[Amanda groans as she dreams that she's giving birth]

Doctor: Almost there. One more push.

Amanda: [Gasping]

[Baby crying]

Doctor: Well, Amanda, you're going to be very proud, because it's a --

Amanda: No, no, don't tell me. I don't want to know. I don't want to know anything.

David: Daddy's here.

Amanda: No, no.

David: [Laughing] Oh, look at this beautiful baby. You did a great job, Amanda. Say "bye bye."

Amanda: No, no! No.

Jake: It's ok. It's ok.

Krystal: It's my fault. I did this. This is all my fault.

[Krystal cries on Tad's shoulder]

Krystal: What I did, what I did in that court today -- I betrayed my husband in the worst possible way.

Tad: What you did is you told the truth. And Little Adam is back where he belongs because of it.

Krystal: What does it matter? David is going to be crushed either way.

Tad: What do you mean "either way?"

Krystal: I'm going to go lie down.

Tad: Krystal, what do you mean "either way?" Why did you do it?  Why did you turn on David?

David: How did you get Krystal to testify against me? I'm losing patience, Adam.

Adam: Go to hell.

David: Talk, damn it, or I swear to God I will kill you.

[Just as David is about to inject Adam, someone knocks him out with a metal tray to the head]

Kendall: I want a life with you. I do. You love me. Isn't that enough?

[Ryan kisses Kendall]

Ryan: I do love you. I want you. I need you.

Kendall: Yes.

Zach: Where is he?

Nurse: I'm sorry, I don't know.

Zach: Well, then find me someone who does know. Can you do that? Thank you.

Angie: What's going on?

Zach: I had to bring Ian in, and some doctor's with him I've never seen before. We can't find Hayward.

Angie: Well, whoever's covering is perfectly qualified.

Zach: Well, I don't want some idiot to look after my son. Just page Hayward, can you do that, please?

Angie: He's not on call. He spent the morning in court.

Zach: Let me tell you something. If anything happens to my boy, I will take down this hospital and everyone in it. Now find Hayward now.

Angie: Apparently, David is in the hospital, but he's not responding to the call.

Zach: Where is he?

Angie: I don't know.

Zach: You don't know? I'll go find him myself.

Angie: Listen, listen, listen. I had a consultation with Dr. Shephard. He's the attending who is examining Ian. Now he has spent the last 10 years as chief of cardiology in the top children's hospital in the country. Now David hand-picked him specifically for patients like Ian.

Zach: How is my son?

Angie: Dr. Shephard is still waiting for test results, but he is confident that they're going to come back negative.

Zach: I'm sorry, Angie. It's been a long day, and I didn't mean to fly off the handle.

Angie: No, look, you want to make sure that your child has the best care possible. There's no apologies necessary. You don't look so good.

Zach: I'm fine.

Angie: All right, suit yourself.

Zach: Kendall and I are not together anymore.

Kendall: Umm, mm-mm. No, no, no, no. Ryan, we can't do this. We can't do this here, ok? Emma, and then Spike, and honestly, I really -- I really have to get home to Ian. Please don't be mad at me.

Ryan: I'm not mad. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I got upset. Your son is sick. Of course, you've got to go be with him, of course.

Kendall: Yeah, yeah, I do, but I want to be with you, too.

Ryan: We will be.

Kendall: I do.

Ryan: We will be together, ok? We will figure something out. We will. I'm so sorry. We will, even if our time is limited together. Even if we can't live together. We need to be together, ok? I promise we will make this work.

Kendall: Yeah. We will make this work.

Ryan: Yes, we will.

Kendall: We will.

Tad: Krystal, if you talk to me, maybe I can help you.

Krystal: You can't. No one -- no one can. I didn't even have a choice. You know, that bastard made me do it.

Tad: Who? Not David?

Krystal: Just -- just leave it, ok? Leave it alone. Leave me alone. You know, you said David was going to ruin my life. I ruined his. I stabbed him in the back, and I broke his heart at the very same time. I'll never forgive myself.

David: What happened?

Scott: You don't remember? No worries, I'll fill in the cops when they get here. You ok, Uncle Adam?

