Amanda: You will have to give Trevor a big hug and two big kisses for me, ok?
Jake: Well, I think you're gonna have to do it tomorrow.
Amanda: Jake, don't tease me.
Jake: I'm not teasing you. You don't have to stay here because your blood work came back perfect.
Amanda: Good things are happening to the people in this town -- Dixie, Zach, me. That's just the beginning.
Ryan: Ricky Torres is dead?
Jesse: Yep. Seems the right Reverend Ricky finally met his maker. It wasn't pretty.
Ryan: I'm guessing it wasn't an accident.
Jesse: Unless he fell over backwards onto an ice pick in the prison yard.
Ryan: Somebody knew that I wanted to talk to him, so that somebody shut him up.
Jesse: Right, and I know your answer to that one, right?
Ryan: Since Ricky was the one who took Zach's plane down, I wanted to talk to him to find out if he had any idea how Hayward got there in time to save Zach.
Zach: Kendall and Griffin, are they having a relationship?
Greenlee: They've gotten close.
Zach: How close?
Greenlee: I wouldn't call it a relationship.
Zach: What'd you call it?
Greenlee: It's complicated.
Zach: How complicated? They're either having one, or they're not having one. Griffin, he's one of the good guys, isn't he?
Kendall: Oh, my goodness, Sandra is going to have her hands full with the boys today. I mean, honestly, how can I expect them to be calm after seeing Zach? They thought he was in heaven.
Griffin: They weren't the only ones.
Kendall: Yeah. Well, I got a bunch of clothes for Zach to change into. So do you think maybe you can drive me to the hospital?
Griffin: After.
Kendall: After?
Griffin: Yeah.
Kendall: Yeah? After what?
Griffin: Lunch. I had this delivered. You still haven't eaten.
Kendall: Ok. Honestly, Griff, my husband is here. He is alive. He's waiting for me. I can't stop and eat a tuna fish sandwich. I don't have time for that.
Griffin: I'm still your doctor.
Kendall: You've been a lot more than that. You know it.
Griffin: You can be happy in front of me. Zach coming back is good news. I mean, he's one of the good guys, right?
Cara: Yeah. That's right. One-way ticket. Thanks.
David: Fight or flight.
Cara: Excuse me?
David: Despite thousands of years of evolution, humans respond to stressful situations in a very instinctual way. Some stay and fight while others, well, they book airline tickets. Now, I know Dixie's unlikely return has thrown you off your game, but I never figured you as one who runs from a fight.
Tad: I love you, Dixie. I never stopped.
Dixie: I love you, too.
Tad: You're not gonna vanish, are you?
Dixie: No.
Tad: It's, like, you're here. This is real, right?
Dixie: Of course, this is real. Tad, you're everything to me. I mean, you are what kept me going all those years I was alone -- you, the memory of you, of us.
Tad: Together.
Dixie: Forever.
Greenlee: So Griffin saved her life in the back of an ambulance.
Zach: And I'm the one that put her there.
Greenlee: What?
Zach: Said it yourself, my death broke Kendall's heart, and then the good doctor came and put it back together again in more ways than one. What else am I being spared?
Greenlee: Well, Ricky Torres, the man that made your plane go down, Kendall got the evidence to put him in prison with Griffin's help.
Zach: She put her life on the line for me.
Greenlee: Would you expect anything less?
Zach: Nope.
Griffin: Zach ever mention anything about the accident, its aftermath?
Kendall: No. He just mentioned the plane crashing and hitting the water, and then he said everything went dark, and actually, he was really out of it when we had that discussion.
Griffin: You think he was trying to save you all the gory details?
Kendall: Maybe. That's Zach's excuse. What's yours?
Griffin: For?
Kendall: Shutting me out. Why are you all of a sudden concerned about Zach and what he remembers? Is there something about the crash that you're not telling me?
Cara: Well, I don't see how any of this is your concern. Excuse me.
David: Well, you do still work for me. So if you're planning to pick up your stakes and fly off into the wild, blue yonder, my hospital would be losing a terrific doctor.
Cara: I think Pine Valley will be just fine without me.
David: Mm. Don't sell yourself short, Cara. You have a great many strengths, as far as I can see, only one weakness.
Cara: And what would that be?
David: An inexplicable attraction to Martin men.
Cara: Excuse me.
David: Ok. I'm sorry. My bad, all right? The wound is still fresh but clearly not as fatal as it may seem. You know, the first time I met you, you were fighting leukemia for the second time.
Cara: I can't really run from cancer, David.
