[Music plays at the Yacht Club]
Annie: Helping others has been my life, and I was involved in several charitable causes before I even met Adam Chandler. And, well, now that I'm at Scott's side --
Gloria: So you and Scott --
Annie: We're inseparable. And now that he's the head of Chandler, we are really gonna do amazing things together. So that's why I think I would be an excellent candidate for the junior chair of your committee.
Gloria: I'm sorry. That position's already been filled by Marissa Chandler.
Annie: Marissa? You gave it to Marissa? Why? Marissa doesn't want it. Marissa wants to be a lawyer. She doesn't even know anything about all this kind of stuff. Why would you --
J.R.: Gloria.
Gloria: J.R.
J.R.: Nice to see you.
Singer: I need somebody less complicated
J.R.: Something wrong, Annie?
Scott: That doesn't look like good news.
Marissa: I'm just reading about Erica's disappearance. There's speculation that she could be dead.
Scott: How is it no one knew about the plane crash until now?
Marissa: She went down in the mountains of West Virginia.
Scott: What was she doing there?
Marissa: Personal business, something to do with Palmer Cortlandt's estate. "Palmer had specifically requested that upon his death, Erica was to go to the town where he was born and get instructions regarding his will."
Greenlee: You know, you don't have to be here.
David: I want to be.
Greenlee: You're worried I'm gonna say the wrong thing about Erica.
David: No. No, of course not. I'm here for moral support, and I love seeing you do what you do best.
Greenlee: Hey, guys. We need to talk. Ok, I don't have to tell you that Fusion is in a very tenuous position. Between allegations of Erica's financial misconduct and her disappearance, we've taken a huge P.R. hit, losing a significant customer base and revenue, so we have to pull it together. We have to brainstorm how to spend Fusion's quality and strength, and then get the public to focus on the product, not on --
Madison: Erica's possible death?
Greenlee: Excuse me?
Madison: I'm sorry, but Erica could be dead or dying in some wilderness, and all you care about is the P.R. angle?
Krystal: All right, maybe -- maybe we should go back down the river and look further downstream.
Jack: No, Krystal, the rangers dropped us off here because that area's already been searched.
Krystal: So we just keep going?
Jack: Yeah. Nowhere but up, it looks like to me.
Krystal: You know what? That makes sense, but we just don't have a whole lot of daylight left.
Jack: So what are we wasting time for?
Erica: Put me down! Agh! Put me down! Put me down now! God!
Caleb: That better? Jeez.
Erica: You can't keep me here. You can't hold me here against my will.
Caleb: Oh, you don't have much choices.
Erica: What are you gonna do to me?
[Caleb sighs]
Erica: You gonna torture me just because I found some woman's locket you don't want to talk about?
Caleb: Leave it alone.
Erica: Then what are you gonna do? You gonna kill me and bury me in the woods? Help!
Caleb: Scream all you want. Nobody can hear you.
Erica: Help me! Please help me! I never should've trusted you. You weren't helping me, you were just playing me. You were trying to convince me that I needed you to get me off the mountain! Agh.
Caleb: You didn't do very well by yourself, did you? I pointed the way down. You'd be halfway there now if you hadn't stopped to make a scene, lecture me about the real world.
Erica: What do you plan to do with me? Whose locket was that? What happened to her?
Caleb: You ask way too many questions.
Erica: I'm not going down without a fight.
Caleb: Well, you're definitely gonna die, but not quite yet.
Erica: Ugh! No, don't. Leave me alone. Don't touch me! Stop it, Caleb! Stop it! What are you doing to me?! Stop --
Caleb: Stop fighting me.
Erica: I will never, never stop fighting you! What are you doing?! Ohh! Ohh! Ohh!
[Caleb pours alcohol on Erica's ankle wound]
Krystal: Jackson, as eager as we are to find Erica, I don't think it would be too silly of an idea to just rest, you know? Wait until the morning. Let's just get a good jump on the day tomorrow when there's lots of light.
Jack: You know what, Krystal? If you don't think you can do this, why don't I call the ranger? They can come and get you and take you home. How would that be? I'm sorry. That was totally uncalled for.
