Frankie: Dad told me you stopped by his office, that you were upset about something. Look, I know things have been a little difficult lately. That's my fault.

Randi: No, it's not your fault. Frankie, you've done nothing wrong. It's what I did.

Angie: Hey.

Jesse: Thank God. Where have you been?

Angie: At dinner with Marissa and Krystal. Why? What happened?

Jesse: I think she might be miscarrying.

Angie: No. This isn't going to happen, because God wouldn't do that. He would not bring Frankie back from the war just --

Frankie: Hey, listen to me. This is not your fault.

Randi: I don't deserve to be happy. You don't understand. I don't deserve you. I don't deserve any of this.

Angie: Well, that's enough of that kind of talk. Uh, baby, why don't you go outside and keep your father company. Right now Randi needs her mother.

Krystal: Since when did the forensic report for Liza become such an emergency?

Marissa: Oh, I just figured since we were dropping Angie off. But I'm lost. Where's the lab?

Krystal: You're not lost. And you're not looking for a forensic report. David's on duty, right?

David: Krystal. Marissa. What brings you here?

Krystal: That's a very good question.

Ryan: Where is Emma?

Liza: Ok, wait. Would you just please let him talk to her? Ok?

Ryan: Who?

Erica: Zach.

Zach: It's ok if it's a secret. You can trust me. Do you understand?

Ryan: Get away from my girl. Get away.

Zach: She was just about to talk to me.

Ryan: Hey -- hey, Sweets, you ok? Are you ok? I'm sorry that I wasn't here, all right? You don't have to talk to anybody. You know that, right? You don't have to talk to anybody.

Zach: She was just about to tell me something.

Liza: Did she say anything?

Zach: No.

Ryan: You would do just about anything to keep Kendall out of jail, wouldn't you?

Kendall: Oh, damn it! Damn it! Oh, great. Who are you? Stuart?

Adam: You killed him, didn't you? You killed my brother.

Annie: Adam, what are you doing? Put down the gun.

Adam: No! Not another step. Not another step. I know what happened. I remembered what happened up there in the attic with Emma. You put all kinds of ideas in her head. You told her she had to keep quiet. Because she saw you shoot Stuart. Didn't she? That's why you had to keep her quiet.

Annie: Yes. That's right. I had to keep her quiet, because I did it. I killed Stuart. I stood right out there holding the gun that I found, staring in at Stuart. And then I raised it and I fired. And then I just saw Stuart here and he just -- he crumpled to the ground. So then I went around the house, back in through a different door. Grabbed my child, the one I was planning on escaping the country with, but I didn't do that. Instead I -- instead I took you and her up to the attic, risking everything. Risking my daughter and my life and my freedom because -- well, because why not? Maybe I could get away with it. All I had to do was brainwash Emma, convince her she saw somebody else shoot Stuart, somebody that none of us even knew were in the house at the time. And then I just had to trust that she would stick with the story when she was talking to all the cops and lawyers and police. Yeah, I just thought it was a really genius plan. Didn't you?

Adam: I'm sorry. Please forgive me?

Annie: I don't know if I can do that.

Kendall: I've had too much to drink, that's all. This is just, uh -- my mind is just playing tricks on me. When I turn around, you'll be gone. Oh, God. Oh -- what do you want? What is this?

Stuart: I told you I just -- I'm just here to help you.

Kendall: How can you help me if you're just a creation of my drunken, stressed out mind? Or maybe -- maybe I created you to -- to help me make sense of all of this. I didn't kill you. I didn't pull that trigger. Did you see who did?

Stuart: Oh, my back was turned. I didn't see. You know that.

Kendall: Yeah, I guess so.

Stuart: I just want to help you find the truth.

Kendall: But if you're just a part of my -- my fried brain, how can you help me see something that I don't already know? I don't know. I guess that doesn't make any sense.

Stuart: Well, maybe the truth is behind you.

Kendall: You mean the truth is right in front of me.

Stuart: No. I mean behind you, as in the past. The day I was killed.

Marissa: Where's the lab?

David: First floor. Take a right out of the elevator.

Marissa: Ok. I need to pick up a report for Liza for the case.

David: Right.

Marissa: I'll be right back.

David: She's not very good at it, is she?

Krystal: Playing matchmaker? No, she isn't.

David: Well, we are her parents. I suppose it's only logical that she'd want to see us together again.

Krystal: Logical, yes -- if that was something both of us wanted.

David: No, you're right. I don't deserve a second chance from anyone, least of all, you. After everything that's gone down here the past few months, I know it's gonna take some time for me to convince anyone to trust me again.

Krystal: Except your daughter.

David: Huh. Well, thank God for that. So what do you think? Any chance you and I might try to rebuild that trust again?

Krystal: I'll probably take the longest to convince.

