Marissa: Hi, my name's Marissa. I'll be your server today.
Jake: Marissa -- are you -- are you Krystal's daughter, Marissa?
Marissa: Oh, God, am I related to you or something?
Amanda: Or something.
Jake: Well, I'm Jake Martin. Tad Martin's brother.
Marissa: Oh, right, right. So you are --
Amanda: Amanda Dillon.
Marissa: And that's my half-sibling?
Jake: Listen, I don't mean to be rude, but, uh -- and I'll just apologize in advance because I don't know how tight you are with your father, but David's got no soul, and what he'd like to do is steal Amanda's baby. So I'll just say for the record, and just for your edification, that would happen over my dead body.
David: So, as much as I hate Adam -- I couldn't do it. But it wasn't you, Krystal. You didn't stop me. They did -- my children. I mean, it would have been so easy for me to just pull that trigger, and I admit, I wanted to.
Krystal: But someone beat you to it?
David: No, no. I had plenty of time. I just couldn't do it. But none of this matters, does it? Because you're leaving. Why?
Krystal: I can't believe you have to ask me that. I mean, I don't even know where to start. Because you lied to me, because you drugged me, because you drugged Adam to try to get your hands on our grandson, and because you tried to buy Amanda's baby.
David: All right, all right, now, that -- that was a terrible lapse in judgment.
Krystal: Ok, so now -- now you're just going to try to steal the kid instead, right?
David: Wait a minute. How can I be stealing a child that's my child?
Tad: Hey. Whoo! Bad time?
David: What the hell is he doing here?
Tad: Oh, I just -- I came to take Krystal home. Shotgun. Ha ha.
Colby: You are a liar. You came here to kill my dad and you shot Uncle Stuart instead.
Liza: Colby, please, would you stop saying that?
Colby: Just don't touch me, ok? Just stop.
Erica: Get away from her now.
Colby: Erica, leave us alone.
Erica: Liza was attacking you.
Liza: Attacking her? She's my daughter.
Erica: Yeah, that is all the more alarming.
Colby: Stop it. This is between me and my mom. Tell me you get that on some level.
Liza: Oh, she gets it. Erica's a mother, too.
Zach: There's no need to cry, honey, it wasn't a real wedding.
[Kendall remembers]
Kendall: There is so much that I feel like I want to say to you. I love you. I feel like I can't say it often enough or loud enough. You know me. You knew my heart when I was too scared to look inside, and so I pledge my heart to you. God, the words, they're all -- they're jumbled in my head, but my heart makes sense. Can you hear it? I wish that you could hear it -- because it says that I love you.
Zach: You ok?
Kendall: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. I was, uh -- I was just -- just thinking about -- about Ryan.
Zach: No need to apologize. You're thinking about Ryan -- makes sense.
Ryan: Everybody knows you were at Chandler's the night of the murder, Annie. What did Emma see? Who were you pointing the gun at?
Annie: You have to promise me something first. I want to talk to Emma. I just want to tell her that I love her and that I think about her every single day. Please, Ryan, one phone call with our daughter -- and then I'll tell you everything I know.
Kendall: Marrying you -- it hurts Ryan and me, and it must be hurting you, too.
Zach: Well, try to remember why we did what we did. Without my testimony, you actually have a shot at getting off.
Kendall: I know, I -- I know. I understand why we're doing this, but it just doesn't feel right for some reason.
Zach: No? Have a look. Our boy's still got a very long fight ahead of him. So it may not feel right to you, it may not feel right for us, but it's right for the boys.
Kendall: That's all that matters.
Zach: Yeah. Get out of here. Go see Ryan. That's where you should be right now.
Ryan: The truth, and I will arrange a phone call between you and Emma.
Annie: The truth is that I had no intention of killing Adam or Stuart.
Ryan: Then why were you carrying a gun, Annie?
Annie: For protection, Ryan, which clearly was a good idea considering our daughter was in a house with a murderer.
Ryan: Ok, so you decided to go to Chandler's that night.
