Episode #29
Provided By Gisele
Miranda: [Goes downstairs and looks at a baby picture with her mom on her keychain]
Bianca: [Chuckles as she looks at Miranda's baby pictures]
Cassandra: [Sighs]
Angie: Good morning.
Cassandra: [Groans]
Angie: I know it's not easy, but you're getting better, sweetheart.
Cassandra: [Angrily] Not with this thing in me.
Angie: Cassandra.
Cassandra: I don't want to talk about it.
Angie: Honey, we have to talk.
Cassandra: [Crying] I can't even say it.
Angie: Listen, I know it's a lot to deal with.
Cassandra: I don't want it.
Angie: Well, you don't have to decide anything this minute.
Cassandra: Because you want me to change my mind.
Angie: No. It's not my decision.
Cassandra: Then I want it out. I want it gone.
Angie: Look, Cassandra. Please. The baby is innocent.
Cassandra: I don't even know who the father is. And whoever he is, he raped me. It's not a child. It's a disease, and I want it gone.
Angie: It's -- it's all right, Cassandra.
Cassandra: No, it's not. There's this thing growing in me, and [Sobbing] I hate it! I hate it!
Angie: Please, honey, stop it.
Cassandra: It makes me sick! It's disgusting!
Angie: Cassandra, please. Cassandra, listen. Now, you're gonna have to calm down. It's not good for you or the baby.
Cassandra: Good. Good! Well, maybe it'll die! I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!
Angie: Stop it!
Cassandra: Leave me alone! Leave me the hell alone!
Dixie: Come on. Go, go, go. Let me take over. Go get -- go get some water. Go, go. Shh, shh, shh. Listen. Deep breaths. Good girl. Good girl. It's okay.
Jesse: Call me, please. Just call me. Call me.
Joe: What's going on?
Jesse: I need to talk to Tad. Doc, do you have any numbers on him? Can you help me?
Joe: I-I'm afraid not. Nobody can reach him.
Jesse: Damn it.
Joe: You can talk to me. It's about Cassandra -- her pregnancy? Hmm?
Jesse: [Chuckles] There's so much. I don't even know where to start.
Zach: Hey. [Sighs]
Lea: I was, um, surprised to hear that you wanted to see me.
Zach: Why?
Lea: Then you're not mad that I put the brakes on last night?
Zach: Uh, no. I'm, uh -- it's -- it's good we stopped. It's good.
Lea: Oh. Good. Good. I'm glad you feel that way.
Zach: [Sighs] The thing is this. I mean, we -- we really -- we really don't know each other that well. And -- but there is something, and whatever it is, I just don't want to mess it up.
Lea: Neither do I.
Zach: Good. Well, that's -- that's good. So, we cleared that up. Perfect. What's, uh -- what's going on with the Koslov case?
[Cell phone buzzing]
Lea: I actually take milk with my coffee.
Zach: I would have known that if -- you know what I mean?
Lea: Yeah.
Zach: That's what I'm talking about.
[Buzzing stops]
Lea: Sorry. I couldn't pick up. Do you have anything? Let me know as soon as you do.
Knock on door]
Angie: Dr. Peterson?
Dr. Peterson: You must be Angela Hubbard.
Angie: Thank you for seeing me.
Dr. Peterson: Please, have a seat.
Angie: Thank you.
Dr. Peterson: I understand from Dixie that you're going through a difficult time.
Angie: Well, it's my -- my daughter, Cassandra. She's in a great deal of pain.
Dr. Peterson: So are you.
Angie: [Sighs] Um... she's -- she's just been through so much. And she's facing so much more. I just want to help her.
Dr. Peterson: You're her mother.
Angie: Well, I think that it seems to be working against me at the moment.
Dr. Peterson: We'll talk about that.
Angie: Um, I-I-I know that I need to speak to someone objective. It's important. And I-I told my husband that he needed to be here, too.
Dr. Peterson: He chose to not join us.
Angie: Today wasn't a good day for him. Now, I don't know, you know. Maybe it's not for me, either. Maybe I need to be with my daughter, Cassandra.
Dr. Peterson: You need to deal with your own issues before you can help Cassandra.
Angie: I just... want everything to be normal again. And I know that that's impossible. So much has happened. But Cassandra's in a very... dark place, and I want her to get past this, but I don't know how to help her.
Dr. Peterson: Love is a good start.
Angie: I'm not sure it's enough. She's so angry, so depressed. How do I help her accept that what's happened doesn't mean her life is over? How do I convince her that she can move past this and be stronger from it?
Dr. Peterson: It's a process that's going to take time and understanding.
Angie: I want to understand. I'm trying. I mean, the last thing that I want is to impose what I think is best on my daughter. I guess no matter what Cassandra's decision is, I have to hold on to what I've always believed -- that even out of the worst situations, something good always comes out of them.
Zach: Whoa! What's going on here? Beach day? How are you?
Miranda: [Giggles] Good.
AJ: Yeah, after I grab some snacks.
Miranda: Okay. Don't forget the snickerdoodles.
Zach: Come sit.
Miranda: So, uh, where's your personal bodyguard?
