Zach: Ian? Ian!
Kendall: What's going on?
Zach: He doesn't look right.
Kendall: He looks fine. Zach!
Zach: I need some help in here! Something's wrong with my son!
J.R.: I was hoping that Zach and Kendall Slater could be here to celebrate with us, but, fortunately, they're busy spending time with their recovering baby boy. So here's to their family and all the other families that are going to have more time together thanks to this amazing medical advancement.
[Applause]
Opal: Well, there she is, just like my vision, only there her hands were bloody.
Aidan: There who is?
Opal: Annie! Standing there. She -- she -- she was just there. Didn't you see her?
Aidan: Opal, there's no one there.
J.R.: I would also like to thank Dr. Chappell, the valve's inventor. Let it be known that without him, none of this would have been possible. Cheers.
[Applause]
Scott: I need to report a suicide.
Adam: What are you doing?
Erica: You don't need that.
Adam: The hell I don't.
Erica: Adam, look at you. You're having a hard enough time keeping a clear head as it is. Oh, I knew this party would be too much.
David: Congratulations. Looks like you've got yourself a winner, and I know that almost killed Ian Slater. If I hadn't been there to fix that valve --
J.R.: He's fine.
David: For now. You better pray that that amazing medical advancement of yours holds.
Jake: What is it? What's going on? Talk to me.
Kendall: Nothing, I mean the monitor's are quiet. Ian seems ok.
Zach: Just check him out, please.
[Jake mumbles]
Zach: Well, something is wrong. Just look at him again. There's -- I can feel it, something's going on here. Please.
Opal: It was so real, so alive. The last vision I had, her hands were all full of blood. It just scared the bejeebies out of me, but -- but this time, she just looked downright normal, nothing creepy about it.
Aidan: Well, that's a good thing, isn't it?
Opal: I guess. You're positive you didn't see anything?
Aidan: Nothing but an empty terrace.
Opal: Boy, I got to figure out what in the heck is wrong with me, what all this means. I just -- oh.
Aidan: Why don't you go home and get some rest?
Opal: You expect me to sleep when every time I close my eyes I see -- and by the way, just what in the devil are you doing around here, anyway? You and Ryan ain't exactly best buds these days.
Aidan: I, uh -- I just -- I came to pick up some stuff for Annie, some mementos of Emma.
Opal: Annie -- I thought she vamoosed off to someplace where they couldn't drag her back in cuffs.
Aidan: And she knows that she can't come back here anytime soon, but she misses her little girl. So I came to pick up some pictures and some drawings of Emma, anything that would make things easier.
Opal: Does Ryan know what you're up to?
Aidan: Uh, no, he doesn't, and I don't want to ask you to lie, but --
Opal: But you're going to.
Aidan: I just got released on bail. If Ryan finds out I'm here, the first call he's going to make is to Jesse Hubbard. Please, Opal, I'm just helping out a friend, a mother that -- that can't see her little girl.
Opal: All right, I won't say anything, for now, but the first whiff of trouble --
Aidan: Thank you.
[Annie squeals]
Annie: Thank God, I missed you so much.
Aidan: What the hell is wrong with you?
Ryan: Hey, Erica, I'd like to go to the hospital and check in on Ian and Kendall. Do you think it'd be ok if I left Emma here with Little A?
Erica: Of course, of course, but please give Ian a kiss for me.
Ryan: I will.
Erica: Ok.
J.R.: Will you get out of my face, Hayward?
David: Get used to it, Junior. Now that I have visitation of Little Adam, you're going to be seeing my face a lot more often around here, which might not be such a bad thing. The old man's not looking too hot.
Erica: You can answer me anytime, Adam.
Adam: I can't drink and talk at the same time. Nothing happened.
Erica: Adam, I was looking at you, and you just all of a sudden just completely zoned out.
Adam: Well, excuse me for being distracted. Sue me.
Erica: It was a lot more than that, and you know it. Did you have another seizure?
Gayle: I think it's time you took a break.
Adam: For once, I couldn't agree more.
Gayle: I'll get you some food.
J.R.: How are you feeling?
Adam: Oh, why is everyone asking me that question? I feel -- I feel fine, fine.
J.R.: You didn't seem fine a minute ago when you were giving that toast. What was that?