Annie: To take Emma. I climbed up the trellis to the nursery. I was waiting until the coast was clear, but before I could take Emma, Adam came storming in. He was really, really out of it. He spotted me, and then he bolted. I didn't want him to call the police, ok? So I told Emma to stay put, and I went after Adam. The problem was I bumped into J.R. first, who was really, really drunk. I knew he wouldn't be of any concern to me. Adam -- Adam was my main threat. At least that's what I thought. When I found him, it was crazy, Ryan. He was -- he was shaking like a child. He asked me to help him. At first, I wasn't going to do it. I thought I would take Emma and I would just leave, but I -- I couldn't leave him there. He was seriously a mess, Ryan. It's like he was on drugs or something. He kept saying that somebody was trying to kill him.
Ryan: Did he say who?
Annie: No. So then I took Adam, and I took Emma up to the attic. I thought we would wait it out until things quieted down.
Ryan: And that's when you headed over to my building.
Annie: Yes, yes, and you know the rest, Ryan.
Ryan: When in there did Emma see you holding a gun?
Annie: Up in the attic, ok? We heard noises downstairs, and we heard a gunshot -- the shot that killed Stuart. I wasn't going to let anybody hurt our daughter.
Ryan: You realize that if Adam's story doesn't match yours that nobody is going to believe you over him?
Annie: Well, if he says anything different, then he's lying. But I don't think that he will.
Ryan: Why not?
Annie: Because I'm telling you the truth. I know it's been a long time, but I am telling the truth, Ryan. So, can I call my daughter now, please?
Ryan: I need to talk to Adam first.
Erica: Does Adam even know you're here?
Colby: Please, will you just go?
Erica: Colby, just don't forget who you're dealing with. Your mother ignored you for years. Don't let her just swoop in here and pull the rug over your eyes.
Liza: All right. Who the hell do you think --
Colby: Stop.
Liza: -- You are?
Colby: Ok, yes. My mom's done some really lame things, and she's lied to me. But look what it cost her -- me. And I can't believe -- I need to believe she wouldn't risk losing me again.
Liza: What, Erica, isn't this where you get the last word in?
Erica: Adam will have the last word. Colby is Adam's daughter, too, and he will never give her up without a fight.
Liza: Who ever thought I would need my little girl to defend me?
Colby: I'm not a little girl anymore, and that wasn't about you. I want to know what happened the night Uncle Stuart was shot.
Liza: Ok.
Colby: The truth this time, or I call the police right now.
Marissa: Do you guys know what you want?
Jake: Yeah. I'd like to apologize to you. I shouldn't have said what I said about your father. You don't say that to somebody's daughter. It's just that I happen be passionate on the subject, so, sorry.
Marissa: Yeah, I can tell. You also seem pretty confident. Look, I barely know the guy, so I'm not going to stand here and defend him or anything.
Jake: But?
Marissa: There are parts of David --
Jake: Uh-oh, she's going to fall into the trap. It's the trap.
Marissa: The trap?
Jake: Oh, yeah, the trap. The poor guy -- lonely guy trap. The misunderstood guy trap.
Marissa: I can take care of myself.
Jake: Oh, good, ok, then I won't talk about it anymore. I am sorry -- I apologize.
Amanda: Great, because I'm hungry.
Jake: Good, good, ok. How's the pasta thing special?
Marissa: Great.
Jake: That's good? Ok -- you good? We'll have two of those, and I'll have Chianti. Nothing for you -- no drinks.
Amanda: Oh, yeah, I'm good with water, thank you.
Jake: Thank you.
Amanda: You know, she's right.
Jake: About what?
Amanda: You. This whole confident thing that you have going on, I mean, it's -- it's almost like -- you're relaxed.
Jake: Well, why shouldn't I be?
Amanda: Is that a trick question?
Jake: Baby, come here. Our plan is going to work, and maybe even better than we thought.
Tad: Got anything to drink? Ha ha ha ha!
David: Congratulations, Tad. You're now the official village idiot.
Tad: Yeah, well, maybe, but at least I've got a smile on my face.
David: Meaning I have nothing? Is that it?
Tad: No, no, you have a little cut right there. Somebody beat the crap out of you again?
Krystal: All right, look, come on, let's go. Let's go home.
Tad: Oh, home sounds tame. What do you say we go dancing?
Krystal: Look, let's talk about it in the car, all right?
Tad: Did you ever take her dancing -- I mean, like even, you know, once?