Krystal: It's ok. It's all right.
Jack: No, it's not, because I really do appreciate you being here. I do. It's just we have wasted so much time already -- days, weeks -- and now I'm worried about every minute. Oh, my God, I hope I can find her in time.
Krystal: Jack, if anyone can find Erica, you can. Because all the search teams, all the bloodhounds -- they don't have what you have. You got a connection.
Jack: Last time I saw Erica, I told her I would wait for her. I just hope I haven't waited too long.
Krystal: You came as soon as you found out.
Jack: As soon as I found out, yeah. But my daughter -- she knew for weeks, didn't say a word.
Krystal: Whew. Just deal with that when you find Erica, and she's home safe.
Jack: Yeah, great. What if Erica's dead? What if Erica's gone? I can't live with myself.
Krystal: And if Greenlee caused Erica's crash --
Jack: If Greenlee caused Erica's crash, then I'm gonna lose both of them, aren't I?
Greenlee: It would really help if you could lose the attitude. We called this meeting to discuss Fusion.
David: We're all worried about Erica, no one more so than Greenlee.
Madison: If this is a business meeting, what are you doing here?
David: I'm here to offer my wife support.
Greenlee: It's ok, David.
David: This is a difficult time for everyone, admittedly. A friend, a colleague has gone missing, perhaps killed in some horrible accident.
Randi: Wait. You think that Erica's dead?
David: I hope to God that she's alive and well. All I'm saying is that we're all very sensitive to this situation. But I do believe that we should be more supportive of one another during this difficult time, that's all.
Greenlee: But it also means that we should not ignore this company. We need to find the strength to separate the professional from the personal, which is exactly what Erica would do.
Randi: Which is what Kendall did when we thought you were gone: Business as usual.
Greenlee: Exactly. Fusion's taken a lot of hits, and we've survived a lot worse than this, which means we can keep going. But we're at a tipping point here. We have a lot of hard decisions to make. Do we delay Erica's line indefinitely, or do we scrap it and take the loss?
Madison: You're talking like she's already dead.
Greenlee: I'm trying to make a rational decision to save this company, my company. Fusion is the top priority, and I'm going to fight like hell to keep it alive.
Madison: Would you do the same thing for Erica?
Scott: Why would Erica be dealing with Palmer's estate?
Marissa: I don't know. I guess he and Erica were pretty close. Nobody knew that this will in West Virginia existed, but Palmer updated it not long before he died.
[Scott imagines a conversation with Jack]
Jack: I wonder what it says. I wonder if it tells the world that you took advantage of a dying old man. That you befriended him, got him to trust you. Got him to tell you his dreams, the plan for those dreams. And then when Palmer died, you stole the idea behind that plan, behind those dreams. You passed it off as your own. You picked the pocket of Palmer's heirs: Opal, Pete. They could've had all this, but you stole it. Why, Scott? What would your father think? Why would you do a thing like this? You're supposed to be one of the good guys. Why would you steal like this?
Scott: Because it's my turn, Jack. Because I can do great things at Chandler. I can make a difference. And I can have the life that I have always wanted, a life that I deserve.
Jack: And what life would that be?
Scott: A life with Annie.
Jack: I hope it's worth it.
Marissa: Scott?
Scott: What?
Marissa: What did you just say?
Scott: Nothing. Nothing. I'm sorry. I was -- ahem -- I was just thinking out loud.
Annie: Would you excuse us for a moment? Go away.
J.R.: Nice dress. You attending church after this?
Annie: I am trying to do some good in the world. I'm trying to help others.
J.R.: You mean you're trying to paint yourself as the benevolent matriarch of the Chandler family.
Annie: I am with Scott now. Scott is the head of the company now. So that makes me --
J.R.: Hungry for more power and recognition?
Annie: This scares you, doesn't it, me being a part of your world?
J.R.: Why would that be scary?
Annie: Because of what happened between us the other night in the hotel room.
J.R.: Nothing happened.
Annie: You tried to get between me and Scott. You were trying to cause trouble between us. You wanted me to admit that I want you more.
