Ryan: You're wasting your time. I've already been through the desk.

Griffin: Good for you.

Ryan: What are you looking for, Griffin?

Griffin: I don't know.

Ryan: You don't know? Griffin, that stuff you fed me about choosing between good and evil? I guess I decided to check it out for myself.

Ryan: So you're finally starting to doubt the great Dr. Hayward?

Griffin: I'm just looking for the truth.

Ryan: That is another thing that we have in common. Tell me about Project Orpheus. You want the truth? This is the first step, ok? Orpheus -- what is it?

Griffin: It's a research project.

Ryan: Research for what?

Erica: Stop lying! You will never get away with this! Do you hear me?!

Jesse: Erica, I know how you feel, but, really, I think you need to calm down.

Erica: Calm down?! He left me to rot in some glorified prison cell! And he helped an impostor play dress-up with my face and my clothes and my family and my life!

David: Everything's gonna be all right, Erica.

Erica: You knew what was going on! You knew it, and you did nothing! Nothing!

Jack: Listen to me. Are you saying that Hayward is behind this?

Erica: No! Behind it, no! But he certainly got in on it after my "rescue."

Jesse: So is look-alike. She locked you up somewhere. She comes to town, she takes over your life and fools us all?

Erica: Not all of you. Right, David? Did you honestly think I'm crazy.

Cara: Watching you say good-bye to Dixie was --

Tad: Bizarre? Surreal?

Cara: I was gonna say "touching."

Tad: Ha ha ha!

Cara: Are you ok?

Tad: Never been better. You?

Cara: I'm glad it felt right.

Tad: Me, too. Hey, check it out.

Kendall: Hi, guys.

Tad: Hello, hello, hello.

Kendall: Hello. Did I miss something?

Tad: No, not much. Just a sort of long-overdue impromptu farewell to Dixie. I've been thinking about her a lot, and I realized I never let her go. So we -- we talked about it a little bit with some people and got to relive some really, really good memories.

Kendall: That sounds beautiful.

Tad: It was.

J.R.: Mom? Mom?

Jack: No, we don't think you're crazy.

Jesse: We're just trying to get to the bottom of this.

Erica: You'd already be there if you would just listen to me.

Jack: That's what we're going to do right now, but I'd like you to have a seat, please>

Erica: Not a word out of your lying face. Do you understand me? You may have been able to manipulate Jane, but you will never manipulate me.

Jesse: Let her say what she has to say. You hear me?

David: The last thing I want to do is upset Erica now.

Erica: Oh, please. I can't believe you can stand there and say that to me with a straight face.

Jack: Just ignore him, please. Sit down and start from the beginning.

Erica: As I told you, I was on my way to our wedding rehearsal. Then all of a sudden, everything went dark. And the next thing I knew, I woke up, and I was tied to a chair, and I was blindfolded.

Jack: In St. Barts?

Erica: No. Somehow they managed to get me to Pine Valley, but I didn't know that at the time. And then this voice spoke to me. It was distorted, but it sounded very deep like a man's voice. She must've used some kind of a device.

Jesse: Did you get a look at her?

Erica: Not at first. Not for a long while. At first, I actually thought it might be Krystal, because she brought me food from Krystal's restaurant and because Krystal had been panting after you for months and months. But she insisted she wasn't. And when I finally came face to face with her -- you can't imagine what that was like. It was like looking at myself in a mirror, only it wasn't. And I found out from Ben --

Jack: Ok, who's Ben again?

Erica: Ben was her enforcer. He was a very sweet man.

Jesse: A very sweet man who's holding you captive?

Erica: The only reason he was doing it was out of guilt, but that doesn't matter right now. Jane had had a very difficult life, and her way changing things was to become me. Look, my point is that after the "rescue," she made her intentions clear.

Jesse: And those were?

Erica: To become Erica Kane.

Jack: Ok, let's go back for just a second. Let's go back to the rescue. We only went to that quarry because you sent us a message.

Erica: Yes, that's right. Jane was expecting me to do that. She wanted you to come. She had planned from the very beginning that you would rescue her from the rubble, not me. How could you not see that it wasn't me?

