Tad: Oh! What are you doing? Come bolting here, you don't even say hi?

A.J.: Hi!

Tad: Nice try. Kathy and Jenny are upstairs. That way. Go. Don't break anything.

A.J.: Bye!

J.R.: I'll see you later when I come to pick up A.J.

Tad: You just can't wait for that next drink, can you?

Scott: Hey, are those all your suitcases in the foyer?

Marissa: Mm-hmm. I packed most of my things.

Scott: So you gonna tell me? What did J.R. do to finally screw things up?

Marissa: It wasn't J.R. It was me.

Jesse: Hey. I went by the D.A.'s office today, and I noticed there was no nameplate on the door -- your door.

Liza: Jesse, it's no mystery. I was fired. Are you happy?

Jesse: Kind of. I just don't want to be the reason you're out of a job.

Maya: These shirts and these socks -- how could they be so little?

Angie: Believe me, they grow so fast. You see how big my Frankie is.

Maya: You look too young to be his mother.

Angie: You already had the job, darling. But I will take all the sugar, spice, and everything nice you want to throw at my way.

[Phone rings]

Angie: Someone really wants to talk to you. This is the third time they've called in the last half-hour.

Maya: It's nobody.

Angie: I think it's somebody. Are you in some sort of trouble, Maya?

Jake: Yes, it's Dr. Martin. I'm actually calling for the test results for my wife. Yeah. Thanks. Oh. Ok. Thank you.

Amanda: What'd she say? It's bad, isn't it?

Kendall: Well. Ha ha. So how's community service going?

Griffin: Only 192 hours to go.

Kendall: That's a lot of candy wrappers.

Griffin: Oh, yeah, and ketchup packets and cigarette butts and -- yeah, it's pretty gross.

Kendall: Yeah, nice.

Griffin: But I doubt you came here to see me in all my glory. You want to hear what David had to say about your mother.

Kendall: I do.

Griffin: He said nada. I called the man five times, and he hasn't returned one of my phone calls, considering all I've done for the illustrious Dr. Hayward.

Kendall: What, exactly, have you done for David?

[Dixie whimpers]

David: Dixie, Dixie, Dixie, always the fighter. That's what I love most about you. Life could've been so different for us, if only you could've loved me as hard as you fought me.

Kendall: Oh, thank you.

Griffin: I've defended David to everyone in this town. I've put my name on the line for him.

Kendall: He seems to think very highly of you.

Griffin: Yeah? To be the best, you have to learn from the best.

Kendall: Ok, but I'm not gonna let that man hurt my mom.

Griffin: Erica's a grown woman. And from what I've seen and heard, she's more than capable of taking care of herself.

Kendall: Ok, normally, I would agree with you. I would. My mother would chew David up and spit him out. But she hasn't been herself lately.

Griffin: You and everyone else in this town see David as this bogeyman, this great destroyer. What if I told you he was more than that? What if I told you he was something else?

Kendall: Ok. Why don't you go ahead? Go ahead. Tell me about this David Hayward that you know.

Maya: There's my good girl. My aunt -- she thinks I'm on call 24/7. She doesn't understand I have a real job. Hi, my pretty princess. Hi.

Angie: She really seems to be taken with you.

Maya: You think?

Angie: What I think is that you're going to be a good mother someday.

Liza: No more lies, Jesse. Yes, you are the reason why I am no longer district attorney of this fair town.

Jesse: You couldn't dig up any dirt on me to take back to the mayor?

Liza: Jesse, was there really any dirt to dig?

Jesse: I stand here truly baffled, Liza Colby. Why didn't you just make something up?

Liza: Because I'd like to think that I'm no longer that person. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I have certainly made my fair share of mistakes since coming back here to Pine Valley.

Jesse: More than your fair share.

Liza: I've paid for my crime. I lost a child, then I lost my child.

Jesse: Colby.