J.R.: I don't care who you want to be with, Annie.
Annie: Well, your plan backfired, didn't it? Because you kissed me and you felt something that you weren't expecting to feel, and suddenly you couldn't stop yourself.
J.R.: And you have this delusional idea that you and Scott are the new power couple in town. That's a lie. It's a lie that he's in control, and it's an even bigger lie that you love him.
Erica: What is it?!
Caleb: It will stop the infection. [Grumbles]
Erica: Ow. I want you to let me out of here. Please, just step aside and let me walk out. I promise I won't bother you. I swear I won't tell anybody that you're here.
Caleb: Well, it's a little late for that, isn't it? Huh? I mean, I never bothered anybody, nobody bothered me, and then you came along. And that real world that you are so infatuated with, it never infected my existence.
Erica: "Infected"?
Caleb: You think that you can just walk out of here, and I can go back to the way it was? Is that what you think?
Erica: Of course, you could.
Caleb: You don't have a clue, do you? You think you can just waltz in here, destroy somebody's life, and then just walk away?
Greenlee: Madison, I understand your concern about Erica, but our job now is to show the public that we're still Fusion.
Madison: Ok, well, here's an idea. Instead of showering the public with how fabulous Fusion is, why don't we take our time and energy and do something, really do something, about the situation.
Greenlee: That's what we're trying to do.
Madison: No, I mean do something real like go to West Virginia, help look for Erica, make that difference, maybe even save her life.
David: All right, you know what? Being combative is not being productive.
Madison: You know, I still don't know why you're here.
Greenlee: Saving Erica is your only suggestion?
Madison: When I was at my low point, I didn't know what to do, and Erica decided that I wasn't a lost cause. She put me back on my feet. She gave me confidence. So if there's anything at all that I can do for her, that I can help her with, I'm going to do it.
Greenlee: Hmm. That's fascinating, really, since throughout the entire Fusion competition you work for me, not her.
Madison: Yes. But when you were gone, Erica inspired us, kept up morale, kept Fusion going. If it hadn't been for Erica --
Greenlee: Again, Fusion isn't Erica's company, it's mine. But since you feel so indebted to her on so many levels, go look for her, because you're fired.
Annie: You know nothing about my relationship with Scott.
J.R.: I know this. I can walk up to any one of those fancy women you're so desperate to be accepted by, and I could tell them stories about you that'd make their wigs flip. You wouldn't be allowed within five miles of their events. You would not be accepted.
Gloria: May we take a picture for our web site?
Annie: Sure.
J.R.: Yeah. Our pleasure.
Annie: Yeah.
Gloria: Ok. Move a little closer together.
J.R.: Ahem.
Gloria: Ok. I'll have a proof set to you later today.
Annie: Great. Lovely. I can't wait. Why can't you just let me have this?
J.R.: Because it doesn't belong to you.
Annie: Why not? Why not me?
J.R.: Do you really want me to answer that, Annie?
Annie: I know I have done some terrible things in my life, ok, but I have also suffered, and so has Emma. And now I am really trying. I want to be a good partner to Scott. I want to help people. And yes, yes, I want to fit into this world that I used to only dream about. And you would know nothing about that, because you've been handed everything since you were born.
J.R.: Is that what you think, being Adam Chandler's son was easy?
Annie: I think you've made it harder on yourself than it had to be.
J.R.: Oh, yeah, right.
Annie: Just think about it, really, really think about it. Let's be honest with ourselves. A woman like Marissa, she doesn't think like you do. She doesn't think like I do. She is never gonna get over this betrayal.
J.R.: Yes, she will, because I won't give up. I won't fail A.J. Not again.
Annie: "Again"? What, are you talking about Babe?
J.R.: I'm not discussing this with you.
Annie: You still blame yourself for Babe's death?
J.R.: I was her husband. I let her down. It's not gonna happen this time.
Annie: Maybe it already has.
J.R.: No, because my marriage is gonna be saved. You're gonna help.
Annie: "Help"? How am I gonna do that?
J.R.: I don't know. Sometimes I think it's best we just get it out of our system one last time.
