Madison: Oh.

Scott: Hello, there.

Madison: Hi.

Scott: Come here often?

Madison: Does that line ever work on anybody?

Scott: You could use any line in the book on me and it would work. I was thinking maybe -- you have a little time. We could come home --

Madison: No, we can't. We're late.

Scott: But you are so not fun.

Madison: Oh, really?

Scott: Maybe a little bit. Fine. Later, do you want to maybe --

Madison: Meet for lunch?

Scott: Yes. ConFusion, 1:00?

Madison: Yes, that's a date.

Scott: All right. Great.

Madison: So I guess we're kind of good, huh?

Scott: I'm sorry. "Kind of good?"

Madison: You know, after crossing the big boundary.

Scott: Right. That, yeah.

Madison: Sometimes sex can ruin things.

Scott: Let me tell you something  -- not with us.

Madison: So we're good, then?

Scott: Yeah. Why do you keep asking me that?

Madison: I don't know. You just seem like you have something on your mind this morning. Is it Ryan and Greenlee?

Scott: Ryan and Greenlee have their own problems, all right? I just don't want them to spill over and hurt you.

Madison: Now that everything's out in the open, there's nothing Greenlee can do to ruin us.

Greenlee: So you think you'll make it home for dinner?

Ryan: I'm not sure. I've got some meetings. They could run kind of late.

Greenlee: Me, too, so just let me know.

Ryan: Yeah. Sure.

Greenlee: Oh.

Ryan: I was showing it to Emma.

Greenlee: Of course.

Ryan: Anyway --

Greenlee: Do you think Scott told Madison that he and I --

Ryan: Were working together to keep her away from me? He wasn't planning on it.

Greenlee: He doesn't want to hurt her.

Ryan: Right. So then maybe he should just keep lying to her. It seems to be working for everybody else, right?

Bianca: Any word?

Jack: What do you think?

Bianca: I was hoping Mom would've tried to contact you again.

Jack: She didn't.

Bianca: Uncle Jack, I don't --

Jack: Bianca, please don't. Ok? Look, your mother may be the center of her universe, but she is very rapidly moving out of the middle of mine. Excuse me.

Distorted Voice: Doing a little reading, Erica?

Erica: Yes, I am. I'm very grateful to you for bringing my things to me. It was actually very thoughtful.

Distorted Voice: That sounded almost genuine.

Erica: There's something to be said for being here.

Distorted Voice: Really?

Erica: Yes. I know I've been, of course, fighting with you the whole time. But the truth is being isolated here, not being able to communicate with the outside world has really forced me to reflect on my life. And it's actually taught me to see things in a new light.

Krystal: Your mother is a real piece of work. I mean, come on. To back to town, not let anybody know -- not her family, not the man that she's supposed to marry? She's a really --

Bianca: Careful.

Krystal: I know she's your mother, but come on, Bianca. Not even you can defend this.

Bianca: People are allowed to be frustrated. I am frustrated, too.

Krystal: Does she have any idea how much she is hurting the people that she supposedly loves?

Bianca: I have no idea what's going on with my mom right now. All I can say if those tabloid attacks didn't bring her out fighting and our video messages didn't send her rushing back home, then she is staying away for some really good reason.

Krystal: Yeah. Tell that to Jackson.

Caleb: You did this by yourself?

Asher: Yeah.

Caleb: This is really good.

Asher: I tried to give the Cortlandt web site, like, a hip, edgy vibe to it.

Caleb: Oh, yeah. Hip and edgy -- that's me, baby.

Asher: Come on, you're getting there.

Caleb: I hope you doing this doesn't get you into trouble with J.R.

Asher: Really? You're hoping that's exactly what's gonna happen.

Caleb: Yeah, I'm just saying. I do appreciate you doing this.

Asher: Uh, you know what? I actually am running late, so --

Caleb: Blond and pretty?

Asher: I wish. No, I got to do this other thing, but I'll be back in an hour. In the meantime, you should check that out. And I actually wrote a bio, on you -- and Erica, as well.

Caleb: Erica who?

Jack: That's a good picture of her, isn't it?

Distorted voice: Bored already?

Erica: Oh, no. No, it's a fascinating story, really. Just thought I would pick something out to wear for the day, especially since you were nice enough to bring me some new clothes.