Jack: Erica, you had been acting not at all like yourself since the kidnapping.

Erica: Of course not. Because it wasn't me, it was Jane.

Jesse: So how did you get them to let you go?

Erica: I finally got Jane to see reason. I convinced her -- them, actually, because Ben was there. Ben was helping me. I convinced Jane that she needed to take back her life, provided that I would not turn her in -- and I had never seen where I really was. And I made her promise that she would get back her old life, her old face. Take back her face, not my face. And I thought it was really important that she own that, that she be proud of herself, that she own that. I think we all should. I know this sounds outrageous. It was outrageous, but please believe me. I'm telling you -- I'm telling you the truth.

J.R.: Man, I'm really drunk. But what the hell. You're probably disappointed in me, Mom. "Probably"? Hell, I know you're disappointed in me. I'm real sorry I don't have my act together. My wife -- excuse me, my ex-wife -- she left me for a chick. All the more reason to get wasted, huh? Ohh. This is a new one: No sad eyes, no shaking the head, no nothing. It wouldn't matter anyway. There's no amount of chocolate chip cookie that could fix it. I do miss you, Mom. It sure is nice dreaming about you like this, as if you're really here. The last time I saw you, I thought I was dying. Am I -- dying? Because sometimes I feel like it would just be better if it was all just over -- no more noise and no more nothing.

Kendall: You guys, I'm fine, really. I'm gonna wait for Griff. I'll wait over here.

Tad: The invitation's open, ok?

Kendall: Thank you.

Tad: If your brother stands that up, there's something wrong with him. Hmm.

Cara: He's not going to, no. Hold on. I -- just real quick, I wanted to say if the P.I. thing, if you decide to, you know --

Tad: Move to the left?

Cara: Switch gears -- I see another possible career move for you.

Tad: Oh, I can't wait.

Cara: Are you ready?

Tad: Yeah. A tamale sous-chef. Squirrel whisperer.

Cara: Hold on. I can't concentrate when you're -- "gathering overseer."

Tad: What? What the hell is that? I don't like the sound of that at all.

Kendall: "Professional master of ceremonies."

Cara: Yes! I love it.

Tad: That I like. I can go with that.

Cara: The way you were today, you were sweet and you were vulnerable, but you were funny and -- you were perfect.

Kendall: Hey, Tad, this one's a keeper. You better hang on to this one. She is a keeper.

Tad: I intend to.

Cara: Come on. Get over here. This is ridiculous.

Tad: I got a crouton with your name on it. Look.

Kendall: No. Honestly, I'm good. But Cara is right. She's right. Tad is -- he's the master at keeping things light.

Tad: Aw, shucks, guys. Come on, stop.

Kendall: No, it's true. Griffin and I could actually -- we could actually use that. Yeah, our relationship's been kind of intense.

Griffin: Even if I told you what I know about Project Orpheus, you would still refuse to see any good in what David's doing.

Ryan: Maybe that's because Hayward doesn't do any good.

Griffin: Thank you for proving my point.

Ryan: You weren't there when Greenlee came back, ok? She was different. She was fundamentally different. She was broken, and the worst part about it is she didn't even know it. Hayward did that to her.

Griffin: I'm sure it was horrible. And you're right: I wasn't there. But aside from my sister, Dr. H has done more for me than anyone else. He's taught me invaluable lessons in and outside of the operating room. The man is a genius.

Ryan: I'm not denying that.

Griffin: Then let him do his work in peace.

Ryan: Even if it means hurting people? Because that happens to be David Hayward's specialty.

Griffin: What if he's helping people? What if what he's doing is bigger than you or me or even Erica Kane?

Ryan: Tell me what David is doing, Griffin. People's lives are on the line here.

Griffin: Exactly. Which is why it's way too important to let you take it down.

Ryan: If Project Orpheus is as big as you're saying it is, then David shouldn't be alone in it, right? I mean, think about it. If it's really about saving lives, then bring me in. I'll support it myself.

