[Thud]

[Kendall sighs]

Kendall's voice: "Liza's been really incredible through all this. Worked through the night with Liza."

[Glass shatters as Aidan smiles]

Kat: So, how did it go?

Aidan: Let's -- let's put it this way. We need a vacuum up there.

Kat: Is Kendall in pieces already?

Aidan: No, but the wine glass is.

Kat: Sweet. That means it's working.

Aidan: That message that you sent her --

Kat: The message Zach sent her.

Aidan: Ok. It's just driving Kendall crazy just thinking that Liza might be spending time with Zach. I know Kendall doesn't want to doubt him again.

Kat: But she will. You'll make sure of that.

Jake: So, Annie did not have a miscarriage. The baby's fine.

Adam: That's wonderful. Ha, ha! Wonderful!

Ryan: I -- I don't understand.

Jake: Annie -- she is pregnant.

Ryan: What?

Jake: The ultrasound proved it. And she's about a month along.

Ryan: I was completely positive that she was faking this whole thing, Jake. Are you --

Jake: Yeah, nobody's more surprised than her.

Annie: Did Jake tell you?

Adam: Yes, yes, but I had to see you to make sure it's true.

Annie: It's true, Adam. Our baby's ok.

Adam: Oh, my God, it's a miracle.

Annie: It certainly is.

Erica: This is a nightmare. A baby means no confession, and no confession means that Kendall can never come home!

Ryan: No, we're going to find another way to get to Adam.

Erica: How, how? Family means everything to that man. There is no way that he's going to go to prison and leave his child.

Zach: What if this child isn't his?

David: Well, I guess my backseat days aren't over, after all.

Amanda: Ok, two rules. One, don't talk, and two, do not look at me.

David: [Ok]

[Door pings open as Amanda gets in the back seat and closes her door, then David joins her as she cries]

Kendall: Hey. You might want to be careful. I had a little accident up here.

Aidan: Yeah. I see that. Are you ok?

Kendall: I have no idea how to answer that question. Uh, ok, let's see -- I -- I have been convicted of a murder I didn't commit. Though I guess that's probably my fault, considering that I did plead guilty. I am completely helpless, on the run, hiding from the FBI and the U.S. Marshals, and I -- I don't even want to know who else. Let's see -- haven't seen my family in what feels like an eternity. And to top it all off, I just found out my husband is spending endless nights with a woman who not only wants him, but has already had him. Isn't that nice? Yeah. I -- why would he even bring up her name? After all this drama with Liza, Zach knows I can't stand the woman. Why even type her name?

Aidan: Well, you said he was exhausted. And he was up all night?

Kendall: Yeah, I know. Don't remind me.

Aidan: Well, maybe he was just tired.

Kendall: But that's the thing. Zach doesn't get tired. I don't know -- the whole thing is weird. It's -- it's like this was written by someone else.

Aidan: Just tell him.

Kendall: Tell him what? That I'm a complete paranoid freak? I think he already knows that.

Aidan: No, you should grab the computer and just tell him that, you know, you feel hurt, about the fact that he mentioned Liza. Kendall, if you're going to be honest with him, now's the time.

[Kendall sighs and picks up her laptop]

Zach: Do you ever wonder why Scott is still around?

Erica: [Sighs] Scott, Little Adam, J.R., Colby -- they're Adam's family.

Zach: Yeah, but do you ever wonder why he stays in the house, looking at that spot where his father got killed? It would drive me crazy, but he stays.

Ryan: So you think there's something going on between Scott and Annie?

Zach: Oh, I know there is.

Erica: And I've felt that for quite some time. Scott is fiercely loyal to her.

Zach: But this goes beyond loyalty. I had Aidan work for me. He found a surveillance disk. Interesting viewing.

Erica: Annie and Scott?

Zach: And Annie and J.R.

Erica: Doing what?

Zach: What do you call it? Making out? Is that what you -- is that what you say?

Erica: She's such a lying tramp.

Zach: To be fair, Adam and Annie weren't married at the time.

Erica: And that makes it all right?

Zach: No, but it wasn't just Annie.

Erica: J.R., I can understand, with his head in a bottle half the time, but those two?