David: No. No. You can't. Now, they had wanted to take you off of chemo. The effects it was having was minimal, but the side effects, well, they were killing you. Now, your brother called me in. He asked me to consult, do whatever I can, use whatever connections I had. Now, I remember when the oncologist came into your room, you saw the look on his face, and you wouldn't let him speak. Now, you shouldn't have had the strength to lift your little finger, but you leaped out of that bed. You climbed on top of it, and you jumped up and down. You were screaming at the top of your lungs, refusing him to speak.
Cara: So you saw that, huh?
David: Yes. I did.
Cara: Not my prettiest moment.
David: I doubt you've ever been more beautiful. It was as if he was death, and you were standing up to him, turning him away.
Cara: So what's your point?
David: I think your brother Griffin is a brilliant physician.
Cara: He is.
David: Yes, but he's only gonna go so far.
Cara: It's called ethics.
David: Well, I'll let other people debate the right and wrong of it, but if we can't use everything within our means to save a life that would otherwise be lost, then why are we doctors?
Jake: Ok. So tell me more about this whole feeling that you had when you came out of the surgery. I'm just baffled.
Amanda: It's more of a knowing.
Jake: A knowing? Knowing what?
Amanda: Knowing that I'm ok and knowing that I deserve good things like my health, my husband, and my lovely little boy --
Jake: Well, I'm glad that you're finally getting it.
Amanda: And knowing that something big is gonna happen, bigger than David, bigger than all of us. This is about love. Both Tad and Kendall thought their soulmates were gone, only to have Zach and Dixie find their way back to them. I mean, that has to be --
Cara: Oh, please don't stop talking, because I enter the room. Jake knows I hate it when people think I'm made of glass, right?
Jake: No. Yeah. We weren't doing that.
Cara: Can I say, for the record, I'm happy for Dixie and Tad.
Tad: Ooh, ooh, ooh.
Dixie: What? What's the matter?
Tad: The marriage to Cara. See, there's too much at stake. I can't afford to have Immigration start asking questions.
Dixie: They'll deport her.
Tad: Well, it's more than that. She's got a price on her head in Mexico. If they kick her out of the country, she's a dead woman. See, that's why it happened. It's a long story. Short, by doing something good, she made some very bad people very, very angry, so --
Dixie: So you married her to save her life.
Tad: Yeah.
Dixie: You did, didn't you?
Tad: Well, it's not funny.
Dixie: No. It's wonderful. It's wonderful of you. I -- so we can't do anything that will compromise her.
Tad: Right. Wait. What do you mean?
Dixie: I'm afraid that kiss we just had, it's got to be our last.
Tad: Whoa, wait a minute. Just a minute. If I had to go for the rest of my life with one last kiss, then that's the one if could live with -- make no mistake -- but why? I mean, you're home. You're alive. We have so much time to make up for.
Dixie: Stop. Come on. I mean, you just said Cara's life is in danger.
Tad: Right. Right, and I don't want to do anything to risk that.
Dixie: You know, it's not just Cara, though. It's the kids. It's Kathy and J.R. I want Kathy to get to know me. I want to spend time with them. Come on. It's not like I don't want you as much as you want me.
Tad: I seriously doubt that.
Dixie: Ha ha! I just think that I've made a lot of selfish choices.
[Tad laughs]
Dixie: What?
Tad: Oh, I see. No. Forgive me. I get it now. So, in other words, the last kiss thing, you were actually doing that for me.
Dixie: Oh, stop. Come on. This is for our kids. They need me. They need to spend time with me, and I need to spend time with them. Don't you understand? I need to make things right for them.
Amanda: Would you two mind giving me a few minutes. A girl needs a little privacy every now and then.
Jake: Of course.
Cara: Sure.
Jake: I'm right outside the door if you need me, all right?
Jake: So --
Cara: I don't know what to say.
Jake: So then it's a done deal.
Cara: Well, Tad is tying himself up in knots trying not to hurt me. You know, the truth is, I see the way that he looks at Dixie, and it's the same way you look at Amanda. So now that I've seen what happiness looks like, I'm not gonna settle for anything less, no matter where I end up.
Jake: Mm. See, I missed it the last time.
Cara: Missed what?
Jake: When you were going good-bye, you know, you didn't actually use the words, but -- because that's what you're doing, right? You're saying good-bye?
Kendall: Griffin, I haven't forgotten all that you've done and all that we've been through. I mean, you put yourself out there once for me, and now you're probably thinking that was a huge mistake.