Adam: Well, if anyone needs to give an explanation, it would be you, or possibly I could handle an apology.
J.R.: Well, this should be good. For what?
Adam: For fighting me at every turn, and pushing that valve at the moment we did was the right thing to do. That young boy is alive because of it.
J.R.: What about my boy, now that David's got an all-access pass in this house? You bartered my son. I will never forgive you for that.
Adam: Do I look like I gave in to him?
Marissa: Crab cake?
David: Thank you.
Marissa: Pretty low, using your grandson to cut a deal, holding out on your surgical skills when a child is sick.
David: I take it J.R.'s been spreading his poison, huh? These are good, by the way.
Marissa: So it's not true?
David: Marissa, I don't owe you an explanation, and why are you hanging out with this tool anyway? Hoping to cash in on the Chandler trust fund?
Krystal: Is everything ok?
Marissa: Are you serious right now? I am not the one looking to score, and even if I was, I would not abuse my position as a doctor to do it.
Krystal: Easy.
David: You only know half the story, which is to say you don't know what you're talking about, and you certainly don't know what it's like to be denied your own family. So until you know what that feels like, keep your judgments to yourself.
Marissa: He doesn't deserve your tears.
Krystal: You're wrong, Marissa.
Marissa: You know, I used to like him a lot. I even thought we had some sort of a connection, but now? No, he's not who I thought he was.
Adam: Emma, would you run into the playroom and get us some more toys? That's a girl. Are you having fun?
Little Adam: Yes, I can play with both grandpas today.
Adam: Oh, yeah. You love your other grandpa, too, don't you? Well, I'm glad to hear that, but you have to be a little bit careful with Grandpa David. You see, he wants to take you away from us. He wants to have you all to himself. Now, you'd miss your dad and me if that happened wouldn't you? Yeah, I know you would.
J.R.: Scott, where are you?
Scott: You have to get to the Valley Inn now. This whole thing is completely out of control.
Kendall: How is he?
Jake: He's the same as he was a few minutes ago.
Zach: Check him again.
Kendall: Ok, Zach, you're beyond exhausted. You need sleep.
Zach: I don't need sleep. I need him to check him again.
Jake: Maybe you should listen to your wife. Excuse me, ex-wife.
Zach: Page Hayward.
Jake: He'll tell you the same exact thing about Ian.
Zach: Just do it.
Jake: I see that we still have a communication problem.
Zach: I'm going to ask you one more time. Page Hayward now.
David: This better be good.
Jake: Did you get Ian Slater's vitals?
David: You sent them to my PDA, right?
Jake: Yes, and?
David: They look great.
Jake: Well, I have said that to Kendall and Zach, but Zach is flipping out.
David: All right, then, give him a sedative.
Jake: Why don't you try giving Zach Slater a sedative? He wants you to come by and see Ian as soon as you can.
David: What's the matter? He doesn't have any confidence in the great Dr. Martin?
Jake: Can you do that, or not?
David: All right, just tell him to relax. I'll be there soon to check on Ian.
Jake: Fantastic. What a charmer.
Jake: All right, he said he'll come by as soon as he can.
Zach: That's not good enough. You stay with Ian.
Kendall: Where are you going?
Zach: Don't take your eyes off my son.
Erica: Well, where did you disappear to?
Adam: I wanted to say good night to my grandson.
Gayle: May I speak with you alone, Dr. Hayward? It concerns a patient.
Krystal: Yeah, I just wanted to get a refill anyway.
David: What do you have?
Gayle: It's Mr. Chandler. I heard him talking to your grandson upstairs. He's trying to turn your little boy against you.
David: Thank you, Gayle. I'll take care of this.
Krystal: You know what? I realize I'd rather just call it a night. Are you ready?
David: You know, I'm going to check on Little A first.
Krystal: Another time?
David: Why? I'm right here.
Krystal: I -- I just don't know if you should push it.
David: Push it? I'm the boy's grandfather.
Krystal: Who, until today, didn't even get to see the little peanut. So I'm just saying, why don't we just take it slow?
David: You know something, Krystal? You need to figure out whose side you're on.
Krystal: I'm on your side.
David: Really? Well, then, please act like it.
Opal: Gal pal!
