Natalia: Hey. You looking for my dad?
Angie: Yeah. He around?
Natalia: No, you caught him in the field. I'm not sure where he is.
Angie: Well, how are you doing? Scary way to start off your police career.
Natalia: Yeah. Some Feds haven't ever fired their weapon on duty. Me, I do it as soon as I get out there, first day on the job.
Angie: You did what you were trained to do. You should be proud of yourself.
Natalia: Thanks. Desk duty sucks, though.
[Phone rings]
Natalia: Oh. And that's his line right here. Hold on. Chief Hubbard's office.
Man: Yeah, this is Mark Fornost, WPNV News. I was wondering if the chief was available for comment on the news.
Natalia: No, he's out of the office. What news are you talking about?
[Randi gasps as she wakes up]
Frankie: What is it?
Randi: Another dream.
Frankie: About Madison?
Randi: Yeah.
Frankie: Oh. Come here. Come on.
Adam: It would ruin Emma's life. She'd be crushed. So, the truth can never come out. The fallout would be disastrous.
Scott: Yes, it would be. No one can know what she did.
Jesse: "She"? Do you mean Annie? And why is that, Adam? What did Annie do?
Scott: What are you doing here -- who let you in?
Jesse: Well, I let myself in. The door was unlocked, which I find a little odd, given the reason you called me over.
Adam: I asked the chief to give me a report on Kendall, just in case she decided to fix the job she botched that night.
Jesse: So I get here, the door's unlocked, no security, no alarm. Maybe we're not so concerned about Kendall, after all. I mean, given what I overheard, maybe we should be more concerned about Annie.
Emma: I don't want to go home.
Ryan: What do you mean? You heard Dr. Jake, all right? He said you were doing great, and you can finish your healing in your own bed.
Emma: I want to go to the big house with Mommy.
Ryan: You want to go to the big house with Mommy? I thought the big house was scary for you.
Emma: It is, but --
Ryan: Ok, I got an idea. How about this? How about your mommy and I go outside, and we try to figure this out, ok? Sound like a good idea? We'll be right back.
Emma: Ok.
Ryan: I'm smiling right now, because Emma can see me, and I don't want her to be upset about anything, do you understand that?
Annie: Of course.
Ryan: Good, good. You twisted, manipulating bitch.
Marissa: We have all the time in the world.
J.R.: What if we don't? What if I --
Marissa: Talking like that isn't allowed.
J.R.: But I have to. Marissa, I love you. And I just don't know what I'd do without you.
Marissa: You don't have to worry about that.
J.R.: I do. Marissa, will you marry me? I want you to be my wife.
Marissa: You -- I don't understand.
J.R.: Marissa Tasker, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?
Marissa: J.R -- please, I -- I can't marry you.
J.R.: Why not?
Marissa: Because I know you're only asking me because you're scared. You think that the time is running out, and that the cancer is going to win, and -- I can't let you think like that.
J.R.: Well, then you've got it all wrong. I mean, does it have to do with the cancer? Yes, it's opened my eyes. It's made me realize how important life is. It's made me realize how important you are in my life. I love you, Marissa, and I want you by my side -- not just today or tomorrow or the next day, but for years to come. So, one more time. Will you marry me?
Tad: Oh, for God's sake, for the last time, would you cheer up?
Little Adam: We want to make pumpkins.
Tad: You do?
Kathy: Will you carve them, Daddy?
Tad: Only if you scoop out all the goo.
Both: Ew!
Tad: What do you mean, "Ew"? Stop complaining. That's half the fun. I'll tell you what. You guys go see if you can find a newspaper to put down, ok?
Both: Yay!
Tad: Yay, yay.
Kathy: Yay!
Little Adam: Oh!
Krystal: Tad?
Tad: Yeah?
Krystal: Um -- I got a letter from J.R.'s attorney this morning.