Distorted Voice: I'm glad you approve.

Erica: Well, let's not get carried away. I still hate what you're doing to me. But I am grateful that you're treating me with some sense of civility.

Distorted Voice: It means so much for me to hear you say that, Erica. You have no idea how much.

Madison: Oh.

Ryan: Hey.

Madison: Greenlee's not here yet.

Ryan: Yeah, I didn't come to see Greenlee. I came to see how you're doing.

Madison: I'm ok.

Ryan: I don't know when your next doctor's appointment is, but I thought maybe I could take you there.

Madison: That's really not necessary.

Ryan: I know it's not necessary, but I just --

Madison: Ryan.

Ryan: I don't want you to be stressed at all with this baby whatsoever, ok? And this mess that Greenlee and I are going through is --

Madison: Is yours to deal with. Ok? I'm fine. I have Scott.

Ryan: Yes, you have Scott, good old Scott.

Madison: He's been with me through everything. Why do you have this attitude about him all of a sudden?

Ryan: I just want you to be happy.

Madison: I am happy. And I know it might take a while, but Greenlee and I will get through our issues one of these days. At least we're being honest with each other.

Ryan: Yeah.

Madison: Greenlee never trusted me. She was always worried that I would use her lie to try to cause trouble between you two. But it's out now, and that changes things.

Ryan: Yes, it changes a lot of things.

Madison: I hope you two can work it out somehow.

Ryan: She didn't tell me about my child, Madison.

Madison: She wasn't alone in that lie. I was right there with her.

Ryan: I think you're being generous right now.

Madison: Yeah? Well, maybe it's because even though Scott and I are just starting out, I already know that I would do anything I could to protect what we have. That's all that Greenlee was trying to do. Maybe we're not so different after all.

David: Would you mind signing for these, please?

Greenlee: David.

David: Part-time job, remember? Working for the free clinic.

Greenlee: Right.

David: How are you?

Greenlee: Ok.

David: That's not true. Maybe you're a little better than the last time I saw you, but you're a long way from ok. You want to talk about it.

Greenlee: Heh heh! Wow. I look like that much of a basket case?

David: You did something that didn't live up to Ryan's ridiculous standards, and whatever it was, it's obviously still causing you great distress. I'd like to help.

Greenlee: Just go away.

David: I've always been a great sounding board for you, Greenlee.

Greenlee: You are also a conniving sociopath, and I know all you want is for me to help you get your old job back here at the hospital.

David: That's not all I want.

Greenlee: I don't want to hear it and I'm not desperate enough to sit here and listen to your advice, so just leave my hospital, ok?

David: Greenlee --

Greenlee: I said go!

Scott: Will you back off, Hayward? I think the last thing Greenlee needs right now is you making things worse.

David: Making what worse, Scotty? And what do you know about any of this?

Ryan: So that was a pretty nice speech.

Madison: It's not a speech. It's how I feel about Greenlee.

Ryan: I'm just having a little bit of trouble seeing things from Greenlee's perspective, that's all.

Madison: Greenlee and I both lied to you, Ryan.

Ryan: For very different reasons.

Madison: I know what it's like to want something so badly that you'll do anything to keep it.

Ryan: Yeah? And you think Scott is really worthy of that?

Madison: There you go again.

Ryan: I'm just simply asking the question, Madison.

Madison: I don't think you realize just how important Scott has become to me. When I tell you he's been there through everything, I mean the whole way -- this pregnancy, deciding what to do about it, you.

Ryan: Me?

Madison: Deciding not to tell you about it, not share it with you -- that was the hardest decision I've ever made. Having him there made it easier. We were friends at first -- and we're still friends, but now it's more than that. It's deeper than that. I depend on Scott and I trust him. I see him struggling to get his life back, and I just want to help him the way that he's helped me. I don't know what you'd call that, but it's the closest thing to a real partnership that I've ever had. This pregnancy's the best thing that's ever happened to me, and having Scott in my life is right up there.

Bianca: Look, you and me could stand here fighting all day, and we would end up in the same place -- you believe my mother is a horrible person.

Krystal: No, I don't. I just think she's Erica Kane!

Bianca: Yeah, I'm her daughter.

