Jack: I'm putting my foot down.
Erica: Well, you can put your foot anywhere you like, but the door.
Jack: Bianca, don't do it.
Erica: Bianca, will you please explain to Jackson that I need to be at Fusion?
Jack: Will you please explain to your mother she's already had a setback with her recovery leaving against doctor's orders?
Bianca: Sorry. You're on your own.
Jack: You're a coward.
Bianca: You have to just promise me you'll take it easy.
Erica: I will.
Bianca: She promised.
Jack: You're still a coward.
Bianca: Oh...
Erica: Really, Jack, come on. Get out of my way.
Jack: The only place you're going is right back to that bed.
Erica: Jack, if you think that you're going to bully me around like this, I don't think I like the idea of this engagement at all.
Angie's voice: In some patients, the infection is self-limiting, allowing for full recovery without medical intervention. However, if not self-limiting, permanent damage to the retina will occur... [Sobbing] Resulting in complete blindness.
Jesse: [Sighs] Hey, good morning.
Angie: Morning.
Jesse: What?
Angie: I was just staring at your handsome face.
Jesse: Before you even had your coffee?
Angie: I just want to memorize every inch.
Jesse: How long you been awake?
Angie: A few minutes.
Jesse: You're beautiful, even in the morning, Angela.
Angie: Last night was amazing. I don't think I've ever felt closer to you.
Jesse: What's going on in there?
Amanda: Is this the best burrito you've ever had?
Jake: It is. I love it.
Amanda: Oh, and it's not like I have a shoot, so why not indulge?
Jake: I thought you had a shoot.
Amanda: Well, I did, but I canceled.
Jake: You canceled it? Why did you cancel it?
Amanda: Because it's in Italy and I don't want to be away from you and Trevor.
Jake: Well, accept it. We could all go. Are you kidding me? We grab the little meatball and, andiamo, we go as a family.
David: Good morning. Sorry about that. Didn't see you were so focused.
Greenlee: I'm just working on the Fusion numbers again. I have to figure out a way to head off the SEC, make this investigation go away.
David: It's crazy, huh? After being so brilliant and setting up Erica for cooking the books, we may be the ones cooked, after all.
Greenlee: There has to be a solution.
David: Yeah. I am all for that, especially one that doesn't involve incriminating either one of us.
Greenlee: I'll come up with something.
David: Well, I've got the morning free, so why don't we brainstorm together?
Greenlee: No. Your plans are too dangerous. Just let me focus on the SEC, ok? You just concentrate on making sure no one knows that you were involved in Erica's plane crash.
David: I've got it covered. I'm going to contact the mechanic I paid off, make sure he stays out of town for a while. Damn, I left my phone upstairs.
Greenlee: Ok.
[Knock on door]
Greenlee: What do you want?
Bianca: An answer. Time is running out. The longer Fusion is shut down, the closer we are to shutting its doors for good. The SEC needs to make an arrest. Are you going to turn in David, or not?
Greenlee: How long have you known me, and you haven't figured out that I don't respond to heavy pressure tactics?
Bianca: You have got to make a decision.
Greenlee: When I agreed to work with you and Erica, I didn't agree to roll over and bark every time the Kane women snap their fingers or show up unannounced to harass me, so go back to your mother and tell her I'm figuring out another way out of this mess.
Bianca: I get that this is a little tough for you.
Greenlee: David is my husband.
Bianca: It's not like we're asking you to expose him for sabotaging my mother's plane, although if you were listening to your conscience, he would have done that already.
Greenlee: If this is your way of getting me on board, it's not working.
Bianca: The only way to save Fusion is for someone to take the fall for the embezzlement. You can deny it all you want, but David is the only logical choice. Does he mean so much to you that you'd sacrifice your own company for him?
Angie: I was just thinking how safe I feel in your arms, how nothing can hurt me.
Jesse: Nothing can. Are you sure nothing is wrong?
Angie: Mm-hmm. I'm sure.
[Alarm clock buzzing]
Jesse: Oh, no. Oh... it's back-to-reality time.
Angie: Tell reality to just go away.
Jesse: Go away, reality. Angela wants you to go away.
Angie: I just wish it could always be like this and last night to last forever.
Jesse: Well, I don't know about forever but maybe a little longer, just a little longer.