Adam: Yeah, thanks to you. I had no idea you were back in town.

Jesse: You all right?

Officer: Yeah, something went down between these two.

Adam: Yeah, Hayward tried to kill me.

David: No, no, no, wait a minute. Wait a minute. I'm the one who was assaulted here. Scott bashed me over the head for no reason.

Scott: You were right up in his face.

Jesse: I'll take it from here.

Gayle: I'll get you some ice.

David: Thank you.

Jesse: Scott Chandler, how the hell are you?

Scott: Pretty good, Jesse. Good to see you breathing.

Jesse: Good to be breathing.

David: Oh, this is going to be fair.

Adam: What are you waiting for? This man -- arrest him for attempted murder.

Jesse: What did you do now?

David: Unbelievable. I came in to check on Adam. As soon as I started examining him, he went nuts -- thought I was attacking him. Next thing I know, this maniac is hitting me over the head.

Adam: Liar.

Scott: David threatened my uncle. I heard him say "I'll kill you."

Adam: He tried to inject me with a hypodermic needle. Poison me.

David: A hypodermic needle, really?

Adam: Yeah.

David: Well, the man is obviously delusional.

Jesse: Do you see a needle?

Scott: No, but I definitely heard the threat.

David: All right, fine, go ahead. Search me. Go ahead. Knock yourself out.

Jesse: He's clean.

Amanda: When David took the baby, I tried to stop him, but I couldn't.

Jake: He's not going to take the baby. Ok? He's not taking anything. Listen, by the time the baby is born, we're going to be so far away from here that he will never find you or me or the baby or the new parents.

Amanda: Minor glitch. We have no new parents. Our adoption lawyer just dumped us.

Jake: Well, I have us a new lawyer. And she's going to be great. And she understands. She knows that we have to be discreet. This is good. This is really good. It's good news.

Amanda: So, what about the rest of the plan? I come home. I grieve the loss of my child and -- and then what? I have nothing.

Jake: That's not true. Come here, come here. Sit. Listen to me. You have so much going for you. Do you hear me? No, you do. And ever since this happened, ever since the child came into the picture, I have noticed such -- such a huge change in you. I see strength, and you're brave, and you're resilient and -- you know, if you ever get stuck in a corner, you don't stay there. You crawl right away from that. You fight. You're fighting for yourself. You're fighting for the child. And you're doing it, because you want to give this child the best life possible. Are you kidding me? And I know that when this is all over and, you know, it's all done with, you're going to take that courage, and you're going to take that strength that's inside, and you're going to build a brand new life for yourself. And it's going to be a great life -- a great life. I don't have -- I don't have a single doubt in my mind.

Amanda: You really believe that?

Jake: I believe in you.

Angie: I'm sorry to hear about you and Kendall splitting up. Did you try marriage counseling?

Zach: It's done. It's, um -- it's hard. You know, I should have seen it a long time ago. I just didn't want to.

Angie: Because you love her.

Zach: How are those tests coming?

Angie: You know what? I know this is so none of my business, and half the time I feel like more of a counselor around here than a doctor, but I just hate to see anybody hurting. And I can see that you're in a lot of pain, Zach.

Zach: No, I'm not in pain at all. I'm fine. I'm good. Kendall has what she needs. I have what I need. I've got my boys and the casinos, and I just need to focus on my son, that's all.

Kendall: Well, he's my son, too. You bring Ian to the hospital, and you don't tell me? What the hell is wrong with you?

Amanda: Ok, um -- wow, I'm sorry. I'm sorry about --

Jake: No, don't you be sorry. I kissed you.

Amanda: I kissed you back and I -- I shouldn't have. I can't do that. It's not fair. You've already done so much for me, too much -- talking to Tad and getting him to let me live here, protecting me and this baby from David. I mean, you even offered to give up everything that you have and run off with us.

Jake: Well, I'm not doing anything that I don't want to do.

Amanda: You work your butt off day and night at the hospital. You come home to the pregnant drama queen. What kind of life is that?