Krystal: So that means you defend her no matter what, huh?

Bianca: Would you want your daughter to behave any differently no matter what?

Krystal: Point taken.

Bianca: I better get going.

Krystal: I'll give Jack a call and make sure he's all right.

Bianca: I'm sure he'll be fine.

Krystal: You really believe that?

[Phone rings]

Krystal: Oh. He must've left his phone.

Bianca: I will bring it to him.

Krystal: No, that's ok. I'm gonna drop some things off --

Bianca: No, you do enough for him.

Krystal: What's that supposed to mean?

Bianca: It means I'll handle it.

Caleb: It's a web site for our company, the company that Erica and I run together. Satisfied?

Jack: Caleb, honestly, I don't think either one of us are very satisfied these days.

Caleb: I'm ok.

Jack: Are you? Your business partner -- she takes off without so much as a word, and you're just fine with that?

Caleb: What am I gonna do about it?

Jack: You can register a pulse.

Caleb: Pine away like you? No, thanks.

Jack: Yeah, that would be a hell of a lot easier to believe if I didn't just catch you mooning over that publicity shot of her.

Caleb: Listen. Am I disappointed that she chose you over me? Do I wish that she'd come back and change her mind? Yeah.

Jack: Thanks for the honesty.

Caleb: But I have a business to run, I have a life to live, I've got a son I want to get to know, and I want to keep my sanity.

Jack: Regarding that last issue, I don't suppose you have any insights as to how to do that?

Scott: Here's what I know: You're harassing her, and it's got to stop now.

David: I never realized the two of you were so close.

Scott: Really? I never realized you weren't smart enough to leave when Greenlee asks you to.

David: We were just having a simple conversation.

Scott: Do you want me to have you thrown out of here, because I think I'd really enjoy that.

David: Does that go for you, too?

Greenlee: You can't hear the word "No," David.

David: I do now. Take care.

Greenlee: Thank you.

Scott: Forget it.

Greenlee: No, really, Scott, you may be the only person in the world who understands what I'm going through right now.

Caleb: I feel for you, Jack.

Jack: Thanks, Caleb, but I'm not looking for your sympathy.

Caleb: And it's not sympathy. I'm just observing a fellow human being who's banging his head against a wall. I have been there, I have done it, and it's not gonna stop hurting until you stop doing it.

Jack: That's good advice.

Caleb: Jack, you've been running this game with Erica a lot longer than I have. You should be giving the advice.

Jack: I'll give you some advice. Forget about all this business nonsense and go back to that mountain of yours.

Caleb: I wish. There's a lot to be said for communing with nature and the birds.

Jack: Sure. For one thing, they don't talk back.

Caleb: And it doesn't hurt as much when they fly away either. You know, under different circumstances, you and I would probably go out for a beer.

Greenlee: Ryan can barely look at me. I mean, he barely says anything at all. There's just this silence. I just want to grab him by the shirt and shake him and say, "Get over it. Yes, I screwed up. So what? I'm here now. You want to just throw it all away?"

Scott: Yeah, I wouldn't advise that.

Greenlee: There's only so many times I can apologize. I take it you haven't told Madison yet?

Scott: What am I gonna do? "Oh, hey, honey. Just thought you should know the reason I got so chummy with you in the beginning was because Greenlee sprung me early from prison, so I could be your friend, keep you away from Ryan. Oh, by the way, how is the baby doing?" No, I can't do that.

Greenlee: And you can live with this forever?

Scott: I'm gonna have to. She's been hurt enough.

Greenlee: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've heard plenty about Madison being hurt.

Scott: You were the one who tried to get her to leave town. You lied to your husband about his baby, and yet you were gonna keep pointing the finger at Madison.

Greenlee: Madison made her own choices.

Scott: Not all of them. I hate lying to her right now but not enough to come clean. Last time I owned up to something, it got me sent to prison. All right? Now this time Madison gets caught in the crossfire.

Greenlee: She's no fragile flower. She'd survive.

Scott: I want better for her than that.

Greenlee: For her or for you?

Scott: I am not gonna hurt her because of my stupid mistake, and neither should you.

Greenlee: Protecting Madison is not my priority in all this.