Adam: And my baby is healthy, and so is his mother.

Scott: "His"?

Annie: Well, what makes you so sure it's a boy?

Adam: Oh. Just wishful thinking, I guess.

Annie: Hmm. J.R. -- now that he's separated himself from the family, you want a son to replace him?

Adam: No, I was hoping a son would bring J.R. back. Nobody knows better than I the bond that brothers share. I couldn't have picked a better brother than Stuart.

Annie: Hmm.

Scott: I'm sure he would have said the same thing about you.

Adam: He taught me generosity and compassion. I can't say I ever followed his example, but -- huh -- I -- because he was there, I tried. I don't know -- what did I ever teach my brother in return?

Scott: You taught him a lot of things.

Adam: Yeah. When you came to town, I was hoping that you might do for J.R. what Stuart had done for me. But that -- that bond was never formed, through no fault of anyone but my own.

Scott: No, Uncle Adam, J.R. and I are adults. And just because we're not tight, it's not your fault.

Adam: Forced that ridiculous competition on you. Of all the mistakes I ever made --

Annie: You know what? It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, because this is our second chance. And this baby is going to be loved and cherished and made to feel safe every single day. We're going to do it right this time.

Adam: That's a promise.

Erica: Annie is playing Adam. That is completely clear. But how are we going to prove it? You know that Annie's never going to agree to a DNA test.

Ryan: Even is she did, the baby still could turn out to be Adam's. I say we forget about proof. We don't need proof. What we need is to get to Adam, just for him to think there's the slightest chance that he's not the father.

Erica: I love at. The power of doubt. Great. Once it gets in his head --

Zach: It'll never leave.

Kendall: "The thought of you alone with her all night makes my skin crawl. And I know what you're going to say -- that "we were up all night trying to help you." And I'm sure that's true. But it doesn't make hearing about it any easier. Being away from you and the boys is already killing me. So please don't make it worse by bringing up Liza. Because honestly, I don't think I could take it." I sound like a raving lunatic. I -- this -- I can't send this.

[Aidan scoffs]

Aidan: Of course, you can. You should get everything off your chest.

Kendall: No, Zach's going to think I've completely lost it and reverted right back to paranoia-ville.

Aidan: No, no, it's his fault if you feel paranoid for mentioning the fact that he's spent a lot of time working with Liza.

Kendall: Yeah, but maybe -- I don't know -- maybe he really is just trying to reassure me by letting me know that they won't give up.

Aidan: Or maybe it's a defense mechanism.

Kendall: What does that mean?

Aidan: Well, it can't be easy together. I mean, that's what got us into trouble the first time, remember?

Kendall: Aidan, we thought Greenlee and Zach were dead. This is completely different.

Aidan: Kendall, you said yourself that Zach's never really gotten over the fact, you know, that we slept together.

Kendall: Yeah, ok, so -- so, what? This is some kind of a test? Zach is mentioning Liza to mess with me? To see if I run back into your arms?

Aidan: Just send the message. We'll find out.

[Downstairs, Kat intercepts Kendall's missive and types one of her own]

Kat: "I know it's been a while since my last message."

Zach: I should get home -- get a message to Kendall.

Erica: Yes.

Zach: If there's anything you need --

Ryan: We got it covered.

Zach: You sure?

Ryan: We've just got to wait for Adam to be alone.

Scott: How about some privacy? See you back at the house.

Adam: Scott, just a minute. I have to see Jake about something. It won't take long, but -- well, after everything that Annie's been through, I'd hate to leave her alone. Could -- could you stand guard for me?

Annie: Please? It really helps having you here.

[Scott sighs]

Scott: Yeah. Yeah, sure, I'll stay.

Erica: Now's our chance.

[Door pings as Amanda and David get back into the front seat]

David: Well, that wasn't so bad, now, was it?

Amanda: Are you kidding? Put this on and get me the hell out of here.

David: All right, take it easy. Besides, we can't go anywhere until the tow truck gets here.

Amanda: I feel sick.

David: Why don't you open a window? Get some air.

Amanda: Air is not my problem.

David: Look, I know this isn't how you envisioned it happening.

Amanda: Yeah, making a baby with a man that I despise -- totally on my list of life goals.

