Randi: Hey.
Angie: My macaroni and cheese casserole you love so much. For you and that bundle of joy on the way.
Randi: Sounds great. Come in.
Angie: All right, just for a few minutes. I thought we could watch the press conference together.
Frankie: What press conference?
Angie: Well, the coroner finished his report on the D.A. Your dad is going to announce the cause of death.
Randi's voice: He's dead, isn't he? I killed him.
[As she recalls Henry's death, Randi feels faint]
Frankie: Hey, oh.
Angie: Sweetheart.
Natalia: One day before Kendall Slater's supposed to go on trial, and the D.A. shows up dead. Talk about some weird timing.
Jesse: Sometimes justice comes from outside the law.
Randi's voice: You're sure that this is gonna work?
Jesse's voice: Yeah. It has to.
Natalia: You're glad North's dead, aren't you?
Reporter: In just a few moments, we'll be hearing from Police Chief Jesse Hubbard. He's set to release the coroner's findings in the sudden death of District Attorney Henry North. This --
Kendall: So I just got an e-mail from Liza saying she's on her way over to discuss my case. Zach, I told you that woman is not going to be my lawyer.
Zach: She's available, and she's good.
Kendall: You didn't just hire Liza because she's a good lawyer and her calendar is open. There's some other reason. Now, this is my life on the line, so please tell me what it is.
Colby: Can I take Stuart out on the grounds? I won't leave the club. It's just so nice out.
Liza: Sure. Sure, but if you see David Hayward out there, would you come right back, please? I don't want him anywhere near your little brother.
Colby: Why would David care about Stuart?
Liza: Because he -- honey, he somehow thinks that the baby is his.
Tad: Hey.
Jake: Hey. I was waiting. I was waiting and waiting and nobody's -- Where -- where have you been?
Tad: Where have I been? I've been doing detective stuff -- for you. I mean, you are aware that David's been sniffing around, trying to figure out whether or not Liza's kid is his, right?
Jake: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, don't worry about that. Krystal said that he's backing off.
Tad: Well, in that case, then why is he running a secret DNA test at a private lab?
David: We should have the results sometimes this morning.
Marissa: I hope he's not your son.
David: You're the one who gave me access to his DNA. I thought you were on my side.
Marissa: No, I am, I am, but if Liza has been passing off your baby as hers, that means they all faked a baby's death.
David: That's a disturbing thought.
Marissa: Yeah, it's sick. I don't get how anyone could do that, especially her.
Zach: There's no secret reason why I hired Liza. She'll get the job done, bottom line.
Kendall: No. Zach, I did not agree to this. Come on, Zach, I said no.
[Door closes]
Colby: He thinks you somehow switched the babies or something? I guess David would go there. Stealing a baby is something he would do. He's that selfish and evil.
David: Look, I, um -- I got to get back to work. I'll call you as soon as the DNA results come in, ok?
Marissa: Ok.
David: You ok?
Amanda: Go away.
David: You had an appointment with Dr. Samson.
Amanda: And you're spying on me.
David: I just want you to know that I think you're very brave. I wish I had the guts to go to therapy about all of this. But once I started talking about our son, the pain of losing him, I think I would fall apart, and I don't think I could pull it back together. Look, I'm sorry. I just -- I think it's great that you've found a way to deal with this.
Amanda: David. I haven't pulled it back together.
David: Listen, um, something really strange happened to me yesterday. I ran into Liza and her son, and I felt this connection to the boy, and it was so intense, it was so real. I couldn't understand it.
Amanda: I get it. I felt it, too.
Tad: Didn't you hear me?
Jake: Yes.
Tad: David's running a DNA test. Why aren't you freaking out?
Jake: I don't have any reason to freak out.
Tad: What are you talking about? Your entire plan is about to get blown to hell because David is gonna find out that little bundle of joy that Liza's been toting all over town is his kid.
Jake: All right, calm down. Just calm down.
