[Birds chirp as Amanda and Jake kiss in the park]
Amanda: Wow. I didn't think you'd forgive me that fast.
Jake: Yeah. You know, we all make mistakes.
Amanda: I didn't make a mistake. I -- I lied to my husband. Tried to get pregnant without telling you.
Jake: Doesn't matter.
Amanda: How can you say that?
Jake: It doesn't matter. Because I just want it to be all in the past, in the rear view mirror, ok? I want us to move on.
Amanda: I don't understand. What I did was really bad, and I made it worse by not telling you right when I knew I wasn't pregnant. Why would you just let it go like that?
[Tad kisses Cara]
Cara: Oh.
Tad: Oh. Oh. Me oh. I'm sorry. I got carried away.
Cara: Oh, Tad --
Tad: You were so cute. You were so happy, and I was happy you were happy, so I just did the wrong --
Cara: You don't need to -- it's ok. You don't have to apologize for kissing your wife.
Griffin: Did you just say that you --
Kendall: Yes. I want you. I want you to stay. Because I need you. Can I start over? Yeah. I'm gonna start over.
Griffin: Ok.
Kendall: Um -- oh -- we work -- we work well together. Very, very well. Which is not to say I can't do things on my own, because I can, but what I want to do next, there is no way I can do it without you.
Erica: Please, wait. Wait. If you're still in there, please, please. Come in. Please. I could use the company. It's so hard eating alone all the time. Just this once. Please join me.
David: Who is Jane Campbell?
Jane: Give me the shot. Can't breathe.
David: You really need this, don't you, Erica? I understand because, well, there's something I need just as bad. My medical license. You sign this recommendation, as you promised you would, and I give you the shot. Save your life.
Jane: ]Gasping] Forget you.
David: I'd strongly advise against leaving. If you don't get some adrenaline soon, you could die.
Jane: I'll be fine.
David: Maybe, if you get to a hospital in time, but for some reason you don't want to go to a hospital right now. So it looks like I'm your only bet. That's right. Your best bet, your only bet.
David: Ahh. Thank you, Erica.
Jane: Give me the shot!
David: All right, ok, ok, ok. Take it easy. You'll feel a little pinch, all right?
[Jane gasping]
David: Slow, easy breaths. You'll feel better soon. You see that? When is everyone in this town gonna finally realize that I hold the power of life and death in my hands?
Jake: I know why you did what you did. You did it out of love.
Amanda: So that's it? I'm forgiven?
Jake: Yes. Yes and yes.
Amanda: I don't know. It just still feels off.
Jake: We've been off. Right? We've been off. And I'm gonna take half the blame for that. But look where we are today. Right? This is the day, this is our anniversary of the first day I asked you to marry me, so let's just focus on that. That's beautiful. I'm committed to that. Let's just get back to where we were.
Amanda: I am committed to that. Jake, that is all that I want.
Jake: Beautiful. So let's just love each other and let's protect this, and let's start by -- I don't know, let's take a holiday. Let's take a vacation. Just the three of us.
Amanda: Really?
Jake: Yes, absolutely. Let's ride horses on beaches. I saw a pamphlet. They have that. Let's go to Maine. You like lobster? You love lobster. We'll go to a lobster shack.
Amanda: You're swamped at the hospital. I have work. I told Angie I'd help her with Lucy's christening and --
Jake: Honey, honey, nothing is more important than family. This family. Everything else can wait. Right?
[Glasses clink]
Tad: Ok, no, now I'm starting to panic. Tell me you're not creeped out. Because I get it. I get it. A hug, maybe a peck on the cheek.
Cara: No, no, no. It's ok. We're married, right?
Tad: Technically, we're friends pretending to be married, and I just want you to know, I understand it.
Cara: You married me to keep me alive, ok? You've kept my brother from going to prison, so that makes you the best friend I've ever had.
Tad: It also makes me sound like a saint, and it's not true. Just do me a favor. Stop saying it. You and your brother are amazing people, human beings. All you ever do is try to save other people's lives, including Jake's, so as far as I'm concerned, I was just, you know --
Cara: I think you're getting a raw deal here.
Tad: No! Being married to you is not a raw deal. If nothing else, you're just -- you're a heck of a lot of fun to stare at.
[Cara snickers, then laughs]
Tad: I'm making it up as I go along. And not only that, let me tell you something. I had my annual physical last week. I don't know how to explain it, but I'm stylin'. I'm not kidding. Good stuff is up and the bad stuff is down. According to my doctor, I'm getting younger.
Cara: And better-looking.