Annie: Are you saying we should sleep together? Have you lost your mind?
J.R.: Probably.
Annie: What, you think we can solve all of our problems by hopping in the sack one more time?
J.R.: I'm not saying that's what we should do. I'm just saying --
Annie: What? What? What are you saying?
J.R.: I'm saying I have too much going on in my life right now to have you in my head. I have to deal with Scott's incompetence at Chandler. I have a marriage that I'm trying to rebuild. I almost died a few months ago. So why are you still here? Why can't I get you out of my head?
Annie: You talk about me like I'm toxic or something.
J.R.: You are. You're just a physical craving like any other.
Annie: What, and the craving's gonna go away by just one more time together?
Singer: All these little secrets that I hide
Annie: This -- this is insane. This is crazy. Why am I even considering this?
J.R.: Are you?
Annie: No, no. I -- I don't even know if you're being serious right now. Are you?
Singer: Little secrets
[Phone rings]
Singer: That I hide
Annie: It's Scott. Please go away.
[Ring]
Annie: Hey. I was just thinking about you. What's up?
Scott: I just wanted to hear your voice. Anything exciting going on?
Annie: Um, well, there could be something exciting going on. We never got to really have our night the other night. Um, so I thought maybe we could give it another try?
Scott: Same hotel?
Annie: Is that a yes?
Scott: I'm on my way.
Singer: Or keep them locked inside I've come so close to telling you a thousand times 'bout all these little secrets that I hide
Marissa: Hey, you. I thought you were at the office. What are you doing here?
Greenlee: Your keys to the office? And don't bother to come back for your things. We'll send them to you.
Madison: Are you firing me because of my concern for Erica, or is it something else?
Greenlee: Haven't you made enough of a scene already?
Madison: Is it my personal life, my relationship with Ryan?
Greenlee: I don't give a damn what you do outside this office.
Madison: Good. Because whatever happens between me and Ryan is none of your business.
David: You ok?
Greenlee: Of course, I am. The last thing this company needs is someone who doesn't know how to be a team player. You want to talk about Erica?
[Randi shakes her head "No."]
Jack: How could I not see what Greenlee was up to?
Krystal: Jackson, I'm not giving your daughter a pass or anything, but we both know she's married to the devil. And I am a veteran of that particular hell.
Jack: Every day. Every day I feel like I'm losing more of her to that son of a bitch.
Krystal: But David and Greenlee -- you can deal with that when you get back home. Right now, right here, we got to keep moving.
Jack: You're absolutely right. Thank you. Krystal.
Krystal: What?
[Jack holds up a seat belt]
Erica: Look, I'm sorry if I ruined your life, and I've told you that. But I have to go now.
Caleb: Well, you're not going. You need more medicine. Now, drink up. You're gonna drink one way or the other.
Erica: Hey, hey -- no, no! Pfft! That is alcohol! What did you do to me? I'm a recovering addict! I haven't had a drink in five years! Damn it, if I have a drink, I might as well have died in the plane crash!
Caleb: Water. Go ahead. If I'd known you were an addict, I wouldn't have let you chug it.
Erica: I didn't chug it. I don't know how you can drink something so vile.
Caleb: "Vile"? That's best batch I ever made.
Erica: You just wanted me to get drunk.
Caleb: Oh, don't flatter yourself.
Erica: What's the matter? You can't handle it -- big, strong survivalist like you?
Caleb: You're making it worse.
Erica: Hey! Stop -- leave -- don't touch it. Leave me alone. Leave it alone.
Caleb: I'll leave you alone.
Erica: I will fix it.
Caleb: Fix it.
Erica: I'll get past this pain. I'll survive the pain, and I will survive you.
Caleb: You may not have noticed, but nobody's coming for you. I'm all you got.
Jack: Ok. So let's look at what we know here, ok? Erica wasn't in the plane, so that's a good sign, right? That means she probably walked away, right?
Krystal: Yeah. That seems logical.
Jack: So there's got to be something around here to let us know if that's true or not. Let's keep looking.
Jack: Krystal, come here. It's hers. That's her scarf.