David: I meant the sex. But we both know why we did it, Amanda. To conceive a child as quickly as possible, so you can get your life back together.

Amanda: That's why I did it. You are just a sadistic bastard.

David: Hey, you want to get back to Jake, now, don't you?

Amanda: If he ever finds out about this, I'm not going to be able to ever go back to Jake.

[Phone rings]

Amanda: Maybe that's a tow company.

David: I'm afraid not. Dr. Hayward.

Jake: Hey, can you put Amanda on the phone, please?

David: It's for you.

Amanda: Hello?

Jake: Hey. I -- I tried to call you, like, a million times. You're -- are you not picking up your phone?

Amanda: Um, I forgot it. When I ran out of the house this morning, I had a lot on my mind.

Jake: Well, are you all right?

Amanda: I'm fine.

Jake: I called the clinic.

Amanda: You did?

Jake: Yeah, they wouldn't tell me anything, you know. So, is it over?

Amanda: It's over.

Jake: Well, all right. I'll -- I'll come and pick you up.

Amanda: No, um, we're on our way back now.

Jake: Amanda, listen, um --

Amanda: Yeah?

Jake: I love you. And -- I just -- I love you, and I'm sure David's standing right there, so I'll -- I'll let you go.

David: You handled that perfectly. It sounds like Jake doesn't suspect a thing.

Amanda: How am I going to look Jake in eye knowing what we just did?

David: He doesn't know, Amanda. And unless you break down and tell him, he never will.

Amanda: Oh, my God. I hate this.

David: Once you have that little child growing inside you, trust me, Amanda, it'll all be worth it. Think of Trevor. We created him on one drunken, wild night.

Amanda: Again with the reminders!

David: No, no, but just -- really, think about it. Could you even imagine your life without him? Without his gurgles and his tiny little hugs? And that beautiful little smile of his?

Amanda: No.

David: Well, it's going to be exactly the same way with this next one.

Nurse: Would you like me to have Dr. Martin paged?

Adam: No, what I would like is for you to have -- find some news about -- regarding my wife, and do it now!

Erica: Adam -- Adam, you have got to calm down. That's not good for your heart. And please, just stop berating that poor woman for something that is clearly out of her control.

Adam: Yeah, sort of like the -- what you and your goons are doing to Annie.

Erica: Oh, please, Adam.

Adam: Pushing and pulling -- anything you can to get her to snap. Well, congratulations. You got your wish. It very nearly cost me my child.

Scott: Yeah, now is really not a good time, Ryan.

Ryan: Really? Because I heard it was a great time. Congratulations on the pregnancy. You guys must be thrilled, right? And surprised, too, I would imagine.

Scott: Get out.

Annie: No, it's ok, Scott. Ryan obviously has something to say. I'm guessing it's not an apology.

Ryan: Very, very perceptive, Annie, even from a hospital bed. Way to go.

Annie: Do you really hate me that much, Ryan?

Ryan: Can you be more specific?

Annie: It killed me when I lost our baby. I trust that you know that?

Ryan: I do, yes.

Annie: Then how could you? How could you come to me and lie? Let me think that that horrible tragedy cost me the chance to ever have another baby?

Ryan: Are you serious right now? You're going to talk to me about lying? You are going to talk to me? I mean, who made up this whole pregnancy thing to begin with, Annie?

Scott: Ok, that's enough you --

Ryan: A very, very twisted way to keep Adam in line. He must really want to confess. Am I right? For you to stoop to something this low, this desperate?

Scott: I can call security.

Annie: It's all right. Security won't be able to stop him. Nothing ever does.

Ryan: Face it, Annie. I was just calling your bluff, that's it.

Annie: Well, Ryan, this pregnancy is no bluff. And I have an ultrasound to prove it. It's over.

Ryan: Yeah? Then why does it seem like it's just beginning? Let me be very clear about what I've been doing lately. Everything -- everything has been for Emma the whole time, to keep her away from you.

Scott: Let me get this straight. You -- you really think that Annie is a threat to her own daughter?

[Ryan chuckles]

Ryan: Yes, Scott, I really think so.