Erica: No, no, no, not right now.
Opal: Have you seen Ryan?
Erica: Yeah, he went to the hospital to see Kendall.
[Erica takes off]
Opal: Was it something I said?
Angie: Oh, hi, Ryan.
Ryan: Hey, hey.
Angie: How are you?
Ryan: Pretty good, pretty much just here to check in on Ian and Kendall.
Angie: Well, from what I hear, they're doing pretty good. You know that Ian, he's a little miracle.
Ryan: Yeah, you look like you could use one of those right around now. Hey, you were there for me not so long ago. Let me return the favor.
Angie: It's, uh -- Frankie. He was injured in Iraq.
Ryan: Oh, my God. But -- but he's ok.
Angie: He -- he's alive. They've flown him to a hospital in Germany, but nobody will tell us much.
Ryan: Well, will they tell you where he's hurt?
Angie: His hands. They were caught under some kind of machinery. His hands, Ryan.
Ryan: Oh, my God. I am -- I'm so sorry. Is he -- is he going to be coming home soon?
Angie: I would think yes, but I don't know when or who he'll be when he comes back.
Ryan: And to have to be here and be dealing with everybody else's problems when you have so much going on yourself.
Angie: Well, that's my job, right?
Ryan: And for the record? You are very good at it.
[Pager beeps]
Angie: And my job beckons. Thank you.
Ryan: Ok, you take care, ok?
Angie: Yeah.
Ryan: Ok.
[Phone rings]
Ryan: Opal?
Opal: Ryan, thank God.
Ryan: What -- what's wrong?
Opal: I was over at your apartment.
Ryan: You were at my apartment.
Opal: To tell you not to go to the party here at Chandler's.
Ryan: Ok. Why?
Opal: Oh, that doesn't really matter for us right now. The important thing is, Ryan, I -- I saw Annie again.
Ryan: Opal, it was just a vision.
Opal: Maybe the first time, yes, but this time I'm really not so sure.
Ryan: What are you talking about? You mean you actually saw Annie, like real Annie is at my apartment?
Opal: Just do me a favor, would you, and go check.
Aidan: When I was on the phone to you, you said you were in The Maldives. Where were you, Annie? Ryan's bedroom.
Annie: Ok, I'm sorry I lied. I was afraid that if I told you I was here, I would get you in some sort of trouble. Really, I thought I would slip in to see Emma and then get the hell out.
Aidan: How did you get back in the country?
Annie: Oh, well, I must have learned a few things from my hot Special-Ops boyfriend.
Aidan: Annie, this is no joke. You could be extradited from The Maldives. If they find you, they're going to throw you in prison.
Annie: Ok, ok, I just need a little bit of time to see Emma.
Aidan: You need to leave the States now.
Annie: No, not until I see my daughter.
Aidan: I'm getting you out of here.
Annie: Wait -- wait. Hold on, hold on, Aidan. Aidan, don't! Aidan!
Annie: I was just using it for protection.
Aidan: If the cops pick you up, Annie, and find a gun --
Annie: It's ok. Don't worry about that, because I'm not going to get caught.
Aidan: And you stay here any longer, and you will. Is it really worth it, coming all this way for a glimpse of Emma when you can get thrown in prison for the rest of your life?
Annie: Aidan, you don't understand.
Aidan: I do understand. You miss Emma, and Emma misses you, all right? But you can't let that cloud your judgment.
Annie: But Emma --
Aidan: Doesn't want to visit you behind bars. Trust me on this.
Annie: Fine, fine, ok? But I need to get my passport.
Aidan: Where is it?
Annie: It's downstairs.
Aidan: Let's go. Ok.
[Elevator sounds]
Annie: Oh, my God.
Krystal: I wish you hadn't jumped on David.
Marissa: And I wish that he hadn't used an innocent kid.
Krystal: You don't understand, Marissa. David has lost so much already, a little girl a long time ago and then Babe and then, recently, I miscarried our child.
Marissa: I'm sorry, but that doesn't excuse what he did.
Krystal: Little Adam is all he has left.
Marissa: I'm -- I'm confused. Weren't you the one who blew his chance of getting custody?
Krystal: It's complicated.
