J.R.: Close the door, lock it. You didn't see anything. Understand?

[Knock on door]

Tad: J.R., it's Tad.

David: The second skin sample I took is showing signs of accepting the treatment. And the ophthalmologist report came in. Retinal scarring is limited, which means we move on to the second stage of treatment. He's given me permission to use an immunosuppressant to help prevent infection.

Angie: So it's -- it's working?

David: It's still the early stages. But for now, I am very encouraged. What's wrong?

Angie: It's going better than I even dared to hope, and I owe it all to you.

Jane: The last thing I need is to be protected from David.

Greenlee: I used to think that, too.

Jane: Was this your idea?

Bianca: We're all concerned.

Opal: Yeah, every last one of us.

Greenlee: I know better than anyone how David can make you do things you never thought you'd do.

Jane: I know what you're doing. You have never liked me, so now you're trying to use my relationship with David to turn my whole family against me -- make them even think I'm not even me, Erica Kane.

Jack: You're not.

Ben: How's the book coming? That bad?

Erica: I never saw it before.

Ben: Saw what?

Erica: Me. The real me. I just always believed what I wanted to believe -- choices, choices I've made, my strengths, my weaknesses. But now that I'm here writing the story of my life, I want to tell the truth.

Ben: I don't understand. You've written other books about your life.

Erica: But I always made people believe what I wanted them to believe. I was lying, even to myself. Oh, my poor mother. I always made it seem like we had this really wonderful, loving relationship, that we were close.

Ben: You weren't?

Erica: She was always there with a hug, advice, kindness, but I never appreciated it.

Erica's voice: Share your hopelessly prejudiced point of view.

Mona: Did it ever occur to you that I'm trying to spare you some future hurt?

Erica: Mother, I am perfectly capable of leading my own life.

Mona: Erica, you have been rushing from one disaster to another!

Erica: My mother was right, of course, but I ignored her. The more she loved me the more I resisted. I wanted her to hurt as much as I did, because the person who wasn't there, who was never there, was my father -- and still I adored him.

Mona's voice: Erica, you felt rejected since the day your father left us.

Erica: He walked out on you, not on me.

Mona: I didn't see him try to take you with him.

Erica: Because you wouldn't let him. I never blamed him. I never blamed my father for leaving us. I blamed my mother, the person who loved me more than anyone else in the world. How could I do that? How could I be so cruel?

Jane: Not Erica? What are you saying?

Jack: Since your kidnapping, you have spent more time with your fans or doing autographs or taking meetings than you have your own family.

Jane: I'm a celebrity, but there's certainly plenty of me to go around.

Jack: And when you are around, it's not for long. You're always running off somewhere to a meeting or an interview or to the hospital for Hayward.

Jane: He's my partner.

Jack: Come on. Erica, you're smarter than this. You are more savvy about Hayward than this. Before your kidnapping, you wouldn't have gotten involved with him in any way, let alone in a partnership!

Jane: Oh, look, I'm not gonna listen to any more of this.

Jack: Yes, you are, because this is not just about Hayward. I caught you with a drink in your hand, Erica. You almost took a drink.

Jane: Almost! Almost, Jack! I didn't do it! I told you about that! I explained that. Ok. I mean, of course, I'm a changed woman since the kidnapping. No, I'm not the same woman.

Opal: But, Erica, please. Please. Your daughters -- they miss you. They need you. Jackson misses you. I sure as Hades miss my bestest gal pal ever. Please talk to us, tell us what is happening so we can help you.

Jane: I am all talked out.

Greenlee: But you have plenty to say to David.

Jane: Oh, not this again. At least he doesn't judge me.

Greenlee: He's too busy using you.

Jane: You gonna start this with me? Really?

Greenlee: I know what it feels like. I know when it's too late, when you've hurt the people that you love and your life is nearly over and ruined.

Jane: Lucky for me, I'm not you.

Bianca: But who are you?

Jane: Oh, not you, too? What have I ever done to you that's so terrible?

Bianca: All my life you have talked to me about the Kane women -- how strong we are, how we stick up for one another, how it makes us stronger, how we can count on you. And since you've been back, we haven't been able to count on you at all.

