Kendall: Well, what do you have there?
Spike: I drew it and colored it.
Kendall: That is so good! Come here. Let me see this. Ok, what does it say? It says, "Welcome home -- and go, Red Wings." Daddy Zach is gonna love this.
Spike: Is Dr. Castillo coming to the party, too?
Zach: No, that's not what I'm saying. It's not that I don't appreciate your fine hospitality. What I'm saying is that it's time for you to maybe get me my --
Griffin: Your discharge papers?
Zach: Thank you so much. I think I'm checking out. Thank you, Nirva. You're the greatest. Hey.
Griffin: Hey. I don't blame you for wanting to be in a rush to get out of here.
Zach: Oh, no. What's a few more minutes? We got to talk some business.
Griffin: If this is about me and Kendall --
Zach: It's about me -- offering you something you can't refuse.
[Knock on door]
David: Yeah?
Cara: Good morning!
David: Apparently a very good one for somebody.
Cara: It's morning, yes? Because I didn't sleep at all last night, and it's because of you.
Tad: Dixie. Good morning.
Dixie: Good morning. I thought it was a good morning.
Tad: The dark sedan.
Dixie: "Dark sedan"? Is that a password or something? I think I left my code book in the car.
Tad: It's Immigration -- they're across the street.
Dixie: Oh. Really?
Tad: Yeah.
Dixie: Are they following you guys that closely?
Tad: It's lightened up a little bit. They stop by once a week. There was this guy named Agent Turmbull who was after us when we first got together, and he was pretty rabid.
Dixie: Wow. I just stopped by to see if I could take Kathy to breakfast.
Tad: I'm sorry. You can't. I dropped her at a play date.
Dixie: Oh. Oh. That's too bad. I guess I should go, then. I don't want to make Cara uncomfortable.
Tad: It's kind of hard to do when she's not even here. That's why this is such a bad idea, because she didn't come home last night.
Dixie: Oh. Where do you think she is?
Tad: Where she shouldn't be: With David.
Dixie: Tad, that's horrible. I'm so sorry.
Tad: And speaking of David, do you remember? We were talking about you saying there was somebody else with you in that room where he kept you.
Dixie: Yes. All I could remember was a woman's hand.
Tad: I have a pretty good idea of whose it was.
Gillian's voice: I love you, Ryan. Good-bye.
Greenlee: Morning. Thinking about Gillian?
Ryan: Yeah, I was.
Greenlee: Yeah. Me, too. We haven't said Gillian's name in forever, and now she's front and center.
Ryan: Just because of a few twisted words from Hayward.
Greenlee: Hmm. Not just words. People have risen from their graves.
Ryan: I mean, that's true, and that's a lot. That's enough to make people wonder "what if" and pray and -- I mean, I get that, but it's how David is using their grief. It's just so sick.
Greenlee: But we have to ask the "what if," because it is possible.
Ryan: Not in this case, no. David does not have Gillian doped up somewhere.
Greenlee: Yeah, but --
Ryan: If he did, he wouldn't be dropping little innuendos. He would've carried her into our wedding, because the man does not want us to be happy even for one second.
Greenlee: You're right. I just -- I know what I went through thinking about Leo, and you felt the same way about Gillian.
Ryan: I did. And we talked about this. They're part of us. But right here, right now, I know. I know that you love me, and I feel the same way about you.
Greenlee: Yeah, I guess I just need to trust that. David put Gillian in my head.
Ryan: You did the right thing when you told me, because he wanted you to sit on it, let it fester inside you. But by telling me, by trusting me, you take all the power away.
Greenlee: I guess I learned my lesson.
Ryan: Yeah, we both made our fair share of mistakes, but it's important that we continue to be honest with each other about them.
Greenlee: Look at us -- we've grown.
Ryan: Ha ha ha! We're definitely not the same people we were when we were with other people because this is our time now.
Greenlee: What's this?
Ryan: Just open it. Ok. It's a piece of property I put a bid on. It's something that I hope will be able to house the Cambias and Fusion offices together.
Greenlee: It's beautiful.
Ryan: You think?