Tad: Don't tell me to calm down. Do you know what's gonna happen when Amanda finds out that you gave away her baby to Liza? I'll tell you what. She's gonna leave you. You're going to lose your wife, right after we lose that baby to Hayward.
Jake: Calming it down. I got it all under control, ok?
Jesse: North was as dirty as they come, but it doesn't mean I'm happy he's dead.
Officer: They're ready for you, Chief.
Jesse: Send them in.
Randi: I just got a little dizzy. What time is that press conference?
Frankie: Forget that. You need to relax, eat.
Randi: I want to watch it.
Jesse: Good morning. I'm Chief Jesse Hubbard. Two days ago, Delamont County District Attorney Henry North was in the Washington, D.C., area on business. He was driving a rental car when that vehicle went over a cliff and exploded on impact. The coroner has performed an autopsy, and I have his findings. Mr. North died from injuries sustained during that accident. It is believed he fell asleep at the wheel. Assistant D.A...
Randi: I need to go use the rest room.
Jesse: Andrew Willis is taking over a number of Mr. North's cases.
Angie: Your father looks so tense.
Frankie: He hates the spotlight.
Angie: No. It's more than that.
Jesse: ....Trial will be postponed...
Frankie: You still think he has something to do with North's death?
Angie: No, but he hasn't been himself since that night, and every time I try to bring it up, he just shuts me down.
Rachel: I have no idea when Kendall will be back, but she left a note for you.
Liza: "Not interested." We'll see about that, hmm?
Rachel: Excuse me. Kendall's not here.
Liza: So the sports car outside and the expensive purse is yours? Yeah. I'll wait.
Kendall: Thank you, Rachel. Didn't you get my note? You must not be a very good lawyer if you can't read.
Liza: We'd better get started, Kendall. There's a lot to do.
Kendall: Ok. I -- I don't want you to represent me, because I hate you.
Liza: Well, I am not particularly fond of you either.
Kendall: Well, then why are you doing this?
Liza: Because I am doing a favor for Zach.
Taylor: Hey, I think you missed a spot.
Brot: Hey.
Taylor: Hey.
Brot: What are you doing here?
Taylor: Well, weren't you looking for this?
Brot: Yes, I was. Thank you. Where did you find it?
Taylor: It was in my purse. Remember you put it in there the night with that confusion?
Brot: Yes, I do. Thank you for bringing it by.
Taylor: Sure. No problem. How are you?
Brot: I'm good. You know, just busy. I've actually started to hang out with a bunch of the guys, and, you know, we play poker, eat pizza, the usual.
Taylor: Some people never change.
Brot: Yeah. You look nice.
Taylor: Thanks. I'm going to brunch.
Brot: A date?
Taylor: It's not a date. It's just a meeting. You know, it's like an eating meeting. Just a friend. You know -- Tad.
Brot: I hope it goes well.
Taylor: It's not a date. I just hope I don't do something like spill my plate into my lap. You know me -- I need a bib. Well, I don't want to be late, so I'll see you. Hey, Brot, um... I'm sorry.
Brot: Taylor, you have nothing to apologize for.
Zach: Is it over? You sure?
Randi: I feel so much better.
Angie: Well, that's good. I'm glad. I should get to the hospital. And you -- make sure you take care of your wife.
Frankie: I, uh -- I know it's just not morning sickness. Something else is bothering you, and I think I know exactly what it is.
Zach: You took an oath. What's gonna happen to Randi?
Jesse: Randi's going to have a baby, and that baby's going to need a mother. You of all people should understand. So my oath, my duty is to protect that family.
[Knock on door]
Officer: Someone's here to see you.
Kendall: I know. I know. You throw my case. I get a life sentence, and you get my husband.
Liza: Kendall, I am not like you and Erica. I don't need to possess every man that I meet. Zach needed a brilliant lawyer, and he got one.
Kendall: Modest as always.
Liza: You don't need modest. Kendall, you need driven, ambitious, and hungry. You know, your trial is gonna be on the front page every morning and lead the news every night, and when I win, you will not only be free, but I will be a rock star.