Jane: Is this about Ricky? Because I'm sorry about all of that. I really am. But you're fine now.

Kendall: No, she's not, Mom, and neither am I. We're not going to be until we get our mother back.

Jane: You are big girls! You are all grown up! So just -- please, just stop depending on Mommy to always make it better.

[Knock on door]

Tad: J.R., I'm still here.

J.R.: Just hold on! Make this disappear in there, in the drawer. All right? Hey. Hey. Sorry about that.

Tad: What's -- what's going on?

J.R.: A new maid, teaching her the ropes. You know the damage that A.J. and his buddies can do. It's a mess in there.

Mookie: What the hell was that all about?

David: Just blink a few times. Dr. Hubbard thanking me: I never thought I'd hear that.

Angie: I never thought I'd say it. But so far, the treatment seems to be working, and I am grateful.

David: Just doing my job.

Angie: "Do no harm" still means something to you.

David: You're not getting soft on me, are you, Doctor?

Angie: Just observing. You've ruined a lot of lives, David --

David: That's more like it.

Angie: But you've saved just as many.

David: Don't tell me you think I have a heart?

Angie: I wouldn't quite say I'm there, especially after all the hell that you've put me and my family and friends through.

David: Oh, here we go.

Angie: But I had no hope, and you've given that to me. Just like Greenlee -- not only did you give her hope, but you got her walking, gave her her life back.

David: Greenlee's is a life that couldn't be cut short.

Angie: You still care for her.

David: You seem to have a lot of confidence in me.

Angie: Because I know that you don't stop until you get the results you want.

David: I also break the rules to get the results I want. You hate that about me.

Angie: And your arrogance. Not to mention you're ruthless, condescending --

David: Yep.

Angie: Cruel. But maybe I'm beginning to understand that for all the hell you bring down, you're a healer at heart, and you've saved more lives than you've destroyed.

David: It'll never be enough. The people I lost are the ones who matter the most.

Tad: How you doing?

J.R.: I'm good.

Tad: Did you make it to that meeting?

J.R.: I've got more important things to do than sit around with a bunch of dry alcoholics trying to stay that way.

Tad: I'm sorry to hear that. I drove by Scott. He was working on the gatehouse.

J.R.: Still alive?

Tad: Yeah. So I assume you've decided not to kill him.

J.R.: Look, Tad, I know what you're doing, but you don't need to check up on me every time that I'm having a bad day.

Tad: The hell I don't.

Mookie: From what I saw, you and your boss looked pretty tight.

Maya: You were spying on us?

Mookie: Now you're hiding his booze for him. Hmm.

Maya: I work for him. That's all.

Mookie: Don't lie to me.

Maya: I'm not. And let me go. Someone could walk in here right now.

Mookie: I took this wasted-time job to be closer to you, and what do I find? That poser hitting on my woman, hmm?

Maya: He's not. Ok?

[Phone rings]

Mookie: Hey, boss. I'm here, heading your way right now. See you in a few. I'm watching you.

Jesse: Oh, listen, I got to go. Just get back to me as soon as you can. All right? Oh, my God. Really? Ok. All right.

[Knock on door]

Jesse: What's a baby-sitting agency without babysitters? What do you want, man?

Brot: Oh. I want to know how you're doing, because the guys at the station are worried about you.

Jesse: Ah. What, they worried I can't handle a little baby by myself, huh? Hey.

Brot: You know, Chief, you actually got something on your shirt there.

Jesse: Thank you for your keen powers of observation. All right, sweetie. Hey, look who it is. It's your favorite Uncle Hawkeye!

Brot: Oh, hey. Where's Angie?

Jesse: Angela -- she's with Hayward. All right, baby. All right. All right. All right. I hate that she's even putting a fraction of an ounce of faith in that man.

Angie: I know how hard it is to lose someone close to you.

David: Look, why don't we just talk about your next course of treatment.

Angie: I came that close to losing Lucy. And if I had, I can't imagine how I would've survived that -- like what you went through.

David: I was Leora's chance, and I failed her.

Angie: But it wasn't your fault.

David: And Leora wasn't the only one.

Angie: David, you know you've had so many losses -- two daughters, a brother, your father's suicide when you were just a boy, and to see him do it? I -- that's why you need to play God, isn't it? There is nothing that you could do to save your father. You had no power or control when it mattered most -- the same with Leora, Leo. I'm right, aren't I?

