Tad: You're never too old for a puppy. Oh, come on. If I thought bringing over all that old stuff was gonna bum you out so much, I would've left it in the man cave.
J.R.: I wonder sometimes what happened to that innocent little kid who used to drag him around.
Tad: Now he's dragging around a cell phone and a briefcase.
J.R.: I just think sometimes I may have let that little kid down.
Jake: Hey.
Amanda: Hey.
Jake: Why don't you come and give this pirate some booty.
Amanda: I can't. No, I can't. I can't. I'm expected to drop some papers off to J.R.
Jake: Wait a second. I thought J.R. gave you the day off.
Amanda: He did, but I was supposed to do this last week. I totally spaced.
Jake: If you want to have another kid, you kind of got to jump on it. We have to take advantage of every baby-making opportunity that we can. Don't you think?
Asher: If you flip those colors, the text will be a lot clearer to see.
Colby: That is so much better. Thank you.
Asher: You're welcome.
Colby: I would hug you, but the last time I did, you were in so much pain and --
Angie: Are we going to eat this entire meal in silence? Jesse, you said you were ok with this.
Jesse: I know what I said, baby, but I changed my mind. I don't trust that bastard as far as I can throw him. It's just too risky, babe.
Angie: I know exactly who David is and the risk involved in going ahead with this.
Jesse: Then why are you doing it?
Angie: You can see! Everyone who tells me not to trust David can see! Cover your eyes. You live in darkness for a while, then maybe you won't be so quick to kill my hope!
Jane: Jesse Hubbard wants to talk to me again about the kidnapping.
David: So?
Jane: So it's bad enough being accosted by the reporters and Greenlee coming after me like some rabid dog. Get these people off my back.
David: All right. Look, get ahold of yourself. Ok? Everything is gonna be fine.
Jane: I knew it. I knew you were using me to get what you wanted, and now you're gonna just turn me over to them. You're gonna make me take the fall.
David: Look, let's get a grip and think logically here for a second. All right? If I were to expose you, let Erica resurface, what would that do? It would invalidate the entire hospital sale. I would be right back where I started.
Jane: I can't decide. Are you using me or not?
David: You're beautiful. You have a whole new life, the life you've always wanted. You're living your dream, and that's not because luck fell in your lap. You worked hard for this. You put in your blood, your sweat, your tears, and I respect that. I respect you, Jane, unlike most of the people in this town -- nothing but a bunch of liars and fakes passing themselves off as heroes, taking what they don't deserve. You are the real deal. Everything you have you've earned.
Jane: I have worked hard, and now I have everything I want. So the thought of getting caught and going to prison --
David: No. No one is going to prison.
Jane: That's my worst nightmare: Sitting in a cell with nothing to do except think about what I lost.
David: If you do everything I say, stop doubting me, and stay focused, everything is gonna be fine. You just keep telling yourself one thing: You are Erica Kane. You remember that, everything will be right in your world.
Jesse: I know how frustrated you are and how badly you want your sight back, and I'm behind you in that 1,000%.
Angie: Unless David's involved. Then I get no support at all.
Jesse: There's something you need to know about the sale of the hospital. I'm investigating Hayward for fraud.
Angie: Jesse, please don't.
Jesse: I have to. It's my job, babe.
Angie: You can hold off just for a little while.
Jesse: My bosses want answers. I got no choice.
Angie: All right, you investigate David all you want. Just don't act on anything yet. Give me a chance to see if this will work.
Colby: Oh --
Asher: What's wrong?
Colby: Can we just slow down a little bit?
Asher: I can take it slow.
Colby: No, I -- just the whole thing. I don't know. It's just a little out of nowhere.
Asher: "Nowhere"? I've wanted you since the second I saw you.
Colby: I know, and I could tell that when you kissed me.
Asher: You kissed back.
Colby: I shouldn't have. I had a boyfriend.
Asher: Which is why I didn't push it. Everything with Damon, your mom --
Colby: No, I don't want to talk about them, ok, because now it's just us.
Asher: But you don't want to --
Colby: No, I do. I want to, but I -- look. I've rushed into sex before, and I ended up really regretting it. So if we could just take our time and not rush?
Asher: Yeah. Sure. What are you writing?
Colby: A new wall post -- telling everybody we're officially together.
J.R.: I don't mean to be such a downer. I'm just not proud of the guy I saw in the mirror this morning.
Tad: Then why don't you give me a moment to tell you what I see? I see a wonderful little boy who was stuck with some bad karma, some big shoes to fill. I see a young man who's busted his ass to break some bad habits. He's taking responsibility, growing up, making amends. I see a man who knows he's got a good thing just within reach and he wants to make it work.