Tad: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He told me about that. It's just what you guys spoke about. In case anything happens to him, he wants you to be the legal guardian of Little A. It's just smart estate planning, that's all.
Krystal: Yeah, well, it got me thinking.
Tad: About what?
Krystal: What's wrong with J.R.?
Tad: What do you mean?
Krystal: Well, come on. He's barely even phoned to check up on Little A in the past two days. Tad -- is he drinking?
[Tad scoffs]
Tad: Heaven forbid, no. No, honey, he's just -- he's sorting himself out. You know? A lot has happened over there at the mansion with Stuart's death. Now, honestly, I think he's just taking healthy advantage of the fact that right now, you and I can give Little A a very good home. And it gives him the chance to take stock of things, that's all.
[Kathy laughs]
Little Adam: Make mine really scary.
Tad: Yeah, I'll see what I can do. Go on, go on, go on, go on!
Little Adam: Get on it!
Tad: I'll see if I can carve a likeness of Hayward on that thing.
Erica: You know, your daddy was so happy when he heard that you could go home today. I bet you're happy, too, right, to be getting out of here?
Ryan: You heard me talking to Jake. You heard what he said, that Emma's psyche is so fragile right now, and you're using that. You're using it because you know I can't fight you on it. So you're trying to control things, trying to make sure Emma doesn't say things that you don't want her to.
[Annie scoffs, chuckles]
Annie: Oh, Ryan, you just can't stand the fact that she doesn't want to go home with you. She wants to be with her mother, whom she loves more than anything. And if you try to stop me, you'll be crushing her. And that's exactly what Jake said not to do. Is that really what you want, Ryan?
Randi: I was in this room with all these doors. And I was trying to get out, but Madison was behind every single one of them. She was just laughing at me. She kept saying, "It's not over." I'd go from door to door, and she'd still be there behind every single one of them. Just, "It's not over. It's not over."
Frankie: Yeah, but it is over, baby. You didn't kill North. She admitted that she did it.
Randi: She's lied before, Frankie. She could wake up from surgery tomorrow and completely flip her story.
Frankie: If that's the case, then why did she try to give me the safety deposit key right before the wreck? See, I think it's because Madison's finally faced what she did. If she wasn't -- she wouldn't have done it if she wasn't sincere.
Randi: The key is still missing, though. All the evidence -- it's still out there --
Frankie: Hey, stop. It doesn't matter. She's out of our lives. All that matters is you and me, right here, right now.
Randi: But I --
Angie: My God, Madison's dead? What happened? I thought she was going to make it.
Natalia: No. They took her to the hospital in New York, just like her dad had wanted, but she died in ICU afterwards.
Angie: David warned him not to move her to New York. I mean, he said it was way too dangerous.
[Angie sighs]
Angie: It's over then. I mean, it's really over.
Natalia: You know what? I'll get the dispatch to find Dad. Why don't you call Randi and Frankie?
Angie: Yeah, I need to make a stop first.
Natalia: Where?
Angie: Church. I want to say a prayer.
Natalia: For her?
Angie: And for me. I have never hated another human being like I did her. I mean, I wished her dead more than twice. I need to ask forgiveness for that and pray that she's at peace.
Jesse: Would either of you care to explain what I just overheard? "No one can know what she did." Kind of piqued my curiosity.
[Adam chuckles]
Adam: Which killed the proverbial cat, remember.
Jesse: Wouldn't know. Not a cat.
Adam: The woman who killed my brother Stuart is somewhere out there, on the run. Not Annie. Annie -- leave Annie alone. She's about to become my wife. I don't think you'd appreciate people falsely accusing someone you love of murder, hmm?
[Phone rings]
Jesse: Excuse me. Yeah?
Natalia: Have you heard?
Jesse: Heard what?
Natalia: Madison North -- she's dead.
Tad: I don't know. I'll ask her. Krystal, do you like pumpkin seeds?
Krystal: Yeah. Yeah, sure.