[Phone rings]

David: What is it? You're kidding me. All right. Yes, I'll be right there.

Angie: An emergency?

David: Yes. I have to leave. I'll have a nurse come in and make sure you're not having an adverse reaction to the meds.

Angie: Yeah, but, David?

Greenlee: Who were you calling?

Jane: I have to be someplace.

Greenlee: We're not done.

Jane: As if you could control Erica Kane?

Opal: How could you hurt your girls like that?

Jane: They're still breathing.

Opal: What in tarnation is wrong with you?

Jane: Maybe my near-death experience has taught me that I need to be true to myself.

Opal: You're not being true to the gal pal I know.

Jane: Would just stop with all the "tarnation" and the hokum-yokum? If you don't like something that I'm doing, would you just say it to me in English?

Jack: Erica?

Kendall: You're sick, aren't you? That's what this whole thing is about. So you're trying to push us away, and you're trying to insult us so that we'll give you your space when, really, that is the last thing that you need. It's ok, Mom. We're here for you. You can tell us what's wrong.

Jane: Ha ha ha ha!

J.R.: I don't need you checking up on me. You got your own family to be worrying about. You and Cara, you -- you're getting pretty serious lately, haven't you?

Tad: Nice try. That was in the box I gave you, your old stuff. I remember when Dixie made it.

J.R.: I promised A.J. we'd play later.

Tad: Yeah? Why don't we go ahead and set it up.

J.R.: Yeah. Sure -- if you tell me what's going on with you and Cara.

Tad: Ok. Cara and I, we like each other, care about one another. Which is fine, but you can't make somebody love you. And you can't force yourself to love somebody. Either it happens or it doesn't. Sometimes I think your mother was it for me.

J.R.: I'm sorry.

Tad: Don't be. Dixie and I had more than our fair share of problems, but when it was good --

J.R.: I'd like to make it easier for you, but I'm the last person who should be handing out love advice right now.

Tad: Come on. You and Marissa work it out, you'll restore my faith. That's good enough for me.

Brot: It's gonna be all right even if Angie does get her sight back. She didn't see the baby who -- who didn't make it.

Jesse: She sensed something was wrong that night that Ellie was born. I took so long to put Lucy in her arms, man. What if it all just comes back?

[Lucy cries]

Jesse: She likes it.

Brot: Maybe I just screwed up. Maybe I shouldn't have brought Lucy to the house that night.

Jesse: Shut up, man. Listen to you -- listen to me, listen to both of us. Are you kidding? I love this kid like she was my own. As far as I'm concerned, she is.

Maya: Frankie?

Frankie: Hey. What are you doing here?

Maya: I need a job, a new job. I was hoping that that baby-sitting gig for your parents is still open.

Frankie: Oh, it's your lucky day. The babysitter just quit on them. You sure you're ready for this?

Maya: I turned it down before because it had been so soon since I'd given up my baby. But I can do it. I'm ready. I can start today.

Frankie: Hmm. Working for the Chandlers not exactly the good time you expected?

Maya: No, no, they're great. It's my boyfriend. He got work helping Scott Chandler rebuild the gatehouse.

Frankie: This boyfriend -- the baby's father?

Erica: When my father promised to give me a party for my 14th birthday -- an orchestra and movie stars and fireworks -- I was so excited. I thought it was finally gonna happen. My father was going to tell me how much he loved me. But what happened that night --

Ben: That's the night you were raped? You were only 14? Your father left you alone with a rapist?

Erica: No, he didn't leave me alone. He just didn't show up.

Eric: I can't do lunch, not today, and not tomorrow either.

Ben: Did you know the man?

Erica: He was a famous movie star. And at first, I was very flattered. I was so excited.

Richard: How do you do? I'm Richard Fields.

Erica: But then we had some champagne. He called it "liquid moonbeams." And he wanted to dance. I didn't want to. I just wanted to be home. I wanted to be safe, but -- he wouldn't let me go. Finally, I pulled away and I ran. But he locked the door. I fought. I fought so hard. I didn't know I was pregnant until my mother saw that I had gained some weight. She took me away to have the baby, and I never saw her until -- until she was all grown up -- Kendall.