Annie: Hmm. Interesting, considering you just bullied me into a near miscarriage.

Ryan: Fake miscarriage.

Annie: Well, they'll let the court to decide about that. Did I tell you? Adam filed the paperwork. We're suing for full custody of Emma. So get yourself prepared, Ryan. You're about to lose your daughter forever.

Ryan: The only thing a judge will hand you or Adam is 20 years to life.

Adam: You know, if you had a shred of decency, you'd leave Annie alone. Not for Annie's sake or my sake, but for the sake of our unborn child.

Erica: And your other children, Adam? Or do they simply not matter anymore?

Adam: Oh -- well, J.R., Colby -- yeah, they matter a great deal to my family.

Erica: Even though they've moved out and want nothing to do with you?

Adam: Yeah. Well, they'll come back. They always do. I still have Scott.

Erica: Yes, yes, you do.

Adam: Uh-huh.

Erica: And his loyalty is absolutely amazing, considering that you killed his father.

Adam: What happened to Stuart was a horrible mistake, an accident.

Erica: One that you caused. You shot and killed him.

Adam: You know, repeating something incessantly doesn't make it right.

Erica: And burying your head in the sand doesn't make it go away. Stuart is gone, Adam.

Adam: I know. I'll never get over that.

Erica: Really? Really? You mean that? Because honestly, it seems just the opposite.

Adam: No, no, no, Stuart would have wanted us to move forward. To take this child as a -- as a sign of new hope for our family.

Ryan: Well, then you're doing a great job, because you got a lot of hope over there at Chandler Mansion, right? Everything is new. You got a new wife, new baby, new son in Scott.

Adam: Scott's a very good man.

Ryan: Yes, he is, and very, very forgiving. I got to tell you, if somebody took away the person that I loved the most, accident or not, I couldn't let it go.

Adam: Well, luckily, my nephew is nothing like you.

Ryan: Yes, that is lucky. It's very lucky, because if I were Scott and I knew what you did, I would want to hurt you, Adam, just as much as you hurt me.

Aidan: You know, I think we went a little bit overboard with that last message we sent from Zach.

Kat: I -- wait, which part was overboard? The message, or you trying to steal a happily married woman who's on the run from the cops?

Aidan: [Chuckles] The message.

Kat: Well, it's working, isn't it? I mean, Kendall's upstairs right now pulling her hair out.

Aidan: Listen, Kat, the more off these messages sound from Zach, the more suspicious Kendall's going to get.

Kat: Isn't that the point?

Aidan: Yeah, but, look, if Kendall figures out that Zach's not the one that's writing these messages -- then we're done.

Kat: You need to chillax, Aidan, ok? From what you've told me about Zach, we're playing this thing perfectly. I mean, we want him to sound off and distant. That way, you know, she'll turn to your sexy shoulder. Isn't that your plan?

Aidan: Unless Zach doesn't find a way to mess this whole thing up.

Kat: You leave this Zach guy to me. Shoo.

[Zach reads Kendall's latest message]

Kendall's voice: I know it's been a while since my last message, and I'm sorry. Aidan's been keeping me busy, so I don't waste my days sitting by the computer. And I guess he's right. I mean, what's the point of waiting around for news that may never come? Today he took me for a picnic by the river. It was cold, but luckily, we had blankets to keep us warm. It really is beautiful here. It's so quiet. At first, I hated that. I couldn't sleep. But I'm slowly getting used to it. Got a few solid hours of rest last night. Of course, the big comfy bed didn't hurt, either.

[Zach imagines Aidan shivering next to Kendall]

Kendall: Aidan, this is crazy.

Aidan: No, I'm fine.

Kendall: No, you're not fine, you're freezing. There's plenty of room in this big comfy bed for both of us. Come on.

[Kendall puts her arm around Aidan]

David: By all means, make yourself at home.

Jake: How are you doing? You sure?

Amanda: I'm fine.

Jake: She doesn't look fine.

Amanda: My ankle hurts, that's all.

Jake: Are you sure that's all?

David: No, she's probably starving.

Jake: Is that true? Are you -- are you hungry?

David: She was very nervous before the procedure. I don't think she's eaten all day. Would you like me to make us some dinner? Just --

Amanda: I'm not hungry.