Zach: She's getting snickerdoodles, as well, whatever that is. She eats like a horse, and she's not my bodyguard anymore.
Miranda: Because...?
Zach: Oh. Because the charges have been dropped. Your handsome uncle's actually a free man.
Miranda: That's fantastic!
Zach: Isn't it?
Miranda: Oh, I'm so glad. I knew you didn't do it. You're like a total Teddy bear. How could anyone think that you'd actually kill someone?
Zach: Teddy bears everywhere thank you.
Miranda: That's the best news ever.
Zach: You want to hear better news? Us having dinner, 'cause I want to spend some time with my favorite niece.
Miranda: Well, your only niece who's around.
Zach: Makes me love you more. With your mom and Gabby gone are you okay?
Miranda: I miss them... a ton, but, you know, I'm dealing. I have AJ, so...
Zach: And me.
Miranda: Best uncle in the world. Oh! I forgot -- I have something for you. I, um -- I drew this of Spike and Ian from a photo they sent, and I-I thought you'd like it. [Chuckles]
Zach: Oh. Very talented.
Miranda: Mm... either that or I have way too much time on my hands. [Chuckles]
Zach: I'll go with talent. Can I have this?
Miranda: Yeah.
Zach: You're an amazing woman.
Angie: She's just so broken, so broken. You know, Cassandra's always been someone who's very sure of herself -- who she is, what she wants. And stubborn. [Chuckles] I can remember when she was a little girl, she would sit at the table all night before she'd eat one Brussels sprout. [Crying] They -- They drugged her... beat her... raped her... forced her into prostitution... forced her to make those disgusting, vile porno movies. [Sobbing] Those bastards degraded my baby in every possible way. And they violated her emotionally, mentally, physically. How does someone come back from that?
Bianca: I love you. I will always love you. And no matter how scary the world gets, Mommy's gonna be there to help you through it. [Sighs]
Miranda: Okay, so wait. If that agent isn't guarding you anymore, what's with breakfast?
Zach: We're going to catch a bad guy.
Miranda: [Chuckles]
AJ: [Chuckling] All right. You ready?
Miranda: Yeah, like a year ago. [Chuckles] See ya.
Zach: Bye. Oh, I got plenty of time now, so dinner, right? You call me.
Miranda: I will.
Zach: AJ. Sunscreen.
AJ: You got it.
Lea: She's a sweet girl.
Zach: Yeah, she is.
Lea: So, uh, her mother's your ex-wife's sister?
Zach: It's a little more complicated than that.
Angie: Cassandra never gave up. She fought them. And she held on to the hope that we would find her and bring her home. And now she's safe from those monsters. The drugs are out of her system, but it's not over. Maybe it never will be. This... pregnancy is just too much... too cruel. [Sniffles] And the audacity of some politician to say he didn't believe anyone could ever get pregnant from being raped. I want them to look in my daughter's eyes and see her horror, feel her pain, her despair. How do I help her through this?
Cassandra: I don't want to hate it, but I can't help it. Feeling it grow inside of me and every kick -- I remember those men, and... I wouldn't love it... and I wouldn't sing to it. I want it gone.
Dixie: It's all right.
Cassandra: Having to touch it, and hold it, and feed it -- every time I'd look at it, I'd hate it, and I'd hate myself even more. And maybe -- maybe I'm being selfish, but it's how I feel. [Sobbing]
Dr. Peterson: Are you saying you want her to go through with the pregnancy?
Angie: No. It's not that. It's just that I don't want her to regret not going through with it. She's just been through so much. So much has happened to her that will haunt her for a very, very long time, and I don't want something like an abortion to be weighing on her on top of everything else. And then again, the pregnancy also would be extremely difficult to endure under these circumstances.
Dr. Peterson: There are no easy answers. It's important for you to share with Cass how you feel for her to understand that you're torn, too, but it comes from a place of love not judgment.
Angie: I want to share. I do, but I'm so afraid I'll alienate her at a time she needs me most. [Chuckles] [Voice breaking] I found Cassandra in a dumpster. My little miracle. [Crying] My little miracle. It was love at first sight. And she wasn't conceived or born under ideal circumstances. But the source of love and joy that she has brought to so many people, I cannot imagine her not being here. Oh. My baby. Oh, my baby. [Sobbing
Miranda: [Chuckles]
AJ: Oh, man. I am soaked.
Miranda: I know.
AJ: All right. Wait a minute. I want to know who failed to mention that there was gonna be a thunderstorm today. I mean, seriously, come on.
Miranda: How do you feel about soggy snickerdoodles?
AJ: The soggy snickerdoodles? Really? Soggy snick --
Miranda: [Chuckles]
AJ: I'm all about the sugar, baby. You know this. Come on.
Miranda: Okay, do you remember that time when my mom took us to the beach, and it stormed the entire weekend? We were like, what, 6?
AJ: Yes, I do, actually. We made a tent city in the hotel room, right?
Miranda: Yeah.
AJ: Your mom, like, hooked it up, and we stayed in there all weekend.
Miranda: Yeah.
