Annie's voice: What happened in your dream?
J.R.'s voice: This.
Annie: Come on, J.R. Hurry up and get here.
J.R.: Erica should've went for a headshot. Yeah. I can't believe I have to some kind of peace with you. Although, I kind of like you like this: Alive, but not a pain in the ass -- helpful, even. Because all the times you tried to take my son away from me, you're gonna help me keep him. You and I, we never liked each other -- hell, we hated each other -- but you need to wake up. You need to wake up for Marissa's sake. She needs you. You and I have put her through enough.
Greenlee: Bianca must still be with the boys. how about some tea? You didn't eat on the plane, and I'm not much of a cook, but I can make you some eggs.
Kendall: You can go.
Greenlee: I'll stay with you until the boys get back.
Kendall: I want you to leave.
Greenlee: But I want to help.
Kendall: You did. You showed me where Zach died. Now I want you to leave me alone.
Asher: I told you I didn't need your help. All you had to do was pay the fine.
Caleb: Actually, it was the fake I.D. That was the big deal.
Asher: I would've handled it.
Caleb: Yes, I'm sure you would have, but I did. No fine, no points.
Asher: Since it's a done deal, thanks.
Caleb: You're welcome.
[Phone rings]
Caleb: Yes? What's she doing there? All right. I'll be right there. I got to go.
Asher: I'm not stopping you.
Caleb: You gonna be here working on the computer?
Asher: Almost done.
Caleb: Thanks.
Liza: So you're threatening me?
Erica: Threatening you? I'm concerned for you, Liza, and what you could lose if you continue to try to paint me as a criminal.
Liza: You committed a crime.
Erica: That's not what this is about. You're jealous of me.
Liza: Excuse me?
Erica: Ever since you fired me at WRCW, I have thrived in the business world. I have two daughters I'm very close to. I'm about to marry the love of my life. Whereas you, on the other hand, don't even have a cat to feed when you go home at night. and as or your career -- well, let's just say it's easier to prove a murder charge when the guy is really dead.
Liza: This has nothing to do with that.
Erica: It has everything to do with that. You are trying to save face by going after me.
Liza: You shot David in the back.
Erica: I saved Ryan's life.
Liza: Or you attempted to murder a man that was making your life miserable.
Erica: Ok, let's just get this through your thick, red head. You will not bully Erica Kane and get away with it. You are so desperate to get the public to forget the fact that you got Greenlee convicted of killing a man who was actually alive and healthy.
Liza: I prosecuted a case from the information at hand.
Erica: Oh, no. You overreached and you were underprepared, and now you're trying to use my celebrity to take everyone's mind off your miserable zero-to-one track record.
Liza: So this whole thing is pointless to tell you that I'm doing my job, right?
Erica: You're doing a miserable job. And just in case you're also confused, I'm not Greenlee. I have teeth, and I will fight with everything I have.
Liza: I'd expect nothing less.
Erica: Expect this -- when I'm through with you, you will be lucky to find a job as a burger flipper in the courthouse cafeteria.
Greenlee: I want to help you, Kendall. That's what we've always done for each other. No matter what's happened between us, when things go wrong, this is where we always end up -- here, the two of us helping each other.
Kendall: You did help. You showed me what I need to see in California.
Greenlee: I hope I did a lot more than that.
Kendall: What do you want from me?
Greenlee: I don't want anything.
Kendall: But you need forgiveness, right?
Greenlee: No, I don't need --
Kendall: I need to do this by myself.
Greenlee: You don't have to do it alone.
Kendall: But I am alone. I have to figure out, I have to find a way how I can walk back into our bedroom and not break into a thousand pieces. I have to find a way and figure out how I'm supposed to be somebody I don't know how to be: A single mother working and waking up every morning without the man who breathed life into this home and into me. I sent him to help you, and now -- I'd like you to leave.
Greenlee: I just wish there was a way I could make this easier for you.
Kendall: You can't. No one can, but especially not you.
Greenlee: I don't want to leave you.
Kendall: You have a husband in the hospital. Maybe you should visit him.
J.R.: You manipulated my mother, tried to keep my son away from me more than once, but I can't write you off as all bad. You saved my father's life. You saved people that I care about. You're the father of two women that I married. Amazing women, your daughters. I was lucky enough to love them both. As much as we've hated each other, I see a lot of myself in you. Both of us, we fight for what we believe in no matter who gets hurt in the process, even if it's someone that we love. You see, I don't want to be you. I want to be a man who honors his relationships. I want to be a father that his son could be proud of. Sorry. I shouldn't be here. I'm sorry about your father. I'm sorry about everything.