J.R.: But he's not sure that he can.
Tad: Yeah. Welcome to the club. Take a number and stand in line. I know how that is. You want something so badly for so long, and then eventually you forget you ever wanted anything, and then you just -- end up thrashing around in desperation. And then one day you wake up, and you realize the ship has sailed. But that's the thing about life: It's a lot bigger than we'll ever be. Before you know it, if you're lucky, you clean up your damage and you move on a little bit. And then one day you look at the horizon and that ship's coming back your way. The only thing that's constant about life is change, and all we can do is stay on the right path, and you're on it. I can see it. You're my boy, and you're doing all right.
J.R.: Maybe. I'm back together with Marissa.
Tad: All right! See? Terrific. Proud of you. What do you say we celebrate, huh? I'm buying. You know how rare that is. Let's go to Krystal's. We can have a meal for your birthday. It's twice the fun, twice the cake.
J.R.: Oh, I'd love to, but I'm actually waiting on some paperwork that I have to sign.
Tad: Really? Really? I take back everything I just said -- pushed aside for paperwork.
J.R.: Oh, come on. Will you take a rain check?
Tad: For you? Anytime.
Jake: Oh, what's wrong?
Amanda: I have to stop by J.R.'s for a minute, and you're trying to make me feel bad about it.
Jake: I'm kidding about that. Look, I'm just hoping for a little rewind action of last night, is all. Ok?
Amanda: Can we rewind a lot of things?
Jake: I think we lost our way because of me, ok, because I wasn't showing you how much you meant to me and how much you do mean to me and committed I am to us and our family and this marriage and our son. And I think last night -- I think the whole thing was a beautiful, strong reminder of how strong we really are. That's how I feel. And if I'm making you feel guilty about J.R., go. Go, go. I'm just joking. Do what you got to do. I'll be here. I'll be right on the couch where you left me. Ok? Just go ahead. If we're lucky, we're already pregnant. We're already pregnant -- let's think like that. Maybe we are. Who knows?
Jesse: I hate this. I can't stand that you are playing guinea pig for David Hayward.
Angie: We're just going to talk. That's all.
David: Dr. Hubbard. So glad you could make it.
Angie: Hello.
David: Jesse, always a pleasure. Please come in. Isn't this amazing? Not only do I own this fine establishment, but now I may have the privilege of helping Angela regain her sight.
Jesse: You don't have those privileges anymore here.
David: Just a figure of speech, Chief. My days of violating the law are well behind me.
Jesse: That's good, because nobody here is touching my wife without a license to practice, and you don't have one of those anymore.
Angie: Why don't you come back to pick me up in a little while. Ok? This won't take very long, will it?
David: No more than an hour. It's all right, Jesse. I plan on taking excellent care of your wife.
Amanda: Here.
J.R.: Thank you. You've been crying.
Amanda: Jake wants to have another baby.
J.R.: And you don't?
Amanda: Of course, I do. When he told me he wanted to try, I went to bed with the biggest smile on my face. And then I woke up in a complete panic, because what if the worst thing that could've happened happened? We had sex a couple days ago. How could we be stupid enough not to use protection again?
J.R.: No. No, that's impossible.
Amanda: According to my calendar, it's very possible.
J.R.: From one time? Amanda, you know the chances of that? I'm not even gonna get worked up over this. There's no point.
Krystal: Hey. Guess what.
Tad: What?
Krystal: A little birdie told me that J.R. and Marissa are getting back together.
Tad: Yeah. I know. Our little avian friend apparently gets around, because I heard the same thing.
Krystal: I just hope it goes better than it did the last time.
Tad: You and me both. I talked to J.R. He's certainly committed to making it work.
Krystal: We'll see. What?
Tad: What?
Krystal: You're not eating your hamburger.
Tad: Eh.
Krystal: What's on your mind?
Tad: Phillies.
Krystal: Try again.
Tad: Cara.
Krystal: I thought things were going good with you two.
Tad: They are, better than I could've hoped.
Krystal: And that's bad?
Tad: I don't know. I -- hmm. This whole thing started out as a way of me helping her, and it seems to -- it really seems to be growing into something more.
Krystal: That's what you wanted.
Tad: I thought so.
Colby: It's so great to finally have our feelings out there for one another.
Asher: Why'd you have to post on the Vlog, though?
Colby: They're my fans. I can't keep them in the dark. That just wouldn't be right.