Jake: Bella, we are all about amore, you and me, you know that? So we go to Rome. What better place to kiss your face off, huh, than Rome and Florence and Venice? Here's what we do. We start at the top. We work our way all the way down the boot. We have lovely wine and pasta all the way, oh, and we have little Trevor. We teach him how to eat spaghetti the Italian way. Come on. It's perfect.
Amanda: You would really take the time off?
Jake: Yeah. Well, it's our family vacation. You make the time.
Amanda: But I know how, you know, out of control things have been at the hospital. I mean, are you sure you have the days?
Jake: Honey, we renewed our vows because we wanted to celebrate our life, our new life, right, so we're going to celebrate that. I mean, we are going to be like other couples with the grind. We'll do the grind, but we're going to cram as much fun in there as humanly possible, you and me, ok, and Trevor. He's gonna become a world traveler before he even hits kindergarten. You kidding me?
Amanda: Well, the only new thing he's experiencing today is the gymbaloo class, so I have to pick him up from the babysitter.
Jake: Ok, honey, but I'm telling you, I want you to call those people, whoever it is that you have to call, and tell them, "Yes. I'm taking the deal. I'm taking that -- " no. Tell them that your man is taking it because wherever you are, I'm right behind you. What do you say?
Amanda: Really?
Jake: Yes, really.
Erica: Jack, as long as the SEC has Fusion under a microscope, our company is in crisis mode. I have to be there. There's no way I can watch from a hospital bed.
Jack: You told Greenlee the best way to get rid of the SEC was to turn David in for embezzlement. Now, if she were to do that, the crisis would be over, and you could convalesce.
Erica: But Greenlee will never do that. She'll never turn David in.
Jack: We can dream, can't we?
Erica: And dreams are so nice, but in the meantime, I have a lot of work to do, so please, Jack, come on. Just let me go do my work.
Jack: Erica, seriously, you're letting this feud with Greenlee get in the way of your recovery.
Erica: And you wouldn't let that happen.
Jack: No, sweetheart. I wouldn't.
Erica: Jack, I did a lot of thinking while I was up on that mountain, a lot of thinking about how I've lived my life and how I want to live my life going forward, and one thing that's never changed and never will is, I will never let a man control me. So what's it going to be?
Jack: Ok.
Erica: Oh, not on your life. You don't really expect me to get in that thing, do you, Jack?
Jack: The art of compromise.
Erica: Ok. Listen to me. If it makes you feel any better, I spoke to Frankie about this, and he's agreed to ok my field trip. When I come back, he's going to examine me. If he says that I have to stay in the hospital to give my body more time to beat the infection, I will, promise.
Jack: You promise?
Erica: I promise, ok, so now will you excuse me?
Jack: One more thing.
Erica: What?
Jack: I am going to stick to you like glue all day, and I don't want to hear how it's controlling or boorish or macho or --
Erica: It's perfect.
Jack: That I'll hear.
Greenlee: You're asking me to choose between David and Fusion. That's not going to happen.
Bianca: So you're ok with losing your company?
Greenlee: I'll keep my company and my husband.
Bianca: David put you in this position.
Greenlee: You don't know what the hell you're talking about. While your mother has done everything she could to take Fusion away from me, David has done nothing but support me. I trust him completely.
Bianca: Do you? Do you really? Planes falling out of the sky. People getting drugged unconscious for standing up to you. This is where you place your trust. You and Kendall have put every bit of who you are into Fusion since day one. I just can't believe your gonna give up a company that is such a huge part of who you are.
Greenlee: I will fight to keep Fusion alive, and I'll do that without sacrificing the man who kept me alive.
Bianca: He's not worth it.
Greenlee: This conversation is over. Thanks.
David: That was interesting.
Greenlee: You heard it.
David: Erica and Bianca want you to flip me, turn me over to the SEC. Why didn't you tell me?
Greenlee: What difference does it make? It's not happening.
David: Was there ever a chance of it happening?
Greenlee: It's not an option. Can we move on?
David: Oh, my God, you were actually considering it. Greenlee, I thought we were together, united, no matter what.
Greenlee: I just found out that you slipped something into Bianca's drink that left her unconscious. I was upset and with good reason. So I didn't instantly say no to turning you in, but today I did. You know, I don't have time to waste discussing this. I got to figure out a way to save my company.