Scott: You know what? Maybe it should be. You think about it. If Madison and I split up, what happens? She goes right back to who she was before -- a pregnant woman carrying Ryan's baby, with no one to take care of her but Ryan.

Ryan: I thought you loved half days at school. What -- hey, Ems, you ok?

Emma: Are you and Greenlee having a fight?

Ryan: We're having a disagreement about something, yeah.

Emma: Is it about me?

Ryan: No, no, no, it's not.

Emma: Are you sure?

Ryan: I know that there's a lot of tension between you and Greenlee lately, but I promise you this has nothing to do with you, ok? It's kind of a grownup thing.

Emma: You sounded really mad. I don't like it when you're mad.

Ryan: Neither do I.

David: It is a beautiful day, don't you think?

Krystal: I have to say I haven't seen you with a spring in your step in a long time.

David: I'm just fascinated with I how quickly a person's fortunes can change.

Krystal: Uh-oh. Hide your kids. Hide your wife. You are up to something.

David: No, I'm just a regular guy trying to make it through this cruel, cruel world.

Krystal: You want to sit down?

David: No. That's ok. You don't seem to have what I'm looking for here.

Krystal: Oh, David, come on. I really do miss the good old days -- when you were in a coma.

David: Heh heh heh.

Caleb: Hey.

David: Hey!

Krystal: Ugh! Well! There are just some people in this world that I do not like.

Caleb: Anyone in particular?

Krystal: Oh, let's see. Maybe my ex, who keeps reminding me of the mistakes I made. And let's not forget your good friend Erica, who's still missing in action and causing a lot of heartache for everybody.

Caleb: Guess who I just ran into.

Krystal: Who?

Caleb: Jack.

Krystal: How is he?

Caleb: Heh. Pining. Believe it or not, he asked me for my advice.

Krystal: Oh, wow. Ok. What'd you tell him?

Caleb: I told him he should just back off, let Erica figure things out for herself.

Krystal: That's what you told him?

Caleb: Yeah. It was just a friendly piece of advice. He can take it or leave it.

Krystal: Sure. Friendly piece of advice -- he backs off, and guess who gets to cut in front.

Caleb: Now, Krystal, let's not be cynical.

Distorted Voice: What are you doing?

Erica: Well, it probably seems silly to you, but I'm still very excited that you brought me my clothes. They're a reminder of Jack.

Distorted Voice: I feel honored, like I'm getting my own private Erica Kane fashion show.

Erica: Well, lucky you. Is lunch coming soon? I'm actually famished.

Distorted Voice: I'll get right on it.

Caleb: Do you really think that I would manipulate Jack in order to get Erica?

Krystal: Yep. I can't believe that somebody like you would do that, considering how much he is suffering.

Caleb: You know me better than that. If I want something, I say that I want it and I go after it. Krystal, not everybody is taking advantage of this situation.

Krystal: Ok. Wait a minute, now. What's that supposed to mean?

Caleb: Since the wedding blew up, you have been hanging all over Jackson.

Krystal: That is not true.

Caleb: Oh, really?

Krystal: Really. Caleb, if I wanted Jackson, I would be pushing you towards Erica. I'm not because I don't want to see Jackson hurt -- not by you, not by Erica -- anyone. Yes, I am his friend, I am sticking by him. Because nobody else understands him like I do and understands what he's going through.

Caleb: Oh, you do?

Krystal: Yes, I do.

Caleb: Really? You trying to convince me or yourself? Coffee's cold.

David: Madison, hey. How are you holding up?

Madison: Don't start with me, David.

David: No, look. Believe it or not, that was genuine concern.

Madison: I'm great. I don't need your concern.

David: You don't have to cover with me. I know the whole story.

Madison: I honestly don't even know what you're talking about.

David: The whole mess with Greenlee and Ryan, how she lied to him? I got to say everyone thought the two of them were gonna finally make it to the finish line, huh?

Madison: I don't know who told you. I don't care. I'm not gonna talk to you about this or anything else.

David: Oh, ok. I get it. You're right. It's been very humiliating to find out what Scott's role was in all this. Can I get an espresso, please?

Madison: What?