Asher: What'd you say?
Colby: I said that we started off as friends, and that we are taking it very, very slowly.
Asher: But you're the break-off girl. Aren't you supposed to be against relationships?
Colby: In the beginning, I was against relationships, because I had been hurt in the most horrendous way possible. But the more I Vlogged and the more I wrote, the stronger I got. And this whole thing -- it wasn't about me being alone forever. It's about having compassion for people who had been hurt the same way I had and giving them hope that there's something better out there for them. And my "something better" -- it turned out to be you.
[Door opens]
Maya: I'm sorry I'm late.
Colby: Oh, that's ok. So what's with the sunglasses?
Maya: I ran into a door. It looks worse than it is. I just didn't want to get you guys all worried, you know? Anyway, I should get to work.
Colby: Maya, someone is hurting you, and I want to know who it is.
Angie: When will the research doctors be here?
David: They're not coming.
Angie: What do you mean?
David: Those plans I had you look over, the ones the other doctors are working on, you can forget them.
Angie: I don't understand.
David: That treatment won't work, Angela. It won't do anything to bring back your sight.
Maya: I don't know what you're talking about. No one is hurting me.
Colby: Maya, I've seen your bruises.
Asher: You have other bruises?
Maya: I'm just a klutz, ok?
Colby: Maya, I said you can trust me, ok? We can go to the cops.
Maya: No. No cops.
Colby: This guy could kill you!
Asher: Colby --
Colby: No, someone is doing this to her, and they're not stopping. Maya, you need to tell us who it is so we can help you.
Maya: I don't need help. Ok? And I feel like I'm getting a cold. I think I'm gonna take a sick day.
Colby: Maya, wait. I --
[Door opens and closes]
Asher: When I first met her, she was a mess. I thought it was because of her breakup. Come on.
Colby: Where are we going?
Asher: We're gonna follow her.
Tad: The ironic thing is I just finished having this whole conversation with J.R. about making mistakes, putting it in the past, being positive, moving ahead, and to be confident -- basically all the things I'm not with Cara.
Krystal: Because of Jake?
Tad: Yeah. I mean, it started out that way. It's impossible to expect anything to happen between me and Cara, because she and my brother had unfinished business and that they seemed to have worked through it.
Krystal: Yeah. They put the past to rest.
Tad: Yeah. And now that things between Jake and Amanda -- now that they're doing great, that wall is gone between me and Cara.
Krystal: Honey, that's really huge for all of you.
Tad: Then why am I feeling so weird? I -- it -- blah. Something just feels off. I don't know. Maybe I've just been out of the game for too long.
Krystal: I got a feeling you still know what you're doing.
Tad: Get your mind out of the gutter, woman. Tsh-tsh. I'm talking about the fact that if me and Cara had done it the more traditional way, you meet, you fall in love, and we kind of skip over the part where she was married to my brother and wanted by a gang of drug lords.
Krystal: Honey, look. The obstacles between you and Cara are gone, ok, so don't start putting them back when you don't have a reason to.
Tad: Why shouldn't I, little miss fortune cookie? What, you're gonna give me a guarantee? Huh? Happy endings for everybody where nobody gets hurt?
Krystal: No. Listen, you don't know what's gonna happen down the road. We won't. We won't unless we take the plunge. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and take the leap.
J.R.: I understand where you're coming from, I really do, but there is no reason to stress.
Amanda: "No reason"? Are you joking? I cannot believe this is happening. I can't believe I let this happen.
J.R.: Nothing happened.
Amanda: You keep saying that, but it won't make it true. I fell into bed with you. I didn't think. I didn't stop. I just gave it up like some slut.
J.R.: No. No, you are not that.
Amanda: That's who I was when I was pregnant with Trevor. I didn't even know who the father was -- you, Jake, David. I've worked so hard to become a better person, but I'm no better. I'm worse than I ever was.
J.R.: What's done is done. There's no reason to beat yourself up over it. If anything, this mistake shows just how committed we are to the people that we love.
Amanda: That is such a lie. We had a one-night stand. If it proves anything, it proves how weak we are!
J.R.: You're gonna have the future you always wanted with Jake. Nothing's gonna change that.
Amanda: Except maybe being knocked up with your kid.
J.R.: Come on, Amanda. You're headed in the right direction with Jake, just like Marissa and I. We're officially together now.
Amanda: Really?
J.R.: Yeah. And she doesn't have to know what we did. No one does. It's over.
Amanda: I'm not so sure about that. I've been having these twinges right here.