Liza: Honestly, Jesse, I hope you never have to experience the pain of losing a child. I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.

Jesse: And that's who I am to you, right?

Liza: Jesse, there's that look again. It's that same look that you had when I saw you at the park that day like you're carrying something, something that's really awful.

Jesse: I don't have any flowers. I should've brought -- I'm so sorry.

Liza: Jesse? Jesse, are you all right?

Jesse: I'm fine, Liza.

Liza: Ok, just because I'm not the district attorney anymore doesn't mean that I can't listen to a man's confession. Is there something that you really want to get off your chest?

Jake: Honey, um, so, yes, they did find some abnormal cells.

Amanda: Abnormal? That's the same as the first test.

Jake: Yeah. So what happens next is we do a biopsy.

Amanda: I could have cancer.

Jake: Don't say that. Let's not go -- let's not leap to that, ok?

Amanda: So stupid.

Jake: Please, just -- let's focus. Just breathe. Just breathe.

Amanda: So when's the biopsy?

Jake: We want to -- we want to get this over with, right, so I pulled some strings.

Amanda: Yeah?

Jake: It's gonna be today. All right?

Scott: Marissa, you keep blaming yourself, but how many chances have you given J.R., hmm? More than he deserved.

Marissa: I wasn't being 100% honest with J.R., because I wasn't being totally honest with myself. I came to a realization.

Scott: What a complete jerk he is?

Marissa: That I'm in love with somebody else.

Scott: Wow. I didn't see that one coming. Huh. Uh, who's the lucky guy?

Marissa: Bianca.

J.R.: I brought A.J. over here to spare him from watching his mother move out again. If it's too much trouble for you --

Tad: Not at all. He's welcome, now more so than ever, because I think the last thing he really needs to see is his father falling headfirst off the wagon.

J.R.: Jeez, Tad. So I've had a few, ok? Who's it gonna hurt?

Tad: Inevitably, the little boy that just ran up the stairs -- at least, he's first on the list. Why don't you get to a meeting?

J.R.: I don't need a meeting.

Tad: I can smell you from here. The hell you don't.

Jesse: So you're still hoping to find something on me to take back to City Hall, so they can hang me out to dry?

Liza: I guess, given our history, that is a fair assumption to make. And maybe it is just too much for you to realize that I just did not want to rat you out, Jesse. I did the right thing.

Jesse: Bully for you, Liza Colby.

Liza: I see you and I see Angie. Now you've got this brand-new baby, and I'll tell you what, I'm absolutely green with envy. But I'll tell you something else. It gives me hope that if I live my life right, someday I'm gonna have that as well.

Angie: Maya, could you take her for just a minute?

Maya: Yeah.

[Phone rings]

Maya: I'm sorry. If I don't answer, she's just gonna keep calling and calling.

Angie: Sure. It's ok.

Maya: Mookie. I can't talk to you right now, ok? I'm with a friend, a girlfriend. I'll call you when I'm done. I'm so sorry. She's gonna stop calling.

Angie: Who? Your Aunt Mookie? I'm sorry, but you lose your sight and you have a baby, you start hearing every little thing. Is Mookie your boyfriend?

Maya: He's really a great guy.

Angie: Who says he isn't?

Scott: Um, I definitely didn't see that one coming.

Marissa: Yeah. Me neither.

Scott: So I -- I mean, you are in love with Bianca? I know she had a thing for you, but --

Marissa: Yeah. The "thing" is mutual.

Scott: Are you -- you're sure about this?

Marissa: I am.

Scott: Wow. I -- huh. You look completely happy, so that's something that I couldn't have said to you before.

Marissa: Yeah. I don't know. Maybe that's why I never worked with J.R. before. I was trying to force something that wasn't really there.

Scott: I'm happy for -- but if my jaw hit the floor, J.R.'s head must've gone through the roof.

Marissa: Yeah. I think he took it harder than I even hoped.