Jane: Ha ha ha!

Kendall: What is wrong with you?

Jane: Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong with me. I think that everything's wrong with all of you. You all just want me to be exactly the way you want me to be. And if I deviate just one little bit, you all start circling the wagons. You start staging interventions.

Jack: You're damn right we do, because there is something so obviously wrong, Erica, and we are worried!

Bianca: If it's David, we want to help you.

Jane: David? Partnering with David is one of the smartest things I've ever done.

Opal: On what cotton-picking planet -- and I mean "cotton-picking."

Jane: I wouldn't expect you to understand my relationship with David, either professionally or personally.

Jack: What do you mean, personally?

Jane: Why do you keep grilling me? I am not on the stand. This is not a court. Although, all of you make me feel like I'm guilty of something, and all I'm really guilty of is just trying to live my own life!

Jack: Just answer the question. What, exactly, is your relationship with David Hayward?

[Knock on door]

David: Hey.

Jane: I'm in love with him.

Frankie: I got your message. You ready?

Angie: Please.

Frankie: What happened to Hayward? He left you here alone?

Angie: No. I just sent Chantal to pick up my prescription, so that we could leave as soon as possible.

Frankie: Yeah, because Dad's home alone with Lucy, and I know you keep picturing him going crazy.

Angie: I'm sure that your dad and Lucy are just fine. But the sooner we get back home the better.

Frankie: Our babysitter problem? It might be solved by the time we get there.

Angie: Oh, really?

Jesse: I appreciate you doing this. You sure, right? This doesn't really fall under your job description.

Brot: I'm cool, as long as you don't make me change diapers. All right?

Jesse: Hey --

Brot: Peace.

Jesse: You don't mind changing diapers, do you?

Brot: Ha ha ha!

Jesse: This is easy.

[Phone rings]

Jesse: Oh, my God. Where's the phone? Please, please, please, where the hell are you?

[Lucy cries]

Jesse: Oh, I can't believe it. Is this a joke? You're messing with me, right?

[Knock on door]

Jesse: I'm coming!

Maya: Hi. Frankie said he called you? I'm here for --

Jesse: You are my new BFF.

David: Looks like I'm the last one to the party.

Jane: Thank God you're here. I'm so glad you're here, because they ambushed me with this inquisition. I know you told me that I should just say that we got lost in the moment, but I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. They wouldn't stop, and it just came out, and I'm glad it did, because it's true. I love you.

Bianca: There's no way that you love David.

Jane: Please stop telling me how I feel.

Bianca: Uncle Jack is the only man who's ever made you completely happy.

Jane: I'm sorry. You did make me very happy for a very long time, but people change. You've all been telling me that I've changed, and I have, and the only one who understands that is David.

Kendall: He's using you.

Jane: You didn't go running straight to Daddy. I'll give you credit for that. Greenlee caught us in David's room -- I don't exactly mean "caught us," no. We just were not completely tucked in and buttoned up, were we?

Kendall: Oh, my God!

Opal: Sweet cheese and crackers.

Jack: You and Hayward?

A.J.: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!

Tad: That's it. Ow! It's official -- he kicked our butts. He just literally hit me. You want to play again, huh? Just for that, you owe me another shot.

A.J.: My robot show is on. Can I go watch it?

J.R.: Yeah. Sure.

Tad: Yeah, go on. Go on. You're well on your way to becoming a droid, kid. Someday I'll be gone, and then you'll miss me. Go on. Oh, you want to play for second place?

J.R.: Yeah. Sure.

Tad: I got to hand it to your mother. She put a hell of a lot of work into this thing.

J.R.: Yeah, it's a hell of a game, though, right?

Tad: What, life?

J.R.: You draw a card and you win a wife. You win a house. You win a dog -- yeah, you got to have the dog, right? Just pick a card and win. If only life were that easy.

Tad: At least there's no "do not pass go, go straight to jail" card.

J.R.: I've done that more than once. Yeah, you know that I -- the house, right? I won the house. The wife? Yeah, I won her: Babe, the rock. And then I tried to get the house and the wife, but it just didn't work out that way, did it?