Griffin: Do me a favor as a friend.
Kendall: Of course. Anything.
Griffin: Save me the whole "better to have loved and lost" song and dance. Honestly, I'm not up for it. Oh, Kendall, you think you can get yourself back to the hospital?
Kendall: Of course. Yeah.
Griffin: Thanks. You take care of yourself.
Ryan: Hey, hey, I got to talk to you for a sec. I got news --
Kendall: Ok. Hi.
Ryan: About Ricky.
Kendall: Well, if you're here to tell me that he's burning in hell, that's great. Other than that, I don't want to talk about him.
Ryan: He's burning in hell. He's dead.
Zach: Can I ask you something?
Greenlee: Mm-hmm.
Zach: Why were you in that room with me?
Greenlee: I was trying to get answers from David.
Zach: How did that go? Jesse, what, no flowers?
Greenlee: I'm gonna go. You be easy on him. Don't push him too hard.
Jesse: I'm sure if I do, he'll push right back.
Greenlee: Mm-hmm.
Zach: You got some news for me.
Jesse: What makes you ask that?
Zach: Wasn't asking. You got that look on your face that says that somebody died. Someone I knew?
Jesse: Do you know Ricky Torres?
Tad: You're absolutely sure I can't convince you to move in? I really think it would be a good idea.
Dixie: I think we both know that I should be with J.R. first, see if I can remember how to be a mom.
Tad: Dixie, come on.
Kathy: Is Cara here?
Tad: Why, did you break something?
Kathy: No. She put this on yesterday. Now it's time for it to come off.
Tad: Oh, here. Let me see.
Dixie: No, no, no. I think I can do this. Come on.
Cara: So don't worry about me, ok?
Jake: See, the problem is, I know how you are, your motives. When you think you're a problem for somebody else, you just take off.
Cara: Ok. Well, let me ask you this. What do you think the chances are of falling for two brothers and then getting hurt by both of them?
Jake: Uh, two in --
Cara and Jake: Two million.
Cara: Go be with your wife. You guys are so lucky to have each other.
Jake: Thank you.
Zach: So you're sure this fake man of God is dead?
Jesse: Oh, trust me, nobody is bringing this guy back.
Zach: What else you got for me?
Jesse: Ha! Your death.
Zach: Why do you care? It's not a homicide anymore.
Jesse: True. Let's just say I'm a curious guy. Is there anything that you remember about the plane crash? You remember anybody fishing you out of the water?
Zach: Sounds like you're fishing, Jesse.
Jesse: Would you -- I just want to make sure the people responsible for this pay, don't you?
Zach: You think I had Ricky Torres killed. Had motive and, until a couple days ago, perfect alibi.
Jesse: Well, I wasn't thinking that, but now that you bring it up, did you?
Zach: Here's what I'm hearing. You think there's still somebody else out there. That means Kendall is in danger.
Ryan: You ok?
Kendall: So many times, I wished Ricky dead, and now that he finally is, I guess we'll all get some closure.
Ryan: Maybe not. Somebody wanted Ricky dead, so he wouldn't tell anyone what he knew.
Kendall: About what?
Ryan: About Zach's plane crash.
Kendall: Of course. So now there are more questions to be answered. Look, Ryan. I really appreciate you not letting this go, but if you find out anything else, can you please come to me about it?
Ryan: You mean you, and not Zach?
Kendall: Yes. Zach has been to hell and back. In his condition, the last thing he needs to worry about is somebody else wanting to hurt us.
[Knocks on door]
David: Well, look who it is. What now? Oh, let me guess -- dizziness, shortness of breath. So what symptoms are we faking today?
Greenlee: Let's make this quick. What do you want with Zach?
David: My personal differences with the people of this town too often overshadowed my tremendous accomplishments as a doctor. Up until now, any legacy I may have had has been blotted out by ill will, but now when people think of David Hayward --
Greenlee: You want to be known for doing something good.
David: Mm-hmm. Well, they don't give the Nobel Prize for faking your own death.
Greenlee: They don't give it for shredding evidence, either.
David: Well, I have to protect my research from those who would seek to sabotage it, you know, small-minded people like your husband. Did he tell you that he broke into my office?
Greenlee: Was that before or after you drugged me and locked me up in your lab?
David: Ha ha! That's funny. Locked you up. You were there of your own free will, Greenlee, remember? You wanted to see Leo.
Greenlee: Don't even say Leo's name to me.