J.R.: Well, what do you do if you found out the woman that you love, the woman you were ready to build your whole world around -- you find out that she loves another woman?

Tad: I don't know, J.R. But I would hope I wouldn't be willing to throw my life away over it.

J.R.: Come on, Tad. You already are.

Tad: What's that supposed to mean?

J.R.: You have a fake marriage. You're living with a woman who doesn't love you just to stay in the country.

Cara: Excuse me. I'm sorry. You know what? It's not that big of a house. I can hear every word.

J.R.: I'm sorry.

Cara: You don't need to apologize. I get it. This is a fake marriage. But what Tad feels for you? That's as real as it gets.

Tad: She's right.

J.R.: Oh, yeah. She doesn't know me. She doesn't know what I'm going through!

Tad: No, but I do.

J.R.: You're not my father. I know you like to pretend that you are.

Tad: Fine, J.R. Then what would Adam say? See, I don't care where you get the help, just as long as you get it.

J.R.: What would Adam say? He would call me pathetic. And then he would sit down and have a drink of his own.

Tad: What about your mother? What do you think Dixie would think of you right now?

J.R.: But she's not here, so she'll never know. So you leave her out of this. You watch A.J. for me.

Maya: I didn't tell Mookie about my job. He doesn't like me keeping things from him, though.

Angie: Hmm. Sounds a bit possessive.

Maya: I just owe him so much. So at least I should give him the truth, right?

Angie: It's worked for Jesse and me. What do you owe your boyfriend?

Maya: He moved here from New York City just to be with me. I'm all he's got.

Jesse: Hey, look who I found lurking in the lobby.

Frankie: Yo. And I didn't come empty-handed either.

Angie: It's your big brother. And what did he bring today?

Frankie: A giraffe.

Angie: You see, Lucy? All he wants to do is spoil his little sister.

Jesse: Like he's the only one.

Maya: I should go fix her her bottle.

Frankie: Yeah, and I should come with you, so you can teach me.

Frankie: So how's it going?

Maya: I think your mom likes me.

Frankie: Yeah, you were a bit nervous before.

Maya: I'm good with it now. After giving up my baby, being around another one is the best thing that could've happened to me.

Marissa: He's been drinking because of me and Bianca. He must be hurting pretty bad.

J.R.: What do you care?

Marissa: How much have you had?

J.R.: No, no, you don't get to ask me those questions anymore. I noticed your bags were packed. Thank you. Saves me the trouble from throwing you out.

Marissa: J.R. --

J.R.: You're leaving, so leave. And don't ever come back.

Cara: Hey. Sorry about J.R.

Tad: I am, too. I don't think I ever told you when he was a little boy, we were walking in the park, he found this injured bird. So we took it to the vet, and the guy was like no way. We should "take care of it," and J.R. wouldn't hear of it. So we took it home, put it in an old hamster's cage on top of a heating pad and took care of it for three or four weeks. It was a sparrow or a finch -- I can't remember which. And anyway, he nursed this thing, fed it with a tweezer. And one day we took it back to the park, and I'm sitting there praying the entire time, feeling so sorry for J.R., thinking this thing is never gonna get off the ground.

Cara: What happened?

Tad: This guy was walking his dog off the leash. It ran over and ate it.

Cara: Oh, my God. That's --

Tad: No. Come on, it's a joke.

Cara: That's not -- no!

Tad: No, I was just -- no, the bird was fine. He took off for the trees like it never missed a beat. Could've knocked me over with a feather.

Cara: You're rolling. I'm bringing it around. Love it.

Tad: My point is he used to be such an amazing little guy. He was so sensitive, in spite of his father. I guess he was just lucky he got his mother's heart.

Cara: It sounds to me like he's got your heart.

Tad: No, it was all Dixie. She had such a way with him. He always believed that things would work out they way they were supposed to, just like that little bird.

Cara: And now?

Tad: Now he's much more like Adam. He's convinced everybody's out to get him.