Marissa: Seems pretty simple to me. Now, either you want David in your grandson's life, or you don't. Why would you tell a judge that he wasn't --
Krystal: Can you -- this is none of your damn business.
David: Hey, guys. Mind if I hang out here for a while? Hey, what have you got here? A bus, wow, that is cool. I'll tell you what. Someday when you get a little older, well, a lot older, Grandpa David is going to teach you how to use a stick shift. Sound like fun? Well, that's something we can't do for a long time. So why don't we think of something we can do now, something fun? Like, um -- I don't know, go to the zoo. I can pick you up after school, and we can go see the animals.
Little Adam: I don't want to.
David: No animals, huh? Well, then how about something like a movie? That would be fun, go see a cartoon, right? I can get -- we can get a bucket of popcorn and drink a lot of soda.
Little Adam: I don't want to.
David: No, huh? Well, why don't you tell me something you'd like to do, somewhere you'd like to go?
Little Adam: Nowhere.
David: Little Adam, come on. What's going on?
Jesse: So what brought the two of you to Chappell's room?
Scott: My family's company bought the rights to the doctor's heart valve --
J.R.: I can answer any questions regarding Chandler Enterprises.
Jesse: Be my guest.
J.R.: Well, when Dr. Chappell sold us his heart valve, I guess he didn't think it was going to be as successful as it was.
Jesse: Wouldn't success be a good thing?
J.R.: If he received a cut of the profits, but he signed away his rights.
Jesse: So this guy lost out on a huge windfall.
J.R.: I knew he was making a mistake, just didn't think he would kill himself.
Jesse: Anything to add to that?
Scott: No. No, that's pretty much it.
Jesse: Hmm, I'll go to the station, file a report.
J.R.: Jesse, if there is any way that you could keep this out of the press --
Jesse: My job is to protect that man's privacy, J.R., not your company.
[Door closes]
Scott: I can't believe this is happening.
J.R.: Just calm down.
Scott: Calm down? Chappell just took his own life.
J.R.: The guy had issues.
Scott: About his heart valve killing people. He tried to warn us. He told us --
J.R.: After it was too late, Scott. Look, we tried to stop that surgery.
Scott: We never should have let it start.
David: Did you see that? My own grandson is afraid of me, those Chandlers spewing garbage.
Gayle: I'm sure Little Adam will come around.
David: What if he doesn't? I could kill that old bastard.
Erica: Oh, Gayle. I'm so glad that I ran into you.
Gayle: You are?
Erica: Yes, I was hoping that we could chat.
Adam: Well, did you have a nice visit with my grandson?
David: What do you think?
Adam: Oh, don't tell me he spit in your face again?
David: You smug son of a --
Zach: Get your ass to the hospital and save my son.
Kendall: You really don't have to do this. Zach was just overreacting.
Jake: Maybe not.
Kendall: What? What's happening?
Jake: It's his heart.
Marissa: All right, thank you for coming. Have a great night. Bye bye. Bye. I'm sorry.
Krystal: It's ok.
Marissa: No, it's really not. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time just minding my own business. It's like ever since I got here, I just --
[Krystal sighs]
Krystal: It's this town. There's something in the water.
Marissa: I was completely out of line, again. All you've done is help me out, and this is how I repay you? I can hear my mom right now. "I raised you better than that, Marissa."
Krystal: No. You were standing up for what you believe. It reminds me a lot of my Babe.
Marissa: She looks happy.
Krystal: She was. It took her a long time to get there, but she -- she finally figured it all out.
Marissa: "It"?
Krystal: Life, love, how to be something to everyone without ever losing yourself.
Marissa: You miss her?
Krystal: So bad, it's hard to breathe sometimes.
Marissa: Yeah, I know. The trick is to look around at what you do have -- a beautiful baby daughter, a husband who obviously adores you, and for the piece de resistance, you've got me.
Krystal: I don't want to be one more thing for you to worry about.
Marissa: Are you kidding? You're paying my tuition. The least I could do is listen and maybe even understand.
Krystal: You don't have to.
Marissa: I want to, ok? We're both grieving, Krystal. Why not get through this together?
Krystal: Excuse me.
Scott: You have no idea, J.R. To walk in here and see him hanging like --
J.R.: I'm not saying that it wasn't a horrible thing.