David: Fine, but maybe you're not the only one who has been holding a torch for someone who's passed on. Maybe I have another patient in my lab that has enough spark to get her fires burning again, you know, someone like -- oh, I don't know -- Gillian Andrassy, perhaps. So what do you think, Greenlee? Like Tad and Kendall, you think Ryan might be eager to see the love of his life again?
Ryan: Hey --
Griffin: Hey.
Ryan: You hear about Torres?
Griffin: It's all over the news.
Ryan: One day, Zach is found alive. The next day, Ricky is dead?
Griffin: What's it to me?
Ryan: What do you mean, what's it to you? I thought you --
Griffin: Look. I'm a doctor. I'm not a cop, spy, or some action hero. Before I came to Pine Valley, I wasn't solving crimes and finding dead women in my bed. The complications I had were in the O.R., and I was more than up to the task. After work, I'd have a few beers, maybe a hot girl, no worries.
Ryan: You're in love with her, aren't you?
Zach: Who else, Jesse? Who else kept me away from my family?
Jesse: I didn't say there was anybody else. I'm thinking that maybe there was somebody else. Tell you what. Why don't you concentrate on getting better, let me do my job? Tell me what you remember about the crash.
Zach: I have nothing that would help you.
Jesse: Oh, come on, Zach. I know you. I know you got something. Why won't you level with me? Last time you tried to handle it on your own, you damn near lost your life.
Kendall: Jesse.
Jesse: Hi, Kendall.
Kendall: Want to tell me what that's all about?
Jake: Do you think that there's a balance in happiness in this world? I mean, do you think that if one person ends up with more happiness, right, that somebody else in the world has to suffer?
Amanda: Talking about Cara and Tad?
Jake: Talking about Dixie is back, so, you know, what's Cara supposed to do?
Amanda: Cara and I have had our differences, and once I got to know her, and I started to feel more confident in what we had, she and I, we almost became friends, and I could see why you and Tad could love her. Cara will be fine.
Jake: Hmm. So that's your answer, then?
Amanda: Happiness is infinite, and we are all going to find that out very soon.
Jake: Is it, like, little quotes? I'm gonna put them on post-its all over. I like this new attitude. Maybe it can rub off on me.
Amanda: Ooh, well, come try. Mm.
Jake: I don't feel anything yet.
Amanda: Keep trying. Keep trying.
Dixie: You ready? Close your eyes.
Kathy: Ha ha!
Dixie: Here you go. Beautiful. Look. It's all better.
Kathy: You have to kiss it first.
Dixie: Oh, you're right. Whoo! How about that? Now it's all better.
Kathy: Are you gonna leave again?
Dixie: Oh, honey, no. No way. Never ever, ever. I just have to go see J.R. for a little while. You know, he has some bandages he needs put on and taken off, too.
Kathy: But I will see you again, right?
Dixie: Yes, absolutely, all the time, and hopefully, soon I'll be here with you and your sister and your dad and --
Tad: Hey.
Cara: Oh -- hi.
Tad: Um, could we go somewhere and talk?
Cara: Here's cool.
Tad: Uh, yeah. Sure.
Cara: So -- you're in love with Dixie?
Tad: Yeah. I want you to know that, no matter what happens, ok, I can't just walk away from you. I'm not gonna walk away from our marriage, and I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I'm gonna get you that green card, and Dixie understands. I mean, she's completely on board with it.
Cara: Hmm. Ok. Well -- when I first moved into your house, Krystal was already living there, and, you know, she had her reservations about our relationship, of course, and didn't take her very long to welcome me into her home, and I'm afraid that I'm just not gonna be that generous.
Tad: I wouldn't be so sure. Cara Castillo, I don't think you have the slightest idea of how amazing you really are.
Cara: Well, you're starting to sound like me. Remember when I said, you know, I was grateful?
Tad: Oh, God, yeah. Bring that up.
Cara: Yes. The G-word.
Tad: "Grateful."
Cara: That didn't go over very well, because you wanted me to want you. You wanted me to love you, and, well, now I want all of those things, and I'm not gonna stay here and settle for anything less. Here. You gave that to me on our wedding day.
Tad: I can't.
Cara: Well, it's a symbol of you putting your life into my hands, so you need to give it to Dixie, and you tell her that she damn well better be good to you.
Jake: I am so sorry. I'm, like, running red lights everywhere. I don't know what I'm doing, and there you go. These are all Dr. Castillo's files.
Nurse: Cara asked me to give them all to Dr. Patterson.
Jake: Right. Ok. Dr. Patterson. Huh.
