Annie: Good morning. Is my daughter up yet?
Nurse: Bright and early.
Annie: Great. Thank you.
Nurse: You know, we're gonna miss her around here.
Annie: "Miss her"?
Nurse: Yeah. Emma's father and Dr. Martin are making arrangements to send her home right now.
Jake: Well, looks like Dr. Kayda already cleared the little one, I don't think I could stand in the way.
Ryan: What do you think, huh? Well, she did say that she might have a little trouble remembering some things. So --
Jake: Mm-hmm. Well, with time and I think a familiar home environment, everything that's fuzzy will come back. Promise.
Erica: Ok, Adam, I got your message. I'm here. So tell me, what was so important that you didn't want to talk to me on the phone?
Adam: Kendall.
Erica: Ok, Adam, if you dragged me over here just to wag your finger in my face, just to tell me that Kendall's escape proves that she's guilty, I swear to you I'm gonna turn around, I'm gonna walk right back out that door right now!
Adam: Erica, calm -- calm down. Calm down. Come on and sit.
Erica: Not until you tell me why I'm here and what Kendall has to do with it.
Adam: I want to help her.
Jesse: So let the state police know that in the past Devane has mentioned this Special Ops friend of his up in Titusville. No contact name, though.
Zach: We got the marshals, state police. I guess we're lucky they didn't involve the FBI.
Jesse: Yeah, nobody has anything concrete yet.
Zach: How long will that luck hold out?
Jesse: Well, at least as long as I keep feeding them false leads.
Kendall: Come on. I think this looks like an old abandoned church. Looks like there has been nobody here for quite sometime, except those birds over there. You look even worse than you did before Jake treated you.
Aidan: Thanks, Kendall. I'm gonna be fine after I get some rest, and then we can get back on the road.
[Helicopter overhead]
Kendall: It's circling us. Do you think they -- they saw us come in here?
Aidan: I don't know. Hopefully we got in here just in time.
[Aidan takes out his gun]
Kendall: What are you doing? Oh, come on. Are you serious?
Aidan: I highly doubt they're looking for us with stealth Comanches, but I want to be ready just in case.
Kendall: No, no, no, no. Aidan, please put the gun away, all right? If they find us, we give up. This is not kill or be killed. Hey, come here. Sit, sit, sit, sit down. Just sit. All right, and you know what? Keep this gun away, please. I don't want to be responsible for getting you killed.
Aidan: I have no intention of getting us killed, Kendall. I'm gonna do everything I can to keep you safe and hidden until Annie pays for what she's done.
[Helicopter flies away]
Aidan: It's gone.
Kendall: Yeah. I think you're right. Thank God. All right, I think we're safe for now. You know what? This church is the perfect hiding place for the car. With some food and blankets and some medicine, I'm sure we can hide out here for a few days. Until you get better, that is.
Aidan: Yep.
Kendall: Here, let me do that. Let me get it. Ok, you shouldn't take too many of these. You just took some a few hours ago.
Aidan: Look, I've been shot before, all right, and wounded, had an infection. I know how to get through it.
Kendall: Fair enough. Ok. Well, I saw an old country store about a mile down the road. So if we're gonna stock up, I better get going. Here.
Jesse: Second thoughts?
Zach: She's doing this for me and for the boys. I just wish I didn't have to rely on Ryan and Aidan to help her do it.
Jesse: You're gonna have to rely on somebody to help at some point, Zach.
Zach: Yeah. Well, I appreciate your help, and I know I put you in a bad situation. I -- I can't sit around here doing nothing. Annie's hiding behind Emma. She's getting really good at it.
Jesse: Where you going?
Zach: I'm gonna go poke the nest.
Annie: I was just hoping that maybe there was some kind of legal trick you can pull so that my visitation rights won't expire once Emma goes home? Because they're apparently letting her out of the hospital early and -- so there's nothing you can do? Great. Thank you.
Annie: David. Hi. Can I talk to you for a second?
David: Is there a problem, Mrs. Chandler-to-be?
Annie: Um, I just found out that Emma may be released early. Is that normal? I mean, so soon after brain surgery? It just seems like Jake really wants to get her out of the hospital.
David: All right, wait. Slow down. Jake is her attending?
Annie: Yes. Dr. Kayda was her neurosurgeon, but now it seems like Jake's making all the decisions. And I was just wondering maybe, hopefully you could give me a second opinion?
Ryan: When we get you home, we're gonna take things nice and easy for a little while, ok? Maybe no school for a couple of weeks and just stay at home, you and me, and all your favorite stuffed animals. Play lots of games, read lots of stories -- all the stuff you love to do, ok? How's that sound? Good?