Greenlee: Yeah. It's perfect. [Hug]
Tad: Dixie, think about it. It had to be Greenlee on that gurney next to you. It would make sense that she would've been with you while David had you trapped.
Dixie: I guess it could be. I don't remember, though. I just remember an overwhelming sense of dread.
Tad: For our purposes, could you narrow it down to, like, just intense anxiety just for a sec?
Dixie: As much as I was scared for what was happening to me, I think I was more terrified about what was happening to the woman next to me, because I think that David was damaging her in some irreparable way.
Tad: Which would make sense. I wasn't around Greenlee a lot when she got back to Pine Valley, but from what I understand, he really had her under his thumb.
Dixie: No, it's just Greenlee is not clicking.
Tad: Maybe it'll click later.
Dixie: Maybe.
Tad: I'm sorry. I guess I should just be grateful you were able to escape from the little science experiment.
Dixie: Yeah, some of us were very lucky to escape with our lives.
Tad: It's amazing. Hayward spends his entire life trying to convince the world he's the angel of mercy. It's a good thing a few of us know different.
Dixie: You're worried about Cara.
Tad: Yeah. She's got to see him for the monster he is before it's too late.
Cara: I just cannot get over how innovative and groundbreaking your research is. All the lives that you're going to save, that you have saved, that you -- thank you. I am honored to be a part of this project with you.
David: And I am happy to have you on board. But if your brother opens his mouth to the FDA, there might not be a project.
Cara: Yeah. Yeah, I'm surprised that he's letting his personal feelings interfere with his professional judgment -- his feelings for Kendall.
David: Believe me, I get it. Zach shows up all of a sudden. Now, I suppose I could've warned him about it, but, honestly, I don't think there ever would've been a great time for him to hear it.
Cara: Yeah, I don't agree with what you did, but I understand it.
David: And I understand how much you and Griff mean to each other, and, frankly, I think it's quite a beautiful relationship. I don't want to come between that.
Cara: Thanks. I'm behind you 100% on this. And once I talk to my brother, he will be, too. See you around.
Zach: I want you to run the clinic I'm gonna open in the abandoned house you used to hide in.
Griffin: Kendall told you about that.
Zach: Kendall tells me everything.
Griffin: So you're doing this for me. What am I doing for you?
Zach: It's a gesture of my appreciation. There are no strings.
Griffin: But you won't mind if I sign on again with David's project.
Zach: You're a big boy. You can make your own choices.
Griffin: You know I have issues with the man.
Zach: I have issues with him, too. This is much bigger than that, the work that's being done now.
Griffin: I know what's being done, and I want nothing to do with it.
Zach: You're a proud man, Castillo.
Griffin: Is that a question?
Zach: It's a fact.
Griffin: This has nothing to do with my pride.
Zach: So, what, you just don't want to work for me?
Griffin: I've worked for you before.
Zach: "Before"? Before you and Kendall?
Griffin: There is no "me and Kendall."
Zach: Yeah, but that wasn't really your choice, now, was it?
Griffin: Listen, we can talk hypotheticals all day, but if you're in this room past 11 a.m., they're gonna charge you --
Zach: I can afford it.
Griffin: While you were gone, yeah, I helped Kendall. I saw her pain at losing you, and you're a lucky man. Not everybody gets love like that. There were moments when she almost gave up, and in those moments, I was her friend.
Zach: "A friend"?
Griffin: Look, you want to grill me for caring about someone you love, then you go on right ahead. But for the record, it's a good thing you're back, because that's what she wanted. David, however, is using you for his own purpose.
Zach: I don't see it that way.
Griffin: That's because you're a proud man, too. And whether you see it or not, David is holding his power over you. Greenlee and Dixie were able to break free from that power. Hopefully soon for you and your family's sake, you will, too.
Kendall: You know what? I don't think Dr. Castillo will be able to make it to the party. He's very busy at the hospital. I have an idea. Why don't you and Ian go and change into your Red Wing jerseys? Go! All right.
[Knock on door]
Greenlee: Zach's coming home today?
Kendall: Yes, he's coming home, clean bill of health. Come in. Can you help me with some stuff, please?
Greenlee: Yeah, sure.
Kendall: All right, I got -- Spiky made a sign.
Greenlee: Aw!