David: I understand. You two want to be alone. Well, if she changes her mind, you know where the kitchen is. Jake --

Jake: What, what?

David: I want to apologize. I know this arrangement --

Jake: Interesting word.

David: Well, I know it hasn't been easy for you. But for the record, it was never about keeping Amanda from you. It was about trying to create a new life in the most timely manner possible. And fingers crossed, we may have done just that tonight.

Jake: Well, I don't know how I'm supposed to respond to that, so --

David: You don't have to say anything. I'm going to go check on Trevor. Make sure she gets some rest.

Jake: Baby, what happened at the clinic?

Amanda: Jake, you're a doctor. I mean, do you really need a play-by-play?

Jake: Well, I wasn't talking about the procedure. And I'm pretty sure you know that, but -- but something is -- I mean, what's -- you guys are acting weird.

Amanda: It was a weird day.

Jake: Really? Well, I wouldn't know, because you're not telling me anything.

Amanda: What do you want me to say? I was making a baby with a man that I can't stand.

Jake: What can I -- what can I do?

Amanda: You can stop asking me questions, because I really just want to forget the whole thing.

Jake: Ok. Fine. I'm sorry, I just -- last question. Why would he suddenly start acting civil towards me?

Amanda: Why not? He won. He got everything that he wanted.

Jake: Uh -- well, no. That would mean he got you, right? And that -- that's not happening, so can we just please keep sight of that?

Amanda: I'll try.

[Zach types a message for Kendall]

Zach's voice: "We found out why Adam hasn't come forward to confess. It turns out Annie's pregnant. And before you ask -- this time, it's real. Jake confirmed it. I'm not telling you this so you'll panic. I just didn't want you to hear it from someone else. Annie can give birth to a whole litter of Chandlers. Trust me, it won't make a difference. And we'll get the truth out of Adam. A plan's already in place. I love you. Don't you ever forget it."

[Kat's computer chimes]

Kat: Kendall's got mail.

Aidan: All right, delete. New message.

[Aidan sighs]

Aidan: "You're doing it again. Jumping to conclusions about me and Liza. For the last time, there's nothing going on. Liza is giving up all of her time to help you, so you might consider thanking her. We're close to putting an end to all of this. And I'm talking days, if not hours. So just sit tight, and be patient."

Kat: Nice.

Aidan: Send.

[Upstairs, Kendall's laptop chimes]

[Door opens]

Aidan: Hey. What's wrong?

Kendall: It's Zach. I knew that he would react like this. He thinks I'm jumping to conclusions.

Aidan: Well, what did he say?

Kendall: He didn't really say much at all. He's doing the typical Zach thing. He's just shutting down. But the thing is, I didn't think that was typical. I mean, we had gotten to such a good place. And then this, and then he writes something like this. Do you know what he said? He said I should thank Liza. Thank her for what? For doing my husband?

Aidan: I mean, you think they actually did --

Kendall: No -- I don't know. I just know that when Zach reacts like this, it means that I hit a nerve.

Aidan: Kendall, maybe he's just, you know, preoccupied trying to nail Adam.

Kendall: No. Aidan, he won't talk about any of this. It's like he's completely shut down. I just wish this whole thing was over. I'm just -- I'm done with this. I wish it would just end.

Aidan: It's going to be all right. I promise.

Aidan: I'm sorry.

Kendall: For what?

Aidan: I can't. I can't.

Kendall: You can't -- you can't do what?

[Aidan sighs]

Kendall: You can't do what?

[Door closes as Aidan leaves the room]

Erica: So how do you think it went with Adam?

Ryan: I think the seed of doubt has definitely been planted.

Erica: So do I. Now all we have to do is wait for it to grow.

Scott: You really should have let me just throw him out.

Annie: It's ok.

Scott: Ryan really didn't get to you, did he?

Annie: No. How could he? I am pregnant, Scott. I don't know how or when, but this is actually happening.

Scott: Yeah. Well, they say God works in mysterious ways.

Annie: Yeah. I used to wonder about that, too. With my history. You know, parents that couldn't care less about me, the brother who terrorized me for fun. Failed marriages, a mental breakdown, being separated from my daughter -- I used to wonder what kind of a God would allow that.