Jake: Stop -- stop it. I -- I want to be here. I want to be hanging out with the pregnant chick. I like the "drama." And I like working out with you to the prenatal, you know, video fitness tape, although it should be a DVD. I don't understand that. And I like it when it's, you know, 4:00 in the morning because you have insomnia, and we're up all night watching stupid movies, bawling our eyes out. I like it.

Amanda: You really do need to get out more.

Jake: I like it when you get the cravings. I like it when you want cocoa-cheesy puffs and beef nib nibs, and -- I could go for a nib nib right now. That's how I'm thinking.

Amanda: Ooh, me too, but don't kill me. I ate the last can this morning.

Jake: You did not. You ate all the nib nibs? I'll get some nib nibs right now.

Amanda: No, you don't have to do that, Jake.

Jake: I don't mind doing it. I like it. I'm gonna -- I'm doing it because I want to do it. I'm doing it because I'm -- because I want to do it.

Amanda: Oh, um, Jake. Can you...

Jake: [Whispering] Bye.

Amanda: [Whispering] Thanks.

Jesse: So did you hear Dr. Hayward here threaten Mr. Chandler?

Gayle: I heard no threat and I never saw a needle. I was shocked when he hit Dr. Hayward for no reason.

David: Don't you see what's going on here? Hmm? This is yet another example of the Chandlers banding together to take me down. They played dirty to get my grandson. Now they're trying to put me behind bars.

Adam: With the rest of the animals.

Jesse: Well, if you want the man arrested, you're going to have to give proof that he attacked you.

Adam: This is an outrage.

David: I'll be back to check on you later.

Jesse: I am so sick and tired of having to deal with you. Stay the hell away from Adam.

David: Well, he didn't stay away from my wife, now, did he? He's the reason Krystal turned on me in court.

Jesse: It's over. Hayward, you lost. You lost because you are not fit to raise that little boy, you hear me? You -- to raise any child for that matter. Harass the Chandlers, you go to prison. That's a promise.

Zach: Ian is fine. The doctors checked him out, and they're just doing some tests to be sure.

Kendall: Well, I want to see him.

Angie: The doctor on call is just finishing up, and he'll come find you in a few minutes.

Kendall: Are you sure he's ok?

Angie: Yes, I am. I spoke to the doctor myself.

Kendall: Ok. I got home and there was no one there, and I knew right away it had to be Ian. So I drove like a maniac to get here and the whole time I'm thinking, did he stop breathing again? Does he need more surgery? Is -- is my son dying?

Zach: Calm down.

Kendall: No, no, don't touch me, and I will not calm down.

Angie: Listen.

Kendall: You rushed my baby over here without telling me?

Angie: You two have to take this somewhere else. Come on.

Kendall: You did this on purpose to punish me.

Zach: I would never use my son for that.

Kendall: I may not be your wife anymore, but I will always be Ian's mother. You can't shut me out of his life no matter how much you hate me.

Zach: I don't hate you. I don't feel anything for you. Nothing at all.

Opal: Hey.

Ryan: Hey.

Opal: Thought Emma might be looking for this. She left it when she came to play with Kathy.

Ryan: Yeah, that was -- that was really thoughtful of you to bring it over. Thank you very much.

Opal: Sure. Could I trouble you for a glass of water? I'm kind of parched.

Ryan: Yes, absolutely, come in.

Opal: Oh, thanks.

Ryan: Ok.

Opal: Sure is a lovely day out. The birds are chirping. The flowers are blooming. Looks like spring has sprung.

Ryan: Yes. Here you go.

Opal: Oh, thanks.

Ryan: Mm-hmm.

Opal: I heard you're, uh, running the show over at Cambias again. I didn't see that coming.

Ryan: Should never have given it up to begin with.

Opal: Yeah, well, working is good. Keeps you busy, gives you something else to think about. Your friends are good, too. Although Lord knows I know you've got no shortage of those, folks to lean on, like Kendall, for instance.

Ryan: So that's what you're really doing here.

Opal: Beg pardon?

Ryan: Did you get a message from the universe? Or was it Erica? You know, I wouldn't listen to her, so she sent you over here to tell me to back off Kendall --

Opal: Oh, no, now wait just a second.