David: Yeah, that part of the story's out, too -- how Greenlee got Scott released from prison, so that he would romance you away from Ryan. Wow. Typical Greenlee move, huh? I got to tell you I was very surprised with Scott. I didn't expect that of him. You must've wanted to kill him when you found out.

Scott: Hey. I'm at the hospital, running a little late. I will be there as soon as I can. Bye-bye.

Emma: How are you?

Greenlee: I'm all right.

Emma: Good. Me, too. Ryan, she heard us fighting, and she just wanted to make sure everything was ok.

Greenlee: What did you tell her?

Ryan: I didn't lie to her, if that's what you're asking.

Greenlee: Is this how it's gonna be from now on?

Ryan: This is how it is, Greenlee. I can't change what happened any more than you can.

Greenlee: Ok. Fine. But did you not see Emma right now? She hasn't said three kind words to me since Annie went away, and yet she managed to be nicer to me than you've been.

Ryan: What do you expect me to do, just sort of forget it and move on?

Greenlee: I know I hurt you badly. And I know I have a lot to make up for, and it's not gonna happen overnight. I get that, but this cannot break us, Ryan. As bad as it is, eventually we're gonna have to start repairing what I broke. Let's do it for us and everything we've been through to stay together. Let's do it for Emma, because we're the only stability that little girl has in her life right now. She needs her family, and we're it. Will you at least try? Ryan, will you?

Ryan: Ok.

David: Madison, listen. Look, I know that you and I -- we got off to a rocky start. I know I did some things that I'm not very proud of and, frankly, I regret very much. But this? Wow. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry, ok, and if there's anything I can do --

Madison: Anything that you can do?

David: Right, right. There's really not much, is there? When did you find out about all this?

Madison: What?

David: About Greenlee and Scott hatching their plan to deceive you and Ryan.

Madison: I've known for kind of a while, actually.

David: Really?

Madison: That's right.

David: I have to say I think you're being incredibly brave through all -- and forgiving. Because a betrayal like this, it's so -- personal.

Madison: You're right about that. Excuse me.

David: Yeah. You take care, Madison.

Liza: Did you have something to do with that?

David: A gift fell into my lap today. All I had to do was use it correctly.

Liza: I'm almost afraid to ask what that was.

David: Greenlee and Ryan are going through a rough patch right now. This might very well push them over the edge.

Liza: Why, David, you couldn't possibly still want Greenlee back. She despises you. I really don't understand why -- yes, I do. I understand. If you can't have her, no one can. Is that your motivation again?

David: Maybe something like that.

Greenlee: I can't believe how much Emma's reading.

Ryan: I know. She loves it. Ever since she was little, Annie was writing her those stories, and now she's writing them herself.

Greenlee: I'd love to read them. Maybe she'll become a famous author one day and support us in our old age. Ha ha ha! So have you talked to Kendall?

Ryan: Yeah. I checked in with her this morning, actually.

Greenlee: I've been calling her, and it just goes to voice mail. I hope she's ok.

Ryan: My guy's still watching her. She's safe.

Greenlee: So -- ahem -- how did Emma react when you talked to her about us?

Ryan: She was concerned.

Greenlee: That's something, at least.

Ryan: I'm not sure I would say that's a positive.

Greenlee: It's not a negative. It's a step up from hating me. You know what I think we should do?

Ryan: What?

Greenlee: I think that we should take that trip that we were talking about -- to the lake, just the three of us. What? Did I say something wrong?

Ryan: I know we have to do this. I know we can't throw away everything that we have, but a happy family trip? I can't do it. I can't do that now.

Greenlee: Ryan, wait.

Ryan: I'm just gonna go check in with Kendall, and if Emma asks, I'll be back in time for homework. Ok?

Asher: Hey. What's so funny?

Caleb: For my birthday, you put down the day I came off the mountain.

Asher: I was wondering if you'd catch that.

Caleb: It's one thing to shave off a few years, but come on.

Asher: Heh. I didn't really know when your birthday was, so --

Caleb: It's been a while since I've celebrated it.

Asher: I think you should keep it young on the site, you know?

Caleb: I really don't care about that stuff.

Asher: Come on. I could adjust the photo. Maybe change your hair color, make you bald, give you some baby fat?

Caleb: Like a professional wrestler?

Asher: Yeah. What's so wrong with that? You could call yourself "Caleb Cortlandt: Pine Valley Destroyer."