Tad: Ok, I'll tell you what. You guys continue with the scooping and the muck. And then we'll draw scary faces, and then I'll get busy with the knife, ok?
[Scary laughter]
Tad: All right. Is something on your mind?
Krystal: I was just -- I was just watching you all, and -- I don't know -- wondering what a stranger would think if he walked in here and saw us.
Tad: Well, he'd think he was looking at a family getting ready for Halloween, why?
Krystal: We're not a family, though. Are we?
Tad: Krystal, we talked about this. I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what we are. And for my sake, would you let me have now? Please? And what got you so wound up?
Krystal: Ahem -- I guess it was just -- that document -- the guardianship document that J.R. sent over.
Tad: Well, what about it?
Krystal: Well, I mean, we both know that he doesn't just mean for me to be Little A's guardian, but for you, too. It's like it's expected. It's like we're a package deal. You're the father.
Tad: Well, better me than Adam. I mean, you say that like it's a bad thing. You know, Krystal, I'm not too good at reading between the lines right now, so --
Krystal: Tad, is this all we're destined to be? Two people, living together only to give Jenny and Kathy, and God forbid, Little A a sense of family? Are we going to settle for that? Is that what you want?
Tad: I honestly don't know.
Scott: You could have warned me that Jesse was coming over.
Adam: I only asked him over here so he'd think we were still concerned about Kendall. Fortunately, what he overheard made him think Annie, and not Emma. We have to be careful, though. Keep suspicion off that little girl.
Scott: And what, on Kendall?
Adam: Exactly.
Scott: Does it bother you in the least that an innocent woman is paying the price for my dad's death?
Adam: Would you rather Annie's daughter took the fall?
Scott: I just don't like it, that's all.
Adam: Well, fortunately, Kendall's not in prison anymore. We can only assume that since she is Zach Slater's wife and Erica Kane's daughter, that she's being very well looked after. I doubt we'll ever hear from her again.
Emma: Mommy and Daddy aren't fighting, are they?
Erica: No, I don't think so. They seem to be smiling.
Ryan: Even though you heard Jake say what he said -- that under no circumstances, Emma should be pressured -- you're pressuring her to stay at the mansion, the place where she saw you kill someone.
Annie: Oh. You are such a lying, controlling bastard. I spent months without Emma, and now I am a free, vindicated woman, so I'm going to take my daughter back. Emma wants to be with her mother. So what are you going to do? You going to tell her no? You going to break her heart like that? That's exactly what Jake said not to do, so I'll tell you what you should do. You should go in there and agree to whatever Emma wants. Because guess what, Ryan. That's your only option.
Ryan: Actually, it's not. Hey.
Emma: I want to go live with Mommy.
Ryan: Yeah, I got an even better idea. How would you like it if Mommy came and stayed with us at the penthouse?
Emma: Really, Mommy? Would you?
Annie: Oh, sweetheart, I don't think that Mommy can --
Emma: Please?
Ryan: Well, what do you say, Annie?
Annie: Honey, I just -- Mommy has some things she needs to work out, some plans she needs to make. And so -- we'll have to see. But in the meantime, you be a good girl, and you do exactly what the doctors say, ok? I love you so much.
[Ryan sighs]
Ryan: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Give me a hug. I'm sorry.
Jesse: It's true. I had to double-check myself. Madison made it through -- hey, baby. How are you doing?
Natalia: Hey. Good.
Jesse: Madison made it through the surgery, but I guess the move to New York must have taken its toll.
Randi: I dreamt about her last night. She kept telling me it wasn't over.
Angie: But, Randi, it is.
Randi: We're really free of it? Free of her?
Jesse: Maybe not all of us, huh? Not yet.
Tad: Uh -- ok. Yeah.
[Carving pumpkin]
Tad: Look. [Foreign accent] It's a self-portrait.
Krystal: Oh.
[Children laugh]
Tad: [Normal voice] See how we do it? Hey!
