Erica: Hi. What?
Jack: So is Jane the imposter back among us?
Erica: Don't be ridiculous.
Jack: This beautiful woman sitting before me cannot possibly be the Erica Kane that I know and love.
Erica: And why is that?
Jack: Erica -- Jane and David, they tricked Greenlee into selling them that hospital. The deal was done by a fraud, which means that deal could be undone, and yet you're letting David keep the hospital. Why?
Erica: Look, all I am doing is focusing on my life. A life that I have very much missed.
Jack: And I am very, very glad to have you back. Believe me. But why would you let Hayward get away with another one of his underhanded schemes?
Erica: Jack, believe me, I know very well exactly how devious David Hayward is. And I certainly do not want to reward him in any way. The man is infuriating, and do you -- do you believe he's trying to convince me that someone I once loved is still alive?
Jack: And did he say who that might be?
Erica: Of course not. That would ruin his little game. But look what I found. Look what I found. Look. Your brother Travis. I mean, it seems like it was yesterday, right?
[Knocking on door]
Tad: Hey. Come in?
Maya: Mm-hmm.
Tad: Wow. Looks like Lucy likes to play with all of her toys at once.
Maya: She's an excellent multitasker. Who's in the middle of her nap.
Tad: Yeah, I guess my timing's pretty good then. So. Angie tells me you need some help.
Maya: She told you?
Tad: Just the bullet points, that you had a baby you don't know, and you'd kind of like to find her. Relax. I'm here to help you, not to judge you. So why don't you fill me in on the fine print, ok?
Maya: When I found out I was pregnant, I came here. I stayed with my aunt. Didn't tell her or anyone that I was pregnant. I had my baby. A little girl. And I -- I gave her up.
Tad: Ok. All right. You gave her up as in --
Maya: I left her somewhere. Somewhere where I knew she would be safe and taken care of.
Tad: Where?
Maya: I left her in a police car.
Brot: Oh. Thanks for coming, Chief.
Jesse: Sounded urgent. What's up? Are you sweating?
Brot: No. Maybe. Yeah, a little bit. Listen, I'm gonna ask Natalia to marry me, and I want your blessing.
Angie: What's the prognosis?
David: I'm accelerating the surgery. We need to implant the retinal cells as soon as possible.
Angie: I thought you wanted to give the cells a few more weeks to grow.
David: Yes. I did. But we might not have the time. Griff Castillo is threatening to take my research to the FDA. If he does that before we have a chance to implant the cells, you may never see again.
Kendall: What are you doing here? I was just gonna pick you up.
Zach: Took a taxi. Want to be alone with my wife.
Kendall: I'm so happy to see you. Do you want to sit down? Are you hungry or thirsty?
Zach: I'm just happy to be here.
Kendall: Come here. Come here. The boys, they planned this big surprise for you, and they're still at the park with the nanny.
Zach: And I will still be surprised. Oh.
Griffin: Well, I should take off. Enjoy your cake.
Zach: Wait.
Griffin: You want to be alone with your wife.
[Doorbell rings]
Cara: Hi.
Griffin: Hi.
Cara: I got your page.
Griffin: What's going on here?
Zach: I wanted both you guys to be here so there wouldn't be any misunderstanding. I want Cara to take over my care.
Griffin: Under David's direction?
Zach: Yeah. Ok with you?
Cara: Of course. Yes.
Griffin: Cara, why are you not capable of seeing the damage that David can do?
Zach: Because she has vision -- something you lack.
Griffin: Cara, you need to walk away from this.
Cara: Griff, from revolutionary medicine? No, this science is gonna change the world.
Griffin: David is using this science to control people, to corrupt them, to ruin lives.
Kendall: Listen to me a second. David saved my husband's life. And Dixie Martin's and Greenlee's.
Griffin: And I'm glad. But David isn't just content with saving lives.
Cara: Ok, you know what? Just stop, all right?
Griffin: You want me to stop? You want me to stop. Ok. I won't go to the authorities if you quit Orpheus, and you stay the hell away from David.