Kendall: I know. It's too cute. Can you help me? I got to figure out where to put this. I think I want to put it right here, but I don't know.
Greenlee: A little higher. That looks good.
Kendall: Ok.
Greenlee: I took your advice.
Kendall: For once?
Greenlee: Ha-ha.
Kendall: About?
Greenlee: Gillian.
Kendall: So you told Ryan. And?
Greenlee: And you were right. He completely understood what I was feeling. And he told me not to let David or anyone else make me doubt that again.
David: Not even you can ruin my good mood, Lavery.
Ryan: I can certainly try. My wife has been talking to me about possibilities of people that you might bring back.
David: Oh, yeah. That's right. Yes, Greenlee seemed to be very worried about some of the possibilities.
Ryan: I have my own theory on the subject.
David: Really?
Ryan: Leora.
David: What about her?
Ryan: You must've brought Leora back, right? I mean, you loved her as much as somebody like you could have that feeling, so you must've brought her back to Pine Valley. She'd be, what, about 8 years old now?
David: I don't know what you think you're doing, but it's --
Ryan: Cruel, heartless to suggest someone you may have lost came back? To poke at the dead just to get a reaction? Yes, it's very cruel, very heartless.
David: You made your point. Now get the hell out.
Ryan: I got more than one point to make. If you think that you can disrupt my marriage by bringing back the ghosts of Pine Valley, you got to think again, Hayward. I know this has got to be really painful for you, but Greenlee and I are solid. We're good, and nothing you do can change that.
Tad: Come on.
Dixie: I know you don't want to see what happened to me happen to Cara.
Tad: Dixie, Cara told David about our marriage -- the green card?
Dixie: Oh, that's terrible.
Tad: You think? He could do anything he wants with that information. And I saw what he was willing to do to Greenlee when she tried to pull away from him. All David's got to do is mention Cara's name to Immigration, she could lose her life. All I want her to do is pick up her damn phone.
Dixie: I should give you some privacy.
Tad: I don't want privacy. I want you to stay.
[Phone vibrates]
Cara: Hi.
Griffin: Hi. I hope you're here to tell me that you finally came to your senses.
Cara: I was actually hoping the same thing about you.
Griffin: Listen, I know David a little better than you do, and I'm telling you to steer clear.
Cara: This isn't junior high school, big brother. You don't get to tell me who the bad boys are.
Griffin: Ok.
Cara: Stop it. Ok, please sit down. Please sit down. Let's start over. I know you're hurting about Kendall.
Griffin: This has nothing to do with that, and that does not matter here.
Cara: Ok. Then let's put our energy into something that does matter: Project Orpheus. Griff, we've both read the research. It's absolutely extraordinary, and we can be a part of it together.
Griffin: Cara, wake up. Please. I'm not the one here who's letting hurt get in the way of their judgment.
Tad: Still no answer.
Dixie: Ahem. As much as I would love to keep you company, I think that perhaps you should go and track down your wife on your own.
Tad: Maybe, but I can't help myself. I don't want to let you out of my sight -- not for one minute. You know last night I woke up in a panic? I had this nightmare that I'd never see you again, that this whole thing was some kind of dream. And to make matters worse, I go to the window, and I look up, couldn't see anything -- clouds all over the place.
Dixie: Just because there's clouds doesn't mean there aren't stars behind them. I'm not going anywhere, Tad. [Kiss]
Singer: Where do we go now?
Cara: This has nothing to do with Tad and me. If it did, why would I be working with David? He's the one who brought Dixie back, and that ended my marriage.
Griffin: Caracita, if you need someone to lean on, let it be me. You don't know David Hayward. All you know is his work, right?
Cara: That's actually not entirely true. We have spent time together.
Griffin: Tell me you didn't. Look me in the eye and tell me when I found you in his hotel room, it was because you were just hiding out from me and Tad.
Kendall: I'm happy for you and Ryan. You two deserve to be in a good place.
Greenlee: Speaking of which, Ryan put a bid in on a building. He wants Cambias and Fusion to be under the same roof. Our offices would be on one end, and his offices would be on the other, if you're cool with it.
Kendall: Yeah. I think that's a great idea.