Ryan: So that Zach and her can work things out?

Opal: No.

Ryan: How many -- how many times do I actually have to let things go in my life? I mean, if you think about it. Do you have any idea? Because I've kind of lost count already. Everybody that I love, right? Everybody that I love, I just walk away. Sometimes I just run away. Hell, I even pretend to be dead. And what do I have to show for it now, Opal? Nothing. But regrets. Nothing. Not again. I won't do it. Ok? I love Kendall. She loves me. There's no way that I'm letting that go.

Dr. Shephard: Ian's stable. His test results were perfect. He's resting comfortably.

Kendall: Oh, good, good. When can we take him home?

Dr. Shephard: Well, I'd like to keep him here overnight just to be on the safe side.

Kendall: Ok.

Zach: Ok.

Kendall: I don't think both of us should stay here. I don't think it would be good for Ian. Too much tension.

Zach: I agree. I stay, you go.

Kendall: No, I stay, you go.

Zach: Fine.

Scott: Look, last time I was in town, David pulled a lot of bad stuff, but the doctors I've been working with, they followed his career and over the past couple of years he's really helped people. He started free clinics. Saved tons of lives.

Adam: This is Hayward we're talking about?

Scott: Yeah, for a minute I assumed that he changed. J.R. did warn me.

Adam: J.R. didn't mention he'd seen you.

Scott: Probably because I said "hello" with my fist. I cracked him right in the face. Well, I wasn't too happy that he shut down my production company.

Adam: I, uh -- he did that without my permission, without my knowledge. I ordered him to reinstate the funds immediately.

Scott: Yeah, well, he didn't, but it's cool. I got a new project that I'm really psyched about. I tried to pitch it to J.R. He won't commit. That's why I came to see you.

Adam: Ah, somebody else who wants to kill me.

David: Hello, Amanda.

Amanda: Get out of here. I'm serious, David. You better leave now.

David: I assume you already heard the news about Little Adam?

Amanda: No.

David: J.R. was granted full custody of my grandson. Relax, you have nothing to worry about. Your child is going to have a wonderful life. With me.

Zach: What's the problem?

Francesca: Possible card counter. Won five figures in less than an hour. Still going strong.

Zach: I'll take care of him.

Francesca: Her.

Zach: How are you doing?

Liza: Very well. Yeah. Too well, apparently. They called in some big boss. So, what? Do I get a spanking?

Zach: I'm just here to deal.

Liza: Well, I'm going to have fun playing with you.

Opal: I don't need to look at the tarot to see that what you feel for Kendall is the real deal. She left her husband, so it must be real for her, too.

Ryan: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I jumped all over you.

Opal: Please. I'm the one who needs to apologize. Greenlee's gone. But you are still here, and you do deserve happiness. So if you find that with Kendall, who am I to judge? And my heart aches for Zach and the boys, but love is love.

[Phone ringing]

Ryan: Excuse me for a second. Hello.

Kendall: Ryan, when is this all going to end?

Ryan: What happened?

Kendall: I got home, and they were gone. Ian's fine. He -- he's fine. But I was scared out of my mind. And then Zach -- Zach was so cold and -- why am I dumping all of this on you? I'm sorry I called. I'm sorry.

Ryan: Where are you?

Kendall: I'm at the hospital. I'm going to stay the night here with Ian. It's just a precaution. I'll call you in the morning.

Ryan: Oh -- ok. Hang on. Hang on for a second.

Kendall: No, no, no, no, Ryan. I have to go. I love you.

Jesse: Hey, baby.

Angie: Hey, baby. What are you doing home?

Jesse: I'm taking a mental health day.

Angie: That can only mean one thing -- David.

Jesse: Yeah. He was at the hospital. He tried to poison Adam Chandler.

Angie: What?

Jesse: Allegedly. No proof.

Angie: So that's why David was at the hospital.

Jesse: Mm-hmm. That's why I was pulled away from doing real police work, to deal with those idiots. I could have strangled both of them on the spot. That's why I need to take a time-out.