Krystal: Jack, listen. You said yourself no body means that Erica could very well have walked out of here on her own power.
Jack: Where? Where would she go? This terrain, these miserable storms -- where -- it cannot end like this.
Krystal: Hey, wait. Wait, wait, wait. Is that smoke? Someone's up there, someone alive enough to build a fire. Come on.
Jack: Let's go.
Greenlee: Ok, from here on in, all Fusion advertising and P.R. will no longer feature Erica's name or likeness. I know. I know it's cold and it's drastic, and I'm sorry, but with the S.E.C. investigation and Erica's disappearance, there's no upside to having her associated with Fusion. Are we all clear?
Randi: Yes.
Greenlee: Any questions?
Randi: No.
Greenlee: Good. We're in survival mode, and I can't do this without you.
Randi: Whatever you need. Thank you for being on board with this. I know it's not easy.
[Greenlee sighs]
David: You did great, everything you needed to do.
Greenlee: If there's a hell, I'm going there.
J.R.: Missed you at the meeting.
Marissa: Yeah, sorry. I got caught up studying. At least, you were here.
J.R.: Decided I'd swing by, show some Chandler presence. What are you doing here?
Marissa: I wanted to sign A.J. up for the tadpole swim team.
J.R.: I was just headed over there.
Marissa: Really?
J.R.: Yeah.
Marissa: The swim meets are every Wednesday night. Are you gonna be free?
J.R.: As far as I know. Sounds like a great family night. What?
Marissa: This. You. You really want to make this work, our family.
J.R.: More than anything. I'll prove to you that we can be a family again.
Marissa: God, you don't know what it means to hear that with all my father's craziness, the lies, rumors that he's involved in Erica's disappearance, to have a man in my life that I can count on, who says I can trust him and means it -- thank you.
J.R.: Yeah. Come on.
Scott: [Kissing Annie in hotel room] Hey. I am not J.R. I won't use you, and I will never hurt you. I love you, Annie, and I have loved you from the moment that we first met. Do you remember your first words to me? You told me how sorry you were that my father died. You looked into my eyes and you spoke, and I saw your heart. I have never forgotten that moment. I have wanted you all this time, Annie.
Greenlee: Was I wrong to fire Madison?
David: You did what you thought best.
Greenlee: Non-answer.
David: You need to surround yourself with people you trust 100%.
Greenlee: Yeah, I do.
David: Mm-hmm.
Greenlee: It's not like she says. It's not because of Ryan.
David: I know that.
Greenlee: I could really use a drink.
David: No kidding. Why don't I take you downstairs to ConFusion?
Greenlee: No, no. There's got to be something around here somewhere.
[David stares at a picture of Erica]
Greenlee: Ohh. Val really needs to find a better hiding place for the good stuff.
David: Ah, champagne?
Greenlee: Yeah, I know. Not keep in with the mood, but it's all we have. Thank you for being here.
David: Didn't I promise to always have your back?
Greenlee: Yeah, well, my back's not very popular here these days.
David: It's all part of the process. I know it's not easy, but in the end, you're gonna get what you want, everything you've earned.
Greenlee: You don't think it's cruel removing Erica's image from the company?
David: No. I think it was the smart thing to do, the only thing to do.
Greenlee: You know Erica came to my rescue once? A long time ago after Leo died. The tabloids wouldn't leave me alone, and she went crazy on some process server, ripped the film out of the camera to protect me. I sure as hell am not doing much to protect her now, am I?
David: Greenlee, don't do that.
Greenlee: That day, she told me to stay true to who I am, to have no doubts. Now? Huh. All I have are doubts about what I've done, about who I am.
David: You're Greenlee Hayward, a smart, brilliant, strong woman who's trying to keep her company.
Greenlee: How do you do it? Erica's plane crash is just another obstacle to be removed?
David: No, of course not. Greenlee, I already told you I care deeply for Erica. Hell, I even loved her once. But if I let my mind go there just to think about what happened to her -- what might've happened -- there's nothing we can do to fix it.
Greenlee: It just feels like we should do something or say something.
David: How about a toast?
Greenlee: To Erica?