Greenlee: Yeah? Me, too.
Kendall: Yeah. Good. Ok, can you just help me with this? Tell me if this looks good. Hold on. Does it look good there?
Greenlee: No, I don't --
Kendall: Forget it. It's not gonna work. This is a bad idea.
Greenlee: Hey. What's wrong?
Kendall: Nothing. It needs to be perfect, ok? Everything here needs to be perfect.
Greenlee: It is perfect. Zach is coming home.
Kendall: I should be happy, right?
Greenlee: You are happy, aren't you?
Kendall: I don't know. Zach is different. He's different. It's like he's not himself. I don't know. I'm trying to support him. I'm trying to be supportive of the whole David-and-Orpheus thing, and -- I shouldn't even be talking about this.
Greenlee: Yes, you should. I saw that you were upset about it earlier, and I should've made you talk about it. Zach siding with David is a shock, and you don't like it any more than the rest of us, do you?
Ryan: I do know that you would do anything to get to my wife, including using the memory of your own dead brother, suggesting that Leo is still alive. So what is it? You got Leo and Gillian packed on ice someplace just waiting for your call? Is that how this works?
David: You know something, Ryan? I know this is gonna be a shocker to you, but this isn't about you. In fact, it's not even about Greenlee.
Ryan: No, it's about you! Right? See, you can't even argue that point.
David: Ok, you know something? I'm not going to attempt to explain the enormity of my work to you. It would be thoroughly lost on you.
Ryan: Then I'm gonna make sure that you understand something really clearly: Just stay out of my marriage.
David: I am not the one barging into your office all the time. Honestly, I think that you and Greenlee enjoy having me as your enemy. It distracts you both from what's really missing in your relationship: Life -- and that's exactly what I'm all about.
Ryan: No, I know exactly what you're all about, Hayward.
David: Really?
Ryan: Yes.
David: What?
Ryan: I do. I know all the people that you've hurt, and I want to tell you that it stops now.
David: "It"? Orpheus?
Ryan: Orpheus, you -- whatever I have to do to take you down.
Zach: I guess that means you're taking me down, too.
Kendall: I am standing by Zach no matter what.
Greenlee: Even if that means he's standing by David? I've been where Zach is, and I know it's hard to believe that someone like Zach could be controlled by someone else. But how else do you explain him standing in David's corner?
Kendall: I'm happy Zach is back. Shouldn't that be enough?
Greenlee: Listen, I get that you want to enjoy that. But how can you stand by your husband when you know what he's doing is wrong?
Kendall: Greenlee, if Zach can take this and help people with it, how could that not be a positive thing?
Greenlee: How many people have tried to convince David to use his talents and be a better man? Me. Erica. Dixie. Krystal. The list goes on and on.
Kendall: I can't talk about this right now. No, I have to get to the hospital, and Zach is waiting for me.
Greenlee: Kendall, I --
Kendall: Listen, Greenlee, I meant what I said. I'm happy for you and Ryan. I am. So why can't you just be happy for me and Zach?
Greenlee: I am. Listen. You know you can talk to me about anything, even if we don't agree.
Kendall: When do we ever?
Greenlee: All right. I'm here for you if you want to talk about anything.
Zach: So what do we do now?
Ryan: You tell me. After everything that this man has done to the people of this town, you're gonna choose to stand with him?
Zach: I'm exactly where I need to be.
David: Zach understands what Orpheus can be. He sees its potential.
Zach: I got to agree with my partner on this one. See, your problem, Ryan -- no offense -- is that you underestimate the value of things -- like that commercial property on Allen Street. You underbid on it, and we took it away from you.
Ryan: How did you know about that?
Zach: Keep your friends close --
Ryan: And your enemies closer? Is that what I am now?
Zach: We haven't always agreed on things.
Ryan: We have with respect to him.
Zach: Not anymore. Do you want me to call my realtor and find you some cheap office space in a house or anywhere?
David: Looks like you finally convinced Ryan that you're on my side.
Zach: I hope so.
David: Your problem is I'm not as gullible as Lavery.
Griffin: This man has no morals, no ethics. He doesn't care about who he hurts, but I do, and the next person is not going to be you.