David: Shut the hell up, and get out of my house -- both of you!
Tad: What do you say we give him what he wants, shall we, huh?
Krystal: What -- what? Tad, come on.
Tad: After you.
[Vase shatters]
Marissa: Hey, Krystal.
Krystal: Hi.
Marissa: Tad.
Tad: Hello.
Marissa: Table for two?
Tad: Yeah, just a minute. There's Jake. I'm going to go give him nuggies.
Krystal: Don't ask.
Marissa: Is David off-limits, too? Because I've been worried ever since I left you guys. He was pretty out of control.
Krystal: Everybody's fine, including David.
Marissa: He didn't seem fine to me.
Krystal: I know. Well, David is hurt. He's angry that I left -- but he'll be back on his feet soon. He won't be alone for long.
Marissa: Does he really want to take Amanda's baby from her?
Krystal: Oh, he doesn't just want to -- he will.
Liza: So, I remember Adam always kept a gun in the parlor, and I thought to myself, if I could just get it, maybe I could scare him into admitting the truth.
Colby: So you didn't break in looking for the letters?
Liza: No. I just wanted to hear him say it out loud, how all these years he's been poisoning you against me. So, I came into the parlor, and I found the gun, right there in the cabinet drawer, and that's when I found the letters. There it was, the reason you never responded. I knew.
Colby: Dad had been keeping them from me.
Liza: Yeah, Colby. If you thought I was angry before --
Colby: And then what?
Liza: And that's when I heard someone coming, so I dropped the letters, and I raced outside to the terrace.
Colby: Was it Dad?
Liza: Yes, it was, and he made a beeline straight to the letters, picked them up, and he pocketed them. Well, he just stood there. It looked like he knew that someone was watching him, so I left, and then it wasn't until later I heard a gunshot, I came running back to the parlor, and that's when I saw him -- Adam, or so I thought, lying there dead. So I went in, and I got my letters, and then I heard the police coming either through the front door or the terrace. I panicked. I got out of there as fast as I could. Honey, if I had known that was Stuart -- I mean, what was he doing with my letters? Colby, you want to call the police, I get it. But just think about one thing. Why would I want to kill your father when I already had the proof that I needed?
Colby: Proof of what?
Liza: How much I loved you and how I never gave up on you.
[Door closes]
Pete: Colby, you're never going to -- oh, I'm interrupting, and I'll just --
Liza: No, it's ok. Please, stay. I trust you're going to do the right thing.
Pete: Are you ready for this?
Colby: I doubt it.
Pete: The blood on the letter is definitely Stuart's.
Zach: You're worried about Ryan. Go see him.
Kendall: And leave Ian?
Zach: You're not leaving Ian. I'm here.
Kendall: I know, but you're gonna need a break at some point. You shouldn't be alone.
Angie: Hey, just here to see my patient.
Zach: Angie, I got a question for you. Are you going to be here all night?
Angie: Yeah, I am.
Zach: So if I need a break with Ian, you'd help me out, wouldn't you?
Angie: Yeah, it's pretty quiet around here. I don't see why not.
Zach: Boom, problem solved.
Kendall: We shouldn't be asking her to do that.
Angie: Are you kidding? You know all I want is to be with Frankie right now, but he's on another continent. I can't help my son, Kendall, so, uh, it would feel very good to help yours.
Kendall: Are you sure?
Angie: Absolutely.
Zach: You can go.
Kendall: Ok. All right, my sweet boy. I'll be back very soon. You sleep well. Thank you.
Angie: You're welcome. So, I'm sure you know that I've heard. This is how you're spending your wedding night?
Zach: It's the way it has to be.
Kendall: Oh, uh, Mom, I can't really talk right now. I'm on my way out, actually.
Erica: Oh, good. That's why I'm here. I'm gonna stay with Ian. I thought that maybe after the ceremony, you and Zach might like to go home, might like to rest.
Kendall: Have a honeymoon?
Erica: Maybe.
Kendall: Mom, I told you already, Zach and I got married out of convenience.
Erica: I know.
Kendall: Well, right now I need to focus on Ian and being with the boys and Ryan.
Erica: Ryan? Is that where you're headed off to?