David: Ok. Thanks for the heads-up.

Randi: You don't understand, Angie. You've done so much for me. I really feel like you are my mother. And just hearing you say that, it means so much to me.

Angie: Well, I'm glad to hear that. Because you're family whether you like it or not. You know, you do have some work ahead of you, uh, to get through this. But you're one of the strongest young women that I know.

Natalia: Hey. I just heard. Is -- is Randi ok?

Frankie: I don't know. I don't know. Have you noticed anything different lately about Randi? I mean, has she been acting strange to you?

Ryan: I know exactly what you were trying to do, Zach. You're trying to get Emma to say what you want her to say.

Zach: I was trying to get the truth.

Ryan: The whole reason that we brought her here was to keep her from being interrogated. And here you guys just show up, and you're mentally beating her up like this.

Zach: That's not fair. We're trying to keep her safe.

Ryan: Well, you didn't do a very good job, did you? Did you see her in there curled up in a ball? I want you two out of here. Ok? Both of you. This is my daughter. Ok? She's not yours and not Kendall's. Stay away from her.

[Door closes]

Erica: You heard him. Get out.

Zach: Before Ryan came in just now, Emma was about to confide in me. And she needs that. She needs to talk to someone. She needs to tell someone the truth. If Emma's keeping this secret for her mother, from her father, she's not gonna talk to them. And now Ryan's shut me out. She's not gonna talk to me. She's not gonna talk to her. She needs to talk to someone, and maybe that someone's you. You talk to her. Try... for Kendall. Come on.

Ryan: Sweetie, I am so sorry that Liza and Zach got on you like that. Ok? I'm sorry if they scared you. All right? I know that they're trying to get you to say things that maybe you don't want to say. And I want you to know that that's all right. That's ok, and I totally and completely understand. Ok? You ok? Honey? It's me. It's your daddy. Emma? Emma, what is it? What's wrong?

Krystal: Did you get the report you needed? You don't have to play matchmaker. It's not gonna work. Ok? David and I are just -- we're just plain bad for each other.

Marissa: But he's trying to change, be a better person.

Krystal: I would like to believe that, but I have been down that road so many times. David never changes. Ok? He just switches masks.

David: Colby. Hi. Is Liza here?

Colby: Uh, no, she's not. You'll have to come back.

[Baby cries]

David: Cry doesn't sound normal. I'm gonna check to make sure everything's all right.

Angie: No news yet. But I'm gonna go to the lab and check her HGC levels. Baby, why don't you go on in with her.

Natalia: Hey. What's gotten you all Mr. Cool and Serious lately?

Jesse: Oh, it's just this case. Somebody I think is completely innocent stands a really good chance of being convicted of killing an old friend of mine. And, hey, aren't you taking this investigative cop thing a little far? I mean, you're over here grilling me like you're a detective.

Natalia: I guess that's the part I inherited from you. I notice things. From Mom, I got the mouth. I like to speak what's on my mind. Sorry if that upsets you in any way.

Jesse: Can you give me a second, Detective? What the hell are you doing here?

Madison: Ease up, Chief Hubbard. I'm here picking up a prescription. I've been having trouble sleeping lately since my husband met such an untimely end.

Jesse: I know about the gift you sent Randi.

Madison: "Gift"?

Jesse: The bookend? It really shook her up. She's in there right now quite possibly losing her baby.

Madison: I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Oh. You mean the bookend that I saw you with when you were moving my husband's body out of the hotel?

Jesse: You mean to tell me it doesn't bother you at all that you could be the reason that another woman loses her baby?

Madison: We all lose things in life. I just lost my husband because of her. Actually, there's something quite karmic about this. Watch the temper. Look at what happened when Randi lost hers: Somebody died.

Randi: Tell me something about the future. Tell me how we're gonna redo the apartment and have a big, beautiful baby room.

Frankie: See, I'm not gonna have an apartment for my family. We're gonna have a big house with a backyard.

Randi: For a garden?

Frankie: No, no. For a dog.

Randi: A dog?

Frankie: Yeah. A big guy. Maybe a Golden Retriever or a Great Dane.

Randi: I love you so much, more than you will ever know. And no matter what happens, that's never gonna change.

Madison: Mrs. Hubbard. I'm Madison North. I've heard so much about you. Your dear husband has been so kind to me during such a difficult time. He was just asking me if there was anything else he could do to help me. You have quite a special man here.

Angie: Yes. I know.

Madison: Well, I must get going. Thank you again.

Jesse: You're welcome.

Madison: Mrs. Hubbard.

Angie: You want to tell me why she was gushing over you like that? You hated her husband.

Jesse: She was telling me how much she appreciated the way I handled things after the accident.

Angie: Which I don't think was an accident.