Kendall: You being selfish -- I can buy that.
Liza: I would also like a fresh start. I have a child now, and I don't want sleeping with your husband to be how my homecoming is remembered.
Kendall: Henry North was sure that he could convict me, so what makes you think you can get me off? I went to the Chandler Mansion to kill Adam. I was seen on the terrace with a gun in my hand -- the murder weapon. The new prosecutor will use all of that ammunition.
Liza: That's exactly why I'm gonna put you on the stand, and when I do, you'll see why I'm the best.
Madison: Did you tell the chief yet? I know what really happened to my husband. Over the years, Henry enjoyed quite a bit of extracurricular activity. I hired private detectives to keep tabs on him. Picked up a few tricks of the trade. Those security tapes from the hotel in Washington are missing because I took them. I saw the hooker who was with my husband the other night. I saw her arrive, saw her leave and come back, and then you arrived. Later, the two of you wheeled out Henry's dead body on a room service cart. That hooker murdered my husband, and you helped her cover it up.
Jesse: Randi is not a hooker. She is my daughter-in-law, and there's no way in hell I would ever let that rapist, dead-though-he-may-be husband of yours destroy her life. Do you hear me?
Frankie: You're gonna be a mom. That's huge. I know it's tough not having your own mom here now, but look at you. Career woman, wife, mama-to-be. You've overcome so much to create a beautiful life, a beautiful future. I think your mom would be proud. You're gonna be the best mother a kid could ever have.
Randi: I love you.
Frankie: I love you, too, which is why I can read your mind.
Randi: Really?
Frankie: Yeah, and we're gonna do exactly what you want, so come on. Let's get out of here. Yeah.
Madison: My husband was not a rapist. Don't you dare turn this around on him. Your daughter-in-law was cheating on your son.
Jesse: You need to get your facts straight. She would never do that.
Zach: Randi met your husband many years ago. They got serious, and he wanted to have a life with her. Well, Randi does have a life now, with Jesse's son.
Jesse: Listen, I can take it from here, Zach. Go on. Please go.
Zach: Ok.
Jesse: Your husband was obsessed with my daughter-in-law. He was pressuring her to get back together with him.
Madison: So she was the one -- the one that my husband could never forget about.
Jesse: Oh, but she forgot about him. You see, she loves her -- she is in love with her husband, my son, the father of the baby she's carrying. She went to D.C. to convince him to back off. He refused. She tried to leave his hotel room. He tried to rape her. He didn't succeed, but you know what? You can change all that. You can make old, dead Henry proud -- pick up right where he left off and rape her with the law.
Taylor: Yacht Club. Brunch.
Tad: OH. Oh, God. Taylor -- um, Taylor, I'm so sorry, honey. I -- I -- I really am so sorry. I don't know what to tell you. It just completely slipped my mind. It's been chaos around here.
Taylor: Well, we'll have to do it again sometime.
Tad: No. No, listen. I mean it. I really am sorry. I mean, I may be forgetful, but I'm not stupid. I mean, there's simply no way I'm gonna let you go.
David: I just can't seem to let it go. I mean, that moment of connection with Liza's baby -- it was so powerful. I just couldn't help but wonder -- look, I'm sorry. You probably want to go home.
Amanda: No, tell me. What?
David: I just couldn't help but wonder if -- if Liza's baby is our son. Think about it. Think about it. Liza gave birth a short time after you did, right? Well, Jake delivered both babies. Well, maybe Liza knew that her baby would be stillborn or -- I don't know. Maybe she wasn't pregnant at all, and Jake made a deal with her -- you know, offering her our son.
Amanda: That's crazy. You're crazy. I'm out of here.
[Cell phone rings]
David: Finally. What does the DNA say?
Kendall: Why am I even taking the stand?
Liza: Because the prosecution line-up -- it's a list of your nearest and dearest, and we need to counter that. But if you're scared --
Kendall: Of you? Hell, no.
Liza: Mrs. Slater, where were you immediately before you went to the Chandler Mansion?