Griffin: You kidding me?

Ryan: I'm not kidding you. I have tons of cash. I have resources. Just tell me what we're dealing with here.

Griffin: I don't fully know myself. Ok? That's why I'm here: To see how far David's actually taken things.

Ryan: "How far David is taking things"? The man has no limits. Tell me you know that. Look, Griffin, I've been through the entire office. There's nothing here to find.

[Phone chirps]

Griffin: Then we'll look somewhere else. Oh, damn it. I'm late.

Ryan: What?

Griffin: To meet Kendall -- dinner at ConFusion.

Ryan: When Hayward found Greenlee, she was barely hanging on. Ok? From what I understand, Hayward basically brought her back to life. Does Orpheus have anything to do with that? If you help Hayward, if you protect him, whatever happens is on you, too.

Cara: Hey. Everything ok, besides the fact that my brother needs to invest in a watch?

Kendall: Yeah. No, everything's good. We're good. I mean, you know Griff better than I do. I think he's still feeling his way through this. We both are.

Cara: You know, relationships are hard, especially new ones.

Kendall: Yeah. I've got lots and lots of baggage, and I don't exactly travel light.

Tad: Who does, baby?

Kendall: Good point. Uh, is it possible that I'm being stood up?

Cara: Did you try calling him?

Kendall: Yeah, I did a few times, and it went straight to voice mail. Is this something I should get used to?

Cara: . Ok, maybe a little.

Kendall: Great.

Cara: He doesn't mean to do it on purpose. It's the hospital. He can get distracted.

Kendall: Ok. If you see him, could you just tell him I was here?

Cara: He really does care about you.

Kendall: I care about him, too. Ok.

Cara: Bye.

J.R.: You were right. You're right. I have to pull it together for A.J. Some hand that kid's been dealt, huh: His mom dies; his dad gets cancer, his mom's twin sister becomes his new mom, but we can't be a family because she forgot to tell us that she likes girls. Huh. You can't make this stuff up. To top it all off, his dad's back on the sauce again. What kind of 7-year-old can deal with that? What kind of 7-year-old has to deal with that? Anyway -- it was real nice talking with you. I love you, Mom. Don't stay away so long next time, ok? Ok.

Erica: You've been awfully quiet, Dr. Hayward.

David: At your request.

Erica: Oh, stop it. That's enough. Stop pretending that you care. Stop pretending there's any connection between us.

David: But I do care, Erica.

Erica: Then if you care so much, tell them the truth. Tell them what really happened. Dr. Hayward found out that Jane wasn't me.

Jesse: How?

Erica: How could he not? He slept with her. Jane told me that he knew. She wanted me to be prepared. So tell us in your own words, Dr. Hayward, what tipped you off?

David: I don't know what you want me to say.

Erica: David blackmailed Jane. That's how he got his hands on the hospital. You threatened her, didn't you? You made her give you the hospital, or else you were gonna reveal who she really was. But the worst part is that he made everybody think that I didn't love you. He seduced her. He made her think that he loved her, but he also made everybody think that I don't love you. That's the worst part. My God, what must've been going through your head to think that I didn't love you anymore, to think that I would leave you to marry him? Please, please I tell me that no matter what else seems so unbelievable, please tell me that you -- you know that I love you. Say something.

Jack: You need help.

Erica: No.

Jack: Just someone to talk to, Erica. To help you sort all of this out.

Jesse: I think it's a good idea.

Erica: I just escaped from prison, and you want to lock me up again?

[Knock on door]

Krystal: J.R.?

J.R.: Where's A.J.?

Krystal: Oh, God, you're drunk.

J.R.: And you are perceptive --

Krystal: Perceptive. You didn't drive yourself here, did you?

J.R.: No. Your lovely daughter stole my keys from me.

Krystal: She's a smart girl. Now, just call a cab, get home, and sleep it off. Ok?

J.R.: No, I want to see my son.

Krystal: He's not staying here.

J.R.: He's not at the Yacht Club either.

Krystal: His mother took him to see a movie.