Natalia: You're late, Chief.
Jesse: Yeah. Couldn't be helped.
Natalia: Mayor Blanco stopped by today.
Jesse: Really? What does she have to say?
Natalia: I told her you had a doctor appointment, so she just left.
Jesse: Well, you didn't lie there, daughter. I did have a doctor's appointment, as a matter fact, with the finest doctor in Pine Valley.
Natalia: Ok. Before you let me know something I don't want to know, I just wanted to tell you that she wasn't quite happy that you weren't here.
Jesse: Is that woman ever happy? No word from the NTSB on Erica's plane crash?
Natalia: From my understanding, they're so backed up, they haven't even started examining the wreckage yet.
Jesse: Damn it. Every day we wait is another day that that man Hayward is free to make my wife's life a living hell. Mm! You know what? Saddle up, Detective. I'm sending you down to West Virginia to see what's holding up this investigation.
[Jake sees Angie when she totally loses her vision]
Natalia: I know better than to question a police chief, but you want me to go to the crash site?
Jesse: Absolutely. I need somebody down there I can trust looking over the shoulder of the NTSB, someone who will let them know that there is a lot of interest in this case.
Natalia: Police interest?
Jesse: Yeah. If I have an officer down there, they'd be less likely to chalk this whole thing up as a malfunction or pilot error. Are you in?
Natalia: Yeah. Yeah. Gee, I just don't know how happy Mayor Blanco is going to be.
Jesse: Eh...
Natalia: I mean, think about it. Rookie detective gets pulled off local cases just to go after her favorite donor.
Jesse: I do not give a damn what the mayor says about her budget, her resources, or her jurisdiction. Hayward brought that plane down. He could have killed Erica. I'm gonna prove that so I can finally bring that son of a bitch to justice.
Natalia: Ok. Don't piss off to the chief of police.
Jesse: Trust me, one day, you are going to fall crazy mad in love with somebody, and there will come a time when that somebody smiles at you and says everything is ok, but you'll be able to see that it's not by the eyes, the stress, the pressure, and when you see something like that happening to somebody you love that much, you will do absolutely anything in your power to take that hurt away.
Natalia: Why can't David just cut Angie a break?
Jesse: David is an idiot. He does not understand decent people. He challenges her every decision. He criticizes her while she's saving lives, and Angela, she loves her work so much, she is not about to walk away from this, but if it keeps going like this -- the stress, the pressure -- I'm worried about her. This is why I'm bringing David down.
Natalia: Let's just hope that plane crash gives you what you need to put them away.
Jesse: Mm, I don't know if I can leave it up to hope this time.
Jake: Hi. I'm glad I caught you.
Angie: Oh, Jake --
Jake: I got a kid in here that needs a consultation.
Angie: This isn't a good time.
Jake: She's having an arrhythmia reaction, and I think I know what's wrong with her, but before I go pumping her up full of drugs, I need a second opinion.
Angie: Oh, well, just page the doctor on call.
Jake: There's no doctor on call at the moment, so I just need you right now.
Angie: Well, Dr. Sattler is more than capable.
Jake: Dr. Sattler is not here. I just need you. This is Karen. I really do appreciate this.
Angie: [Sighs] Dr. Martin.
Jake: This is only done a take a second. I need you to check her sinus rhythm, so there's your stethoscope. It's right there on the instrument table. You can't see anything, can you?
Erica: It's so quiet. Up on that mountain, there's no buzz, no -- it's very different.
Jack: It'd be my guess that the fast pace was one of the things you missed the most. I've got sales contracts here.
Erica: Oh, yeah. They're down there. Just wish Greenlee would turn David in, come to her senses.
Greenlee: I came to my senses a long time ago. That's why turning David in, not going to happen. I assume it was your idea to sic Bianca on me this morning.
Erica: I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm going to guess that Bianca still thinks you have a conscience, that she's going to think you might do the right thing.
Greenlee: I am doing the right thing. I'm not turning David in. We need to come up with another plan to save Fusion.
Jack: Even if he's guilty as sin?
Greenlee: I think there's a way we can convince the SEC that there was some clerical error.
Erica: We tried that. It didn't work.