Kendall: At the Pine Valley Hospital
Liza: And why were you there?
Kendall: Because my son Ian was very sick. The heart valve that was implanted was defective.
Liza: A valve that was made and pushed by whose company?
Kendall: Adam Chandler's, even though it wasn't ready.
Liza: Now, while you were at the hospital, a nurse gave you some news that your son wasn't going to make it. Can you tell us about that?
Kendall: I was looking down at Ian, holding his hand, thinking that what was happening couldn't be real. And then the nurse said...
Liza: Do you -- do you want to take a break?
Kendall: No. No, no.
Liza: Ok, what did you do right after the nurse gave you the news?
Kendall: I went to the Chandler Mansion.
Liza: Mm-hmm. And what did you find there?
Kendall: Uh, the power was out, and so I stumbled over a gun that was on the ground, and so I picked it up.
Liza: Ok, and then what did you do?
Kendall: So then I looked all over the house for Adam, but I couldn't find him. Uh, I finally ended up on the terrace, and that's where I saw him -- or at least, I thought it was him. So then I -- I picked up the gun, and I aimed it at the man I believed killed my son.
Liza: Did you pull the trigger?
Kendall: I wanted to. I wanted to so badly, but I couldn't. I couldn't do it. Killing Adam wouldn't bring Ian back, and that's all I wanted. I just wanted my baby back.
Zach: What are you doing to her?
Tad: Ok, ta-da.
Taylor: The nuts were good. I ate the whole can.
Tad: Yeah. I can see that. I'm sorry I took so long. So I'm guessing you're not exactly feeling up for Eggs Benedict at the Yacht Club, huh?
Taylor: Can I be honest?
Tad: Sure.
Taylor: I'm not really much of a Yacht Club kind of girl.
Tad: Well, that's great. You know, not because of this fiasco. I mean, it's great because I -- I -- actually, I feel the same way. Um... uh, ok. Well, it's not exactly the Taj Mahal or the best restaurant in town, but would you -- would you mind hanging out here?
Taylor: Sounds like a plan.
Tad: OK. Please.
Taylor: Ooh!
Tad: Oh! Oh, man.
Taylor: Damn it.
Tad: Oh.
Taylor: Yeah. See, this is why I never wear skirts.
Tad: I'll get it.
Taylor: That's why I never wear white.
Tad: No, it's fine, seriously. You know, a little water --
Taylor: Yeah, this was a big mistake. I should never have come here. Um, I should never have gone there, actually. I'm such a total idiot. Would you stop that?
Tad: Go where? I mean, go there -- go where?
Taylor: Oh, I -- I went to the hospital to return Brot's work pager to him before I came here.
Tad: His pager?
Taylor: Yeah.
Tad: Where was it?
Taylor: It was in my -- my purse.
Tad: OH. Well, I guess he didn't take it very well, huh?
Taylor: No. Actually, he, um, was very sweet, and I was really nice, and it was really hard. And not because I want to get back together with him. It's just you have to understand that for a really long time, you know, he was my plan. He was my -- my forever. He was my future, and, um -- and now what? And now what? Now what do I do? I don't -- I don't have a clue. I don't even have a job, actually. So that's it. Pity party's over. How are you doing?
Tad: I wish somebody would put another bullet in my head.
Madison: What you say happened in that hotel room is shocking, but I believe you. I am not a vindictive woman, but I am practical. This is Henry's insurance policy. It's in the amount of $10 million.
Jesse: That's a lot of money.
Madison: Well, according to my accountants, Henry spent a lot more of my money than I had realized. This payout will help to ease the pain. So if you could speak with the appropriate parties and make sure that I am paid in a timely manner, I'll be eternally grateful. And by the way, I destroyed those surveillance tapes. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Liza: We were prepping for court.
Zach: I hired you to help Kendall, not to mess with her head.
Liza: Where Kendall is right now is exactly where she needs to be when I put her on that stand. When Kendall Slater cries, the whole jury will cry with her, and they will send her home to her family, guaranteed.