Jesse: As you know, we've hit a dead end in our investigation into your kidnapping. I just wanted to see if there might've been something new you remember?
Jane: No. I've told you everything I can remember. And to tell you the truth, I really would like to just put all that behind me. I'd like to move on with my life.
Jesse: I understand that, but I do have a crime to solve. I was hoping you might drive with me back out to the crime scene.
Jane: Oh, no, no. I don't want to do that.
Jesse: It could jog your memory.
Jane: I'm not trying to be difficult. It's just that I don't know what else I could possibly tell you.
Jesse: How about why you decided to team up with David Hayward?
Jane: That was a good business move.
Jesse: Ok, but teaming up with David Hayward? Who does that, unless you're looking for trouble?
Jane: That's such an odd thing for you to say, because isn't Dr. Hayward working with your wife?
Angie: Why would you put me through all of this, and you knew the treatment wouldn't work? Answer me!
David: Because there's another treatment, one that will work. I've been doing my own research for quite sometime.
Angie: What kind of research?
David: Along the lines of what I've already told you.
Angie: Stem cells?
David: Yes, that's right. Those specialists I told you about are going down the wrong path. There's no way they're gonna get the results.
Angie: And you will?
David: Absolutely -- by using autologous stem cells taken from your own skin. We take a small patch from under your arm, we treat them, and we turn them into your own retinal stem cells.
Angie: That work is still in its early stages. It hasn't even passed animal testing.
David: Oh, but it has. It's gone way past -- when you're not hampered by government rules and regulations.
Angie: Oh, I get it. You've been conducting illegal experiments.
David: I've been proceeding with my own work, investing a great deal of time and money, and it's finally paid off. The results are nothing short of revolutionary.
Angie: Meaning what?
David: Meaning I can give you back your sight permanently. All I ask in return is that you don't breathe a word of this.
Angie: You expect me to lie?
David: As far as anyone else is concerned, nothing will have changed. You'll be receiving the experimental treatment that we originally discussed and the specialists that you've already researched.
Angie: Oh, God. Jesse was right. He knew you'd pull something like this. And you know what? Deep inside, I did, too.
David: Would you rather I said nothing and allow you to enter into a course of treatment that I know won't work?
Angie: I'd rather you told the truth from the beginning!
David: You know something? We could start this process in a matter of minutes. All I need to do is draw a little blood, take a small skin biopsy, and work my magic.
Angie: "Magic" or "con game"?
David: I swear to you, Angela, this is no game. I have the ability to isolate and grow any type of cells that I want.
Angie: If you've made such brilliant progress, why haven't you gone public? With this patent, you'd be the richest man on the planet.
David: It's never been about the money for me. You should know that. Above all else, I am a healer.
Angie: You're a doctor without a medical license asking your one and only possible patient to cover for you.
David: Don't you want to watch your little girl grow up? Don't you want to get back to practicing medicine again the way you want to, the way you were intended to? That is all possible.
Angie: I want to draw my own blood, and I'll open the kit myself.
David: If that's what you want. Would you at least allow me to tie your tourniquet? What's wrong?
Angie: Your hands are warm.
David: Surprising, huh? Everyone assumes I have ice running through my veins, that I'm cold, inhuman, completely lacking in empathy for others.
Angie: Whose fault is that?
David: You know something? You're right. I am not perfect in many ways. But when it comes to my work, I am. Because practicing medicine isn't just a job, it's a calling, and you know that as well as I do.
Angie: But I didn't forget my promise to do no harm.
David: You know something, Angela? Many of the mistakes I made didn't change the fact that I am still a healer. And if you don't believe that, you could ask any of the many people whose lives I've already saved. They will tell you that that is absolutely the truth.
Angie: You do it.
Jesse: With all due respect, Erica, I am not here to discuss my wife.
Jane: You were asking me about the wisdom of my forming a partnership with David Hayward. I think it's relevant. Wouldn't your wife be the first to admit that Dr. Hayward is a superb physician?
Jesse: You can be "a superb physician" and also be criminally insane at the same time. The name "Dr. Hannibal Lecter" ring a bell?
Jane: Well. Thank you for stopping by, Jesse. You don't have to worry about David Hayward and me.
Jesse: It seems every woman says that about David Hayward right before he obliterates their lives.
Jane: But I'm not "every woman." I'm Erica Kane.
J.R.: All right. These twinges that you're having can't be because you're pregnant. It's too early to feel anything.
Amanda: I'd take a test, but the results -- it's too early. They won't be reliable.
J.R.: Ok. Then here's a better idea -- how about we forget it?