Scott: Maybe one who pulls through when you need it.

Annie: Yeah. When Jake told me I was pregnant --

Scott: I cannot imagine --

Annie: Oh, my God.

Scott: What went through your mind.

Annie: A million different things. A million. But you know what was first on that list? What if I had thrown myself down the stairs.

Scott: Yeah, right, what if you had made me push you down those stairs, hmm?

Annie: I never should have asked you to do that. I'm sorry.

Scott: It wasn't even a consideration.

Annie: I'm having a baby.

Scott: Mm-hmm.

Annie: Adam's baby. I mean, everything is finally coming together.

Scott: Yeah. For who?

Annie: For all of us.

Scott: Yeah? Even for this one here? Because a couple hours ago, that kid was nothing more than a strategy move.

Annie: Well, because I didn't know that it existed. But now I do, and I love this baby, Scott, just as much as I love Adam.

Scott: I hope that's true.

Annie: It is true. Did you see how happy your uncle was when he was in here? This baby is a symbol of our new life together. And then once we get Emma, everything's just going to be perfect.

Scott: The family you always dreamed of.

Annie: You're part of that family, too, you know.

Scott: Yeah. Maybe I shouldn't be.

Jake: You know, if you're hungry, I could run out and get us something if --

Amanda: I really just want to go to bed -- forget this day ever happened.

Jake: Ok. I just -- I wish I could -- I wish I could stay with you.

Amanda: Me, too.

Jake: Ahem. Ok, then I'll see you tomorrow then, all right? And things will look better then.

Amanda: Promise?

Jake: Yes, I promise. Ok.

David: Jake leave? You all right?

Amanda: How could I do this to him?

[Amanda sobs into her hands]

David: You want to know how? Amanda, here. Right here. We did this for our son.

[David puts Trevor in Amanda's arms]

Amanda: Hey.

[Footsteps]

Kendall: Good, you're here.

Aidan: Where else would I be?

Kendall: I don't know. I mean, the way you -- you ran out of our room -- what was that?

Aidan: Does this bring you back?

Kendall: To what?

Aidan: To when Zach and Greenlee were stuck down in that mine shaft, and it was just -- just me and you against the rest of the world.

Kendall: I guess it was just us.

Aidan: Just like now.

Kendall: So?

Aidan: So, I just -- I don't want things to get complicated. I don't want us to be in that position again, you know? Where things just get muddled.

Kendall: Well, you've got me here to help un-muddle you.

Aidan: That's the problem.

Kendall: I'm the problem?

Aidan: Well, we're together. Or at least it feels that way, together. I don't know.

Kendall: You're afraid that we'll have sex again?

Aidan: Aren't you?

Zach: Jesse, it's Zach. Call me as soon as you get this. Something's not right with Kendall. Want to get her home, now.

Scott: Erica said something to me. And I don't know -- maybe she was right.

Annie: Doubtful.

Scott: She said that I'm staying in the house for my own selfish reasons.

Annie: You're staying in the house to protect your uncle.

Scott: Am I? Or am I just hanging around and going along with all these insane plans as a way of keeping my father alive? Just think about it. As long as Adam is still here, and he's not in a cell somewhere, in a way, my dad is still kind of here, too.

Annie: Do you really believe that?

Scott: I don't know. But I do know that I need to take a step back, and finally deal with my father's death.

Annie: Alone.

Scott: Yes.

[Annie sighs]

Scott: I think it's the only way that I'm ever going to move on from this.

Annie: But you can't, Scott. I need you.

Scott: What about what I need, Annie?

Annie: What you need is -- is right here. Hope. Yes. I mean, we lost Stuart, but we've been given this other life in return. I mean, not to make your father's death any easier. Of course, it doesn't make it easier, but -- but at least it's something. It's something to hold on to. Now more than ever.

Scott: You're going to be fine. You got Adam to look after you.

Annie: And who's going to look after him? And this baby? I mean, we -- we need to protect them, Scott. Please. I can't do it alone.

[Annie takes Scott's hands as Adam watches from the doorway while Ryan and Erica watch him]