Zach: Nice to see you so invested.
Liza: Ha ha. Invested. Yes, well, partially because you threatened to tell the whole world he is not my son.
Zach: I had to know I can trust my lawyer.
Liza: Right, with the dead D.A.'s plans. You never did tell me how you got North's file. Yeah. Well, when Kendall pulls it together, she will realize that she does have the best lawyer, and we will all get exactly what we want.
[Knock on door]
[Baby crying]
Marissa: Hey. Is your mom home?
Colby: No. Uh, but I'll tell her you stopped by.
Marissa: Need a hand with the baby before she gets back? I do have the magic touch.
Colby: I can handle it.
Marissa: Did I do something wrong?
Colby: It's -- it's not you. It's your dad. He thinks baby Stuart is really his son. Yeah. My mom's totally freaked out, and she wants me to keep the baby away from David.
Marissa: Colby, I'm not my father, and you need help.
Colby: I'm sorry. Come in.
[Baby crying]
Marissa: Hi, sweetie.
[Baby stops crying]
Marissa: You know, I really am sorry about David, but grief is hard to shake. I'm still trying to work through the loss of my parents. But a baby? God, I can't even imagine what Amanda must be feeling, especially around this little one.
Colby: Amanda saw Stuart right after he was born. She was kind of rocky, but she didn't get crazy like David.
[Knock on door]
David: You promised me those DNA results an hour ago. Listen to me. You remember those tests that you botched a few years back that nobody found out about? Well, I promise you they will come to light if you don't get me those damn results within the hour. Oh!
Brot: What the --
David: Oh, for crying out loud. Look, just clean this up. If a patient slips, you're in for a lawsuit.
Brot: It was your fault.
David: Excuse me?
Brot: I said it was your fault. I didn't do it.
David: Just do your damn job.
Brot: You know what? You're right. It does need to be cleaned up -- by you. I quit.
Jake: Well, well. Back on janitor duty, just where you belong. It's a good look for you. This doesn't work.
David: [Sigh] Your wife ran off crying a little while ago. You just missed her.
Jake: Really?
David: Yeah.
Jake: I'm sure it's something you said to her. Harassing her about Liza's baby. Working that delusion that he's yours, somehow or another.
David: I see Krystal's been shooting her mouth off again. Apparently she left out the part where I said I'm gonna back off. I know that baby boy's not mine.
Jake: Really?
David: Yeah.
Jake: What finally convinced you?
David: Amanda. She loved our son. If that boy had lived, I don't think she could have given him away, especially not to someone in Pine Valley. No. That would be torture. And her adoring husband wouldn't put her through something like that.
Amanda: Um, I came to see Liza.
Colby: She's not here. I actually have to put the baby down.
Amanda: Can -- can I hold him first?
Marissa: It'll be fine.
Colby: Sure. It's time for his nap.
Jake: So that's it, babe. Look, Amanda, I know that David's giving you a hard time. Just call me, ok? We'll talk about it. Just call me.
Angie: Hey, listen, I need your help with something...
Jake: Sure.
Angie: That requires breaking a few rules.
Jake: Well, it's not like we haven't done that a couple of times. What are we cracking David for this time?
Angie: No, this has nothing to do with David. I need to see the autopsy report of Henry North.
Randi: You were so right. This is exactly what I needed.
Frankie: You are one gorgeous pregnant woman.
Brot: Say what, now? Did I hear that right? A little Hubblette is on the way?
Frankie: You heard right, yes.
Brot: Oh, that's cool, man. Come on. Give me some love. Give me some love. Congratulations. Congratulations.
Frankie: Come on now. Have a seat.
Brot: All right, all right. Listen, really, I am happy for you guys. I really am. You guys have come a long way.
Frankie: Thank you.
Brot: Although I am a little jealous because you guys did work it out. But, hey, to the perfect couple, right?
Jesse: Is everything ok? Where'd you get this?
Angie: Why did the coroner only perform a cursory autopsy? There's hardly anything there.