Ryan: Hey. You and I are a team, right? You can always feel safe to tell me anything, all right? I want you to know that. You should never be scared to talk to your dad. Ok? Please? Emma, please? Don't shut down on me. Ok?

Erica: Ryan? Uh, why don't you give Emma and me some time together, ok? Excuse me. Because sometimes a girl just needs to talk to another girl.

Ryan: Ok. I love you, sweetheart. I love you so much.

Erica: You know what, Emma? I think I know how you feel. I have felt like you. You think you feel a little unhappy, and you don't know exactly why you're unhappy. It doesn't help when everybody keeps asking you why you're unhappy. But you know what? I did find two things that actually make me feel a little bit better. Would you like to hear what they are? Ice cream and shopping. Oh, I know there's nowhere around here to go shopping, but how about some ice cream instead?

[Thunder]

Adam: I'm still so confused. Some of the time I -- I just can't -- I can't think clearly. But when I heard you and Emma in the attic, it's -- it just all seemed to fit together. It made sense. But the more I think about it, the less sense it made. It didn't make any sense at all. I'm sorry. You had no reason to come back for me that night.

Annie: More important, I had no reason to kill you, Adam. I am the only person that was in this house that night that did not want to kill you.

Adam: Yeah. Hayward's drugs are pretty much out of my system by now. But I'm still -- I'm still confused and so alone.

Annie: It's also because the person that killed your brother, the person that wanted you dead, is still out there. And with Kendall still free, you don't get closure.

Stuart: Remember, Kendall. Remember. Think. Go back. After the lights went out, and it was thundering and lightning and you found a gun. And you wanted to use it on the man you thought was Adam.

Kendall: But I couldn't. I couldn't do it. So I dropped the gun and I ran. And then I tripped. I -- I looked back, but then I kept going.

Stuart: Yes.

Kendall: And then -- and then I heard the gun go off.

Stuart: Yeah. All right, go back. Go back again. Think. Think again. What else did you see?

Kendall: I -- I saw you and -- and Zach. Zach was in the doorway.

Stuart: Yeah. And what else?

Kendall: Just -- just Zach and you. And --

Stuart: Yes?

Kendall: Emma. Emma was there.

[Thunder]

Kendall: Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Did I do it? Is that -- is that why you're here? Was -- was Emma really telling the truth? Are you my guilty conscience?

Rachael: You ok?

Kendall: Uh, I -- I have to go. Be right back.

[Thunder]

Rachael: Kendall? Maybe it's not a good idea for you to go out right now.

Kendall: I -- I won't be gone long. I'm gonna walk.

Erica: Ok. You know what I think? I think maybe you're a little bit tired. Huh? It's late. Been a long day for everybody, especially a little girl. Want to get under the covers, go to sleep? There you go. Ok. I'll leave the light on, ok? I'll be right outside with your daddy.

Ryan: How is she? Does she want me to tuck her in?

Erica: Maybe not tonight. She's already in bed. I think she's maybe just a little overwhelmed, a little tired. Maybe some sleep will help.

Ryan: She's just a little girl. You know, why does she have to be caught in the middle of all this insanity? Why does she have to be the one that gets hurt?

Erica: Oh. You know what? I was just thinking about something. Ryan, when I was attacked when I was a young girl, I remember my mother asked the same thing. And she didn't have any answers either, she didn't, in what to say. And, of course, back then, they just didn't even think about bringing in any professionals.

Ryan: She doesn't need anybody, any strangers, in her face right now, Erica. Zach was plenty.

Erica: Well, I just really am talking about people who are professionals, who see this kind of thing all the time. And they know the right questions to ask. They know the right things to say. They could help Emma. Just think about it.

Zach: I was this close to getting the truth out of Emma, and then Ryan had to --

[Zach sighs]

Liza: Look, how do you know that what Emma said isn't the truth? That she did see Kendall shoot Stuart?

Zach: I know because I know that Kendall is innocent. And now talking to Emma, I know that Annie must've planted something into her. We just got to prove it.

Liza: Well, you know Ryan is never gonna let anybody near Emma now. And Kendall is still going to trial.

Zach: I'm calling Jesse. I'm sure he knows a doctor that can ease this information out of Emma without hurting her.

Liza: Well, Ryan will never forgive you for that.

Zach: I don't really care.

Angie: I checked out the autopsy report on North. I brought you forensic evidence indicating that he may have died before the car accident, and you do nothing about it. Case closed: Not like you at all. What is it, Jesse? Is it Zach? I mean, do you think maybe he had something to do with it? Or maybe Kendall?

Jesse: Henry North was a very bad man, worse than you can even imagine, baby.

Angie: Oh, my God. You did see him. When you went to D.C., you --

Jesse: Baby, I did not kill that man. Angela, look at me. I did not kill Henry North.

[Phone rings]

Jesse: Hold on. Hubbard.