J.R.: Hey!
Little Adam: Daddy!
Marissa: Hi.
J.R.: Hey, buddy. Oh! It's good to see you.
Little Adam: We're carving pumpkins.
J.R.: Oh, you are?
Marissa: Oh.
Kathy: See?
J.R.: Well, I always knew Tad was the best pumpkin carver in Pine Valley.
Little Adam: He made a scary one in the kitchen. Do you want to see it?
J.R.: Well, what are you waiting for? Go get it.
[Little Adam laughs]
Krystal: Wow. Well, well, well, I heard you got the Bruce Willis buzz, but I just -- I couldn't imagine.
J.R.: Yeah, well, it's -- it's a look.
Krystal: Yeah. It's a great look.
J.R.: Thank you.
Tad: Somebody win the lottery?
J.R.: Well -- yeah, kind of. Are you going to be around for the next few hours?
Tad: I hope so. Why?
J.R.: Well, Marissa and I both know that you performed Jake and Amanda's wedding. And we were wondering if you could perform ours.
Tad: You mean that --
Marissa: We're getting married. [Sighs] Wow. I like this one.
J.R.: Yeah.
Marissa: I think this is my favorite.
J.R.: Yeah, I definitely can see some family resemblance.
[Marissa laughs]
Tad: Oh, come on, Krystal. Look at them. The way they stare at one another, it's perfectly obvious they're head over heels.
Krystal: Yeah. Well, you know, it's just not the right time. Not now.
Tad: Well, why not?
Krystal: Am I the only one who remembers that Babe died almost exactly a year ago? And now her husband wants to marry her sister? How do you expect me to feel?
Annie: He tricked me. And now, Emma is over there, and I can't even talk to her.
Adam: I should have gone down there to help you.
Annie: Well, none of us knew that she was going to be released from the hospital this early. Oh!
Adam: Well, if -- maybe Mr. Lavery wouldn't have been so dismissive of you, if he had believed what you told him -- that his daughter is the killer he's been trying to bring to justice.
Annie: Yeah, well, Ryan may hate me with a passion, but he loves Emma more than anything in the world.
Adam: You think he'd give up Emma to save his precious Kendall?
Annie: He might.
Adam: Huh.
Annie: I mean, it would tear him up inside, but Ryan has a very narrow-minded sense of right and wrong. Not that he would believe a word I say, anyway. We have to protect Emma. We have to get her away from Ryan.
Adam: Yes, the best place for her is with you.
Annie: Well, Ryan's made it very clear he's not going to let that happen, Adam.
Scott: No, Ryan's already given you the chance. And all you have to do is call his bluff and move in with him.
Emma: Why doesn't Mommy want to move in?
Ryan: Well, I think she just had some things that she needs to work out, that's all.
Emma: Is it because she doesn't love you anymore?
Ryan: Hey, do you remember when we talked about this already? Remember I told you that your mommy and I both love you so much. We do, but we're not in love with each other anymore. But that has nothing to do with you at all, nothing. And it certainly has nothing to do with how much we both love you.
Emma: Is it because you love Erica now?
Erica: Uh -- Emma, your daddy and I have known each other for a very long time. We're friends. We're best friends. We love each other like best friends. You can understand that?
Emma: Dr. Feelbetter wants to see his room.
Ryan: Oh, he does, does he? Then by all means, you take him up there, ok? I'll be up in a little while. And take your time on the stairs, please, ok?
Erica: That's a girl. So tell me something. What would you have done if Annie called your bluff?
Ryan: No chance she would have moved out of the mansion a couple weeks before her big wedding.
Erica: I think it was a brilliant move on your part.
Ryan: Thank you. Especially considering how afraid Emma seems to be of Adam right now. And you know I would do absolutely anything I have to do to protect my little girl.
Frankie: You can reach me at any of the three numbers that I gave you. Thank you.
Jesse: Franklin, you got to let it go. She's gone.
