Kendall: You stayed here all night? Why, Greenlee? Why do you still care about him?

Greenlee: You don't understand. I had to be here.

Kendall: Oh, bull. Stop making excuses. You wanted to be here. You actually have sympathy for him.

Greenlee: No.

Kendall: David is the reason that Zach is gone, and you're here playing nursemaid? The man has no soul. He almost killed Ryan.

Greenlee: I know.

Kendall: My mother had to put a bullet in him to stop him. What will it take to get you to understand what he really is?

Greenlee: I realize what David is.

Kendall: Now. After we all tried to save you from him, after I pushed and pushed. No, no.

Annie: Ah. Erica Kane always makes it interesting.

J.R.: I only wish she killed the bastard.

Annie: You and everybody else in town.

J.R.: Did anyone see you come in?

Annie: No. What's going on? You said it was urgent.

J.R.: Did you, by chance, leave anything here you could wear? A change of clothes?

Annie: I don't think so. Why?

J.R.: Don't worry about it. We'll buy something on the way.

Annie: Am I going somewhere?

J.R.: To D.C., tonight, with me.

Ryan: Hey. Any change?

Greenlee: Not enough to make him wake up.

Ryan: Come on. You need a break.

Greenlee: No, I'm fine. What happened with Erica?

Ryan: Jackson and Caleb got her out on bail.

Greenlee: Is she going to be charged?

Ryan: That's up to Liza. What happened with Kendall?

Greenlee: She's so angry, not that I blame her.

Ryan: Greenlee, you don't owe this guy anything. Ok? You don't owe him a damn thing. And I know you don't want to be here, so -- you don't want to be here, do you?

Greenlee: Of course not. But, legally, I'm still his wife, and that means if there's any medical decisions to be made, I'm the one that has to make them.

Ryan: You got to be able to hand that off to somebody else after everything that he's done.

Greenlee: I hate what he's done to me, and I'll never forgive him, but his life could be in my hands.

Zach's voice: You ready?

Kendall's voice: Yeah.

Bianca: Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you.

Kendall: You didn't.

Bianca: I just came from the courthouse. I thought you'd like to know Mom's out on bail. Between Caleb and Uncle Jack, I'm sure they'll find a way to keep her from being charged. I know there's nothing anyone can do or say that will make this easier for you. But if you could take a little comfort in the fact that everyone who loves you wants to be there for you in any way you need them to be, that you're not alone, maybe that'll help. I know this is the last thing you want to think about right now. But those same people who care so much about you love Zach and are looking for a way to honor him, to remember him, with you and the boys. I was thinking maybe we should start planning a memorial service.

Kendall: No. There will be no memorial service.

Ryan: Just please stop torturing yourself for this bastard, ok, and don't stress about making a life-or-death decision for him.

Greenlee: Somebody has to decide what happens to him.

Ryan: So let it be somebody else. Ok? I'm not trying to diminish what he did, ok, and I'm very grateful for him saving you. I am. He came back on Thanksgiving to take you away against your will.

Greenlee: I'm not saying that what he did wasn't horrible or that he doesn't deserve this.

Ryan: He's a miserable bastard, Greenlee. So as far as I'm concerned, you got to be done with him.

Frankie: I got to give it to you. You got one kick-ass will to survive. The fact you're still breathing after taking a bullet that close to the heart -- of course, that's only probably because it's made of stone.

David's voice: You were in an accident. Everyone thinks you died the night of the accident. You were in an accident. Everyone thinks you died the night of the accident.

Greenlee: You saved my life. I owe you. Neither one of us has ever given up, so why were we thinking of turning and running? We can't do that.

Minister: I now pronounce you husband and wife.

David: I give you my promise -- and that's why it has to end right now -- to be the man who deserves your love -- till the day I die.

Ryan: You're wasting your time, Greenlee. Save your energy and save your concern for somebody that needs it like Kendall right now. She's in hell right now.

Greenlee: You don't think I know that? That it doesn't kill me to see her so broken, knowing that I had a hand in that?

Ryan: Hey, none of this is your fault. Ok?

Greenlee: You know that's not true, and so does Kendall.

Ryan: She needs us. She needs you. She needs you right now more than she's ever needed you.

Bianca: You need closure, Kendall.

Kendall: I need my husband.

Bianca: If I could move heaven and earth to bring Zach back, I would. But I can't. So, sooner or later, you and the boys have to find a way to say good-bye.

Kendall: While half the town is staring at me?

Bianca: People who love Zach will be there to remind you that you are not alone and to help you learn how to live without him.

Kendall: "Help"? "Help"? By sitting through some generic service while everyone says how great my husband is and how much they miss him? No one misses him like I do. No one knew him like I did.