Greenlee: Well, then we try again, and we keep trying until Fusion is open for business.
Jack: Greenlee, the SEC is not gonna settle for anything less than an indictment.
Greenlee: Well, we convince them that no crime has been committed.
Jack: Look. They're not going to be happy until they're leading somebody out in handcuffs, and may I just tell you with no fear of contradiction, it is not going to be Erica.
Greenlee: Then maybe Erica shouldn't have --
Jack: Shouldn't have what, stolen that money? Really? Are you really going to play this that way? We all know that you and David did this.
Greenlee: So is that the next move, you serve me up to the SEC?
Jack: Nobody is suggesting --
Greenlee: I mean, you've always taken Erica's side on everything else. I'm surprised you're not jumping on this. You would keep your fiancée out of prison, your daughter out of your sight, and then Erica would get Fusion.
Jack: Greenlee, I know that you are not really the guilty party here...
Greenlee: Really? That's what you just said.
Jack: That Hayward is responsible for all of this.
Greenlee: I'm not gonna let you pin this on David.
David: It's all right, Greenlee. I've taken care of everything.
Erica: What do you mean by that?
David: I just got off the phone with Agent Bennett. I told him I was ready to cooperate.
Greenlee: What do you mean? What have you done?
David: I told him I was the one responsible for moving the money from the Miranda Center account, that I set up Erica, framed her for it. In short, I confessed.
Greenlee: How could you confess? You can't. You have to undo it. Call the agent and tell him you made a mistake.
David: It's a little late for that.
Jack: It's about time you stepped up and did the right thing.
David: It was clearly the only logical thing to do.
Jack: There's nothing logical about any of this.
Erica: Yes. You admitted what we've known all along, that you're guilty. Why did you confess?
David: To save my wife's company.
Erica: Oh, so now we should treat you like a hero. None of this would be happening if you hadn't framed me in the first place.
David: You know, I expected a bit more gratitude.
Erica: You don't do anything ever unless there's something in it for you.
David: The only thing I want is my wife's happiness.
Erica: You're not exactly the martyr type, David.
David: Well, you're right about that. I have great lawyers. I'm already fighting for a reduced sentence.
Jack: So did you call the National Transportation Safety Board, let them know that you tampered with Erica's plane? I just thought since you are into confessing state of mind --
David: I would never try to kill you, Erica. After everything we've been through, please look me in the eyes and tell me you know that.
Erica: The old David I might have believed, but now I'm not even sure I know who you are anymore, David.
David: We have had our battles, Erica, but we've also fought on the same side -- saving Kendall, protecting Bianca. Now, I have way too much respect and even grudging admiration to want you dead.
Jack: Oh, brother, listen. You can lay it on as thick as you want, but the NTSB's investigation will give us the truth.
David: All right. You know something? Instead of attacking me, I'm surprised you're not pleased. I'm probably going to jail, which gives you more time in Greenlee's ear to convince her to divorce me.
Greenlee: I don't want you to do this. It's too much.
David: I couldn't live with myself, Greenlee, if I just stood by and watched the company that you love, the company that's your life, crumble at your feet.
Natalia: Hey, what did you mean about David Hayward when you said you couldn't leave his getting caught up to hope this time?
Jesse: David Hayward is very slick, like a serpent. We have had airtight cases against this man, and I mean airtight, and every time, he has managed to slither out of them. This has to stop. Whatever we can get on him in connection to Erica's plane crash has got to stick.
Natalia: If it doesn't?
Jesse: Not even letting myself go there.
Natalia: You wouldn't take matters into your own hands, would you?
Jesse: Now, why would I do that? If I wanted to slam David's ass into prison for the rest of his unnatural life, all I have to do is send my best detective.
Natalia: You mean your favorite detective, who also just happens to be yo' daughter.
Jesse: I am sending you because the chances of the evidence pointing to David are better with your eyes on it. You know how this man works, what his M.O. is. You might even be able to pick up on something that those fly boys down there miss.
Natalia: Oh, thanks for the confidence. Hope I can live up to it.
Jesse: Well, you already have, Detective. Have I told you in the last hour how proud I am of you?
Natalia: I had a little help. My dad is the chief of police.