Tad: I'm not kidding. He was stunned. He asked me what was going on, and I told him what had happened and about you, and he's gonna recommend marriage to all his patients. As a matter of fact, he was so stunned, we came up with a slogan. "Marriage -- it's good for what ails ya."
[Cara remembers talking to Jake]
Cara: We talked about this. It would kill Amanda if she found out, and I know what I have with Tad is completely different, but I've gotta tell you, I'm feeling guilty.
Tad: Yeah, I know. That really does kind of suck, doesn't it? I tell you what -- I'll come up with another slogan.
Cara: No. No. That slogan was -- everything is great.
Tad: Obviously not. What about the kiss?
Cara: Ha ha!
Tad: What is it? What else is bothering you?
Griffin: That you can't do without me?
Kendall: Fulfill Zach's dream -- open Miranda Centers all around the world.
Griffin: Yeah, but I brought so much bad press, I scared away so many donors, Bianca asked me to step down.
Kendall: Pretty soon everyone will realize that those murder charges are ridiculous. They'll be calling you a hero for taking those drugs from the hospital. Listen, just hear me out, ok? Just hear me out.
Griffin: Oh, boy.
Kendall: I have an idea. I have an idea. Ok? Listen. Now, when you were at that abandoned house, you helped people who had medical problems. You gave them medical treatment. You helped kids. You helped the elderly. And they kept coming to you. They all kept coming to you. But one doctor is not enough to fill that need. So I was thinking of maybe turning that place into a Miranda Center.
Griffin: But there already is a Miranda Center. Your sister created it.
Kendall: But that's for women and children. This would be completely different. Completely different. This would be a clinic. Different services, different neighborhood.
Griffin: It's a great idea. You should go for it. But once the charges on me are cleared, I'm outta here, Kendall.
Kendall: Griffin, come on. I mean, you saw that little boy's face when you told him you couldn't help him or his family. He was crushed.
Griffin: It's not like I'm leaving them high and dry. I told them that there was a free clinic in town.
Kendall: All right, look. I am not asking you for a permanent commitment. I'm not. I'm just hoping that maybe you could stick around just for a little bit just to teach me what I need to know. And then I will take over from there. I can do it all on my own. So what do you think? You think maybe you can deal with me in your face a little bit longer?
Griffin: All right. All right. I'll give it a shot.
Kendall: Really? Good! Great! Excellent!
Griffin: But you start driving me crazy, I'm out.
Kendall: Ok, no, no, no, no, deal. Got it. This is good. Ok. So when can you start?
Griffin: Now works.
Kendall: Now?
Griffin: Mm-hmm.
Kendall: Ok. You don't have any -- no hot dates? Your calendar is --
Griffin: Remember what I said about driving me crazy?
Kendall: Right. Ok. Great. I'm gonna get the paperwork right now.
Erica: Oh. I'm so glad you decided to join me. Come in.
Ben: This was a mistake.
Erica: I won't tell Jane. This'll be just our secret. And you can take this away. I don't want it.
Ben: You have to eat.
Erica: I'm not hungry.
Ben: Suit yourself. You can't starve yourself again.
Erica: You're worried about me. Listen, how about this? If you stay, I'll eat. You don't have to sit with me. You don't have to talk to me. You don't even have to look at me -- just -- don't leave.
Jane: What are you doing?
David: Your breathing sounds better.
Jane: Back off.
David: That's a nice way to show your gratitude.
Jane: For what? For using my suffering to make me sign that letter?
David: Shoot me. Oh, that's right, your daughter already did that. Come on, Erica. I want to practice medicine again. Your endorsement's gonna go a long way to making that a reality.
Jane: If I had refused, you would've let me die?
David: I wouldn't let that happen. You know that. But you should also know that I don't do favors without expecting something in return. But in this case -- I may have gotten a lot more than I bargained for. You still haven't told me who Jane Campbell is.
Jane: She's a friend.
David: The prescription's from Connecticut.
Jane: Yeah, she's from Connecticut. We happened to meet on an airplane one time. I was sitting next to her, and I had an attack and I forgot my epi-pen, and so she gave me hers.
David: That's very convenient. And fortunate for you.
Jane: And now I have to go, because Jack is gonna be very, very worried about me.
David: You're gonna want to stay seated, Erica, or you're gonna pass out. So -- when did you become allergic to fennel?
Jane: I don't know. Recently.
David: Really? That's so funny. Most food allergies, they develop during childhood. Just seems odd that it would come on so late.
Jane: It happens. Just let it go.
David: Someone's getting touchy.