David's Voice: I can give people back the life they lost -- but that gift -- is also mine to take away.
David: There was a time when people thought that Ryan would never get over losing Gillian. Who knows? Maybe he never has.
Greenlee: You don't have Gillian.
David: You sure about that?
Greenlee: Her heart is beating in Laura English's chest.
David: Well, maybe we need to double-check that with the physician who performed the transplant. Oh, that's right. That doctor would be me.
Greenlee: You can't make me squirm over Gillian. Ryan and I are on solid ground.
David: Hmm. If that were true, then why are your hands shaking? Maybe it's another one of those symptoms, huh? You're losing your touch, Greenlee. There was a time when you could hide your insecurities with some tough talk, but now I can see right through you.
Greenlee: I'll leave you to your delusions.
David: We both know I'm not the one lying to myself. Hey, tell Ryan an old friend says hello.
Griffin: Look. I'll buy you a beer of you want, but I am not talking to you about my feelings.
Ryan: Got it. Fine. No talking about Kendall. Then let's talk about David.
Griffin: Did you get anything new out of Dr. H.?
Ryan: No, nothing.
Griffin: I asked Kendall if Zach remembered anything, but that was a dead end.
Ryan: So you're, what, just gonna give up?
Griffin: What do you think?
Zach: Thanks to Jesse and Greenlee, I now know about the reverend.
Kendall: Well, you know that he's dead now.
Zach: That's one lucky man.
Kendall: All right. You know what, Zach? It's not worth getting worked up over Ricky Torres. The whole thing is done. It's done. It's over.
Zach: You put yourself in danger.
Kendall: Well, I couldn't let them get away with what they did to you.
Zach: And you and our kids. I'm not gonna let it slide.
Kendall: What exactly does that mean?
Zach: I'm just tired. Forget it.
Kendall: Yeah. I can, but I don't think you will. You're gonna do something, Zach. You're gonna go after someone. You're gonna get yourself killed for real this time. No, Zach. I will not let you do that to me again. I will not.
Tad: Hey, that must've been some dream.
Dixie: Oh -- it was more like a nightmare.
Tad: What was it?
Dixie: Oh, I don't remember, Tad.
Tad: Ok. Well, nothing but good dreams from now on, huh?
Dixie: Did you talk to Cara?
Tad: Yeah.
Dixie: Oh, good. Boy, I'm sorry, Tad.
Tad: I am, too.
Dixie: I'm gonna go check on Kathy, and then I'm gonna see how J.R. is doing, ok?
Tad: All right. Ok.
[Knocks on door]
Tad: Jake? What do you want?
Jake: You see Cara?
Tad: No. I just saw her at the hospital. Why?
Jake: Really? I think she's skipping town.
Cara: And another one for the road and wherever it takes me.
David: So what are we drinking to today?
Cara: Hi.
David: Hi.
Cara: Ah. I'm saying good-bye to Pine Valley. You know, I took fewer shots to the heart on the battlefield.
David: Hmm. So where's your husband? Oh. Well, if Dixie got Tad away from you, it sounds like you owe me a favor. The way I see it, Martins are now your past. So why don't we talk about your future?
Ryan: Where you been?
Greenlee: Checking on Zach.
Ryan: Oh. How is he?
Greenlee: Getting stronger.
Ryan: Good. Good. Maybe he can help us fill in some of the blanks.
Greenlee: Yeah. Well, good luck with that. You know how Zach loves to give information.
Ryan: Well, he must've said something to get you upset.
Greenlee: Eh, it wasn't Zach.
Ryan: Hayward? Because I thought we agreed --
Greenlee: I don't want to talk about David.
Ryan: I don't want to talk about him, either, but just tell me what he said to you.
Greenlee: Nothing. You know, with everything that's going on, I just want to focus on you and me for a while, ok? Mm.
Kendall: You know how much I hate it when you shut me out.
Zach: Why don't you just calm down for a second?
Kendall: No, no. Everybody has been asking me if you remember the crash or what came after that, and I keep telling them to just back off, but now, Zach, I can see it in your eyes. There is something else. There is something that you're not telling me.
Zach: Kendall --
Kendall: No. No. No. Come on. I wish you would just trust me enough to stop feeling like you have to protect me, ok? I mean, if we're gonna go back to the way things were when things were a complete mess, then why in the hell did you even bother coming back?
Zach: You finished? You want me to say something, right? So let me get a word in.
Kendall: Ok. Get in as many as you want.
Zach: I do have something to tell you, but you're not gonna like it. Close the door.