Emma: Will I be in trouble if I don't remember everything?
Ryan: I don't want you to worry about that at all. Ok, we don't have to talk about anything at all that you don't want to talk about. What's gonna happen is you're gonna remember everything when your brain decides it's time to. Ok? Hey, Doc?
Jake: Hmm?
Ryan: Could we get the release in the works? What do you say?
Jake: I don't think that's a problem at all. Could I have a word with the little one? Is that all right, Pop?
Ryan: Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. I will be right outside. I love you so much.
Jake: So -- how you feeling?
Emma: My head doesn't hurt anymore.
Jake: That's good. How you feeling inside?
David: Ryan. I understand Emma's scheduled to be released today?
Ryan: Yep. Any minute. The neurosurgeon already signed off on her. Now just Jake's got to.
David: I'm happy to hear that, but I haven't. And until I've signed off, she's not going anywhere.
Ryan: You have got to be kidding me.
David: No. This is no joke. It's ultimately my responsibility. I just want to make sure that there hasn't been a rush to misjudgment.
Ryan: Now, come on, David. You're a pretty clever guy. Don't you know when somebody's playing you?
Scott: Ohh.
Marissa: Morning.
J.R.: You are among the living. Although, your head and stomach must be saying otherwise.
Scott: What happened? What -- what did I do?
Marissa: You got majorly wasted. J.R. and I brought you back here to sleep it off.
Scott: Oh, my God. I can't remember the last time I got so drunk. I -- I blacked out.
J.R.: Maybe because you never had to carry around a secret like this.
Scott: "Secret"?
J.R.: Yeah. Like who really killed your father.
Erica: Ok. You got my attention. Why would you want to help Kendall?
Adam: Despite our recent differences, you and I have never really been very good at being enemies. What we're really good at is fighting for our children, and Kendall is out there right now with a target on her back. And I've already lost my brother to this madness. I really don't think that I could stand somebody else dying for this.
Erica: Kendall isn't going to die. She's too clever.
Adam: Well, she might need some help. Erica, I haven't forgotten what you did for me: How you helped me hide out when Hayward was trying to get Little Adam? Now, if Kendall should get in touch with you, I'll return the favor.
Erica: All this time, ever since she left, I have felt so alone. I can't eat. I can't sleep. It's just eating me up. It's really killing me.
Adam: Yeah.
Erica: So at a time like this --
[Erica slaps Adam]
Adam: Ooh!
Erica: I really do not need you lying to me!
Adam: That was a very sincere offer I just made.
Erica: Oh, no. It was nothing but guilt, and that's it! Because you know damn well that Kendall did not kill Stuart! Annie did! What is wrong with you, Adam? Don't you want any justice for your brother?
Adam: You know as well as I do that justice never did a damn thing to heal the hurt. I'll never see my brother again.
Erica: So you just want the person who actually killed your brother, namely Annie, to go through the rest of her life unpunished?
Adam: Just after -- after my brother died, I tried to live my life, a life that he would've wanted me to live. And I wasn't very successful. I was -- but I tried. But do you think Stuart would've wanted to bundle up this revenge because of what had been done to him? No, I don't think so. Not Stuart. He'd say that we've already suffered enough, everyone has, and why don't we just go quietly away?
Zach: Well, that's not really happening, is it, Adam? It's time to open your eyes and admit that you're about to marry the woman who killed your brother.
Scott: Who knows what I was going on about last night? Ok, I was drunk. That's what you do when you're drunk: You blather a bunch of garbage. Although, I don't have to tell you about that, do I? You have plenty of experience in drunken babbling.
J.R.: That's -- nice try there. Try to piss me off so I change the subject? Well, it's not working, Scott. And I'm getting closer to the truth. Aren't I?
Jake: So I just wanted to make sure that you feel good enough to go home. Can I tell you something? Can I tell you a story? There's this baby that I know, a little baby boy. His name is Trevor, who I love very much, and I miss him, because I don't get to see him as much as I'd like to. And it drives me crazy. drives me crazy, because there's not much I can do about it. So I feel bad sometimes, because I don't have anybody to talk to -- that's funny.
Emma: What?
Jake: Well, I was just talking about it, and then I said something to you. So I was talking to you, and I -- all of a sudden I feel better. Hmm. That's -- you're a good listener. You are definitely, definitely a good listener. Thank you very, very much. Very much. You're a good listener. Oh, and if I can ever return the favor someday, you just let me know. Ok?