Jane: Why are you interrogating me?
David: Consider it a fault of mine. I'm a very curious man. Who were you arguing with in the park?
Jane: I have no idea what you're talking about.
David: This afternoon. You were tearing him a new one. I saw you, Erica. You were furious. What did he do?
Jane: What part of "I don't know what you're talking about" don't you understand?
David: I have one last question. Why did you have reconstructive surgery?
Cara: Just -- I'm kind of all over the place right now, and I need to pull myself together in order to, you know, talk about it.
Tad: Yeah, well, just so you know --
Cara: Yeah?
Tad: I have a problem myself, actually. It's something I didn't think I was gonna talk about, but as long as we're getting it out there.
Cara: Ok.
Tad: It's something that needs to be said.
Cara: Are -- are you ok?
Tad: No. I'm not. Because I had to sit through three hours of the worst horror films ever shot because of you. I had to endure ages of cheesy dialogue and bad special effects. I'm telling you, my brain is fried. I'm turning into a zombie myself. For all I know, I'm gonna start running into walls and walking into traffic. You're talking to me one minute and the next minute --
Cara: Tad? Tad. That was great. I like that. The shake out of it. Ahhh. That was good.
Tad: Yeah, well, I'm not quite there yet, but it's nothing a little zombie salsa couldn't fix. You know the zombie salsa?
Cara: No, but I have a feeling you're gonna show me.
Tad: It's very big down my way.
Cara: Oh.
Tad: Zombie -- salsa.
Cara: It's always gotta be about salsa, though, right?
Kendall: Ok, obviously we have to go over this with Bianca. Here you go. But I was thinking we could have this really huge fundraiser, and if we raise enough money, maybe we could have the clinic built by flu season. What?
Griffin: I'm impressed.
Kendall: You're making fun of me.
Griffin: No. Not at all. It's great to see you bounce back so fast.
Kendall: This is what Zach wanted. I'm doing this for him. I don't want to let him down. So --
Griffin: I didn't say anything.
Kendall: Isn't this the part where you tell me I have to slow down and take it easy and not push myself?
Griffin: I want you to stay healthy. But I can see that this is doing you a lot of good, especially after everything that happened with Ricky.
Kendall: Yeah, that was horrible. But I have no regrets. The man who killed my husband is behind bars.
Griffin: And Zach got justice.
Kendall: And I finally have peace. Thanks to you.
Tad: Stop it.
Cara: That was classic.
Tad: The zombie salsa, man.
Cara: You made me smile, though. And you are good at that. Thanks.
Tad: Sometimes it seems like it's the only thing I'm good at. But at least it's something that I can do for you. I just want you to know you don't always have to be so strong for other people. It's not such a bad thing to have to lean on a friend. Or a husband. Or a friend who happens to be a husband.
Cara: I hit the jackpot with you.
Tad: Keep talking.
Cara: I could've married a jerk who expected benefits or cash. Yeah.
Tad: How much cash are we talking about?
Cara: You're a good man.
Tad: And you're a good woman. A very good woman. You're the reason Jake's alive.
Cara: Well, you make me want to be a better woman. To show you how much I appreciate everything that you've done for me and for my brother.
Tad: You don't owe me anything.
Cara: I owe you everything, actually. At the very least respect, Tad. But what do I do? I just go and I mess that one up.
Tad: How? You haven't done anything. I'm the one that walks in here and throws myself on you. Seriously, Cara, what have you ever done that was that bad?
[Cara remembers lying with Jake and kissing]
Jake: Mm. That sure beats filling out charts.
Cara: Ha!
Jake: What are you thinking about right now? What's going through your mind? Hmm? Are you crying? Why are you crying? What's wrong? Why are you crying?
Cara: I'm sorry.
Jake: What are you sorry for? For being the best thing that ever happened to me? Are you kidding me? What's wrong? Tell me what's wrong.
Kendall: All right. Come here. Come sit with me right now. I need to tell you. I never, ever could have dealt with Ricky without you.
Griffin: It took some serious guts, doing what you did. That freak's in prison because of you.
Kendall: Yeah, but I mean, he tried to frame you for murder. He ruined your life. And you could've run away, but you didn't. You stuck around to fight for your name and to help me. You are the one who's brave.
Griffin: Ha! Really? I think --
Kendall: Really? You think -- would you please shut up for once? Please just shut up and let me compliment you. Ok? Listen?
Griffin: Yeah, I'll shut up. Go ahead.
Kendall: Thank you. When Zach died, I -- I wasn't sure how I would ever go on. I didn't think I could. The only thing that kept me going, aside from my boys, was this mission -- finding the man who killed him and bringing him to justice. And you. You helped me do that.