Cara: Like the little bird?

Tad: Yeah, just like the little bird. And I'm obviously still the same guy, because I'm sitting on that park bench praying for J.R., wondering whether or not he's ever gonna make it off the ground again.

Cara: I think he's lucky that he's got you. You love your family with a vengeance.

Tad: I'm lucky because they love me back the same way.

[Phone rings]

Cara: Do you want to get that?

Tad: I'm just afraid it's gonna be bad luck.

Cara: Ha ha ha!

Tad: Hey, Jake. What's up?

Jake: Hey. Can you meet me at the hospital? Because I need you.

Tad: Yeah. Sure. I'm on my way. Come on, honey, we got to go.

Cara: Ok.

Griffin: Medical science has very strict boundaries. David taught me to question, to test limits, to not accept failure as an option -- like that night in the busted-up ambulance. Any other surgeon would've thrown their hands up in the air and given you up for dead.

Kendall: Not you.

Griffin: And not David Hayward.

Kendall: I know. I know it's true. David saved my life, and my son's and my best friend's.

Griffin: But that isn't enough?

Kendall: What he did to Greenlee, he did the same thing to Krystal and to Maria, and now he's doing it to my mom.

Griffin: Who's Maria?

Kendall: Maria Santos. Everybody thought that she had died. They thought she was dead, but she wasn't. David had her locked up like she was some specimen. And then when he let her go, she had no memory at all. She couldn't remember her friends, her whole life, her family, her children.

Griffin: Tell me more about Maria. When she was missing, how did everybody think that she died?

Kendall: It was an accident.

Griffin: Ok, what kind of accident? Like a car accident? Was David at the scene?

Kendall: It was a plane crash, like Zach.

[Key turns in lock then David examines Dixie who's pretending to be unconscious]

Griffin: I'm sorry. I didn't know.

Kendall: I kind of feel like you're interrogating me a little bit.

Griffin: Wait a minute. You brought up David, and then I asked you about Maria.

Kendall: It's not just that Maria almost died in the same way as Zach. Maria and Zach were involved.

Griffin: Oh. So it's a little bit of a tough subject for you.

Kendall: Yeah.

Griffin: I'm sorry that I brought it up.

Kendall: No, it's ok. This is all me. It's not your fault.

Griffin: Maybe we should call it a day.

Kendall: No. No, actually. You have got more garbage to collect there, buddy, so you better get on that.

Griffin: I do. I do. But there's someplace I need to be. So why don't we meet up later at Krystal's or ConFusion and get an early dinner?

Kendall: Sure.

Griffin: Ok.

Kendall: You're worried, because we brought up Zach, but I'm fine. It's not like I need somebody to remind me of Zach.

Griffin: Of course, you don't.

Kendall: Why don't you go do your thing, and I will see you later. Ok?

Griffin: Ok.

Brot: Hello, Chief.

Angie: Hey, Brot.

Brot: Hey, Angie. How's little Lucy doing?

Angie: Oh, why don't you come on in and see for yourself?

Jesse: Actually, he's still on the clock. We're gonna be right out in the hall. Not gonna take long. Be right back, ok?

Brot: What's up?

Jesse: Our babysitter, Maya -- she just had a baby.

Brot: Ok. So?

Jesse: So she just gave a baby up. The first time I saw her take the baby, all kinds of alarms went off in my head.

Brot: Wait a minute. You think Lucy could be hers?

Jesse: It's crazy, right?

Brot: Yeah, it's crazy because Maya is Hispanic -- White, Hispanic -- and Lucy is Black.

Jesse: I know. I'm jumping at shadows here.

Brot: All right, listen. Calm down. Everything's fine. No one is gonna know that Lucy is not your baby.

Jesse: Let's get back inside. Angela's gonna think I'm working too hard.

Brot: Ah. Wonder where she gets that idea from.