Zach: Jesse, it's Zach. Ryan and Emma are at 255 Ridgewell Road. I'll talk to you soon.

Jesse: Hey. Get your uniform. I need you on an assignment.

[Thunder]

David: Oh, hey.

Marissa: What are you doing here?

David: Relax. I came to see Liza. The baby was crying.

Colby: Oh, I hope the thunder doesn't wake him up again. Hey. Uh, David got the baby quiet again. He knew just what to do. But, um, you should go. My mom should be here soon, and she won't want you here.

David: You know, actually, I think I'm gonna stick around. The baby seems like he has a low-grade fever. In case it gets worse, I want to make sure I'm here to get him to the hospital.

Zach: Where's Kendall?

Rachael: She went out.

Zach: "She went out"?

Rachael: She had a couple drinks. Said she was walking somewhere. Didn't say where.

Liza: So where do you think she went?

Zach: It's ok. I got it covered.

Liza: No, Zach, it's all right. I'll stay with you.

Zach: I got it covered. Go home. Check on your baby. We'll call you in the morning.

[Alarm]

Annie: She just broke in here. Call the police.

Kendall: Stuart? Oh, Stuart.

Adam: Oh, you just wait. I'll -- I'll handle this.

Annie: What are you talking about? You need to call the police.

[Alarm stops]

Adam: You're returning to the scene of your crime?

Kendall: I don't want to hurt you.

Adam: But you did, Kendall, that night.

Annie: Ok. I am calling security back in here.

Adam: No, no.

Kendall: I'm --

Adam: Yes? Is there something you want to say to me?

Kendall: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry about your brother.

Annie: She got away. This new crack security team is turning it a big fat failure.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

[Line rings]

Zach: Yes, Adam? How can I help you?

Adam: Yeah, I thought you might be looking for your wife.

Zach: Go on.

Adam: Yeah, she was just here. She'd broken into my house. I found her looking down at the place where she left my murdered brother. I'm a bit worried about her. She had a wild look in her eyes, and she kept muttering my brother's name. Now, if this is all some kind of an act to lay pipe for an insanity defense, forget about it.

[Line disconnects]

Adam: Hello? Huh. Call Willis. Tell him that I have something for him. Just -- just go on. Call.

David: Ahh. Good evening. Marissa was here. She left that for you. Colby's in with the baby. He's got a slight fever. Me? I'm fine, thanks.

Liza: David, um, what -- what are you doing here?

David: Hmm. Boy, that -- that is a loaded question: "What am I doing here?" Boy. Hmm. I don't know. Maybe I'm here to prove to myself that I can have friends, even relationships, where a child isn't a factor.

Liza: So you -- you came over here to test yourself?

David: Uh-uh. Actually, I think I came here to see you.

Frankie: I am looking forward to the rest of my life with you. And our baby is gonna be as beautiful and strong as you are inside and out.

Randi: Ow!

Frankie: What --

Randi: Ow! Oh, God, Frankie!

Liza: David, I guess I fall into that category of people that don't believe you. You see, I just -- I don't buy that you came over here to see me. Besides, I'm not in the market for friends. I've got my family now. After a long time, I finally have my Colby and my baby.

David: Well, then I guess I'm projecting. I see a lot of myself in you, Liza. You and I, we're very similar people.

Liza: We are?

David: Yeah.

Liza: Hmm.

David: Whenever I look into other people's faces, I see suspicion. Many times, fear, even from those who once loved me. But whenever you look at me, I don't see that. I have never sensed fear from you, Liza. Not once. Now, suspicion -- that is something I've often seen. But not fear. And I can work with that.

Liza: What makes you so sure that I'm gonna let you work with anything?

David: Let's just say it's a sneaking suspicion.

Adam: I appreciate you coming over here personally, Mr. Willis. Ahem. I've added a hidden camera when we updated the security system.

Annie: What? You didn't tell me that.

Adam: Didn't I? Oh. Sorry.

[Alarm]

Annie's voice: She just broke in here. Call the police.

Kendall's voice: Stuart? Oh, Stuart.

Adam: And then she said this.

Adam's voice: Is there something you want to say to me?

Kendall's voice: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry about your brother.

Adam: Ahem. Well, I've made an extra copy for you in case you want to use it for trial.

A.D.A. Willis: Thank you. I'll consider it.

[Door closes]

Annie: So you have been recording everything that's happened in here?

Adam: Yes, yes. I love gadgets. I like to keep up with the latest technology.

Annie: Yeah. So, um, what -- what else have you seen?

Adam: Oh. Well, just this and that, you know. Annie, how long have you been planning our wedding?

Jesse: Ryan, open the door. It's Jesse.

Angie: Ryan, what's wrong?

Ryan: My daughter needs help.

Zach: Kendall?

Kendall: I did it. I shot Stuart.