Angie: Part of me is thrilled. Moving the surgery up could mean that I would see sooner. But then it's also more of a risk that things could go wrong.
David: It is a chance we'll have to take. But I am optimistic.
Angie: Listen, maybe I can talk to Griff -- convince him not to go to the FDA. We have a good relationship.
David: As colleagues. But you're the patient here. So I don't want you to get involved. There is a chance that he might come around.
Angie: Griff wouldn't be trying to shut Orpheus down if you hadn't been using the project as a tool. Maybe "weapon" is a better word.
David: I did what I felt I needed to do.
Angie: No, you've been playing God. Teasing people with the possibility that their loved ones are alive, giving them hope -- false hope in some cases.
David: I guess you haven't noticed, but I'm being attacked from all sides right now.
Angie: Maybe if you revealed who your other patients are, people would support you instead of attacking you.
Jack: Travis has been gone a long time. Why are you so interested in these?
Erica: I think working on my book, it just made me really want to delve more deeply into my past, and looking at all these. I mean, it just -- they trigger my memories, you know? Things I haven't thought about, people I haven't thought about in ages.
Jack: Mike Roy's obituary?
Erica: Yes, a heart attack, and no one ever thought to tell me what happened.
Jack: Erica, I thought you told me you realized that this was Hayward's way of manipulating you.
Erica: I do.
Jack: But here you sit, trying to figure out if he has another one of your loved ones stashed away somewhere. That's what you're doing, isn't it?
Jesse: I couldn't ask for a finer, more upstanding man for my daughter to marry.
Brot: Thank you, Chief. That means a lot coming from you, sir.
Jesse: You know what? Since we're about to be family, you can drop the sir. On second thought, keep the sir. I like the sir.
Brot: All right. I can do that. Hopefully she says yes.
Jesse: My money's all over that.
Brot: Come check this out. What do you think? Think she'll like it?
Jesse: Well, it looks to me you were pretty sure of yourself even before you got my permission.
Brot: You know me. Positive thinking.
Jesse: A doughnut cake? Are you kidding me?
Brot: What do you think?
Jesse: Fricking cops.
[Brot and Jesse laugh]
Jesse: Call me after the big event, would you?
Brot: You know I will.
Jesse: I want to thank you. For everything.
Brot: I'm glad I could help.
Jesse: Hasn't been easy. But it looks like our secret is gonna stay a secret.
Brot: I'll make sure it stays that way.
Tad: I don't remember seeing any reports about an infant being left in a squad car, and believe me, that would've made the news.
Maya: And I watched every day, waiting to hear so I'd know she was ok. But after a while, I figured the police probably just took her to Social Services, and she was adopted.
Tad: Well, that's a no-brainer. You work for the chief of police. I'm sure Jesse could get you an answer just like that.
Maya: I can't do that.
Tad: Why not? I'm sure Jesse would help you.
Maya: I did it to protect my baby from Mookie. But it's still against the law.
Tad: Maya, come on. Jesse cares about you. He's not gonna arrest you.
Maya: I could lose my job. And I really need this job.
Tad: Wait a minute. I know Angela Hubbard -- and she doesn't want Jesse to know about this, which is why she called me first, right?
Maya: Please, Mr. Martin. I just wanted to know if my baby's ok. That's all.
Tad: Darlin', I know the feeling.
Jack: So what did Hayward promise you? That if you let him keep the hospital, he'd produce one of your great loves from the deep freeze?
Erica: Jack, don't be silly.
Jack: Who? Travis? Mike Roy? Kent Bogart? Chris Stamp? You really don't expect one of your old flames to come walking through that door, do you?
Erica: Jack, where is this coming from? You know that you are my only love.
Jack: Yes, I do. Erica, we were about to be married when you were kidnapped. I just very badly would like us to make some plans to pick up where we left off, but listen to me. If this is what you need to do, you do it, because I love you, too. When you're done, you know where to find me.
Erica: Jack, what do you mean? What are you doing? Jack?
Jack: I love you.
Erica: Jack, wait. Jack?
David: I'm not using Orpheus to hurt people. Quite the contrary. The entire project is about saving people.