Kendall: Yes. This has not been easy on him -- on any of us.
Erica: No, I know that. I know that. Why would you do anything the easy way?
Kendall: Mom, will you please just stop, please? Just focus on yourself.
Erica: Oh, believe me, I would very much like to do that. I would really love to be able to wash my hands of the whole thing.
Kendall: Well, why can't you?
Erica: Because I happen to know for a fact that Zach still loves you.
Tad: You know, it's really not so bad. How about I find a song that will rock your world?
Krystal: Yeah. Yeah, you do that.
Tad: Then I will do that.
Marissa: Tad's brother's really nice, huh?
Krystal: Hmm. Yeah, if he likes you. Oh, I'm sorry. Jake and Amanda are good people.
Marissa: I wish this whole baby thing wasn't such a mess.
Krystal: You and me both.
Marissa: Maybe there's something I can do. You know, if David's looking for someone to fill that void, why shouldn't it be me? Maybe then he'd stop obsessing over Amanda's baby and Little A.
Krystal: That is not a good idea.
Marissa: All I'd be doing is getting to know my father.
Krystal: It would turn out to be much more than that, trust me. And I don't want you to get sucked in like I did.
Marissa: But if I can help -- what?
Krystal: You just sounded like Babe.
Angie: Zach, you're such a good father. Such a way with kids -- a -- an instinct.
Zach: Instinct, huh? So where were those instincts when my son's heart stopped? He's fought from the moment he was born. Why would I think he'd stop fighting now?
Angie: No, I'm talking about what happened after. I mean, when you thought your son was gone, you went after -- you were willing to give up your life -- no hesitation, no questions asked.
Zach: That's my boy. That's what fathers do.
Angie: Well, I don't know how many fathers would marry their ex-wives, unless it wasn't a sacrifice.
Zach: No, there's nothing left there. I'm out of Kendall's heart, and she's out of mine.
Angie: Maybe that's just what you think.
Kendall: Zach still loves me?
Erica: That's what I said.
Kendall: He -- he told you this?
Erica: Yes.
Kendall: Well, did he decide he still loved me before or after he slept with Liza?
Erica: Kendall, he was reacting to losing you. Yes, he made a mistake, but, honey, you are making an even bigger one by not forgiving him.
Kendall: Mom, there's nothing to forgive. Zach didn't do anything wrong. He can have sex with whoever he wants to. What? He can.
Erica: So this news -- this means nothing to you?
Kendall: I didn't say that.
Erica: The fact that Zach is willing to go to prison to protect you -- to lay his life on the line for yours -- you don't care?
Kendall: No, of course, I care. I am so grateful for everything Zach did for me and for Ian.
Erica: It's not enough?
Kendall: I love Ryan. I do, and that's just the way it is, and there's nothing you can say that will change that.
Erica: You know something? You're absolutely right. There is nothing I can say.
Adam: What do you want, Lavery?
Ryan: I'm here about Annie. You were with her the night that Stuart was murdered, correct?
Adam: Uh, yes, yes. I've discussed this at great length with the police.
Ryan: Well, now I'm asking you to discuss it with me.
Adam: Yes, well, all right -- what I can remember, thanks to Hayward's fog-inducing drugs.
Ryan: Ok, well, do you remember seeing her that night?
Adam: Yes, yes.
Ryan: Are you aware that she had a gun?
Adam: Well, no. She didn't threaten me with one. As far as knowing whether she had a gun, I don't know. I told her that I needed her help, and she, thank God, gave it to me. She saved my life, Ryan, and Kendall took Stuart's away.
Ryan: There's no proof of that, Adam.
Adam: Well, there's a gun with her prints, and there's eyewitnesses, but, um -- oh, that's why you're here. You want to get Kendall off the hook, and who better to take the fall then your lunatic ex-wife?
Ryan: I just want the truth.
Adam: The truth? You've got it. Annie is innocent. I'll stake my brother's life on that.
Krystal: I did not mean to compare you to babe.
Marissa: We're twins, right? I guess it's kind of inevitable.
Krystal: Yeah. Well, she did have a thing for the underdog. Marissa, you are not David's savior.
Marissa: I never said I was trying to save him.
Krystal: Didn't you?