Tad: No, I guess not. Babe is gone. But I know how much you love Marissa. J.R., you're already sitting on top of your jackpot. You keep at it, you'll make it work.

J.R.: Yeah, the only problem is, is that I'm not in charge, the cards are. And in this game, my particular game, you try to win, but you lose. You lose, and you lose, and you lose. And you try, and you try, and you just keep on losing, right? And you take the car and you hold on with both hands on the wheel, and you just end up in the Pigeon Hollow swamp anyway. So --

Tad: So you dig yourself out.

J.R.: Yeah, I used to do that, but I'm done fighting. Yeah, I'm done fighting. See, I crash and burn! Story of my life!

Erica: All the men I married -- it's so obvious now -- I was looking for a father figure. Someone who would always be there for me and love me and make me feel safe.

Ben: You've never found that man?

Erica: Jack. Jack's taught me more about love and patience than any man I've ever known. And I regret every bit of pain that I have caused him. And all I want to do is just -- I want to put my arms around him and tell him that. But what Jane's done -- Jack is gonna be decimated. And I can't believe that I'm saying this, but there is nothing I can do about it.

Jack: You and Hayward, you're sleeping together?

Jane: Yes, yes, we are.

Opal: What the hell did he give you, libidizone?

Jane: David didn't give me anything except understanding.

Jack: I got to get out of here.

Bianca: Uncle Jack, you know she doesn't mean it.

Jane: Yes, I do mean it. I love David.

Jack: You're not in love. What you are is out of control. You need help, Erica. You need a therapist.

Opal: Or an exorcist.

Jane: I am sorry.

Opal: You won't be hearing "gal pal" from me anymore, ok, because my gal pal is gone.

Greenlee: You son of a bitch.

David: I'm flattered.

Greenlee: What?

David: Yeah. After all the time you've been spending trying to get Erica away from me, I guess I was right. You're just jealous.

Greenlee: I used to think that there was some good in you. I was wrong.

Jane: Oh, thank God she's gone. And thank you so much for coming to my rescue, because I just don't know what I would've done if you hadn't. I mean, all these people who say they love me, just behaving so hatefully.

Kendall: All right, you stop it, Mother! You stop it right now!

Frankie: And here she is. Looks like this place is in one piece. I guess Maya made it here in time.

Angie: Oh, Maya. Yes, Frankie told me that you'd reconsidered. Thank you so much for helping us out.

Maya: Hmm. Of course.

Jesse: Hey, you. Hey. Just in time for the big introduction.

Angie: Oh, Lucy! Take this, Frankie. Hello! Hello, sweetheart! Hello, sweetheart!

Jesse: Your ready?

Angie: It's Mommy! It's Mommy!

Jesse: Hey, Lucy Hubbard, this is Maya. This is Maya. Maya, this is Lucy. Ok? It's ok. Ok? There. See? It works. Yeah.

Tad: How many have you had?

J.R.: One -- ish. I'm gonna have another one. Ahem. By the way, the woman that I love, the mother of my child, is a lesbian.

Kendall: He's blackmailing you, isn't he? He's threatening to turn me in for shooting him if you don't do what he wants. I'll go to the police right now. I will turn myself in. I will get you away from him, and you'll be free of him.

Jane: That's not necessary.

Kendall: Mom, I won't let you do this. I won't let you sacrifice your life and your happiness with Jackson for me.

Jane: I know you like to think that everything is always about you, but this time it's about me.

Bianca: What did you do to her?

Jane: David did nothing to me except just be himself. When I laid eyes on the man -- well, the heart wants what the heart wants. I think I wrote that in one of my books.

David: Then it must be true.

Bianca: You are just using her to get what you want.

David: You know something? You're right. There is something I want from Erica. Would you do me the honor of marrying me?

Ben: Jane thinks she knows everything about you, but she doesn't know this.

Erica: How could she? I'm just beginning to understand this myself for the first time. And it might be too late, because at this very moment, Jane could be destroying my life!

[Thumping]

Erica: What's that?

Ben: Nothing.

[Thumping]

Erica: Is there something on the other side? Is someone there?

Ben: No one's there. It's under control.

Erica: But I heard. I heard --

[Thumping]

Erica: Ben?