Jesse: Well, there was hardly anything left of North. The man was practically incinerated.
Angie: When he crashed, his head hit the windshield with enough force to crack it. He should have a broken neck. There is no evidence of that in this report.
Jesse: The man died in an accident. Leave it alone, Angela.
Angie: I can't.
Jesse: Why? What are you thinking?
Angie: I'm thinking if you don't start answering my questions, I'll start worrying you killed him.
Kendall: She's -- she's good. We might even win.
Zach: I'm glad you can see that.
Kendall: Yeah. Well, I also see that Liza's a liar, and you're still holding out on me. I don't understand, Zach. How did you get her to take the case? What, are you still sleeping with her again?
Zach: See, all I'm trying to do is help you, but you can't trust that. You just see betrayal.
Kendall: Zach, why don't you just admit it? You still want her.
Zach: We were together once when I was single. You -- uh-uh. You and Ryan had a full-blown love affair right here in this house while you were married to me. Don't talk to me about betrayal.
Jake: Why didn't you return any of my calls? I've been worried sick about you. I've been calling --
Amanda: Every time I see Liza's baby, I feel this intense connection. My son's not with some nice couple out in the country, is he?
Jake: You've been letting Hayward get into your head, haven't you? He is desperate for a child. I can't figure it out. He can't have yours. He can't have J.R.'s, and now he's fixated on Liza's, for some reason. He's got problems, honey. He's got problems.
Amanda: You're lying.
Marissa: Hey. I was just at Liza's, and Amanda showed up. She totally zeroed in on the baby.
David: The DNA results are in.
Tad: It's like that bullet did something. It's like it blew away all the garbage that had been weighing me down, you know? When I woke up in that hospital, I -- all I could see was the good stuff in my life, you know? The fun stuff. Nowadays I get these incredible migraines. My life is trying to pull me down all over again. Does that make any sense at all?
Taylor: I spent my entire adult life in the military, and now it's time to move on, but it's all I know. And frankly, all of this talk about me finding a greater purpose -- it's kind of a buzzkill.
Tad: OK. How's about I suggest a new mission? How's about you and me, we try to blow away some of the garbage?
Taylor: It's -- that's a bold mission.
Tad: Bold? Did you really use the word bold?
Taylor: I accept.
Tad: Yeah? Ok.
[Tad and Taylor shake hands]
Amanda: Answer me. Do you love me?
Jake: Of course, I love you.
Amanda: Then swear to me on our love that you did not give Liza my baby.
Marissa: So? Is Liza's baby really yours?
Jesse: Do you really think I could kill that man?
Angie: No. No, but down deep, I have a feeling that there is something you are keeping from me.
Jesse: Well, your down deep is wrong. You need to believe that.
Angie: I do. I do, sweetheart. It's just that it takes me back to when you first came home, and after 20 years, there was so much that I didn't know about you, but we worked through it. We survived because we promised, no more secrets. I know that you would never break that promise.
Brot: You know what? I think I'm gonna leave you guys alone right now.
Frankie: Wait. Stay and hang out.
Brot: No, man. Three's a crowd. But seriously, congratulations.
Frankie: I'm gonna go check on him, ok? I'll be right back.
Randi: Ok.
Madison: Mind if I join you? I'm Madison, Henry North's widow.
Kendall: You're right, but Ryan and I are over.
Zach: Until the next time you run back to him.
Kendall: Zach, I hate this. I hate it. We're always accusing each other and blaming and attacking.
Zach: I don't want it, either.
Kendall: Well, what do you want, Zach? Obviously it's not me. That day at the boardwalk with Ian and Spike, I told you all I needed was our family. Yesterday, I told you I would have no hope if you were taken away from me. I was telling you that I still love you. But you didn't say it back, because you wanted to hurt me, and it worked. So now I hurt you back, and that's what we do. We do the same thing over and over and over again, and I don't understand. Why can't we just love each other? Why?
[Kendall grabs Zach's face and kisses him passionately]