Tad: Yes!
[Pop song playing]
Tad [Latin accent]: I'm coming for you, baby.
[Krystal sighs]
Marissa: Excuse me.
Tad: I have moves you haven't even dreamed of.
Babe: Hi, Daddy.
David: Babe.
Babe: Why are you so sad? Is it because of me?
David: Yes, yes, because I love you so much, and you're gone. Everything just fell apart when I lost you, Babe.
Babe: That's no excuse. I've been watching you, Daddy, the things that you've done.
David: I know. Look, it was all for Little Adam, sweetheart, everything. Everything I did was for your son.
Babe: It's wrong. You can't treat people that way. Don't you know that, Daddy?
David: Well, I guess I need you to remind me.
Babe: You shouldn't need me to tell you to be a good man.
David: I do. But I do.
Babe: Then be a good man, Daddy. I know that it's in you.
David: How could you say that? I left town. I -- I was never there for you.
Babe: But I realize that you loved me.
David: Yes, yes. That's why I came back. At first, I just -- I just wanted to see you, to make sure that you were all right, but -- but that wasn't enough. I -- I needed to talk with you. I needed to -- to explain, but -- I was too late, and you were already --
Babe: But I'm here now.
David: Yeah, but not to stay. Oh, you're not staying, though.
Babe: No. No, I'm just -- I'm here to ask you to stop all of this. Leave J.R. alone. He is a wonderful father, and Amanda, she loves her baby.
David: Oh, sweetheart. That's our baby, ok? I love that child, too.
Babe: Yes, and she deserves the right to be a mother.
David: Yeah, but what -- what about what I deserve? I mean, what, is this it? Me, alone for the rest of my life?
Babe: No, you're not alone. You have --
Marissa: You have me.
David: I have you.
Kendall: Ryan --
Ryan: I didn't expect to see you here tonight.
Kendall: You thought I'd be with Zach.
Ryan: Maybe you should be.
Zach: What are you doing?
Liza: Hi. Um, I'm here to see Kendall. I wanted to apologize to her for, you know, ratting her out to Jesse.
Zach: Hmm. Well, Kendall's not here, so you can stop pretending to care.
Liza: You know, Zach, I do care. And it's not just that. You know, I really do feel terrible about us.
Zach: About us what, having sex?
Liza: Yeah. Come on. If I had known that you were Kendall's ex, please, it never would've happened.
Zach: Really?
Liza: Listen, I just came here to start a new life with Colby and my baby.
Zach: I still don't see what the problem is.
Liza: The problem is that everything is all screwed up. Colby, Kendall, Adam, Scott, and you. I mean, God, every time I see you I just want to rip your clothes off.
Zach: You don't want to do that. I'm a married man.
Liza: Um --
Kendall: I know it's -- it's weird, me marrying Zach.
Ryan: Little bit.
Kendall: But if it keeps me out of prison and it keeps me with my boys, keeps me with you, then I'm grateful to Zach. But that doesn't mean that I'm still in love with him. I want you, Ryan, and Zach knows that. He's the one who told me to come here, said -- said this is where I should be.
Ryan: It isn't, Kendall.
Kendall: What? Ryan, I just told you that --
Ryan: You should be with Ian. You should. As much as I would love you to be here, and I'd love you to be here a lot, your son needs you more than I do right now.
Kendall: If I could be in two places at once --
Ryan: You would be, I know that.
Kendall: I love you.
Ryan: That sounded like a question.
Kendall: No, it's -- it's not. I love you, and -- and I need you to say that you know that.
Ryan: I love you, too.
Krystal: I just, um, I just want to say, you know, um, this -- us --
Tad: Mm-hmm.
Krystal: David made me very angry, angry enough to leave him, but I -- I don't want you to think --
Tad: I don't.
Krystal: What?
Tad: Krystal, I may have a hole in my head, but I'm not stupid.
Krystal: Tad, I just don't think you understand.
Tad: I don't want to. I don't want to understand. I don't want to think things through, I don't want mull over anything. All I want to do is dance. Is that ok? Don't you? It's so easy. All you do is close your eyes and -- let the music carry you away. Come on. Dance with me.
[Slow song playing]
Marissa: You might want to pop some aspirin, too. I have a feeling a killer headache is coming on.