Jesse: Uh-uh. No. You did all of this on your own, sweetheart -- the dedication, the studying. Kidding me? You did everything right. I'm sure your mother is bragging all over the heavens about you right now.
Natalia: I miss her.
Jesse: Come here. I love you so much. Mm. See now, this is why Hayward cannot beat us. I don't give a damn how smart he thinks he is or what deal he's got working with what devil. He doesn't have this -- us, family.
Angie: That was a cruel trick.
Jake: Well, if you're going to keep pretending nothing is wrong, I don't really have a choice, do I?
Angie: My vision has just been a little blurry. That's all.
Jake: Then get some glasses or a prescription. I mean, come on. Everybody ends up getting cheaters now and then or eventually in their life. What's the big deal? You don't have to hide it unless there's something more to it. Ange?
Angie: It's not simple vision degradation. It's periods of total vision loss.
Jake: Well, do you have any idea what it is?
Angie: Endophthalmitis.
Jake: That's very, very rare.
Angie: Yeah. I've only come across it once, and my best guess is fungal.
Jake: Symptoms?
Angie: Um, blurred vision, periods of dizziness, disorientation. It's intraocular, so it's not contagious.
Jake: Any idea how you contracted it?
Angie: There was a boy that was brought in a few weeks ago. He'd fallen off his bike, and I treated him. He was bleeding, and I didn't have on gloves. I must have rubbed my eyes.
Jake: Clinical studies?
Angie: None with much success.
Jake: Prognosis?
Angie: I could lose my eyesight permanently. It attacks and destroys intraocular tissues.
Jake: So it's progressive.
Angie: In most cases. It's also unpredictable, and the more it attacks the tissues, the more the bouts of disorientation and blurred vision become more frequent and longer in duration until there is permanent loss of sight.
Jake: Ok. Listen to me. We are going to deal with this, ok? We're gonna figure it out.
Jesse: There you are. Listen. I accidentally picked up your phone this morning, figured you might need it.
Angie: Oh, thank you.
Jesse: So is everything ok?
Angie: Ah, couldn't be better.
Greenlee: You shouldn't have done this.
David: I didn't see any other way.
Greenlee: You should've run it by me.
David: You would've said no. I owed you for what I did to Erica's plane.
Greenlee: That wasn't your fault.
David: Oh, Greenlee, come on. You've been miserable -- the fear, the worry, the guilt.
Greenlee: Great, great. Now I can experience those while you're in prison.
David: No. I don't think I'm going to go to prison.
Greenlee: If you're planning on making a deal, there won't be any. Agent Bennett was very clear that SEC is going for blood. They want to make an example of whoever did this. There'll be no bargaining, no plea agreement. They want the maximum sentence.
David: Ok. Don't worry about anything, ok?
Greenlee: Are you kidding me? You're making a huge sacrifice for me. You know, I've been completely wrong about you. I was so angry at you for drugging Bianca, and then you turn around and do something so -- I don't believe I'm gonna say this -- noble.
David: Look. I told you that I would do anything for you. Well, now you can shine. You're gonna prove that I made the right decision, and you're gonna bring Fusion right back to the top.
Greenlee: David, you're risking your entire future to save me. You're gambling years of your life.
David: Ok. You know, it might not even come to that, ok, but if it does, I'll deal with it, but for now, I bought you some time, so while I'm negotiating with the prosecutor, I want you to get Erica out of Fusion, and you take this company. You reclaim it as your own. That's all.
Greenlee: I don't know whether to kiss you, yell at you, laugh, cry.
David: Well, a kiss would be nice. [Kisses] Mm. Do you remember when your testimony got me acquitted? We went back home, and we celebrated. I told you that I would give you anything you want.
Greenlee: Yeah. Well, this is way more than a pink champagne bubble bath.
David: I promised you that I would give you the world in a bow. Well, maybe I can't give you that right now, but at least I can give you what you truly love -- Fusion. [Kiss]
[Elevator door opens]
Greenlee: Oh...
David: It's going to be fine.
Greenlee: I hate this.
David: Yeah. Look. I have to go see my attorney, ok? It's gonna work out, all of it.
[Elevator door closes]
Jack: Listen, honey. If you're worried about David, this confession of his, what his agenda might really be --
Erica: No. I'm thinking about Fusion. I'm thinking that the only reason I even got involved with this company is because I wanted to help Kendall. It was supposed to be temporary, just to keep it intact for her, you know, just to represent her interests until she could come back.