Erica: I wonder how many of the residents of our fine city actually know exactly how you were appointed to this job.
Liza: The mayor vouched for me.
Erica: As a favor to her dear friend David Hayward.
Liza: So?
Erica: So what was your experience before you got this job? Getting David Hayward off the hook, so he could commit more crimes. That sounds awfully shady to me, not that I want to make waves.
Liza: No, of course not.
Erica: But the press loves a scandal, and the mayor does not. Exactly what do you think Mayor Blanco would do if my lawyer were to subpoena her in connection with this case?
Liza: Ok. So we just went from threats to blackmail?
Erica: No. I'm talking about collusion. The D.A. and the mayor so completely controlled by and indebted to the man I shot? I think both the press and the court would find that very interesting.
Caleb: Erica? What are you doing?
Liza: I think you need to inform your client that threats against the D.A. won't help her case.
Caleb: She had no attorney present, and you have no right talking to her in the first place.
Liza: She cornered me.
Caleb: You couldn't walk away?
Liza: She was starting a fight.
Caleb: Maybe she's upset about being punished for having saved a man's life.
Liza: Possibly at the expense of another man's life.
Caleb: Why don't we just agree that this conversation never took place, shall we?
Liza: Threats were made.
Caleb: Or I can bring you up on charges of prosecutorial misconduct.
Liza: I think you should keep your client on a tighter leash.
Erica: Bye-bye.
Caleb: You think this is a game? This is not a game. Threatening the D.A.? That's your strategy?
Erica: You're the one who goaded me into fighting.
Caleb: There are rules, Erica, even for you.
Erica: The D.A. is not playing by the rules.
Caleb: If I'm gonna represent you, you've got to do what I say.
Erica: I need to do what's best for me, Caleb. And I want Liza to know what she's up against.
Caleb: So you threaten her?
Erica: No, I did not threaten her. That's the other way around. Liza is trying to use me and my celebrity to make her career, and so I just simply told her that she's wrong.
Caleb: She also happens to be the D.A.
Erica: Then she should act like the D.A. and not come after me with such ridiculous charges.
Caleb: So now you've made it personal. She's gonna come after you with everything she's got.
Erica: Of course, it's personal. I've known Liza for years. I needed to remind her that I have a very impressive arsenal myself, and I'm not afraid to use it.
Caleb: Oh, boy.
Erica: What?
Jack: Thanks for calling me, Caleb. What's going on here?
Caleb: Your fiancée took it upon herself to go after the D.A.
Jack: What does he mean by "go after"?
Erica: Liza is not a smart woman. I had to just spell it out for her.
Jack: I see. Well, you knew this wasn't gonna be boring, right? Did we not have a discussion about antagonizing the D.A.?
Erica: If Liza wants a fight, she will get one. The big question here is, do I have an attorney who can go the distance? Because if not, then I'm gonna have to find an attorney who will represent me and defend me.
Jack: The most challenging client you will ever have.
Caleb: Yeah.
Erica: So?
Caleb: So if I'm gonna represent you, you got to do what I say.
Jack: And you are the soul of optimism.
Caleb: That's it. You got to do what Jack and I tell you to do.
Erica: Well, I'll do my best.
Caleb: No. You got to promise.
Erica: I only make promises I can keep.
Bianca: Hey. You're home. When did you get back?
Kendall: Just now.
Bianca: You were there on the beach where --
Kendall: I was there.
Bianca: Sandra's gonna bring the boys over as soon as the movie's done.
Kendall: Are the boys ok? They asking about Zach?
Bianca: Yeah, they're just fine. Ryan wanted me to tell you he is at Emma's chorus concert in Center City. He'll call you as soon as he gets home.
Kendall: David?
Bianca: Hasn't woken up yet, as far as I know.
Bianca: Did it help being there?
Kendall: Yeah.
Bianca: That doesn't sound very convincing.
Kendall: Oh. Well, I was just on my way out.
Bianca: I'll go with you.
Kendall: It's just an errand. I'll be back before the boys come home.
Bianca: Wait, Kendall. I was wondering if you had a chance to think again about the memorial service.
Kendall: I told you I don't want one.
Bianca: I know, and I understand that, but I really think it could help.
Kendall: I'll be fine.
Bianca: Not just you. Everyone who loved Zach who would like a chance to pay their respects. I'll make all the arrangements.
Kendall: Ok. Fine.
Bianca: I was hoping you'd say that. I spoke with Reverend Torres. He's new in town, but he has done some great work on the Miranda Center, and he would like to meet you, if that's all right.