Scott: Then -- then -- then what are you saying? Yeah, not much, I guess, considering you just blatantly lied to the chief of police.
J.R.: Look, I can't bring Chappell back, but I can protect Chandler Enterprises.
Scott: That's all you care about, isn't it? Forget that a man died, as long as your precious company is safe.
J.R.: No. You've got me all wrong.
Scott: What are we going to do? That valve is a ticking time bomb.
J.R.: Hayward fixed it.
Scott: As well as he could under the circumstances, but we don't know if the thing will hold.
J.R.: We just have to believe it will. We have to stay positive, right? Look, so far, the valve is doing great, which means Ian Slater is, too.
David: Stay here.
Zach: It's my boy in there.
David: All right. Look, you want me to look after your son, right? I cannot do that with you hovering.
Adam: You know -- you know it's amazing what medicine can do these days.
Zach: What's going on here?
Adam: Well, perhaps you could better articulate --
Zach: You know, your nephew, Scott, throughout the whole operation is just looking like he's expecting the worst.
Adam: Yeah, well, it's a very delicate procedure.
Zach: And then you've got Hayward -- comes to me, and he says, "We're not out of the woods yet," but he's got that tone, you know? And then, here you are. Why are you here? What's going on?
Adam: Well, my company owns the heart valve.
Zach: I know. And if anything happens to my son because of it, if he suffers for one second, I will kill you.
[Phone rings]
Adam: J.R., are you there?
J.R.: We're at Dr. Chappell's hotel room. Dad, we've got a problem.
Adam: Yeah, damn right, we do. There's an issue with Ian Slater. I'm at the hospital.
J.R.: Is he all right?
Adam: Well, we don't know yet. Hayward's in there checking him out.
David: It appears Ian's developed a mild arrhythmia.
Kendall: Ok. Well, mild doesn't sound so bad.
David: He's showing signs of edema in the hands and the legs.
Kendall: What does that mean?
[Long beep]
David: Damn it! Increase the medication.
[Ryan sighs]
[Phone rings]
Ryan: Kendall. What happened? Ok, don't move. I'm on my way.
[Door closes]
Aidan: We don't have a lot of time. We need to get your passport. We need to leave.
Annie: What about Emma?
Aidan: No. Look, we talked about this. Ok, we have to get you on a flight out of the country.
Annie: No, Aidan. You talked about this. It's my turn to start talking. I need to see my daughter. I came all this way for her.
Aidan: Annie, I understand how much you want to see Emma.
Annie: No, you don't understand. You keep saying that you do. I don't think you understand.
Aidan: You need to let this go, ok? You can't go and see Emma because it's way too dangerous. Listen to me. Are you with me on this, or not?
Annie: I'm sorry. I have to go.
Aidan: Where are you going? Come here.
Annie: I have to go.
Aidan: Annie!
Annie: Get -- go -- get --
Aidan: Don't be ridiculous.
Annie: Aidan, stop it!
Aidan: Annie --
Annie: Oh! Aidan! Aidan!
Gayle: What is it you wanted to talk about?
Erica: Cheekbones.
Gayle: What?
Erica: Your entire bone structure, actually. It's really quite exquisite.
Gayle: Me?
Erica: Yes. Have you ever modeled, Gayle?
Gayle: No. No, never.
Erica: Well, I guess that's our gain, isn't it? Because, well, trustworthy, competent nurses are so hard to find these days, we really have to hold on with the good ones.
Gayle: Thank you, Ms. Kane.
Erica: Oh, you're so welcome, but please, call me Erica. So do you like being a nurse?
Gayle: Very much.
Erica: I'm sure you meet some very interesting people.
Gayle: Interesting is a good word for it.
Erica: I can imagine all those doctors' egos butting heads. How do you manage that?
Gayle: I try to stay out of it, discretely learn what I can from the gifted ones.
Erica: While steering clear of the rest?
Gayle: Exactly. If I can.
Erica: And Dr. Hayward, I'm sure he falls into the former category.
Gayle: Oh, God, yes. He is the best I've ever come across.
Erica: That's such high praise.
Gayle: Doctor Hayward is -- he's brilliant.
Erica: And not so hard to look at either, is he?
Gayle: No. Definitely not.