Bianca: This could be a chance to share what you know that other people didn't. To get your feelings out, to express the grief that I know you're trying not to face.

Kendall: I know you're trying to help me, but you could make things a lot easier by backing off and letting me do this my way.

Bianca: Ok.

[Phone rings]

Kendall: It's another telemarketer.

Bianca: Kendall, what's wrong?

Kendall: Zach found this at our beach. I told him I wished that we never left there. If only we hadn't come back here, we could still be there together.

J.R.: You'll meet me at the private airstrip if you need to?

Annie: Did something change?

J.R.: "Change?"

Annie: The custody battle with Marissa. If she finds out you took me away to D.C., of all places, she's gonna fight you even harder to take A.J.

J.R.: I'm sorry. Did you think that this is --

Annie: It's not?

J.R.: It's business. I'm trying to stop Caleb from taking back Cortlandt. I've been on the phone all morning with the S.E.C. rep, Ira Sanders, trying to counter the whole trip that Erica took to D.C.

Annie: And we'll have a better chance if we meet him in person?

J.R.: So you'll go?

Annie: Absolutely.

J.R.: Great. We got to get moving. When can we meet?

Annie: As soon as I can get Emma to her father's.

J.R.: Oh. Make sure you tell Ryan that this is just a business meeting.

Annie: Of course. Of course. I will meet you at the airstrip in half an hour?

J.R.: I'll be waiting. Annie? Thank you. You won't regret it.

[Phone rings]

J.R.: Chandler residence.

Operator: Collect call from United States Penitentiary Lewisburg, inmate Scott Chandler calling. Do you accept the charges?

J.R.: No, I won't accept. [Hangs up]

[Phone rings]

Bianca: Hello? Yes, this is Zach Slater's house. No, I'm not Mrs. -- she is unavailable at the moment. Can I take a message? What is this in regards to? I see. Yes, I'll tell her.

Kendall: Someone was calling for Zach?

Bianca: It was the California State Police. They're assisting in the investigation of the plane crash.

Kendall: What did they say?

Bianca: They found something in the wreckage.

Kendall: Tell me.

Bianca: Zach's overnight bag.

[Knock on door]

Bianca: I'll get it. This is not a good time, Green --

Greenlee: I'm not leaving.

Kendall: What do you want from me?

Bianca: You shouldn't be dropping by without calling --

Greenlee: I'm not going to say "I'm sorry" again, because I know that won't help, but I am going to help you through this. You can try to make me leave as much as you want, you can tell me you hate me and never want to see me again, and I wouldn't blame you, but it won't work. You've been there for me more times than I can count. And a lot of those times I couldn't stand the sight of you, and I let you know that, but you didn't turn away. You stayed right by my side, and I love you for that, just like I loved Zach. Because of that, I'm sticking by you now, whether you like it or not.

Greenlee's voice: And I don't want you to say one thing to appease me and then let your paranoia drive you to do another.

David's voice: I won't.

Greenlee: Because if that happens, if you break that promise, I'll leave you.

David's voice: I saw you in the park with Ryan, laughing, laughing at me. All this time, everything you've done, everything you said, has been one big lie. We're over, you and I. We're finished.

[Monitor beeps rapidly]

Emma: Hi, Daddy!

Ryan: Hey! There's my girl! Ohh!

Annie: I really hope this isn't a bad time.

Ryan: No. I told you it's great. This is perfect. I love spending time with my girl.

Annie: I know, but you have a lot going on right now.

Ryan: Want to see Spike? Yeah? He's upstairs. He's sleeping, but I bet you he's gonna wake up if you run up and see him.

Annie: Excuse me? Aren't you forgetting something, Little Miss Thing? Ooh, I'm gonna miss you so much!

Emma: Mommy, you're only gonna be gone for one night.

Annie: I know, but I'm still gonna -- I'm still allowed to miss you, huh? You -- this is so cute. You make sure that you're good for your daddy. Ok?

Ryan: She's the best. Always, always the best.

Annie: Go see Spike. Love you. I heard Erica got out on bail?

Ryan: Yeah. She's definitely not gonna go to prison for shooting that bastard, that's for sure.

Annie: It sounds like David came really close to taking you out on that roof. My God, Ryan. You must be shaken up.

Ryan: Me? No, I'm fine. I'm ok.

Annie: I hate that I have to leave her, but this kind of couldn't be helped.

Ryan: No, it's fine. You're going to D.C. for business?

Annie: Yeah. Chandler business.

Ryan: Really? So J.R. let you stay in the company? That must mean that he trusts you.

Annie: Yeah, I guess it does. But like Emma said, it's just for one night. I should be back by tomorrow.

Ryan: Take as much time as you need right now. I would love to spend some extra time with Spike and Emma.

Annie: Well, I better be going. But let me know if you need anything, ok?