Kendall: Yeah. Sure.
Bianca: Will you promise me something? That you'll let me help you in any way I can? Please, Kendall, talk to me.
Kendall: I did plenty of talking in California, plenty of screaming and crying.
Bianca: And Greenlee was there for you?
Kendall: I am tired of crying. I have to hang on. I've got to be strong for the boys.
Bianca: You have your family. You don't have to do it alone.
Kendall: Yes, I do.
Greenlee: You know where I just came from? Taking Kendall to the place where Zach's plane went down, knowing she'll never see him again. She blames you, she blames me, and she blames herself. That's what you did to her. That's what you did to her family. How can you look so peaceful?
J.R.: Thank you for allowing me to visit.
Marissa: J.R., wait.
J.R.: If you're upset that I was in the room with your father --
Marissa: No. Why are you here? I thought you were supposed to be in Washington with Annie.
J.R.: It was a business trip.
Marissa: Well, that's what it was last time, too, right?
J.R.: It was just business this time. A.J. called. He's been upset about -- thank you -- about David. He's been confused, so I rushed back here.
Marissa: He thought his grandfather was dead. Then he's alive, and now he's somewhere in between. It's confusing enough for adults. How is he?
J.R.: He's gonna be all right. Our son is one strong little boy.
Marissa: Yeah, he is.
J.R.: I've been exactly where you are -- so angry at my father, I don't even want to see him. Then he ends up in a hospital bed, and there I am at his bedside, begging God for him to live, and still a pissed off part of me thinking that he deserves to be there.
Marissa: You weren't exactly begging God for David's life.
J.R.: No. But I was looking to the future, A.J., and how I don't want to be that kind of dad. I don't want to end up in a hospital and our son feeling the same way we feel about our fathers. What?
Marissa: It's just a side of you I haven't seen in a long time.
J.R.: I've made a lot of mistakes. I've hurt a lot of people. I've hurt you. I've run away from things that I should just deal with. I guess I had a wake-up call.
Marissa: David?
J.R.: I've been thinking, and I completely understand if you don't want to, but Christmas is only three weeks away. I was thinking maybe we could sit down, we could talk about A.J., about the holiday -- everything else, for that matter.
Marissa: Are you kidding? The last time we talked, you threatened me.
J.R.: And I was wrong. We had a great relationship once, and I screwed up, and that's never gonna happen again. But I was hoping that we could put the animosity aside, and we could find a way to make work what we do have for A.J.
Marissa: You got all this from just sitting with my father?
J.R.: Seeing him in there like that made me realize that I got a second chance when my cancer went into remission. I spent so long being angry and making bad decisions. I don't want to live my life like that. That's why I want to talk about it. So like I said, I totally understand if you don't want to, but A.J. misses you.
Marissa: He misses me, because you bribed a judge to take him away from me.
J.R.: I know. I want to make it right. I want to find a way to heal. I want to find a way to make this the best Christmas possible for A.J., and that is on you and me. So what do you say? Meet over at Krystal's for coffee at 3:00?
Marissa: Ok.
J.R.: Thank you. You won't regret it.
Kendall: I'm sorry I'm not grieving the right way.
Bianca: I didn't say that.
Kendall: That's what you're thinking. I'm not crying enough. I'm not leaning on you enough. But if I start to lean on anyone, I might never be able to stand on my own again.
Bianca: You are one of the strongest women I know. Mom would say it's a Kane thing.
Kendall: Spike and Ian need to know that everything is ok, that their world is safe, that they're loved and protected. And even if Dad is gone, I'm here for them, and they can depend on me 100% to care for them.
Erica: Oh, I'm so glad you're home. Hi, honey. So how are you? How was the trip?
Kendall: It helped.
Erica: That's so good. I'm so glad. Uh, so is this Zach's?
Kendall: It's Zach's, yes.
Erica: Is there something we can do for you?
Kendall: I just can't believe that they're actually going to try to get you for attempted murder. Don't they understand that you saved Ryan's life? If you hadn't done what you'd done, I don't know what would've --
Erica: You know something, honey? Between Jackson and Caleb, I am in such good hands. So I really only have one concern, and that's you.
Bianca: Kendall's agreed to have a memorial service for Zach.
Erica: And I know that can't be easy.
Kendall: There's so much pain and despair going on right now, I think we have to focus on something else. I think we need to find a little joy.
Erica: What did you have in mind?
Kendall: It's time to start planning your wedding.
Caleb: Our caseload just went up.
Marissa: Erica?