Griffin: So basically, I'm your hero.
Kendall: More like a giant pain in the ass. But one that I'm very, very grateful for.
Erica: That was delicious. I just love fennel. I never had it cooked this way.
Ben: You done?
Erica: Oh, yes. I just can't get over that dish, though. It was just so good. This is definitely not from Krystal's. What was in this?
Ben: Olive oil. Salt and pepper. A little chicken broth. That's it.
Erica: You're the chef? Oh, come on. I'm not asking for state secrets. I mean, my goodness. You are a really good cook.
Ben: I wouldn't go that far.
Erica: I have dined all over the world, and I'm telling you -- with talent like this, you could open your own restaurant. Why would you waste your time working for Jane? Oh, please don't go.
David: While you were resting, I got a good look at your hairline. Saw some very fine surgical scars.
Jane: You know very well. I had facial reconstruction after that car accident you caused.
David: No, no, no. No, that was a long time ago. Those scars, they're much more recent.
Jane: I was injured in that quarry explosion, and I needed some facial surgery.
David: See, that doesn't work, either, because I keep very close tabs on PVH, and you were barely there long enough for a checkup, let alone major reconstructive work. So what gives?
Jane: None of your business. Now I have to go.
David: You don't want to leave without this. Fell out of your purse.
Jane: Don't touch that.
David: Who is the girl? I'm Dr. David Hayward. And who might you be? They're two of a kind.
Jane: What kind of a question is that?
David: It's a damn good one, and I expect an answer.
Jane: Don't be ridiculous. You know exactly who I am.
David: Erica Kane and I have history. Intimate history. What I'm seeing here doesn't add up.
Jane: I don't know what you're talking about.
David: For starters, Erica doesn't have food allergies. Clearly, you do. Erica doesn't touch alcohol, whereas you're boozing it up every chance you get.
Jane: Are you finished? Because I have an appointment.
David: Do you honestly expect me to believe that all of a sudden, Erica can handle alcohol? That fennel, one of her favorite foods, could kill her?
Jane: I don't care what you believe. Hey!
David: Something about this doesn't add up. Something about you. Something about those scars.
Jane: Stop staring at me.
David: This is too freakin' bizarre. But it's the only thing that makes sense. Look at me.
Jane: No.
David: Look at me, damn it. You are not Erica. You transformed yourself. Your face. Your body. But why?
Jane: I'm leaving now.
David: If you're an imposter, what happened to the real Erica? Did you kill her?
Jane: No, of course not. I love Erica Kane. I would never hurt her.
David: Oh, my God. It's true. You're a fake.
Cara: I want you to know that I'm not trying to push you away or anything.
Tad: I'm not taking it that way. I don't think you're pushing me away. I think that you're a person of your word, and that's one of the things I like the most about being married to you. If you tell me something, then that's all I need to know. You tell me you want to deal with something on your own, then that's more than good enough for me.
Cara: I think you give me too much credit, Tad.
Tad: I don't think I give you enough. But just remember, things aren't quite that bad.
Cara: Right.
Tad: If you need me, I'm here.
Cara: You gotta stop that. Stop being so -- generous and thoughtful. I don't know how much more I can take.
Tad: Can't help it. Because you bring out what's best in me.
Jake: Cara?
Cara's voice: If you're reading this, it means I'm gone. I wanted to tell you in person, but every time I tried, I'd fall apart. My heart is breaking as I write these words, but you deserve an explanation. I'm leaving because I met someone else. I'm so sorry, Jake. I don't love you anymore.
Jake: Cara?
David: Where is Erica?
Jane: She's somewhere safe.
David: I swear, if you've hurt her --
Jane: No. I didn't.
David: Why should I believe you?
Jane: Because Erica Kane is the most important person in the world to me.
David: Important? So important that you'd kidnap her? Steal her identity? Turning yourself into some freakish clone? What the hell have you done to Erica?
Jane: She's fine. I swear on my life.
David: So what, you're passing yourself off as her double? You have her stashed away somewhere? Is that it? This is all starting to make sense to me now. Erica disappeared right before her wedding. Because of you, right? She was kidnapped? And then what, you made sure that you were rescued instead? And what about the explosion? Did you pull that off? You realize that people could've been killed?
Jane: That was not my plan.
David: Ok, now what about this man that I saw in the park? Is he helping you pull this off, too?
Jane: I'm done talking.
David: You know something? That's fine with me. You can tell it to the police.
Jane: No.