Ryan: All right. Have a good trip. Ok? Ok.

Ryan: There they are! Wondering when you were gonna wake up.

Emma: He so didn't want to.

Ryan: I bet he didn't. Come here, sleepyhead. Hey, can I talk to you guys for a second? Come sit with me. Ooh, you're so heavy. You had a good nap, huh?

Spike: Yeah.

Emma: He had a dream about Zach.

Spike: Daddy Zach is with the angels.

Ryan: That's right. He is with the angels. Do you know why? Because he was being a very brave man.

Emma: Like a superhero, right?

Ryan: Exactly like a superhero. That's right. He was taking care of the bad guys.

Spike: Who will take care of the bad guys now?

Emma: Daddy will, of course.

Ryan: Come here. Come here. I love you guys.

Kendall: I'm glad you're here.

Greenlee: You are?

Kendall: We just got a phone call from the State Police in California. They've recovered Zach's bag in the wreckage.

Greenlee: I'm so sorry.

Kendall: I don't want to wait for them to send it.

Greenlee: I don't blame you.

Kendall: I want to go to California, to the island where it happened, now.

Bianca: I don't think that is such a good idea.

Kendall: I need to go.

Bianca: Then I'll go with you.

Kendall: No. I need you to stay here for Mom and for the boys. You. You're gonna take me to the beach where you saw Zach's plane go down.

Bianca: Are you sure you wouldn't rather go with me?

Kendall: She knows exactly what happened. She was the last one to see Zach. I need to see it. I need to know.

Greenlee: I'll charter a plane right now.

Bianca: This is gonna be very hard for you. If you want Greenlee --

Kendall: No, I don't want Greenlee. I need Greenlee.

J.R.: By the time we're finished, the S.E.C. is gonna think that Caleb Cortlandt is an ax murderer. So you can stay in this room. I'm gonna be in the one across the hall. Yeah, I know. I know. It looks like the room that we first --

Annie: No, it's not that it looks like the same room, it is the same room, J.R. This is the exact place that we made love.

[Surf sounds]

Kendall: You're remembering, aren't you? Tell me about the last time you saw Zach. Don't leave anything out.

Greenlee: He led us in here. And once he knew that we were safe and settled, he left.

Zach: See you.

Greenlee: Oh. Wait. Zach, you dropped it. It's from Kendall. He didn't tell us what was in it, but the look on his face when he saw it --

Kendall: Where was he?

Greenlee: Here.

Kendall: Where exactly was he when he found it?

Greenlee: I guess he was standing right here.

[Kendall kneels down and touches the sand, crying]

Greenlee: You ok?

Kendall: Take me to the beach now.

Ryan: What are you made of that keeps you breathing? What allows you to continue to cause so many people so much pain? And why do you get to live when so many good people, people like -- I don't even know why I'm asking. I had to talk to my kids about Zach. You know what my daughter said? She said that now that Zach's gone, it's just me that's left to take care of the bad guys. And since you're definitely a bad guy, you and me are gonna spend a lot of time together if you ever pull out of this. Hell, I could probably take care of things right now by pulling out that plug. But that would make me just like you, Hayward. Besides, you know what I really want? If you had one shred of humanity in that deluded heart of yours, I would love for you to just give up.

Kendall: Where?

[On the beach, Greenlee points to a spot in the sky where Zach's plane went down]

J.R.: I hope you know getting this room wasn't personal?

Annie: I do.

J.R.: Nothing on this trip is. It's strictly --

Annie: Business. I know.

J.R.: Good. I took the liberty of setting up the meeting with Sanders. If we're gonna be ready, I got to be on top of my game, and you got to gear up to spin that magic P.R. of yours.

Annie: Yeah. I love that you believe in me enough to do this.

J.R.: Annie, it's more than that. I count on you. A.J. and Chandler -- that's my priority right now. But as soon as that's finished --

Annie: Yeah, that's -- yeah. Let's get to work, shall we? Caleb's never gonna know what hit him. We are going to go back to Pine Valley with a huge win, knowing we did everything we came here to do, and nothing else.

Ryan: You claim to love Greenlee. What you don't even realize is that when you actually love someone purely, you want to give them whatever it is that they want with no sense of self. Just give whatever they need. And what Greenlee needs right now is to be done with you. So if you ever pull out of this, and something tells me that you will, you need to give her that by just walking away and not looking back, Hayward. You saved her once. Save her again. Let her go.

Greenlee: This is Officer Genello.

Ofc. Genello: I'm very sorry for your loss, Ma'am.

Greenlee: And this is Colton Johnson. He was a member of the recovery team.

Colton: My condolences. We pulled this from the water. It's still a little damp.

Greenlee: I'll walk you out.