Jack: And now?
Erica: And now I feel like it's become my life -- making it a success, protecting it from Greenlee -- and at some point, it has consumed me, Jack, and I don't want that.
Jack: Are you willing to let Fusion go?
Erica: Somehow, I've just gotten so caught up in the day-to-day of this company, of making it the best, doing whatever it takes so that when Kendall returns, it's not just in good shape. It's in better shape.
Jack: That's very admirable. It's also very Erica.
Erica: Well, is it the right decision? I feel like I'm giving up my life to give Fusion life, and there's so much more that I want to do, so many other opportunities that have been put aside. I mean, when I was up in that mountainside, I just got a lot of time to think, and there's so much more that I want to do. I want to be open to challenges that come along.
Jack: What happened to you up there?
[Cell phone rings]
Jack: Excuse me.
Erica: [Sighs] What is it?
Jack: My assistant. She got a call from Doc Waller in Pigeon Hollow. Evidently, he's sent us some instructions from Palmer.
Angie: Jake and I were just trying to figure out how to treat a patient. Baby, could you give us a moment?
Jesse: Sure. I'll make some phone calls.
Jake: You haven't told Jesse.
Angie: No one knows, except you, and that's how it's going to stay.
Jake: Really? No. You need to tell your husband. You need to tell your husband because you need support.
Angie: Look. It's a lot more complicated than that. The reason that I wasn't wearing sterile gloves and the reason that I had to race in and treat that boy in the first place is because of this staff cuts, David's cuts.
Jake: Well, David is the son of a bitch. We all know that.
Angie: Look. I made the choices. I can't just blame him.
Jake: Well, I can. I can.
Angie: And so can Jesse. Jake, Jesse is so close to finally nailing David with something legal. Now, if this case is solid, he will be out of this hospital and out of our lives.
Jake: All right. Look. Let's just get back to you. So you want to just keep on doing this? You want to keep hiding your blindness? I don't think that's right. I don't think it's right. I don't think it's fair to you, to your patients, to nobody.
Angie: I would never put our patients at risk.
Jake: No. Of course, you wouldn't, not intentionally, I mean, but there's no guarantees, right? There's no guarantees.
Angie: Jake, I just need some time. Please.
Jake: You're kidding me, right?
Jesse: Hey, H2O for the lady.
Angie: Thank you.
Jesse: So, Jake, how are the wife and kid?
Jake: The wife and kid are great. They're great, really great. Yeah.
Jesse: Couple lucky guys, we are.
Jake: We are, very lucky. You take care of her.
Jesse: It's what I do.
Angie: Ah, thank you, baby. I love you so much.
Jesse: Just a cup of water.
Angie: I know.
Bianca: Is it true? David is confessing?
Greenlee: News travels fast.
Bianca: I just ran into him downstairs. He's not exactly the type to sacrifice himself, so this is amazing, the first admirable thing he's done in a long time.
Greenlee: David wants to save Fusion.
Bianca: He's doing it for you.
Greenlee: This may come as a surprise, but David has a heart.
Bianca: So do you. Maybe there's hope for you two after all.
David: Sorry I'm late.
Bennett: I'm sure it won't happen again.
David: Did everything work ok?
Bennett: The payment cleared my Cayman Island account.
David: Good. I told my wife and the others at Fusion that I confessed. Greenlee is never to know about our little arrangement.
Bennett: You want her to think you're her hero. No problem.
David: Just so we're clear, that money in your account, it guarantees minimal charges against me. Am I right?
Bennett: That's right.
David: Good, because I wouldn't put my neck on the line otherwise, and you wouldn't be getting nearly as rich.
Bennett: When will I get the balance?
David: When the SEC case against me is closed, and I'm a free man to be with my wife.
Jack: So the reading of Palmer's will is to be tomorrow, and Doc Waller is sending a list of those who should be in attendance.
Bianca: Who's going to be there?
Jack: I won't be at liberty to say.
Erica: Well, that's Palmer, still in complete control.
Jack: I suspect this is going to be quite a show.
Erica: If I know Palmer, Pine Valley is in for a big surprise.