[Knock on door]

Mookie: Hey. I'm here for Maya. She's my girlfriend.

Jesse: Sure. Come on in. Maya, you got a visitor.

Frankie: I'll take her. Hey.

Maya: How did you find out I was here?

Mookie: I followed you. What are you doing here, playing with some baby?

Maya: It's a job.

Mookie: You got a job, same place I do, with the Chandlers. How you gonna do both?

Maya: Haven't figured that out yet.

Mookie: So why didn't you tell me?

Maya: I was just figuring out if it was gonna work out or not.

Mookie: So is it working out?

Maya: Not if you keep calling and popping in like it's visiting hour.

Mookie: Heh heh heh! All right. Ok. I'll go.

Maya: I'll call you later.

Mookie: You better.

Frankie: Oh, fiddlesticks. Is that what I think it is?

Brot: Is that you?

Frankie: Ooh, child. Ooh! Do I -- can you --

Angie: No. I think it's time for a lesson right now.

Frankie: Oh. Looks like I don't have a choice, huh? Come on.

Brot: Go ahead, Doc.

Jesse: So you saw that, right? The boyfriend's black.

Brot: Yeah, I saw that, Chief.

Jesse: So you --

Brot: No, I don't think. And you need to stop worrying so much. Get this out of your head. Maya is not Lucy's mother. Stop worrying already.

Marissa: I'm not going anywhere without seeing A.J.

J.R.: I'm sorry. I already dropped him over at Tad's. I didn't want him to watch his mommy move out again.

Marissa: Great. I will see him there.

J.R.: Oh, I didn't tell A.J. that you like girls now. Figured I'd save that fun conversation for you. What? No shot from you, hmm? No kick me when I'm down?

Scott: I think you're doing a pretty good job of that all by yourself.

J.R.: Just cut all the crap where you pretend like you actually give a damn about me and do what you do best.

Scott: And what's that?

J.R.: Laugh at me.

Tad: Hey, buddy.

Jake: Hi. Thank you for coming. I appreciate it.

Tad: Are you kidding? How's Amanda?

Jake: They're about to do the biopsy, so I just --

Tad: So it's serious? We're talking about a cancer scare here?

Jake: Yes. Let's make it a scare.

Tad: Whatever it is, whatever happens, we're gonna get through it, ok?

Jake: I'm just not good at this part. When it's somebody that's close to me, and I'm just --

Tad: You know what the cure for that is, is doing something nice for somebody else. You want to do something nice for Amanda?

Jake: Sure. I'll do whatever.

Tad: All right. It involves something you're not very good at.

Jake: Tell me what it is. I'll do it. What is it?

Tad: Sit still.

Jake: I can't do that.

Tad: No, sit still with her. Go sit still with her. Because whatever she's feeling, it's not gonna be half as bad if she's got her husband holding her hand. Because I never understood it, because for some reason she thinks you hung the moon.

Jake: That I hung the moon?

Tad: Which is actually not true either, because I think you're pretty nifty, too. This is a very nice tie.

Jake: You're so good at this, the whole family thing. I mean it.

Tad: Yeah, it's strange, because I've been getting a lot of that lately.

Dixie: Ah. My recipe for French toast?

Tad: Listen. You're gonna be ok? I'm gonna go find a doughnut. Get in there with your wife.

Jake: Gluten-free. You heard me.

Dr. Kantor: Biopsy's done.

Jake: Dr. Kantor. Oh, great. Thank you.

Dr. Kantor: I put a rush on the results. Ok.

Jake: Thank you. Appreciate that. Couldn't ask for more. Hey.

Amanda: I'm scared, Jake.

Jake: I'm right here, ok?

J.R.: I got crazy jealous every time I saw you with Marissa.

Scott: And what did I tell you, J.R.? Marissa and I, nothing but friends. But you, you wanted to make it something more, so you'd have something to be pissed off about.