J.R.: Don't call her that.

Krystal: Excuse me?

J.R.: She is not his real mother.

Krystal: Like Tad isn't your real father? I saw you tonight at Dixie's tribute. You heard Tad. You heard how much he loves you. What do you think this is gonna do to him, watching you spiral out of control like this, J.R.?

J.R.: I don't really need a lecture from you.

Krystal: You need something.

J.R.: It was all you, wasn't it? Marissa's whole about-face from straight to lesbian?

Krystal: Yeah, J.R. Yeah, I orchestrated the whole thing. You didn't know I was that powerful, did you?

J.R.: Ooh, I'm glad you think this whole thing is so funny.

Krystal: You don't see me laughing, do you?

J.R.: You never wanted me with Marissa, did you? So I'm sure that Bianca is the perfect alternative.

Krystal: Bianca is perfect if she makes Marissa happy, yes.

J.R.: Like you? Come on, Krystal. You can't think it's fun living here in this house with your ex, right, and his brand-new family.

Krystal: All right. I think it's time for you to leave.

J.R.: You couldn't hold on to Tad, could you?! Could you? And that pisses you off.

Krystal: Get out right now!

J.R.: You're miserable, and you want me to be miserable, too. Don't you?

Tad: I mean, everybody in this town can tell you how lost I was before you came barreling through.

Cara: I did not "come barreling through," ok? I tiptoed lightly.

Tad: Tiptoed like a herd of buffalo. Mack trucks are more graceful than you are. But never in a million years would I have guessed that the woman who single-handedly turned Jake's life upside down would one day be my beloved wife.

Cara: Life's weird, isn't it?

Tad: The weirdest.

Cara: But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tad: Thank God almighty. I propose a toast.

Cara: Ok.

Tad: To weird, winding, roundabout journeys.

Cara: And to the road that lies ahead.

Ryan: Hey.

Kendall: Hi. Hi. Spike is -- he's spending the night at a friend's house.

Ryan: Yeah. No, I know. I just wanted to come by and give you some toys that he left at my place.

Kendall: Oh. Please tell me Monster Mash is in here, please, because I need it.

Ryan: It is. Why? Was he asking for it?

Kendall: Yeah. Like, every five seconds. Thank you.

Ryan: No problem. Hey, what are you doing here?

Kendall: I live here.

Ryan: Yeah, thank you. I mean because I just left Griffin, and he said he was meeting you at ConFusion.

Kendall: No, we were meeting at -- wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Oh, no. We were meeting at ConFusion.

Ryan: Why? Where were you?

Kendall: Krystal's. Have I always been this much of an idiot?

Ryan: Not always, you know.

Kendall: Thank you. Gee, that's nice. Wrong answer.

Ryan: I'm sure you got to work this out with him, but before you do, I'd like to talk to you about something.

Kendall: About what?

Ryan: The guy you're about to call.

Jack: No one is trying to lock you up.

Erica: Then what did you mean by "professional help"? That's what I thought.

Jack: No one is talking, Erica, about a padded cell. I just think you could benefit from some therapy.

Erica: Why is that?

Jack: Erica, the way you've been behaving for the past few weeks --

Erica: Has not been like me? It wasn't me! It was Jane! It was not me, and you should've known that! Don't touch me!

David: Excuse me, but, technically, this is still my fiancée.

Erica: I am no such thing!

David: Ok, I think we should get you out of here.

Erica: Don't touch me!

David: Try to remember this, all right? I understand what you've been through, even if they don't.

Erica: Oh, you shut up!

Jesse: Hey, take it easy.

Erica: Don't tell me to take it easy!

David: Do you know what day it is?

Erica: I don't even know what month it is! There were no windows! There were no clocks! I couldn't tell day from night!

David: This is bad, guys.

Erica: I am not crazy!

David: I think I can get her to go peacefully, all right?

Erica: I am not going anywhere with you!

David: Ohh!

Jack: Whoa, Erica!

Erica: Oh, my God!

Jack: Come on back here.

David: Look who it is -- my mentee.