Angie: Dixie Martin ended up in a psychiatric hospital.
David: That's because she left my facility before she was emotionally ready to reassimilate.
Angie: And Zach? You almost lost him.
David: He tore out his IV while under my care. And he wasn't physically ready to be released. So yes, there were complications. But it had nothing to do with the science. The science itself is flawless.
Angie: How many are there, David?
David: I can't tell you.
Angie: You won't.
David: But I will assure you that none of my patients will leave until I know that they're emotionally and physically strong enough.
Angie: So there are more.
David: Ok, look, why don't we get back to the main point here, all right? The priority right now is your operation. We need to perform the surgery before Griff shuts down the project.
Angie: He's upset with the way you've been handling your patients.
David: Yeah, well, P.R. has never been one of my strong points.
Angie: You know what? Maybe if you just simply told the truth, told people that their loved ones are alive, then they would work with you.
David: Ha ha ha! Work with me? Really? When has anyone in this town ever worked with me, Angie? All right, look, let me answer that for you. Never. It's never gonna happen.
Angie: I will. If you'll let me.
Griffin: What do you say? You walk away from Orpheus, I don't go to the FDA. It's a win-win.
Cara: Griff, you can't blackmail me out of doing something that I believe in.
Griffin: Cara, we took an oath to do no harm.
Cara: And this doesn't do harm. This actually saves lives. You know this.
Griffin: But in the hands of David, it could be lethal. It's unproven, Cara.
Zach: I'm here.
Griffin: Zach, I cannot ignore these facts.
Zach: You've ignored them for years. Why do you have a problem with it now?
Kendall: Listen to me a second. Ok? David saved my husband's life. This research is legit, and you, you just got out of the hospital, all right? You need to relax.
Zach: I'm relaxed. You know what I think? I think your boy's pissed because I'm back, and he didn't end up with my wife.
Erica: Jack actually accused me of wishing that one of my lovers would come back from the dead. Can you imagine?
Opal: Actually, yeah.
Erica: Opal!
Opal: Well, don't I wish that Palmer would walk through the door every minute of every day?
Erica: I'm sorry. I know how much you miss Palmer.
Opal: Yeah. It's like an ache that I breathe with. And I don't want you to have those same kind of regrets. Missing years of living with my love bug.
Erica: I want to live years with Jack. I'm not living in the past.
Opal: It sure as heck looks like the past to me. You've got souvenirs here from every marriage and roll in the hay you ever had.
Erica: Jack is the problem.
Opal: No. No. Jack is lit up by David, and David is doing exactly the same thing he did when Jane was pretending to be you. He loves using Jane to set Jack off.
Erica: But Jack and I just got back from Paris. And we had the most amazing trip. I mean, we've never been more in love.
Opal: Yeah. And I want to see that stay like that. Before all of this back-from-the-dead business started to happen, you were hell-bent on proving that David was behind your kidnapping. You wanted his butt in a sling. And now it's like you're under some kind of a spell here. You're in his snare.
Erica: No, I'm not. Opal, maybe I'd rather spend my life living than fighting.
Opal: Oh. Let bygones be bygones, that sort of thing? Listen, nobody is happier than I am to have Zach and Dixie back in our lives. Of course. But that doesn't change the fact that David Hayward is a sick, manipulative, evil man. Ok? So you can call this whatever you want -- you can call it research, you can call it a trip down memory lane. But David Hayward has got you risking, taking chances with your happiness with Jackson for the promise of what -- something or someone that might just turn out to be a big, old pile of ashes. Are you willing to take that chance of losing Jack?
Brot: Hey. Wow, you look beautiful.
Natalia: Thanks. Hi. What's all this? Is that a doughnut cake?
Brot: Yes, it is. You gave me one, so I figured I'd return the favor. Come here. Come here. Have a seat. Here. Come on.
Natalia: So, what's going on?
Brot: This was the place where you told me you were ready for a relationship. Remember?
Natalia: Christmas. I remember. I thought long and hard about risk versus reward. I'm so glad I took that plunge. Been nothing but reward ever since.
