen it.

Antonio: Well, if I were you, I would conduct a search. It's a very important room.

Kristen: Yeah, I'll get on that right when I get home.

Antonio: You have to go back to New York?

Kristen: Yeah, eventually I'll have to.

Antonio: Well, don't you freelance? I mean, you could work here.

Kristen: Yikes.

Antonio: What?

Kristen: Nothing. I just got some tomato juice on my top.

Antonio: That's okay. I think you were gonna change anyway.

Kristen: I was?

Antonio: Yes, you were. Come with me. These are some of the dresses from my latest collection. Huh?

Kristen: Well, it's a lovely dress.

Antonio: Well, I know it's not something you would normally wear, but here, try it on.

Kristen: I can't do that.

Antonio: Why not?

Kristen: Antonio, I just met you. I can't change in your -->

Antonio: Well, it's okay. If you don't want to, you don't have to.

Kristen: I'll put on the dress.

Rick: Amber, where have you been?

Amber: Honey, why don't you go play with your fire truck? It's in the kitchen, okay? Okay. I took Eric to see his father.

Rick: I was afraid of that.

Amber: He called and asked to see him.

Rick: And when Deacon calls, we respond.

Amber: Please don't act this way.

Rick: I want to put him on a schedule, Amber.

Amber: All right.

Rick: Not more than once a week, Amber, and I want him coming here to pick Eric up instead of you going to him. Look, I don't want to sound like the bad guy here. I just don't think your spending a lot of time with Deacon is a good idea.

Amber: Are you saying that you don't trust me?

Rick: We're newlyweds, Amber. We're trying to build a marriage.

Amber: Like I said, you don't trust me.

Rick: This has nothing to do with trust.

Amber: Yes, it does. Look, I understand, okay, and I'll try to be more sensitive, if you will.

Rick: Me? What do you mean me?

Amber: I'm not trashy, Rick, and that is a word I don't want you using against me ever again.

Stephanie: You set her up with a total stranger.

Eric: I didn't set her up. I sent her over there to make him a business proposition. Now, listen, I saw this fellow interviewed the other night on television. He's very, very impressive, not to mention charming. I had a very good feeling about him.

Stephanie: Well, you like him so much, you date him.

Eric: This isn't about matchmaking. I want this designer at Forrester. Now, Stephanie, he's very, very good, and he's a winner. Fact is, it wouldn't hurt Kristen to be associated with people like that, especially if it keeps her here in L.A.

Stephanie: Well, I hope she makes a wonderful business pitch for you. But I'm telling you, knowing her, if he gives her the eye or gives her the once over, she'll be out of there so fast, his head will spin.

[Speaking Spanish]

Kristen: It's a great dress. You did a nice job.

Antonio: Yes, I did. Well, how does it feel?

Kristen: You're right. I have never worn anything like it.

Antonio: Not enough pashmina?

Kristen: It's not the fabric. It's the style.

Antonio: You look just beautiful.

Kristen: Thank you.

Antonio: So, Mexican dinner, Spanish dress -- the only thing missing is to teach you how to tango.

Kristen: Confession time. I am not a good dancer.

Antonio: Me neither.

Kristen: Yeah, right. You are proficient at everything.

Antonio: Have I won you over? Well, I'm not quite everything. Take my hand, look into my eyes, and follow my lead.

Sofia: Antonio, this place is beautiful. I love it. Amor, how you knew I was in a tango mood tonight? Who is that?

Antonio: I barely even know you, and you're already lying to me. You said you weren't a good dancer?

Kristen: No, you're just a good teacher. You're very smooth.

Antonio: When I want to be.

Kristen: Do you want to be often?

Antonio: No.

Kristen: Come on. A man like you, you must have a woman in your life.

Antonio: I'm not committed at the moment, Kristen.

Sofia: Kristen?

Antonio: And you?

Kristen: If you only knew.

Antonio: Married?

Kristen: No.

Antonio: Well, then there's a lot of men?

Kristen: No, you're getting the wrong idea. There is no man. There hasn't been for a long time.

Antonio: And why not?

Kristen: Just haven't met the right one yet.

Antonio: Have you been looking?

Kristen: No. I don't even do that anymore. You've probably noticed I'm not exactly the easiest person to be around.

Antonio: That's a joke, right?

Kristen: No, it's not.

Antonio: I haven't been this comfortable with a woman in a long time, Kristen.

Kristen: Is that a line?

Antonio: No, that's not a line.

Kristen: I haven't been this comfortable with a man ever -- before tonight.

Antonio: Then I guess we're two very lucky people.

Kristen: Are we?

Antonio: One of us is a little bit skeptical.

Kristen: I'm not skeptical. Careful.

Antonio: Well, you shouldn't be. You're a clothes designer.

[Antonio and Kristen kiss]

Rick: Amber, when did I say you were trashy?

Amber: You said it about my tattoo.

Rick: Look, if I had a tattoo, and then you found out that some woman had the other half, wouldn't that bother you?

Amber: Not if it happened before we were married.

Rick: We had just broken up, and suddenly, you're in Vegas with Deacon getting tattooed?

Amber: It didn't mean anything.

Rick: You know, that's what I kept telling myself, too, and then I would think about what it symbolizes.

Amber: Rick, it symbolizes nothing.

Rick: It's a half of a broken heart, Amber, and Deacon has the other half. Look, I don't want to sound crazy here, but this is a lot for a new husband to handle, so I'm gonna ask you a question, and it's the only time I'm ever gonna ask you this question, so I want you to think long and hard before you answer me. Now, you and Deacon share -- you share a lot in common. You have a similar background, he's Eric's natural father, and he's in love with you. So if there is any doubt in your mind, even the slightest possibility that you would rather be with him instead of me --

Amber: No, Rick. No!

Rick: Why not, Amber? You used to have feelings for him. Admit it.

Amber: Rick -- Rick, I swear, other than the fact that Deacon is Eric's father, I have no connection to him whatsoever! I promise you.

Rick: Good.

[Amber remembering]

Amber: See? Mom and Daddy love each other.

Deacon: What did you just say?