Jesse: Yeah, this is Hubbard. We're gonna need a bus to ConFusion right away. You got this?

Griffin: I got it. How's your breathing? You short of breath?

David: She penetrated the pleural space.

Griffin: All right. Shh.

Jack: Erica --

Jesse: Listen, I really hate to do this, but, Erica Kane, you're under arrest. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

David: No, no.

Griffin: Dr. H, you know the drill. Stay calm. Stay calm.

Jesse: You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided --

David: She didn't mean to do it. She needs help, not jail.

Jesse: Do you understand? Do you understand this?

Erica: Yes.

Griffin: We don't have time for a bus. We got to get moving now!

Erica: Jack, what have I done? Why couldn't you have believed me?

Ryan: I didn't want to come by until I had something concrete.

Kendall: Would you just say it already? You're making me nervous.

Ryan: Griffin is involved in David's Orpheus project. I'm worried that he may be involved in whatever David's pulling on your mother.

Kendall: No, no. Nope. I'm sorry, but I know Griffin. He may have helped David out when he was in medical school, but he would never deliberately hurt my mother. No, not now. Not after everything that we've been going through.

Ryan: What if Hayward is just using Griffin like he's used everybody else?

Kendall: No, Griffin would never fall for that.

Ryan: That's what we thought about Greenlee.

Kendall: I'm sorry, Ryan, but I just -- no, ok? I know. I mean, Griffin and I -- we've had our issues, but ever since Ricky, he has been completely honest with me. If he knew what was going down between mom and David, he would tell me.

Ryan: He was standing right in this room, he looked us both in the face, and he lied. I asked him if he'd ever heard of the Orpheus Project, and he said no. But he had, Kendall. He's involved. He knows. He told me it was a research project, and that's all I could get from him.

Tad: I mean it. You're terrific. There aren't too many women I know who would support, let alone attend, their new husband's impromptu memorial for his late ex-wife.

Cara: Yes, thank you. But not many men could pull that off with such panache.

Tad: "Panache"? Where did you get that?

Cara: It was in this morning's crossword puzzle. But it's true!

Tad: You know what's amazing?

Cara: What?

Tad: That is a word that not enough people use to describe me.

Cara: Ha ha ha! You're also, I have to say, on crack if you think that I am the understanding one in this relationship.

Tad: Come on.

Cara: No, because you've got me beat in that department. After everything that I put you and your family through, here you are. You're sharing dessert with me.

Tad: Avec panache.

Cara: That's right.

J.R.: What are you doing?

Krystal: I'm calling a cab. I don't want A.J. to see you like this.

J.R.: Yeah? Here we go again. You're gonna work Marissa, take my son from me, just like you did with Babe?

Krystal: You keep it up, J.R. I just might.

J.R.: Hell would have to freeze over first!

Krystal: J.R., would you just look at yourself in the mirror? Come on. Is this what you really want your life to be?

J.R.: You must have to ask yourself that same question every day.

Krystal: Oh, my God.

J.R.: Enough with the damn cab!

Krystal: I'm calling Tad this time, ok? Maybe he'll talk some sense into you, or at least drag your butt out of here.

J.R.: No. Not until I see my son.

Krystal: What are you gonna do?! What are you gonna do, hit me?!

Tad: Let's get you home. Come on.

J.R.: No!

Tad: J.R. --

J.R.: I'm not leaving without my son. A.J.?!

Tad: J.R., look at me. Look my at me. You do not want A.J. to see you like this.

J.R.: I'm a good father.

Tad: I know you are.

J.R.: I may screw up at everything else I do, but I am a good father. [Sobs]

Tad: Come on, son, let's go. Let's go.

J.R.: Mom thinks so, too. She knows that I'm not like my dad.

Tad: Of course, you're not. Can you walk?

J.R.: I can try.

Tad: Ok.

Ryan: What do you know about Griffin's research?

Kendall: We were talking one day -- actually, I was doing most of the talking, he was avoiding. I was just trying to get him to open up.

Ryan: About?

Kendall: Life. Who he was before I met him.