[Marissa lovingly places a throw over David's shoulders]
Marissa: What?
David: Why are you doing this?
Marissa: I guess I'm just trying to understand you. I figure you've got enough people judging you, right? I'm not one to go along with the group.
David: You want to understand me, huh? How, when I can barely understand myself? The truth is, Marissa, I'd be surprised if there was one person on this entire planet that truly gets me.
Marissa: How do you know that person isn't me?
Pete: I don't get it, Colby. We have forensic evidence. That plus motive equals your mom killed Stuart.
Colby: Shh! Could you please not talk in equations right now?
Pete: I'm sorry, Colby, but the add-ins remain the same, right? If this were a cop show, the cops would be banging down the door to arrest that -- you know your mom's really hot, right?
Colby: Oh, my God, Pete.
Pete: Not appropriate? I'll take that as a no. Listen, we have an obligation to tell the police.
Colby: No, we have an obligation to tell the truth, and my mom did not kill Uncle Stuart.
Pete: But she's lied before.
Colby: Things are different now. And no way am I turning her in.
Zach: We got married so I wouldn't be able to testify against her.
Liza: Well, I get it. You did it for your kids.
Zach: Those are my boys.
Liza: Yeah. No, I -- I just didn't think that guys like you still existed. She's very lucky.
Zach: See you soon.
Liza: Hey, Kendall, there you are. I was looking for you.
Kendall: Why?
Liza: Because I wanted to apologize to you for giving you up to the police. Listen, I will do whatever I can if I'm called to testify, believe me.
Kendall: If? Recanted or not, you still said you saw me with a gun.
Liza: Yeah, but I've changed my story.
Kendall: Well, that must've been some one-night stand. You're a lawyer. If you get caught lying under oath, your career is over. I mean, to take that big of a risk is insane.
Liza: Kendall, I didn't do this for Zach.
Kendall: Well, you're protecting someone, and it sure as hell isn't me.
Liza: I'm protecting my baby.
Kendall: Well, then that makes two things we share, doesn't it? Protecting our children and my husband.
Tad: My God, I'm a good tipper. Too bad I can't remember how to spell my name. It doesn't matter anyway. Can't find the waitress. You ready?
Krystal: Yeah, I'm ready.
Tad: It's not so bad, is it -- being out without that big black cloud hanging over your head?
Krystal: No, it's not so bad.
Tad: That's my girl. Up.
Krystal: Let's go. Ooh, nice dress.
Tad: Yeah, no kidding.
Krystal: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, come on.
Tad: Think she works out?
Marissa: I understand you better than you think. You're terrified of being alone. Strange, considering how much time you spend pushing everyone away. And you definitely don't think that you deserve to be happy or have any real, honest relationships, which is why instead of just loving and asking for love in return, you manipulate the people that you care about.
Marissa and Babe: I know why you won't let us in.
Marissa: You're scared of what we might see.
David: How do you know all this?
Marissa: I'm not sure. I just do.
Erica: Well, I see you're not in handcuffs, so I'm going to guess that Colby finally actually bought that story of yours. In a twisted kind of way, it's actually kind of clever, to get your daughter to cover for a murder like that.
Liza: Erica-- listen, I love my daughter, and for the first time in a long time, I think she actually believes me. I missed out on three years of her life -- no more. No, I am getting her back.
Erica: Well, excuse me for having the last word, again, but, uh, good luck with that.
Emma: Guess what -- I won the spelling bee at school.
Annie: Oh, sweetheart. Oh, that's amazing. I'm so proud of you. And you're being a good girl for Daddy, right?
Emma: Yes.
Annie: Emma, sweetheart, I need you to listen to me for a second, ok? I need you to know that just because Mommy's not there right now, you are in my heart every single second, ok? And I want you to know that when I'm missing you, do you know what I think about? I think about your great big hugs.
Emma: I'm saving a big hug for you, Mommy.
Annie: I can't wait.
Zach: Hey.
Kendall: Hey.
Zach: I didn't think you'd be back tonight.
Kendall: I couldn't stay away.
Zach: Well, um, would you like this shift?
Kendall: Yes, I would love it. Hey, sweetie.