Zach: What is that? What are the alarms going off? What is that?
Kendall: It's his heart.
David: I asked you to wait outside.
Zach: He's my son. What's going on?
David: But you're not helping.
Jake: It's a lot easier for us if you wait outside, you guys, ok?
Kendall: Jake, he's our little boy.
Jake: I understand that. I understand, but it's better for us, and it's better for Ian. Look, wait outside, and I'll come and find you as soon as I know what's going on. I promise. I promise.
Jake: So what do you think? Infection?
David: I'm afraid it could be something else.
Jake: Like what?
David: There was a problem in the OR.
Jake: What kind of problem?
David: Backflow from the valve. I patched it up, but there's a chance it didn't hold.
Jake: So blood is backing into his heart.
Zach: I knew it. It was all over their faces.
Kendall: Who?
Zach: Adam, Scott, Hayward. They're hiding something, and our boy's going to pay for it.
Kendall: Wait, Zach, what are you talking about?
Zach: The press conference, and now Adam, he's -- there's something we don't know.
Kendall: All right. I know you said that you had suspicions about David, but I thought it was just a gut feeling.
Zach: Well, it looks like my gut was right.
Kendall: What?
Ryan: How's Ian?
Kendall: We -- we don't know. They're working on him right now.
Ryan: Is it the valve?
Zach: She just said we don't know!
Ryan: Are you ok?
Kendall: No. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do.
[Aidan groans]
Annie: Oh, my God, Aidan.
[Aidan groans]
Aidan: Annie?
Annie: It's ok. I'm here, I'm here, I'm here.
Aidan: What happened?
Annie: You slipped on the steps, and you knocked yourself out.
[Aidan groans]
Annie: Try not to move, try not to move.
Aidan: My arm.
Annie: What is it? Is it broken?
Aidan: I think my shoulder's dislocated.
Annie: Ok, ok. Just try not to move, ok? Try not to move.
Aidan: I have to get you out of here, Annie.
Annie: You know what? Hold on, I can snap it back in.
Aidan: No, no. I don't think that's a good idea.
Annie: Hey -- hey, I trusted you, didn't I?
Aidan: Go on, then.
Annie: Ok. Ok.
[Aidan groans]
Annie: Ok, ready?
[Adam groans]
Annie: I'm sorry, Aidan, but I'm calling the shots now.
Krystal: Remember what we always used to say? We deserve the best, and together we can always get it. Well, the flipside of that is without you here, everything has gone wrong. I miss you. I miss your smile, your hugs, and mostly, I miss your advice. I could use that right about now. Oh, Babe, I messed up, and I can't -- I can't make it right. How -- how can I do something like that?
Marissa: Krystal, what did you do?
[Aidan groans]
Aidan: What are you up to, Annie?
Annie: I'm sorry, and I love you, but you gave me no choice. I'll be taking this.
Aidan: Annie, think about what you're doing.
Annie: I have. Bottom line, I have to see my daughter, Aidan, and you wanted to stop me from doing that. I can't let you do that.
Aidan: And if you get caught?
Annie: I won't. I'll be back, ok?
Aidan: You can't just leave me down here.
Annie: Emma's the one I can't leave.
Gayle: You are a very lucky little boy. You know that? You have so many people in your life that love you. Your daddy --
Little Adam: Grandpa?
Gayle: And your Grandpa David. Did you know that I work with him? Well, I do, and he talks about you all the time. He thinks you are just the most special little guy in the whole world.
Little Adam: Really?
Gayle: Your Grandpa David is a wonderful man, Little Adam, and he would never, ever hurt you. Do you understand? That's good, because he could really use us right now to stand by him, give him all the support he needs.
J.R.: Is it the valve?
Adam: We're still waiting for word.
Jesse: I need to ask you a few questions.
Adam: Jesse, can't you see we're in the middle of something here?
Jesse: What a coincidence. I'm in the middle of little something, too, a pesky little thing called a suicide investigation.
Adam: What the devil are you talking about?
Jesse: You didn't tell him? I just had your friend Dr. Chappell delivered to the morgue.
Adam: He killed himself?
David: You were right. Something's wrong.
Zach: What? The valve?
David: Yes.
Zach: What's wrong with it?
David: Ask him.