Frankie: What? I can't feel responsible? I was the one driving the car that night, Dad. And despite everything she's done to us, she did not deserve this.
Jesse: Don't blame yourself for this. What happened to her was an accident. What she was doing to us -- that was deliberate. Do not allow her to continue to terrorize you by feeling guilty. You take your wife and your life back and you move on. You hear me?
J.R.: Listen, I have some news for you. I love Marissa very, very much. And I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I want to get married to her -- if you're cool with that.
Little Adam: Yes. I like her very much.
J.R.: I like her, too, very much. I'm glad. I love you, buddy. Come here.
Marissa: You're not happy.
Krystal: I just don't want to see you hurt. I know what is happening. I know why J.R. is doing this.
[Krystal sighs]
Krystal: Nobody seems to recognize but me that we are two days out from the anniversary of Babe's death. J.R.'s reaching out for the closest thing he can find, and that happens to be you, her twin sister.
Marissa: You are not changing my mind about marrying J.R., no matter how ugly you try to paint this.
Krystal: Look, I'm sorry. I don't mean to put down J.R. or your feelings for him, but I happen to know him better than you do.
Little Adam: Can I go tell Kathy?
J.R.: You bet, buddy. Go right on ahead. Go ahead.
Tad: Hmm. You did that just right. I'm proud of you.
J.R.: Well, it sounds like there's a hidden "but" in that compliment.
Tad: I'm just wondering if maybe you shouldn't, you know, just wait for a little while. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm legal enough to get you two hitched, but I think the occasion merits a church and a bunch of your friends.
J.R.: I'm not getting married because of the cancer. I'm getting married because I love her. And I love you, too. And that's why I want you to do it.
Marissa: You know what? I understand the pain that you're feeling over Babe's death, and what it means for J.R. to remarry, especially to me. And yes, you have known J.R. for longer than I have, but I know him better than you do. All you see is a drunk who's barely hanging on, so --
Krystal: What do you see?
[Marissa sighs]
Marissa: The man that I love.
Adam: Annie is not going to go live with Ryan now.
Scott: Why not? He's opened the door. It would be one way to keep Emma from breaking, from telling the truth.
Adam: But even if Ryan accepted the truth, he's not going to give up Emma. He's -- he's her father. He'd protect her.
Scott: Well, that hasn't stopped you from selling out J.R. in the past.
Adam: That's not true. But J.R. is a grown man with a lot of self-inflicted problems. Emma is just a little girl.
Annie: God knows what Ryan would do, though, if he gets Emma to talk.
Scott: If Ryan finds out, he will make Emma tell, just to save Kendall. We cannot let that happen. Annie has to move in there.
Adam: No!
Scott: Ok, this isn't just about Emma. This is about my father, too. Think about him. He would be the last person who would want to see that little girl persecuted for this. She will have to live with his death on her conscience for the rest of her life. Spare her that. Let my father rest in peace.
Adam: Annie -- what do you feel about this?
Annie: You know there's only one person in the world who can make me leave your side, even for a short time.
Adam: Ok. All right. All right, just -- until the wedding, move in with Ryan.
Frankie: The bad dreams will be for a while. The rest of it, it's all in the past. Come here.
Angie: What did you say to him?
Jesse: That he has nothing to feel guilty about. And he should take Randi and move on with his life -- their life. What about us? Can we do the same?
Angie: I'm trying, baby.
Jesse: This family's been taking hits from all directions. Maybe this is a sign that all the bad stuff is behind us.
Angie: I hope so.
Tad: You're my son. I've always felt that way, and I always will. I've been blessed to have you in my life from the moment you were born. And, well, you and your mother have basically just met. And I can't make sense of that. I think at a time like this, it's -- it's right to say that it's not really the time you're given that counts, it's how you spend the time you have together. Either way, I think it's apropos that the two of us as your parents are here today -- the first day of your lives together as husband and wife. So, Marissa, would you like to tell J.R. why you'd like to have him as your husband?