Emma: It's hard when my mom and dad fight all the me.
Jake: Well, what do they -- what do they fight about?
Emma: Me.
David: All right, look, I have no intention of getting in between the two of you. Nobody in their right mind would walk into that battlefield. But Emma's surgery, her injury were serious. I just want to make sure that her care hasn't been shortchanged. Now, I'm assuming that's exactly what you would like.
Ryan: Of course, it's exactly what I would like. Emma's well-being is all I have ever cared about here. Her mother, on the other hand, seems to be a little bit more concerned with lack of access and control after she's released from the hospital.
Annie: Ryan, if you want to make this about our disagreements, that's fine. I care about Emma, and I think it's a little soon for her to be walking out of this hospital days after brain surgery.
David: Ok. All right. You two, go back to your corners. All right? I'm gonna take a look at her chart. I'm gonna discuss her case with the neurosurgeon and Dr. Martin. I will get back to you. Excuse me.
Ryan: You know, convincing Emma that she doesn't remember anything anymore is only gonna buy you a little bit of time, Annie. Because as soon as I bring her home to the penthouse where she feels safe, she is gonna tell me everything.
J.R.: If I'm coming on too strong, it's just because I want to help. You were in a lot of pain last night. And it's just not healthy to hold all that inside, whatever it is.
Scott: I'm a big boy. I can handle whatever problems I might have.
J.R.: Yeah, I know. Look, Scott, you and I -- we have come a long way. Is it something about Uncle Stuart? Is it something you know, that you can't act on?
Scott: Am I still drunk, or did he shave his ears off along with his head?
Marissa: He just wants to help.
Scott: No, I don't need your help, ok? Just leave me the hell alone.
[Scott storms out]
Marissa: You think maybe you pressured him a little too much?
J.R.: No. I think I didn't squeeze hard enough. If it is about Uncle Stuart -- and I don't know what else it could be -- I need to get over to that house and ask the questions that nobody else is.
Marissa: No, you are not going there. You have a doctor's appointment, remember, to find out how the chemo's working, and I'm not letting you miss it.
Annie: Wow. What has Kendall done to you? You are so anxious to clear her name that you would rush that little girl out of the hospital early on the off chance that she might say something incriminating about me. Wow! Ryan Lavery: Father of the year. Gosh, so wonderful, so giving. I mean, that is what people say about you, you know: Very sacrificing. Just wait until they hear what you were willing to do to that helpless little girl in there.
Jake: All right. We got this all set. You take this to the front, and she's good to go.
David: All right, hold on. I have some questions about Emma Lavery's --
Ryan: You know what, David? I just want to take my little girl out of the hospital --
Jake: It's ok. Kayda's on board. I have already examined her. She's fine.
David: Well, that's great news, but the chief of staff has some questions. Doctor?
Adam: Annie's no killer.
Zach: And you really can't see that Annie has serious problems?
Adam: You told me yourself you didn't think Annie was guilty.
Zach: Circumstances have changed my mind. Annie's the kind of woman who will do anything to get what she wants, including pretending to be in love with you.
Adam: Our love is real.
Erica: Oh, Adam, how could you be so sure?
Adam: Because she's already admitted that she was playing me.
Erica: Excuse me?
Adam: She said in the beginning she was using me to get herself out of prison and to try to keep her child. Then that turned into something real.
Zach: Now, you've known this man longer than I have. Has he lost it? Has he gone off the deep end?
Adam: In a couple of weeks she'll be my wife. And little Emma -- I'll be her stepfather, and I will bring to both of them all the power and protection that the Chandler name can bring. You can forget all about playing your little stunts, or doing anything to hurt her or keep her from her child. It's over, buddy.
Zach: You're hiding something. What is it? Did Annie tell you. Something about what happened?
Adam: I think you should leave before you're ejected.
Zach: Oh, Adam. Secrets are a dangerous thing to keep. Turn your back on them, and they can kill you.
Scott: You're right about secrets. Sometimes they can be deadlier than guns.
Kendall: Got in and out, and no one even looked at me sideways. All right. We have got food, which was a priority. Tons of water. Acetaminophen. First-aid kit. Everything that we need here -- you look horrible. Aidan, did -- did you take more of those antibiotics? You took more of them, didn't you? Have you ever taken these antibiotics before? Aidan, look at you -- oh, my God, you've got a rash. Ok, I think you're having an allergic reaction to these. Oh, my God. Ok, you are burning up. You are really, really hot. All right, all right, listen. Ok, I'm gonna put some water on you. Ok? I'll put some water on you. My God. Ok. All right. This will be nice and cold. Ok. Ok?