Caleb: Yeah. It looks like we might have a fight on our hands.
Marissa: So Liza's going to indict her for shooting David?
Caleb: Looks like a real possibility. And I could use your help, unless you don't want to get involved, which I'd understand.
Marissa: No, I want to help. I think that the shooting was justified. If Erica hadn't been there, my father would've killed Ryan.
Caleb: You just came from seeing him?
Marissa: Yeah. There was no change, except maybe in his visitors.
Caleb: Like who?
Marissa: When I got there, J.R. was with him.
Caleb: Really?
Marissa: Yeah. I heard him talking to David, saying how he didn't want to turn out like him.
Caleb: Ha.
Marissa: I know. He wants to meet to, like, talk about A.J. on Christmas.
Caleb: Let me guess. You said --
Marissa: Yes. Ok, just say it. You're disappointed in me?
[Knock on door]
Annie: Who's there?
J.R.: It's room service.
Annie: Are you sure about this? This is such a risk.
J.R.: You did order a hot, powerful man who happens to be crazy about you?
Annie: Yeah, I did.
J.R.: We just have to make this quick.
Annie: What are you talking about? We don't do "quick."
J.R.: I'll make it up to you later. I promise. I just got this date with Marissa.
Annie: No.
Erica: Honey, Jack and I want nothing more than to get married, and we will, but we could wait.
Jack: Your mother's right. We're gonna be spending the rest of our lives together. We'll be together forever, so there's no rush to plan this wedding.
Kendall: "Forever" isn't as long as you think it is.
Erica: Sweetheart, let's just take these days as they come.
Kendall: Until they're taken away from you? Until you don't get any more?
Erica: No. I mean right now let's remember Zach. Let's honor Zach.
Kendall: Please don't ignore your lives. Live them. Plan your wedding. Get married. Love each other every second of every day.
Erica: And we do, honey. We do, and we love you just as much.
Bianca: They'll do it when the time is right, when all these crazy charges about David are dropped.
Kendall: David has taken so much from all of us. We have to stop David from continuing this.
Jack: We will, honey.
Kendall: How do you know that? How? David never stops. He made Greenlee's life hell. He made Ryan's life hell. Zach is dead because of him. David is the one who should be dead, not Zach. David is the one who should pay, not me, not my boys!
Erica: And we do deserve happiness, and we deserve joy, and we will. We won't wait. As soon as we settle my legal problem, then we will plan our wedding.
Kendall: Promise me that you won't wait. You never know -- you don't know it might be too late. Ok, I need to rest.
Erica: Ok.
Annie: I am trying not to overreact about the fact that you have a date with your wife.
J.R.: It's not a "date" date.
Annie: Just a date?
J.R.: To talk about my peacemaking idea, remember?
Annie: And remind her about all the reasons she fell in love with you in the first place?
J.R.: No. Remind her that we were friends first.
Annie: Just how friendly is this going to be?
J.R.: I'm gonna be sincere. This decision on A.J.'s custody case doesn't have to be a battle. I'll try to persuade her to make this amicable. Maybe she'll drop the entire suit altogether, no trial, and that way we'll have an arrangement that everybody could live with.
Annie: And if it works, we could really just be a normal couple?
J.R.: I'm counting on it. I meant what I said, how I feel about you. I don't want to sneak around anymore. I want us to feel free together. I don't want to hide my feelings for you.
Annie: So what if Marissa doesn't buy it?
J.R.: Then I'll push whatever buttons that need to be pushed.
Annie: What about my buttons?
J.R.: Your buttons are a lot more interesting. For example, this neck button --
Annie: Oh.
J.R.: And this shoulder button.
Annie: I like that button.
Marissa: It's not like I suddenly trust J.R. I don't. But there was something about him today. He was different. He was real. I can at least listen to what he has to say, right?
Caleb: Not my business.
Marissa: That's the thing -- J.R. kind of is your business.
Caleb: No, he kind of is not my business. My fight with J.R. has nothing to do with your custody battle. That is something that I promised you and your mother a long time ago that I would stay completely away from.
Marissa: And that's what I like about you. You make a promise, and you keep it. You tell it like it is. That's why I've come to value your opinion on things.
Caleb: I'm all for people working out their differences. But with Junior, he's always got something up his sleeve.
Marissa: I know.
Caleb: You know? As long as you know what you're getting into.
Greenlee: Hi. How was Kendall?
Jack: Honestly? Struggling. I'm glad to see you. It couldn't have been easy going back to the place that Zach died.