Cara: You talk about him like he's made of evil.
Griffin: That's because he puts himself above any laws, both man's and God's.
Cara: Ok. Look, I don't know him as well as you do, but I believe he has a heart.
Griffin: Oh, wow. David served you a big dose of something, and you just took it right down, didn't you?
Cara: Griff, we can do this together, ok?
Griffin: You pick any spot on the globe. I'll go to my place, pack my bags, and we will go there tonight. We will do what we do -- help people who don't have anybody else, people who have no hope.
Cara: Or we could do that here together.
Griffin: I'm not just gonna sit back and watch David suck you in. You understand me?
Tad: Makes two of us. You've been ignoring my calls.
Griffin: Yeah, apparently she's been busy.
Tad: I saw your car out front. That's why I stopped in. You do remember we have that Immigration interview, right? I thought it would be nice if we'd go over our answers and just make sure we're on the same page.
Cara: Yeah. I got to do this, Griff.
Griffin: Think about what I said -- and pick up when I call you.
Cara: Ok.
Griffin: Tad, you promised me you would take care of my sister. If she's with David Hayward, neither of us is doing a very good job.
Tad: He's a smart man, your brother.
Cara: We should get to work.
Tad: Yeah. I'm sorry. I realize this is probably the last thing you want to do right now, is have to work on our marriage.
Cara: Actually, I'd like to ace this interview, because the last thing I want to do is leave Pine Valley.
Zach: You think what you want -- you're your own man.
David: So are you, Zach. I'm sure you're being bombarded with warnings from all sides that I have you under some sort of spell. Where are you going?
Zach: I got to make some phone calls. I tried to get Griffin back on board. It turns out your former student doesn't like you very much.
David: So he's still going to the FDA, huh?
Zach: Let me call a friend in Washington. I know you don't trust me, but for the record, I don't completely trust you either.
David: At least we're honest with each other about that, huh? Now, if you can cut off Griffin at the knees the way you just did with Lavery, that might go a long way in convincing me that you and I are really on the same side.
Zach: Castillo's not a threat.
David: To Orpheus, or to you and Kendall?
Zach: Leave Kendall out of this.
David: I'm just trying to figure out your motive, Zach. Are you really interested in helping me, or is this more about you putting Griffin Castillo in his place?
Zach: His place is out of the way. As long as I put him there, what do you care?
Griffin: Hey.
Kendall: Hi.
Griffin: Are you taking off?
Kendall: Uh, yeah. I was gonna go pick up Zach. What happened?
Griffin: David Hayward, and this time he happened to my sister.
Greenlee: Hey. I have some great ideas for our shared space. Now, I know you don't like looking at swatches --
Ryan: Greenlee.
Greenlee: But I have some -- what?
Ryan: Somebody beat us to the property.
Greenlee: Who?
Ryan: Zach.
Tad: And that's it. I think we're up to speed on this.
Cara: Yep. I think we could convince anyone we know each other better than we actually do.
Tad: So you got a couple minutes for the man you married?
Cara: Not if you're gonna try to talk me out of working with David.
Tad: Cara, I have to. It's a mistake.
Cara: Really? How's it a mistake? Because as a doctor, you want to make a difference. And Project Orpheus -- that's gonna change medical history.
Tad: Yeah, but the man who runs it is not who you think he is. He's not a good person.
Cara: And that's one man's opinion.
Tad: Cara, it's not just my opinion. It's the whole town's opinion.
David: So you finally came by to thank me, huh?
Dixie: For?
David: For giving you back your life, Dixie. I'm surprised Tad let you out of his sight.
Dixie: Cara Castillo?
David: You want to know more about the new Mrs. Tad Martin? I'm not sure I can help you with that, but please come in. Have a seat. We'll talk. I promise I don't bite.
Dixie: You can't hurt her.
David: Cara is a big girl. She knows what she's getting into.
Dixie: I doubt that.
David: So is that what this is about? What, did Tad send you here to fight his battles for him, to make sure that big, bad David Hayward doesn't break the heart of another one of his wives?
Dixie: Ha. Ha ha!
David: Did I say something funny?
Dixie: I just remember what you're all about.