Aidan: That feels good.
Kendall: Ok, good. I, uh, I tried to find a thermometer, but they didn't carry any.
Aidan: I feel really hot.
Kendall: I know. I know you are. I know you are. Ok, ok, just stay with me, Aidan. Just stay with me, ok? Just stay with me, ok? Ok. You need help, Aidan. You need serious medical help. You are not only fighting an infection, but you have an allergic reaction, as well.
Aidan: Kendall, I'll know if and when I need help. Ok, trust me on that. When I promised you that I would help you, I -- I meant that I would see it through. Now, if for any reason I don't think I'm gonna make it, I will let you know, ok? Until then, just --
Kendall: Ok. All right. Ok. Well, why don't you eat something, ok? You need to get some food in your system. I got some soup. I think that'll be good for you. Oh, yeah. Chicken noodle cures all ills. I think between this and some acetaminophen, then maybe your fever will go down, get you a little better. All right, dig in.
Kendall: I'm gonna make you eat it all.
Aidan: Mmm. That's good. What is it?
Kendall: I can't get her out of my mind.
Aidan: Who? Annie?
Kendall: Yeah. What she's put me through, put you through. What she's done to all of us. I mean, Zach and I -- we finally found our way back to each other. And because of her, all I have left of him and my boys are memories.
Aidan: Kendall, don't give up hope, ok? Zach's gonna sort things out so that you can go home. Zach's gonna take care of Annie.
Zach: What'd you mean by that? "Secrets are deadlier than guns"?
Scott: I'm just agreeing with you, that's all. Maybe giving you something to think about. All you care about is your family. That doesn't make you much different from us. Chandlers are exactly the same. We will protect our family with the same determination as you will yours.
Zach: But Annie's not family. She's not a Chandler.
Scott: Ok, listen to me. Find Kendall, and then go away. Take your family someplace else. From what I understand, you've done it before. Be smart and do it again before this whole back-and-forth between our families takes another person down.
Zach: Are you done? Ok. Now, you listen to me very carefully. I will find my wife. I will reunite her with her kids. And I don't care who gets hurt or who gets killed in the process.
Erica: You were right, you know. In two weeks, everything changes.
Adam: And then Annie will be my wife.
Erica: Which gives you just enough time to pull your head out of your posterior, Adam, and wise up. This will be the wedding you regret most. That is, if you get to live.
Annie: Huh. It seems Jake doesn't really like what David has to say.
Ryan: Emma is coming home with me no matter what, today. And I will go over David's head if I have to.
Annie: How you gonna do that, Ryan? He's chief of staff.
Ryan: I'll get a court order, Annie. I will do whatever I have to do.
David: Ok. I've gone over Emma's chart extensively, and I've talked to her neurosurgeon, as well.
Annie: Great. It's nice to know there are still some checks and balances in this hospital.
David: Yes, there are. And I concur with Dr. Martin's decision to release Emma.
Annie: What?
David: Just make sure that you follow her post-op instructions to the letter, and she should be fine. If you have any further questions, I'll be in my office. Excuse me.
Ryan: Thank you.
Jake: Great. Can we talk about Emma's home-care now?
Ryan: Yes, absolutely.
Annie: She's my daughter, too. I can be involved in this, as well.
Ryan: After she gets released from the hospital, you'll have nothing to do with her.
Jake: All right, you're gonna have to take it easy on the little one. Ok, yeah, I understand everybody's under a lot of pressure, and I understand the pressure's probably coming mostly from her mom, ok, but the little one's feeling trapped. Now, she's gonna need your support. She needs to feel like she's in control of her own emotions, she's making her own decisions, ok? You want emotional damage when you go home? I don't think so. So tons and tons of TLC. Ok?
Zach: Ryan? I need a minute.
Ryan: Can it wait? I'm trying to get Emma out of here.
Zach: It involves her.
Annie: Hi, baby.
Zach: Adam's a lost cause. Keeps babbling about when he marries Annie, Annie and Emma are gonna be under the Chandler protection. We got to move fast. We're running out of time.
Ryan: I don't know what you think I can do to speed this up. I can't. There's nothing I can do here, all right? I'm not gonna pressure her. I'm not -- she's got to heal. She's very fragile right now emotionally and physically. Zach, there's nothing I can do. I don't have a choice.
Annie: So how excited are you about getting out of the hospital?
Emma: Ok.