Ryan: And?

Kendall: And he was a typical guy. He gave me the basics. And when I pressed him for more, all I got was that he had done some post-grad research.

Ryan: Did he say what kind of research?

Kendall: No. No. And when I asked him, he shut down on me. He got all weird, and he wouldn't look me in the eye and he got all fidgety. And then I brought up Zach, which clearly killed the conversation. I don't understand this. My God. I'm finally ready to actually move on, I think it might be possible to move on, I get slammed all over again.

Ryan: I'm sorry, Kendall. I know that you're upset.

Kendall: "Upset"? Griffin might be responsible for what is happening with my mother. I'm a little more than upset.

Ryan: You just got to try and keep it cool, ok? All right? Because you can't let on to Griffin that you know about this.

Kendall: I don't know what I'm gonna do. Why can't things ever be simple? I mean, when are things going to just be simple again?

Ryan: When were they ever simple?

Kendall: I don't know.

Ryan: You just got to try to hold on a little bit longer, ok? Just try a little bit longer, because you may be our only hope getting at the truth.

Jake: I was not paged by anybody. Why is that? What happened?

Griffin: Stab wound. It's the left abdomen.

Jake: Really? Who did it?

Griffin: Erica Kane.

Jake: Erica Kane?

Griffin: Yep.

Jake: Respirations?

Griffin: He's short of breath, and he has a rigid abdomen.

Jake: Ok, let's have a look here. Sorry about this, Dave. Oh, you've been working out. You're as hard as a rock -- lot of blood coming from someplace.

Griffin: I need a chest tube, stat.

Jake: All right. Gretchen, we're gonna need Radiology on the line. We need a C.T., and we need X-ray of the chest and abdomen, ok? Let me get this line going. We're gonna draw some blood.

David: No, no.

Jake: No, this is not a time to be picky, Hayward.

Griffin: I need some vitals. He's diaphoretic.

David: Internal bleeding.

Griffin: I know.

David: Get in there, fix it -- only you.

Griffin: David --

David: Only you. I can't die. Not now. Not now.

Ryan: I'm sorry, Kendall. I honestly wish things were different.

Kendall: They're not. They're not. Thank you for bringing by Spike's toys.

Ryan: Yeah, yeah, no problem. Kendall --

Kendall: I'm sorry, Ryan. Can you just go, please?

[Door closes]

Kendall: Why'd you have to die on me?

Tad: Ok.

J.R.: Ohh.

Tad: You're just gonna have to sleep it off down here tonight, and I'll check on you tomorrow. Here. Give me this. There you go.

J.R.: Ohh.

Tad: I'll get you back on track. I promise.

J.R.: Mom can help.

Tad: What?

J.R.: I saw Mom. She didn't want to talk to me, but she still loves me. I could tell.

Tad: She'll always love you, J.R. That's forever.

Jesse: So what's the word with Hayward?

Jack: Yeah, I never thought I'd ever say these words, but tell me Hayward will make it?

Jake: His lung is perforated, but we've dealt with that. He's got a lot of internal bleeding, though, so we're gonna have to operate. Not me. He won't let me go anywhere near him. It's gonna be Griffin.

Jack: But he is gonna pull through?

Jake: Depends on the amount of blood that's lost. Again, we'll know when we get inside. So how's Erica?

Jesse: She's in Oak Haven for evaluation.

Jack: I can't stand thought of her being in that place.

Jesse: She needs help, Jack. You said that.

Jack: Yes, I know what I said. I just hope I'm right.

Erica: I  demand to see the concierge, the administrator, the chief of staff -- the person who is in charge of this place. You're not gonna treat me like a psychopath?

Janet: Erica! You've come for a visit.

Erica: Janet!

Janet: We're gonna have so much fun!

Griffin: How you doing? Any pain?

David: I have to live. Do you understand?

Griffin: David, relax. I've got Kim scrubbing in. Dr. Gates is doing anesthesia.

David: If I don't make it --

Griffin: You'll make it.

David: If I don't, they'll die. All of them. All of them will die.