Brot: Ok. No one knows better than me how life can change in a split second. From the first time I laid eyes on you, my life hasn't been the same. Whether it's us winning dance marathons or you staying on my ass -- every single day with you in it is better. The way you push yourself to make yourself better, it inspires me to do the same. When I look at you, I see a beautiful, strong, powerful woman with a beautiful, strong, powerful heart. And I want to be the man that takes care of that heart. I want you to be my wife. Natalia, will you marry me?
Natalia: Yes. Yes. Of course! Yes! Baby, I love you.
Brot: I love you, too.
David: Angela Hubbard offering to help me? I never thought I'd hear those words.
Angie: I never thought I'd say them.
David: Is it because I'm helping you regain your sight? Is it obligation?
Angie: That might be part of it. But I've also come to know another side of you.
David: You know, Angie, despite all our differences, I've always admired you. You're not like the hypocrites in this town. It's one of the reasons why I offered to help you regain your sight.
Angie: So you'll let me help you?
David: Right now, the priority is implanting the retinal stem cells.
Angie: David, don't shut down on me.
David: Which means I have to meet with the ophthalmic surgeon immediately to set the date.
Angie: David, please. Tell me. Who else have you saved? Did you save your daughter? Did you save Babe?
Cara: Let's leave.
Griffin: I can speak for myself.
Zach: Then speak, Griff! Why are you in my house?
Griffin: You want to take a swing at me? Go on right ahead.
Kendall: No one's gonna take a swing at anybody, all right? No one. Griffin saved my life. And yours.
Zach: David saved my life.
Griffin: Ok, so you're gonna blindly support someone whose sole purpose is to decimate all those people around him.
Cara: Let's go, all right?
Zach: Listen to your sister. And listen to me. If you go to the FDA, if you sink this thing, you're gonna regret it, I promise you.
Griffin: Are we done? Because I have patients I have to see.
Zach: So we understand each other?
Griffin: Completely.
Zach: Good. I'm going upstairs. Let me know when you get my records, ok?
Cara: Ok.
Griffin: Let's go.
Kendall: Griffin, wait, please. David's research has done so much good. I wish that you would reconsider going to the FDA.
Griffin: How well do you know him since he's been back? Because from what I've seen, he's nothing more than David's sock puppet. And if you can't see that and make him break away from Hayward, you're --
Erica: Opal, I think you're really overreacting to all this, just the way Jack did.
Opal: Oh! Oh, really? Well, let's see here. You got Mike Roy. You got -- oh, you got Jackson's brother Travis. These are men he went to the mat for to win your affections. And where are they? They're all right here, alive and well in your living room.
Erica: All right. You're right. It's silly, ok? The last thing I want to do is hurt Jack.
Opal: All right. Hallelujah. Sense has been restored. My job is done. I gotta make tracks, all right? But you give Jackson a great, big kiss for me, right after you give him a whole bunch of your own, will ya?
Erica: I will.
Opal: All right. I'll see you later.
Erica: Ok.
David: If I had saved Babe, I certainly wouldn't bring her back here. There's no way in hell I'd let J.R. anywhere near her.
Angie: Shouldn't Babe be allowed to choose? If she's alive?
David: He turned her life into a living hell. And what's worse, he did the exact same thing to Marissa.
Angie: What about Babe's son? If his mother's alive, A.J. deserves his mother in his life. He needs her.
David: Ok. Game's over, Angie. Who I've chosen to save, where they are right now? I will reveal everything as soon as I'm convinced that it's in their best interest, both emotionally and physically.
Angie: So we're back to playing God.
David: Why don't we focus on getting your eyesight back?
Angie: I can already see, David. I can see you. Very clearly.
[Knocking on door]
Jesse: Here to pick up my wife.
David: Perfect timing. We're done.
Jesse: Good news?
Angie: Well, the surgery's been moved up.
Jesse: Why?
David: Dr. Castillo is going to the FDA about Orpheus, so we need to complete Angie's treatment before he shuts down the project, or she may never see again.
Jesse: Is it safe to just bump up the schedule like this?