Kendall's voice: You asked me what it is that I want? This is my answer. I want you, Zach. Always, only you.

J.R.: So we have to make it clear that the Chandler acquisition of Cortlandt Electronics had no connection whatsoever to the nanotech theft that Scott orchestrated. Is everything ok?

Annie: Uh, yeah. It's from my attorney. Scott sent over those divorce papers.

J.R.: Oh. That's probably why he called the house earlier.

Annie: What? Scott called? When?

J.R.: Before we left. I'm sorry I didn't tell you.

Annie: No, you're not.

J.R.: Ok. You're right. I'm not. Because I know if you would've spoke to him, you would've been upset. I'm just trying to protect you.

Annie: It's strange. I remember when I got the divorce papers from Adam, I was in such a bad place in my life that it nearly broke me. But now it's not like that. Sure, I'm really sad it didn't work out with Scott, and I was devastated when he rejected me and turned himself in, but I'm not lost anymore. I may not have the life that I dreamed of having with Scott, but --

J.R.: But you have a lot.

Annie: Yeah. Even though one terrible chapter is ending, I --

J.R.: Still have plenty of possibilities.

Annie: Yeah, I guess I do.

J.R.: When this divorce is final, you'll be free to have whatever life that you want.

Annie: Is it horrible that I'm really excited about that?

J.R.: No, not at all. In fact, it is really exciting.

Ryan: Don't worry. He's still alive.

Frankie: I wasn't worried.

Ryan: He's gonna make it, though, isn't he?

Frankie: No way to predict that outcome at this point.

Frankie: It's weird watching a man who's made life a living hell for you and your family fight to stay alive, knowing if he does make it, he'll be out there again causing more trouble.

Ryan: Believe me, if he makes it, I will personally make sure he does not cause harm to anybody that we care about. The worst part isn't even what he does to us. It's what he makes us do to ourselves.

Frankie: Are you talking about Greenlee?

Ryan: He makes us want him dead and then feel guilty for feeling that. He turns us into somebody we don't even recognize.

Frankie: And we can't let that happen.

Ryan: No, we can't.

Kendall: It's all I have left, my note to him, and now it means nothing because he's gone.

Greenlee: It does mean something.

Kendall: He came to save you.

Greenlee: I know.

Kendall: He came to save you, because of what David did.

Greenlee: Yes.

Kendall: But that's not the only reason.

Greenlee: I don't understand.

Kendall: He came to save you, because I asked him to. He was angry that I kept trying to help you and Ryan. He hated that I kept risking our family and our happiness. After everything that we went through, we were finally together again. We were finally safe. But he loved me. And when I got Ryan's message, I asked him to go for me. This man loved me. This man would have done anything for me. All he wanted was to stay with his wife and with our boys, but I made him. I sent him. I told him to go.

Greenlee: Don't do this.

Kendall: No, I sent him on that plane, and now that plane is at the bottom of the ocean. My Zach, my husband, my love, my everything is at the bottom of the ocean, and what do I have? I have a bag and a note!

Greenlee: You have a lot more than that.

Kendall: You're right. I have pain, and I have emptiness, and I have anger. I have anger at David, I have anger at you and Ryan, but mostly I have anger at myself.

Greenlee: No, Kendall, this is not your fault.

Kendall: Zach was the love of my life! He was the love of my life, and he is gone! He is gone forever because of me! He is dead because of me! [Cries]

Greenlee: This is not your fault, Kendall. Do you hear me? No one made Zach do anything. It is not your fault. Blame David, blame me, but do not blame yourself.

Kendall: I need to say good-bye.

J.R.: Probably should get to bed, huh? Big meeting tomorrow.

Annie: Big meeting. It's gonna be great. You're gonna be great.

J.R.: We're gonna be great.

Annie: Thanks. It means a lot.

J.R.: It means a lot to me, too. And I'll be here bright an early to come get you. I just got to get my jacket.

Annie: Sure. I'll be ready.

J.R.: All right.

Annie: J.R.?

J.R.: Yeah?

Annie: Sleep tight.

J.R.: You, too.

[Knock on door]

J.R.: It's me.

Annie: Did you forget something?

David's voice: It was supposed to be Ryan behind that table today, Greenlee, rotting behind bars for the rest of his life, not you. It was never supposed to be you.

Greenlee: Ryan and I wouldn't be together if it wasn't for your sick plan. So thank you, really, from the bottom of my heart. Everything you did to pull us apart pushed us together.

[Ryan grunts]

[Gunshot]

David: I'm not through with you, Lavery.

Ryan: Greenlee and I are gonna be happy for the rest of our lives, and Kendall is gonna get through this. I promise.

Kendall: Always, only you. I love you, Zach. [Kisses a bouquet and throws it into the ocean]