David: Then give it up, lady. Who the hell are you?
Jane: I'm nobody. I'm no one.
David: Whoever rearranged your face did a pretty damn good job. That must have cost some serious cash. Now where did you get that kind of money?
Jane: Why does that matter? Listen to me. You're a very smart man, David. Look at the opportunity you have here -- how much you stand to gain by working with me. Everyone in the world thinks that I'm Erica Kane. I can use all that power, all that influence to help you in so many ways.
David: And what do you think you can do to help me?
Jane: We can start with that letter. That letter helps you get reinstated at the hospital. We can rebuild your reputation as one of the finest surgeons in the world. If you promise to keep my secret and work with me, it will be the best decision you ever made.
Kendall: Ok. There you go. Good as new.
Spike: Thanks, Mom.
Kendall: Mm. You're welcome, honey. Something else bothering you?
Spike: Reverend Ricky said he would take us to the Stanley Cup finals. Is Dr. Castillo going to take us there now?
Kendall: Um, well, Griffin's very busy right now.
Spike: So we're not going?
Kendall: We are gonna go. We're even gonna go with your brother. You know what? You can go to as many hockey games as you want. We can even get season tickets.
Spike: Really?
Kendall: Yes, really. Of course. Are you kidding me? Come here, you. I'm gonna take care of my boys. Yes, I am.
Cara: Thank you.
Griffin: Hey. What is it? What happened?
Cara: Oh. Well, ok. You ready?
Griffin: Yeah.
Cara: Tad kept pushing Liza about your case, so it looks like she's offering you a deal.
Griffin: You serious?
Cara: I am dead serious. Probation. Community service. No jail time.
Griffin: That's incredible.
Cara: It's not a done deal yet but it looks like it's gonna happen.
Griffin: You have one hell of a husband.
Cara: Really? I had no idea.
Griffin: What's your problem?
Cara: What's my problem? I mean, where do I begin, Griff, really? He's like the best, best guy I could have. He's too good for me.
Griffin: No, no, no. That's not true. You guys could really have something here.
Cara: No, we couldn't.
Griffin: Give me one reason why not.
Cara: Because -- it's not real. It's not a real marriage. It will never be real because of me. Forget I said anything.
Griffin: Honestly, Cara, honestly, I'm rooting for you guys, ok? Tad obviously cares about you. Eventually this could turn into something real.
Cara: Nope. You're wrong.
Griffin: So it's impossible? That's what you're telling me?
Cara: That's what I'm telling you. It's impossible. Because of Jake.
Griffin: No. Look at me. You just -- you need more time.
Cara: I don't need more time! I had years away from the guy, ok? I had thousands of miles between us.
Griffin: It's normal. You were married. You were in love.
Cara: Yeah. You're right. And now he's married to somebody else, and now he's got a child with that person, and he's moved on. He's moved way on. But you know what? Doesn't make a damn bit of difference for me.
Griffin: It's in the past, Cara. As long as it stays there, you're fine.
Cara: And what if it didn't?
Griffin: No, Caracita. No.
Jake's voice: You love your wife. You love your family. Amanda and Trevor. That's what's real. That's your life. That's your future. Cara is the past. She is the past. She is the past.
Tad: That's a nice clip. What are you running from?
Erica: Hello? Are you still there? I apologize if I offended you. I wasn't passing judgment. Just curious, that's all. You have so much potential. With all the opportunities out there, why waste yourself with this? If it's not the money, then what?
[Ben puts a single red rose by Erica's bedside]
Erica: It's beautiful.
Ben: My name is Ben.
Erica: Thank you, Ben.
Jane: The simple fact, Doctor, is that you need me as much as I need you.
David: [Chuckles] I think we both know that is not true. But I gotta hand it to you, lady. Your Erica impression is dead-on.
Jane: Think so?
David: Yeah, I do. It's very convincing.
Jane: That's good. It's exactly what I need to get you everything you want. So we have a deal?
David: I didn't say that. This is a very complicated situation. Do I really want you exploiting Erica like this? Hmm. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
Jane: You'd be a fool not to work with me. I'm the best chance you have to get everything you want.
David: That would be true if you were the real Erica Kane. But you're not.
Jane: But as far as the world is concerned, I am.
David: I still need some time to weigh out my options.
Jane: Well, that's too bad. Because I need an answer right now.
David: Well, we don't always get what we want, now, do we? Even Erica Kane has to sweat it out sometimes.
Jane: This isn't over.
David: [Chuckles] You're right about that. Not by a long shot. Stay away from that fennel, Jane.