Angie: Hmm. Hey, got yourself a present?

Jesse: Yeah, it's a webcam program, so we can see our boy when we're talking to him in Iraq. How cool is this? Randi has one, too.

Angie: Oh, wow. It's fantastic.

Jesse: Yeah, I know.

Angie: I love you.

Jesse: Yeah. How much are you going to love me if I can't get this thing up and running? I thought I was stressed out before. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to know if my UDP protocol is enabled? Unbelievable. Baby, what are you doing? I need those instructions.

Angie: You got work to do.

[Jesse and Angie laugh]

Jesse: Oh, no, you didn't. Get over here.

Adam: I've told you about Stuart's son, Scott.

Krystal: Ask him to leave. Now.

Scott: Will you be ok?

Adam: I think I have what it takes to keep Krystal in line. Yeah. I heard your testimony over Colby's cell phone. Brilliant. I understand they dragged Hayward out of the courtroom kicking and screaming.

Krystal: I did what I had to do. You won and I lost everything.

Adam: Apparently, there's something more important to you than either your husband or your grandson.

Krystal: Shut up. We had a deal. I gave you Little A. And you keep your mouth shut. Don't you breathe another word about that to me or anybody else ever again.

Adam: Oh. Yeah, I know you can keep your word. But this --

Krystal: I am warning you. You know, you are a piece of work. I wish that attack that you had on the stand was real. I wish you were --

Adam: Dead. Dead. Yeah. If I were dead, your secret would be dead with me. But don't hold your breath. Krystal.

[Adam hands Krystal a piece of paper with an address on it: 16 Montana Drive, Devon, PA]

Amanda: You can't. You signed papers saying that you would not pursue custody of this baby.

David: Do you honestly believe that there's any amount of paper that would keep me from my own flesh and blood?

Amanda: It's a legal document. I'll bring it to court.

David: Ok. And then what, hmm? Bribe a judge? Hire a big-time attorney? Get over yourself, sweetheart. You're no Chandler. You have no power. No money. And what is your case exactly? A single, unemployed bimbo crashing on Tad's couch would make a better parent than a rich, prominent doctor? You're wasting your breath.

Amanda: There are other people that will help me fight you.

David: All right. Yeah? Like who? The Martins? Ooh, I'm trembling. I took Joe's job, remember? Tad's wife. And Jake, well, not much there worth taking, really. Getting your child would be a walk in the park.

Tad: I wouldn't count on that. As long as Amanda is living under my roof, my family will do whatever it takes to protect her from you.

David: That's what we call an empty threat, folks.

Jake: This ain't empty.

Tad: Karma's a real bitch, isn't it, Dave? Last time a gun was involved, you were pointing it at me at your place, remember?

David: Yeah. Why were you there again? Oh, that's right. You found out I was sleeping with your wife.

Tad: Even so, you didn't have the guts to pull the trigger.

Jake: Well, I do.

Amanda: Just go.

David: Relax, sweetheart. Calamity Jake here couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Jake: That's where you're dead wrong, Dave. I've worked in a lot of scary places. And I always carry a gun. And I've used it on more than one occasion to defend myself, my camp, my colleagues. And this is my camp. And I will defend it and this house and everybody in it.

Tad: And he won't be alone.

David: So, you two bozos, Opal, and Petey? Is that it? Wow, I should be running for the hills.

Jake: And about Amanda's baby, she will decide its future. Because, unlike you, she will make the right choice, and not about herself, but about the child. Because she wants a great life for the little boy or the little girl or whatever it is, because again, unlike you, she has a heart and a conscience. And she knows what unconditional love is, Dave. I really think you should leave.

David: Keep taking those prenatal vitamins. Something tells me you're going to need your strength.

[Door closing]

Jesse: Wow. It's been a while since we made good use of this couch. Huh?

[Angie giggles]

Angie: Well, it's been a while since we've been alone.

Jesse: Yeah. It is kind of quiet around here. Kind of miss the sound of little feet running around, though.

Angie: Thank God little Adam didn't end up with David.