Amanda: I can't. I have this really weird feeling.
J.R.: Yeah. It's called a guilty conscience. We made a mistake. Go enjoy your life with Jake like I am with Marissa.
Amanda: So that's your answer, just pretend it never happened?
J.R.: It has to be. We have to protect the people that we love. Thank you for bringing this by. Go home. Be with your husband.
Colby: She looks scared. What do we do?
Asher: Hey, let her go!
Colby: Asher!
Asher: Let go!
Colby: Asher!
Maya: Asher, what are you doing here?
Asher: I said let her go.
Man: Who the hell are you?
[Ashes punches the man]
Maya: Are you insane?!
David: All done. The scar is small enough. No one should even notice.
Angie: How long before we can do this?
David: That depends on how the separation process goes. I have to make sure that I am growing retinal cells, and that could take a few tries.
Angie: And then a direct injection into the eye?
David: That's right.
Angie: Who was the first patient you ever lost?
David: I don't remember. But I'm not gonna lose you. Come on. Jesse's waiting. Now, remember, not a word of this to anyone, right?
Maya: Why did you hit him? He's my friend.
Asher: Your friend?
Maya: This is Mookie.
Colby: "Mookie"?
Mookie: Yeah. Named after the baseball player.
Maya: He's just protecting me from my old boyfriend, the guy who did this. Ok, Mookie was just stopping me from going back to see him. That's all.
Asher: But he grabbed you. I thought that --
Maya: You thought wrong.
Asher: Then I guess I'm sorry, man.
Mookie: It's cool. You're looking out for Maya, same as me.
Maya: I'm fine, ok? You guys can go now.
Asher: I'm sorry again.
Mookie: It's all good. That's one lucky guy right there. If it weren't for you, he'd be dead. Who was that guy, anyway?
Maya: Asher just lives at the house where I work.
Mookie: You got a thing with him?
Maya: What? No! He's with Colby, ok? They saw this and probably followed me here.
Mookie: I'm sorry, baby. It was the last time, I swear.
Maya: You've said that before.
Mookie: I mean it this time. You know how much I love you, and the way you had my back, I know you love me, too. Hmm?
Asher: I can't believe I hit Maya's friend like that.
Colby: No, it's ok. It was an honest mistake. You look kind of beat. Do you think you should lay down?
Asher: No. I'm good. I still got a bunch of pain pills left.
Colby: Oh, ok. Take it easy, ok?
Asher: Ok.
Colby: Promise?
Asher: Yeah.
Colby: You defending Maya like that was kind of hot.
J.R.: I was just gonna get some takeout, but if you're still up for it --
Tad: I already ate, but have a seat. Come on. Order anything you want. It's on me.
J.R.: Anything? Someone's in a generous mood.
Tad: I was just thinking about our conversation we had a little earlier. The fact is for everybody, we never know what's coming around the bend, what the future holds. And the fact is we won't until we take the leap.
J.R.: Let's take that leap together.
Tad: You're on. I got a good feeling about this, like it's gonna work out for all of us.
[Amanda groans]
Jake: What is it? What is it?
Amanda: Oh, it's just my stomach. It's been bugging me since this morning.
Jake: So you're nauseas?
Amanda: It's not morning sickness, if that's what you're thinking.
Jake: That's kind of what we were hoping for, right?
Amanda: Right, but this isn't it. I think I just ate something that didn't agree with me. Do you mind if I try and take a nap?
Jake: No. Lay down. Lay down. Make yourself comfortable. Want me to make you some tea?
Amanda: That'd be great, thank you.
Jake: "Make your stomach feel better" tea? We still have it. We got it, babe, you and me.
Amanda: Oh, please, God, don't let me be pregnant.
Jesse: How'd it go?
Angie: Fine.
Jesse: So you still gonna go through with this treatment?
Angie: We just talked. Everything's under control.
Jane: Jesse's not dropping this, so now I have to worry about him in addition to Greenlee.
David: Ok. Don't stress. Everything is going according to plan. Trust me.
Jane: "Trust you"? Are you kidding? Why would I do that? Nobody else does.
David: All right. Look, don't group yourself in with all those idiots.
Jane: Maybe I am the idiot for getting involved in this in the first place, for ever getting involved with you. I knew your reputation. I knew you very well. I knew --
David: I want you.
Jane: No. No, I can't.
David: Of course, you can.
Jane: No, I can't. No, I can't. I can't. You don't understand. I can't because I've never done this before.
David: Then it's gonna be all the more special.