Caleb: Yeah, I could wear a mask and a cape and a Speedo.

Asher: Yeah, holding a candy cane, sitting on a porcupine. That's an image. So did you ever get a chance to check out Erica's bio?

Caleb: I skimmed it.

Asher: Yeah, you skimmed it.

Caleb: Why is it so hard for you to believe I've moved on?

Asher: Maybe because you're actually a human being -- or at least starting to act like one.

Caleb: Thanks.

Asher: All I'm saying, you can't be into somebody and then just -- bam -- snap out of it. You know? It doesn't work like that.

Caleb: After Erica crashed into the mountain and destroyed my home and everything in it, I thought maybe it was fate that brought her into my life, you know?

Asher: Yeah.

Caleb: But now I'm thinking maybe it didn't have anything to do with Erica at all.

Krystal: Jackson? Are you all right?

Jack: I don't know why I keep coming back here. I don't know what I expect to find. Maybe answers, huh?

Krystal: Oh, Jack.

Jack: Or maybe I just want to catch Erica sneaking back here again without telling anybody, without telling me. Got to be some reason, right?

Krystal: I'm sure there is. But I don't think that drinking is gonna give you the answers that you're looking for.

Jack: You're absolutely right, which is why I poured all that down the sink. No, I need to be able to think very clearly, try to understand what the hell it is I'm doing.

Krystal: And what are you doing?

Jack: I'm loving a woman that keeps running away from me. And I keep waiting for her to change, even though I know through painful experience that she is incapable of that. So I need to be very clear in my mind when I decide what happens next.

Bianca: We're just gonna be here for about an hour or so. The kids just wanted to visit some of their friends at daycare here.

Woman: Not a problem.

Bianca: Thanks. Ok, Spike, honey, why don't you go play with Miranda, Gaby, and Ian.

Spike: I will.

Bianca: Ok. I have to make a couple of phone calls. Oh, no. Uncle Jack's phone -- I forgot to give it to him.

Spike: Can I see it?

Bianca: It's not a toy.

Spike: I know.

Bianca: Ok. All right. Just for a minute, ok? Here. Sit down. You want to take my chair? Help? Oh, got you. All right, stay right there. I'll be right over here, ok?

[Phone rings]

Liza: Congratulations. I think you have another satisfied customer on your misery train.

David: No, Madison's nothing but collateral damage. The real target is Ryan and Greenlee's marriage. Oh, man. This day just keeps getting better and better.

Liza: I would leave it alone while you're ahead.

David: That's not gonna happen. Um, excuse me, guys.

Ryan: What do you want?

David: I'm really happy I ran into the two of you. I think I may have done something that might've been a big mistake.

Greenlee: Madison? Now what's your problem?

Madison: You.

Jack: I was at a jury selection this morning. As you well know, Krystal, that's one of the most important things a trial lawyer does, is find 12 people that he can trust with his client's welfare. I'm usually pretty good at it. I can look at those faces, read those minds. But you want to know what I saw this morning when I looked at those faces? I saw people who had clearly read the tabloids and were thinking in their minds, "Who the hell is this fool in front of us, this guy who's let Erica Kane sweep him under the rug yet again?"

Krystal: Jack, come on, now. No, no, you are not a fool.

Jack: Oh, I don't know about that. I feel like I've spent most of my adult life trying to get this woman to love me, staying when every logical bone in my body has told me to run like hell. And why? Why? She just keeps running.

Krystal: Jack, I am so sorry. I -- I really wish there was something I could do to make things easier for you.

[Kiss]

Spike: Hello?

Erica: Spike? Is that you?

Spike: Spike.

Erica: Ok, honey, Spike, put Jack on the phone.

Spike: He's not here.

Erica: Ok. Ok. Then just put anybody on the phone --

Distorted Voice: Erica!

Erica: Any grownup. I'm in danger, Spike. Do you understand?

Spike: What?

Distorted Voice: Erica, what are you doing?!

Erica: Spike, it's very important. Spike, please. I'm in Pine Valley. I've been kidnapped.

Spike: I miss you.

Erica: I miss you, too, sweetheart, but this is very, very important, Spike. Please, just put somebody on the phone.