Jesse: Yeah. And junior's doing ok. He quit drinking again, and so far stayed on the right side of the law. So it looks like his son Junior Jr. is going to be fine, huh?

Angie: What about ours? Oh, God, Jesse, I hope that Frankie never lets his guard down over there.

Jesse: He's going to be fine. He knows what he's doing. He'll stay safe. That's why I'm hooking that thing up for you. Soon as I can get somebody to translate those instructions into English.

Angie: Well, you know what? Maybe I'll ask Randi how it works. I really want to give her a call anyway, and see how she's doing without her new husband.

Jesse: We should invite her to dinner. Call Natalia, too. Give her a little break from the academy.

Angie: Mm-hmm.

Jesse: Guess who else is in town?

Angie: Who?

Jesse: Scott Chandler.

Angie: Oh.

Jesse: Should we invite him to dinner, too?

Angie: Uh, yeah, mm-hmm. It will be a packed house again before we know it.

Jesse: That's all right.

Angie: Now, you've got more work to do.

Jesse: Back to work. Come on, baby.

[After a weeping Kendall lies down on a cot next to Ian's crib, Ryan appears by her side to comfort her]

Zach: So what brings you to the casino?

Liza: I like the fresh air.

Zach: And you like my money. You're good. Very good.

Liza: I'm good at a lot of things.

Zach: So you're not cheating?

Liza: Are you?

Zach: No, it's not my style.

Liza: But there is a first time for everything.

Zach: You win fair and square and walk away satisfied.

Liza: Yeah. But what happens when you lose? You know you'd be frustrated.

Zach: Wouldn't know about that.

Liza: Like I said, there's a first time for everything.

Zach: Why are you here? Business or pleasure?

Liza: Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much?

Zach: I think you're the first.

Liza: Shut up and deal.

Zach: You're showing 13.

Liza: Hit me. Again.

Zach: That's dangerous.

Liza: Maybe for you.

Zach: 20.

Liza: So do you think you can beat my 20?

[Zach draws an 18]

Liza: Game over. Better luck next time.

Zach: Hang on a second. I think I'm going to hit.

Liza: You can't hit. The house sticks on 17 and above.

Zach: It's my house. I can do whatever I want.

[Zach and Liza kiss over the blackjack table]

Scott: I was telling you about an investment opportunity.

Adam: Of course. Go on, go on. Tell me.

Scott: A couple of years ago I worked with a doctor who is developing a new kind of heart valve. Now this thing will change the face of cardiology. But we need funding fast. Turns out, somebody else is working on one, too. This guy has already tried to steal my friend's design.

Adam: Who is your competition?

Scott: David Hayward.

Adam: Oh. How much do you need?

Amanda: Thank you.

Jake: Well, I meant every word. Every word.

Amanda: I know.

Tad: I locked the gun back in the shed.

Jake: Thank you.

Amanda: What you guys did for me and what you said to David, I am so grateful. Thank you so much. Him showing up here really freaked me out. I don't want the baby to get freaked out, so I think I should lay down.

Jake: Ok.

Amanda: Thank you.

Tad: Mm-hmm. Ok. No more games, no more ducking the question. You're in love with Amanda. Her and that baby.

[While drinking alone at Wildwind, David looks at his secret stash of drugs in his liquor cabinet]

[The address that Adam gave Krystal belongs to a cemetery]

Krystal: Oh, my God, no. No.

Jesse: What's on your mind, pretty lady?

Angie: David and Krystal.

Jesse: Ugh. Yeah, you keep thinking about them, you're going to have to take a mental health day, too.

Angie: Zach and Kendall Slater. You know they're getting divorced.

Jesse: Yeah. Well, this is Pine Valley. Don't nobody stay married in this town. Except black folk. We got it going on

Angie: You're so stupid.

Kendall: Hey.

Ryan: How's Ian?

Kendall: He's better. He's great.

Ryan: You, I'm not so sure about.

Kendall: I'm fine. I am. I'm good, now that you're here. How long can you stay?

Ryan: Opal's watching the kids. I can stay here as long as you need me.

Zach: No names, no strings.

Liza: Just sex. Yes, and for God's sake, stop talking.