Marissa: Um -- yes. I've met a number of people in my life who have been very lucky, blessed with many things. Some of them I've called friends, and I've had some good times. But I learned a long time ago that you never really know someone until you've seen them when the times aren't so good. I fell for you almost right from the start, J.R., but I really fell in love with you when I saw how good and strong and determined you were when faced with some of life's biggest challenges. I've always known that my soulmate would have those qualities. I just never found someone like that before, let alone fall in love with him. I'm in awe of you, J.R., and I love you more than anything.
J.R.: The first time I fell for you is when you called me out that day at the Yacht Club. Remember?
Marissa: Yes.
J.R.: Little A wandered off and you found him, and I tried to write it off as carelessness, but you came at me with both barrels. And right then and there, my heart skipped a beat, and I knew that you were no ordinary woman -- the kind of woman who's not only beautiful and intelligent, but a woman who can speak her mind and eventually share her soul. And I have seen so much in life to know that that is rare. I am so blessed to know you. And I never thought that I'd be able to fall in love again. I was so wrong, because I love everything about you, Marissa. You've already taught me so many things. But the most important thing that you've taught me can be summed up into three words. It goes on. And I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life, and go on, and grow old with you, because I love you.
Tad: Well, by all the authority vested in me by the state of Pennsylvania, and, uh, whatever the name of the website is I got this thing off of -- I -- I'm happy to pronounce you husband and wife. Now, you've already kissed the bride, but I'm sure there's nothing in the rulebook that says you can't do it again.
Krystal: That was sweet. And I -- I think you're right. I think -- I think they really do love each other.
Tad: Yeah, I think they'll be good together. J.R.'s a lucky man. I mean, it was tragic that he found Babe and then lost her. But he also found Marissa. I tell you, there's something about those Carey women. I think we should be happy for our kids. I think we should let them have now.
Krystal: Thank you -- for making me feel better.
Scott: Wow. So, you're a Chandler now. Uh-huh. Congratulations. I hope you two are very happy.
Marissa: Thank you, Scott. That means a lot.
J.R.: Thanks. Well, this would be a good time to go.
Marissa: No. We are not starting our life together hiding from your father.
[J.R. sighs]
Adam: What's going on?
J.R.: Marissa and I just got married.
Adam: Are you sober?
J.R.: Yes.
Adam: I wasn't talking to you.
Annie: Hello. I've changed my mind. I've decided to move in. I want to spend time with my daughter, and this is the only way to do it, so here I am.
Erica: And what does Adam have to say about all this?
Annie: Actually, he's all for it. Besides, traditionally, I really shouldn't be living with Adam before my big wedding, anyway, so --
Emma: What wedding?
Annie: Oh, hi. My sweetheart. I've actually been looking forward to telling you. Mommy's getting married.
Emma: To Daddy?
Annie: No. No, my love, to Adam. Isn't that exciting? We're going to have a beautiful wedding. And you get to be a flower girl.
Emma: No, no! You can't! He's not my daddy!
Annie: I know, I know. Of course not. Ryan is your daddy. And Ryan will always be your daddy, sweetheart, but -- Adam is going to be my new husband.
Emma: No, no! I hate you! I hate you!
Annie: Emma --
Erica: Well, that went over well.
Ryan: Maybe you should just head back home. Emma doesn't want you here anymore.
Jesse: So what do you say we go grab some lunch -- spend some quality time together as a family, as opposed to stressing over this or that?
Angie: Excellent idea.
Jesse: Yeah.
Angie: My purse.
[Pounding on door]
Natalia: I'll get it.
Jesse: Mr. Beardsley. We heard the news, and we are sorry for your loss.
James: May I come in?
Jesse: Yes.
James: I'm here because I have some questions regarding Madison.
Jesse: How can we help?
James: These were in Madison's possession. Somebody want to tell me what the hell they're all about?