David: I wouldn't be making the suggestion if I thought there was any danger. Shall we? Jesse.
Jesse: I'll be right there, baby. What is it?
David: There is one minor detail.
Jesse: Now, this is what I --
David: Ok, listen.
Jesse: What? What?
David: The latest tests reveal that there are some high blood pressure problems. Hypertension adds risk, ok, to the procedure.
Jesse: So let's just call it off.
David: No. As long as the hypertension is managed, Angie will be fine. So your job right now is to make sure that she stays as calm as possible. No drama, no stress. Can you handle that?
Jesse: No drama, no stress. Got it.
Natalia: That is so beautiful. You are beautiful. I love you so much.
Brot: I love you.
Natalia: I wish I didn't have to leave.
Brot: Well, my lovely fiancée, we are gonna celebrate bigger than doughnuts. Ha ha!
Tad: Yeah! Pine Valley P.D. gets on. I was looking for you, man. Sweetheart, if you get any better-looking, you're gonna hurt my feelings.
Natalia: Whatever. Thank you.
Brot: I hate to tell you, Tad, but my fiancée is one in a million.
Tad: Your fiancée?
Brot: Yes, sir.
Tad: Show me.
Brot: Yes, sir.
Tad: Oh, hey! It's so small.
[Laughter]
[All talking at once]
Natalia: Thank you.
Tad: Congratulations. I'm just busting your chops.
Natalia: Thank you.
Tad: It's about time. Listen, I'm sorry. I didn't know I was walking in on a celebration of something.
Natalia: You know, we'll continue the celebration.
Tad: I'm sorry. Could I just have two minutes of your time? I mean, it's ok? I'm sorry.
Natalia: No, it's fine. I'll meet you out front. Ok? Bye, babe.
Tad: Hey, congratulations. Terrific news.
Natalia: Thank you. Ha!
Brot: Yeah. What's up?
Tad: This case I'm working on. And it's something that I want to remain unofficial, ok, so you gotta keep it on the QT.
Brot: Yeah, no, it's cool. I'm off duty.
Tad: Do you remember anything about a baby that was left in a squad car a few months back?
Brot: A baby in a cop car?
Tad: Yeah.
Brot: No. I think I would've heard of that.
Tad: That's what I thought. So nothing like that, not even a rumor back in March?
Brot: No, no. So who are you working for?
Tad: I promised I'd keep it completely confidential.
Brot: I understand. Sorry, Tad, I couldn't help.
Tad: No, I appreciate your time. Listen, I don't have to tell you you're a lucky man. Take care of your fiancée.
Cara: Everything's a mess.
David: Why? What's happened?
Cara: Everything.
David: Yeah, you said that. What's going on?
Cara: Zach needed to see me, so I went over to their house. My brother was there, and he was trying to convince Kendall to turn against you, and he and Zach almost got into a physical fight, and then he was angry with me for still believing in you, and he was still determined to go to the FDA. Everything.
David: All right. Look. We're in the middle of the storm here. All right? But as long as we remain clear, we stay focused, I'm not gonna give up hope. And I hope you won't, either.
Cara: No. No. I'm not giving up.
David: Is there something else?
Cara: Nothing. No. Nothing.
David: Cara, come on. If we're gonna work together, we have to establish a trust, right? So there are no doubts?
Cara: Ok, are you -- are you doing something to the patients? Something -- to make them act differently than they normally would?
David: They got to you, didn't they?
Cara: I'm just asking you.
David: All right. What did they say? What? What, that I've created my own posse of back-from-the-dead zombies to do my bidding? Is that it? I'll tell you what. If you think that I'm capable of doing something like that, maybe you should leave. You know? Before I take total control, and there's no time left for you.
[Cell phone chirps]
Griffin: Kendall. "Need to talk to you ASAP regarding Orpheus. Something I need to show you. Meet me at -- "
Maya: Why did Jesse have to leave so fast?
Angie: Standard operating procedures when you live with a police officer, especially the chief. So tell me -- how did it go with Tad?
Maya: It was hard -- admitting what I did -- how stupid I was.