David: Really? Wow. That's fascinating. Please enlighten me.
Dixie: I keep thinking that it's ego or arrogance or just ambition that drives you to do the things you do, but it's none of those things. It's jealousy. You're jealous of Tad.
David: I think you're still suffering the effects from your treatment. Your confusion could be brought on by some neurological issues.
Dixie: Oh, I think I'm the one that's hit a nerve.
David: All right. Now you're wasting my time.
Dixie: Tad is everything you're not.
David: Thank God for that.
Dixie: He is loving and kind and decent and respected and accepted by everyone in this town -- something you would kill for.
David: And that is changing even as we speak. Project Orpheus, my life's work, is already opening the eyes of people to who I really am.
Dixie: Oh, I hope so. Now I understand why you went after Cara.
David: Because she's a damn good doctor.
Dixie: Because she's somebody that Tad cares about, and you want everything that he has. That's your life's work -- to corrupt and ruin the lives of people that Tad loves and that love him, because those same people would never love you for the lesser man you really are.
Tad: Come on. You know I think the world of you.
Cara: No, actually, I don't because I'm trying to make my own decisions, you're not supporting me, and you think I'm a victim.
Tad: Of David's, yes -- and believe me, you're in pretty good company there.
Cara: Wow. People think he's the one with the ego.
Tad: Cara, it's not about me.
Cara: Then let's keep it that way.
Tad: You don't think I know how badly I hurt you, how sorry I am because of it? It's the last thing in the world I ever wanted, but if you know any other way, please share it with me. Because I've looked at this from every other angle, and I couldn't see any other way through it. Don't you think I know, before Dixie came back, that you and I were headed somewhere?
Cara: Yeah, of course. But we couldn't even make it to Cape Cod. So could you just do me a favor, please, in the future? Can you stop being so nice to me? Can you stop apologizing to me? Can you stop being the good guy, because it's not fair that it's so damn hard for me to hate you.
Greenlee: Why would Zach buy that property out from under us?
Ryan: To show us that he can and he will do anything possible to make our lives difficult as long as we go up against him and Hayward. I know you told me that you don't want me to go against him for Kendall's sake, but there's something definitely going on here.
Greenlee: It's like now that Zach is working for David --
Ryan: He is acting just like him, and I'm not gonna stand around on the sidelines and watch.
Kendall: I am sorry about Cara. I'm sure she's probably really upset about Tad and Dixie, and knowing David, he was there to take advantage.
Griffin: This isn't just about Cara. I just talked to Zach.
Kendall: All right. Ok. If you came here to slam my husband for backing David, I've had enough of that for one day, thank you.
Griffin: Ok. Ok. But then maybe you can just answer me one question. I was here when you lost Zach. I sat in this room, and I saw you grieving over his death. I saw you almost give up on your own life because you didn't think it was worth living without Zach. You were devastated by your husband's death. Right?
Kendall: I thought you had a question.
Griffin: Zach's back. How come you look so miserable? Let me answer that for you. It's because he's not the same man, is he?
Kendall: Griff, you don't know Zach at all. You don't know him the way I do.
Griffin: You're right. I don't know him the way that you do, but I do know David Hayward, and the words that were coming out of your husband's mouth earlier today sounded a whole lot like Hayward's to me.
Kendall: I'm running late. I have to go pick him up from the hospital.
Griffin: We don't know what David did to bring Zach back. We don't even know if those treatments are safe, if there are any side effects.
Kendall: What are you saying?
Griffin: I'm saying I'm concerned about your husband, and obviously so are you.
Kendall: What kind of side effects?
Griffin: With Project Orpheus, there might be some kind of mind control -- Maria Santos lost her memory, Greenlee married the guy, and now Zach.
Kendall: No, Griffin, listen to me. I've spoken to Zach about this. He knows exactly what he's doing.
Griffin: Listen, Kendall, I know you want to be happy, and maybe you don't want to rock the boat, but you're the only one that Zach will listen to. Hey, when we first met, we were on opposite sides about David Hayward, but now I've come around to see the man for who he really is. You need to do the same for your husband.
Kendall: He's waiting for me.
Griffin: Kendall, I can see it in your eyes. You know that I'm right about this.