Greenlee: It was really hard for me. I can't imagine what it was like for Kendall. If only Ryan and I had just --
Jack: No, don't do that, Greenlee. Come on. It's best that we just do what we can for her. It was a tragedy, but we have to move on, and that'll be the best thing for her.
Greenlee: I thought I broke through to her in California. The minute we got back, she shut down. She sent me away.
Jack: So you have to keep trying, you know? We'll love her and those two boys and just do everything we can for her.
Greenlee: It's hard to do. Every time she sees my face, she's reminded of how Zach died and why.
Jack: It was an accident. What happened to Zach was not your fault, and one day, eventually, Kendall will see that.
Greenlee: Yeah.
Jack: Yeah. So what did you want to see me about?
Greenlee: It's about David. I want a divorce. Right away.
Jack: Sweetheart, that is the best news I've heard all year.
Greenlee: Just tell me it'll be quick and painless.
Jack: Actually, the first thing we have to do is we have to get you separated from David in terms of medical decisions, get you out from under that cloud. Then we'll work on the divorce, get you free from him.
Greenlee: Like an advocate? Like a stranger, someone who doesn't know David?
Jack: Yes. Lucky advocate. Yes, very much like that. The divorce is gonna take a while, but we can move immediately to separate you from David in terms of his medical situation.
Greenlee: No. I want to hold off on finding an advocate. You think I'm crazy?
Jack: No.
Greenlee: It's just --
Jack: You don't have to explain. Let's just focus on the divorce.
Annie: I wish you didn't have to go.
J.R.: I know. But if Marissa doesn't stop her Defcon 10 tactics -- we wouldn't have to be hiding out in hotel rooms or when nobody's looking. I can walk into any restaurant with you on my arm.
Annie: That would be amazing. But what if you just piss her off more?
J.R.: You know how charming I can be.
Annie: Yeah. That's what I'm worried about.
J.R.: I'll be right back.
Annie: Promise?
J.R.: Don't move.
Liza: Greenlee.
Greenlee: Do you still think I tried to kill my husband?
[Kendall sneaks into David's room]
Marissa: Here we are. I'm not really sure why.
J.R.: I really -- I want to find a way that A.J. can spend Christmas with the both of us.
Marissa: He would love that.
J.R.: He's already making his Christmas list. It's three pages long, and trust me, the pages are not short. It's only gonna be a few more years that he's gonna believe in the big man in the red suit.
Marissa: And putting out cookies. He still thinks that Santa Claus doesn't like nuts in his cookies, because you don't like nuts in yours.
J.R.: That's what I'm talking about. It's only gonna be a few more years, then he's gonna be grown up and out of the house. That's why I want to make the most of these years.
Marissa: So do I.
J.R.: Do you remember how sick I was last year?
Marissa: Of course. How could I forget?
J.R.: That's why I really want to make this work. I want to find a way that we can both be happy with the custody arrangements, and all I'm asking is for you to give me that chance.
Erica: I'm really glad that Kendall decided to go ahead with a memorial service for Zach.
Jack: Yeah. Me, too. She may not see it right now, but I think it'll help her heal.
Erica: That's what I'm hoping.
Jack: Kendall was talking about us planning our wedding, but we were talking about a holiday wedding. We don't have the time to do that, do we?
Erica: No, we don't. We've been just so totally involved with all the tragedy.
Jack: We'll work it out.
Erica: I know we will. What Kendall said is true. We should live each day as if it's our last, and we should take every chance we can to tell each other how much we love each other.
Jack: Absolutely. I love you.
Caleb: I'm sorry to interrupt you guys.
Jack: Join us. Please, have a seat. What's on your mind?
Caleb: Just for a moment. Your friend, the D.A., is considering pressing charges against you. If Hayward's condition improves, so does our position. But if it doesn't, then Liza's gonna be under pressure to do something about it, and we have to be prepared.
Liza: David fooled me, too. If I even had a hint -- but you went through hell, and I was a big part of that, and I am sorry.
Greenlee: He didn't care who got tangled up in his plans. All he cared about was getting what he wanted. If people got hurt, they died, it was no big deal to him.
Liza: He loved you. He'd talk about it all the time and how you were the only one that really understood him, and you would be able to save him, make him a better man, if he could just get you to love him again.
Greenlee: David's a very sick man, and no one can save him.
Kendall: I stood on a cliff and threw flowers in the ocean. That was the closest I will ever get to my husband again. But here you are, alive, like you're taking a little cat nap. I want your chest to stop moving, I want your heart to stop beating, and I want you in hell where you belong so this whole thing can be over with. [Pulls the curtain closed, picks up a pillow, and approaches David]