Angie: Listen, Maya, Tad is a very understanding man, and if anyone can find your baby, it's him.
Tad: So no records at all of a baby or infant dropped off at Social Services on or about March 30? Nothing? No. Ok. All right. Well, I appreciate your help. Bye.
Jesse: Hey.
Tad: Whoa.
Jesse: Sorry about that. Listen, I hear you're looking into an abandoned baby.
Tad: Yeah. Excuse me, can you hand me one of those? Yeah. And which was supposed to be unofficial, so so much for Brot being able to keep his mouth shut.
Jesse: Oh, well, Brot is about to become my future son-in-law. And he is a cop. Of course, he's gonna tell me everything.
Tad: Yeah, well, congratulations about your ever-expanding family. He's a good man.
Jesse: Yeah.
Tad: He talks too much, but he's a good man.
Jesse: So, what about this baby?
Tad: Don't know yet. I just started. Nothing with Social Services, but I'll call Molo. He's probably on the road. See what he can come up with.
Jesse: Hey, you don't need outside sources. You got me.
Tad: Come on, Chief. I'm sure you can come up with something else to do, something more important.
Jesse: Tad, let me look into it. I'll look into it internally, and then I'll keep you posted, ok?
Tad: Jesse. What's up?
Jesse: Nothing. Let me handle it.
Tad: Doesn't smell like nothing.
Jesse: Tad -- let me handle this, ok? Just leave it to me.
Tad: I can't do that.
Jesse: You have to.
Cara: I just want answers.
David: The only people messing with minds right now are the Martins and their ilk. I'm sorry that you listened to them.
Cara: What's up with Zach? Everyone's saying how much he hated you, and now he comes back and he's your biggest fan?
David: Isn't it obvious? I resurrected the man's life. I gave it back to him. Of course, he's gonna believe in what I'm doing. All it takes is a little enlightenment, a little knowledge. That goes a long way to opening closed, little minds. Look at Angie. Her life goal was to destroy my career, get me out of the hospital. Look at her now. She trusts me completely to help cure her blindness. There was no brainwashing necessary.
Cara: So it's just gratitude?
David: Let me tell you something about the Pine Valley mob mentality. Anyone that colors outside of their provincial, cramped, little lines, they can't stand. It drives them crazy. They hate originality. They resent genius. And they will do anything they can to bring it down. So the choice is yours, Cara. Are you gonna be like Angie and Zach -- enlightened? Grateful for all the good that I've done? Or are you gonna go by way of the ignorant mob?
Erica's Voice: Ha ha! I beg your pardon?
Mike: What is it you do, exactly, that has garnered you so much fame?
Erica: You don't know who I am?
Mike: Until I got a message from the publisher, I'd never even heard of you.
Erica: You're the only man in the world I care about.
Mike: Prove it.
Erica: Put down your chopsticks.
Mike: My glasses, too?
Erica: And your glasses.
Mike: What are you gonna do?
Erica: Mike.
Maya: It's so great of you to help me.
Angie: You deserve to know that your child is safe.
Maya: Do you think -- I know what I did was beyond horrible. But do you think that there's any chance that I could get my baby back?
Tad: You want me, after everything you saw me go through with Kathy, to drop an investigation about a missing baby girl? What the hell is up?
Jesse: I just want you to leave this to me, ok?
Tad: What am I supposed to tell my client? "I'm sorry about your heartbreak, but you're out of luck. Your baby stays missing"?
Jesse: Tad, please. I'm asking you. No questions. No investigation.
Tad: I'm asking you. Look, if there's a problem, if you're in a tight spot, you come to me. You tell me about it. I'll help you out.
Jesse: I'm telling you what you can do to help me out. Now, if this friendship means anything to you, you will walk away from this.
Tad: How dare you come at me like that? You know exactly what this friendship is about. You know that I would do anything for you. But we're talking about a missing baby girl. Someone's child. It's tearing her apart, and I am gonna find her.
Jesse: I know where this baby is. The baby's Lucy, Tad.
Griffin: Kendall? Kendall?
Zach: Kendall is not gonna make it.