J.R.: And all along Marissa's heart was set on Bianca. Maybe Marissa convinced herself she was in love with Bianca just to stick it to me.

Scott: See, that's just like you, J.R. You take someone else's pursuit of happiness as a personal attack.

J.R.: Except there's a new twist -- and you're gonna love this one -- Marissa is a lesbian now, and I had no idea. Or maybe I was right all along, and you really did have feelings for her, and you're just as busted up about her as I am.

Scott: You know what? I am so happy for Marissa, that she came out. In fact, the news made my day.

J.R.: Yeah? Why is that?

Scott: Because if Marissa's gonna be with women, that means she won't be with you ever again.

Kendall: Mom, it's me. Can you please, please call me? I don't like the way we ended things. You and David -- when I say it out loud, it sounds so ridiculous, I can't even believe that it's true. So can you just call me and tell me this is one bad dream, ok? I love you.

David: You are awake. I can pinch you if you'd like.

Kendall: Get the hell away from me.

David: Is that any way to speak to your future stepfather?

Kendall: How do you do it, David? How do you make every woman think that she can't live without you?

David: Some say it's my smile, but I think it's my winning personality. Tell me, what are your thoughts on a destination wedding? St. Barts is beautiful this time of year.

Kendall: That's funny you should say that. St. Barts, yeah -- that happens to be the name of the place where my mother was kidnapped from, and they never found who did it. Maybe it was you.

Brot: [Whispering] Chief? Chief?

Jesse: [Whispering] What?

Brot: Watching you make yourself crazy like this, it's making me crazy.

Jesse: I know it's a long shot, but I need to be 100% sure. I need proof that Maya is not Lucy's mother.

Brot: How you gonna do that?

Jesse: Really? DNA -- doink -- and I'll need you to help me make that happen.

Cara: I think I owe you a power shake.

Tad: You do. Make it a double. Forget I said that.

Cara: Right.

[Knock on door]

Tad: Liza?

Liza: Hi. So I work for Caleb Cortlandt -- for now -- and this came for you.

Tad: You weren't out of work for long. Who would send me something at Cortlandt's?

Liza: Really hard to say, who especially when it says "from --"

Tad: I hope they're paying extra for the sarcasm, because you'll make a fortune. Oh. It's a blast from the past. "Seabone Hunkle" -- it's Dixie's father.

[Door opens]

Jake: You ready for a visitor?

Amanda: Jake, I don't think -- hi, honey! Hi. Mommy missed you so much.

J.R.: I screwed up again, Mom. Your boy screwed up again.

Cara: I made this with extra chocolate. Ok? What you got there?

Tad: Ohh.

Cara: "This diary belongs to Dixie Cooney." Hmm. Oh, boy.

Tad: Yeah.

Dixie: Ah.

David: Anytime I want Erica to go somewhere with me, all I have to do is ask. I don't have to use force.

Kendall: Is that a yes or a no?

David: You know something? I'm really tired of all this animosity.

Kendall: I'm sorry. Is there something else you'd prefer?

David: Yeah. How about some gratitude? Your heart is beating in your chest right now only because I made it so. You owe me your son's life, as well, not to mention Greenlee's. And how did you thank me for that? By shooting me in the back, after which I magnanimously talked Griffin Castillo through a very difficult procedure to give you back your life once again in the ambulance.

Kendall: Which you traded in for a pardon from prison, so I don't owe you anything.

David: No, you see, I think you do. I know your heart, Kendall. I've held it in my hands. You are living on borrowed time right now, and it's because I lent it to you.

Kendall: Is that a threat, David?

David: I'll tell you what. Next time your heart stops beating, you're gonna have to find somebody else to kick-start it for you. I am done giving you back your life so you can make mine a living hell.

Griffin: Hi. Yes. My name is Dr. Griffin Castillo. You don't know me. I'm calling from Pine Valley Hospital. It's regarding David Hayward.

Maria: What has that son of a bitch done now?