AJ: Yeah, that was totally awesome. Hey, you want to know something, too? I could totally still do my, uh, shadow-bird thing, you know?
Miranda: God.
AJ: [Imitates bird cooing]
Miranda: That was great.
AJ: Mm-hmm. You miss her, don't you?
Miranda: I do. I mean, I just -- I miss when it was just the two of us, you know -- I mean, before Gabby came along. I mean, don't get me wrong, I -- nothing against my little sister. I just... we used to do everything together. The dynamic duo, she used to call us. And I think the fact that there was no dad in the picture -- it made us even tighter. I mean, he was just... a donor at a sperm bank, so it really was just the two of us all the time. And now, she --
AJ: Now she's not here, and you wish she was, right?
Miranda: [Sighs] I'll be fine. I've got you. [Chuckles]
AJ: Hey. But you know what you don't have, huh?
Miranda: What?
AJ: Some ice cream. And you know what? Carmen makes a mean fro-yo. I'm telling you, and it's healthy. I'll be right back. [Smooches]
Miranda: Okay. [Looks at her baby picture again.]
[Cell phone ringing]
Miranda: [Clears throat]
[Ringing continues]
Miranda: Hello.
Bianca: Hi, Miranda. It's Mommy.
Miranda: Uh... I was just thinking about you. [Chuckles]
Lea: [Sighs]
Zach: I can't believe there's nothing on the bolo for Uri.
Lea: I told you he was gonna be hard to track down. He's smart.
Zach: We're smarter. So, what are we gonna do?
Lea: Wait.
Zach: That doesn't seem that smart. Doesn't seem proactive.
Lea: It could come down to him making a mistake.
Zach: We've got to force him to make a mistake.
[Knock on door]
Agent: I found this in Hubbard's office in a locked desk drawer.
Lea: Thanks.
Agent: Yeah.
Lea: Ah.
Zach: Is that a flash drive?
Zach: Uh-huh. With Uri's dental records on it. Thanks a lot.
Agent: Yeah, you got it.
Lea: This is the mistake you were talking about.
Zach: You've been investigating Jesse?
Lea: I had a gut feeling Jesse was not telling the truth about the dental records and where he got them. There was no e-mail from a dentist in Moscow. He got them from Uri. He's been Uri's inside man the whole time. He helped Uri fake his death. He's been keeping him up to speed with the investigation. That's why Uri's been a step ahead of us the whole time.
Zach: You should have told me that.
Lea: That is exactly why I didn't tell you. You're too close. You're too emotional. You feel betrayed.
Zach: Yeah, I do feel betrayed... by you. [Opens door and walks out]
Jesse: And now you know. A good man was framed for murder.
Joe: You were forced to make a choice, Jesse. Under the circumstances, you took the only course you could, and your daughter is alive because of it.
Jesse: I'm a cop, Doc. I broke the law -- just threw it right out the window.
Joe: You're a father first.
Jesse: I feel like a big-ass coward. I mean, I should have stood up to Koslov, found another way. I mean, I stood there, and I looked Zach right dead in the eye, and I-I arrested him for a murder that I knew he did not commit.
Joe: Yeah. Well, it was a bad situation. But you are not a bad man.
Jesse: Zach could have gone to prison for life.
Joe: He could have, but he didn't. The charges were dropped, and Cassandra is at home where she belongs.
Jesse: And my life is about to crash and burn. Doc, I don't know what to do.
Joe: Well, then, I think you're gonna have to make it right.
Jesse: If I go to the Feds, Koslov swears he'll go after my family, and he can do that.
Joe: Well, as long as this Koslov is out there, your family is always gonna be in danger.
Jesse: You're right. First, I'm gonna tell Angela. Then I'm gonna go to the authorities.
Joe: Yeah.
Jesse: How is she?
Angie: Struggling.
Jesse: And how was the session?
Angie: Fine.
Jesse: Baby, I'm sorry I couldn't be there.
Angie: You're here now.
Jesse: Angela, I know you know that... you, Cassandra, family means everything to me.
Agent: Jesse Hubbard. You're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Angie: What?
Agent: You have the right to consult an attorney and have an attorney present during questioning...
Angie: What are you doing?
Agent: ... now or in the future.
Angie: Stop that.
Agent: Please move aside.
Angie: What are you doing?! You can't --
Jesse: It's okay, baby.
Angie: No. You can't arrest my husband!
Agent: Please step back!
Angie: Stop it! No! This is a mistake! Jesse, please tell them that you haven't done anything wrong. Please, tell them! You're making a mistake!
Jesse: It's not a mistake.
Agent: ... If you decide to answer my questions now without an attorney present...
Angie: Jesse, please! Stop! What are you doing?!
Jesse: I'm so sorry, baby.
Angie: No! What are you doing? [Sobs]
Jesse: I'm so sorry.
AJ: [Chuckles] [Sighs] Nice.
Miranda: [Chuckles]
AJ: Here you go.
Miranda: Thanks.
AJ: Cheers. This looks amazing.
Miranda: [Chuckles] Hmm.
AJ: Mm-hmm.
Miranda: [Chuckles]
AJ: Ow.
Miranda: Eat your own.