David: Why not? Would you care to do the honors?
Greenlee: I guess. To Erica Kane. There's never been another like her.
David: Amen.
[Phone rings]
David: Hmm. Hello? Yeah, all right. Ok, I'll be right there. I got to go -- hospital business.
Greenlee: Ok.
David: You were great today.
Greenlee: Ohh.
[Greenlee picks up Erica's picture then drops it in the trash can]
Erica: You think just because I'm a woman and I'm small and I'm hurt, that makes you stronger? Well, you're wrong. Because I don't give up, and obviously you have.
Caleb: Oh, you know me so well.
Erica: Yes, you survive. But there's no way in hell that you could ever mistake this for living.
Caleb: What the hell do you know about surviving? And spare me the bear story.
Erica: I survived my addiction. I survived rape. Each of my daughters nearly died. I lost my mother, I -- my son. A lot of career ups and downs.
Caleb: Hmm. And all those husbands.
Erica: Yes, all those husbands.
Caleb: Hmm.
Erica: I have survived more than you could even comprehend. And you know something? Every single one of those things has made me stronger, because I didn't run away and hide on the mountain. No, I faced every challenge. I took every risk. And for every pain that I felt, I experienced joy, because life is more than just surviving. Life is also about love. Love!
Caleb: Hmm-hmm-hmm.
Erica: And that's why I have got to get the hell out of this place and this mountain and go home! And I will, and you will stay here. You will stay here by yourself, and you'll tell yourself what a big, strong man you are. And you know what you really are? You're a coward, because you live here all by yourself with nothing but a bottle of booze and a dog that doesn't even have a name! And you know what? I don't even think that that dog exists!
Caleb: If I could hear you, I'd tell you to shut the hell up. But I can't hear you.
Erica: Because you can't take the truth. Great. Well, I've had enough. I have had enough. I have got to get the hell out of here, and I am! I'm going! I hate you! I've had enough --
Caleb: Whoops.
Erica: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, that's my cell phone!
Caleb: Uh-uh-uh-uh.
Erica: You had my cell phone all this time? All this time you kept my cell phone away from me, so I couldn't call my family, and I couldn't call the police.
Caleb: Is that what you think?
Erica: Ohh. [Picks up the rifle and points it at Caleb]
Caleb: Hey.
Erica: You stay the hell away from me.
Caleb: You won't shoot me.
Erica: You wouldn't be the first man I shot, or stabbed.
Caleb: What, they come between you and your fancy shoes?
Erica: Oh, I was right all along about you, wasn't I? You just pretended to try to help me, and all you did was you kept me here.
Caleb: Why the hell would I want you here?
Erica: Give me my phone.
Caleb: Give me my gun.
Erica: Slide it to me. Back up. Back up! Keep going.
Caleb: Should I put my hands in the air?
Erica: Sure.
Caleb: Gun's heavy, isn't it?
Erica: I'm getting out of here.
Caleb: You don't even know which way to go.
Erica: Yeah, I do. You told me how to get down the mountain. Stay there.
Caleb: Want me to get the door for you?
Erica: Oh, shut it.
Caleb: Thank you.
Annie: That was amazing.
Scott: And it's just the beginning.
[Music plays as J.R. looks at the picture taken earlier of him and Annie]
Jack: Erica! Erica?
[Jack and Krystal enter the empty cabin]
Singer: And I wanna go home I wanna go home I've got to go home I wanna go home into the arms that keep me safe
[As she walks down the mountain, Erica tries to use her cell phone]
Erica: No battery.
Singer: Wrap me up fly me away where I can breathe and rest my head until I have to leave again
Erica: Ahh! [Falls down]
Greenlee: I'll never forget you, and neither will anyone else who's ever met you. You've made me a stronger person, and for that I want to say thank you. And I'm sorry.
[Elevator doors open]
Greenlee: Did you forget something?
Bianca: Celebrating my mother's demise already?
Greenlee: Bianca. You're here.
Bianca: Yeah, I'm here. You better hope Uncle Jack finds my mother alive, because if he doesn't, you'll wish you were the one who went down in that plane.