Annie: Uh-oh. I sense something in that sweet little voice of yours. Are you scared or nervous? Or both? What is it, angel? Emma, is it being alone with Daddy? Are you scared you're not gonna be able to keep your promise to say you don't remember what happened that night? ok, sweetie. Well, don't you worry. I think I have just the solution.
Erica: Hi. Can you make sure to get these to all the nurses who volunteered at the dance marathon?
Nurse: Oh, absolutely, Ms. Kane. Thank you so much.
Erica: Oh, thank you. Thank all of you. Ok.
Jake: You know, if nobody has told you this enough, your work with the children in Africa was nothing less than inspirational.
Erica: Well, the truth is I got at least as much out of it as the children did, really. Well, I don't have to tell you about volunteer work.
Jake: Feed a child, feed your soul.
Erica: I just wish more people saw it that way.
Aidan: No more. Had enough.
Kendall: Ok. All right -- Well, you know what? You're not as warm as you were.
Aidan: I will get better. I promise you.
Kendall: All right. Well, why don't you try to get some sleep right now, ok? You rest, and I'll keep an eye out.
Aidan: Come here. Thanks.
Marissa: I am sorry.
[J.R. drops key]
Marissa: I know how much you were hoping for them to say what amazing progress you've made, and we could just go ahead and cancel the rest of the chemo.
J.R.: "Hoping for"? Sure. Expected? No. I heard exactly what I thought I'd hear: That I'm in for a long, tough fight. But thanks.
Marissa: For what?
J.R.: For reminding me of my priorities. I got myself all wound up about Scott and what he might be hiding. I thought it might be about Uncle Stuart. All that doesn't matter. It just -- it doesn't matter. What matters is this fight. And whatever's going on in that house, Scott's gonna have to deal with that on his own.
Marissa: He felt bad about bringing up your drinking. You could see it on his face the minute he said it.
J.R.: Yeah, well, I hope that that is just one-timer for him. I wouldn't want to wish that demon upon anyone. I mean, the more you bottle up things, the more you're looking for ways to kill the pain.
Marissa: Have I mentioned I'm proud of you? You've done a hell of a job keeping that demon out of your life lately.
J.R.: Yeah, well, it's been awfully hard. But I found something to take away the pain.
[J.R. and Marissa kiss, then make love]
Kendall's voice: I promise I will never turn my back on you or our family ever again. Ever. No lies, just love. I will love you, and only you, forever.
Zach's voice: I promise I will try. I will try to break up the demons that won't let me sleep at night. And I promise I will try to put out the fires that gives them life. And regardless of the past and the future, I promise I'll be here. I gave you my heart. And I don't really want it back because I -- I don't think it'll fit anymore. I think it's too big now. and, hey, who knows? Maybe those guys are right, you know, when they say we only get one ticket for this crazy merry-go-round. I kind of want to be on it with you.
Erica: Ryan, Annie's in there with Emma right now.
Ryan: Well, her time is up. Course, I got to be careful because Jake is worried about Emma's state of mind right now, and obviously so am I. Hey, Ems. You ready to get out of here? Doctor says you're cleared for takeoff.
Emma: I don't want to go home.
Ryan: Hey, what are you talking about? You heard Dr. Jake, right? He said that you're doing great. You're ready to go home. You can finish up your healing in your own bed.
Emma: I want to go to the big house with Mommy.
Scott: You all right?
Adam: Oh. Why wouldn't I be? I'm the man made of stone. Huh. Has no feelings for anyone, except myself. Ask Zach or Ryan or Erica Kane. Ask any of them. Ask anyone in town. I try to reach out. I try to touch someone, and they just push me away and call me an idiot and a liar, or both. I just -- I wonder what would happen if I told them the truth, the real truth. That a little girl, a tiny, little girl, set all this in motion. Huh. Yeah, I wouldn't -- I wouldn't be able to tell them, would I? Because little Emma would be crushed. No, there's no way the truth can ever come out. The fallout would be disastrous.
Scott: Yes, it would be. No one can know what she did.
Jesse: "She"? You mean Annie? And why is that, Adam? What did Annie do?
Marissa: What are you thinking about?
J.R.: Time.
Marissa: Do you have to be somewhere?
J.R.: That's not what I meant.
Marissa: We have all the time in the world.
J.R.: But what if we don't? What if I --
Marissa: Talking like that isn't allowed.
J.R.: But I have to. I love you, Marissa, and I don't know what I'd do without you.
Marissa: You don't have to worry about that.
J.R.: I do. Will you marry me? I want you to be my wife.
